Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club Cowboys This is Cowboys
storyline presented by Gillette, the official shave of the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Here's Nick Eatman, What is up? Welcome to Cowboys storyline
presented by Gellette. Wednesday, December thirty first, And this is it.
This is the last one, last one of the week
before the game. This is the last one of the year.
It's the last one of the regular season. This is it.
(00:42):
Now we will do weekly shows again, and we're trying
to figure out we may do two shows at least
for a couple of weeks as we try to tape
our TV shows as well. So next week's next week.
That's all. That's another that's twenty twenty six. That's a
whole other calendar year. This one. Let's wrap this up,
do it the right way. Eight A eight eight five
(01:03):
five two two nine seven. I'm sure there'll be some
some Trayvon Diggs talk today. Trayvon Diggs was surprisingly released
on Tuesday. I say surprisingly, I think the timing of
it that when they parted ways was was the surprise,
the fact that he's, you know, no longer a part
of the team that that we could see that one coming,
(01:25):
but you know, when they did it, why they did it,
all that kind of stuff be interesting to kind of
see what some of these uh would would Schottenheimer has
to say when next time Jerry talks about it, Stephen,
I'm sure they'll, you know, at some point we'll get
all of the details. But from kind of what we know, uh,
(01:46):
it seemed like the road trip and the flight back
and then you know from Washington was kind of the
final straw. And uh but with anything, with any breakup,
there's never one thing, it's always just the final thing.
All right, Let's go to the phone lines, Danny and Henderson, Nevada. Good,
(02:06):
How are you doing great.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
I just have a couple questions real quick. I just
want your thoughts maybe on what you think of back
playing this week. I personally am a little worried about
him getting hurt.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
He's been hit a lot.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Three of the last four weeks. I'd like to see
Milton also on Diggs. I know, I think we're saving
about twelve and a half million on the cap next year,
and six million is still dead money, and I just
wanted to know I'm not sure if at six million
stays no matter what, or if he gets claimed or
(02:41):
signs as a free agent, does that money go with him.
And then lastly, I just want to thank you for
a great year, Nick, and also to Chris in the back.
You let out all us Cowboy fans bring our love
to the Cowboys to the next level by talking to
you and to one another on the platform. So I
also want to say there's a lot of people out
there that listen to this, but they can't call in
(03:04):
because they work. And that was me until I retired
this year. So thanks for everything you do for us.
We really appreciate it and I look forward to calling
me back in twenty six.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
All right, Dan, thank you so much. Appreciate that really
really nice words. Dak you know selfishly if I'm there
and we're watching the game, and yeah, you know, I
want to see Dak play selfishly, and I think everybody
(03:35):
kind of does too. You know, you'd rather see you know,
and that's if you want them to win, and you know,
and but there's there's teams out there that don't really
want them to win, that would like the Giants to
not only win and drop down in the in the
draft order and the Cowboys stay where they are and
all those those good things. I don't know why meet
(03:56):
me personally from whether it be stats or or or what.
I just I would rather see Dak out there for
for a little bit. I think he'll start. I don't
know if he'll play all of it. We'll see how
much if if If Will Greer is elevated maybe from
the practice squad, then then I think we'll know what
(04:17):
the plans are with him. I get the injury part
of it, but I don't know. I mean, again, it's selfish.
I guess I'd rather just Dic play some. As for
the digs in his money, so you the it doesn't
matter about the claim and all that that kind of stuff.
(04:37):
That's just the base salaries that they're that they're claiming
if they pick, if they pick that up, just whatever
his base salary is for the rest of this year,
which was guaranteed, so the Cowboys are paying that anyways.
It's not like they're not having to pay this final
week of the season. It was already guaranteed because he's
a vested veteran and he's on the roster in Week one,
so that's not that's not part of the thing and
(05:00):
why they're saving anything. They were going they had two
options really when you cut them, you you you can
make post June one cut where you cut them in
March or whenever that is. They have to do that
in March, but you do the post June one and
then you save you know, they would save I think
twelve million this year, but then they'd be on the
hook for some next year. They're just taking all of
(05:24):
it now, you know, they're not they're not splitting it
up into this year next year. They're just gonna take it.
I think the savings by doing it, they'll save about
six millions here, so this year. That's that's you know,
pretty much that that's pretty much how how those things work. Yeah,
you can get more more money right now. But but
(05:45):
then again, the Cowboys aren't just managing twenty twenty six,
you know, cap they're managing twenty seven as well, and
that one seems to be a little bit more problematic
than next year. So that that's I think that the
reason why they decided to do They were gonna do
it anyways, and they say we're gonna let's go in Illinois.
Speaker 5 (06:04):
What's going on what to do, what to do?
Speaker 3 (06:05):
My boy?
Speaker 2 (06:07):
How you doing right?
Speaker 5 (06:09):
Doing great? It was all good just a week ago,
said by the great poor Jay z uh Tray Diggs
out it was a good run. But uh, we'll see
you on the other side. I guess at the end
of the day. Uh, he was Uh, he was a
good player for us, and I enjoyed him and I
got a jersey. But actually I just I'm glad. I'm
(06:33):
glad they went on to deal what they needed to do.
Speaker 6 (06:35):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
When he lost his besty back into August, it was
pretty much down here from there. Uh. As far as
the game, I know you're talking about Dad playing, I'm
all about Dak planning. I want him to go because
he said, you want to go if if you want
to compete every day, and that's what you want to do.
