Speaker 3 (00:11):
Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
This is Cowboys Storyline presented by Gillette, the official shave
of the Dallas Cowboys. Here's Nick Eatman.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Good morning, Welcome to Cowboys Storyline. It is Friday, October seventeenth,
final show of the week, final show before the Cowboys
take on the Washington Commanders. I don't think I've let
it slip all week, right, I'm pretty sure I caught
myself a couple times, but I think I've said Commanders
every time. You know, now, we still I still use

(00:49):
the other word every now and again when we're talking
about way back in the day in the game against
them in the seventies eighties, But you know, been the
Commanders for a while, I guess it's starting to sound normal.
But I still use Washington as much as I can
because it's still Dallas Washington. The rivalry has always been there.
But anyways, we'll talk about that. See what you think.

(01:11):
I'm sure there'll be a lot of predictions. There's already
been some this week so and every one of them
seems to be a pretty high scoring game. Why wouldn't
it be. I mean, Cowboys are one of the best
or the best offense in the NFL and then of
the worst defenses in the league. So when that happens there,
they're gonna score points. They're gonna go up points. So
just see if they can get the most at the end.

(01:32):
Let's get it going here. Eight eight eight eight five
five to two ninety seven. Daveyon from Illinois's next. He's first,
what's up?

Speaker 4 (01:40):
What's going on? Big guy?

Speaker 5 (01:42):
Are you?

Speaker 4 (01:43):
I'm good man. I'm on days this week, so it's
been hard to get in, but I had to try
again for the weekend hit.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
Yeah, well what you're thinking?

Speaker 4 (01:54):
Well, honestly, a couple of a couple of comments in
the question. Yes, they show always good. I really appreciate
Blair and Sebastian Skyll. There was some good subject from
them two guys. And good to get the new first
time zone too.

Speaker 6 (02:08):
Oh yeah, I had.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
A question I wanted to ask. I'm glad I finally
got on to ask. I know we got rumor circulating
that crazy about the trades and stuff like that, but
if if you can make we can make a trade
in your opinion, what's be the first thing you're trying
to trade for what position pass rush?

Speaker 1 (02:31):
I mean, I mean, I don't think it's even close.
What else would it be. I mean, because I just
think that's the one spot that will make everybody better.
And I think it's been proven. I just don't think
they'ren Bland and and and Malie Cooker and Donald Wilson,
Trayvon Diggs. I don't think they forgot how to play football.
I don't. I think I think that they're a lot
better when there's a better pass rush.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
I wanted. I wanted to be a linebacker. I've been
I've been harping on it. I was harping on the
space about it last night. I just I really think
we need a linebacker. They can kind of get everybody
lined up like they need to and hit the right gaps.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Yeah, but I am.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
I'm not mad at a pass rusher, but I know,
I uh, before I go, I wanted to get my
prediction forty one thirty eight Cowboys. I think we're gonna
be a shootout. I think we get get a tracked
shoes on. It's gonna be gonna track shoes to lead
to the bye week to the Boys. So they're into
this whatever flues trying to get them to do on
a weekly basis. We're just going to attract you on
so hopefully we can get a win this week and

(03:27):
get back get that nasty taste out of our mouth
from last week.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
All right, all right, I like it. You know what.
That's a that's a great, great leadoff question and lead
off topic. Thanks Davion for the call. Sometimes when that happens,
it kind of can carry on for the for the
rest of the show. What what what position would would
you be if you're going to trade? If you're gonna
make a trade, who who do you want? What's the position?

(03:50):
Don't tell me who because we can't really get into
all that, but but I but I do want to
hear what what what would be the position? I wouldn't
think there'd be a lot of different options here, but uh,
you never know. It's surprised me a little bit. Let's
go to Brian in Kansas City.

Speaker 6 (04:05):
Good morning, sir.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
Hey, I'm doing good man, I'm doing good.

Speaker 6 (04:09):
I'm with you. I think it's pass rush. If it
was the off season, I would say middle linebacker. But
I don't think because that guy's usually the green dot.
I don't think you can bring them in in the
middle of the season. Yeah, I just think it's going
to be too different. And I know we got our
bye week coming up and everything. But if you know,
if Sean Lee was ten years younger and that now

(04:30):
there's a guy, so there are people who could do it,
and he's a guy who could do it, you could
bring him in and in two weeks he would know
the defense better than everybody else, right, right, right, But
I agree, the only person you can bring in now,
and I think you have to go all in. I
won't name names, but it's got to be an elite

(04:52):
pass rusher. Don't go get me somebody that got six
sacks last year. It's got to be somebody top of
the line.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Yeah, because they done that. They did that, it's called
Dante Fowler. I mean, yeah, yeah, no, you're right, you're right.
It's got to be somebody that that that scares the offense,
you know, that, somebody that the quarterback is a little
worried about.

Speaker 6 (05:13):
So somebody somebody that they say, hey, put two bodies
on that guy. Yeah, yeah, you know that's my thinking.
All right, So this week I'm thinking, uh, I'm going
with with Aubrey's gonna set the record with a sixty
eight yard field goal, and we're still going to fall short.
It's going to be thirty three thirty Commanders. And this

(05:38):
is the week where they say they've had enough, they
get rid.

Speaker 7 (05:41):
Of Fluse and we go back to twenty.

