The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
This is Cowboys Storyline presented by Gillette, the official shave
of the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Here's Nick Eatman. Hello and welcome to Cowboys Storyline presented
by Gillette. I'm Nick Eatman. Let's talk some Cowboys football.
Not the best game the Cowboys fans have seen last week.
Definitely a tough loss to the Carolina Panthers, one where
(00:44):
you never really got a good sense of how the
game was going. Early on, after an interception touchdown and
it was ten to three, you kind of thought, maybe,
you know, the Cowboys would would figure out the running
game and you know, either figure out how to run
the ball and stop the run, and neither thing ever materialized.
They never did find a groove in the running game,
(01:06):
which hurt him down in the red zone. Yes, they
moved the ball around, but in the red zone they
stalled twice settled for field goals that proved to be
a difference in the game there. And then obviously, you know,
the Panthers ran the ball whenever they wanted to and
then play action at time and made Bryce Young look
like a better quarterback than he is, and then they
(01:26):
ended up winning the game and made Rico Dad a
little better running back than he probably is, even though
he's running really well, but not to that tune that
shouldn't be the norm. So tough loss for the Cowboys.
They could pick up the pieces this week. See what
happens when they take on Washington. The Commanders had a
very tough Monday night loss for them as well. Probably
should have won the game but didn't, So it happens.
(01:48):
We'll see what happens here at at and T Stadium.
Dan Quinn and Jayden Daniels and that crew comes back
to town. All right, let's talk about it here eight
a A eight five five two two ninety seven. Let's start.
We're gonna stay in Kansas City here. We're gonna start
with Bryan in Kansas City, Brian, what's.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Up, Good morning, sir?
Speaker 2 (02:03):
How are you good?
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Man?
Speaker 4 (02:05):
Hey? So, thank god the NFC East is coming back
to us. We'll take we'll take. We'll take all those
losses we could that they can provide to.
Speaker 5 (02:14):
Give us a chance.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
Right, yeah, So I think, you know, I think my
one question today is everybody wants us to go out
and get you know, make trades and use our capital.
And and I'm I'm for that too. I think we
need I think the only thing we can do now.
We can't get a Mike linebacker now, but we could
get it. We could get somebody who can rush the passer,
you know, but right now without that, what other thing
(02:38):
could eber Flus do that he's not already doing that
might make a change. So and I think the answer
is we got a blitz more than the game.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
Yeah, yeah, that's it.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
That's that's my only question, man, I'll talk to you later.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Yeah, that's it. That's the answer. That'd be my answer
if you said, what's your favorite Fortnite game? Blitz, Whether
you think the Cowboys need to do blitz same thing,
blitz get after them because you can't get there with four.
I mean, that's that's the problem. Nobody wants to do that.
No nobody that has a great pass rush on their
own ever really has to to dial up a blitz.
(03:16):
And therefore you got more guys back there to cover,
and you're gonna have a great defense. But when you
don't have that, when you don't when your your guys
up front just can't win off the off the ball.
They can't. Then we we know this, and and and
these guys that's why they're kind of available. I mean,
look look at the guys that that they have on defense.
(03:38):
Most of these guys have have been especially from a
pass rusher standpoint, And you look at Fallor, and you
look at Clowney, you look at Houston. These guys have
been with other teams. It's they flashed, you know, a
little bit here and there, but for the most part,
they you know, they they moved on to other teams,
or their teams moved them on, whatever, whatever the case
may be. So you're talking about Jerneyman pass rusher and
(04:01):
players where you know the Cowboys, you know, there hasn't
been a ton of consistency and there's not a lot
of consistency in the pass rush. So that's something that
the Cowboys are gonna have to to manufacture. We talked
about this on Monday Show that that you know, in
the Eagles game in the Week one, they didn't have it.
So they figured out ways. The blitz, whether it be
the corners coming here and there, somebody's got to do it.
(04:22):
Marris Leah foul blitz the other day against Carolina got home.
There was only I think five blitz is in the game,
which is unbelievable to me because I'm I'm probably blitzing
three or four times a series if it goes that long.
I think if you if you blitz five times in
a series, it's not gonna be that long because they're
either going to score or you're gonna make it play
(04:45):
with their scoring anyways, that's the problem. They're scoring anyway.
So this it's not really a bend, but don't break.
It's just bending. That's that's what's happening here. All right.
Casey Joe in Kansas City is next, Casey Joe, Good morning.
Speaker 6 (04:59):
How are you this morning?
Speaker 2 (05:00):
How are you?
Speaker 6 (05:01):
I'm good, sir, I'm good.
Speaker 7 (05:03):
Hey.
Speaker 6 (05:03):
How was your treatment Carolina?
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Was it good?
Speaker 6 (05:05):
Did they treat you right?
Speaker 8 (05:06):
No?
Speaker 2 (05:06):
They didn't. They did it. I was fine. I didn't
get the brunt of it. Other people that are on
other shows here they dealt with it a little bit
more surprisingly, But but that just goes to show that
it's it sucks down there in Carolina. They won the game.
This isn't sour grapes, but we've you know, been there
before when the Cowboys dominated them and and they sucked
(05:30):
down there in Carolina. So it's not my favorite place
at all. So no, it wasn't a great trip.