Let the boys compete. Finish the year strong, get eight
and eight because they really ain't gonna the draft position
(06:57):
really gonna be a big deal because we're gonna mean
the team anyway. Yeah, so don get you go get
your wi Uh. From my New Year's resolution this year,
well this year going forward, I will not really get
into it with people that do not like Dak anymore.
I am just going to laugh in your face if
(07:18):
you have a problem with Dak. Now, it's just it's
just crossed over football lines. It's strictly personal now because
the guy did all they could do to help us
out this year and he did not get any help
from his defense. So that's my new year's resolution going forward.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
But are you saying, I mean, do you even hang
out with people that aren't cowboy fans? I mean, are
these cowboy fans that that that that feel that way
about Dak?
Speaker 5 (07:47):
Oh yeah, oh yeah they say they are yo. Yeah,
it's funny. Yeah, I just I just it's just, uh,
it's I mean, for some reason, I just don't think why.
I don't get why Peop but don't like him as
a as a player. I get you know that he's
felled and failed a couple of times when we really
needed to come through. But for this year, if you're
(08:08):
still mad about his contract and all that, yeah, hey man,
just you know whatever, dog it is what it is.
I'm just gonna just laugh your face. He's not going nowhere.
Jared's gonna be the general general manager until whenever. So
them two things are staple. So yeah, here is what
it is. But uh, I think we're gonna win. Probably,
I say, if Dax slaying at least thirty twenty somewhere
(08:31):
around now, you know, our defense aint nothing. It's all good.
All Happy New Years, to be safe you next year.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Appreciate that. Yeah, they did not face Jackson Dart the
first time around, and Russell Wilson had the best, one
of the best days of his career. So you know,
let's see what the weather looks like too. You know,
it's supposed to be pretty cold. It could be cold
and rainy. That might be one of your decisions too
(09:02):
with with Dak if you're you know, and it's not
the best turf in the world either. So we'll we'll see,
we'll see how long, you know, if Dak does play,
how long he's in there, because the narrative of everything
with Washington was he's playing, they're playing Christmas Day, He's
(09:22):
out there. Even Dak and Shoddy after the game work
was kind of like, well, yeah, well we'll see, we'll
see what what you know, I want to play, but
we'll see what happens. And so, you know, he he
is expected to start the game, but I'll be surprised
if he's in it for a long time. All right,
let's go to Skyler. He's in Washington, Skyler, what's up.
(09:45):
Good morning.
Speaker 6 (09:49):
I just it's gonna be hard watching Dak start. Honestly,
every I'm gonna be wincing every time he takes the hit,
especially with the you know, the disshovel offensive line we
play we've been having for the past all year. Yeah,
it took how many hits in the last game thirty?
Uh ten, thirteen? Yeah, it's in general, and like what
(10:12):
five sacks. I just don't do the risk, Okay.
Speaker 5 (10:17):
I mean maybe he.
Speaker 7 (10:18):
Wants that title really bad.
Speaker 6 (10:20):
For the passing yeards, I guess I don't know.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Yeah, I mean that that that could that could be
part of it. I mean what he's he's leading the NFL.
I believe in passing yards and uh no cowboy quarterback
has ever done that for the rest of the season.
But you know, I think there I think there's probably
more factors than than that. But it's kind of what
Davion has just said. It's just it's a you know,
(10:46):
this is this is a shoddy thing. You know, you
want to compete. You want to compete every day. You
want to go out there and you want you want
to play, want to win. They want to win. They
want to win this game. They do not want to
finish with a losing record. They want to win. They
want to go eight eight and one. I mean, what's
I mean, That's fine, that's what they want. Doesn't matter
what y'all want, what what what I want? What we want,
It doesn't really matter. It's it's kind of what they want.
(11:09):
They want to go out there and finish this thing strong.
They you know, they've been they've been taking it all
year long, and and they want to go out and
finish strong. But I mean we would kill them if
they didn't, you know. I mean, and if they didn't
go and do that, people would complain about that.
Speaker 6 (11:25):
So oh, I mean everybody's going to play at all time, right,
everybody happy, that's for sure. So I mean I get it.
I'm guess you know, as competitor too, I would always
want to compete.
Speaker 5 (11:38):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 6 (11:44):
I would just beating the giants in general will make
me happy too, Yeah, just anything East Coast rivals would
let to watch them go down no matter what.
Speaker 5 (11:52):
So yeah, I guess they get.
Speaker 6 (11:54):
It, but it will be hard to watch regardless.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Yeah, well I think that's that's going to be the
case regardless. You know what I mean that it's hard.
It's hard to watch football games that don't matter, you know,
like in the on the big scale of things. And
so yeah, that that's always going to be the case.
Thanks for the colls kyl. You know that that's always
the issue, you know, is just that you're out of
the playoffs. There's nothing to really fight for as far
(12:20):
as the rest of the season. But you know, it's
just it's so tough to tell, like like we can
say all that stuff, but like they're out there right now,
they're they're they're getting ready for practice, they're you know,
they they've been in meetings. They they're going through the
process and and have they mentally checked out. I don't
know what I mean, We'll see. I mean they they
(12:42):
did a nice job in Washington on a short week
going up there, and and you know they they were
they were playing. They're ready to go. Now now they're
off installed some in the second half. But you know,
this is this is really big when when you're talking
about trying to change the culture. To me, these are
the games teams right here that that really affect that
(13:03):
it's easy to go play when it's all on the
line and all that, and everyone knows what's at stake.
