Speaker 1 (00:05):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Cows blowing out of the backfield, flowing down the sideline.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
He is hanging with the voice Now your hosts.
Speaker 4 (00:26):
Nate Newton, Kurt Daniels, Jesse Holly, and Shannon Gross.
Speaker 5 (00:35):
Monday or look Alive had a very festive TOASTEDOS Championship
plaza outside Ford Center at the Star in Frisco, where
just to the right of that view there is a large,
enormous Christmas tree on the plaza. It is chilly forty
eight degrees. The high is fifty, the low tonight is
(00:56):
thirty one.
Speaker 6 (00:58):
He's Shannon, is Nate. We got Chris in the background.
Salt and Pepper. Poppy is out today. I am back,
I am Kurt.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Do we get you a flag?
Speaker 6 (01:14):
They say, ah, together we other sports talking crip Braille people.
Speaker 5 (01:23):
Yes, sir, we speak wing Stop is here and I
want to thank you personally, Kurt Man.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Let me shake your hand for real.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
You got a lot of problems, Yes, sir, bro your
wings was some of the best I've had from Stop.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
I'm not joking. What what What's to.
Speaker 5 (01:42):
Dame Louise in a rub rub him down, turned him on,
You got him down, you got.
Speaker 6 (01:48):
Him off them.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
I took it home right because my wife, you don't
like to playing Wings either.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
I'm on the guy that I play. That's like, uh,
what are these? I say? Don't touch him? That's what
those are, Curt Weeks.
Speaker 6 (02:02):
I'm glad I could help out in my absence.
Speaker 5 (02:05):
You hurt that Louisiana. Yes, sir, will turn you on, Yes, sir,
everybody on.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Don't forget it. Yeah, man, make sure you get his
thoughts on the game. Yeah, what were your thoughts on
the game? We don't want to go, don't we want
to hear your thoughts. Brother, for real.
Speaker 6 (02:26):
I was disappointing, you know. I don't know if they
were fatigued or whatever. They just weren't up for the fight,
the same as Detroit, which is unfortunate. So I had
no answer for Gibbs, which we thought would be a problem.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
I do something else.
Speaker 6 (02:41):
Overall, It's just, uh.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Just was he that good in college? Nate? Yes? See
what I wanted him?
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Yeah, that I stood up on the table for him,
which you know in here, I probably that's pro got
these little dens got probably broken every time I stood up.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
It's certain kids. Y'all know me. Man, I'm keep out
my kids. Uh.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Aaron Rodgers in his day, I would never turn against him. Now, Aaron,
come on, man, Uh gives U the kid at Philadelphia,
the defensive tackle. He's just certain players that I love, man,
Bucky Irv Oh yes, oh come on now, but we
don't have them and we can't get them, and we're
gonna go with what we got.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
But I'm telling that guy there, I knew you watch
him a lot of Texas. Yes, yeah, uh you know
who am I thinking? Was the cat in Atlanta? You're
talking about the guy in Atlanta? Oh be young? Yeah,
that dude, now that's who I shot. See.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
I am man enough to tell you people when I
am dead wrong. I was dead wrong with that kid.
I'm like, this kid ain't all of that they give him.
They feed him the ball. He oh, bro, I shot
holes in this kid. But I will apologize you whatever.
How you pronounce your name, sir, mister Robinson, I can't
pronouncecause you done change it. But I finally got used
(04:01):
to one way he changed it to another. So, mister Robinson,
I apologize you are it. But this kid for Detroit
come on, now, he makes an average offensive line good,
he makes a good offensive line great and a great
office line. You got almost two thousand yards. Would you
(04:22):
ever that we're probably be all over the place today.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
We get a couple bonus days today because the game
was last week, recapped it on Friday, so we get
extra day. Yeah, we get two extra days. Might take
some calls today.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Or tomorrow, for sure.
Speaker 5 (04:39):
Would you ever, either one of you guys, knowing kind
of we went through what a year or two of
where you just completely devalued the running back position in
the draft, like like you just don't. We're paying them
less money, they don't count. We're going to a passing league,
and now I think you're starting to see them kind
(04:59):
of work their way up as far as worth right.
Would you ever, either one of you guys draft a
running back in the first round?
Speaker 7 (05:08):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Yes, I would? Would you Yes? I would? I would.
I would have got this kid for Detroit. I would
have got him in a heart.
Speaker 8 (05:14):
By the way, the Cowboys like Gibbs and if he
was there at twenty six.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
But he went twelve. But this, Chris, this is what
would you wait?
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Because they was at that time I thought we would
get lucky because they were trying to devaluate the running backs.