Speaker 6 (05:36):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 8 (05:36):
Brother.
Speaker 6 (05:37):
Well, at least Washington decided to be the copy yet
league and you know, lose by a field goal, just
like us. They just wanted to be like us.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Yeah. I don't know if it makes you feel better
or if it's just like what another wasted opportunity. I mean, like,
you know, because you got to beat Carolina on the road,
and if you can't beat Carolina on the road, you
know it's going to be tougher, and it is going
to be tougher than that. That just seems like a
very winnable game. And so when when you see the
Eagles lose and see Washington lose, it's like, well, at
least it's not that bad. But you also think of
(06:06):
it like, man, you gotta you gotta take care of business.
When the door was open like that, we'll.
Speaker 6 (06:12):
Have a good day, Chris is telling we gotta hurry
so I'll have.
Speaker 9 (06:16):
This week.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
That was your only question, can't Oh, I have a
whole bunch of questions, but.
Speaker 6 (06:21):
Quick, quick, quick, I was going to ask you if
you think they're going to give out one or eleven
think slips. I'm like, it's Era is going to go?
Is the whole defense?
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Okay? All right, well they can't. Thanks for the call.
I don't think either one at the moment.
Speaker 7 (06:35):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
You know, Jerry got asked about it on Tuesdays the
radio show, and Steven Jones have been asked about it
as well. They don't doesn't seem like they're they're willing
to make a move from coaching personnel at the moment.
But you know, you, I think the first thing you
gotta do is is is trick some things up and
and and if you're not going to do that, then
(06:55):
then I think I think you do have to make
a move. If your coaches isn't not going to to
change what he's doing, then then you got to change
the coaches. But right now, I think you see what
what happens and see if they if they're willing to adjust,
That's what great coaches do. They adjust, They adjust to
what the situation is. They they fit the scheme around
(07:16):
their players and instead of trying to fit the players
into the scheme. That's what we've seen so far. And
if they keep doing it then, I mean, especially from
a from a zone defense standpoint, it's it's pretty predictable
of what your team's gonna do, and it's you're not
getting any pass rush, then you'll just sit there all
day long, and you're gonna let guys like Hunter and
Froh just go across the middle and make plays. And
(07:38):
and and he's a good route runner. I'm not saying that.
I'm just saying anybody, anybody could probably get open. I
think me and Chris could get open. Uh, if you
give us a few seconds maybe, I don't know. But
if you give us a few seconds, well, I mean
that's the nature of the NFL. You can get open.
So there's no pass rush. And so if there's no
pass rush, then then you the zone doesn't doesn't really work.
(07:59):
And man de manage not gonna work either if you
don't get any pass rush. But at least that way
you can blitz and you can use somebody in that
zone to get closer to the line of scrimmage. All right,
Raza is in the Assandria Virginia Raza, what's up?
Speaker 10 (08:11):
Hey, what's up?
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (08:13):
Just I'm doing good? How about you?
Speaker 11 (08:15):
Good?
Speaker 12 (08:16):
Good?
Speaker 10 (08:17):
So, yeah, it was a tough loss. You know, it
just sucks that our offense has to play almost perfect
to get the wins, to get these wins, which is tough,
and no offense is going to always play perfect, even
though Dak has been playing fairly well. And then what
I've been seeing, I don't know if you see this
too when you watch film, is like what I heard
from the other radio shows is a lot of players
(08:40):
are playing like hero ball and not staying like in
their alignments and stuff like that. I feel like that's
been an issue for us for the past couple of years.
And then I just have two questions real quick. One
is Brad. It's a little off topic, but Brad Shams
always says walk the dog. Do you know what, like
what that term means when people get a touchdown? He
says walk the dog.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Not really, I mean, like that's just a guess. It
means like it's easy, you know, or something like that.
I have no idea. I've never really asked him. That's
just kind of his phrase, but I think it's kind
of like just on a Sunday stroll or something. I'm
not really sure. I haven't asked him that, Okay.
Speaker 10 (09:20):
And then my other question, I'll take it off air.
Do you see like us making like a trade? Like,
do you sense a trade maybe happening to help the defense?
Me personally, I would just like to just stick with
what we have and just you know, fight it out.
But I want to hear if you sent something happening.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Thank you, all right, thank you? Res you know I do.
Actually I see them making a trade. I don't know.
I don't have any specific players or I haven't heard
that or anything like that. But the reason why I
can see that happening is is your offense is too good.
Dak is playing too too good right now to just say, man,
let's see see how it goes. Get these picks. These
(10:01):
picks have to develop to you're gonna get late round
first picks or mid to late whatever it's gonna be.
And and you're gonna get two of them, and they're gonna,
you know, take some time to develop. And I think
when you when you look at there's nothing that's a guarantee,
you know, even if you pick up another Mazie Smith,
another Tyler Guidon, another Tyler Smith, all of those guys
need to develop. So I think the way your quarterback
(10:24):
is playing and the way this offense is right now,
I think it would be a shame to not try
to go and do something to help it. Because if you,
if you help this this defense just a little bit,
who said this Monday, just a tad where you're getting
off the field a couple times more, where you know,
seven points here, four points here. I mean, if you
(10:45):
give me, if you give me seven points a game
off off every score, I mean, I think the Cowboys
are four and one or five and one or whatever
that would be. So that's not reality. But my point
is is that that's how close it is, and that's
how good you're are offenses. So that's why I think
I would I would make sure and not waste this.