And the forty nine ers are taking on the Seahawks
thirteen and three versus twelve and four. I mean, I
bet you, I bet you. The head coaches have their
players attention. I mean, I would think, now, if you
really want to be a great coach and build a culture,
see if you can get their attention for this game.
(13:24):
See if you can get them locked in, locked and loaded,
ready to play this game. This is going to be
a little bit tougher to do that, all right, I'm
just going to transition to something here. Yeah, we got
a lot of Cowboy fans that are like, I'm sure
they have a lot of memorabilia and all that kind
of stuff. If you I have this, it's been sitting
in my car. I don't need it, have nothing for it.
(13:45):
Kevin Williams, Kita got this. Somebody handed me this once
at a card show. Is oh cowboy fan, you want this?
It was an autograph of Kevin Williams. There's people that
probably have all kinds of crazy stuff like that. You
know what, where's the text the text line eight one
seven two nine zero three two nine eight. Send a
text there to Chris Beam say hey, I want this,
(14:07):
I need it. I want it. You send it. You
want it, send me your address, We'll send it to you.
I mean, I've just been sitting in my car whatever.
But I bet you there's people out there that have
all kinds of autograph photos of a lot of great players.
And he's he was good. He was a really good player,
really good return man. Uh for the Cowboys. All right,
(14:28):
I think we the lines are open. We'll take up.
Let's take a break here on Cowboys storyline. We'll be

the phone lines. Josh in Chicago is next. Josh, what's
up hey?
Speaker 12 (16:45):
Happy New Year's Eve?
Speaker 13 (16:47):
You.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
How are you doing? Man? Thank you?
Speaker 12 (16:49):
Yeah, not bad at all. So I'll let h I'll
know whoever text and first get by Kevin Williams autograph.
That's pretty cool, but you said Tex, So I'm not
going to try to beg for it now.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
Well Chris, what?
Speaker 14 (17:00):
Well?
Speaker 2 (17:00):
We ah we have something? Do we have some? He said?
Josh from Chicago might want it.
Speaker 12 (17:05):
I mean it's a pretty cool piece, I bet. But
I'll be truthful with you. I was born in ninety
I remember the Triple. It's way more than I remember
Kevin Williams. Yeah, but you know I know who he is.
I know he had some Super Bowl wins and I
know he was valuable.
Speaker 5 (17:18):
Assets to the teams.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Well, I'm sure someone's probably already jumped in there. I
don't know, we'll see so.
Speaker 15 (17:26):
On the Giants game.
Speaker 12 (17:27):
I know we were talking about whether some of the
starters should play or not. And I think you're right
with the culture that Dak is trying to set with Schottenheimer, right, like,
that's your leader, your team, and he's trying to set that.
I also think that guys like Javonte and Dak, who
missed a lot of time in their careers already, they
want that seventeen games starting season. They don't want to
lose out on that because I mean, for Javonte, it's
(17:47):
a contract thing, but I also think it's a pride
thing for.
Speaker 7 (17:49):
Both of them.
Speaker 12 (17:50):
The way they play. They want to show, hey, I
was durable, I made it through this season. Yeah, so
I think that's a big deal. But personally, after like halftime,
before up, I want to.
Speaker 5 (17:59):
Pull the starters.
Speaker 12 (18:00):
I want to see some of the younger guys play.
I want to see Nate Thomas getting there more than
I want to see uh Smith over at left tackle. Personally,
I think Bebe's struggled because Smith isn't next to him,
and I think I want to see somebody like Nate
Thomas in there. I want to see like a lot
of the young linebackers play. Obviously we'll get the young
cornerbacks playing. You know, shout out to Treyvon Diggs. He
(18:20):
had some good seasons here. I'll miss him to some degree,
but I mean the drama is too much and for
the play. You know, if he's still being an all pro,
then you can put up with some of the headache.
But when you're not playing at that level anymore and
you're trying to send a new culture, it's time.
Speaker 5 (18:33):
To move on.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
Yeah, that's that's the way it is. Thanks, thanks, Josh.
I mean, that is that is the truth. I mean,
for anybody that says, hey, we treat everybody the same,
that's just not That's just not reality. And and and
they they don't deserve that. Not everybody deserves to be
treated the same. You you have to handle different people different,
you know, differently than that, and uh, you know what
(18:57):
it came down to. But it also came down to to,
you know, rules and you fly back, you fly back
with a team. I mean, like you know, he kind
of he threw that out there pretty late in the game.
It sounded like Trayvon His request was was like after
the game and just kind of saying, hey, I'm not
I'm not coming back. I mean, this isn't This isn't
(19:18):
high school where you leave with your parents, you know. No, No,
you fly back with the rest and as inconvenient as
it might be to fly there and maybe fly back
to Washington. I mean, you know, Christmas doesn't sneak up
on anyone. It really doesn't. It's kind of on the
twenty fifth, I think, every every year. And so that's
just the way this is. And hey, I loved watching
(19:40):
Trayvon Diggs. He was one of my favorite players to cover.
I got a chance to meet his family. We did
a documentary on him. It was a lot of fun
to do that. I feel like I have a better
relationship with him than than maybe other people do. But
but at the end of the day, this whole thing
was it was just a mess. And and you know,
after he signed, you know the cowboys are they've already
(20:01):
kind of had to rethink certain things when when you're
when it comes to paying these guys a lot of money,
and they're gonna look at different examples and Trayvon's going
to be one of them of guys, what happens after
he gets this big, big contract? And don't think the
Cowboys aren't already thinking that way, worried about that when
it comes to George Pickens and any other guys that
you re sign. Is if this is the behavior now
(20:24):
as you're trying to get a contract, because that's the
biggest thing these players have, other than maybe winning a
Super Bowl. But some could argue that this is the
biggest thing, is that second contract which will set them
up forever. Then you know, if this is the behavior now,
what's it going to be like after you get your money?
