If the Cowboys can get the W in Carolina this week it would be like getting a pair of wins as the callers were certainly enjoying seeing Philly’s loss and what that could mean for this season.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
He is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
This is Cowboys Storyline, presented by Gillette, the official shave
of the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Here's Nick Eatman, Good morning, Welcome to Cowboys Storyline. Friday,
October the tenth last show of the week, Cowboys tacking
on the Panthers. We'll go to Carolina tomorrow for the
third straight year.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Yay.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
A lot of good times in Carolina all the time.
Love their place, love their stadium, love their security team,
everything that comes with it in Carolina. But usually there's
a win and it's like a home game, so that's
always a fun time. We'll see if the Cowboys can
get to three to two and one. Let's hear from

(00:59):
you guys, even let's go to the phone lines. Is
get started. Dylan in Northport, Florida.

Speaker 4 (01:06):
What's up, Hey, Nick?

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Good morning?

Speaker 4 (01:08):
How you doing good?

Speaker 1 (01:09):
How are you?

Speaker 3 (01:10):
I'm good man. You know this week listening to the show,
a lot of emotions, a lot of people calling in,
and I'm just happy to be part of this community.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Man.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Just for anybody listening out there, I know we all
talk on Twitter and show and stuff, and anybody ever
needs to just bounced anything off. Anybody just needs listening here.
Manuel already know, but just you know, to reach out
to me. And there's a lot of us that way too,
Irene and David, and there's a lot of really good
people out there in their community. So just to just
want throw that out there and keep that in mind.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Of course.

Speaker 5 (01:40):
Yeah, as far.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
As football goes this week, first off party gets on
the stadium, Good luck to you there with their security.
Carolina's front, their their actual interior defensive line is pretty good,
but their linebackers aren't and their secondary is not so good.
So offensively, hopefully Dallas can Keepnis do whatever they want
to do, you know, offensively defensively, as long as they
went first and second down and stuff to run on

(02:03):
those down Brush shown is very bad on Thursday and
he's like almost less than fifty accuracy rating on third down,
So just get the third down, keep him at a
third and short and they'll be just fine. Score prediction
for me is going to be thirty four to twenty Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
All right, thank you, Dylan. Yeah, I mean, and we've
heard this about you know, this defensive line is really
good the other parts of their game not so good.
I mean, I mean, think about what you've heard this
year in Philadelphia to change right right early in the
game when Jalen Carter left. But you know, the Giants,

(02:37):
that's what they have. You know, they have a great
path rusher on The Cowboys put up thirty seven and
then forty. You know the Packers obviously with Micah coming
back in and what they've done, and they had a
great defensive line, and you know, the Cowboys put up
thirty seven and then forty, and then the same with
the Jets. You know, those those are the guys up front.

(03:00):
You know that you expected big things from Quinn Williams McDonald.
You know the path rusher from Iowa State. Cowways put
up thirty seven. So it's not the first time we've
seen teams like this, and the Cowboys have done a
really nice job. Obviously, I think Dak's rolling right now
and so they keep that going, and I just I

(03:21):
just don't think Bryce Young and that offense is gonna
be able to keep up with what Dak and this
offense is doing right now. All right, let's go to
Brian and Kansas City is next.

Speaker 5 (03:29):
Good morning, sir, morning Brian. I just want to echo
what everybody else has been saying. Of course, are you know,
love to see people supporting each other, and certainly we
all think about Sebastian Randy this week and glad to
see that that's turned into a great community here.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
It certainly has, you know.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
And I was thinking you already brought it up. I
was thinking it wasn't this the stadium that Nick practically
got arrested in.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
So I didn't get around I had I had the
option to get arrested. That was one of my two options,
get on the bus or go to jail. So I
chose the bus. I wasn't happy about it, but it
was really dumb. It was a dumb situation. But you know,
it kind of all started had nothing to do with us.

(04:20):
You know, you know how it is, Well you see it.
We see it in football all the time. The guy
that hits the last one, he's the one that gets
the Yeah. Well I was the twelfth guy, Okay, I was.
I mean, after all of the things, and Jerry was
Jerry had several parts of this, and I think by
the end of the game, they just had enough of
the Dallas Cowboys and uh, and I took lebrun of

(04:43):
it there.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
Oh man, I love that story. That's funny.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (04:48):
Well, you know what I'm gonna say this week, they're
gonna have had enough of US two with the you
know that. You know half the stadium is going to
be Cowboys fans anyway, So I think this is going
to work out something along the lines of thirty three fourteen.
And seeing as Zach already picked the uh, I already

(05:08):
picked the obvious player, I'll go with a player that
played for both also the Red Rifle himself, Andy Dulph Dalton.
All right, brother, I'll talk to you next week.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
All right. Yeah, you know, this story that I have
for Andy Dalton is not it's not a great one.
And it reminds me of just the worst year that
we've ever covered the team, and not just covered the team,
but just in general, just twenty twenty how bad it was.
But I remember every morning, every day he had to

