and broadcasting live from Dallas Cowboys World headquarters at the Star.
Now your host, Nicole Hutchison, Wake.
Speaker 4 (00:33):
Up, Cowboys Nation.
Speaker 5 (00:34):
Welcome to a Girls Star Boys Talk presented by invisil
Line in the SWBC studio. I'm Nicole Hutcheson alongside Brianna
Audre je Ayisha Morrison.
Speaker 6 (00:41):
Ladies, Good morning, we got up morning. I gotta do it.
Week fifteen. Yeah, crazy times, we excited, crazy times.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
The must win game, it's a big deal. Yeah, it's
an important game.
Speaker 7 (00:56):
Wow.
Speaker 6 (00:56):
I'm gonnaed y'all wake up this morning. We need some
more energy.
Speaker 5 (00:59):
Cowboys have a chance to bounce back. Of course you
already talked about it. They had a little help with Philly,
and we're not gonna talk about it because you already did.
But they have a Minnesota Vikings team that they have
coming into Sunday Night Football.
Speaker 6 (01:13):
Of course, they're in a must need win situation as well. Philly.
Speaker 5 (01:16):
We've been saying that all season long, but it's getting real.
You look at this offense, because we are focusing on
Vikings offense Cowboys defense, you look at this Minnesota Vikings
offense and it seems.
Speaker 6 (01:27):
Like they ain't really figured stuff out.
Speaker 5 (01:31):
Of course, they kind of bounce back against the Washington Commanders,
but to me, I don't feel like that's a true
measuring stick of where this team is. But you look
at this offense where they are right now twenty eighth
and total yards twenty eighth and total yards per game
twenty fourth and rushing yards per game not necessarily numbers.
Speaker 6 (01:52):
Wise one of the best. But what would you say?
Speaker 5 (01:54):
This identity looks like underweight West Phillips right.
Speaker 6 (01:58):
Now for the Viking.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
I mean, they're an offense that really is trying to
be balanced. You see a lot of the similar concepts
as you saw with Dallas last year with Mike McCarthy,
some of those West Coast concepts. I guess I would
say their identity is that they want to be balanced.
But if they cannot find the balance, like in running
the game, running the ball, and passing the ball, they
(02:22):
will lean on passing the ball. And I think that's
where a lot of JJ McCarthy's interceptions come from, yeah,
what's good.
Speaker 6 (02:28):
Yeah, I would kind of agree with that.
Speaker 8 (02:29):
They're I think having a young quarterback is foreseeing Kevin
O'Connell to go away from what he actually likes to do,
and I think that's what you've been seeing with some
of these terrible statistics and even going off this big game,
big win. Kind of what Nicole said, it's hard measuring stick.
I don't think it's just you feel like that listening
to Vikings radio, well like they feel like the same
(02:52):
as that too. You know, they're not trying to even
though thirty one zero it's great, but it's also you're
looking at a commander's team who's lost what now what
eight in a row, So it's kind of hard to
say that they got things fixed. But there is a
light at the end of the tunnel for them because
they just wanted to see something from their young QB
one hundred and sixty three passing yards. It's normally not
(03:13):
something you typically celebrate and bring out the flags, but
they kind of, you know, this is a this is
good for them because that's how bad it's been. There's
some crazy statistics with their run game. I know we'll
get into it in a few but they're running backs
from week four to ten combined couldn't combine for twenty
(03:34):
carries between their two one two punch, which is crazy.
But what was different last week is that they were
able to heavily rely on their run game and they
just kept with it because the Commanders literally had no answer.
So again, is that because their run game was good
and their old line was doing their job or was
that just because the Commander has that bad of a defense.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
So yeah, it's interesting because when you look at their
offensive line, like, obviously they've kind of been in limbo
and they've been through a lot of rotation. But as
I looked into the film, like this isn't a bad unit,
I guess like the only weak points on that offensive
line are really the guards, but they do get a good.
Speaker 9 (04:09):
Amount of interior push.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
I think that their tackles have been struggling, similar to
Dallas where they're you know, but their right tackle I
think is played better.
Speaker 6 (04:19):
They're confusing.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
Yeah, I can't remember what team that we watched or
that the Cowboys played a while ago, and we were saying, like,
they don't look they're not as bad as what their
record is.
Speaker 6 (04:29):
Maybe it was Arizona.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
To me, this is a Minnesota in similar ways. Is
that when you start looking at their units and the
players they have and all these things, you would expect
for their run game as you were mentioning bring, you
would expect for their run game to be more efficient
with how you're looking at the guys some of the
run concepts. But it just hasn't been there for them
consistently this year. So they were a confusing watch to me.
Speaker 5 (04:53):
Yeah, and when you look back, I listened to Purple Daily,
their daily podcast over there in minnesot So, and it
sounds like they kind of just got away from what
they were working on in terms of the concepts in
training camp. So I'm not sure what happened there at
the start of the season where they just said, all right,
let's just go away from what we're working on or whatever,
(05:14):
But apparently that's what happened. But Brion made a good
point about the run game. Last week, they ran the ball,
of course, twenty three times for one hundred and one
rushing yards with their running backs.