Speaker 6 (05:44):
Eleven and we bring back Rob Ryan. Oh my goodness,
I'll hang up and listen, man, have a good.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
One, all right, then, I don't see that happening that.
The last part that's funny is that, you know, thirty
three to thirty Washington. I mean, that's pretty much what
it's been. I don't I don't think this. What's funny
is that the Cowboys did not play well in the

(06:10):
first game at all, you know, on defense in the
first half. Then against the Eagles and then they kind of,
you know, slowed them down and everything kind of slowed down,
and they lost the game twenty four to twenty. I mean,
let's see, what did what did the Jets score? I
guess the Jets scored twenty two? They got twenty two.
I was gonna say, was that the lowest points that

(06:31):
they've given up? I do, yeah, I do think the
Jets end up with twenty two. That was late. I
mean that was their best no doubt about it. That
was their best defensive performance. But I mean the Jets
are winless and their quarterback had our awful game last week.
So that's not saying a whole out there. I mean,
you know, they give up thirty three points. What I

(06:52):
was about to say, is is that a good thing?
But no, it's that would be bad again. They got
to figure out a way to win. You know, Dak
said it yesterday. I mean, we just got win. We
have to win this game. And I think this is
a very important game for both teams. That's why I
think it's going to be a really, really good one.
I think it's going to come down to the very end.
Who makes that stop. You know, the Cowboys have scored

(07:14):
forty points in both of their games at AT and
T Stadium, and at the end of the game, they
got to stop one way or another. You know, the defense.
I mean, say what you will, but the Packers did
not score. They were thrown into the end zone. They
did not score. They had to settle for the tie.
The Giants they gotta they throw an interception. You know,
Russell threw a bad pass and it was an interception

(07:35):
and the Cowboys went and won the game. So you know,
the defense gotta stop at the end. That's kind of
what I'm thinking, you know, That's what I picked is
forty to thirty four Cowboys are going to get some
kind of stop and score another forty. I'm just going
to keep it riding that, all right. Raza in Virginia
is our next caller.

Speaker 8 (07:54):
Hey you Nick's up? So yeah, so just about this game,
I feel like speaking to my brother in law and
his neighbor, they're a little worried as well because they're
Washington fans, and you know, they're worried about their defense. Sure,
and looking at the injury report, I think we should.

(08:15):
We definitely have to win this game. It's looking like
Nodings Armstrong might not play, looking like Terry mcclurin might
not play, looking like Deebo Samuels might not play. So
our defense, you know, they they I know they've been horrible,
but this is a game where you know, if you
don't win this game or can't even get that one
key stop like you said, or two key stops, then

(08:37):
I mean I don't know this, don't Yeah, you have
to win with that report. Yeah, well it's looking like
we should like because they're gonna have Noah Brown, Luke McCaffrey,
like we should. We have two twenty million dollar corners,
step up, step up and shut those receivers down. I
predict us to win based on how the injury report

(08:59):
will look. We'll see how Friday's injury apart comes out,
we'll see if they're going to play or now, but
it looks like they might miss. I'm like with you,
I think it should be we score forty points like
we have at home, and they'll score probably like thirty
two thirty four points. And that's my prediction. And I
better get the wind or I don't know how the
sea what's going to go. Yeah, I'll have much high
hopes after that, but let's see.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
All right, thanks for the Coloraza. You know when you
say that about the injuries, you know what's fun. And
I don't know all of their their stuff. I mean
I haven't looked at it that closely yet. You know,
today's the day where that's when they you know, designate
or you're out or you doubtful or or or questionable,

(09:43):
And you say Dorian's Armstrong may not play. Okay, Terry
McLaurin may not play, And I know he's a he's
a really good player, but he hasn't been dominant really
against the Cowboys, you know, and they've had some success
if they play man. I mean, digs Is had his
number a little bit when he faces him. But you

(10:04):
say that about Deebo Samuel, and I kind of perk up, like, oh,
oh really, because that guy's killed the Cowboys. There's no
doubt about it, not with the forty nine ers. But still,
I mean, he's he's just a nightmare to match up with.
And so I don't again, I don't know the situation,
but you know, when I look at that kind of stuff,
I see what the Cowboys have had on injury wise,
and I try not to make a big deal of

(10:25):
it because no one cares when the Cowboys are down
with these guys, you know what I mean. So I
don't really care who's hurt and you know who isn't.
But I mean because even when Jayden Daniels left the
game and in the last game of the season against Washington,
you know, I mean, he left the game and Mariota
comes in and won it for him, So you know,

(10:46):
The way I look at it is is that you
know is next man up. The Cowboys have to deal
with it, and Washington will as well Sebastian and Savannah Georgia.
He's next man up. What's up? Good you?

Speaker 9 (10:59):
I'm doing just trying listen. If you guys saw last
night's football game, Aaron Rodgers going up against Joey Flack. Oh,
Joe Flacco just got shipped off from the Brown to
the Bengals for like a dollar tree Christmas ornament and
he beat Aaron Rodgers. So the tools matter to the carpenter.
And you know, for people like how much help does
Dak Prescott need?

Speaker 4 (11:16):
He has all the.

