This is the season of giving and the time when we focus on presents. But it appears there is way more talk about the future than the actual present as we did our final show before Christmas.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
This is Cowboys storyline presented by Gillette, the official shave
of the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Here's Nick Eatman.

Speaker 4 (00:24):
Hello, Welcome to Cowboys storyline presented by Gellette. Nick Eatman,
Final show before Christmas. Will see if we can get
through it, see if my voice can make it through.
The Cowboys obviously two games to go, both on the road.
Who's gonna play, Who's not gonna play? That's the big
question obviously, Cowboys. I still think you're trying to get

(00:44):
some wins. I know Shoty would doesn't want to have
a losing season. So six eight and one, the Cowboys
can get to eight eight and one. We knew that
that was staring them right in the face when they
got that tie against the Packers. And here we go,
just like Jason Garrett did when he first started as
head coach. Eight and eight, Cowboys can get there. They

(01:04):
got to win two games, and we'll see who plays
for them. I know Dak is you know Dak wants
to play, and Cowboys say absolutely, he's going to play
for how long? Don't know yet. Dak was one of
the five players that made the Pro Bowl. That's not
a big surprise for the season that he was having.
Cowboys got five on the Pro Bowl squad for the

(01:28):
twelfth straight year of at least five guys, their second
straight year of exactly five. We'll see if more players
make it as alternates, but Dak, George Pickens, Brendon Aubrey,
Cornyn Williams, Tyler Smith for the five to make it.
Streakings for CD Lamb with four he had four straight.
Kamante Chupin had made it a couple of years in

(01:48):
a row, didn't make it this year. We'll see if
other guys are added, though, But good for Dak and
obviously George Pickens, Brendon Aubrey. You know, he didn't have
the he didn't have the most and the highest percentage
of field goal makes, but I think everyone kind of
knows the weapon that he is and and just how
good he's been all your Quentin Williams, that's pretty impressive

(02:08):
too for him, four straight for him, three for the Jets,
and now trade comes over here and then talk about
this for Tyler Smith, he's had He's just the third
guard in the NFL. History to have three Pro Bowls
under the age of twenty four or younger. So, uh wow,
what a great player. And we'll see where he ends
up playing. He's gonna be tackled for the rest of

(02:31):
the season, but made it as a guard. All right,
Let's go to the phone lines. Davion and Illinois. Is up, Davion?
What's up?

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Boy?

Speaker 3 (02:39):
What do my boy?

Speaker 5 (02:40):
What a dude?

Speaker 4 (02:41):
You doing? Man?

Speaker 5 (02:43):
Hey?

Speaker 3 (02:43):
You doing well?

Speaker 5 (02:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Man, A couple of things regulations to the guy that
made the Pro Bowl? Happy for him, could have been more.
We've had a better season. But I mean, if I
got it, no big deal. I guess man. Honestly, I
was after I got the college that I wanted to
call it back, but I was like, no, I ain't
gonna do that. So the Trayvon Digs thing, Man, I

(03:10):
just at this at this point, I'm kind of over him.
I mean that Press company the en the other day
was kind of that was real bad. I mean, he
came in talking about some cover too, like we don't
know what cover.

Speaker 6 (03:24):
Two he is.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
When you're supposed to squeeze it and help your safety
out so you don't give a walk in touchdown to
a slight receiver. I just don't understand how Weedon he
was brung him back, because I think he's just been
basically toxic since the summer and he just ain't never
gotten no better. But uh, it's just crazy how we

(03:49):
got we got to this point with him where he's
still here and we I don't know, It's just it's crazy.
That's just one of the things that annoying me yesterday. Secondly,
because I know it's too we gotta be quick. Secondly,
this this is my plea to the front office.

Speaker 5 (04:09):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
I know they probably they probably listened to it. They
probably not, but plead the front office and cabour nation,
can we stop talking about the future dollars cap dollars.
Can we stop worrying about Dak's contract because he's paid now.
It's no big deal. We're gonna figure it out, you
do it. Can we just get Dak of defense? Can

(04:31):
we please get Dak a defense. If you get Dak
a defense, were going to the Super Bowl. I'll bleeve
that for the bottom of my heart. If we get
him the defense we would get, we would give what
everybody want to see. With that, all right, I'm out.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
Yeah, Well that costs money to you know, and that's
I mean, it's easy to say that. You know, you
paid all the money for the offense, and now you
got to get him a defense. I mean, you're gonna
have to draft well, there's no doubt about it. You
have to draft well and and and get some of
these picks to hit. But also, you know, or if

(05:07):
you're not gonna do it just like that, I mean,
I think we saw a little bit of a shift
last year from from the Cowboys making a lot of
trade that made more trades than they they've made him
several years. So you know, well, well, well I think
it's gotta be a good combination. But but I'm with
you on that defense is going to have to help them.
But but to do that, you know, they have to

(05:27):
get creative and how they bring these guys in here
that they got to be the right fit. I think
it starts with what happens with the coordinator. And if
it's going to be the same coordinator, then it's got
to be guys that that fit better. And uh, you know,
he reflues brought some guys over linebacker wise, and that
didn't work. So we'll see if there's a new coordinator

(05:48):
or if so, there's gonna be more changes that are
made on defense. All right, let's go to Irene in
fallse Church, Virginia.