(05:42):
go you had to go test and take a COVID test.
And I remember a guy is sitting in his car
kind of like you can tell it was mad. It
turned out it was Andy because he had just he
had just tested positive for COVID, so he wasn't gonna
play this week or maybe the next one. I mean,
I can't remember. I think it was about to play
Pittsburgh and then that's why Gary Gilbert was the starter

(06:03):
and all that. But I remember it's like, this guy's
not happy and it was ended up being Andy Dalton
and he didn't get to play in the game. What
a crazy time that was, and it made and it
reminded me of later in the season when you know,
so the Cowboys have their start and already down, you know,
starting quarterback with Dak hurt, and then here's Andy Dalton

(06:24):
and he gets COVID, so he's out for this game,
so you know, and you just move to the next guy.
Except if you're playing Baltimore on the road on a
on a Thursday night game or whatever night it was
supposed to be Monday night game and Lamar Jackson has
COVID and he can't get back until a few days later.
Then they'll move the game so a Wednesday. So that

(06:45):
that's what happened. There not not salty about that with
it at all. Gary in New Mexico's next.

Speaker 6 (06:52):
Hey what's up?

Speaker 4 (06:53):
Nick?

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Hey? Gary?

Speaker 6 (06:54):
Way to bring back those memories of twenty twenty boy,
sure makes twenty twenty five seem.

Speaker 7 (06:58):
A whole lot better.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
Yeah, definitely.

Speaker 6 (07:01):
Our offense is so good this year. I mean, it's
just fun to watch if our defense can just catch up.

Speaker 5 (07:06):
A little bit.

Speaker 8 (07:07):
Yeah, all right, I got a good question for you.

Speaker 6 (07:09):
Okay, all right, Carolina We okay, So name the super
Bowl winning cowboy that was on Carolina's roster in nineteen
ninety six when they killed our dynasty.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
Name the super Bowl winning cowboy that was on that team?
Is that what you're saying?

Speaker 6 (07:29):
On the super Bowl with us? And then went to Carolina?
Man uh, and he was on their roster in ninety
six when they beat us in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Okay, defense, Mmmm, this is this is an obscure player?

Speaker 6 (07:48):
Well no, not really?

Speaker 1 (07:50):
What what? What?

Speaker 9 (07:51):
What?

Speaker 10 (07:52):
This way?

Speaker 6 (07:52):
This super Bowl winning backup was a backup on the
ninety sixth Carolina team that beat us.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Well, then, then, does kind of sound like like he
was kind of a insignificant player. I don't know, Wendell Davis,
I have no idea.

Speaker 11 (08:05):
No, no, no, man.

Speaker 6 (08:06):
Steve Burline. Steve Burline was not an insignificant player. He
got a playoff win. The guy in ninety one, and
he was a backup in ninety two, and then he
went to Carolina and was the backup to Kerry Collins
in ninety six, ended up having like a Pro Bowl
season in Carolina later on, I think about ninety nine.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Yeeah, yeah, I know that. Didn't know he was your backup?

Speaker 6 (08:26):
Yeah, okay, Okay, it's hard to find good Carolina trivia question.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
Sure not true, Gary. If you go to the website
right now, there's a twenty questions, have twenty Now.

Speaker 6 (08:39):
I've looked for this. Then I can't find it.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
It's on the website, like like, okay, how story is
this called Trivia Thursday? Which is still I think it's
still there on the website right now. I can have
a trivia question for you.

Speaker 6 (08:52):
Go ahead, I'm searching. I'll search for it, but there
it is, I think.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Go ahead, go aheady what else you got my question?

Speaker 6 (09:00):
Let's get back to this year's team. So depending on
how that because that last night's game that changed a
little bit of stuff for us. You know, Philadelphia's now
dropped two, so things are starting to take shape, you know,
and how Dallas plays if they beat Carolina. Now you've
got Washington coming next week. You know, things could turn
in the right direction here if we catch a break

(09:20):
here and there, and if they do that, especially with
Flora Noid coming, I mean, do you see any possibility?
And they don't hang up and listen. I mean we're
kind of heavy at wide receiver. It looks like did
you see them moving Tobert to maybe pick up a
defensive player if things fall the right way?

Speaker 10 (09:37):
All right?

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Thanks thanks for the call, Gary, And yeah, Trivia Thursday.
Every Thursday, we have about twenty questions that are related
to the games opponent. It's all Carolina questions. Kurt Daniels
and I kind of team up with that some pretty
good stuff this week. But you know, I'm watching high

(10:00):
to the Eagles and Giants. Is It's kind of funny
when you see this game and you and you're like, well,
you know, should you be even more disappointed that they
didn't go win that game in Week one against Philly
knowing that they really aren't that good this year, not
not as good as they were, and then they're not
playing as good, but they'll I still think that they
can turn things around. They're they're a tough team to

(10:22):
beat for sure, But then you then you look at
week two like, well, maybe the Cowboys are fortunate to
beat the Giants. A defense is getting better and better,
and you know in the in the quarterback running back there,
they're they're figuring things out. So you know when you
see that those are two teams you're gonna have to
face again. You get Philly at home, you get to
go to the Giants at the end of the season.
You know, the Giants are a team. And I remember

