Thank you, thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
I'm the only one gave you a thumb It's okay, man,
it doesn't bother me. Hey, but I want to ask you,
the guys this because when I get an opportunity.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
To host the show, I asked this question.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
I start with my host and I asked a mental
check in, how are you doing today? I'm checking on you,
so I'm gonna start with you. Ever, Socenar are you today?
Speaker 7 (01:50):
Man?
Speaker 6 (01:50):
You know you would ask me that because today I
am recovering from a bad I don't know if it's
an absence or what. On my gum, I didn't get
to go to Charles Hayley's off turn. It just it
was throbbing so much it went into my head.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
It was a headache. Man. I was all night just
feeling like that's fun.
Speaker 8 (02:10):
Sorry, Sorry we asked, yeah right, I just wanted to hear.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
Yeah. God had to take the Abeville and stuff.
Speaker 6 (02:18):
I can't be taking that stuff on one kidney, but
I had to, man, I had to.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
But you are here here, but you made it so
much better. Abscess on your job.
Speaker 6 (02:27):
Man.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
I'm good now though, I'm good now. Don't take what
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (02:31):
What the hell happens, bag, but I'm gonna tell you this.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
I'm good.
Speaker 6 (02:34):
I'm blessed because boy, that could have been a whole
lot worse when it turned out to be. Got a
good night sleep, I got good people at home, take
care of me, Mickey.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
How are you today?
Speaker 5 (02:44):
Great as always?
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Great as always as always? Well good to hear man,
Well can we ask how you doing?
Speaker 6 (02:49):
Man?
Speaker 3 (02:50):
I'm you know what They lit me in the door
down there. I'm blessed they opened the door one more time.
Speaker 6 (02:56):
All right, how long as that door is opening for you,
crossing my finger at the door every time, and crip walk, no.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
Crip walker.
Speaker 8 (03:05):
Every time I hit this badge at the door and
it opens, I'm going.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Okay. So you know the feeling, you know, the always checked.
Speaker 6 (03:15):
Like that only mixed shots is supposed to fill because
we are always teetering on the edge if it doesn't work.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
It's like.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
I didn't know that I was going to be hosting
it there. Had I known that, I would have sent
you guys home with a little homework like Bill usually.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Yes, but you did good in the rundown.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
In the rundown and specifically about this New York Giants defense,
because I think everyone out there believes that this New
York Giants defense is the strength of their team. Now offensively,
after the first week against the Philadelphia Eagles, we feel
a lot better about our offense, specifically our offensive line.
And so Mickey, I read your article where you talked
(03:53):
about this team and it's specifically the offense and possibly
this running game dominating against the Giants, and your words you.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
Thought no one cared? What's that you thought no one cared?
Did you about?
Speaker 8 (04:06):
Well?
Speaker 4 (04:06):
But I just write read it and he is ready
to talk about it. Let's do it? Well?
Speaker 5 (04:12):
Can I just push that back just a little bits?
Speaker 4 (04:16):
Then?
Speaker 5 (04:17):
Can you play cornerback?
Speaker 4 (04:19):
I can't.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
They might need you for real?
Speaker 4 (04:22):
Is it that Bland? What is going on? Man? I
didn't know his foot was hurt.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
He's probably out multiple weeks.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
What is happening? Man?
Speaker 3 (04:29):
Why can't that happened Monday? That happened happened Monday, comes
down today and I mean yesterday when we got the
word on that.
Speaker 8 (04:36):
But yeah, misspractice and think about now, think about it.
So Bland, I mean he's he's probably he's out for
this game, maybe the next game. Iber Flu said that
I was just listening to him and he said that,
you know, unfortunate. Feel bad for him, but we got
(04:57):
to have guys step up. But here's the problem. If
I listed you the Cowboys' top six cornerbacks, two of them.
Speaker 5 (05:08):
Will play on Sunday.
Speaker 8 (05:10):
Diggs who's ramping up by the way, so how many
snaps can he do more than the twenty seventy did
last week? And kyir Elam They got four guys out
now with Bland, uh savonn Revel on NFI still, Josh
(05:30):
Butler on IR, Kaylin Carson on IR always. So there's
four of the top six will not be available on Sunday,
and you need three right at least, So now you
got four for sure?
Speaker 6 (05:48):
Right, Hey, I know there's there was a guy out there.
He had number twenty four on.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
He was there God, But I told you God.
Speaker 5 (06:01):
That he's been gone for two years now.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
In your article you talked about Ready Stewart.
Speaker 8 (06:06):
Ready Stewart was the guy that if Bland, I mean,
if Diggs wasn't ready to go, he was going to
go into the slot and Land would have stayed outside.
So to me, he's probably the first guy up here.