But Detroit said, no, we valuate. And I'm with you, Chris,
because I'm thinking, boy, if he gets twenty six.
Speaker 5 (05:40):
Would you waste? Would you not waste? Would you use
a top fifteen pick?
Speaker 3 (05:45):
Yes, yes, yes, yes I would.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
I don't know about the time, because I'm telling you
Zeke well, we got him. Was everything in more for
least five years. He was everything and more for at
least four and a half years. I have no problem.
If a player is all of that, you gotta get him.
You see what we do is we'll let some situation.
Speaker 5 (06:17):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
And Kansas City did this to everybody.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Kansas City got a Checko and a few other guys
and some guys and had three or four. This is
the ultimate warrior mindset guy, and Andy Reid's he know
how to insert and how to do things.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Every coach at like that.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
So when you get a chance to get a Gibbs,
mister Robinson, you better get them because you ain't Andy Reid.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
You don't have that mindset.
Speaker 7 (06:45):
You know.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Even the game last last night, as much as I
want to give all the credit to the Texans, they
went fourth and one.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
They dropped it. It was rather in the kids. Man
he dropped it.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
You ain't never seen the tight end drop a pass
and fumble with it and almost get his chest caved
in like he did last night. Because Andy Rees and
that magical man he got a quarterback can put you
in a position to win. Everybody can't do that. So
when you have a chance to get a player of
that ilk uh the Bucky got down and uh, I
(07:25):
stop at every BUCkies, not just because.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
But that the sponsor that is not a sponsor.
Speaker 8 (07:36):
Remember bjon went to number eight that same ye and
then Jim I mean Gibbs and Jeon.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
That's a two amazing guys, amazing man, amazing the.
Speaker 6 (07:45):
Top like Jonathan Taylor is the second rounder, James Cook's
second round of a chain or whatever. He's a third. Yes,
Henry was a second rounder. Javonte Williams, he was a
second rounder. So you know, I just worry about spinning
really unless you know, unless you're certain they're going to be.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
You know, I'm glad we haven't. It just this is
this is what the hanging of the boys should be.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
You know.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Now, don't get me wrong, When I want a show
up were back at it.
Speaker 8 (08:13):
But by the way, you got hey, sir, you like
that running but you like Gibbs right, And yes, okay sir.
The guy coming out this year is pretty good too,
is that Jeremiah Love. That's what you're gonna start looking at.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Oh he's at uh brother, He's a very very good place.
He unique. That's the only reason I watched all the
Dame because of him. That's what everybody's gonna be wanting.
Everybody's gonna want him the thing that that hurts.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
And I'm glad we just talking in general, and I
want all of y'all thoughts too, because the fan need
to know that we have fans. I'm a fan, but
I'm just kind of a knowledgeable fan because I get
to go over there and hang out with them guys sometimes.
But these two guys are fans and they get knowledge too.
So I just think when you don't you say, well,
(09:04):
but what was your other alternative? How many number ones
are not turning out for us? And oh man, I
won't spending on a running back, but I'll spend it
on such and such and it don't turn out, then
what's your thoughts? You know what I'm saying, so if
a player, I believe, if a player has the grade
(09:26):
and the ability coming out of college, and I'm one,
I have a new rule. It used to be owning
my quarterback rule. If you don't play two four.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
Years in college.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
In college, you taking a high risk. Your risk is crazy,
especially at quarterback. But that's my lineman.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
Two.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
I need for my lineman to have two years. Not
he played two. He played five games, then he played
ten games. I want these twelve games I want and
that's hard. That's not hard to find it in college. Well,
I'm play twenty four games.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
It's not hard. Then he played Juco Juco. But I
need for him. I think the kid that with the Bengals.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
You know, he got two good years in LSU, you know,
and now he's unstoppable. You know, the guy that's the
quarterback for Kansas City, I think he got two or
three years in. It seemed like, you know, Brady, he
got two or three years in. And I know it's
some guys that probably did. I just don't know many
guys that did one year of college and came in
(10:35):
and lit up the league.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
Chris is, how many guys do you know in it? Well?
One year of college and they've come in and.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
Lit up the league can't be many, you know, So
that's my You know, well they.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
Have to take three years. You're talking about just one
good year.
Speaker 8 (10:51):
Yeah, yes, because what I'm saying of high school three years.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
He's talking about playing a full sea full season.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Now I want full season, two full seasons, and it
don't don't bother me.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Twenty four games basically, and it don't bother.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
Me if a quarterback is twenty two or twenty three. Now,
in basketball, that'll hurt you. But in football, that's just
growing into being a man, that's maturing and understanding it.