(10:44):
saying this, you guys probably heard this after that game
against the Giants. I said, Hey, the good news is
is that that you won the game, But also the
Giants are going to beat some teams. They're they're they're
not going to roll over there. They're gonna be pretty good.
So they're gonna be in the mix there. I think
they're gonna kind of it's gonna be an interesting division

(11:06):
when this all shakes out. It's gonna be very interesting
because I think right now, as it stands, these teams
look pretty competitive with each other. Washington's gonna win some games.
The Cowboys are right there, I think Philly and Giants.
So as for your question about receivers, let's get everyone
healthy first, let's let's see what that looks like. When

(11:27):
everyone is healthy, you get turped back, CD back, everyone's back.
Then when you really have a problem, you're like, all right,
we have mingo back. That's when you you you could
you could maybe say we have to do something, you know. Now,
I just feel like these things have a way of
working themselves out. As soon as you think you have
too many receivers, you end up, you know, with with

(11:49):
not enough. So I mean, right now as it stands,
I mean, Jalen Cropper and Jalen Brook were both elevated
to the roster, So until that doesn't happen, let's let's see.
But yeah, I could see. I could see them, you know,
maybe maybe making the trade and seeing what's out there,
or just the release if they have too many guys.

(12:10):
All right, Zach and Germany is next.

Speaker 7 (12:13):
Nick, How are you doing, man?

Speaker 1 (12:14):
I'm good. How are you good?

Speaker 7 (12:16):
It's been a little while. I've been calling you since
the Giants game.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
Oh wow, that's.

Speaker 7 (12:21):
How busy your phone line had been. Sorry, but that's
the testaments of the show. No, no, it's good. See
I'm glad to listen every day and hear the feedback.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Thank you.

Speaker 7 (12:29):
Kat came out the bag. By the way, my wife
borrowed the phone. She's like, who did you call? One
hundred and sixty four times? We had to have the
intervention talk.

Speaker 12 (12:37):
It's just.

Speaker 7 (12:41):
I'm sure I'm not the only one out there, but no,
I'm so proud to see you know.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
How is it like an iPhone where it says like
the number off to the side or says.

Speaker 7 (12:51):
The number on there. She's like, who are you calling?

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Jake far Yeah?

Speaker 7 (12:57):
Yeah, wow, I was about to ask for the bat
phone number of Like, look, I'm I might need to
reach out to Christmas Nick and get the squirt away.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
Especially because what time is it? Like, what time is it?

Speaker 7 (13:06):
Is that right now? It's five So I'm just getting
home from.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
Work five five five pm?

Speaker 7 (13:13):
Okay, might I think seven hours ahead of you guys?

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Okay, that's not that bad then all right, all right.

Speaker 7 (13:19):
What I wanted to really get into today, I think
two things. One, I want to give a shout out
to Shaddy. He has changed his team. And the reason
I say that in the years past when we lost
a player, not as many as we've lost this year.
If we lost a player at you know, Tyron Smith
went down or if we lost the guy like CD,
the team collapsed. You know, he has his team playing

(13:42):
and competing, especially with the odds against him. When you
look at the defense, the defense, you know, obviously itsn't
playing well, but Dak's playing lights out and we're competitive
and beating teams or or tying games that you know,
people thought we would lose. So that's that's the first.
One second thing. If I you know, he asked a
question about GM for a day a couple of weeks ago,

(14:04):
the first thing I would do is sign George Pickens.
And I'll tell you if with CD out, he just
got himself paid big time because he shows that he
could truly.

Speaker 13 (14:13):
Be a number one.

Speaker 7 (14:14):
And the reason that that's the benefit for us, imagine
what's going to happen when CD does come back. Somebody's
going to have one on one coverage, you know. And
then the last piece to that by signing Pickings, and
look at what your offensive line is able to do
one when they're healthy, and also the backups offensive we're
pretty squared away over the next two years. I would
use our top six picks, so the two from the Packers,

(14:35):
two of our first rounders, and two second rounders and
draft all defense. Do what Philly did a couple of
years ago, where they just went heavy draft in defense.
They rebuilt their team, put all the money on the offense,
which is what we have already, and you know, draft young,
fill in some holes, and see what we could do
in a year or two. But culturally, I could see
the change. And I'll hang up, listen, get your feedback.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
All right, Well, thank you for the call. Not not
a terrible strategy. I don't know about all six of those.
I mean, you know, you still still need to, you know,
figure out what your best move is. As far as
offensive line, it does seem like they've got some pretty
good linement here, but you know, at some point you
might need another tackle or or you know, running back

(15:19):
if you want to, if you're going to go that
route and get someone you know special, you know when
I say that, I mean that's what that's what you're
expecting when you draft a running back high like that. Yeah,
I mean, I can see a lot of resources going
to the defense over the next few years. But you know,
it's it's a good it's a good problem to have.

(15:41):
As far as signing Pickens, Yeah, you know, if if
it's the money works. And you know right now we
talked about this yesterday. What but you know his agent
and it's it's it's in the same group as with
Micah's agent, David Mullagata. It's not exactly his his same agent,
but still, you know, it's it's not gonna be easy.