That was the big concern with Micah and so you know,
(20:46):
again they don't have that problem now, But but it
was a problem with with Diggs. He wasn't the same player.
He wasn't the same you know, professional on the field
off the field. When he got hurt, he didn't rehabit
the way the Cowboys wanted them to. So a lot
of changes there. Uh, And I'm sure it's affecting how
the Cowboys move forward with really kind of digging deep,
(21:09):
if you will, on these players and going what what
what happens after they get their money? All right, Lester,
and Minnesota has been holding Lester. What's up?
Speaker 7 (21:18):
Good morning, Nick morning. First, first of all, I want
to say thank you for you and Chris and all
of the people that are are responsible for this storyline.
And then I want to say I really really, really
really really really love the community that you guys have
committed that that that we are able to call in
(21:41):
and voice high opinions. So I just want to say
thank you to you and all of the people that
are involved in that situation. In this situation here, you're
welcome New Years to everybody. And I do have one
little gripe, so to speak. I just don't understand when
anyone talks about anybody's salary on any level. I mean,
(22:06):
you could work at the grocery store, or you are
athlete or whatever. I mean, this is America. You are
You get what people are willing to pay you. So
that's all I have. Go cowboys and happy New Year everyone, all.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Right, thank you so much. All Right, we do have
a winner for the for the Kevin Williams signed autograph.
It was a cowboy Nico in Colorada Springs got in
there quick with the text so great that worked out.
That worked out. Great. It's good to hear from him.
I think yesterday he called in, so it hadn't heard
(22:42):
from him in a while, so it's cool. Hopefully he's
got a nice collection of things. And if you are,
and if you do collect you know, any any player
and all players, then yeah, an autograph Kevin Williams picture.
It has been seriously in my car for almost a
year maybe more, and I was like, yeah, I'm gonna
throw this away. Nobody wants this. Then then I kind
of realized I do a show every day with die
(23:06):
hard fans that probably really would want that. So I
was like, cool, all right, Skyler Washington again, forget something?
What's up?
Speaker 7 (23:16):
Man back again? Yeah. I was just curious, how do
you how do you fan.
Speaker 6 (23:21):
The rest of the football season with the Cowboys being out?
And you know, do you the support a team, friends team,
a player, or just want to watch some good football.
It's kind of just I was curious how most fans
go when it teams out?
Speaker 2 (23:36):
Okay, all right, thanks, you know, I I really I
really don't. I mean, it doesn't it doesn't really matter.
I mean, like if it you know, it doesn't affect
the Cowboys. So there is one team out there that
that that definitely does affect the Cowboys, and that's the Packers,
So I wouldn't mind seeing them lose. But you know
(23:59):
that after that, it doesn't you know, I really don't.
I'll figure out, you know, like I'll probably pull against,
you know, root against the Eagles. I mean just kind
of human nature is what it is there, but it
doesn't really matter, you know, like whenever the Super Bowl hits,
I mean, I'm definitely gonna watch it, and I'll have
(24:20):
a you know, a rooting interest for something. It just
depends on what it is. But now there's no fantasy
football anymore, any of that stuff. I just kind of
I'll just kind of watch it to watch it and
to see what's up. And we'll do these shows and
I'm sure things will, you know, we'll talk about that.
But you know, I'm not gonna root for Seattle because
the Marcus Lawrence is up there or somebody like that.
(24:41):
I don't really go that way. I mean, I found
myself always rooting for the Chiefs seemed like when they
were there, you know, when they were in it. I
have no issues with Patrick Mahomes. I think he's fun
player to watch. You know I've caught a pass from him,
so I feel like we have a connection, you know
what I mean? Yeah, all right, cowboy Nico, he called
(25:03):
in what's up in?
Speaker 16 (25:05):
I was just telling Chris two days in a row.
That's crazy. I couldn't get on for like a month.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
Let's go. And you got the text in there too.
Speaker 16 (25:13):
I did, Thank you, guys, and Chris. I will send
that text out to you guys. So check this out, Nake,
ironic funny. What did I say yesterday?
Speaker 7 (25:21):
Digs?
Speaker 16 (25:21):
It's time to go take that star off? But it's
not like I was breaking news. But maybe I was
breaking new.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
Yeah, I like it.
Speaker 16 (25:29):
I have no clue. I have no clue, but I
didn't know this. It's funny that you mentioned watching the
super Bowl, and I've told you this before. You may
not remember, or some people.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Made somebody got a wrestled, right, somebody got a wrestled right.
Speaker 16 (25:44):
Yes, Yes, that was my that was my mom and
my ownder got into a massive fists by on Super
Bowl thirty Pittsburgh fans cowboy fans, and it was bad.
But honestly, I have not and I have mentioned this,
and I will say it again. I have not watched
the Super Bowl. Refuse to watch the Super Bowl or
even playoffs. When the Cowboys are out, I don't watch
(26:05):
any other teams. That being said, my current wife, I
say current, Please God, let her be the last life
I have.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
Yeah, how about just wife? How about wife?
Speaker 6 (26:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (26:19):
About that?