Speaker 9 (11:17):
Help that he needs. And that's why we're gonna get
the dub this week. I'm gonna go twenty eight twenty
four Cowboys. Now. The reason that I say that is
because as much as we love DQ and praise DQ
around here, because of how bad our defense has been.
Dan Clint's defense is twenty fifth right now in the league.
They're giving up a lot of yards. They're only like
fifty yards behind us. The only difference is they buckle

(11:37):
it up in the red zone a little bit, so
they've only given up like thirteen touchdowns, not gonna be
a problem. On the other hand, they got a QB
that loves the run. I mean, this kid loves the
run like RD three back in the day. But we're
gonna go ahead. It's gonna be another backyard burner. But
we're not gonna get above thirty this time, and our
defense is gonna hold just enough to get us at
w You guys have a great week, Cowboys, and I
hope everybody's feeling good today.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
And I think of a listen, thanks for the call.
You know you're right. Quarterback Jaydon Daniels. I mean he
now he's been banged up, but yeah, he didn't run
a lot last week, and of course his last play
from scrimmage was a was a fumble. But but you know,

(12:18):
I don't think he's having the best season. It's been good,
but I mean he hasn't. He's I'm not even gonna
call it a sophomore slump. It's not that, it's just
it's you know, teams kind of it's hard for your
second year. Teams kind of figure you out a little
bit more. They spend all off season to kind of
see what you know how to how to game plan
against him, and you know, the great ones find a

(12:41):
way to kind of come back over the top from that.
And I and I think he is that. I mean,
he's he's gonna be really tough for the Cowboys this week,
just because he's a good thrower, he's a good runner,
he stays out of trouble, and and he you know,
he's got it tied end. And ERT's that you talk
about turning back the clock. I mean ERT's is there
still doing it, you know, and still doing it at

(13:02):
a high level. So they're going to move the ball,
There's no doubt about it. They're gonna run it. They're
gonna they're gonna you know, and they run the ball well.
They're one of the top ten rushing teams in the NFL,
and he's a part of that. Daniels is a part
of that for sure. All Right, let's go to Ali
in Florida.

Speaker 10 (13:18):
Happy Friday, my dear friends.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
How are you pretty good?

Speaker 7 (13:22):
Sir? How are you good?

Speaker 9 (13:25):
Okay?

Speaker 10 (13:25):
So I'm not a very important person to call every day,
but I try to call once a week and then
listen to everybody. So I'm a good listener. So I've
got a couple of things very quick for you have
my take, and I've got a trivia for you and
a suggestion. First of all, the elephant in the room.
You know we have a bad defense, but you have

(13:47):
a caller yesterday that it says put them on the
front office, and a coaching It's just like, it's not
one thing to fix, it's so many other things. But
if you look at the Cowboys record two three and one,
we were in the game with the ego, we were
with the Green Bay, and we were with the Panthers.

(14:09):
If you really get a little lucky, it could be
easily three wins. But having said that, I'm not here
to grind over spilt milk. But to me, the defense
need to play a little bit better, and I like
the chances. I never thought we're going to go to
Super Bowl this year, but getting the playoff planning for

(14:34):
next year, that's great. Second, I think.

Speaker 7 (14:38):
To grow the show.

Speaker 10 (14:40):
It is so nice to maybe it's Derek, allow you
to have a second line designated for the new callers only,
so when they called once they go back in the
line on the rest of us, so we can't get
the few new collars every week. So my trivia for
you that I have a nickname for you. I'll call

(15:02):
you a goat. You have such an unbelievable knowledge.

Speaker 11 (15:07):
So who was a.

Speaker 10 (15:09):
Linebacker Cowboys drafted and converted to the defensive line that
he was just not as good as yet I think
in my era, he was just as good as Michael Parson.
Then I hang over, listen, love your.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
Brother, all right, Well, thank you for the call, and
you hung up. So a linebacker moved to the D line,
that's just as good as Michael Parsons. I mean, the
only the only one that comes to mind there is
Randy White. I mean, Randy White was a linebacker in college,
and he was a linebacker early on with the Cowboys,

(15:48):
and then they kind of converted him to defensive tackle.
That that's that's got to be the answer, unless I'm
missing somebody else. But Randy White he was in the anster.
I mean he was. He was pretty pretty damn good.
So if you're going to be that good and compare
him to Michael Parsons, and you know, as an All

(16:09):
Pro and a Hall of Famer, that's that's that's the
that is one answer, And that's certainly not a wrong answer.
I'm not sure if that's the player that you were
talking about. But I can't imagine one better than that.
He was a linebacker and he was a really great player,
and he went to the Hall of Fame. So all right,
let's go to h Jeremy in d C. Jeremy, what's
up are you?

Speaker 5 (16:31):
I'm all right, man, you're staying out of trouble today.
You're fatty.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
We'll see, you know, we'll see. I'm not going to
say yes or no on anything, just just yet.

Speaker 5 (16:40):
I know it's too early for you to hurt somebody.
To make sure you're staying out of trouble, at least
not too early.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
I swear, if you could see how I have to
get my son ready for school every day, not too early.

Speaker 5 (16:51):
But I got a couple of injury questions for you, Nick.
So I want to know how my boy came Coston
doing because he haven't been the same since he tried
to tackle Derrick Henry. So I just want to know
how how he holding up? Is he coming back this week?
And then I want to know how's the bb because

(17:11):
I missed the BBI brock Hoffman and he doing okay,
But I don't watch the last game, probably like four
five times man, and they were taking advantage of Rock.
So I think we need the.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
BB back, Yeah, I mean yeah, I definitely think that
that was an absolute tough matchup there. I don't know
if BB's holding up that. I don't know. I'm not
going to say that he wouldn't because you know, that's
just that's his style of play. He likes to what
they say, dirt people, you know, put him in the
dirt up. Derek Brown and Ashawn Robinson certainly won that

(17:44):
battle up front. I mean BB and UH and Booker
were missed UH for sure in that game, and Carolina
took advantage for sure. But what was your other other
point there?

Speaker 5 (17:58):
How how is Kaylen coffin coming back?

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Okay, all right, thanks real quick?

Speaker 7 (18:04):
Can you tell it?