(16:03):
It doesn't matter who it is, no matter who the
agent is. They know that they're projecting him to have
a really, really good season. And so you're not just
gonna sneak in a contract this time of year. So yeah,
and you know, when you when you do that, when
you draft, I mean, when you sign two receivers like that,
you wonder. You know, it's all good when they're winning.

(16:24):
You know they're winning. Look at the Eagles when they won,
it was great. Well, now they're offense struggling a little bit,
and correct me if I'm wrong, or both of those
receivers chirping, both those receivers not really loving what happens
when when they don't win games and the ball doesn't
go their way. And now we're starting to tweet out
cryptic messages and things like that. And all I'm saying is,

(16:47):
and now you're talking about these two receivers, they haven't
been quiet when the ball doesn't go their way. I'm
talking about pickings at Pittsburgh and of course CD here.
So I'm not saying not to re sign him. I'm
just saying that I think I want to see a
little bit more of this offense and see, you know,
how this year goes. I think I think he's great player,

(17:09):
and I want to see how it goes.

Speaker 10 (17:11):
You know.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
But there's going to be some games where they don't
win and see how both of them handle it and
all that. But if this is a true one A
one B, then I think they really working with something here.
All right, let's go to Robbie and Cocoa Beach, Florida.

Speaker 14 (17:26):
How are you today, Nick?

Speaker 1 (17:27):
Hey, Robbie, how are you?

Speaker 14 (17:29):
I am awesome except this raining, but I'm taking a
kid's fishing this weekend on Saturday. And then they were
watching a football game.

Speaker 7 (17:36):
All right, good day, great days, you know, good.

Speaker 14 (17:38):
Week could coming up.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
Cool.

Speaker 14 (17:41):
So my boy wanted me to call or he told
me next time I called, to give his prediction for
the game. This is from our day and he said
forty one twenty seven. I said, you think we're going
to put up a forty burger and he said, yeah, Dad,
we're going to whoop them.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
All right. Forty seven? All right?

Speaker 10 (17:57):
I said why twenty seven? He said, well, we're going to.

Speaker 14 (17:59):
Keep them out of the end zone and they're only
going to kick a couple of field goals, but they're
gonna get in the end zone a little bit.

Speaker 10 (18:05):
It's like, okay, what's that?

Speaker 6 (18:06):
That makes sense?

Speaker 1 (18:07):
Sounds like somebody that's watched some games this year.

Speaker 14 (18:10):
That's kind of what I watched every game with me year.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
Yeah, that's cool, all right, all.

Speaker 6 (18:15):
Right, man, Hey God bless have a good day.

Speaker 14 (18:17):
Give our love to all the storyliners.

Speaker 10 (18:19):
Now it's the whole community you made for us.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
Man. Sure, well, thank you, have a good weekend, and
go on fishing, and I'll see if the Cowboys can
get that forty burger. Forty one twenty seven. That's that
seems possible in a game, In a game like this,
I'm I know this is famous last words, but I
just don't see Carolina scoring that much. And I know

(18:42):
what defense that I'm watching here, and I've seen for
five games, and I know right Russell Wilson did and
I get it, but I don't know I'm I mean,
I think I just turned in a score of thirty
four to twenty four, so it's not that far off.
I just don't see a true high scoring game. I
think the Cowboys defense is going to have. This is

(19:02):
going to be their best game, and I think last
week was and maybe the week before that started to
see a little bit more. I think this will be
their best defensive game. All right, keep the streak going
with Jr. And Aviddale Arizona on JR. What's up? What's
our number? Eleven?

Speaker 10 (19:17):
I think it's eleven now. Yeah, to keep going, try
to keep it going. How's everything there in Dallas?

Speaker 1 (19:23):
It's good? I mean, are you feeling the pressure now
to like, oh my god, I get it, go get it.
I mean to keep this thing, to keep this streak going.

Speaker 10 (19:30):
Absolutely. I had a really good friend of mine in
town and he's a great guy, had back surgery. He's
just from out of town, came here for a specialist
and he had called me and I was like, man,
I don't want to hang up. I'm my boys, but
I got to start calling.

Speaker 15 (19:44):
Man.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
I love. I love, especially with a guy that's going
through back surgery or he's going to see a specialist,
and he's here and he's got all this stuff. Can
you imagine if you trying to explain to him, like
I have to go because I have to call this
guy in Dallas about this show again for the eleventh
straight day.

Speaker 10 (20:04):
He's actually a big RAMS fan and he's like personal
friends with uh. He grew up with Andy Reid in California,
so he has all these pictures and stuff from Andy Reid.
He's a great guy and I'm glad I got to
talk to him, and I still get to talk to you.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
So I was if I was friends with Andy Reid
and I was a RAMS fan and then friends with
Andy Reid, I'm sorry, I'd be a Chiefs fan. I
mean that that would be enough for me to switch
over to be a Chiefs fan. If I was friends
with Andy Reid, you know, I mean, I'm looking for her.
He's in to be a Chiefs fan, Like, yeah, I'm
Andy Reid. Anyways, what do you got?

Speaker 11 (20:37):
Yeah? No, I.