Speaker 7 (05:55):
Hey, good morning. Why why don't piggyback off? Rob's called
that value? There's the last couple of weeks. So like,
theoretically this sounds good, but you know, an experiment like
Ryan flinoy As doing well without Pickens around means you'd
have to sit, you'd have to play Back, you couldn't
play Milton, and you have to put Pickens on the bench.
So you know, that was more complicated. And you want

(06:17):
to see if Pickens and Back continue their chemistry even
when the games don't matter, which they proved I think
last week. But there are some positions you could do this,
Like for me, I'd like to see clown and get
more snaps because we need to know if we want
to resign him in the off season and not wait,
you know, fill mid season basically. So for for you,
I'd love to hear what player or position could kind

(06:38):
of work in this experimental mode without being something completely
must And thank you for you to you and Chris,
and Merry Christmas to everybody in storyline.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
Fam thank you, Iren appreciate that, you know, And and
and if you I think what what she's saying is
makes you know, I'm sorry. A lot of sense is
that if you're gonna you want to say you want
to experiment things, but but you have to do it
in a real experimental fashion. And and going up against
a Washington team, I mean, because that's the thing, like

(07:08):
who who are they going to face? So yeah, I mean,
you can you say all I want to see I
want to see Milton, but you know, are you really
going to get to really see him? You know, he's
gonna go out there and play just like he did
kind of in the preseason. So I'm fine. That's why
I like still playing Dak. And you know Dak Dak
gets up there and says the things that he says

(07:30):
about not cheating the game and things like that, Well,
you know, I then then I think he just needs
I think he still needs to play now if he's
not healthy. Though, if anything happens to any of these
players as far as like getting banged up or whatever,
we'll you know, obviously take him out. But you might
see a situation too where you know, I will tell

(07:50):
a lot if will Greer is elevated. I think if
he's elevated to the game, then that that probably shows
just how much, uh, you're gonna see Dak inside of
these But who else could could get some some reps?
You know that the guys are already starting. I'd like to
see a little more Schamar James. I want to. I
want to see him out there and uh, you know,

(08:12):
maybe maybe a little bit more from Brevin span Ford
from a starting standpoint, or or at least play him
a lot more. He's a guy that I think you
you really want to evaluate and see. I don't know
what this future holds for schoon Maker. He'll probably be here,
be fine, but I think span Ford gives you a
little bit more. I'd like to see him, uh in
an expanded role. All right, let's go to let's go

(08:36):
to Brian and Kansas City.

Speaker 8 (08:39):
Hey, good morning, Nick.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
How you doing.

Speaker 8 (08:43):
I'm all right, man, Merry Christmas, you too, Thank you. Hey,
you know I just wondered this. We've seen the Trayvon
Diggs thing just drag han for you know, since training camp.
You know, they came on and said, hey, you know,
he's not doing what we want him to do. I'm
just curious. Do you think the decision on eber Flus

(09:04):
has anything to do with whether we keep him or
is he just just so sideways with the organization that
there's just, you know, virtually no champ. I'll hang up
and take that one offline, man, Thank you.

Speaker 4 (09:16):
Yeah, that's a good question, Thank you, Brian. You know,
I don't think they're tied together. Might be a situation
where you get a new coordinator in and he might
have a completely different opinion about Diggs or vice versa,
and it might be a situation that works better. But
I think as it stands right now, i'd be surprised.

(09:38):
I this is a tough one. I think I'd be
more surprised if Diggs was back than ebra Flus. And
actually that's not really that hard to say. I mean, yeah,
I'd be more surprised if Diggs is back than Flus.
I mean, they both may be gone, but I don't
really that's a good question. I don't think that they're

(09:58):
tied together, though. If Diggs is back, you know, it
might be a situation, like I said, a new coordinator
that came in, and you know, it would it would
might be a situation where all right, this this is
a good relationship for him, but I just think so
much has happened, and I think what shot he's trying
to do and change culture and all that. I think

(10:20):
they would probably want to move on from him. That's
what I would think. We'll see again. I've I've been
wrong before about this guy and the situation, and there's
a lot more we don't really know. All right, let's
go to break on Cowboys storyline. I'll be right back after.

Speaker 4 (12:23):
All Right, welcome back to Cowboys storyline presented by Gillette.
Got more phone calls? Let's go right, after it. Let's
go Casey Joe. He's in Kansas City. What's up.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
Good morning, Nick.

Speaker 4 (12:31):
Merry Christmas to you you too.