Speaker 5 (18:05):
Because you tell a lot of stories about people, but
I've never heard you tell a story about Big Nate Newton,
and he in the building with you, so I want
to know if you got a story about him, and
then I hit that on the other side. Of course,
have a good weekend, brother, you are in the family.
Cowboy Nation, love yall.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
Thank you, Jeremy, Kaylen Carson. He's he's supposed to be
back this week now. I don't know if that means
he will be you know, they got they got to
make a move to put him on the roster, so
that I think that that's what they're expecting to do.
I'm not sure who he's going to replace and if
he if he does play. You know, I'm not super

(18:43):
high on him. I mean, I don't is he Is
he better than what you have? I mean, it's not.
I guess we'll find out, you know what I mean.
He's a young player. He hasn't practiced a lot. He
missed a lot of time this offseason, and and and
and didn't participate really in the preseason game, so or
that much of that. So you know, he needs to play.
I mean, he's a he's a mystery. I mean, I

(19:04):
really I don't know what to expect with him. I
know he did some good things in training camp and
then that he had to start and he did and
didn't go that well, we'll see what his confidence looks like.
But and that's for a story on Nate Newton. Well,
I mean Nate, Nate. I got a lot of stories

(19:25):
on Nate. I mean before I even was working here,
you know, I mean, but but my very first training camp.
I wasn't working for the Cowboys. I was actually working
for a city the city paper in Wichita Falls, so
in that when the Cowboys came to training camp. And
I'll never forget this. It was ninety eight and and

(19:48):
I'm I'm you know, I'm that was a few cheeseburgers
that go for me. You know, I was a little
lighter than I am now. And so the wind, you know,
blew one way. I mean, I'm I might, I might
go down. I mean I was pretty thin back then.
And I tell this because I was sideline training camp
goal line, right there at the goal line, and I

(20:09):
remember they were Cowboys, ran some kind of sweep to
our direction, and here comes Emmett maybe or Chris Warren
or I don't know who it was. But you know,
you've got to be careful. Next thing, you know, Nate's running. Now,
I'm I'm not close to Nate. I'm not he's going
to miss me. He's walking, he's running by, I'm out
of the way, but he just decides to just shove me,

(20:31):
just just cuz. And you know, I was like at
the five yard line, baby, and I went back into
the end zone. I guess he kind of pushed me
that way, but I mean it was just a simple
little shove, and I've asked him about it. I mean,
not that he would remember, but he was just like,
oh yeah, I mean, if I'm all around that farm,
I hit somebody, you know. And so I was the

(20:51):
one on that one. So that that's my Nate story
before I was working here. All right, let's go to
break real quick on Cowboys storyline. Be right back.

Gelette all Right, it's the number to call. Steve in

(23:04):
New York has called it. He's on the line. What's up.

Speaker 14 (23:08):
What's up, Nick, Steve. I'll keep it pretty quick. Forty
forty Again, I like everyone else, I can't see this
being uh low scoring. But I just want to say
that I'm I guess I'm in the minority because you know,
I don't want to make any trades now. I don't
think this is a fixable defense. I think you can
improve it, but you know, and I think people forget

(23:31):
a little bit. You know, when we traded that guy
to Green Bay. You know, I know we got a
clock back who who I like? But who on this
defense is the guy that when coordinators from other teams
are playing and say, okay, we you know, we have
to watch this guy. You know, we don't have.

Speaker 1 (23:48):
That guy the problem.

Speaker 7 (23:49):
You're right, yeah, and that.

Speaker 14 (23:53):
Guy makes players around him better. And I'm talking I'm
not signaling out guys, but the Dante Fowlers and the
guys who you know, there's probably a reason why you're
not getting the production now because no one's focusing on
that guy anymore because we don't have him. You can't
get him in the trade.

Speaker 11 (24:08):
I don't.

Speaker 14 (24:09):
I don't think that particular player is available now. So
and I'm not a mock draft guy. I don't look
at him. But come draft day, I want those picks.
I would like all the all the picks that we
got from the trade. So it was that four two.
We'll have two first rounders, right, and do we have
a second and third?

Speaker 1 (24:31):
I think Pickens was the third.

Speaker 14 (24:33):
Third. Okay, well, see another reason to resign him, but
I won't. I won't get into that. Yeah, but okay,
so trivia real quick. You know this rivalry with Washington
is weird. From ninety seven to two thousand and two,
Cowboys actually beat him ten times. And so if you're
a Cowboy, then you know those weren't exactly good cowboy

(24:55):
years before for whatever reason. And you get every trivia Dick.
So I got hit a punter trivia today, all right? Uh,
speaking of Mike Micah Kanor was the punter in that
two thousand and two season, but he got hurt. He
was replaced by a guy who played I think about
nine games, was a punter for the Cowboys. Are the

(25:15):
only nine games he ever played in his NFL career.
You know who he is.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
This is the first and last name start with the
same letter.

Speaker 14 (25:25):
Yes, it's this isn't.

Speaker 1 (25:27):
Okay, this is an all time namer right here is
this Philip Philippovitch.

Speaker 14 (25:32):
Yeah, you're the best, snick uh that is correct.

Speaker 1 (25:36):
Yep, you're the best. For bringing Philip Philip Philipovich whatever
to he was like the nicest guy in the world too,
Like he was a super nice guy. Yes, man, but
I'm telling you I he's another one that I may
not have ever brought up again, Philip Philippovitch. I think

(25:57):
that's how you say it.

Speaker 14 (25:59):
Yeah, yep, I was getting I was gonna keep mad.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
I was like, don't bring the punter in here, because
there was a there was a punter. There was a
name that came by like Holarado Coloradu or something like that. Haralulu.