Speaker 6 (05:25):
That was a season high.
Speaker 5 (05:27):
So yeah, they haven't really had a good opportunity to
be efficient in the run game. What do you feel
is the biggest threat from that Minnesota Vikings team.
Speaker 6 (05:35):
I shall go back to you.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
To me, I think it's going to be that receiving corps.
You know, like, don't get it twisted. You know, like
Justin Jefferson had one of his least amount of yarders
I want to say last week in a game that
he's had in his career. I want to say, was
it eleven yards or something like that. I mean, he
was pretty quiet last week. But you know, they do
have more than one guy. They obviously have, Yeah, they
(06:02):
already have Addison. They also have what Decian almost name
a nailor who's kind of their speed guy. They have
some guys obviously, uh Hockinson, Like, they have a good
receiver corps and guys that can really get after it
if this quarterback has time. So really that's probably my
(06:22):
biggest worry because Dallas has done decently stopping the run
on the ground.
Speaker 9 (06:27):
What they've struggled with are the running backs that.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Can redo receiving things, which Aaron Jones is somebody that
can do that. So they struggle with that, and they've
also struggled with speedy receivers and this receiver corps has
a lot of speed and they haven't really been able
to show it off like that, but as frequently as
I'm sure as they want it. But I'm sure after
(06:50):
watching that film last week with the Lions, that the
Vikings are looking at the Dallas secondary and thinking that
maybe they can take advantage in certain areas.
Speaker 6 (06:58):
Were you talking about run game, are you talking about
just in general?
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (07:01):
Yeah, I think I brought up what Christy said yesterday
about the tight ends because I was listening again to
Vikings radio and Kevin O'Connell was talking about, you know,
they were like you all the passing touchdowns went to
tight ends last week? Was there was that scheme was
at that and he was just basically saying that, you know,
(07:22):
with the checkdown, you you want that extra option, and
it was there every time. And so that's where they
went obviously, and they also saw advantages that they could
take advantage from the commander side of things as well.
But I think the littlest thing, which is kind of
the biggest thing, ironically, JJ McCarthy has been struggling.
Speaker 6 (07:41):
Coach said to simply literally just.
Speaker 8 (07:44):
Being balanced and aligning his feet so he's just kind
of launching this ball and he's like, he's not taking
that one two extra steps. But you saw that differently
in this game, and he talked about him still wanting
him to It's like he doesn't know he has a
little tick of a second left, so he's going to
the first thing he sees, which is your tight ends.
(08:06):
So when I look at a Dallas team who is
struggling on that second level, who has typically struggled against
the bigger tight ends, when even going back to the Raiders,
they had one guy they had to slow down and
he was, you know, Boubers was giving them trouble to
think that he's got three of them that he hit
last week. I don't if it. If it's not broke,
(08:26):
don't fix it, right. So I wouldn't go against them
trying that, especially when you're talking about a linebacker corps
who's for Dallas is struggling, and then again the speedsters,
I feel like justin Jefferson is obviously the number one.
Speaker 6 (08:41):
He's won, making all the money.
Speaker 8 (08:43):
The low targets that he's gotten is I don't know
where that comes from or why they're not hitting him,
But I just feel like.
Speaker 6 (08:50):
Every time a team comes to Dallas, they figure it out.
Speaker 8 (08:53):
So that would what would scare me the most if
they're able to get this run gate going. But I
have a little of confidence for some reason about Dallas
because I feel like, again if you look at what
they've done for like seven straight weeks, they couldn't do
anything with this run game. I don't know if that's
going to be the issue against Dallas. I'm more worried
about what they do at that second level and how
(09:14):
they might expose our dbs who struggled a little bit
last week, And what I saw was kind of more
so they like to get the ball out quick a
little bit, much more like short game that they like
to do.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
And his his first read is always Jalen.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
I'm going to get this name wrong, but I'm gonna Naylor.
Speaker 6 (09:31):
It looks like sailor with Naylor.
Speaker 9 (09:35):
Yeah, Jalen Naylor.
Speaker 5 (09:38):
He's He's consistently been his first read, which, again, debris point,
I'm not sure why because you have one of the
best receivers in the NFL on your roster, but apparently,
like it just seems like from Purple Daily as well,
they can't get the ball. He can't get the ball
deep because he's a quarterback of course, who battled a
injury last year and still trying to think too much
(09:58):
a little bit working on his mechanics, and I ushuld
how difficult is that when you are one a quarterback
trying to still think at the same time too much
on your mind and still try to make figure stuff out.
Speaker 6 (10:09):
He's just a nugget.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
I mean, if this is something that he's gonna have
to take time, I mean throwing with anticipation. Some guys
got it, some guys don't, you know, the clock in
his head being sped up.
Speaker 6 (10:19):
Borre.
Speaker 4 (10:19):
You make a fantastic point, and with something that I
actually wrote down in my notes is that there are
times in the pocket where he is kept clean and
it's almost like it's too long. If I'm not mistaken.
The Vikings are what are they?