He knows the defense since he played with Eberflus last year,
(06:27):
but he didn't play that much. And then tri Quiz
Bridges probably Quiz will be active. He was active last
week just special teams. So he's got to be active.
And I think they got to think about elevating Zion
Childress off the practice squad.
Speaker 5 (06:46):
Doesn't have enough numbers.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
There's the name right there, Zion Childress. That's the guy
that you were confident in him and.
Speaker 8 (06:56):
Until they brought in these other guys and then he
ended up on the practice squad. So yeah, when they
go to Nickel, I mean to me, Diggs has got
to play more than just Nickel. He's got to go
out there. Hopefully he's ready for it. Iberflus didn't say
he said they would increase his see how the practice goes,
(07:21):
but you know, would need to increase his reps and
his snaps too, So this is somewhat problematic. Now, obviously
the Giants didn't throw the ball all that well in
their opener, but still.
Speaker 6 (07:35):
To me, you know, this is a time where you know,
you start, you don't really look at positions. You just
look at numbers. You're looking at players. You know, you
bring childrens back or whoever you bring back, or whoever
you bring in. They don't necessarily have to be cornerbacks
at this point. You got to just bring in bodies, right,
bring in somebody whoever your best safety is at coverage,
(07:58):
then he might have to be the guy.
Speaker 8 (08:00):
Slot and Thomas would probably fill that role among the
safeties depending on who they're matching up.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
Yes, right, yes, I.
Speaker 8 (08:10):
Don't know if you want to go nickel if they're
in two tight ends, but if you've got to cover
a tight end, then I would think Juan Ye Thomas
at least worked there in training camp.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
Some I like what you're saying about that bringing in
bodies versus position, but you think about last week what
happened versus Philly was all dink and dunk short and
I think you're gonna get that same thing this week
as well with Russell, you know, he doesn't stretch the
ball the way that he used to. So you're looking
at Slayton, Darius, Slayton Robinson and Neighbors being the wide
(08:42):
receivers and Neighbors being the one that you definitely have
to worry about not allow him to get loose.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
Their weakness is offensive line, right, Oh, absolutely, yes, of
the whole ship.
Speaker 6 (08:51):
That our defensive line puts as much precious possible so
that that corner that slot man, whoever cornerback or safe, yes,
so that he won't be under duress for four or
five seconds back there trying to cover someone in the
slot who most likely is a primary target.
Speaker 8 (09:09):
So when you have unfamiliar, not unfamiliar, inexperienced guys at cornerback,
is it easier to play zone or you want them
in man?
Speaker 4 (09:19):
What would you do?
Speaker 6 (09:21):
Whatever you play, it has to be simple, Okay, whatever
you play zone or man, I'm not particular to either one,
as long as you make sure you keep it as
simple as possible for the players. You know, if they're
gonna move, if there's movement, keep it simple, guys. If
there's movement in man, keep it simple. Movement in the zone.
Keep it simple, and we can do that against this team,
(09:44):
but once again in the trenches, we need to make sure.
And I saw good coverage in the back against Philadelphia
and I saw good pressure on Jalen Hurts in the game.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
But Jalen is Jalen.
Speaker 5 (09:56):
But you got to keep him in there.
Speaker 6 (09:57):
You got to keep him in there, and we should
have learned from last week. But having said that.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
Russell's not He's not teetering on a cane or anything.
But he is a guy.
Speaker 6 (10:06):
I mean, he is a guy that can gig Giftrige
five yards if he has to, if you let him
right the commanders didn't let him do that.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
We cannot let him do that in this game.
Speaker 8 (10:17):
If you look at what they did last this first week,
he completed seventeen or thirty seven passes, but eleven of
those were too wide receivers. The rest were running backs
tight ends.
Speaker 6 (10:31):
Is that why Neighbors were so pissed off in the game,
I guess, and he was going that different.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
Neighbors is pissed off because he has a bad quarterback.
They can't get the ball team. He got a bad team.
He just pissed off because he's in a situation where
the passes thrown to him are falling incomplete.
Speaker 8 (10:47):
So well, if you think about it, the pressure that
they put on Russell Wilson, he got sacked twice, eight
quarterback hits.
Speaker 5 (10:55):
But this is the other part.
Speaker 8 (10:58):
He had to run the ball eight times, so he's
not they're not calling quarterback draws for him, right right,
that's out of necessity because of the pressure. So they
didn't do a very good job. And I see where
they're starting left tackle. I saw that Andre Andrew Thomas
(11:20):
did not practice yesterday and he hasn't played since the sixth.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
Game of last year with Liz Frank.
Speaker 8 (11:26):
Yeah, he had a surgery after six games last year,
and so they're kind of bringing them along slowly. But
he didn't practice, and I saw where day Balls said that, well,
they're just trying to see what he can do these
next two days. But if he can't practice, they just
got their backup swing tackle out there.