Speaker 11 (26:13):
I forget.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
I don't know how to say that. I forget his
name from about ten years ago.

Speaker 14 (26:20):
I think I know the guy you're talking about.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
But anyways, I was like, that's the first thing they
came up, Like, oh, it's gonna be something like that.
Philip Philipovitch Philipovich.

Speaker 14 (26:28):
Yeah, you don't think we're going to hear that on
Friday show.

Speaker 1 (26:31):
No, I didn't, No, I didn't. I love that. All right,
Steve thinks.

Speaker 14 (26:34):
Have a great week, go Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
You know, you know what's great about that? And well,
the worst part is I threw my pen and that
was not the smartest thing ever. But that's okay. But
the fact that so I chuckled a couple of times
during Steve's call, you to be honest. I mean, everything
you're saying is right about they don't have that guy.

(26:58):
They don't have that guy. But he said when we
traded that guy to Green Bay, you know, just just
that guy. And he's not mentioning him by name at all.
He didn't do it once except for when we're talking
about the punter, Micah Nor, who was hurt. Then he
would then he was like, okay, speaking of Micah, but

(27:19):
you really weren't speaking of Michaeh. You were speaking of
that guy. I like him. That that's if that's his name,
that's fine. Now they don't have that guy because they
traded that guy and now they need another of that guy,
and so they got to figure him out. All right,
let's go to Jr. And Avandale Arizona Jr.

Speaker 7 (27:37):
What's up morning, Nick?

Speaker 1 (27:40):
First time call her?

Speaker 7 (27:41):
Uh No, I've got to before. Hey, I had to
take my hat off to you that you.

Speaker 11 (27:47):
Could fill up the lip of its name out.

Speaker 7 (27:51):
I would have bet anything that you would not get
that one. You are amazing saying. I tried myself on
Cowboy trivia and I would have never thought of that one.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
I tell you what, if I pat myself on the back,
I'm proud of myself for that one. But I don't
want to break my arm pat myself on the back.
But uh yeah, and and and I am glad about
it because that it got brought up because I remember
him and I you know, because I was I was
pretty young back then too. You know, I was and
didn't have a guy that I talked to a whole lot,

(28:24):
so you know, I grab his head towards anybody. And
he was just a super super nice guy. And and
that's the thing. I mean, Steve Hoffman, the kicking coach
back then, he he wouldn't bring He told me that
he's he said that before. I'm not bringing in jerks.
I'm going to bring in good young people that know
how to kick and punt and we're gonna teach him
and they're gonna be even better. So I mean that
was pretty much the case. You didn't see that a lot,

(28:47):
and he was a really nice guy.

Speaker 7 (28:48):
Yeah, you amaze me. Hey, so thanks. I apologize for
the Jack Samboorren diaper comment yesterday. That was that was
min his tongue in cheek. Yeah, yeah, it's funded, sus
So I apologize. No to answer all these questions, what
was I don't know why I'm thinking this was Tony
Tolbert a linebacker at UTEP and they converted him to

(29:11):
d end I don't know why that popped in my head,
but I don't remember if that was the case or not.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
But if he was, like like if he was a
linebacker like in the scheme, you know, I mean that's
what Dee War was and all that, you know, So
he could have been at UTIP, could have been that
kind of style of a player, and Tony Tolbert at
UTEP could have probably played safety, would have been fine,
you know what I mean. It was just a really
but I mean he probably did play outside linebacker like

(29:39):
a Derrek Thomas type type defense, and it was just
when it was just wrecking people. But uh, Olie actually
did call back and talk to Chris and said that
Randy White was the guy he was mentioning there.

Speaker 7 (29:52):
So but yeah, either way, to answer your question, pass
rusher is that position because that equal those interceptions, that
equal strip sack fumbled, and that equals second and sixteen,
not second and two. So what I like to see
the Cowboys And I'll end it with this. I'm though,
disappointed in the defensive line. I was looking at stats.

(30:14):
I think a dizzy Diggi Zuwa is like eleventh on
the team and tackles, and I want to see the
defensive line start getting some stops. Uh one yard game,
two yard games. So I look for improvement from the
defensive line. Other than that, that's all I got. Have
a great day and go Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
Thank you, j R. I appreciate that. You know you're
you're not wrong at all, Matt. I mean Ilsa being
that far down the tackle list, He's playing a lot.
The ball's going right there, you know, and you're you're
not making them play. There was a couple of moments
in the game you know where we were watching Themember
Derek Eagleton was like, oh, you know, look at this play,
and it was it was a couple of times where

(30:55):
you know, Osa is just getting absolutely moved off the ball.
And I get it. I mean that's it's a double team.
But that's your job as a defensive tackle. You can't
get moved off the ball if it's a double team.
The expectation, you know, is not to win and necessarily
and get up there and make the play. Now Aaron
Donald did, and that's why he's one of the greatest

(31:16):
to ever play it. But the but the the ask
is to at least hold your ground and free up
someone else to go make a play. It's not to
get moved out of your spot. And I'm not saying
that happens a lot with those it happened a couple
of times in that game. And it happened too many
times in that game for ric o'dall. We've watched Rico

(31:38):
daddle for four years, guys, I mean we the light
hasn't just turned on. I mean, like, he's a good,
solid runner, but he's not a guy that should be
getting one hundred and fifty two hundred yard games, you know,
every single week, seven eight yards of pop, no no
back does that. So this is not a disrespect to

(31:58):
him because he you know, he ran hard, he ran mad,
angry and all that stuff. But but the Cowboys helped
in that. They did not do their their job, and
you know, I would I think that's a huge problem
right now. All right, let's go to a casey Joe.
He's in Kansas City.