Speaker 10 (20:40):
Yeah. So some of the things I was to talk about,
y'all already talked about, so I don't waste the time
on that. But it just it's just just what I
think the Eagles are about to run away with it.
The NFL reminds me that it's a parody league. It's
a week two week game and it's now they're basically
game and a half ahead of us, and us, I

(21:02):
mean the Cowboys, but the I thought the ten and
seven was gonna ten and seven was going to win
the division. I think it still is. And if that's
the case, the Cowboys going to be there at the end,
and I'm hoping that the gauntlet they got to run
through near the end of the season is just going
to make them a stronger, more physical, better team and

(21:24):
they'll be ready for the playoffs this year, because I
think we're going to make the playoffs. And I want
to say one thing about Dak just really tired of
I know we all are about always playing great butt.
So my question would be to everybody, can you name

(21:45):
a team a quarterback who is a great quarterback, MVP
quarterback who was on an average team that ever won
the Super Bowl? Because I can name a whole bunch
of average quarterbacks that were on great teams that won
the Super Bowl. So I just as hard as it
is for me to admit, I just think the Cowboys
haven't been good enough.

Speaker 11 (22:03):
Yeah, just not good enough.

Speaker 10 (22:06):
I pushed the koolaid away and take my cowboy gogles
off and take a serious look. Just haven't been good enough.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
All right? Now, you're right.

Speaker 6 (22:14):
I got a.

Speaker 10 (22:14):
Feeling about this year though, And I can't explain it
to you, Like I've been a fan my entire life
and I'm sixty six years old, but this year just
feels different. I just feel like something's coming. And I
hope I'm right. All right, anyway, that's all I got.
Have a great weekend, be safe and go Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
All right, thank you, Jr.

Speaker 10 (22:34):
You know.

Speaker 1 (22:35):
You can't you can't worry about those those comments and
those the people that say that. I mean, that's what
they that's what they think about the Cowboys, and and
and they're not covering it week to week, and so
you get asked about it like, yeah, they look good now,
but let's see what happens to the well cool you know.
I just I'll be honest to too. In one I
hope they get there. I hope they get to the playoffs.

(22:57):
I mean, it's that's not going to be an easy
road to get there. So you know, it wasn't too
long ago where it didn't. I mean, after the Bears game,
is anyone thinking that or thinking, you know, playoffs and
now you know, the Green Bay game was was kind
of weird, and then then all of a sudden the
Jets game and then see what happened to Carolina, And

(23:19):
this is the time to start maybe stacking some wins
if you can. But I mean, just getting to the
playoffs is still a goal. I mean, I saw, I
don't know who does the analytics stats and whatever, there
was a thirty one percent chance the Cowboys make the playoffs.
That can that can change dramatically. Now you know, with
a with a win this week and all that just

(23:40):
kind of in your fantasy game and you have an
eighty percent chance of winning the game and then you lose,
and you know, so percentages I don't know if I
agree with anyways, But anyways, let's go to break real
quick on Cowboy storyline. Be right back, Cowboys fans.

Speaker 4 (26:02):
Well, what's up?

Speaker 18 (26:02):
Nick?

Speaker 1 (26:03):
How are you all right?

Speaker 18 (26:04):
I'll keep it quick. My predictions twenty eight to seventeen Boys.
We were just talking about what people are saying after
the Bears loss. I saw mock drafts on on Twitter self.
You know, it's a long season.

Speaker 1 (26:18):
Everybody's got to relax, which means which means you clicked
on it.

Speaker 18 (26:23):
It was there, it came up and you clicked on it.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
I wonder what the Cowboys are gonna.

Speaker 18 (26:28):
Say, yeah, exactly, which leads me to this question, Uh,
for you, how much of an impact, if any, do
you think the game last night has on the Cowboys
uh making a deal before the deadline?

Speaker 1 (26:44):
Hmm, that's a good question. I didn't. I didn't think
of it that way. I think the Cowboy I think.
I think Jerry and Schottenheimer, I think they feel like
they're in it. They're yeah, they're in any ways, but
but you know, maybe so maybe a little bit more
obtainable to go and and and win this division and

(27:06):
be the best team in this division. Yeah, I kind
of think. But I feel like they aren't going to
make a move for this year. I feel like they're
gonna make a move for the next couple of years.
And so if it's if it's here, it's here. If
if it's there, I don't know if they feel like
they need another guy to be better this year. But

(27:28):
we'll but we'll see. I mean, these next two weeks
are real big because Carolina Washington, you should win, Uh,
you know, I think you should win both games. But
the Washington game is going to be I think, I
think they they're The record's going to be about the same.
Both games were super closed last year, so that one's
going to be like a telling point of like where
where are they really? Where do they really stand right now?

Speaker 18 (27:49):
Yeah? And the division, Like I said this division, I
think using the term, but when I say up for grabs,
I mean I I don't know.

Speaker 13 (27:56):
At this point.

Speaker 18 (27:57):
I think they are definitely in it. Trivia. I saw
on the website the first the former eighty eight who
caught the pass in that game the two thousand and
two probably I know you remember the game. I said
it at the time. It was fifty five minutes of
the worst football I've seen the Cowboys play. And you
remember how that at the end with Quincy Carter. I

(28:19):
mean that was just yeah. Now, in that game, Rodney
Pete was one of the quarterbacks for Carolina. Do you
know who the other quarterback was?