Speaker 5 (11:45):
James Hudson.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
What was the score of the Commander's Giants?
Speaker 5 (11:49):
Came twenty one six.
Speaker 6 (11:51):
You know when you look at that twenty one, When
you look at that, it's amazing they hung on the
way they did. Oh no, and see That kind of
gives me little pause because that's what kind of coaching
comes into effect. You're doing the best of what your guys.
You know you don't have much, but you have no
twenty one points.
Speaker 8 (12:08):
Well, think about this, and I know it was six.
They had eleven snaps inside from the eight yard line
in and only came away. And it was two possessions
with one field goal, and then they turned it over
on downs because they had to go for it.
Speaker 5 (12:23):
They were so far behind, they moved, they got there.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
And see, but they got to look at those things,
got to look at those things.
Speaker 6 (12:33):
We found out from a lot of losing around here
as the team that was on the wrong end of that,
we showed that there were moments if we would have
made a play, it would have made some type of
a difference.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
It ended up being maybe a three score game, four
score game the way.
Speaker 6 (12:53):
It was last year, but there was a moment there
if you could have taken advantage of something that was
there to take advantage job and we blew it. It's
you know, it ends up being for nothing. But if
they would have made that play, the same thing. I'm
looking at this in the Giants game twenty one points.
(13:13):
You only got twenty one points on the New York Giants.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
And you let them score six and you're in the
red zone that many times. That's that's really that doesn't
make me feel too comfortable.
Speaker 8 (13:24):
You were talking about the Cowboys opener for you you
had just made that play, right.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Yeah, and put this on Daniels, the quarterback for the Commanders.
He missed two big throws, I mean, and that's that's
that would have extended it as well. And so you're
looking at it should have been a thirty five six,
It could have been forty two six, I mean, because
they were just that bad. The commander strokes could have
been twenty one thirteen though, absolutely, you see what I'm saying.
I mean, But when you look at the New York
(13:49):
Giants offense, it's just it has no rhyme or reason
to it right now, no flow at all, no balance
at all. And so that's where you get the elite
neighbors blow up on the side. But Mickey, can we
talk about the defense one time? This Cowboys defense, No,
the New York Giants defense. Talk about the Giants defense
versus the versus the Cowboys office.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
You tell me about this New York Giants defensive line.
Speaker 8 (14:14):
Well, I think that they've got some pass rushers that
you better be careful of between Burns Thibodeaux, uh and
the rookie Abdul Carter. And I just saw it. I
think it was in the one of the New York papers.
It was a calmness and it was like, can we
get all three guys on the field at the same time?
Speaker 5 (14:35):
Yeah, because I guess they were.
Speaker 8 (14:38):
They were using Carter as a back kind of a rotation,
and so he wanted all three guys on the field
at the same time.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (14:49):
So yeah, you know, they they need to create a
pass rush. Uh. They didn't play well against the run.
But Jaden Daniel had eleven carries for sixty eight yards.
So does that sound familiar to what the Cowboys let.
Speaker 5 (15:06):
Hurts get away with?
Speaker 4 (15:08):
Right?
Speaker 8 (15:08):
And I know they rushed for what two hundred and
twenty yards, But when your quarterback rushes for sixty eight
that makes a huge, huge.
Speaker 6 (15:16):
I'll quarterback won't be doing that, I don't think. I mean,
he's in good shit, h he won't know trying to
get down the field.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
Let's hope.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Let's just hope and pray that he doesn't have to
run for sixty eight sixty eight yards. You could put
the onus on Williams to be well to carry.
Speaker 8 (15:31):
The low absolutely, but again, if the pass rush starts
getting in the way, then Dak's gotta go.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Well before we get to the before you get to
the pass rush. You were talking about the two hundred
yards that they gave up, and to me, that's the
biggest thing that you know, as for a Dallas Cowboys
team that came into the season saying we got to
run the ball, this team gave up two hundred and
twenty yards on last.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
Week, steady diet. That's all I'm getting though, But remember
eighty seven of those yards were was the quarterback and.
Speaker 8 (16:06):
One debo nineteen yard run. So you know, if you
gave up what one hundred and I don't know what
it comes to, one hundred and twenty yards or what
are one hundred and thirty yards, that's still a lot.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
I'll take great production.
Speaker 8 (16:18):
I'll take that because the Cowboys had one hundred and
nineteen last week.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
I'll take that.
Speaker 8 (16:22):
Yeah, and so, and against what you considered a better
defensive front in Washington.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Did you watch the play the Debo run the nineteen
twenty yard run. Yes, you know what I thought about when.
Speaker 4 (16:34):
I saw that?
Speaker 5 (16:34):
Would you like him on your team?
Speaker 4 (16:36):
No? No, I didn't think that. I thought about it.