Speaker 2 (26:20):
In my head, I don't ever want to say that. Yeah,
just say what my fault?
Speaker 13 (26:24):
My fault.
Speaker 16 (26:25):
My wife is a Broncos fan, so I've had to
endure when they went. I went downstairs and watched our
super bowls because it makes me feel like a champion
of thirty years later. But that being said, if the
Broncos get in, I'm going to need a lot of
help from Cowboy Nation because she's already rubbed it in
(26:48):
thirty years of us not winning, and then they go
to the super Bowl. If they go to the super Bowl,
it's just going to be bad. So I'm going to
ask all our Cowboys fans so please pray for me,
and hopefully the Bronco dealt it. In that being said,
I forgot something yesterday and Sargeant sue, You're right, my bad.
If I leave phone calls, I will say this and
(27:09):
I'm leading it right now here. It is always ask
for help. Sergeant Sue for President, let's get rowdy, you guys,
have a great day. Happy New Year, all.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
Right, Sergeant Sue for President, love it? Why not? I
could win some arm wrestling contests. I'm sure he could
definitely can win those. All right, Keith and Fern Dino
beats Florida.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
Good morning, Nick, How are you good?
Speaker 2 (27:40):
How do you say that? Fernandina Fernandina beach?
Speaker 4 (27:43):
Okay, thank you.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
Sounds awesome.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
It's a wonderful place to live.
Speaker 7 (27:49):
Nick.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
I've got two hopes and things that I would like
for twenty twenty six for my Dallas Cowboys, bring it.
The first thing I would like would be a drama
free not.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Not happening here, not happening here. See that star up
there somewhere over here that that means drama.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
Right, Yeah, you're probably right, but maybe maybe they can
do number two. Right, we've got these two drafts.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
Well, they did that, all of their defense did that,
all we did that.
Speaker 4 (28:20):
Indeed, my hope is that with number the number two
would be the two draft picks. We've got two first
round draft picks. My hope is that we don't choose
anybody that's hurt I understand the Cowboys have been doing
this for years. I've literally been following this team since
the late seventies, and and this is kind of what
we do. Second round, third round, whatever we go for
(28:43):
hurt people, and and more times than not it hasn't
worked out. I would love to see them, you know,
stick with those two first round picks. We need two
defensive starters for sure. Hopefully we get a couple more
in the in free agency or whatever, and then yeah,
that's that's kind of my hope for for twenty twenty six,
(29:03):
and maybe a winning season that'd be nice.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
All right, Well, hey, you're not asking for much there,
You're you know, I mean, it's not like you're asking
for for the moon. I know, thanks for the call, Keith.
I'm I'm with you on that. I mean, you know,
Samon Revel could turn out to be a really good player.
He really might. But and and with a third round,
(29:29):
you know, and and that's that's not too bad of
a of a of a move there to to get
a guy like that. We'll see how if he can
turn the corner this year. And you know, I'm glad
that he got in when he did. But as far
as is a little bit higher first round picks. Now,
I'm I'm I'm with you on on on taking guys
(29:49):
that are are ready to come in here and play.
You're you're this is the window that that you're at.
You want, you know, you're trying to win now, So
I'm I'm not trade and you know, I really I
don't think I would trade those first round picks to
get back into the second and third and all that
kind of stuff. I might move back a few spots
(30:10):
if you're sitting at fifteen and you want to go
to eighteen nineteen something like that, because you feel like
you've got a lot of players that you still on
the board that you really like, and you can pick
up a third just for that. I'm okay with that.
Remember they did that with Tyler Geydon a few years ago.
They liked where they were, I believe it twenty four,
and they went to twenty eight. They still got guiding
(30:31):
and then bbe with that third round pick. I would
be okay with that. But these fiftieer options are valuable,
and so that come with the first round. I would
take both of them. And you need first round players,
you know, I mean, think about your second and third
rounds and it's hit and miss. First round for the
most part, has been pretty good. For the most part,
(30:55):
has been pretty good. Bozzie Smith was the exception. We'll
see if Tyler Guidon is the exception. They don't think,
you know, they don't think it is. They they think
he's a really good player. He's gotta you know, he's
got to figure out some things as far as just
just just being more comfortable with his position, being more confident.
I think that will cut down a lot of the penalties.
(31:16):
I think talent wise, you know, he can be a
good player. He's just he's just got to kind of
get that confidence there. All right, let's go to Jr.
And Avondale Arizona.
Speaker 14 (31:28):
And Nick How you doing good?
Speaker 2 (31:29):
How are you doing?
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Man?
Speaker 14 (31:31):
Getting ready for the new year? Happy New Year to
you and your family. They don't forget to tell you.
Me and on Diggs, I knew Diggs had to go,
but I hated to see it. Is Micah and then
Diggs as far as favorite defensive players, went with me.
So they're both gone now. But I'm not gonna worry
about it. Then I don't have a team anymore, So
(31:52):
we'll just move forward. I just have to stop buying
jerseys of these favorite players because gets full of people
that don't three Mica jerseys and they have to move
down to the closet with Tony and Witt and Barber
and all the other guys I used to a lot of. Anyway,
back to Diggs, I just it was sad to see
(32:14):
how that whole thing went down, but I said it's
over and it's done. More about I always complained about
the defense. I was reading just on the website yesterday.