So I want the majority of my players to have
played football.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
We are going to the measurables too much.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
He's got the longest arms, he's got the he got
the quick feed, he's got this, and he got that.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
But then when we say well.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
How much experience, experience does count for something. And that
was the difference for me. That was the difference with
us of being in a desperate situation.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
The more situations.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
You've been in, that's that's hectic and brings you in anxiety,
you learn, you know, you learn to win those big games.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
You learn to win those close games.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
And I just believe that, man, so I won't experience
I want a guy. I would take a guy that's smart,
which is a little bit less talent than that super
ultra talented guy that just cannot get it together. He
just cannot get it together, you know, no matter what
you do or say, how you treat him, he's that
(12:17):
love for the game is not there.
Speaker 5 (12:19):
Well, that's kind of what y'all had to go through, right,
Like you to be a winner, you have to go
through some kind of adversity and prove to yourself, oh
we can do this, like we can be you know,
down in the fourth quarter and come back and win.
Until you do it, you don't your brain doesn't know
that that's possible, right, And that's that winter mentality.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
You have to go through the fire to do that right.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
And then to learn to chip away and to put
things in priority. You know, one thing that Michael Irvin
and Troy and all of them were good at was
they were good and Coach Johnson always we lived in
the moment, Live for right now, you know, lil, because
(13:02):
if you prepare right now, tomorrow is going to.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
Take care of itself.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
You put all you got onto this practice field all
you got into the fem move Well, why are you
doing it?
Speaker 3 (13:12):
As did they move on? Now?
Speaker 2 (13:14):
You're preparing for tomorrow. But if you just waiting on
the game, that game takes prepper.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
It's a pro. It's a process to get into this game.
Speaker 6 (13:23):
So we're seeing and now I wanted to ask you
guys this. I don't hope it transitions well, but we're
seeing now that the Cowboys just get off to these
slow starts. And you talk about you've got to be
prepared ahead of time. You can't wait for the game.
Are they Is that part of the problem They're I
don't know, they're not ready when it kicks off because
(13:44):
I looked at.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
This, but I'll give you example. Does that apply with
Denver too? Denver starts off slow?
Speaker 6 (13:52):
You know? I mean the Cowboys right now they're being
outscored one hundred and nine to forty nine first quarter.
The other three quarters they outscored their opponent, but that
first quarter they're falling. You know, so often they're falling behind.
And is that why? I mean, I don't I don't
get why they're just.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
I don't have I don't have an answer to that.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
And anybody that can tell you they got an answer
to it, they don't. Yeah, I'm serious because at one point,
and I used Denver, at one point, Denver was kind
of having those where they had to come back, you know,
two or three games where they were going pretty slow.
It's probably even out now over time, but that was
(14:33):
their big knock coming into us. You know, remember they
had played New York and they had to come back,
and they had another game where they had to come back.
I will say this right here, and I would challenge
any it's only two or three coordinators you ever hear
me talk about defensively or offensively that I just believe
(14:54):
that they can truly take their players up. A notch
ain't but three or four of them in the league. Okay,
so what is the evener around the league? You got
to go out and get the better players. You got
to go out and get the better all around. When
you hear guys in here trying to talk about a
coach dgrade, a coach da da da da da, these guys.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
Have never coached anything.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
They have, They have never had to deal with millions
of differences of attitudes. You don't know what's going I
got the corral, thirty two guys defensively, I don't know
what's going on in their homes. I gotta have a
good relationship. I got to put this game play together.
I gotta deal with my coaches. When you hear guys
trying to tell you about a coach, especially a coach
(15:43):
that has got some skins on the wall, they just
talking because it's still the great equalizer.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
It's players.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
The Bengals the other night jumped out on the Bills
and everybody shut it down. You can see the frustration
in their head coaches face. But one guy, dumb guy,
the man believe that, no, this ain't going like this.
This is not going like this now. For granted, you
probably have some talking heads that came around the next.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
Morning, coach what it did this? And coach, that's why
they got that bulldog at the quarterback. He ain't gonna
give up.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
And that when we beat the Kansas City Chiefs, and when.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
We especially the Philadelphiagas with everybody, they had none doing.
No coaches, man, they ain't had none doing.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
No coaches that had a belief in what Dak was
trying to get to his players, and his players bought
into it, and as a unit, they chopped the way
one player at the time on the Philadelphia team that
is not doing well. They took advantage of a great
situation and we won the game. We What made me
(16:57):
laugh is our special team coach has been average all year,
but eva Flus has took up his space.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
The offenses took up his space.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
Well guess where y'all were in the tenth, eleven, twelfth
game of the year. And now the special teams come
up under fire. He's no good, he's not this and
he's not this. Well you know what he's he has
not been good almost all year long. So but what
has to change? We can go and we talked.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
About this before we do. We need to take a break.