I did.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
I thought about your guy. I thought about your guy,
covent A Turpin. I said, that is the perfect play
for Covente Turpin. They did like a bunch of trips,
bunch formation. Devo goes in in motion, circles back around
and then comes back the other way like a reverse.
They couldn't stop it. They had it blocked up very well.
And seat Nahmer has that in his playbook.
Speaker 5 (16:58):
So yes, he does. I saw it.
Speaker 6 (16:59):
Do you think think that has something to do with
the over aggression of the defensive ends?
Speaker 3 (17:04):
Did they hold it is? I'm gonna take you something well.
I watched Thibodeau and he takes place off. He is
one of those guys he will on that nineteen yard run.
Watch Thibodaux on that, and he we see you. You
got a loaf on that. When we got back to
film stuff, I'm sure they saw that. Cowboys see that. Yeah,
So gods take breaks. And I don't know what the
deal is between Burns and abdual Carter As far as
(17:25):
you know, abdual Carter came in asking for Lawrence Taylor's number. Uh,
now he's sitting on the bench to start this season off.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
It's not a good one. I don't know what number
did he end up getting. That's all that we white
might not see him fifty one, fifty one.
Speaker 5 (17:43):
But see he by the way at Penn State War eleven.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
If that just reads just can't you know what, there's
no way we can get away with no? Well, what
about their secondary? Their secondary for the Giants? What did
you see in that secondary and where we could take advantage?
Speaker 8 (18:02):
Yeah, I didn't see anything there That just scared me.
I just think you got to block it up front
and to where you started credit this offensive line. Right,
none of these five guys played a game together, I
mean a snap. They didn't play in preseason.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
Right.
Speaker 5 (18:22):
You add a rookie. Geiton got hurt. I think it
was July.
Speaker 8 (18:27):
Twenty eighth, and he didn't have a padded practice until
the week of the game. And they went out there
and I thought they played well. Taken play better, I
thought they played well. But I thought they played well.
Considering the fact that you're starting a rookie there, you're
starting a second year center and then Geiton with a
second year and he barely had any practice getting ready
(18:51):
for the game.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
What did you think about his game?
Speaker 8 (18:55):
I think it was I thought I saw improvement. It
wasn't perfect, but I thought it was improvement over last year.
Speaker 5 (19:02):
I thought he fought better, not meaning the swing he
took it.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
I like that that he meant. I liked that.
Speaker 5 (19:11):
You know what it reminded me.
Speaker 8 (19:13):
It reminded me of Eric Williams, who would do whatever
possible the guy.
Speaker 5 (19:21):
And it's like.
Speaker 4 (19:23):
Favor I thought Nate Newton was his favorite. Then they left.
Speaker 8 (19:27):
They left Eric, but that that's what it reminded me of. Okay,
if you're going to scrap.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
Let's go left. And then uh, Larry Allen was his face.
Speaker 5 (19:37):
Because those guys, you know that they delivered.
Speaker 8 (19:39):
It was the offensive attitude like Hailey on defense, because
Haley would do he scared people because they didn't know
what he'd do to beat him, like he what he'd
try right, and and and and that put fear.
Speaker 6 (19:55):
Off the field has a lot to every Yeah, I
saw what he did in the club the other day.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
And some of these guys don't have a mean rep
like those guys off the field.
Speaker 6 (20:06):
But I think Guden, uh you know, I think Guiden
can live up to that, uh, that reputation.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
Yeah, you know.
Speaker 5 (20:13):
I thought he was better on his feet and he
was better.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
He didn't he didn't overspend like a lot. You know,
I thought he stayed within himself.
Speaker 8 (20:22):
It's too many times it was like being over like this,
and you can't block that way.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
I almost don't want to judge him off of what
I saw from him, and as a rookie. Yeah, I
felt like, you know, out of the frying pan, into
the fire was what his rookie season looked like. So
it was good to actually see him fighting in there,
like Mickey was not getting pushed around, not getting bullied
and yeah, and he and he literally brought the fight
with him getting a line they saw saw a couple
(20:49):
of time PFF was showing where his alignment was off.
Those are all things that you could go back to
film study and get corrected. But we are going to
take our first break here on mix shots. And I
just want to say today is the twenty fourth anniversary

on mix shots at job.

Speaker 5 (23:54):
He's gotta he's gotta deal with the head coach.
Speaker 4 (23:56):
Gotta deal with the head coach with him. But I
had to. I got a question for you guys about
the wide receives. I tried.
Speaker 3 (24:02):
I wasn't spinning a narrative, Mickey when I was talking
about George Pickens, not in his targets. But this is
a game that I think that you come into saying
that you gotta look number three's way.
Speaker 8 (24:16):
Well, I think you got to look his way all
the time. I don't think they purposely ignored him last week.