I was kind of flabbergasted the word I don't use
much for this that reading about how they just kind
of forgot to put Logan Wilson in the game, and
(32:35):
is it Dave Bolganzhi is the linebacker's coach, and how
they just blamed him, and that they said they just
got confused, and how do you get confused? And how
the defensive set and certain players on the field but
they're not out there. I understand. It kind of counts
(32:55):
me a lot about the whole season just confused and
being where they're supposed to be and receivers running wide open.
It kind of just sums it all up. And then
Schattenheimers commented on it, and he said, yeah, we screwed
that up, and that's on the coaches and we'll have
to take that as a staff. It's happened before, it'll
happen again. It's not what I wanted to hear, but
(33:20):
you forgot to put a guy in the game. But anyway,
that's all I got, man. I just wanted to call
and say I tried to get that Kevin Williams picture
to go with my Kevin Williams find hat. Oh but anyway,
I do have a Kevin winniam find hat. But that's
a whole nother story. Anyway, he please be safe. All
the storyliners and I've enjoyed being part of the community
(33:41):
this year. I look forward to next year.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Thanks for Nick, Thanks Sar. Appreciate that. I'll say this
as I track these calls and to see, you know,
who's called the most and all that, and and I
don't think I've ever seen anybody take a joke from
having zero calls in the middle of October to probably
(34:07):
being in the top ten in calls by by the
end of the year, as Jr.
Speaker 8 (34:13):
Did.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
And it helped with a streak I believe maybe fourteen
in a row fourteen calls in a row, so you
you definitely pull vaulted yourself up in there and into
the all storyline team, which we'll announce I don't know,
maybe February or so late January. We'll we'll we'll figure
that out. We'll get I think we'll go back to
(34:34):
T shirts only Gillette. Let's see if we can get
Gillette to cut a deal on that one. All right,
let's go sergeants Sue for president, Sergeant Sue, what's up? Man?
Speaker 15 (34:45):
And eat everybody?
Speaker 9 (34:46):
How you doing it?
Speaker 2 (34:47):
I'm good you, I'm all right, man.
Speaker 15 (34:49):
I don't I don't hegos hilarious.
Speaker 17 (34:51):
Bro.
Speaker 15 (34:51):
I don't want to be president. I'm still trying to
figure out how to be a dad, so I don't
know if I could be the country's dad.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
Me too, me too, and I've got four me too.
Speaker 15 (35:01):
Hey, But to me, that just means you're a great
one man. You haven't arrived, you're still learning, you're STI adjusting.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
I appreciate that, hey, sergeant before whatever you're about to say,
and we'll comment on that, but I'll just cut you
off for a second. Thanks for for doing you and
you and Irene for for the calls that y'all made
reaching out to other people on this show, Cowboy Nico
for one, but but others as well. I really appreciate
(35:27):
that it's been it's above and beyond, and but it's
kind of kind of goes to show the people that
that y'all are So thanks for doing that. It's great
to listen to to uh Nico. He sounds great, and
you know, it sounds like things are going good. But
but you know, I'm glad that you, you know, you
were able to call and check up on people him
and others as well. I just want to say thank
(35:49):
you for that.
Speaker 15 (35:50):
Oh yeah, no problem, man. And so like I say, Man,
I mean, I'm a goof and I'm I'm silly and
I'm super positive mister delusional or whatever, David the Delusional.
But at the end of the day, man, like this
this stuff means a lot to me.
Speaker 14 (36:02):
Man.
Speaker 15 (36:02):
Like I said, I'm a military vet. You know, I
did eight years and I've seen some great things. I've
seen some some not so great things. And you know,
if I could be a little spark, literally a little
because you've met me, bro, I'm not a big guy.
If I could be a little spark to somebody, Man,
I try to be so yeah, but I appreciate the
kind of words with that being said. Man, Diggs, Dig
Dig being gone, It just you know, it is what
(36:24):
it is, but it reminds me of To me, it's
like a big what if, Like what if Diggs and
Bland could have actually played when they were you know,
back to back, you know, just doing phenomenally like you know,
it just brings me to like those what if scenarios,
like what if you know, Mary Cooper would have stayed
while Lamb became began to flourish, Like what if Romo
didn't get hurt in twenty sixteen? You know, what if
(36:46):
Travis Frederick didn't have his health issues? You know, like
those what if moments. I was just wondering if if
you had a what if moment like that. And then
with the defense, you know, with Dig being gone, loose
possibly being gone, like they're gonna have the Dallas Cowboys
are going to have to have an off season with
the defense like they had with the offense last off season.
You know, we're getting Javonte. Nobody was super hyped up
(37:08):
about it, but it turned out to be a really
good thing. Getting pickings I was. I feel like one
of the few people that were like super excited about that.
I feel like other people were kind of just like, Okay, yeah,
you know, it's a great addition. But we'll see. And
as far as this game, I'm hoping the Dallas Cowboys play,
but I'm hoping the starters play at least a little bit,
like some other people say, at least a half time.
I want them to get up. I want them to win.
(37:29):
To me, it's about winning.
Speaker 14 (37:30):
Nick.
Speaker 15 (37:30):
I've always told you this is my entertainment. I don't
have much else outside of this, so I'm excited about it.
And I want to wish you, Chris, all the Soloderliners
just a happy new Year. And I want to say this, man,
I just want to say. This is just one real
quick thing and it's all my heart. It's kind of
on what you were talking about tonight. Whenever you guys
are having a good time, anybody that's listening, whenever you're
(37:50):
having a good time, you know, enjoy it. But remember
three things. And I always try to remember three things.