We talked about this before we came on.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Do you really want to just keep I'm gonna tell
you what is not successful And I'm gonna tell you
what what is a part of losing on a great scale?
Just keep keep changing coaches, just keep right on. Let's
get a new defensive coordinator. Let's take this there, because
the next thing, hey, maybe we need to make sure
they shouldn't be offensive coordinator. So when that cpn okay,
(18:00):
But let's change the offensive coordinator. Let's you right right
about now. I know one coach saying, I show wish
you had my coordinators. I bet you Detroit Lion saying,
I show wish.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
You had my coordinators.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
Coordinators are so key to what happens with your program.
And when you get two good ones, you got something special.
You got something special. Like k C is going through
a down year. That's cause of longevity. Longevity is catching
up with k C and because their coaches ain't good,
(18:36):
they getting worn down. Bro, nine straight years of AFC,
can we get nine straight years of NFC?
Speaker 3 (18:43):
And what a terrible problem to have.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
You know what, Give me some longevity, give me some loevity.
Speaker 5 (18:50):
It's old in the tooth, all right, Let's take our
first break when we come back, more bonus day on
hanging with the boys.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
We're back.

We're saving all the all the good stuff for uh,
for Jesse.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
There's one there's one.
Speaker 5 (21:27):
Bullet you have on here, Kurt that I definitely want
to wait for Jesse Pickings win it uh, Richard Sherman
a little bit.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
Yeah, you know, I didn't really hear all of what
Richard said. And and this is this is the shame
of what of our business, which we all have a
right once we get these mics in front of us
to criticize or to say whatever we want. But this
is this kid for us, this is a kid first
(21:56):
game where things didn't go exactly how we wanted him
to go.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
What what? Uh?
Speaker 4 (22:02):
What?
Speaker 3 (22:02):
What? What?
Speaker 5 (22:02):
What?
Speaker 3 (22:03):
What were they looking for? What? What were you? He
had a bad game? So what?
Speaker 2 (22:09):
And that's why I refuse to go at CD and
pick her side and who's one and who's two? Because
if if you get to the playoffs and you get
into the first round and you exit in the first
round like we've normally do.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
What what what's the what's the difference?
Speaker 2 (22:29):
I mean, I just believe this here fellas, we have
to as media heads, not not you guys. I'm saying
me for myself. You got to be fair, You got
you got to look at especially the guys that played
in this game. I'm not saying don't have your own personality,
but come on now, Richard, I don't see you get
(22:50):
took deep too.
Speaker 3 (22:50):
Now.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
Yeah, and I don't seen Nate Newton give up sacks,
so it can happen to all of us. You know,
I mean, be critical, but you know, don't don't don't.
Don't be your program off of dude, you know what
I'm saying.
Speaker 6 (23:03):
Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
I don't know why, Like.
Speaker 5 (23:07):
Why you can't just say that he had a bad game. Look,
this wasn't your best game, you know, I.
Speaker 6 (23:14):
Don't gets more clicks more round up here.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Yeah, there were.
Speaker 6 (23:18):
I think it was the effort was being questioned.
Speaker 5 (23:21):
That that and that's where the that's the area I
think that if you've ever been around players, if you
criticize them, and it's it's justifiable criticism. I've never met
a player that has a problem with that. They're like,
you know what, Yeah, I should have been here and
I was here, I did this, I should have done this.
I had a bad game, this was off. It's when
(23:43):
you start questioning that effort, that's yeah, that's like that's
like question in your manhood, right like well, whoa whoa?
Speaker 3 (23:49):
Whoa? Whoa?
Speaker 5 (23:49):
You you know you're not out there on the practice
field with me, You're not you don't know what's going
on behind the scenes.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
I think that's the that's the the the no no.
Speaker 5 (23:57):
The taboo thing is when you question you know your
effort or your heart or your drive.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
I think that's the big no. Not with the with
the pressure.
Speaker 5 (24:08):
So what, Nate, what's your favorite position to watch? Do
you do you enjoy watching the trenches, the offensive, the d.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
I do watch the trenches, but not like I used
to like just to say every time it's I'm not
gonna I'm a little too old and I'm not gonna
live like that. I'm trying to enjoy. I'm gonna try
to enjoy football. And like I say, but when I
see something like I've been telling you guys for the
last seven eight weeks, offense and line gotta get healthy,
and they got to play together, you know, and.