I think that's kind of the way it turned out.
Look if Ceedee Lamb catches three of those passes, you
ain't even asking that right.
Speaker 4 (24:32):
Well, now, that's why he's just looking at me. And
I had.
Speaker 5 (24:40):
But but but here's what happens in the media. Right.
Speaker 8 (24:44):
He had to ask the answer the question yesterday first game, Oh,
did you not get enough targets?
Speaker 4 (24:51):
You know?
Speaker 8 (24:51):
And to his credit, he answered the way he should
have answered it. It's like, I'm out there to play
the ball comes my way, and he basically said, well,
does pass interference count?
Speaker 4 (25:03):
Right?
Speaker 8 (25:04):
I mean, that was a catch, that was a huge
that was a touchdown, right, and it set up a touchdown,
So I think we forget about those.
Speaker 5 (25:13):
That's another stat.
Speaker 8 (25:14):
That needs to be added somewhere in the quarterback gets
robbed the passing yards, the wide receiver gets yard robbed
of a catch, but.
Speaker 4 (25:23):
The offense benefits.
Speaker 8 (25:24):
Yeah, right, you know, and if you're a team guy,
then everything's fine. And basically that's how he answered the question.
But again right away, that had to be the first question.
Speaker 6 (25:35):
Well, you know, when you have a reputation that he
had coming from Pittsburgh. I brought it up before where
they were looking for him as the media and he's
in the weight room by himself, upset about whatever just happened,
and that happened a lot.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
He was with Russell Wilson.
Speaker 6 (25:50):
That happened a lot in Pittsburgh towards the end of
the season because that's just the way it went. Plus
wide receivers being divas, so the media was obviously they're
looking for, you know, for something. I mean, we lost
the game. It was a good game, A lot of
drama went on. They were just going to add to
the drama. No big deal. He didn't bite, which is
a good thing. But I don't want to get I
don't want to give him that many opportunities to have
(26:11):
an attitude.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
I want to make sure that this guy is happy.
Speaker 6 (26:15):
Schottenheimer seems to be able to communicate with him up
until this point.
Speaker 4 (26:20):
I'm not looking forward to any problems.
Speaker 6 (26:23):
But I can't tell you when he caught that ball
on the sideline, that was a beautiful catch. You know,
he's got the he's got the hands that is perfect
for Dak's passes.
Speaker 4 (26:33):
Becaux passes are not always you know, fired in there.
Speaker 5 (26:36):
Got an incredible catch radius.
Speaker 6 (26:39):
He does and just you saw it. It was like
and the guy was trying to hit, you know, and
he's got it. Those are the kind of wide receivers
that are going to give you the sure catch nothing.
Speaker 4 (26:49):
On CD Lamb.
Speaker 6 (26:50):
Of course, that guy's freaking amazing. I'm not even talking
about that, just talking about how this guy plays coming
in here, he's going to be a guy in this game.
We've got cornerbacks that you can take advantage of. Yes,
I can see him as going off when we need him,
because to me, in this game, God established a run
first before we do anything.
Speaker 8 (27:11):
And if you saw the nature of the two guys
in training camp, like they would celebrate each other's doubt,
no doubt.
Speaker 5 (27:20):
I mean way out of us way right.
Speaker 8 (27:23):
I saw Ceedee Lamb run across the field to celebrate
with him in the end zone and vice versa.
Speaker 4 (27:29):
We all learn, in fact, we all learned.
Speaker 6 (27:31):
Yeah, And I think that as a team, we learn
we can't get along just being individuals, right, Yeah, I
know this. The Cowboys and everybody wants their start to
be higher than the other.
Speaker 4 (27:41):
This team. They said, if.
Speaker 6 (27:43):
You're going to go anywhere, you don't have enough talent
on this team to be individuals.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
You got to come together as a group.
Speaker 5 (27:49):
And somebody learned that lesson.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
Yeah, man, that you just said a mouthful there, and
I think where you could take advantage of What George
Pickens's skill set is against the Giants is his yards
after catch. You talked about the fact that the Giants defense,
you know, they're gonna pressure centric, so they're gonna be
sending guys up in Dak's face and so short things,
you know, any of those things.
Speaker 4 (28:11):
But what he can do.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
Once the ball is in his hands, he is one
of the league leaders in YAK since he's been in
the league.
Speaker 6 (28:19):
And I mean he's gotta be fifty to fifty balls
as well. He's gotta be Yeah.
Speaker 5 (28:22):
Oh.
Speaker 8 (28:24):
The head coach basically pointed out that if if they
want a man George.
Speaker 5 (28:31):
Pickens, yeah, he's over.
Speaker 4 (28:32):
He's over. That's what he says. Right, he's over. That's right.
We all need to understand this.