And I think if there's a move to be made,
(11:06):
I think the Cowboys will look for it. All right,
let's take a break here on Cowboys storyline. I'd be
right back after this all.

To Cowboys Storyline presented by Gillette, the official shave of
the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
All right back here on Cowboys Storyline, Let's get straight
to the phones again. We got Jr. And Avandale Arizona Jr.
Speaker 8 (13:00):
Are how you doing doing great?
Speaker 11 (13:02):
How's everything in Dallas?
Speaker 2 (13:03):
Good?
Speaker 11 (13:04):
Well, we got I got back from the ledge yesterday.
It's a week to week league. We're two plays out
of first place, so I'm happy about that. Nobody saw
those games last night who who won and who lost?
So it's week to week. We got a shot. I
just wanted One thing I want to say is that
looking at the defense. Last thing I'm gonna say about
(13:26):
defense is that looks like ebri Flus is playing chess,
trying to teach these guys to play chess. And I
think we need to change the game to checkers, make
it simpler and try to try to win some games.
And the one question for you, is Kaylan Carson going
to play this week to the night to see him
in there instead of Elim. That's all I got. Have
a great day, go to war.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
Thanks for the call. I think Klin Carson is supposed
to be activated, at least that's what it sounds like.
Stephen Jones was saying Mingo as well, you know, I
just I've never really seen a lot out of Kayln
Carson to be excited about it. You know, he's every
time he's got an opportunity to play, either he hasn't
(14:11):
played that well or then he gets hurt. So you know,
I know he had he had a little bit of,
you know, a good training camp as a rookie. A
lot of that was expectations too, based off of you know,
fifth round pick, and then here he is and he
has a pretty good training camp. But we'll see, I mean,
I guess, yeah, he gives you something more than than Elim.
(14:31):
He hasn't played in a long time, so I didn't
play any preseason games of course, and so he's he's
been banged up. You know, we'll we'll see what what
he can provide.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
Same with with Mingo as well. Played a little bit
more and see how they how they do that because
they got some receivers going to be activated this week obviously,
CD and turpins so and and the thing about the
chess versus checkers. The reason why I think dan Quinn
was such a great coordinator is he simplified it for
(15:02):
the defense very easily, but yet it was it was
not easy for offensive coordinators and offensive opposing offenses to
beat it. That's that's the key, because you can you
could say I've got this, I've got this really easy
defense for our players to understand. Well, guess who also
knows about it? That that offensive coordinator who's watching you
for six days in a row leading up to it,
(15:23):
and and then you know what I mean, like you
can kind of figure it out. So the best coordinators
are the ones that make it easy for your players
and hard for the opponents to figure out. And so
that's that's the key that I think that they've got
to find that balance. All right, let's go to Atlanta
for our next call. G in Atlanta, Good.
Speaker 9 (15:40):
Morning, Nick.
Speaker 4 (15:41):
How are you doing well?
Speaker 9 (15:42):
But I'm well And I'll forgive me if you already
answered this question man Booker is I haven't heard anything
about Booker. How long would uh will it be for
him to come back, and I just heard you say
Turperens coming back as well. But I have another question
on how why does Donovan Wilson continues to get left
(16:05):
in coverage all the time. Why don't I know he's
both to be a box safety for us? Yeah, we
haven't man covered a lot man, So I just get
offline and here.
Speaker 15 (16:15):
As on that.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
It don't have a great answer for you on that one.
I mean, he's the safety. They like to be interchangeable safeties,
but it really isn't the case though. Hooker was more
of your free safety and Donovan your strong safety. Donovan
makes you know, he'll make some plays, he gets some interceptions,
but he's not He's not the best in coverage. He's
(16:37):
on the ground a lot. It feels like I see
him slipping and falling, you know, just things things like
that he needs to be closer to the line of scrimmage.
They don't have a ton of options at safety They've
got I mean, jan Ye Thomas, I think is a
little bit more of your of your free safety. He's
been okay. I mean I think he's been pretty good
(16:58):
since since he's he's gotten in there. But yeah, Donovan,
I made their comparison yesterday to Roy Williams, and it's
very similar. You know, the the big hits, tone setting plays,
can get some turnovers around the ball, can make some
big tackles, big hits, but gives up some, you know.
(17:18):
And that's what mismatches are. They're mismatches for both sides
of the ball. Asked for your question about Booker, he's
he could be back this week. And Booker, Turpin and
CD are three guys that that Schottenheimer said they're hopeful
will return this week, so that that would be a
big plus to get him back out there. All right,
let's go to Dylan Northport, Florida.
Speaker 16 (17:40):
Dylan, Hey, Nick, So yesterday called in a little hot
my bag. I didn't need to be that out an accident,
but you challenge me, and you got me thinking a
little bit instead of giving up on the defense. You know,
there's a couple of things I want to do just
that instantly, hopefully improved. I'm not sure if I've seen
the willingness from Fluke to do these things, but I'm
keeping Wanyan mixing into Marky's bell.
Speaker 4 (18:02):
I'm keeping Donald out.