Speaker 6 (24:41):
It's been the problem, just tackles in and out.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
Yes sir, yes, sir. And then we remember we had
to guard a centagone for four weeks, did y'all when
you played? We were fortunate? Were y'all like fortunate? Y'all
didn't have a ton of like major injuries? Did very fortunate.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
We may lose like two and they we lost for
a year, we lost Stepnosky for a half year, but
we were very fortunate not to have a lot of injury.
We were very very fortunate. I think one time we're
at almost two straight years of no major injuries. So
that that is key in getting to know the guy.
(25:19):
You see where the right guard booker is good, great,
and then you'll see okay, learning period. You know, you'll
see where Tyler Guiden is an athlete. I will not
take that away from him, but his belief and what
he got, he won't use it. I will watch him
(25:42):
overset guy after guy after guy instead of him trusting
that if he stay a half a man when he's
setting and he run, he's got the foot speed to
run a guy around the horn.
Speaker 3 (25:55):
I don't know why he don't believe that.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
But that's on him, because you know, I haven't seen
enough of Nate Thomas to know. Thomas kind of got
brought into the league. They baptized me. I don't know
if he Protestant, Catholic, or whatever. He laid hands on him.
You know, you brought.
Speaker 6 (26:13):
Up something, you mentioned something that I wanted to ask
you about talking about the tackles, Schattenheimer said, that their
sets weren't great. I think he's especially Thomas, and they
were passive. I'm not really what was He kind of
referenced like.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
He was he was passive.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
Me, you're giving ground too quickly. But you know, I
spent the whole show you can action the cole. I'm
so mad at Nate and I saw it in training
camp and I spoke to coach briefly. Coach he needed
to be stop with the casual sets. And what I
mean by it truly look up the word casual.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
Yeah, I'm not.
Speaker 6 (26:54):
I'm not.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
Well.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
You know more about football is so sudden. It's sudden,
a sudden explosiveness. That's what football is, especially for an
offensive deal like, it's sudden explosiveness. And when you and
what I mean by that is when he's setting instead
of him bah bah.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
And getting ready to fight, he floating out there like
your Cadillac bro be a mustang. Be quick and hard,
quick and fast. You know.
Speaker 6 (27:24):
You know what I'm saying. A coaching thing, uh attitude.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
What the coaches try to do is adjust to your
who you are as a player. And one time he
had a mental and his that got a sack early
in the game. Where I don't know what he saw inside.
He looked inside and set twice one two, but he
(27:50):
was looking inside and by the time he realized that, oh,
he was gone. God, that guy Muhammad was passing And
I'm saying to myself, whoa why was he?
Speaker 3 (27:59):
Why was he looking inside?
Speaker 2 (28:00):
On that play it could have been a safety had
walked up to the line. I was threatening to blitz
into the line, and he was probably saying he was
already presetting itself to go inside. But that ain't your
responsibility that dude that's standing out next to you.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Unless that guy is.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
Owned the line or a yard or less than a
yard to that line, you don't even worry about him
because Dak sind are the back send, you know, and
if it's hot, it's up to Dak. But don't you
don't you look in there and get his more free
run hit Dack, which which what happened?
Speaker 3 (28:35):
Can you in the off season?
Speaker 5 (28:39):
Receivers in the quarterback they can just go out to
the backyard and throw the ball and play. Running backs
can do foot drills. Do offensive linemen ever invite defensive lineman, Hey,
let's go work together, because you don't really get hands
and you don't really get that high impact contact unless
(29:01):
you're practice.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
What we used to do in practice and during the
summer camps is we would get somebody like a wide
receiver depending on your skill set as a tackle, or
we'll get a tight end and we'll just running loop.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
What we call run the.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
Loop is we'll we'll get to a certain set and
we'll let that guy just take off.
Speaker 3 (29:27):
Once we get right here, we'll let that guy take off.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
And the automatically make us pop our hips and get
our hand around and put it on his hip and
just keep running.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
Learn he's teaching yourself, because most people when they.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Turn that hip, they panic and they go to luncheon
and and and the quarterback has the ability to step up.
You gotta trust that Dak can feel that to step.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
Up, and you just keep running with your hand on
his hip.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
Don't lose your feet, you know, keep your head up,
don't lose your feet, pop them hips and get on
around and just go and get on your wheels and
go to run for everything you got and just push
your on past. A lot of times that quarterback can
feel that and step up, you know. But if you
give up too quick, then that guy can push back
in and get your quarterback and hit his arm or whatever.
(30:13):
But if you keep pushing that pushing speed on him,
he can't get his arm up.