Speaker 6 (28:38):
But at the same time, if I'm the Giants, let's
just look at what the Giants are gonna do. We
know we can't stop them run past. We're gonna blitz
our asses off. They are going to blitz that coming
all day long. So you better be ready. It's gonna
they're gonna they're trying to They're gonna try and make
this game as chaotic as possible, and we as a
(28:58):
team accept for last week, have not shown to react well,
especially early in games, to a lot of pressure coming
at you, and because we don't have great communication at.
Speaker 4 (29:10):
The beginning of game.
Speaker 6 (29:11):
We've already ironed it out at times in the second half,
but you can't.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
You don't have time for that.
Speaker 8 (29:18):
Well, the other thing happened opposite of that in that game,
because they scored on their first four possessions if you
think about, and then shut it down the second half.
But they didn't shut it down until they lost the
fumble at the eleven yard. Like Schottenheimer, I think it
was after the game he tried to explain what the
coverage was and that they were doing sort of a
(29:39):
cloud on pickings, and for some reason they thought of
Dori Jackson's going to take on CD Lamb.
Speaker 5 (29:46):
Man.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
Man, that's the gamble that every team's going to have
to gamble that way though, and everybody what happened, I'm
I got.
Speaker 5 (29:53):
This corner is gonna take out CD Lamb. Oh, good
luck with them.
Speaker 6 (29:56):
You saw what happened. Yeah, I know, the bench, he
ended up on the bench. Then they bought in another guy.
Speaker 5 (30:01):
They brought somebody else, right, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (30:04):
And once again they were not effective on CD.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
CD just had it himselves, so media storm all week
for CD LAMB and the drops. This is a game
where you feel like obviously establishing the run being number one,
but number two him for himself feeling better this game.
What do you I mean for him going through it
but also coming in here on his off day at
(30:27):
the drugs machine all of that. This has to be
a game for number eighty eight where he has to
come in and get some catches to feel better.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
And he will.
Speaker 8 (30:35):
You know what the other offshoot was when you're worrying
about those two guys the tight end down the middle.
Now Dak missed once he was short. Fergie in the
end zone had one, and then I think there was
another one that the linebacker dropped far enough to cover Ferguson.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
But that guy.
Speaker 8 (30:59):
It's like, you can't zone everybody, right, you can't man everybody,
and if you're gonna worry about those guys on the outside.
And they really didn't exploit it that much with Cavante Turpin,
but in training camp that was one of the things.
He was catching the ball ten fifteen yards down the field,
not just junk passes, So that's another thing.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
This would be a good game to not just try
it out.
Speaker 5 (31:24):
Yeah, but you gotta block it up.
Speaker 6 (31:26):
Yeah you got. You have to run the play. Let's
be successful in running the play. Let's not just try
anything just to fool them. Let's make every play able
to break if you can. I mean, that's why we
have exciting players on this team, not so we can
just get ten fifteen yards. Sometimes somebody make a mistake,
it's gonna break. Because it broke on us more than
(31:47):
a few times last year.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
Yeah, teams are gonna have to pick their poison. With
the Dallas Cowboys wide receivers, Jake Ferguson six targets, five catches,
just twenty three yards. And so obviously you got to
be a lot bigger with your third wide receiver because
of the hey it will. And again I think this
from last season coming into this one, this is one
of these games where you've got to feel like more
confidence in your third wide receiver receiver, whether it's Ferguson
(32:11):
or whether it's Turf. But for me, my money, I'm
going right back to eighty eight because I need his
confidence to be back on a million because the way
that he left that game, I just didn't like it.
I didn't like the oral and I didn't like what
people were saying about one of the clutch wide receivers
in the NFL.
Speaker 6 (32:28):
The only thing that makes me feel better about that
is he's showing up outside. That's the only thing that
makes me feel better about that. If he comes in
and he doesn't show any type of remorse or whatever,
he cares, yeah, yeah, I mean, you know, and sometimes
you can say, oh, that's just show or whatever.
Speaker 5 (32:46):
But you know, but he cared after the game too.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
Yeah, he sat the music too.
Speaker 5 (32:51):
Yeah, right after the game.
Speaker 8 (32:54):
I don't know how they're going to play their secondary,
but my first play of the games was slant to see.
Speaker 4 (33:00):
There you go, There you go.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
There's no Vegas odds on that.
Speaker 4 (33:05):
I just said it Vegas odds on that.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
But we will come back if we're gonna talk about
number four because Dak has to come up big in
this matchup coming up next on mix shots, Look, school.
Speaker 9 (33:23):
Is starting and I'm just a kid, and let's be honest,

about Dak Mickey, was there any footing on the Jadavian
Clowney signing?
Speaker 8 (35:56):
Well, the defensive coordinators said, the past rushers are hard
to find, but will look at that and nothing new
on Clowney. So my intel from yesterday, you know he
stayed here after the visit.