Speaker 12 (12:34):
Yes, sir, I'm glad you got to spend some time
with your daughter the other day. That's awesome, thank you, Yes, sir,
it's always good with family. Hey, I think that the
first round pick probably should be used on a tackle
just because it's where we're hurting, and of course the linebacker.
I don't know, that's kind of my thought process. Obviously,
they're going to need a linebacker that they can work,

(12:56):
they can figure they're they've got enough on the corners,
or if we're going to go after corner, at least
get one. We know it's really good, not just take
a gamble on it.

Speaker 4 (13:05):
Yeah, you mean like in the free free agency.

Speaker 12 (13:08):
Or yeah, somebody that's really good in free agency, Like
we've got Quinn Williams. You know, I mean, that's got.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
Something really good that's not free agency. You know that
that was a trade, you know what I mean. I mean,
that's the difference. You gave up a first round pick
for him free agency. If a guy's out there in
free agency that he may not be very good, he
might be pretty good, but he might not be very good.
Or if he was really good, I mean, his team
would probably want to keep him. Uh you know how
that goes. But you know, corner, I think corner has

(13:36):
got to be addressed in the offseason, and that could
be one of your first round picks.

Speaker 13 (13:41):
Okay, I think I.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
Mean that's you know, Revel. I think it's going to be. Okay,
Bland is still Bland. He's got to be in the
right scheme, and he might need some help around him.
So yeah, I think cornerbacks definitely one of your higher needs.
And and and it might be one that you have
to draft.

Speaker 12 (13:58):
That's true, you know, might be. But I'd still like
to get a tackle, you know, out of one of
the first round picks, just because you know, obviously we're
having major issues on the line.

Speaker 4 (14:07):
Yeah, you know.

Speaker 12 (14:08):
Yeah, Well wait, Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
You too, Thanks, Casey, Joe.

Speaker 5 (14:14):
You know the.

Speaker 4 (14:16):
You know, Tyler Smith's going to finish the year at
left tackle. We'll see if this is a permanent move
or not. They say it's not, but you never know.
I mean, it could be. It's easier to find a
guard than it is a tackle. And if he can
be that, you know, I'm fine with if he can
be that. You know, I think they got to figure
out the contract situation that they paid him really hefty

(14:40):
to be a guard. I think there were some some
clauses in there. I know there was a reason why
that that thing stalled and the negotiations stalled right after
Tyler goiiton got hurt in training camp because I think
Tyler's camp they knew, oh, hey, don't try to move
me to to tackle after we get this deal done.
So I think there's part of the there's some provisions

(15:00):
in the contract there if that if that were to happen,
and Tyler Smith even alluded to that about you know,
I know what I'm worth and stuff like that. So
we'll see how it goes. You know, even if if
he does move to tackle, then you probably need a guard.
You don't have to necessarily get one in the first round,
but you could. We've seen Tyler Booker drafted and we
see what what's happening there. I mean, they have a

(15:21):
chance to have a really really good offensive line with
with some young players. All right, let's go to Dylan Northport,
Florida and Merry Christmas.

Speaker 13 (15:29):
To you and Chris and all the storyliners out there.
Thank you. I'm seeing I haven't been to listen to this,
so I don't know what's been talked about, but I'm
seeing a lot of people kind of blaming the offense
for losing some of these games. And that is like,
I'm not defending the offense because they're not without flaws,
but you know, the root of everything that ails this
team is the defense. They're they're basically playing from like
a negative game script wins zero zero. It's like, if

(15:51):
you don't go score a touchdown every drive while you're
going to be down, you take a field goal, you're
going to be down four points. You know what I mean?
Every mistake they make is like measurable one points almost.
You don't get the fourth and one while Chargers go
score touchdown, big get touch on thing off the board,
field goal, charge go store a touchdown.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
Right right now? You're right, you can't.

Speaker 13 (16:10):
You can't call a game that way. You can't play
a game that we has an offense. It's too much
pressure and stress, and uh, that's just what it's been
this whole season. It's not anything new, but you know
that is I don't get the US the blame, not
that they're blameless, like I said, but I don't get
allowed to blame. The offense kind of gets for some
of the winners and the Chargers is one last thing.
You know, Chargers had the ball two thirds of the
third quarter, like as a Cowboys offense or second half.

(16:30):
I mean, like as an offense and you don't have
the ball, Like what are you supposed to do?

Speaker 4 (16:34):
Right?

Speaker 14 (16:34):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (16:35):
Right?

Speaker 13 (16:36):
But Christmas, and I'll talk to you guys.

Speaker 4 (16:39):
You to thank you. You know, that's why I wrote
my article that you know, this defense has become bend
and break. It's a bend and break defense, and that's
that's not good, especially when you go up against a
team like like the Chargers, who kept the ball the
entire time then scored. You know, I mean, it's one
thing if you're not gonna get stops. But you know,

(17:00):
I go back to that Chicago game in Week three
and that game right there. You know, it was that
drive in the third quarter where I think the Bears
got five third down conversions and then on fourth down
they scored a touchdown and it was a ten minute drive.
And I mean, you just ate up the entire game.