Speaker 5 (30:17):
But do you do, guys, because there's not a whole
lot of three hundred plus six foot four and six
foot five guys that you can simulate movement and mass
like I. You know, I ain't got a whole lot
of friends that are that big to go, Hey, come
out here and just come at me.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
And the thing is, I want a tight end or
wide receiver running this thing from this loop because of
the speaking, because of the speed, because Tyler got the
athletic ability.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
But you guys did that. You invited guys to you.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
Know, we told them, hey, dude, we need for you
to help us, you know, and you just tell them, hey, man,
come on over here. I want you to get me
five or six you know things you may not even
touch them, not one time, but it's teaching you to
open your hips, drop that foot, run and push with
everything you got without leaning half of eye.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
Guys are hand heavy, And.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
What I mean by hand heavy is they depended on
everything on their hands.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
So when they punch, they incided them punching like this.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
They punching like this, and when you do that, they
just batch it down and your weight is already over
your knees.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
You just fall forward, you know how they double bashing,
and all of a sudden you going hey, why, like wow,
what would just happen there?
Speaker 2 (31:31):
So it's just little technical things like that that they
got to be mindful of in the game because Dak
up until this last he didn't happen for them.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
For excuse me, Ah got.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Us in Carolina, they got us in Denver because of
these guys wasn't playing together backups here. Now you were
all together. The only person they missing his guidance. Now
you're working a new guy and you work. Yeah, you
working a new guy in the Nate Thomas, Now he understands.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
It's it ain't. But most guys got a great move.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
They got one great move that they depend on defensively
as a pass rusher. The great ones can do two
or three great along with the great one. But the
average guy got that one great move and maybe one
and a half more. But once you know that one
great movie and that second best move, now you can
(32:30):
always play to it. Depending on where you at on
the field. What's the down and distance this situation? You know,
you know where your help coming from. We got turn
protection you the center. I'm turning this way. I got
a real fast guy. I'm gonna let you know, Hey,
I'm gonna set out. I'm gonna set out wide, so
that means you gotta come on. I'm gonna say I'm
gonna set a little short.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
Now. You can just kind of ease into it, you.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
Know, because you know, and if I got a guy
that I can just whoop the death, we'll just turn
the protection of the way. If mantoy can handle this
left side, we'll just turn protection the other way all
day if needed.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
But every winging was over there, so it wasn't all right.
Speaker 5 (33:11):

of Hanging with the Boys.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
Brought to you by seven eleven.
Speaker 5 (35:33):
Each and every show always open seven to eleven, just
like our show.
Speaker 3 (35:41):
Who how interested are we in this game now this
week as a fanking game? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (35:49):
Seven percent to get into the into the playoffs? Like
are you interested in the game? Well, yeah, we want
them to win, but like, how realistic is I think
a lot of how how much does your give a crap?
Speaker 3 (36:05):
Go down?
Speaker 5 (36:05):
If the if Philly wins tonight, Because if they win tonight, basically,
you're you're.
Speaker 3 (36:12):
Pretty much done.
Speaker 5 (36:13):
But if they lose, does that make your interest in
this game Sunday go way more hope?
Speaker 6 (36:21):
For sure? But I think this team.
Speaker 3 (36:23):
Is are you membery rephrase it? Are you more interested in.
Speaker 5 (36:29):
Next season now and developing guys and letting some young
guys get some reps and seeing what we have at
linebacker and seeing what we have you know, depth wise?
Speaker 3 (36:42):
Are you still in.
Speaker 5 (36:44):
Give me another game or two to make sure I'm
mathematically eliminated before we give these guys reps?
Speaker 6 (36:50):
Still in that, I still want to see them put
a little pressure, give a little hope. I still want
them to be winning. Yeah, I'm not ready to, you know,
bring in the you know, the younger guys. There are
already a lot of young guys playing, But I'm not
ready for that. I think that, But it's a twofold thing.
I think you start winning now, it obviously creates hope
(37:11):
for this year, but you're generating momentum for next year.
So I think that's there's still definitely something.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
I'm gonna ask a question, And.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
I mean, just this makes sense to me, It may
not make sense to other people.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
Because the hope of the Cowboys is so high.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
If I gave you two thousand dollars, I said, hey, man,
you can go up the road and beed it, but
you only have a twenty percent chance of winning.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
Would you go.
Speaker 5 (37:41):
So free money? I'm gonna keep it or I could
keep it too.
Speaker 3 (37:46):
I'm keeping that ball.