Speaker 6 (10:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (10:32):
Their offensive line is seventh and average time to throw
which is seventh, well, three point zero seven seconds again,
so that's what I'm saying, Like this off of the
line not bad, It's very confusing. Anyway, last week, you know,
he didn't have as much time to throw a two
point five six sevenths two point five six seconds, where's
the average time for him to throw? But I do
(10:54):
think he does get happy feet. I do think that
there are times where he kind of rush the process.
There are plays opening up downfield for him and he
takes the check down at That was something I noticed
last week as well, Bree, is that.
Speaker 6 (11:08):
He really got Ben Simms.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
Their second tight end involved kind of just sitting in
zones and sitting underneath and then if Hockinson was available
coming across the field, he would take advantage that. But
to answer your question, to call it's difficult because you know,
they have to trust, Like you said, they have to
trust their mechanics. The mechanics have to be clean every time.
One thing that stood out to me watching Justin Herbert
the other day was to fight the fact despite the
(11:32):
fact that he was injured. You saw him climb the
pocket with his feet and it just looked correct, like
he didn't look out of sync and things like that,
And I think that's why, even though the protection for
him was so poor, he was still able to make
some plays and not make a whole bunch of bad
decisions with the ball in his hand. But for a
young quarterback, I think this is his what he's played
(11:53):
seven games. Yeah this year, you know, he just nugget,
you know, So he still has so much to learn.
You see this in the interceptions. Five of them have
come for the middle of the field. That's a young
that's a young quarterback thing. That's something that young quarterbacks
struggle with. So if he's kept clean, yeah, he can
do his thing. He's still learning how to improvise, which
(12:13):
I think that's something we see Dak Prescott do really well,
is the improvising, the climb in the pocket, that doing
all that stuff. No, he feels pressure. He's scrambling. He's scrambling,
and that's why he's fourth in scrambles in the NFL
because he's going early.
Speaker 6 (12:26):
Like you said, let me tell you his own improvise
if you want to, Yeah, don't do it.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
It's kinda gonna be back.
Speaker 6 (12:31):
That looks Klina gonna be back up.
Speaker 5 (12:34):
No, literally, Dallas twenty nine sacks. Twenty nine sacks this
season or one in the NFL in hurries, also QB
knockdowns and also pressures.
Speaker 6 (12:45):
Wow does that sound great?
Speaker 4 (12:47):
It does beautiful, But it's so frustrating because it's like
the problem with the pressure, Like all those things are good,
but these guys don't have enough time to get home
all the time because of some of the stuff you're
doing on the back end.
Speaker 6 (12:58):
But we're not going to please please sor right.

Speaker 5 (15:59):
Vikings run game being underutilized?
Speaker 6 (16:03):
I think so. I think so.
Speaker 4 (16:06):
I went and looked at their I mean both.
Speaker 6 (16:09):
Of their backs are interesting.
Speaker 4 (16:11):
They also have Ham who's their full backslash running back,
kind of how Cathy coylways use Lifkey. He's been there
for he's been there for quite a while, and he
exudes a lot of power coming out of the backfield,
kind of lead blocking for them. Mason is someone that
runs with a crap town of power. He's a downhill runner.
(16:32):
I mean, I was looking at Aaron Jones. I would
describe him in this point in his career as like,
I hope this is the right word, but he's more bouncy.
Speaker 9 (16:40):
You see him, you know, really.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
Trying to figure out, like find the hole and try
to be patient and stuff. But there's when you look
at both of them, they both have popping their legs.
They both have like you can tell they have juice
to really let go. And this offensive line is not bad.
Speaker 9 (16:57):
Now.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
Darrisaw still, like I said talking about yesterday, he's still
coming back from that ACL injury. He's still trying to
get his bards under him. I don't think he can
anchor and be as powerful as he was before. But
I'm just disappointed in their run game. I'm looking at
their offensive line. I'm like, this offensive line doesn't suck.
Speaker 9 (17:16):
It don't.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
It doesn't suck. This is a decent unit, and I
think the numbers tell you that as it pertains to
his time to throw and things like that. And then
so to your point, and also too, I feel like
it's being underutilized because you got a young quarterback, you know,
to put so much pressure on him to have to
pass the ball is I don't know. It's kind of
(17:38):
odd to me, but so you ask your question, I
do think it's being underutilized, and maybe this is a
game that they decide to just do it, even though
Dallas has been decently stout against the run. I just
I don't understand what they got going on personally.
Speaker 6 (17:51):
That's fair.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
I think their lines better than what they they're giving
it credit for.
Speaker 6 (17:55):
That's fair.
Speaker 8 (17:55):
And I know Aaron Jones he started the season on
IR he did so that looking at the stats, I'm like, Okay,
maybe they just took them a little time to kind
of figure it out, because they did have some games
when he returned where both of them talking about Jordan
Mason and Aaron Jones, who kind of was the number
one guy while Aaron Jones was out, They had like
(18:16):
but it was just like they weren't getting the ball,
like it wasn't like. So, I don't know if it's
something where it's like and we've seen Dallas do it
a little bit some games where it's like they try it,
it's not working and they just go away from it.