Speaker 1 (28:31):
Writing Pete wasn't the starter in that game? No?

Speaker 18 (28:33):
No, well the other quarterback I'll give you he won
a Heisman Trophy.

Speaker 1 (28:40):
Really yeah, I mean if if I had if I
had like ten minutes here, I could definitely get that
Winky Chris Winky.

Speaker 18 (28:49):
Chris Mink, you got it. Great job, Nick.

Speaker 1 (28:52):
Sweating there, all right, cool, all right, man. All I
could think of was the Nebraska quarterback. I don't even
think he can play the crowd, chair crowd or whatever.
But I was just trying to think of that time.
You know, you know that funny that game. You're right
that it was a terrible game.

Speaker 18 (29:05):
Oh my god, down.

Speaker 1 (29:07):
Like thirteen to nothing or so. But it was an
eighty yard tipped past. It was lucky passed Galloway, Galloway.

Speaker 13 (29:17):
He was just.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
Behind the defense. Quincy tried to get it there, got deflected,
he caught it, ran it in, and You're like, oh, well,
now the Cowboys are not going to get shut out.
Maybe they have a shot to win it. And then
the defense made a play and then Antonio Briant made
one of the best catches I've ever seen, especially for
a game winning touchdown to win that game. And I
mean the definition of stealing a game.

Speaker 18 (29:38):
Oh my god, that one.

Speaker 1 (29:40):
That one right there, fourteen thirteen, two thousand and two.

Speaker 18 (29:43):
Absolutely all right, thanks man, I have a good one.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
You two. Let's go to Blair Newport News, Virginia.

Speaker 19 (29:52):
Oh hey, hey, Nick, great to be on the show today,
super excited. I hadn't been able to hear what's what
you've been talking about, But if you don't mind, I'd
like to just say a couple of things about this
whole week. So I know there was some discussion the
other day about, you know, they're just the Jets and

(30:13):
doesn't matter we'll lose in the playoffs and everything, but
I got to tell you, even this week has been
a big journey with hearing about Randy and Sebastian and
the storyliners and and you know, just being part of
this community and participating in all this is what makes
those playoff moments great. We sign up every year to
follow this team and it's an emotional journey. It breaks

(30:36):
my heart most of the time, but these games are
what we live for. And I got to be honest
that you look back a couple of weeks and we thought,
you know, with this defense playing the way it was,
you know, things look much more grim. It looked like
Philadelphia was just gonna you know, coast into the postseason

(30:58):
and Green Bay basically had it wrapped up. And now
we're seeing, you know, improvements on our defense and a
lot of opportunity for the offense, and some of those
teams are showing a little bit of weakness too. Man,
enjoy the ride because it's fantastic. We're just I'm super excited, right.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
And now you're you're exactly right about the journey. Do
you have another point?

Speaker 19 (31:22):
Yeah, just that I'm hoping to go to the game
this weekend with Shelby. We're trying to get tickets and
make our way down there. I was thinking about Carolina
and I just thought, you know, I don't have a
lot of good memories about the Cowboys in Carolina, but
I was wondering if you did, because they broke my
heart in ninety six when we lost in the playoffs

(31:43):
to them, and it's just always been cautious. But I'm
hoping to get to the stadium and actually see a
victory by the Cowboys and see us continue to build
on the success. We're very excited.

Speaker 6 (31:54):
That's it.

Speaker 19 (31:55):
I'll take the rest off the AAR. Have a great day,
love you and Chris, and go Cowboys. I'm predicting another
thirty seven to whatever in a win for the Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (32:06):
All right, thirty seven or whatever. Thank you for the call, Blair.
Great memories of Carolina. No, not not really. I mean,
was there the only the funniest story that was probably
two thousand and seven. There was a night game Cowboys
had in a great season. I was we were at
the hotel we were staying at has A had a

(32:28):
basketball gym like kind of on the second or third
floor in the hotel and shooting hoops. And went went
up there about one o'clock, two o'clock and me and
another sports rider and t O three of us just
shooting the ball. And he didn't say much. He didn't
he'd talk. He was just he was just shooting. You know.

(32:49):
It wasn't one of those every time you know, you know,
every time he shot it would make sure he got
the ball back to it. I didn't want to stay
anywhere close to him and you know, maybe him like
turn his ankle whatever. But that was the game, like
in the first quarter where he got hurt. He got
hurt in the Carolina game and he ended up you know,
it was like a high ankle sprain I think is

(33:11):
what it was. And he ended up, you know, missing
some the next parts of that season and was hurt
in the playoffs. And so I was actually playing basketball
with them earlier that day. That was also the game
that I got pink eye in the middle of the game.
So I don't know how I wrote a story. On
the way back, I couldn't even see my computer. Got

(33:33):
my badge ripped off of me by the security. Two
years ago, I saw a playoff game there that was
pretty awful. In two thousand and three, it's when I
realized that when teams have the white towels, you're not
gonna win. It's like you're not winning, not in the
playoffs if they have the towels and they're over there
waving them L and So, no, I don't have the
best memories of Carolina. We'll see we can get one

(33:54):
this week. All right, let's go to Sebastian and Savannah Georgia. Sebastian,
what's up?