Speaker 6 (37:47):
I'm keeping it, you know.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
Okay, So the Cowboys is that two thousand dollars, bro
that was before this game a twenty percent chance to
go to the playoffs. And I'm saying to myself, and
that's because we was doing the pregation, Like, why you
ain't hyped up? I said, because if I had two
thousand dollars and I had a twitter chance win, I
think I'm gonna keep my two thousand dollars. So they're like,
(38:10):
what do you say it? I'm like, I ain't saying.
I'm just saying, the Cowboys are the two thousand dollars.
Speaker 5 (38:15):
When would you When would you start giving young guys
reps when you're mathematically eliminated?
Speaker 3 (38:21):
No, he like you said, who are not play? Who
is not played? Would you give him more time?
Speaker 5 (38:27):
Though?
Speaker 2 (38:28):
You got to give the best players at this point
in time. If coach Shottenheimer want to continue to try
to build on what he has. You have to continue
to play. The best players got to continue unless you
know in your heart, yeah, you know, just to get
to know each other.
Speaker 3 (38:49):
This is what made me laugh.
Speaker 2 (38:50):
We played a young guy that hadn't played since he
played in college, a cornerback, and.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
I was watching a little bit of a game on him.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
Cha yes, and people saying, why wasn't he pressing? I
don't know why they didn't put him in press But
he had a route where he went to turn and
he fell down. This kid don't even trust his knees yet.
Most cornerbacks stay in some type of bent mode, you know,
(39:24):
they always some close to being bent a bent mode.
This dude was backpedaling straight up. So when he went
to opens hips, they locked on him because he didn't
have no explosions. He just tripped and fell. And I'm
saying to myself, I wondered if any of the guys
that telling these fans that this dude has to get
(39:47):
confidence in himself as well as in this defense.
Speaker 6 (39:52):
We have not had you talking about a guy who
hadn't played much in college.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
Yes, And we talked and we and we're talking about
guys that have been in and out of the lineup.
Our corners.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
Bland is the only one and maybe one other guy,
but everybody's been in and out, in and out. This
has not been a great year for transition for players
on this team. We you know, just as our voice
of reasoning. But I'm sitting here looking at all of this.
I'm taking all of this in saying, Wow, our secondary
(40:30):
has not been holed all year long. That's no excuse
for not knowing what to do, but is it is
excuse in trying to get out there and do it
as a unit. Our offensive line for the first time,
what we've had for the second time this year, we've
had the same group for two games in a row.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
You know.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
So for this team to be where they're at, because
I didn't think they would be right here at this
time coming out of try ain't a camp I didn't.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
I didn't think this. But for them to be.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
Where they're at and still be enthusiastic about playing. I
play these guys because they they still trying to play.
Speaker 3 (41:12):
Now.
Speaker 2 (41:13):
I see a few guys or what I'm looking at them,
you know, as they're getting their food and stuff, they
ain't too happy. They ain't not because two weeks ago,
but people bouncing. You know what I'm saying now, everybody, No,
I have nothing negative to say. You know, I've been
in your shoes, you know. And and if I'm blessed
(41:34):
enough to be we all be together now. I'm not
gonna be its not gonna be.
Speaker 3 (41:37):
Nate next year.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
Ah no, no, no, no, you got a year now, you
got a year under your belt. And whoever we draft,
do not talk about, Well, We're gonna make him earn it.
If we draft a dude in the first round, if
that dude ain't on that field from from OTAs.
Speaker 3 (41:58):
I'm gonna be out them. Coaches.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
You mean, tam you driving another dude that can't start?
Come on now, you can't do.
Speaker 3 (42:05):
That, right, is correct?
Speaker 6 (42:07):
Yeah? I mean better not.
Speaker 3 (42:09):
I bet Jandon Red ain't got no problem with it.
Speaker 5 (42:13):
And if you look at the schedule like no, I'm
looking at the schedule.
Speaker 3 (42:18):
Like, if you look at who we lost to this year,
you're not really mad.
Speaker 5 (42:23):
I'm mad you lost the well, I mean you're mad
because you're not where you need to be. But you
lost to Philly, you lost to Chicago, you lost to Carolina,
you lost to Denver, Arizona.
Speaker 3 (42:34):
Yes, that's the one you're mad about.
Speaker 6 (42:36):
What they lost what ten of their last eleven games.
Speaker 3 (42:39):
Yeah, and we're the one with the one that they won.
And then Detroit.
Speaker 5 (42:43):
I mean, if you you look at that, Chicago's in
the playoffs, probably Carolina's fighting. They fighting like they were
everybody wrote them off after the third game of the season, right, So,
I mean, you didn't have any like bad other than Arizona,
bad teams that you lost to.
Speaker 3 (43:00):
It's just maybe it was just a bad year for
the schedule, I'm telling you. And I asked the fans
this right here.