Speaker 6 (18:27):
But like for a but then I feel like they
eventually get back to it.
Speaker 8 (18:30):
It might not be that quarter or even that half,
but they get back to it. It's like the Vikings
never get back to it.
Speaker 6 (18:35):
But I think.
Speaker 8 (18:36):
The the kind of the argument is from Vikings Nation,
if you will, is like, Okay, let's take they we
don't care how bad commanders looked. Let's just focus on
what was working on our side, and that was the
run game, and that was running fifty five percent of
our snaps run game.
Speaker 9 (18:55):
That's all.
Speaker 6 (18:56):
They didn't go away from it.
Speaker 8 (18:58):
So it doesn't make sense for a team who, yes, statistically,
like we said yesterday, that little small chance is still.
Speaker 6 (19:04):
In the playoffs.
Speaker 8 (19:05):
But they're trying to they should be, in my opinion,
trying to build for the future. They finally got something
from JJ McCarthy that says, hey, this could be the future. Right,
simple mechanic things came into play. No, he's not or
hasn't shown he can be the guy who's gonna just
launch the ball and be just threats and that may
(19:29):
come with time. Someone compared him to Caleb Williams, which
I thought was interesting because if you remember Caleb Williams
in the beginning of the season with the mistakes, not
like his sense of play and the strengths, but he
kind of looked a hot mess in the beginning and
this was just the beginning of the season.
Speaker 6 (19:47):
They were able and he's still.
Speaker 8 (19:48):
You know, making some mistakes, but even his improvement from
last year to this year taking care of the football.
Speaker 6 (19:54):
Well, McCarthy's been injured. He's really a rookie. Yeah, he's
a nugget.
Speaker 4 (19:59):
He missed a lot of the season last year with
the mcl s fran and then and now the ankle.
This year he was out with the concussion.
Speaker 6 (20:06):
So t your ai, I totally agree.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
Is like maybe they are just still, unfortunately, trying to
get into a rhythm of things, getting guys back and
trying to get guys accustom of things. Now, do you
ladies believe that the confidence that they got in the
run game last week? Now, they told they told the
commanders up everybody. I could not believe the interior push
that they got on that commander's defensive interior. You know,
(20:29):
we've we've known that defensive interior to be strong for years.
Speaker 9 (20:33):
I mean, the rest of the team could.
Speaker 4 (20:34):
Be horrible, yeah, but they still had an interior that
could like that could really attack at the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 6 (20:42):
But I just.
Speaker 9 (20:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (20:45):
Do you think that they're gonna decide to.
Speaker 9 (20:46):
Try to run the ball?
Speaker 4 (20:47):
You think they have some confidence and they're like, okay.
Speaker 9 (20:49):
Well absolutely, okay, Well.
Speaker 8 (20:51):
They're gonna try it, and they do have a be
that is part of their run game or can be.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
You know, he can scramble what that's what. That's one
thing I wrote down is yeah, he's fourth and scrambles
with twelve this year. But he I saw him last
week do a better job of feeling the pressure and
stepping up in the pocket.
Speaker 6 (21:10):
He'll slip through the A and B gap.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
So this is something did you mentioned earlier? Your linebackers
and stuff have to be ready for. But yeah, he's
not super fast, but he is a guy that he
got some little wheels and he will take third down
opportunities and stuff. If he doesn't see an opportunity to
throw the ball or he'll rush you like you're yeah.
Speaker 6 (21:28):
I will say, if Dallas.
Speaker 8 (21:30):
Can't find a way to take advantage of the weaknesses
of Jaj McCarthy, I will have worries. I don't care
what the rest of the season looks like. I will
have worries because this is a QB who literally just
got a little bit of spark of confidence, right doesn't
outside of last week. He doesn't have great bas security.
He's just showed a glimpse.
Speaker 6 (21:51):
That he can kind of read these defenses.
Speaker 8 (21:55):
But still, like you're talking about a QB that coaches
like he to do simple things like just get his
feet set, like it's one two steps. So I'm hoping
we see the Dallas seasons that we saw in the
first series of last week where I was hyped up,
you know, like they came out hot and looked like
they were going to do some damage and then they
(22:16):
did not. But again, I hope this is a day
where they can eat and they can bring the pressure,
and they can get home and just clean up and
kind of take take out what they didn't do against
the Lions, against the Vikings.
Speaker 6 (22:31):
That would be very nice, y'all. Remember what Aaron Droones
did to the Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
I know, I don't want to deal with him.
Speaker 5 (22:37):
He has nine touchdowns against the Cowboys, eighty three attempts,
four hundred and eighty eight yards.
Speaker 6 (22:42):
Yeah, he come home to Texas.
Speaker 9 (22:45):
We know Aaron pass and all that stuff.
Speaker 6 (22:47):
But could he come home to Texas.
Speaker 4 (22:49):
And he'd be like, ooh, this is my old stumping
Trams and he just go nuts every time.
Speaker 6 (22:54):
And like they all do that. Well.
Speaker 4 (22:56):
One thing that is concerning to me is when I
look at their running back corps, I say, okay.