Speaker 7 (32:19):
Yo.

Speaker 9 (32:20):
How you do?

Speaker 7 (32:21):
How you doing good?

Speaker 4 (32:22):
Doing good?

Speaker 14 (32:23):
Sir?

Speaker 4 (32:23):
How are you doing today?

Speaker 1 (32:24):
Right where we got Hey, it's.

Speaker 11 (32:27):
A happy blue Friday at all our calibory nation.

Speaker 15 (32:31):
And it was really good to hear from Brandy yesterday.

Speaker 6 (32:34):
Yeah, I really, I really appreciated that, even though.

Speaker 4 (32:36):
He was the last caller.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
Yeah, and.

Speaker 14 (32:40):
What we haven't done is we haven't given koodles to
the offensive coordinator, the one that came from Arizona, because
he's really keeping us in the game and calling good plays.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
Yeah, Clayton Adams got his flowers a couple of weeks ago.
There's a lot of Clayton Adams talk. Not so much
after a loss, of course. Uh And you know rightfully, so,
I mean they the offense didn't do It wasn't perfect,
you know, and that's that's the problem. They kind of
need to be they need to be at this point
to offset what the defense is. But they get down

(33:09):
in the red zone, they got to score touchdowns. You know,
they have the game, the balls in Dack's hand, eight
minutes to go. They can't go backwards. So there's some
parts that they needed to clean up. But but it's
you know, we're not pointing that, you know, pointing the
blame there because there's so much to be to go around.
On defense.

Speaker 15 (33:26):
Yeah, it's pretty positive on offense.

Speaker 4 (33:28):
I mean, yeah, it's hard hard to point a finger
at no, it is, but.

Speaker 1 (33:32):
I mean still you I mean, this it is what
it is. I mean, if you want to win games,
I mean you're gonna have to score. That's that's kind
of where where things are right now. They got to
keep scoring and and when you get in the red zone,
you expect them to score. You know, can't go backwards.
That they had a couple of plays that they would
love to have back.

Speaker 8 (33:49):
That's true, that's true.

Speaker 5 (33:51):
Okay, Well I didn't have much.

Speaker 15 (33:52):
I just have a great Friday and we'll talk to.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
You next week. All right, Thank you, Casey. Joe. Always
seems like when when one Kansas City guy calls the
other one does Brian and Joe Casey Joe. I think
it's our only two calls ever from Kansas City, Uh,
maybe the only Cowboy fans there now. I doubt that
Chris Beam was able to UH send over the draft

(34:19):
order UH currently for for the Cowboys. It doesn't include
uh compensatory picks, and the Cowboys should get a few
because they lost some some free agents there with the
law and Jordan Lewis uh Rico, Yeah, okay, yeah, recoatle Yeah,
keep running, buddy, right, if he keeps running, that'll that

(34:42):
will certainly help with that. But as it stands right now,
there is no third and there is no sixth. The
third is for George Pickens trade. The sixth I don't
remember because it could have been something from from last year.
It might have been that like Jordan Phillips or somebody
like that that they traded for for like next year

(35:03):
six which would be this one coming up. But still
to first, a second, a fourth, two fifths, and two sevenths.
So you're looking at eight picks right now. I bet
you there's there's websites that that have what the projected
comp picks are. The max you can get is four.
I would imagine the Cowboys could would be there right

(35:24):
around four, you know, so leven, eleven, twelve picks, and
so that's that's kind of what you have to to
to mess with. That's why I would. You know, it's
still a relatively young team. So is eleven or twelve
guys gonna make this football team next year? So that's
why I think, you know, eight to nine ten draft

(35:44):
picks is probably, uh would be good enough. So I would,
I'd be okay. But if if you found the route
right situation and be okay with a trade there, All right,
let's goh, Michael and bowling green Man.

Speaker 16 (35:58):
I tried to get all every this week all day.
Didn't make it in today on my birthday.

Speaker 1 (36:05):
All right, wow, happy birthday, thank you.

Speaker 16 (36:10):
It took me. I mean, the show is pretty close over.
I've been dynand since ten, but uh, I did. I
just got two quick questions to leave room for some
people with the answer. The first one is with turfing
and CD back, do you think Pickens production will will

(36:30):
be able to stay No?

Speaker 1 (36:34):
Oh, I mean but no, I don't think it'll stay up.
I think it'll go it'll go down. I don't think
he's gonna be getting one hundred and fifty yards of pop,
you know, on a consistent basis. But that's okay, that's
okay if it's because CD is also doing his thing.

Speaker 16 (36:50):
Got to keep him happy, though, Oh yeah.

Speaker 1 (36:53):
I mean, you're you're right. I mean, I just think
it's just more more weapons. It's just more and more
guys are going to gonna get the football. He's probably
not looking at Jalen Tolbert's way as much as he
might be looking at C d So. But but either way,
I mean, it's okay. If his production goes down a
little bit, just still be that that player that that

(37:14):
those teams are scared about.

Speaker 16 (37:16):
All right, let me ask this, all right, Cowboys get
their stretch stuff straight and make it to the NFC
Championship Game. They're gonna beat the Lions to get there,
all right. The Eagles are playing the Packers from the
next spot. Who he's going for?

Speaker 1 (37:35):
Am I on the road for for both games? Am
I on the road?

Speaker 14 (37:41):
No?

Speaker 16 (37:42):
Cowboys already there? And the Eagles are playing the Packers?
Who do you who would you rather the Cowboys faith
in the NFC Championship Game?

Speaker 1 (37:52):
Where's the game?