Speaker 16 (18:03):
Of coverage when possible, playing in close to the line,
I'm gonna play a lot more man with Diggson Bland
because if I'm gonna lose, I'm gonna lose doing what
I do best, and that's man covered with Dickson Bland.
I'm gonna stop getting cute right. And then lastly, we
got to get a fast rush. So I'm blitzing the
heck out of my linebackers and they're coming more often
than not. That's what's raising to skyrocket. I just want
to get your thoughts on what you would do yes
(18:25):
to maybe instantly through the defense.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Yeah, well thanks, thanks for the call of Dylan and
anybody that didn't hear you know, yesterday everybody was frustrated
on the Monday Show. Everybody was frustrated. And all I
was kind of saying was is because your offense is
so good, and it really is. Can score a lot
of points that and it's keeping you in these games
that I'm not asking for a lot. You're not getting
(18:47):
beat twenty four to three every week, You're getting beat
at the buzzer, You're gonna beat last play of the game,
last drive, things like that. So you know that's why
I was like, let's see about fixing a couple of things. Tweaks,
tweaks and alterations can make the biggest difference here. That's
how close things are, and that's why I'm not ready
to just give up and say it's not going to
be better now. I like what you're saying. I like
(19:09):
all of those things. I think that the linebackers are
going to have to be the ones to blitz. Maybe
Donovan Wilson, you know, you want to keep them close
to the line of scrimmage. There's nothing closer than that
but them on the other side of the line of
scrimmage for blitz. But whatever it is, it's got to
be mixing it up. You've got to know. I'm not
sure who's going to be come and win and where.
(19:29):
That's the biggest key. That's what we've got to figure
out here. Let's go to Sebastian and Savannah Georgia real quick.
Speaker 15 (19:35):
Oh no, I was good morning, mister, even How you
doing good?
Speaker 2 (19:38):
How are you?
Speaker 15 (19:39):
I'm doing just frying.
Speaker 17 (19:39):
Listen.
Speaker 15 (19:40):
I wasn't mad Monday. I was fine. I listen the
words for the profit. Rico Dotto, buckle up because this
is the season that we're in for. We got a
preview of this against the Jets. They just didn't stick
to the run game. We had a guy coming in
off of a two hundred yard rushing game. That was
their game plan. That was their entire game plan. So
what's that being said? First question is this, have you
(20:02):
ever had a season where every game was fifty to fifty?
And then second, this is for Cowboys Nation. See I
see a lot of people being mad at Brian Schwanheimer
for how what he's saying in the press conferences. He
can't say anything else. You can't be like, oh my gosh, listen,
I didn't think that Jerry was going to trade my
best player at the beginning of the season. I didn't
think that this defensive coordinator was going to be a
(20:24):
net at putting people in the right position. Because every
time you look at Donovan Wilson and the TV zooms
in on him, he looks confused, and I'm like, why
is he twenty yards off the ball? Donovan Wilson is
a box of safety. That's said, I'm gon, hang up
and listen.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
You have a great guys, All right, Well, I appreciate
that you know that you say that about Donald Wilson
because I do think he is close to line of scrimmags.
The only thing I will say about that turned immediately
to twenty twelve. Twenty twelve was a year they were
eight and eight. I found an eight and eight year
because that's the kind of games you're playing. Thirteen games
will play one score or less, and about eight of
(20:59):
those were three points or less. So that's another season
you look at that finished eight and eight. It's gonna
break real quick on Cowboys storyline. Be right back after this.

Hey, Nick, how's it going good?
Speaker 2 (22:45):
How are you?
Speaker 8 (22:47):
I'm pretty good, considering it was really disheartening on Sunday
to watch how many times for five or more yards
without even being touched this Scott share that stuff up
and then with the pass carde if we can't get there,
I agree with you, man. Let's let's start sending some blitzes.
If we can't cover when we're in protection, we might
(23:10):
as well try to heat up the opposing quarterbacks. A
couple of weeks on there, hopefully we can figure this
thing out, because nobody is running away with the NFC
right now.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
No, definitely not. And uh, all right, thanks for the call.
You know, you do have Washington coming up this week,
and you know, I think blitzing Bryce Young in Carolina,
he's not going anywhere, you know, especially if you blitz
kind of from inside the pocket. He's gonna back up,
back up, and he's gonna throw it away. I mean,
he's not gonna really hurt you that much with his legs.
(23:41):
Jane Daniels certainly can. So you send the house and
you don't get home, or you miss the tackle because
he's a big guy that there's gonna be some problems there.
But you got to take take your chances there. I mean,
you're gonna have to do that because if you just
sit back and I don't know the nature of their injuries,
I know that Terry McLaurin didn't play. I'm always one
(24:04):
to think they they return for the Cowboys. I mean,
that's just the way it always seems to be. I'm
not saying he's returning for the Cowboys, it just just
seems like they usually come back, you know. But Washington
can say the same thing. Oh, of course CD's coming
back this week. Yeah, well he is. He's been being gone.
You know, he's going to be a wide receiver, only
(24:24):
I would imagine, you know, keep him at the receiver spot,
let him run routes, and keep him away from the
line of scrimmage. All right, Irene, False Church, Virginia's next, Irene, Hey.