Speaker 6 (23:01):
Will they use him sometimes?
Speaker 9 (23:02):
You know the lead block, They'll slip them into the flats.
It's just like an extra option.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
They will use Mason, who I think does run with power.
And then they also too Aaron Jones. One thing that
he is able to do. I don't know how much
they use it. This is a receiving running back. There's
another running back that can do receiving things that can
catch the ball out the backfield. Not as good of
a rout runner and stuff as Jamior Gibbs.
Speaker 6 (23:27):
But will they try.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
To find favorable matchups?
Speaker 2 (23:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (23:30):
They did, they did try the last week.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
Are they gonna try to find favorable matchups with your linebackers. Again,
as a matter of fact, I mean Gibbs was getting
lined up against corners. Jesus please, But that's something that
concerns me when it comes to Aaron Jones. It's not
just the rushing, it is the ability that he has
to catch the ball. Dallas has not defended the middle
of the field that well this year. This team likes
(23:52):
to really attack the middle of the field.
Speaker 5 (23:54):
Who specifically you talk about favorable matchups for the Vikings, right,
who specifically would be a favorite ruable favorable matchup for
them when you're talking about Aaron Jones for them?
Speaker 6 (24:05):
Yeah, for them?
Speaker 8 (24:07):
Makes who you want, Like, who would you attack if
you are if you are the Vikings with Aaron Jones, Mary,
I wasn't say it depends who they have out there,
but it sounded like we talked about yesterday and to
call that Schotneimer was basically saying the Murray Wilson thing
ain't It's not going nowhere. So yep, I guess so, Mary, Yeah,
(24:30):
nothing being tied for fumbles lost, yeah, yes, seven Yeah, Yeah,
they're believe Minnesota is a head of wotten down sorry,
Minnesota is a thirtieth in YEP thirtieth at minus twelve
and turnovers differential. By the way, Also, Dallas ranks twenty
(24:51):
ninth in NFL turnover different I don't want to see
what we saw, what we better after making fun of
what Philly was doing.
Speaker 6 (24:57):
Please, I don't. I hope nothing comes back to hommie.
Speaker 4 (25:00):
Well, I'm scared we're gonna talk about am But bron
Flores is you know, he little when it comes to
the things he does defensively, So that's a whole nother story.
Speaker 6 (25:08):
But yeah, yeah.
Speaker 5 (25:10):
When you talk about who who, how does Matty refuse
need to play?
Speaker 6 (25:14):
Or what coverages do you.
Speaker 5 (25:15):
Want to see when you're talking about defending a Vikings offense?
Speaker 4 (25:19):
For the love of muffins, Okay, got it?
Speaker 6 (25:23):
Please? Please what defense is that? Please? Please, I'm trying
to take notes.
Speaker 4 (25:28):
Please please do not allow these gentlemen to just have
free releases off the line of scrimmen. Please give your
past Russia opportunity to actually get to the quarterback and
at least technique wise, if you are gonna play zone,
that's fine, but at least technique wise, let's make sure
that these guys are redirecting defender the defender that their
(25:48):
communication is cleaner, because again, they have guys on the
back end that will run past you. Both all of them,
almost every single one of them, have speed. And that
stands out to me is how bad Dallas struggled last
week with the speed of the Lions. But it wasn't
even just because the speed is because you are allowing
(26:10):
them so much space off the line of scrimmage. You're
not affecting them at all. So that I listen, I
don't care. Listen, I don't care if Dallas decided to
do cover too, I don't care what it is. Redirect
the defender. Put your hands on somebody. Do not let
these running backs just do whatever the hell they want
to you.
Speaker 6 (26:30):
I can't take it.
Speaker 9 (26:31):
So that's that's what I'm gonna ask for.
Speaker 4 (26:32):
Please tackle more sound and try to affect the receivers
at the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 9 (26:37):
Stop just letting them run past you.
Speaker 8 (26:38):
I was listening to when I was listening to some
analysts about what went right for Vikings, and they were like,
it was surprising from the commander's side how far their
corners were playing off the ball in so much space.
Speaker 6 (26:51):
They were giving and they were taking advantage. And the
first thing I thought of was your heart dropped. They
played a.
Speaker 8 (26:58):
Lot, They played a lot of zone, and to your point,
they gave him a lot of space and they didn't
make adjustments, and they gave me a little bit of
He ain't up.
Speaker 9 (27:10):
That zone last week.
Speaker 4 (27:11):
Like people can say what they want to say, but
like JJ McCarthy read, he read the defense. He took
what the defense gave him. He didn't force much, he
allowed his receivers to sit in the zones. He delivered
the ball on time. Like I thought, you made a
really good point earlier in Nicole talk about how much
quick game is involved in their their their offense, but
this is an offense also too.
Speaker 6 (27:32):
It's like he will.
Speaker 9 (27:34):
Throw the ball downfield.
Speaker 4 (27:35):
It's not something that you see as consistently, I'm sure
as what they want. But he's nineteenth in Big Time
throws with thirteen and he's only played seven games, so
I know saying that he's nineteenth, it is like, okay, whatever,
but he's only played seven games, so they'll let you know.