Speaker 14 (37:52):
Though?

Speaker 1 (37:53):
I'm asking you where's the game. Where's the game going
on the road. Okay, if it's gonna be on the road,
then I'll go to Philly. I've seen yeah, I mean
I've seen them win there. Let's don't bring back, you know,
all the dead stuff, ice Bowl blah blah blah, get
that that gets in their head. No, No, just just

(38:13):
you you've won there, You've won in Philly, Dak's won there,
Go go go win there. That that that's what we
be in mind. But I mean, boyfore that seems seems
kind of far fetched, you know, kind of kind of
seems one of those like if you win the lottery,
how do you want the money?

Speaker 16 (38:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (38:30):
But yeah, I mean sure I would. I would say
a place that you've that you've won, and you're and
you're familiar, going there and going to win.

Speaker 16 (38:41):
I think prediction. I'm gonna go.

Speaker 7 (38:44):
Uh, I'm gonna go.

Speaker 16 (38:46):
It's gonna be a close one. Dallas has got to
score thirty, so I'm gonna go thirty two to twenty
eight downs.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
All right, sounds good? All right, Michael, have a good one.
All right, let's go to break here on Cowboy storyline.

Speaker 1 (40:17):
All right back here on Cowboys storyline. Got a few
more minutes to go. We wrap this show up, wrap
up the week. Let's go back to the phone lines
for Dylan in Northport, Florida. Dylan, what's up?

Speaker 8 (40:29):
How's it going good?

Speaker 1 (40:30):
How are you?

Speaker 15 (40:31):
I'm good, dude. I saw something yesterday. I thought it
was interesting, something you've been talking about. If this defense
just could get just a smidge better, the Cowboys of
being some of these games and come away with some wins.
And I saw this thing called the betrayal Index. That's
first time I've ever seen it. Were compared to the
epas for the quarterback compared against the defense and the
special teams, and it's just it's basically showing how good

(40:52):
are the quarterbacks doing and how bad is their defense?
The last special team's going. And when you look at surprisingly,
the biggest betrayal is for Dak Prescott. The second one
is Baker Mayfield. And Baker Mayfield and his team is
five and one right now, but they're ranked five points
better defensively than the Cowboys, so that just feeds them.
To your point, if the Cowboys can just do a

(41:13):
Smedge more get one or two more stops the game. Defensively,
Cowboys could be a five win team right now.

Speaker 1 (41:18):
Yeah, right, no doubt.

Speaker 11 (41:20):
So, you know, some moves.

Speaker 15 (41:22):
I don't know about personnel moves and all that, But
if the Flues can just fix a couple of things
and get his players in the right spot, and if
the players themselves can make cackles and key moments and
just do a couple of things better, man, yeah, this
team could be. They could have something cooking. I'm with
you there on that hundred percent. As far as my
pick this week goes, I'm just gonna stick to my

(41:42):
football makes no sense in this stupid rule, and you
know it should be a high scoring game, and for
that reason it won't be because everybody expects it to be.
So we're gonna go twenty four to seventeen Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (41:54):
All right, I mean that would be a good one.
All right, Thanks for the call, Dylan, You're you're right.
I mean, that's that's kind of what I mean. That's
I think we're all kind of saying that that that
they they don't have to be you know, they don't
have to just flip the whole thing upside down, just
just just get a little bit better here, make a
few more plays, get a few more pressures. I think

(42:16):
if they just got more pressure, that would lead to
you know, less third down conversions, get off the field,
you know, shorter field, get you know, get in there,
you know, score another touchdown, another field goal, whatever it is.
And so I just think it's the pressure. It's always
starts there with the pressure. And you're right about the
games are weird. As soon as you think it's one way,

(42:37):
it goes to the other. You know, the Cowboys beat
Washington up there in that crazy game last year that
the final score I believe was thirty four to twenty six,
but it was like ten to three or something like that,
or in the or midway through the fourth quarter, and

(42:58):
then all those touch I was trying to think exactly
the other day. I was trying to think about everything
that actually happened. I think the I think Washington cut
it to three, No, maybe they cut it to seven,
and then and then Turpid scored made it fourteen, and
then they came back and made it seven an on sidekick,

(43:20):
the Cowboys punted and it was like twenty seconds to
go up seven in the eighty seven yard touchdown, missed
the extra point on sidekick return for a touchdown. I mean,
but all that was in the final like seven minutes
of the game. So my point is that, you know,
they even the last last year's game, the one with
Trey Lance versus versus Jaydon Daniels and then mariodem it

(43:41):
was pretty low scoring. I guess it was in that
range of the twenties. Uh So we'll see, We'll see
what happens, all right, last call or like two more
callers to go Champing Nebraska, Champ, Let's go check.

Speaker 4 (43:52):
Good morning, Nick, how are you doing?

Speaker 11 (43:55):
I'm well man, Thank you.

Speaker 7 (43:57):
Hey. I got a question.

Speaker 11 (43:58):
I was listening to Shoddy's interview this morning on one
to five point three of the Fan, and he was
talking about how Greg Olsen they kind of called out
one of their deals saying that they were going to
run right. So you know, I got to change that up.
I've been wondering for a fall now, Paul. I love
how much content the dot com gives us as fans.

(44:19):
Could that be a negative effect for the team like
the other teams actually like maybe listen to talk shows,
like have people that listen to talk shows and stuff
to see like, hey, where can we pick up any
little bit of information? I would think back to the
Super Bowl back when Jimmy found the shotgun, that shovel pass,
and you know, on the news station, little things like that.