(17:21):
Cowboys had shot to come back, but they couldn't get
off the field. And not only that, but then the
Bears just kept moving, kept moving and moving, and then scored.
That was bend and break, and that broke the whole game.
And so you know that. And the Chargers did some
of that in the game the other day, and I
think it's just an example of that. Yeah, I mean,
you're not getting stops, you ended up scoring giving a

(17:45):
touchdown anyways, and the best part of your team, your offense,
is off the field, so you know that. You're right, Dylan,
everything roots back to the defense. All right, let's go
to Mike in Birmingham, England. How you doing, man?

Speaker 14 (18:00):
I'm good, Thank you?

Speaker 3 (18:01):
How are you?

Speaker 4 (18:02):
That's good? What's up?

Speaker 14 (18:04):
Yeah, it sounds like this little break from storyline has
come at the right time for your voice. But well
done powering through. So I've just caught the end of
your comments there from a conversation with Dylan, and on
a similar topic, I really really hate to be talking
about a fellows human being and their job, because our job,
whether we earn thirty grand or sixty million, is important

(18:25):
to us. He's got a go, Nick, and it's taken
me a while to get there. That for the Chargers
offense the other day, that was a training exercise. It
was just so easy for them. And the thing is,
I don't know if you can say any different, but
I'm just not seeing any improvement, and that's what I
would want to see. I know that he was dealt

(18:47):
a difficult hand at the start of the year when
Mike has suddenly left, But I mean, I know that
in the middle of the season we had that little
patch of three games and it looked like we were
getting somewhere. But it's just back to square one and
I really can't see how the position is tenable. But
on a cheerier note, so it's funny saying this now

(19:08):
after all that, but Merry Christmas to you, Nick, to
your family and to all the listeners, and thank you
for everything you do. I'll be back in twenty twenty
six to talk to you some more.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
All right, Thank you, Mike, appreciate that. Merry Christmas to
you overseas, you know, And you're right, I mean, this
time of year, it's hard to say, oh, this guy
you know needs to go or whatever, but they you know,
it's a performance business, it is, and they and their
their defenses is one of the worst in the league.
And yeah, they traded Micah right before the season, but

(19:40):
you know, they did get Quinn Williams, and I like
you said, they just haven't made any improvement. They didn't improve.
They need to, They need to show some of that,
and you just never did. And then nobody seems to
understand what's happening, and they're not on the same page individually.

(20:02):
They didn't get really a lot better. I think conn
Williams makes the Pro Bowl mostly out of reputation and
also kind of what he did with the with the Jets.
But I mean, they're just nobody on the defense that
really had a good year. So and when you when
you add it all up, there's a lot of teams

(20:24):
that don't have Mike and Parsons, you know what I mean,
there's a lot of defense do I mean and look
at look at what the Vikings do. You know that
they don't have a lot of big name players, but
they they figure it out and they're on the same
page with the scheme. It just never happened like that
with the Cowboys. All right, let's take another break here
on Cowboys storyline. We'll be right back after this.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
All right, Cowboys fans, this one's for you.

Speaker 15 (20:46):

To Cowboys storyline presented by Gillette, The official shave of
the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 4 (21:56):
All right, welcome back to Cowboys storyline presented by Gillette.
Just a few more minutes. Well, we got about thirty minutes.
We got half the show. You guys did a good
job in the first two segments, kind of going in
and out. We'll see what we can talk about here
at the end. This is our final show of the
week and before Christmas. Obviously, we'll leave Wednesday. Tomorrow, we

(22:19):
will leave for Washington, be there for the game Thursday,
be back Friday, no shows. Friday, will resume again on Monday.
Should be a well, no, it won't be a full
week because we have New Year's as well. Not sure
exactly that schedule. But first things first, we'll just wrap
up this week. We got more callers on the line,

(22:39):
So let's go Rick in Webster, Massachusetts. Rick, what's up, hey, Nick?

Speaker 17 (22:44):
Call you doing?

Speaker 4 (22:44):
I'm good, Thank you.

Speaker 17 (22:46):
Merry Christmas, and put the Elector game for us. Scores
they'll be a predicable I'm gonna go with Kybby's twenty
eight and Commanders twenty okay, but I agree with a
lot other people of me. You know Tyla Schmis wants
to play left tackle for the rest of the year.

Speaker 4 (23:07):
That's fine.

Speaker 17 (23:08):
I think he's a better guard. He's more elite that guard,
has better things to do with guard than he's just
a good tackle. So I'd rather have him in the
middle to help bolster with the other two we have
there and then look for a tackle, whether in free
agency or the draft or whatever.

Speaker 5 (23:26):
Well.

Speaker 17 (23:26):
As far as the needs for me, I think the
number on plority would be a getting a defensive end
with the first pick, and then go with linebacker and
then look at the cornerback in safety after that with
a lot of the tackle a lot. Happy holidays for

(23:46):
everybody and storyliners group and talk to you all later.