Speaker 19 (24:34):
Good morning. Okay, one worry and one hope sit the
locker room.
Speaker 6 (24:38):
I'm a little worried on.
Speaker 19 (24:40):
The defensive side of the ball when you hear, Okay,
we're not going to make a change at head coach.
The players have to execute better, which is true, But
you know, I worry about where what happens there in
the rift, and I hope that Shody can intervene and
bridge some sort of gap and at least maybe make
I don't know, some suggestions for players to be put
in better positions. And then I hope watching deyondre Swift
(25:02):
get that pass and run. I really hope we can
actually get Jayden Blue that kind of play instead of
just running up the middle and see if it's speaking
take advantage of that week's defense.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
All right, all right, well you're you're obviously there and
close to uh, Commander country if that's if that's a thing.
But you know a lot of Washington fans there and
they're going to be, you know, pumped up for this one.
And it's always going to be, you know, a good game.
Speaker 4 (25:32):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
And it has been the last few times they've played
and the Cowboys, and they went down to the very
last play both times. I thought the Cowboys outplayed them
twice and and and it was that that made me
think that, you know, I don't know if Washington was
really that good last year. I mean, and that's that's
not a knock on them. They won a lot of
close games and you have to give them credit for that.
(25:53):
But I thought that this might be a season where
they take a step back a little bit. You know,
they caught in a bottle. Go back and look at
some of those games. I mean, even just the loss
to Dallas was like the one few loss that they
had that it was really close. They had some two
point conversions that they made at the last minute and
and and you know that they've kind of played that
way and then they ended up losing one that they
(26:15):
probably shouldn't have, you know, and and you know, Jayden Daniels,
that was a costly fumble for for them and for
my fantasy team. But that's okay, that's all right, I guess.
But that's that's what happens. That's how close these games are.
And this one, that's what Seotty said yesterday. He said,
I can promise you this is going to come down
(26:35):
to the fourth quarter. This one Carolina did we lost.
We got outscored ten three. We lost in the fourth quarter.
This game will come down to the fourth quarter. And
and what do they do? They're all right? Phone lines
are open here on Cowboys storyline on a Tuesday. We
say be quick, be quick, and here we are. The
phone lines are open. Who can get there first? We
do have a text question here from Mike in Boston.
He says, Dak has three years left on his contract.
(26:57):
We need to take advantage of how well he's playing.
All the defense needs to be is middle of the pack.
We have enough talent. I think we could get there.
We need to change the scheme. Have two All Pro corners.
We have serve serviceable array of defensive line. Hopefully Demo
comes back healthy. His window should be opening soon, which
is a twenty one day window, which you know they're
(27:19):
they're hopeful that he can get back. I don't think
he's the answer. I mean, I don't think he's a savior,
is what I'm really I'm trying to say. I think
he's a really good player. I don't think he's the savior.
Though he hasn't played in a while. He's gonna need
to kind of get it going again, so we'll see,
we'll see how he does. But I agree with you, Mike.
I said this a little bit earlier in the show
(27:41):
when I was asked to I think they will make
a trade, and I do think the Cowboys will do
something to go for it here that nobody's running away
from things in the NFC East. You still have the
ability to make the playoffs, and you and and then
you just want to get into the playoffs. I mean
that's the thing. Like you can make all your jokes
(28:03):
if you want to about well what happens to them playoffs?
All I know is that you have a quarterback that's
been there. He'll be his tenth year, and you get
in the dance, anything can happen, especially if you can
be a physical team that could run the ball. They
did not run the ball well Sunday, they didn't. Can
they run the football? Yeah, they can. They can, And
(28:23):
I don't think that they're stopped now from running the football.
I think especially when you put Turpin, you put CD
in there, that's going to be even tougher for teams.
I think, you know, I think if CD's in the game,
I think the Cowboys win that one. I really do.
As well. As Pickens was playing who you know who
on the other side, that would they have tried to cover.
And I think they would have had to change their defense,
(28:44):
and I think that the running game they would have
been more balanced. That's what I think CD and Turpin
will add to this offensive offensive team, and I think
Booker adds that as well. All Right, we got some
callers now, William in West Virginia, William, what's up og?
What's up?
Speaker 7 (28:59):
Og?
Speaker 12 (28:59):
Back in house?
Speaker 9 (29:00):
How are you doing that?
Speaker 2 (29:01):
Good man? How are you?
Speaker 20 (29:02):
I'm hanging in there. Tough game Sunday, but I got
to it.
Speaker 10 (29:06):
It's just I just got to hope the.
Speaker 20 (29:08):
Defense turns it around at some point. Had a couple
of questions for you if you got a second for
first one centers on mil Phil Maffa. I mean, I
know they're down to two backs right now. I really
liked him in pre season. Do you think he could
be brought up anytime soon? And on a defensive note, Harvey.
Speaker 9 (29:25):
Martin I saw was again eligible for.
Speaker 20 (29:27):
The Senior Committee for the Hall of Fame. Do you
think that he finally clears the hurdle this year? Because
I would love to see him at Tooth Dog As
you know how old.
Speaker 5 (29:34):
I remember walking and got in the rhyme.