(44:42):
So with all the content that Dallas Cowboys put out,
is that possibly a negative deal? And my prediction for
this week is all this talk about high scoring, I'm
assuming from your comments as at the last call or
maybe something saying maybe a lower scoring game. I know
both defenses are kind of horrid. So while everybody's thinking

(45:06):
high scoring, I think that both teams kind of know
each other real well, D two and Shati and stuff.
So I'm gonna go a little bit lower scoring. I'm
guessing somewhere about twenty two to sixteen. Kind of a
little scorer got me looking for there. Well, god, Sed,
I'll be done and you guys have a wonderful weekend.

Speaker 1 (45:24):
All right, thank you. You know Champ what you were
talking about, and if people didn't hear this, I guess
you know Greg Olsen, you know, was calling calling plays
like rummost done before, you know, calling plays and kind
of based off of what some of the checks were
that Dak made a check and then this means it's
going to run right or whatever. And then Shottenheimer shared

(45:48):
that that Ceedee Lamb actually texted from home, texted after
the game, like, hey, we got to switch this up
and change this. And Shotty's answer was that is that
they have a lot of calls like that. It sounded
like that Greg Olsen guessed right in that in that
particular case. But but they they have a lot of

(46:09):
phrases that that don't that are dummy calls as well.
They don't always mean that. So they are going to
change some some some things up and and and they do.
But as far as all the content, does it lead
to other things?

Speaker 5 (46:22):
Sure?

Speaker 1 (46:23):
I mean, I I bet it's happened every team now
it's got forty seven coaches and analytics and all that stuff.
So yeah, I'm sure they're diving into to content and
things like that and trying to trying to see some
of that. But you know, does it does it play
a major factor? I doubt it? But but does does
that stuff happen? If you if you were to just

(46:44):
sit there and watch like some of our content or
some of our you know, sounds from the sidelines and
things like that, could could you could you pick up something. Sure,
you probably could, but I don't think it's it's that serious.
But because I don't think it's it's some then they
gets relayed to the players and coaches watch for this

(47:04):
because usually when that happens, I mean, they change those
calls week to week. Greg Olsen is very good and
he knows exactly what he's talking about. I don't know
if if it's like he's caught on to the cow,
I think he. I think he got that one right,
just like Romo gets him right sometimes, but they get
him wrong. They get him wrong too. All right, let's
go one more call of Robbie and Cocobete.

Speaker 15 (47:23):
Robby, Hey, Nick, how's your day going, man?

Speaker 1 (47:26):
How are you going good?

Speaker 7 (47:27):
I'm great. I'm going fishing this afternoon, so I'm doing great.

Speaker 4 (47:30):
Great.

Speaker 7 (47:32):
I got a question for you. I know it's late,
so I'll try to make it quick.

Speaker 14 (47:36):
You think we can put up fifty with CD and
pick and singing coming back?

Speaker 1 (47:40):
Well, I mean, do you have to? That's That's what
I about it.

Speaker 7 (47:47):
I'm worried that we might because if.

Speaker 1 (47:49):
You need to, I mean, that's a three o'clock game,
so that's gonna run into the seven seven o'clock Sunday
night football game. If if the Cowboys score fifty and
have to score fifty, might be the longest game in
the history of football. But I mean could yeah, I
mean I think they can score every time they get
the ball, and I think Washington probably could as well.

(48:12):
So I don't know. It's funny these last two colors.
Like everyone thinks it's high scoring, so we'll go low
scoring and you call it, say they score fifty.

Speaker 7 (48:20):
No, I don't think it's gonna be low scoring at all.

Speaker 4 (48:22):
Man.

Speaker 7 (48:23):
I think it's gonna be crazy because.

Speaker 1 (48:24):
I'm gonna I'm gonna tell you something that that I
think it's gonna be true. Okay, this is one thing
I really believe in. It's gonna be the Washington is
going to score more than twenty and less than fifty.
That's my range. That's it.

Speaker 7 (48:39):
Yeah, they heard.

Speaker 4 (48:40):
That's a great run.

Speaker 1 (48:41):
You heard it first. Okay, Sorry, all those guys, all
those The expert advice is I got your lock right here,
somewhere between twenty and fifty.

Speaker 4 (48:50):
There you go, there you go. That's a good range
for you, Bud.

Speaker 7 (48:53):
All right, Hey, I have a great weekend, enjoying the game,
and we'll talk to you guys Monday.

Speaker 1 (48:56):
All right, see you later. Thank you, Robbie. Great great show, guys.
I mean, this is a lot of a lot of
good calls, good score predictions. You guys fund fun trivia,
Philip Philipovich. Wow, thank you. Thank you for for throwing
that out there. Steve and New York threw that out there.
Let me bring up that blast in the past. I

(49:17):
looked it up, played like ninety, like you said, nine
games one year. I don't know if he played any
other spotties from South Dakota was was the college that
he went to. But man, they they can find him.
They they they found those small school kickers and punters
all over the place. They found Tim Seeter from the classroom.
You know, he was teaching classes and he ended up

(49:39):
kicking for him and back in those days. But but
all right, great great stuff. We'll see what the Cowboys
can do. It's gonna be fun. I think it's gonna
be a really close game. You can it'll be fun
to go to watch the game. But basically you can
just fast forward to the final five minutes of the
game because it's gonna be it's gonna go down to
the end. Can the Cowboys make the plays and can
they get stops on defense? If they can? And I

(50:00):
think they can pull off a win, but it'll sure
it'll be fun to talk about on Monday, all right
For Chris Beam, I'm Nick Eatman. See Monday Cowboys storyline.

Speaker 2 (50:09):