Speaker 4 (23:51):
Thank you, appreciate that. Make Chris to you Rick, you know,
I like what you're saying, and I'm with you about
eighty percent on the on the Tyler Smith like he's
a leade at guard. He's a good tackle. That's what
we've seen. Remember, sorry, guys, Remember he's played guard for

(24:11):
his his fourth, fourth year, third year, second year, he
played tackle mostly his rookie year. Who's to say if
it wouldn't flipped, we wouldn't have seen the same, you
know what I mean, the issues that we saw at tackle.
He had a lot of penalties his rookie year. Is

(24:31):
it because he's not that special at tackle? Or is
it because he's a rookie that year, you know what
I mean? So what we we don't really know that
we don't know just yet if if you know, maybe
he would be just as good at tackle, and I'm open,
I'm open minded to that. I I think body type

(24:51):
wise and just the punch and all that, just the
way he's built, he seems like he would be way
better at guard. But you know, if he's Larry Allen,
he's Larry Allen. You know Larry Allen when it's a tackle,
and it was good, and I mean really good. He
was an All Pro at tackle as well. He did
go back to guard, and you know, I don't know

(25:13):
if that's a preference for him or you know, because
as you get older, these pass rushers are still going
to get faster and faster, So maybe that was kind
of why Zach Martin always wanted to stay at guard.
So I'm with you there. I think he's probably a
better guard, but if he can do it, if he
wants to do it, if he feels compensated, you know,
fairly for being that kind of tackle, well, then you know,

(25:37):
and that's another thing too, if he's not, Like if
he's just a good tackle, and what are you paying
for you know what? I mean, you paid for an
elite guard too. I think a lot of people are
looking at it like, oh, the cowboys are trying to
sneak one past Tyler Smith. Well what if Tyler Smith's
just a good guard, I mean, just a good tackle
and they're paying him really good money for it. So

(25:58):
it's got to work out. I think it will. I
think he's the toughest player on the team. I think
he's the smartest player on the team. And uh, you know,
whatever it works, then then you know that you kind
of go accordingly. But it's it's still it's a good
discussion here, all right, j r. Avandel Arizona's next morning,
Nick good.

Speaker 5 (26:19):
You oh hanging in there, hanging in there. I just
off what you were just saying. Tyler Smith is a guard.
I want to see him back at guard. I want
to see that trio of Smith beat and Booker beat
up people for the next ten years. I like him
stay at guard.

Speaker 4 (26:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (26:39):
Uh, Jaydon Blue. I'm just curious. I listened to Shot
he talked about why he's not playing, and I just
got to wonder what did he do or not do
just to get pretty much benched the whole season. I mean,
if you if you wanted to have a explosive young
player and never play him, never thinking make him active,

(26:59):
and you should just kept deuce of on because that's
kind of what you've done with James. But I just
like to see the guy play. I think he should
get an opportunity. And last thing about I know he's
kind of kicking him ound about the draft doubts me
so much on defense. I just I thought they did
a good job last year and just taking the best
players available, not to reaching and drafting for need, and

(27:23):
I just I want to see them do that again
because they do have so many needs on defense. Yeah,
that's all I got. Merry Christmas to you, Chris, all
the storylineers, everybody be safe, godless and go cowboy.

Speaker 4 (27:35):
All right, thanks so much, there, same do you. Here's
what I was going to say right after that previous call,
and I kind of alludes to what JR. Is talking
about with draft and all that. Well, first before I
get to that the the Jayden Blue. I mean, I mean,
Shoddy has said it all year. I mean, what these
young players have to do to get on the field.

(27:57):
And uh, and and again it's it's about practice. It's
it's about understanding your assignments. It's about being versatile to
to play multiple spots. You're the backup running back, so
the backup running back needs to play some special teams.
And it just he just wasn't a better option for them,
you know, over Malik Davis. And that's you know, that's

(28:20):
that's on Jaden Blue, you know, and a lot of
the things that we talked about or that you know
a lot of the discussions about this guy and maybe
at Texas, you know, maturity issues were it was a
question drive, work, ethic, passion. You know, he's a really
fast player, but I mean you got to, you know,
you got to do some things to to kind of

(28:41):
get on the field. And and it worked some in college,
but he just doesn't seem like he's taken that step
just yet. And you know, I'm sure they want to
see him, but uh, he's got to want it as well.
And I again, I'm just kind of throwing that these
out there, these generic statements because we don't know all
the details, but these are some of the things that

(29:03):
we know that plague young players and and shot. He
has sort of talked about that with Jaydon Blues. So
I don't know all all the details. We're not going
to know that, but you know know this, they wanted
him to play. You know, I'd like to see him
in the last two games if if it works for him.
Another thing about the defense I was going to say

(29:24):
is what you know, if you get a new coordinator
in here, are you sure you don't have a three
four scheme? You sure you don't have the players for that.
It's gonna depend on what they do with your three
defensive tackles. Do they keep all of them? And if
they do, you know, as Kenny clark and knows, in

(29:44):
a three four, could he be in the nose? Could
could you have Coinnan Williams and and o size your
defensive ends in which are pretty much interior players there?
Could you you know is overshown and and as a
right outside linebackers in a three four, still don't have
really your linebackers there. I don't know. I think that

(30:07):
would just be a question I don't know if if
you're gonna if you're going to get the best out
of Osa and Quinnen from those defensive end positions. It's
just something to throw out because you do look at
over shown and Isaku and think they they could maybe
be those outside rushers there. But there's a lot of
a lot of questions here. All right, Brandon and Fresno, California.