Speaker 4 (36:16):
I don't know if they had to.
Speaker 5 (36:18):
I don't think they worked him out.
Speaker 8 (36:20):
Uh, it sounded like they were going to sign him,
and then he watched practice and left without a contract.
So Iberfu said, nothing new on it. My guess is
he wanted more money than they were offering.
Speaker 6 (36:43):
Come on now, he heard about the yeah, and he
tried to come in here.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
Yes, thank you, thank you for saying I made a
rookie mistake. Man Bill Jones is here. Came back from
break after the read addressed it.
Speaker 12 (36:59):
And going to Clown because that's because the star of
the show, Mickey Spagnola, and the break said I need
to say something about Clown.
Speaker 5 (37:08):
I hid. Yeah, Well he was here.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
He's big.
Speaker 8 (37:14):
When I told you, when I told you, when I
told you, I think I walked by him.
Speaker 5 (37:19):
I saw this big guy and the blouse.
Speaker 8 (37:22):
The blousey blousy, I said, BLOUSI sweatshirt and it was him.
Speaker 5 (37:30):
And uh, he watched practice.
Speaker 8 (37:33):
He was up there with Josh Brent and you know
they were watching from the upper deck there above the
weight room, and it sounded like they were going to
sign him, and then he left.
Speaker 5 (37:43):
So but again he might have been spoiled last.
Speaker 8 (37:49):
Year by Carolina signing him to a two year, twenty
million dollars deal with twelve million guarantees.
Speaker 5 (37:56):
That ain't happening here.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
Now, nobody's going to let him. Burnie made off like that.
He's not going to get that deal here.
Speaker 8 (38:01):
So they I mean, if you turn them away, if
you walked in here with ten sacks, now.
Speaker 6 (38:06):
That's a different but not well his day the Eagles
that his name. If I'm a player and I walk
in here to the.
Speaker 5 (38:14):
Star, yeah, yeah, you think you're big time.
Speaker 6 (38:18):
Come on, man, you want to be big time, but
then you don't pay me big time?
Speaker 4 (38:22):
Right, that's gonna be my name. They took him to
the Cowboy Club. Well the Cowboy Club was like, oh man.
Speaker 8 (38:31):
But see the year before the year before when he
was in Baltimore, they paid him like the Cowboys paid
Givante Williams, like three and a half million or something
like that. And then Carolina goes in. It's like, oh, yeah,
this was clowney. We're going to sign him and and
they they gave him a big signing bonus and then
(38:53):
they said, wow, we needed salary cap money, so we're
going to save seven point eight million. But they ended
up with six million dead because of the guarantees they gave.
Speaker 5 (39:03):
Them, guaranteed them twelve million dollars.
Speaker 12 (39:05):
So he was when we went to Baltimore, he was
going he was chasing a ring. Yeah, he went to Carolina,
he wasn't chasing.
Speaker 5 (39:11):
Well, chasing the ring. He ended up with nine and eight.
Speaker 4 (39:13):
He wasn't back ring at Carolina.
Speaker 8 (39:17):
Funny guy, and he probably played with better guys on
the defensive front in.
Speaker 5 (39:24):
Baltimore, hence the nine and a half which helps him.
Speaker 3 (39:27):
Yeah, right now, that's well, I'm gonna give you the
cliff notes to the show, catch you up on what's
going on.
Speaker 4 (39:33):
So basically, not just me, but others would make joint. Absolutely.
So here's the deal.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
We've been talking about the New York Giants defense, all right,
talking about that the strength being their front seven and
how they gave up two hundred yards. We need Williams
to double that effort and not rely on Dak's legs
for anything. We also talked about our guy George Pickings
and targeting him more, but also the bounce back game
for CD after if you call this a bounce back
(39:59):
game after having one hundred and ten yards, but the
drops being one thing to get his confidence back and
so now you are caught up to speed.
Speaker 12 (40:06):
And the cornerback position and in the corner there you
go and uh and you have updated on what I
reflu said about the cornerback possess. Okay, one thing, when
I was looking at the Giants last night, have have
you got their injury report?
Speaker 4 (40:20):
What does it like to do?
Speaker 12 (40:21):
What does it say about Michael McFadden.
Speaker 5 (40:24):
Oh, that was the other thing I was going to
bring up. He did not practice and they're.
Speaker 12 (40:29):
We're seeing an interview with his replacement, Darius Muis.
Speaker 4 (40:33):
How is it moois ou?