Speaker 20 (29:36):
So I mean, but you know, I might be starting
your own senior version of the storyline. Start Senior Storyline Group,
I guess. But yeah, I want to get your take
on that.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
All right, appreciate that, you know. I actually you said
that the other day, and I agree with you something
about the Senior Senior Committee for the All Storyline Team.
You know, just like with the Hall of Fame. You know,
you've got your modern era stuff, but then you got
your senior group too. You don't forget about these guys
and and maybe you know, in y'all's case, you don't
(30:06):
call as much or whatever, but but you've been there
from the beginning, and the guys that and girls that
have been there from the beginning. You know, they allowed
us to kind of do shows like this, and and
and they they they've allowed us to have an eight
podcast now just because of the demand is so high.
But it started somewhere, it started early on, and so
(30:27):
I don't I don't think we should ever lose sight
of that. And then speaking of that from a player's standpoint,
Harvey Martin, I've been told this by a voter who
says that never in any conversation that they've ever had
with the voting about a player, has it ever come
(30:48):
up with that team's Ring of honor, hall of fame
or whatever, whether or not they're in there. Because that's
what a lot of fans say. That's what I kind
of say. When I look at Harvey Martin, I'm like,
we's not even in the Ring of Honor. And I
don't know if it's if it's harder to get in
the Ring of Honor, then it is a hall of fame.
And I don't I mean that seriously, Like it's it's
very tough to get in this is your all time
(31:10):
leader in sacks for the first I don't know, forty
five years of the of the franchise, fifty years until
de Waar broke his record. But Harvey Martin, you know,
led the team in sacks, and he was he was
a great player. Not in the Ring of Honor, Everson Wallas,
not in the Ring of honor, Too Tall Jones, those
(31:30):
guys there too, Cornell Green, So you know, I mean,
and I've been told it's never been a factor, but
I still have a hard time believing that. I really don't.
I don't think so. And I think that if they
would go into the Ring of Honor, I think if
it's their name out there more, and I think that
it could help them get in. I truly believe that. Yeah,
I'd like to see Harvey Martin get in, of course,
(31:54):
but you know, Too Tall Jones, all those guys. But
I not to be hypocritical, but I also love of
how exclusive it is, because then when a guy does
get in, it just doesn't feel like all it's his turn,
it's he's really earned something. So kind of it's kind
of hard. It's a tough it's a tough line to
walk there all right, Daveon and Illinois. What's up, Davion?
Speaker 5 (32:16):
What's up? What's going on? Big guy?
Speaker 2 (32:18):
How are you doing?
Speaker 5 (32:18):
Going on? They man trying to recover still, I ain't
gonna lot to see. I was pretty I was pretty
upset Sunday of course, going into the marrow yesterday. So
definitely trying to get myself together. But uh, looking to
try to hopefully get this weekend and maybe we can
get some getback with the Washington Washington team hopefully.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
Yeah, I mean it's going to be a close one.
I mean I think that these are two evenly matched teams.
I really believe that.
Speaker 5 (32:45):
I think there are. But I think we with our defense,
I just don't know if hopefully we can do something
to try to get a get a win, uh basically
get some stops. I think our offense gonna be fine though. Yeah,
and I see last night we can run bow pretty.
I mean the Chicago ranaball they may run about all year,
and they finally they broke out against them boys. So yeah,
(33:07):
maybe we get back to our run game this week,
then I think we'll be fine. Of course, cut down
the turnovers and who we got to do. I know
it's a quick day. So I just just okay, we'll
see all right, but I call back later on this week.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
All right, Davion, appreciate that, thanks for the call. You know,
I said this yesterday's show. I you know that no
turnovers and no sacks allowed. I mean, it's only happened
thirty eight times in Cowboys history. In there now thirty
three and five in those games. I mean, it's a
recipe for wins most of the time. Of those five,
(33:41):
four of them were three three points or less. That
this one was three. The other three were one point
games that the Cowboys lost. The other one the other
game where the Cowboys it's remembered for somebody else. But
the other time that the Cowboys had no sacks allowed
and no turnovers and lost was the ninety eight Thanksgiving
(34:02):
Day game against Randy Moss and the Vikings. That game
was crazy. You know, you don't even think about what
the Cowboys were doing. They scored thirty six points and
moved the ball, but obviously couldn't stop. Randy Moss allly
caught three passes in the game. All of them were
fifty yards touchdowns or more. Right, let's go to a Cowboy, Nico.
He's in Colorado Springs, Nico.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
What's up?
Speaker 17 (34:25):
Nick?
Speaker 2 (34:25):
Harry?
Speaker 3 (34:26):
Hey, so I'm here.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
How are you good?
Speaker 11 (34:29):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (34:29):
Well, so I'm on storyliners now, So the storyliner's team
is about to hear just a different version of passionate
that you guys don't like on this show. So I'll
keep it peg. I have renamed Shoddy. Yes, I have
renamed Shoddy. He is no longer shotty to me or
I can't even say the word because Nick will get mad,
(34:51):
although I have heard a lot of nicknames on the
show since my call in, but his now name is
HD Hebert Blues meets to Go PhD needs to stop
talking about it and actually do it. And I think
this now, talboys see is actually what you are saying.