Speaker 5 (30:28):
What's up?

Speaker 18 (30:29):
Merry Christmas?

Speaker 4 (30:30):
Man you too?

Speaker 18 (30:33):
Just uh, I just wanted to take on on this defense,
but like on this coaching staff, like I just feel like, man,
we get these coaches like kell them Moore goes and
wins the Super Bowl with Philly al Harriet is like
what he's doing over there in Chicago, Like it just
kind of makes me mad that we get rid of
these coaches and then we get this and we're not

(30:54):
doing anything. On Sunday I've seen I think it was
like number twenty seven. It came on a belize that
completely missed the tackling they like you see Kenneth Murray
just missing bowls. It's just I think it has to
do with coaching, because you go back a couple of
years ago, we were on it. I mean, we were
we were killing it on defense. Yeah, our run defense
wasn't good. But I think with like those missing leaders

(31:17):
like Jordan Lewis and Mark Lawrence, like that that killed us.
I think that just got hurt us really bad. And
it's just like it brought Digs down, losing Micah and
everything like that.

Speaker 4 (31:28):
Wait, is that the coaches or is it the Is
it the players? I think you said it was the coaches,
but then now it's it's the players that that they lost.

Speaker 18 (31:37):
I think it's the coaches, though, I think it's I
think it's I think it's the coaches. I think I
was coming in just just doesn't fit with these players.

Speaker 4 (31:44):
Okay, Yeah, I mean that's fair. I mean, yeah, that's
not you're you're probably not not wrong with that. I mean,
you know, I mean Chicago, I mean that is doing well.
I mean, I don't know if they're doing well because
of Al Harris, but I mean some of those secondary
guys are, you know, playing. I mean, all I'm saying
is is that you know, if if you know Kellen Moore,

(32:06):
he went to Philly, you know, and why didn't he
coach that way here? You know what I mean? Why
didn't Al Harris coach that way here, and you could
argue that they did because you know, Al Harris, the
best years of Diggs, the best year of Deron Blandon,
definitely the best year of now Seawn Ryder under Al Harris.

Speaker 18 (32:23):
Yeah exactly. Yeah, So that's that's what're just kind of
said to me. It's like, we have these good coaches
and then we just let him go and then it's
just it just kind of hurt. It hurts the team
and everything like that. And then my last week just
just a funny one. But if Rivers gonna come back,
let's let's bring Romo back for the last two games.

Speaker 4 (32:42):
He probably could. Yeah, uh, that would be that would
be interesting. Yeah, you know, Rivers, he looks older, but
he's getting it done. He's getting it done. I mean,
I mean respect for him and and and what what
he's doing there. I don't think. I don't think Tony.
I don't think Tony ever wanted to come back. You know,

(33:03):
he's got it too good, you know, with with what
he's doing. I don't know. I mean, you know, Philip
Rivers at ten kids, hear the way he is grand
it's a grandfather, like has that ever happened in the
league before. But but you know, he's got ten kids.
I mean, I don't. I mean, I got two in

(33:24):
the house and I'm ready to get get to work, too,
so I could I can understand maybe what he's what
he's doing there, all right, Sergeants Sue and fort Worth,
what's up at He's.

Speaker 5 (33:33):
How you doing? Nick?

Speaker 4 (33:34):
Good?

Speaker 5 (33:34):
You?

Speaker 19 (33:35):
I'm doing pretty good?

Speaker 5 (33:36):
Man.

Speaker 19 (33:36):
Yeah, Hey, I just old man Rivers.

Speaker 5 (33:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 19 (33:39):
Man, they ten kids.

Speaker 20 (33:41):
I guess it.

Speaker 19 (33:42):
Kind of like I wasn't planning on saying this, but
I guess I will now. I got two and a half.
I guess it's just a thing for me to announce
when my wife is pregnant, so we're expecting. So I
got two and a half. And I definitely get it. Man,
you got ten kids, you got to get up there.
You got to hustle.

Speaker 16 (33:54):
Man.

Speaker 19 (33:55):
So he appreciated man abuly man, But but no, I
wanted to I wanted to call him man. Just it's
kind of tough.

Speaker 5 (34:04):
You know.