Speaker 4 (33:58):
Oh, I'll tell you what's gone on? That mess they eat? Man,
the sun is out and it's raining outside, but the
sun is shining in my life. Then Philadelphia, he goes
downtaul our major L. Well, let's just talk about this
for a second. Of my uncle Rutcke's boice. If I
made don't trust damn new egos over at or that
Super Bowl hangover show in strong.

Speaker 11 (34:17):
Look at it.

Speaker 4 (34:17):
We do what we're supposed to do this weekend, missal heating.
We're gonna get ourselves a half game out of first place.
It's a beautiful way to be living our lives right now.
And I just want to say to the Philadelphia because
thank you so much for the early birthday presence, and
to Cowboys Nations and all seriousness right on. It's just
a loving positivity you guys. Just wait, you guys, have
a great weekend.

Speaker 10 (34:34):
Cowboys win.

Speaker 4 (34:35):
I'm gonna go thirty three twenty eight. You have a
great team in.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
Streatment you too, Subbassion. I think that was a Sebastian,
you know, call in earlier this week. Obviously different mood.
Hope it sounds like everything's going good. Everyone's like, shout
out to Sebastian. I hope he's doing good. I think
you're doing fine, but get good to hear from you.
And thirty three twenty eight, all right, we'll see in

(35:00):
one of those. They already won a little bit with
the Eagles losing, but then again they lost to the Giants.
The Giants are right there as well, and they've beaten
the Chargers. I could have easily won this game against
the Cowboys. So it's it's an It's gonna be a while,
like a wide open division for sure. Let's take one
more break, Cowboys storyline'll be right back after this.

Speaker 15 (35:26):
All right, Cowboys fans, this one's for you. Jill Let's

Chris and San Angelo is next?

Speaker 13 (36:53):
Chris, what's up hey, mister Nick? How you doing?

Speaker 1 (36:56):
Bud great? How are you?

Speaker 13 (36:57):
I'm doing well?

Speaker 11 (36:58):
Thank you.

Speaker 13 (36:59):
First of all, there's been a lot of coaching talk
and I was talking to Travis. I was responding to
him the other day and I said, you know, I'm
starting to get worried about all the burned that the
new offensive coordinator is getting. So I was like, why
don't we slow down? Because selfishly, I'd like to keep

(37:20):
the guy around for a couple more years. So I
was like, he's getting a lot of kicks. So anyways,
but as far as the next game, I know Friday's
a hot ticket, so I'll go quick. I think the
Panthers definitely better than the Jets. But with this coaching
staff and the progression, I feel like it's a different thing.

(37:42):
So I see it's getting through this. And since we're
zero to two against teams this season that have animal mascots,
we're about to go one and to maintain the Panthers and.

Speaker 11 (37:55):
We will win.

Speaker 13 (37:57):
I have the same score, Sebastian, but I'm not changing it.
I'm going to go thirty three twenty eight, all right
on a goal line stop on Rico in the five minutes.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
What if he like fumbled backwards and his quarterback, you know,
he was he was diving for the goal line to
win the game like he was in Pittsburgh and fumbled.
But this time they don't get the fumble. I don't
think it's going to be that close.

Speaker 13 (38:21):
Maybe well, you know, I'm not to the point. I
would love to see one of those games, Nick, where
we just like due to a team, like get them
talking about their yeah, if they even remember how to
play football on that day, you know, that sort of thing.
But I don't know if we're ready for that. Yeah,
but I'd love to see it. But I'll stick with

(38:42):
the safe one here, Okay, I get more confidence later
I will call a few blowouts. Who knows. Yeah, okay,
but that's what I got for you, my friends.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
All right, sounds good. You know, I wanted to say
something earlier when Zach in Germany called and given some
some love to to shoddy about. You know, usually when
this team has an injury, they go in the tank.
You know, I think I think we should be fair

(39:14):
to to Mike McCarthy on this. That isn't always the case.
Uh they I've seen this team. Cooper Rush has led
this team to four wins in a row, and uh,
he's won a lot of the games that he's had
to play. And and that's that's the most significant injury
that you can have, is to have your starting quarterback

(39:35):
go down for you know, multiple games. And they figured
out ways to win. They won games, you know, some
without tyring, some without Zach Martin. So just to be fair,
like I I get, it's easy to kind of live
in the moment and go, well, we never win when
we have injuries. You know, McCarthy did a good job

(39:56):
twelve and five, three years in a row. Now twelve
and five, they had injuries all three of those seasons.
They figured out ways to do it, So I don't
I like what shot he's doing. Like listening to him
and the press conferences, walking around the hallway. He's just
a good He's just a cool dude, you know, that's

(40:17):
what he is. And I think he's got a good message.
But I don't want to just say, well, it's all
different now, and they weren't that way before. They always
could win games without without with having some injuries. All right,
Steven from Helloates Texas? Is that right? Helloats hellotus, hellotus.
What's up man?

Speaker 11 (40:38):
Well?