He got a rocket, y'all. He's not afraid to throw
the ball downfield. And so I'm nervous about not only
(27:56):
their quick game, but if they can block it up,
which I think is in some instance as they might
be able to. If he's clean, he would throw the
ball downfield.
Speaker 5 (28:03):
Yeah, and they were able to drive the length of
the field on a couple of drives against Washington. And
so when you talk about special teams, when you talk
about turnovers.
Speaker 6 (28:14):
Please improve in that area when you talk special teams.
I know we have briefly talked about it a little bit,
a Usha, What in the world is going on, Dallas Cowboys.
We relived it a little bit yesterday. We did just
a little bit.
Speaker 8 (28:32):
Christie was talking about CJ being one of the only
people that talked, and you know, we talked about uh.
Speaker 6 (28:41):
But not great coverage leverage a Schoenheimer. You don't remember this, Yeah, okay, it's.
Speaker 5 (28:46):
Fine, a bit, all right, Well, they allowed last week
re lines to average start starting field position average about the.
Speaker 6 (28:54):
Forty one forty two year old line. Not good at all. Good.
Speaker 5 (29:00):
Yeah, let's talk about it because the Cowboys defense has
had to you know, which is I don't think it's
talking about a lot talked about a lot, is the
fact that the Cowboys defense has had to defend basically
from half field on every possession. So how much does
that play a role into this matchup as well?
Speaker 4 (29:18):
I mean it's important. I mean when you even look
at like their kickoff return averages, I mean, Dallas is
twenty fifth and the average returns that they're getting the
Vikings are twelfth. It's just I'm not gonna sit at
par and say that it's just been horrible, but it
has not been as clean as what you would expect,
and we talked about it at nauseum. It's just the
(29:39):
loss of bones fossil on what that really has meant
to this team. But what scares me also too, like
is their returner. I mean their returner I believe is
what is this gentleman's name. He's speedy as heck, like
I've seen him. Oh it's his name, Miles Price out
of Indiana. He's a smaller framed guy, but he's able
(30:01):
to kind of slip through some of the cracks. And
one thing that you saw last week with Dallas in
punk coverage is that Dallas was trying to kind of
squeeze and get up on Detroit, you know, as they
were coming down the field on returns and Detroit's returners
were just slipping through where Dallas was trying to kind
of funnel to each other.
Speaker 9 (30:22):
Yea, and I mean this is.
Speaker 4 (30:24):
A guy that can do that as well, Like, this
is a guy that you know can also get he
has he has a twelve hundred and sixty two yards
on kickoffs this year. It's not a little bit of
yard Like this is a decent returner. This is a
guy that can get after his long being sixty one yards.
I'm hoping that Dallas is able to play better punk coverage.
I know that you are allocating resources elsewhere and things
(30:46):
like that, but this is just you can't have with
an offense that has, you know, with the Vikings that's
kind of struggled to find balance and stuff. They are
coming off a game where they find some confidence. I'm
hoping that Dallas can come out and put themselves in
better position to force them to have to drive the
length of the field, just like teams are doing with you.
Teams are waiting on you to make a mistake. So
(31:08):
I'm yeah, the special teams unit was very disappointing last week,
and this this special teams unit for Minnesota is has
some polish to it.
Speaker 8 (31:16):
Yeah, Yeah, that's like one thing you would hope and
it's just like we just didn't have to have this conversation.
Like it's kind of like the line you're talking about
the special teams a lot like something's going wrong. But
I think the most the most like discouraging thing for
me when I'm watching is I can I can accept
(31:36):
the fact even tho I don't like it.
Speaker 6 (31:38):
I can accept the.
Speaker 8 (31:38):
Fact that the Cowboys offense they're just a team that
it looks real bad at first and it gets better.
Speaker 6 (31:45):
That's okay.
Speaker 8 (31:46):
What I can't accept, and that's just that's really what
they've been doing, I'm telling But what I can't what
I can't accept, is them to come out for the
first series, two series whatever and then put your defense
who is still not forget it's building their own confidence.
How many weeks was the story we're going in there,
And I almost felt bad going to the locker room
because we were asking the same questions like you know,
(32:11):
to the offense, talking about like basically, how does it
feel to be carrying this team? But you're for this
defense who showed up for you three consecutive weeks in
big ways, giving this team hope against very good teams,
winning teams, things that people were like in Dallas even
be ye, yeah they can. They showed it they could.
(32:31):
But then you set them up to Nicole's point where
it's like their backs against the wall. You're almost asking
them to do something possible, and it's not just like once,
it's like back to back, they're gonna like, any great
defense is gonna fold at some point, especially when you're
facing better offenses, which we have, which they did last week.
So I don't know what the special teams got going on,
but fix it.
Speaker 5 (32:51):
You know, it's crazy what I feel like, since like
I got here, we never talked about special teams as much.
Speaker 4 (32:57):
Yeah, and that was that the strong way I mean
Bones was he was amazing. There's a reason why, like
you have to well, two guys that have been like
all pros from him recruiting and stuff. So it's a
big loss, like, you know, the coaching and not only
that with Bones, he.