Speaker 19 (34:05):
Again, I always like to be the positive dude and stuff,
but it's just hard, man. It's hard when when these
games are you know, seemingly meaningless, feeling me and of
course you could always trying things that you're rooting for
and players in certain positions, and I guess that's what
I'm gonna talk about. I mean, some of them have
been talked about, like Brevn span Ford. I want to
see him more rebel. I want to see him continue
to get better. I want to see Phil Maffa man.

(34:25):
I mean, I liked what I saw in preseason. I
thought he was pretty good. I mean, his his window
opened up, so I'm hoping that he can get in
and Josh Butler as well. I mean to me, I'm honestly,
if I'm being blatantly honest and there's nothing against him,
I'm just not like, I don't get what the excitement
is about him coming back and him being Butler Island
or whatever. I just you know, but whatever, Let's see

(34:46):
him play. You know, this is a moment, this is
the time to do it. My biggest one though, and
I know this might be a trigger for some people,
but is Mingo And we complained pretty much half the season, Nick,
And I know that you remember about Tober and how
he was sort of a progress stopper for other wide receivers.
I think we're seeing that now with Ryan Flinoy and
how he's flourished. And you know, now Flinoy might not go,

(35:09):
so Mingo, this is your time, brothers, like get in there,
do what you can do, make it, make it to
where we didn't waste, you know, a trade on you,
you know what I mean. So this is his opportunity.
I hope he goes out there.

Speaker 20 (35:20):
And does something.

Speaker 19 (35:21):
And if he doesn't, at least now we'll know. Last
thing before I go. We do have a spaces tonight.
Usually it's on Thursday, so we're going to have one tonight.
Davian forgot to mention it. Usually he's the guy who
does it, but I wanted to mention it. So if
you guys wanted to swing by, feel free, Nick, Chris
and all the storyliners. Man, you guys have a very
merry Christmas.

Speaker 4 (35:37):
All right, all right, have great ever appreciate it. You
know what, if I had a little bit more voice,
I might I might think about it, but maybe join
you guys. I always, I always, it's always in the
in the plans to do it, and then I don't
always make it. It's fun though, it's fun to hear
from you guys, and also the guys that don't get

(35:58):
to call that much, are really at all, But then
you get on there and it's like they're they're a
big part of the show, you know, And that's always
cool to be able to kind of hear. And that's
kind of the first time I'd ever heard from Dave
you on was just from the spaces and he never
had gotten a chance to call. And now he calls
a lot, which is cool. All right, let's go to

(36:21):
Eric in North Carolina.

Speaker 20 (36:23):
Eric, Hey, Nick, how's are going today?

Speaker 4 (36:26):
Man? Has it been a little bit Huh?

Speaker 20 (36:28):
Yeah, I know, it's been so long I would wondering
if you would even know who in the world I was.

Speaker 5 (36:34):
No.

Speaker 4 (36:34):
I know because I keep track of the calls and
on this big spreadsheet, and I keep track of the
all storyline team and then guys that like haven't called
from that, from previous teams, and I'm like, man, all
these people are okay, you know, I kind of have
I kind of have like bad thoughts a little bit,
you know, and I'm like, well, you know, well, anyways, man,

(36:57):
good But.

Speaker 20 (36:58):
No, I've actually tried many times. I just haven't been
able to get through and uh, and but that's a
credit to you and Chris and uh and Derek, you know,
for the popularity of the show. But uh, but I
do listen. I do listen. And but I was just
thinking in this in this disappointing twenty twenty five season,
I was I was searching for, you know, like like

(37:22):
positive thoughts. And uh, I do have to give the
Cowboys and uh Will McLay and Jerry and Steven as
much as people like to, uh you know bash them,
uh big credit really for drafting Ryan Flinnoy Yeah, uh
in the seventh round. And to have a wide receiver
that has multiple one hundred yards games who's drafted in

(37:46):
the seventh that's a good job.

Speaker 4 (37:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 20 (37:51):
And uh but my other thought is is I hope
to get to see a corner Josh Butler because I
thought he did have uh some some skill that I
saw last year. He seemed to be able to stay
with his man before he hurt his knee. I believe
it was. And uh and my last thought, I do

(38:14):
like George Pickens. He is really really talented and skilled.
But my fault is in the off season is to
uh franchise tagging but make it non exclusive. That the
way you could at least shop him just to see

(38:34):
what he's worth. As great of a season as he
as he's had. Everyone knows he's gonna be extremely expensive
and it'll probably be really tough to build a good
defense if we sign him. But if we could get
a first for him, I'll bet you we could find
like a good SEC wide receiver that would make a

(38:57):
great number two with like a late first or something
like that.