Speaker 8 (40:39):
Great show, great show. I love I loved your comments.
I love listening to the show. I just I apologize
first off, if I'm asking a question that you've already answered.

Speaker 1 (40:51):
Well, first of all, hold on. First of all, let
me cut you off. You're a first time caller. You
know what that means, all right? I just heard there
we go. Got to get you in for the first time,
all right, So hey, it's your first call. Even if
you repeat that's okay, what do you got?

Speaker 8 (41:08):
Well, years ago you were going to recall this. We
made a big trade or a big deal and we
got Charles Haley, and you know what that did to
the team. And I'm suggested this year, with the trade
deadline coming up soon, that we go after Trey Henderson
or Max Crosby, And I want to know your feelings

(41:28):
of that. We can we've got draft picks that don't
help us until next year, or we can use them
to help us this year.

Speaker 1 (41:37):
Yeah, what do you think? Well, all right, well, thank
you for the call. At different world, nineteen ninety two
was a different world. Salary cap, wasn't there yet a
little different It easier to get rid of players just
because they didn't fit into the culture at the time.
It's harder to trade these guys now, especially the ones

(41:58):
that have big contracts. So but it's not impossible. I mean,
obviously we've seen it. But it's got to be at
the right the right spot of their of their deal
where the team that's you know, they don't want to
lose a lot. I mean, remember, no one even talked
about this, but the Packers had to, you know, they
had to eat a lot on the solary cap just
to just to trade Kenny Clark. Uh, maybe a ten

(42:19):
million dollar hit just just just for that trade. So
when you're trading guys like that, there's gonna be it's
not as easy as it was not talking specific players.
But but yeah, I mean, if if, if it works
for the Cowboys to go and get a player that
can help them right now, you can tell that they
need some help in the past rush and some consistent
pass rush. A guy that you're kind of worried about. Yeah,

(42:41):
if that guy's out there that you can trade for,
he's going to be on your team, uh, the next year,
next couple of years. You see him being a good,
good fit for the next few years. Because remember, you know,
when you draft a player with your first round pick,
you expect him to be a really great player, be
a Pro Bowl player. So if you're going to give
up a first run round pick or even a second

(43:01):
round pick, you better expect this guy is going to
be a contributor for you for four or five years.
Now you get into the third fourth, that's when you
start to see the rental picks like we you know,
the trades like we have for pickings. But you know,
I think I think the Cowboys will be looking. There's
no doubt about it. They got to find the right spot,

(43:24):
you know. But the more that this team kind of
keeps coming on coming on, you don't you you may
not want to trade a first round pick for it.
It just depends who's open. It's still early for it,
not just the Cowboys, for every team. There's even at
zero to five. I mean, the Jets are thinking, they're
they're trying to figure out how to win, get some games,
you know, get some wins, and try to get to

(43:45):
the playoffs. What my point is, every team in the
league still has that. We're not trying to sell just yet.
That's why the that's why they've moved the the deadline back,
because it is such a parody league now. You never
know how things are going to be. Remember the Cowboys
for three and five and they traded for a Marii Cooper,
you know, three and five and people were probably already

(44:05):
talking about mock drafts and things like that, and they
traded for him, and they went ten and six and
got to the playoffs, and that whole season changed. So
we'll see if something like that were to happen. All right,
I think the phone lines are open, So this is
a good time to pretty much end the show unless
there's there is a caller. Okay, let's go for Ester
and minnesot All right, Lester, Good morning, Nick, how are

(44:29):
you doing.

Speaker 11 (44:31):
Hey man, I'm doing good.

Speaker 1 (44:32):
How you doing good? What's up?

Speaker 11 (44:34):
It's good at the hit from Shabaskan. I'm glad to
hear that he's doing and his sounding real strong out there,
So the kudos to him. As I was watching the
game last night, I'm glad that I was rooting for
the Giants. Day won. Now once we win, we'll be
a half game out. My player to watch for this

(44:55):
game OB's Hoffman project. Dak run the ball, all play
action pass, throw the ball. That all right, cowboy?

Speaker 1 (45:03):
All right? Sounds good? All right? Well, yeah, I mean Hoffman,
he's all he does is just the offense just seems
to thrive when he when he's there playing center or
guard whatever. There's there never been a letdown there. I
can't even remember or recall a snap or two where

(45:25):
you're like, man, that's Hoffman. That's why he's a backup. No,
I mean, you don't even hear about him. And the
same with Bass. Both those guys that play really well,
and it always feels like they play together like you know,
it's it's when one of them's in the other ones in.
So that's kind of a product of the injury bug
that that's hit this team at the same position it happened,

(45:47):
you know, four starters out on offense too, for the
wide receivers, for for the offensive line. So Bass and Hoffman,
they they play well together. They played a lot of
preseason games next to each other, they play a lot
of regular season games. Seems to be going really well.
All right, great week. It's a good show today and
a good week. A lot of fun hearing from you guys.

(46:08):
Got good twelve calls today. See what the Cowboys can
do in Carolina. We'll be back on Monday to talk
about it. So for Chris Beam, I'm Nick Eatman. See
you next week on Cowboys Storyline.