Speaker 6 (33:13):
Wasn't just a coach. He helped create a lot of
the rules. He's really like you know what I'm saying though, he's.
Speaker 4 (33:19):
Like he's able to schematically do things because he kind
of got the jump on it.
Speaker 6 (33:24):
You know so uh. With Sorenson coming in, I think
that that.
Speaker 4 (33:27):
Is one of the areas that maybe we didn't focus
on as much, and maybe this offseason will take some
time to focus on a little bit more. Dallas is
gonna play some gonna They're gonna play zone anything freeze, Nope,
We're not.
Speaker 6 (33:41):
We're gonna second break here on girls. Stark Boystock presoner
by Vince Lie will be right back.
Speaker 5 (33:47):
Not flaying with you today, Hack of Way.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
And fallas coach. The Cowboys beat us by thirty points.
Now I'm talking about my dog.
Speaker 12 (33:55):
He started eating fresh food from the Farmer's Dog and
has lost seven pounds.

Speaker 2 (34:07):

Speaker 8 (34:09):
Uh?
Speaker 12 (34:10):
The Cowboys smoked us, hit the failed run some sprints.

Speaker 6 (36:36):
It's always the one thing that you heaving me.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
Okay too, you ahead, Icey, Yeah, I'm looking at every
I'm like, do tell what is the one thing that
one thing? Sorry, I guess for me, it would be
what they saw success in last week, which was quick game,
and you got killed with that this past week. How
(37:00):
can you you know, even at the even at the
fact that, like, if you gonna are gonna do what
you've been doing and running zone at the fifth highest
rate in the NFL. Uh, if you're gonna do that,
maybe try to make some looks at him, maybe try
to slip him up again. This is young quarterback. This
is a guy that you know doesn't always trust what
(37:21):
he's seeing. He will turn the ball over. I think
that's the biggest thing, is maybe trying to change the
picture and doing doing doing something to give your pass
rusher a little bit more time to get there. If
they do decide to go up tempo with their offense.
Speaker 6 (37:36):
Yeah, I would just like to point out that can't
do that.
Speaker 8 (37:40):
Last week, when this team decided to blitz the very
little they did, it actually worked. So Yeah, when I
look at a young QB who's can't read defenses, who
looks like he's if any kind of pressure gets to him,
he's just gonna kind of throw it wherever. And he's,
(38:00):
to your point, doesn't have the time. I'm I'm a blitz.
I'm a blitz, and I'm gonna mess him up talk
about it, and I'm hoping. And I don't know about you, Ayisha,
but Marist is someone that's been kind of hidden. But
when he when he when you send him, it looks
and you don't ask him to do too much. You
just set him downhill, just go. That's what his strength is.
(38:21):
It would be nice to see some more of Maris
doing that, overshown doing that, And I think that's how
you get him. I don't think it's going to take
much to get in JJ McCarthy's head.
Speaker 6 (38:34):
Agree. I agree. You look at the numbers.
Speaker 9 (38:36):
It's stifling. It's stifling.
Speaker 4 (38:38):
How much like if he's kept clean, it's all right
under pressure, money's blitzed.
Speaker 9 (38:45):
No play action, play action, It is the man.
Speaker 4 (38:50):
If he has anything else going on around him, he
will make panic.
Speaker 8 (38:55):
So I know we know we're like tomorrow will get
into Viking's defense, But we know Brian Floor is and
what he's about in the free runners that are.
Speaker 6 (39:02):
Going to be in his defense.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
Can we have that energy?
Speaker 6 (39:08):
It sounds like a good game to do it. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (39:10):
For a team whose offense you asked in the beginning,
what's their identity? I don't think they know what their
identity is. They're like, they're trying to figure it out.
They had a plan. To your point they went away
from it. Is that because they had an injured QB.
Did they see things they were from a college safe
that hasn't translated.
Speaker 6 (39:28):
To the NFL. I think yes.
Speaker 8 (39:30):
And are they trying to figure out mechanics stuff early
when you're talking about someone who had seven starts when
he's had ten interceptions in six games, like, yeah, probably
afraid to not be able to you know, you got
to do the basics before you can get to that
fancy playbook that Kevin O'Connor wants. So to your point, yes,
(39:51):
I think they'll stick to the run game or attempt
to because that is what worked and they're trying to figure.
Speaker 6 (39:56):
Out what's what still works. But yeah, I want you
refuse to uh to get in his bag. Yeah they
were successful.
Speaker 9 (40:03):
God, I thought that that's a great point.
Speaker 4 (40:05):
But they were successful last week when they decided to
blitz and effect Jered Golf and kind of get him
off center. I hope that if they do blitz, make
it look like it's make it look like you're not
going some of the some of the disguises'll.
Speaker 6 (40:22):
Be like, I'll be like, dog, you you so deep.
Speaker 4 (40:26):
Like right now, like of course, like they don't take
this seriously, sell it like I need the linebackers to
sell it a little bit more like at least ready Steward,
as much as he'd be not getting there, sometimes he
really be.