Speaker 4 (39:02):
Yeah, I mean, that's that's kind of that's kind of
the plan I would think. And thank thanks for the call, Eric,
Really good to hear from you. Thanks for calling. Yeah,
you too, and talking about Pickens. I mean, I think
that's that's the best opportunity to get the most value

(39:23):
for him. As far as without committing to you know,
like so committing these this long term deal. I still
think that the jury's out on him as far as
is he is he the guy that you want to
pay that much money to and then look at some
of the other players that they've that they've paid and
you know, some of the issues that we we see
with Pickens, and and that's with the you know, the

(39:46):
money that he's making right now, he's not making a ton.
He still gets fined a lot for being late and
missing buses and missing meetings and things like that from
from what we've heard. And you know what happens when
you get a lot more money. You know, then what
what kind of then how tough is it going to
be to kind of corral him and all that. So

(40:06):
that's the question, I think franchising him, whether he may
not like that, it's still it's going to be a
really big number the Cowboys have to put under their cap.
But you know, you you do shop it and see.
I mean, if somebody wants to sign them to a
big deal, I don't think that they will. So he
probably will play on the tag and if he doesn't
play on the tag, then you you know, you get

(40:28):
him on him on a cheaper deal. I just don't
think he's I don't think he's a thirty million dollars
a year guy. I mean, I think he's had a
really good season, but I mean a part of that
is having the quarterback that he does, and also CD
on the other side, I think they both need to
understand that. So well, we'll see, we'll see what happens there.
But I do think that he's going to be back,

(40:49):
and you know, if somebody wants to sign him to
an offer sheet. After you do a franchise tag and
it kind of you know, it blows your away, then
then then you consider it. But I think you know,
as it stands right now, I think you'll be back
and probably on the tag. All right, let's go to
Mason in Minnesota.

Speaker 1 (41:08):
Hello.

Speaker 3 (41:09):
I got two questions.

Speaker 4 (41:10):
I'll make it quick.

Speaker 6 (41:12):
One, do you feel I feel that the move for
Williams and that that this all was for twenty twenty
six next year due to the situation we were at.
And then my second question is if we were able,
if they would have seen forehead with Parsons, what do

(41:34):
you think they would have got before the draft?

Speaker 4 (41:37):
I'd just say that, oh, if they would have traded
him beforehand? Is that what you're asking? If they would
have traded out for the draft, what do you get
for him?

Speaker 6 (41:46):
Well, you think we would have got instead of right
before the season.

Speaker 4 (41:50):
You know, you probably get almost the same. It's just
that those two picks get moved up, probably so you
you'd get Green Bay pick that year, I mean during
the draft and then this next one coming up. That's
what I would imagine it would be something like. And
then still Kenny Clark and and all that. I would

(42:12):
probably just probably the same. It's just that you you
you would have a pick that you would draft, and
then you know, and you know what, to be really honest,
you probably would have had just another second round pick
because I bet you they draft Where did Green Bay
even pick? I don't remember. I would say, was it late?
Because they made the play you probably you're not gonna

(42:35):
want to hear this. They were. They would probably draft
as Iraku. Seriously, That's that's probably what they would have done,
is drafting him. Now. I can't remember who who was
up there defensive end wise when when they got Booker.
You know, but I don't think it was a really
strong draft class. You still you still my draft Booker,
and you have a late first round pick, you take

(42:56):
Azraku because they were shocked that Ezraku was still around
in the second round, so you know, that's probably what happens,
and then you get another second round pick. So I
kind of like it if that's the case. I kind
of like the way it played out.

Speaker 3 (43:10):
Now, Yeah yeah, all right, yeah, thank you, all.

Speaker 4 (43:15):
Right, Mason, have a good one. I think we're done
for calls right now. Chris we have any calls or
we're good. No call, no calls. Well let's go to
break one more time on cowboys throwing on me right
back after this.

The Cowboys Storyline presented by Gillette, the official shape of
the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 4 (44:39):
All right, welcome back to Cowboys storyline. Just got just
a minute or so here to wrap up this show.
It's it's been a good one. You guys are very informative,
thinking about next next season, thinking about here, that this game,
coming up with what it means to go, you know,
face Washington and the Giants and think, you know, you
want to win the game, and I think they do.

(45:01):
I think fans would to win the game. I mean,
I'm you know, I say it all the time. You
never you never tell fans how to fan. And I
always just look at these, you know, losing games and
getting a better draft pick. I always just look at
that as the you know, the result. Well, at least
this happened, you know that. That's kind of the way
I take it. I'm you know, when I watch my

(45:21):
team play, whether it be my college team or whatever,
you know, I always want them to win. You know,
I just I'm just sorry, that's just the way it is.
I'm gonna I want them to win. If I go
out there and you know, and watch them play. I
want them to win. If it doesn't, then you know,
here's here's the good part about it. At least these
this happens. And I think that's kind of what the
Cowboys are going to do. I think that they're going
to try to finish this thing strong. If Dack's out there,

(45:42):
then the most of the team's going to be out there,
and you know, Christmas Day everyone's going to be watching.
We'll be there, and I think I was going to
go there and try to get a win. I really
do think that they want to be uh eight, eight
and one and and and win these last two games
and get little momentum going into the season. All Right,
been a great show. Appreciate it. Merry Christmas to everyone

(46:02):
for Chris being I'm Nick Eatman. We'll see you next
time on Cowboys Storyline.