Remember who you are, remember where you're from, and remember
who you represent. Cause if you think about those three
things before you make any bad decision. You probably won't
make that bad decision.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
You guys have a great fear, all right, thanks for
thanks for the call and uh words of wisdom there,
so you say that, and then you know I wrote
down what if you're asking me what if moments? You know,
from a Cowboys standpoint, you know, like these, what if
(38:26):
these this didn't happen? I mean, the two biggest ones
for me, I always in Cowboy history were always the
what if Deon Sanders had been called for past interference
on Michael Irvin in the ninety four championship game? And
then also what if you know, the officials had had
called it right the first time? And given that, does
(38:48):
the catch? And then in Green Bay? What happens there?
You know, do the Cowboys go for two, do they
go up by three? Do they stop Aaron rodgersy? I
don't know if they really stopped them, so that that
one's not you know, I just want to see it, though.
I want to be able to see it, just like
I don't know if the Cowboys come back and beat
the forty nine ers, but with that ninety four game,
but I sure would have liked to seen that call.
(39:10):
Cowboys probably go score and then they got five minutes
to go down three, I'll take my shot there. So
those are the cowboy what if moments that I always have.
But then again, you know, I always think that you
know about the word if, And there's different variations of this,
but I always remember there was a former basketball player
(39:33):
named Dennis Scott played at Georgia Tech, played for a
lot of the NBA teams, and Mavericks one of them,
and I remember a quote he said about if they
did this, they would have won, or if they did this,
and he says, I if was a fifth, we'd all
be drunk. So that's what I always think about the
word if. Let's go to break one more time on storyline,
we'll come back and wrap it up.
Speaker 13 (39:53):
All right, Cowboys fans, this one's for you. Jill Let's

Speaker 18 (41:24):
Good morning, Nick? Happen you heard all you guys?
Speaker 2 (41:26):
You too?
Speaker 14 (41:27):
So?
Speaker 18 (41:28):
I just wanted to make a comment. Listen to a
couple of callers, or at least one for sure. You
mentioned about Dak Blane. You know, I don't really care
if Dak Blaze or not. We've all played sports with
some capacity. Everybody wants to get on the field and play.
It's a decision he wants to make. I would just say,
you know, at what point do the coaches kind of
(41:48):
protect the players from themselves, you know, from situations like that,
And we certainly don't want to see anything happen to him.
It's not like we haven't seen other quarterbacks, you know,
from other teams lose their jobs because they sustained uh
you know, a major injury or whatever. So I just
wanted to get your thoughts on that. Then, Uh see
(42:10):
what you think?
Speaker 2 (42:11):
Yeah? Is that it orn? Or is that your last point?
Speaker 5 (42:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 18 (42:17):
Well, you know, the thing about it is is like
I said, you know, he wants to play. They all
want to play, sure, but you know, well they don't.
Speaker 2 (42:26):
They don't all want to play, you know what I mean,
Like like they all they don't all want to play.
They want the glory of having success and all that,
but not everybody wants to play and do the things
necessary to play at the highest level. And if they
if they don't do that, and then they mess around
and and and don't follow the rules, then then they
get shipped out of here. So when you say that
(42:48):
they want to play, but not everybody wants to play
and commit to this fully and and Dak does. You know,
Dak was fighting through it for a contract two years ago.
Unlike others, Unlike CD, unlike Micah, unlike Zach Martin. You know,
Dak's there every day. He's the leader of this football team.
He's earned the right if he to me, if he's like, hey,
(43:10):
I want to play and finish this out, then you
go play because you've earned that right. When when he
didn't fight, he didn't go through a contract negotiation and
wasn't there, he knew how bad that would hurt the team.
So to me, and I think you agree with me.
But what I'm saying is is that I think Dak's
earned the right to go and do this.
Speaker 18 (43:30):
Absolutely, He's definitely earned the right. I just I certainly
don't want to see him, you know, regret something that
you know, obviously next year's coming around and everything, and
on top of that, let's be all honest you know,
I don't know about everybody. I would like to see
a little bit of Joe Milton out there to see
what actually he can do against you know, you know,
(43:51):
pull three quarters of the game. But I certainly understand
why he wants to play. He's definitely earned the right
to play.
Speaker 12 (43:57):
Yeah, I'll never quite Yeah, well, you.
Speaker 2 (44:01):
Know, he should definitely start the game, and he should start,
and then you know, from there we'll see, you know,
what happens.
Speaker 14 (44:09):
Now.
Speaker 2 (44:09):
The sad part would be, thanks for the caller, and
we're gonna have to keep it moving. The sad part
of that would be Dak starts the game, say that
they're winning ten ten, nothing, ten three, whatever, Milton comes in,
whatever happens, they don't win the game. You know, then
that'll be the Cowboys loss, you know, to the Giants,
(44:29):
and Dak is now whatever, you know, his first loss
against the Giants because he's the starting quarterback, even though
you know he may not be. He wouldn't be the
reason they lost, but but it's still is going to
fall from him either way. That's fine. You know, I
think you don't start the game and then then maybe
he gets banged up or whatever. Next year and then
(44:50):
they're talking about how durables dak he hasn't played a
full season since twenty nineteen or whatever it is, And
you're like, no, actually he did play a full season,
but then he set that game out. No one remembers
all that that should go start the game from from there.
Kind of see what happens all right, Dylan in Northport, Florida, Dylan.
Speaker 19 (45:09):
How's it going good?
Speaker 2 (45:10):
How are you doing?