We are going to make a treat And I can't
(35:11):
believe I'm saying that we are going to do something
because we can't waste Dak Gretscott doing a week doing
if you just can't, like you said, I totally one
hundred percent agree with you. I also believe that a
lot of people don't like how I think on this
show because just like my prisoners when I worked in
the prison, they don't like the cold heart truth so
(35:32):
I would say to you this day, I speak like
Jesse Hawley. I'm very open and blunt about it, and
I don't hide it. I am sad, I am mad,
I am frustrated. I am an upset. You don't play
this theme to not win a championship. When I was
fighting in NNA, I didn't get in the cage to
get a trophy for getting in the cage. I got
(35:52):
in the cage to fight. Now, Dallas do something.
Speaker 15 (35:55):
We're in the gate.
Speaker 6 (35:56):
Let's go Cowboys, all right, all right, n.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
No, it was in the m m A. But uh,
that's a that's a different kind of animal right there.
I mean, I would think you gotta be you gotta
be a different level of crazy. I mean that respectfully,
because just to get in there and and do the
do that is I wouldn't know anything about it. However,
(36:23):
you're right, I mean yeah, I mean, this is this team.
They do need to do something. They're not bad. This
isn't a bad football team.
Speaker 9 (36:31):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (36:32):
It's a bad defense. It's a bad defense, but it's
it's it's maybe the best offense in the NFL. And
to go through the amount of injuries this team has
has seen on offense and still put up this many yards,
this many you know, this many points. It's a it's
an unbelievably good offense and it's a bad defense. And
(36:56):
and that that's very normal if you've if you've studied
the state over the years, it's very normal. What I
always look at when I look at the stats, they
have this this this category where it says like offensive rank,
defensive rank overall. A lot of times it's number one
and thirty one, and that's mainly because of yards allowed.
(37:17):
You're scoring a lot of points, then you're giving up
a lot and then these games are shootouts. The team,
the best teams are the ones that you look at
that says six four and you know, and and the
six the offense fourth of the that's a really good team.
That's what I think you strive for. That's not what
this is. This The Cowboys are either thirties or first
(37:39):
or thirty second depending on the points. But whether it
be points allowed, yards allowed, past defense, they're at the bottom.
They're at the top over here. My point is is
that if they can fix something on defense just enough,
and maybe it's a move that's made, maybe it's a scheme,
maybe it's all of the above, then I think this
thing can can get better. Believe that. All right, let's
(38:01):
go back to Atlanta for a repeat. Gee, what's up?
Speaker 9 (38:08):
What's up baby double Dipper in today?
Speaker 2 (38:09):
Man, I'm gonna call you the double g.
Speaker 9 (38:14):
So turfing Man. I don't think people understand how much
of a weapon he is. I think our return park
return kit returns have been abysinal since he's been gone,
and that will we are just scoring a lot of points,
but I think our point production has gone down just
a little bit because we don't have Turpan back there
(38:34):
to give us that great field digion either.
Speaker 11 (38:36):
Man.
Speaker 9 (38:36):
So can you do you know where we have dropped
down to since he's been gone?
Speaker 2 (38:42):
And and what what ranking are you talking about there?
Speaker 9 (38:45):
What like Parker Return Kit return?
Speaker 2 (38:49):
I I don't have those those numbers. I don't I know.
No one's made a play. I mean I know that
now Jaydon Blue had what decent return against the Jets
thirty yards? Maybe it was a good It was a
good play. Looked like it. You know, there was a
crease there and but but it's catching the ball. I mean,
it's it's lining up right, catching it, catching the knuckleballs,
(39:12):
the ground balls. Uh, that's that's a that's the key.
And Jalen Cropper has been here for a while, you know,
I just he's not the answer to me. So no,
I think I think field position is huge, and I
think that that's something that has been missed a big.
Speaker 20 (39:28):
Time without turpingh Yeah, absolutely absolutely.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
And and also he's a threat. I mean, like you
just you see Cropper back there, you see Blue whoever
you see Jayalen Tolber, just punt the ball, go and
go cover it. But with Tropping, I think, well, let's
anglet here. And then sometimes when you do, you shank
it out of bounds or or you don't kick it right.
So I think he gets in their head a little bit.
And I think he's just another weapon for sure.
Speaker 9 (39:52):
All all right, thanks.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
Double double G for all all that. Like man, I
called and called and didn't get in. This guy got
in twice. I don't think the lines there is I
mean I think they're they're pretty open today. I think
you have opportunities today. Bruce and Houston got one. Bruce
is in there. What's up? Bruce?
Speaker 12 (40:11):
Hey?
Speaker 7 (40:12):
Nick, thanks for the call. You know, I was frustrated
as well. With the defense, especially after they played okay
against Green Bay and then looked pretty good against the Jets,
so you you were thinking, Okay, maybe they're they're finally
getting eber Flus's defense down mentally. And I know that's
why he brought Enborn over because he knew his defense.
But you know, my question to you is, if he
(40:35):
don't change something, he's gonna he's gonna fire himself. I
writ an article that talked about him being hired technically
before Shott he was and and and I'm because I
just wish Jerry would flit the head coach pick his staff.
You know we've done that so many different times in
(40:56):
the back with in the past with Jason Garrett. You know,
he fill ups those kinds of things. But do you
know if he does get fired, I mean, yeah, I
don't think he's going to do it now, But if
he does, do you have you heard any names? Is
there anybody on the staff that could because I don't.