Speaker 5 (43:09):
And your defense didn't get it together until you brought
in help.
Speaker 3 (43:12):
That's the big deal, fans. Is this a changing of
the guard around the league? Around the league? New England
is Levin and whatever, you know New England.
Speaker 5 (43:26):
You know, I think the interesting thing around the league
is the quarterback situation. Like you got what one old
dog left, Aaron Rodgers just hanging on by his gray
hair on his chin.
Speaker 3 (43:41):
But yeah, I guess.
Speaker 5 (43:42):
But then you've got like the old guys after that
are with Dak but Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrows kind
of getting up.
Speaker 3 (43:51):
I mean they're not old. So you've got this. You know,
they have flux of players that and their longevity is
getting longer, playing into their forties. Now you got Baker
Mayfield you're talking about that's had three different careers since
he had but he is the locked in guy at
Tampa Bay.
Speaker 2 (44:09):
You knowing, The thing is, is this abnominally this year?
Is everything gonna go back to Kansas City Ravens or is.
Speaker 3 (44:21):
It gonna be the Bears? Yeah? And the Yes yes,
Carolina Yeah, so Denver interesting.
Speaker 2 (44:30):
And these teams, these teams that you just mentioned believe
in running the ball, The teams that you just mentioned
truly believes in running the ball, and so and playing defense.
All of these teams you name are playing nice to
great defense.
Speaker 5 (44:50):
I think I think running back is going to be
one of the most interesting offseason stories of the year
because you've got a good running back since since since
Zeke was in his prime. You've got the best running
back you've had. Do you let him go because he's
gonna he's gonna get some money somewhere.
Speaker 3 (45:13):
Do you let him go?
Speaker 5 (45:14):
And then you've got Maliite Davis in blue behind him.
Speaker 3 (45:19):
Non no, blue is not a factor, right, So you
got Malik Davis.
Speaker 5 (45:23):
So do you try to sign resign Williams at probably
a higher rate because somebody's gonna pay him a little bit?
Or do you go draft somebody or do you try
to get somebody in free agency?
Speaker 2 (45:33):
And well you're already saying that you don't value the
running back position.
Speaker 5 (45:36):
No, I do, after especially after this year. Like, but
do you pay Williams because somebody's gonna pay him, because
you want to pay pickings or you want a franchise
tag him?
Speaker 4 (45:47):
Right?
Speaker 5 (45:48):
I think you got it. I think you saw this
year what that running back can do for you. I
think you got to have a running back, and I
don't think going and drafting one. I don't think you're
using one of those first round picks on a running
back this year.
Speaker 2 (46:03):
The thing that you don't have to You don't have
to because somebody gonna let a running back slip to
you in the second round early.
Speaker 3 (46:10):
But are you willing to go up and get him?
If that's see right.
Speaker 5 (46:15):
It's gonna cost you something, either cash with with Williams
or trade capital or something, right.
Speaker 2 (46:21):
You know, because I don't know where Scatterbu was drafted,
but see, you know that was my one man fantasy.
Speaker 3 (46:29):
Yeah, you can laugh at this kid.
Speaker 2 (46:32):
But this kid was for one year. It was gonna
do for one year. He was gonna wreck this league
for one year because he was gonna beat himself to dell.
Speaker 3 (46:40):
All right, here's another question before we go. We're already overtime.
But was Rico Daldele he was good? I tried to say,
is it a system thing though? That he is? He
that good when he was here and we just didn't
use him the.
Speaker 2 (46:52):
Right trying to tell y'all eight hundred times, most running
backs can really run.
Speaker 3 (47:01):
Got office.
Speaker 5 (47:04):
You know how it's been since we've seen it. Two
hundred yard rushing game here in Carolina. He's had how
many two or three?
Speaker 2 (47:11):
And he's gone to beat himself to death. That was
the thing. They ain't think he can do. The Longeogarty thing.
Which now Hubert Chubble hugo whatever excuse me, Hubbard? Yeah,
what is his name? Man, Hubby Chubby? Well, he's from
Oklahoma State and uh he's back. He's back running the
ball a lot now.
Speaker 5 (47:30):
So all right, good Jesse, we missed you, Thank you, Nate,
good stuff.
Speaker 3 (47:38):
Kurt, all right, thy too? I mean one put.
Speaker 5 (47:41):
Jesse will see tomorrow. Chris, thanks for keeping us on
the air. Take some phone calls tomorrow. Call us, tune in,
call us. We will be back tomorrow, same time, same place.
On Hanging with the Boys, we out go.
Speaker 1 (47:53):
It's been a production of dallascowboys dot Com and the
Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