Speaker 7 (45:11):
Hey?
Speaker 14 (45:11):
Good? Hey?
Speaker 19 (45:12):
I'm looking at the YouTube chat here and Rob's got
like a fan club going because there's a Rob from
Vegas guy talking, but there's also like a Vegas rob
Zilla as well. I just noticed so like people are
starting tone themselves after Rob. I guess that's the thing
that's happening.
Speaker 2 (45:23):
Hey, hey, I listened to the spaces. I mean I
heard a few things. I mean there were some there
were some more you know comments in there, like there
are people that are like Rob, I got a question
for you, and he's like, yeah, sure, go ahead. I mean,
like he's it's almost like he's kind of the star
over there.
Speaker 19 (45:41):
Rob needs his own show. I think we got to
get him on a camera. I don't know I how
much on camera, but we got we gotta get him
from a mic or something.
Speaker 2 (45:48):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, believe me. I believe me.
When you get your own show, you definitely you know,
get you get the big head and you know your
ego just go oh, we can't have that. I've been there,
yeah yeah, yeah, go yeah.
Speaker 14 (46:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 19 (46:05):
Going to the football stuff, Michael from Bowling Green he
called yesterday this listed all the needs we have on defense,
which is like everything.
Speaker 4 (46:10):
That's Ford tackle, right.
Speaker 2 (46:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 19 (46:13):
But the good thing is you don't need high end
guys all the spots, and you know, you're looking for
guys in a free agency in the draft that kind
of fit. The puzzle has puzzle pieces, and it all
depends on who you bring in here. As DC, you
know kind of what the system is going to be
and all that, but it's all an ecosystem where like
you might need like ten guys, but you get one
or two really really good guys, and now those need
Darna's dire. So you know, I'm looking forward to kind
(46:36):
of what they're doing here in free agency the coming
months in the draft and DC and I really think
that if they get just a few of the right pieces,
they can just be even just an average defense man,
they can turn this thing around quickly, and they could
be you get an average defense with this offense, and
all of a sudden you're an actual Super Bowl contender.
So hopefully, you know, they take this this coaching search
very serious because that's step one of this whole deal
(46:59):
and mostly where they go from there.
Speaker 2 (47:01):
Yeah, for sure. I mean, and then you know you
think about that too, is is that it starts with
the coaches because the coaches need to have you know,
the vision for for the right player and and and
they're going to sign guys that that that aren't rated
high on on whatever PFF list. There is a free agency,
and you know you're like, well, why this guy? Why
(47:21):
not him?
Speaker 19 (47:22):
Just like people a guy like Jaron Curse, right, Like
Curse wasn't really great, right, but he came in and
he fit the scheme perfectly.
Speaker 2 (47:28):
Dante Williams is Davonte Williams is another example of that too.
So you know, but but you're right, it starts with
the coaches though that that that's got to be right.
Guys have to figure that out. You know, this is
this has not been a good situation, and you know
that this last game and Washington just kind of showed
a lot of those things with you know, that whole
(47:50):
weird scenario with Logan Wilson. But you know, I'll say
this too. You know players, you know players, don't they
they have a chance to talk in the middle of
a game. So I find that kind of odd too.
If if you're expecting to play and you haven't played,
and all of a sudden they just forgot about you.
You know, this isn't Kevin and Home alone, where they
(48:11):
just for forgot and they just took off to France.
I mean, you could say something, you know, say something, so.
Speaker 20 (48:17):
I don't, right, right, but no, But is that a
kind of a weird thing though, where like Logan Wilson
came in in the middle of the season, doesn't really
have as big a voice as maybe you would have
in a full off season.
Speaker 19 (48:28):
So he's a little bit has man. So I guess, yeah,
you should speak up. But maybe there's something to that.
Speaker 2 (48:33):
I don't know. It's it's not like it would have
changed a lot. Is he going to make that tackle
on the on the Washington running back? Maybe? I mean,
but it's just you know, the whole the whole, the
whole trip kind of was was kind of symbolized a
lot of things. There's confusion on the defense and lack
of communication here. And you know, thanks for the call, Dylan.
(48:54):
I appreciate that. I'll say this one more thing about
about digs and and you know, it really just comes
down and and it was a lack of communication with
him his whole his whole career here seemed like it,
but especially at the end. Just as for a guy
that didn't tell him where they were gonna he was
gonna be, didn't you know, for the off season, didn't
didn't communicate the right way about when he was going
(49:16):
to try to leave. And I think I don't think
he did it the right way. How about on the field,
who's playing zone, who's playing man? Communication? There was always
kind of an issue with with Trayvon. So that's it
is what it is. It's sad that that that ended
that way. But I think, you know, for the Cowboys
trying to build their their culture and do things the
right way, they you know, we we knew it wasn't
(49:38):
probably going to be a great fit. When they did
that interview on the field together Micah and and and Trayvon,
I think the writing was on the wall. For both
of them. And I'm not saying that that was the reason,
but I think you could kind of tell that that
their mindset wasn't the same as what the Cowboys were
wanting here. All right, last show of the week, last
(49:58):
show of twenty twenty f five. You guys have have
a great and safe new year, I think started to
Sue said it best make their make good decisions here,
good choices as well. Be safe on the road, not
just for yourself, be safe for the other guy, uh
as well. All Right, guys. For Chris Beam, I'm Nick Eatman.
We'll see you next time. On Cowboys Storylines.
Speaker 1 (50:20):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