I don't think it's a scheme. I think it's the players.
(41:17):
You're paying those two corners to top dollar but play and.
Speaker 2 (41:22):
The Bruce, but you're paying them to do what to
cover right, to cover they're not and they're they're not
allowed to do that. They're they're they're not covering, they're
playing zone. They're playing with their eyes. That's not what
you're paying Trayvon Diggs and so and all I'm saying
is that you say you don't think it's the scheme.
You think it's the players. Maybe in certain tills, but
(41:44):
in the cornerback position, they're not getting they're not doing
what they were paid to do. And that's just cover
their guy.
Speaker 7 (41:51):
And that's and that's well because of our linebacker crew
that that he has to go to that zone. But
he's got to change because you know, you can't be
putting the square peg in a round hole forever, you know,
beating your head against the wall. But talk a little
bit who would replace him? And then if you do,
you're basically saying the hell with the season. And then
(42:13):
don't use your draft picks, man, because if they keep
losing like they are, then they need every one of
those picks to get the defense better. And I know
a rookie first round may not be able to do that,
but I don't think they're going to resign Diggs. So
they're going to their first pick is going to need
to be a cornerback and maybe a linebacker with the
Packers pick. I don't know, but talk about that if
(42:34):
you can, and I'll hang up and listen.
Speaker 2 (42:35):
Talk to you later about it, all right, Thanks, I
appreciate it. Yeah, I mean who on the staff? I mean, like,
what position group would you say this guy needs to
be the coordinator? You know, the guys that's coaching the
D line and the pass rush. No, the linebacker, no,
your defensive back no. So I mean that's the problem
(42:57):
is is where they are is like who? Sometimes a
different voice is better, you know, I get that. I
mean I know you know I've heard I've heard that
before and I agree with it. You know, just a
just a different voice. Anybody that's a parent understands that
they might say the same thing to their kids ten
(43:19):
times and they don't ever, they don't ever really care
in one ear out the other. Then all of a sudden,
their teacher says that or something at school and they're like,
oh my god, I can't believe that, Like, yeah, I've
been saying that for or their basketball coach or whatever.
You're like, yeah, a different sometimes, a different voice is
all that you need. So I I just think I
think that they should go. I think they should do
(43:40):
everything they can right now to try to get this
get this thing going. Uh, change the scheme a little bit,
alter some things here and there, maybe add a player
or to figure it out, because it's too good on
the one side of the ball to let it to
let it go. You have a you have a shot,
get in the get in the playoffs. Figure out a
way to get in the playoffs, and see what this
offense can do. All right, let's go one more caller here,
(44:02):
Josh in Chicago.
Speaker 21 (44:03):
Josh, not too bad. I didn't get to make it
to the game the other day. I didn't get into
like one in the morning, so my flights were all
the way and jacked up. I couldn't make it. But yeah,
I know, right, that's how I felt afterwards. The biggin
thing I want to say is I kind of wonder
about the approach to this team. You know, during the
week Wednesday through Friday, how much they're actually getting into it,
(44:25):
especially on the defense with the misques that seemed to
keep happening. Is this more of a preparation thing or
is it you know, mix of everything. Uh, that's kind
of what I've been thinking about. Yeah, I'd love to
get your take on that.
Speaker 2 (44:38):
Yeah, I think it's I think they are trying to
figure out thanks for the call, They're trying to figure
out their identity a little bit here and and now
you know what you are offensively, and that's that's a
good thing. But defensively, you know, I'm not I'm not
giving anybody a pass here. But but this scheme of
(45:00):
when he got here, when ibra Flus got here, and
what he was trying to do is, Okay, we're gonna
get after the quarterback. We're gonna get after the quarterback
with what we have because we have the best pass
rusher in the league, and we got some other guys
that we think are really good too, so we're gonna
be able to get that done. We signed Osa, We're
gonna be fine. And then back we're gonna play the
scheme the way it is. And then they trade Micah,
(45:21):
and everyone thought it was gonna happen until it traded.
Until you was traded, everyone thought this was gonna be
the thing, and it wasn't. So now now that it's
taken six games, but six games is long enough to
know it's not working. You have to to shuffle the
deck here a little bit and figure out some things
on defense to do better. All right, one more break
here on Cowboys storyline. Be right back after this.

Commanders this week, trying to get back to five hundred.
There are two, three and one the Cowboys are and
take it on a Washington team that there was two
entertaining games last year and there's no doubt about it
went down to the wire. And Turpin comes back this week.
(47:23):
You should be back this week in Washington doesn't want
to see that, especially after the ninety nine yards spinning
kickoff return for a touchdown. But they need him in
the return game. They need Ceedee Lamb back in the
on offense, of course, and Turpin as well. Booker there
those three guys are expected to play. We'll see how
they practice this week, but there's a good chance they
could play and that could change a lot for this
(47:44):
Cowboys offense because we know what the defense is looking like.
The offense could be a lot better and those guys
you know could help them get there because they're going
to have to outscore teams. We know that, all right.
It's been a fun show. We appreciate all the callers
here on Cowboys Storyline presented by We Will see you
next time on Cowboys Storyline.