Speaker 6 (40:39):
Selling at the line. He'd be like, Oh, I'm gonna
get you.
Speaker 4 (40:41):
I'm not I'm.
Speaker 6 (40:42):
Gonna get you. At least sell it.
Speaker 8 (40:43):
I want to see somebody else I do I don't know.
Speaker 6 (40:47):
I just told you. I gave you two other who
else over show? Okay?
Speaker 4 (40:55):
You know you actually said some of Yeah, there was
probably some of your most aggressive Looney tunes crazy one.
Speaker 6 (41:03):
Yeah, please do something. Somebody do something. Their center is
rock silent.
Speaker 4 (41:06):
Though I ain't gonna lie in the center of theirs.
We rather wait. So that matchup, that's a matchup. I'm
looking forward to what Quentin Williams or whomever is going
to be lined up against their center.
Speaker 9 (41:20):
It's gonna be fun.
Speaker 5 (41:20):
What's a matchup you're looking forward to on the outside
with secondary looking forward to, I'm.
Speaker 6 (41:25):
Not really looking for I don't think anyone. I mean,
they haven't.
Speaker 8 (41:34):
I'll be discouraged if they're able to feed justin Jefferson
because they haven't been able to. So if they again,
if they figure if it's the get right game against
Dallas in week fifteen.
Speaker 6 (41:45):
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (41:46):
Uh, I wonder who Bland ends up taking.
Speaker 4 (41:50):
Yeah, you know who they feel like matches that we know.
Speaker 6 (41:53):
That, Uh, Savon Revel.
Speaker 4 (41:56):
Is coming off of a game where he kind of
struggled a little bit.
Speaker 6 (42:00):
I guess I would just say.
Speaker 4 (42:02):
The secondary in general, because JJ McCarthy sometimes can be
off off with this accuracy and things like that. Jordan
Addison has had seven drops this year.
Speaker 6 (42:12):
Can we get a can we get a tip pick?
Can we get a little h so to me, Yeah,
I'm looking if they.
Speaker 5 (42:20):
Wear yeah Dallas the secondary only has five interceptions.
Speaker 4 (42:26):
Yeah, and I think this is a game where maybe
you can get some of that to happen.
Speaker 9 (42:31):
Speed up the quarterbacks clock.
Speaker 4 (42:32):
You know that he's still struggling with accuracy, change the picture.
Go take the ball away from this offense that has
struggled to you know, like, don't get his whisted. You
know they put up points last week, but this offense
is only it's only averaging what nineteen points a game?
So nineteen point six points a game. So go put
pressure on them to have to pass. Yeah, and see
(42:53):
what happens.
Speaker 5 (42:54):
JJ McCarthy sacked the second most on pass attempts. Interception
percentage is the worst in the NFL.
Speaker 6 (42:59):
Maybe already.
Speaker 9 (43:03):
The pockets be clean.
Speaker 6 (43:05):
He got he got Jayleen Hrst spirit because.
Speaker 4 (43:07):
He because sometimes the pockets be clean.
Speaker 6 (43:10):
All week and it's only Wednesday.
Speaker 4 (43:12):
What I like Jalen Hurst, but he do got a
spirit like you got one?
Speaker 13 (43:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (43:16):
I do like Jamen Hurst as a human, Okay, because
but the one read and being like I'm out of here,
Like nah, brother, like you're gonna have to sometimes you
have to sit up there and get hit in the
mouth and deliver the ball.
Speaker 6 (43:30):
I need you to use the door.
Speaker 9 (43:32):
What I do?
Speaker 6 (43:33):
I just keep looking at this thirty one zero like
that's crazy.
Speaker 4 (43:36):
It is wild, and it's it's crazy to look at
the commanders.
Speaker 6 (43:39):
Yeah, what happened?
Speaker 14 (43:40):
Well?
Speaker 6 (43:40):
I know what happened to them.
Speaker 4 (43:41):
But what happened.
Speaker 6 (43:44):
Q can't stay healthy. He getting knocked out every game.
Speaker 4 (43:47):
I feel like you flick him and he he gets
he made out. I'm definitely having some injuries.
Speaker 6 (43:53):
I probably let him sit it out. I'm surprised that
they brought him back.
Speaker 4 (43:57):
But also to what happened is that the defense has
gone through a lot of the stuff that.
Speaker 9 (44:03):
I remember feeling.
Speaker 13 (44:05):
No.
Speaker 6 (44:05):
Well, we hope tonight feel that again. But Cowboys Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 5 (44:11):
I need one X factor before we go. Cowboys defense.
Expector Cowboys defense.
Speaker 4 (44:18):
Oh klowney, big dog, never a little one period.
Speaker 6 (44:23):
Defense.
Speaker 8 (44:23):
Oh my god, they's hearing me, my girls dramatized. I
would say Quinnon Williams and that's kind of a cheat code.
But yeah, quiet game last week, That's what I was
gonna say.
Speaker 6 (44:37):
And not a bad game, but quiet game. So I
would expect him. I don't. I don't feel like somebody