Speaker 12 (40:35):
Well, I'm going I'm going with that. Okay, Well, it
could be it could be different than that. Go with
Darius number fifty three, Yes, okay. And it's actually if
you go look at that game, McFadden got hurt and
then the next play or maybe in the second play,
(40:57):
fifty three came in and right it snap, it was
like Kingsbury, he knew it. He We're going to take
advantage of this linebacker just came in the game. They're
down in the red zone and they've set the formation
right and at the snap, fifty three doesn't even know
who he's got and so but who he had was
(41:18):
zach Ertz. And Ertz ran a little out and in
and touchdown Washington.
Speaker 8 (41:24):
Which, by the way, they I read a story where
McFadden is out he needs footserver.
Speaker 4 (41:29):
Yeah, and that's what that's in.
Speaker 12 (41:32):
Listening to Darius Muissole's interview yesterday, it sounded like he
was they were hoping that he would come back late
in the season. But anyway, there's potentially now now he
made seven starts last year, fifty three did. But and
it just may just be one play where he got
thrown into the mix and he's confused, and they've got
a full week to prepare, but they're down a linebacker,
(41:54):
and so there's some something that were publishment will take
advantage of a guy with he's a second year player.
Speaker 4 (42:00):
Out of UCLA. What did you think about this subject,
Cliff Kingsbury play calling, Well.
Speaker 12 (42:07):
I mean I was focused more in on the Giants
just watching the game last night. I mean, I've you know,
I've always thought that at the NFL, his you know,
that's his strength, his strength was not being a head
coach because he's not great as far as he's in
some ways, he's socially awkward and you know, and Uh.
(42:27):
In fact, I was yesterday was talking to a guy
who coached with him who said that the very same thing.
Speaker 6 (42:33):
And but as far as he's in his head a lot, yeah,
kind of like Lanzard, you know, Yeah, my guys there
in their heads a lot.
Speaker 4 (42:39):
Exactly right.
Speaker 12 (42:40):
And but as far as drawing up plays and everything, yeah.
Speaker 3 (42:44):
I thought he was in it. I thought he was
in his bag and and you know, like he was,
he was dowling it up. And when we were talking
about the play that Deebo, the nineteen yard run from Deebo,
I thought that was eerily familiar to what we see
with Shotty. And so as a play caller, the ability
to mix things up, I kind of see them one A,
(43:04):
one B in that regard. So the play calling for me,
I think versus this Giants defense has to be spot on.
And we talked about the balance with the running game.
I'm still trying to figure out this great Giants defense
giving up two hundred and twenty yards rushing.
Speaker 4 (43:18):
I'm like, man, is that just you know, first.
Speaker 3 (43:20):
Week of the season blues for these guys or was
it just the scheme that beat them well?
Speaker 12 (43:25):
And then these edge rushers, I mean, how well do
they defend the run. Brian Burns caveon Thibodeau. Are they're
guys that are intent on getting to the quarterback and they.
Speaker 6 (43:36):
Do after a lot of crevice is open for Daniels,
just like we did for Jalen Well.
Speaker 12 (43:41):
And they had the rookie second pick in the draft,
Abdul Carter. They were moving him around and I mean
he was lining up as an inside linebacker at times,
getting all three of the guys on the field at
the same time. Well, when he lines up an inside linebacker,
let's run the football. See see how you can defend
the run.
Speaker 8 (43:58):
Well, the Giants people are sitting there talking about, well,
you know, Philadelphia ran for one hundred and fifty eight
yards on this defense.
Speaker 5 (44:05):
We're going to run the ball.
Speaker 8 (44:07):
But take into count the most quarter leading rusher was
the quarterback, and the leading rusher for Washington was the quarterback.
Speaker 6 (44:17):
And see the Hegema brought up something that was done
in the game against the Redskins. As a defense, you
have to know what your offense is trying to do.
You have to know what the opposing offense is trying
to do, so you won't be so confused.
Speaker 4 (44:36):
We seen confused defensively.
Speaker 6 (44:38):
All last year as if we had no practice, I
had no idea what was going on. It wasn't just
that we were being outplayed, we were being out thought.
Speaker 4 (44:48):
As a defense.
Speaker 6 (44:50):
When you have a defense that's inline and knows what's
going on on the other side, anticipation is the key.
Speaker 4 (44:56):
Look at you look at the setup. You know what
they're trying to do.
Speaker 6 (44:59):
You know what kind of defense they have, and as
a unit, yes, you understand what they're trying to do.
Is there so many times where you see a defense
they recognize the formation. Everybody's going around, looking around, waving
their hands. This is what we're talking about, and the
play gets stuffed. We don't have that here yet. That's
something that we can do as a group. We can
(45:19):
do that as a group. I talked about we don't
have the great individuals, but as a group, when you
come together as a group, not only do you have
better stop plays defended, you have.
Speaker 4 (45:28):
Fewer players getting hurt.
Speaker 6 (45:30):
When you see a player get hurt, most of the time,
it's because that player is in an unfamiliar position, he's
out of position.
Speaker 4 (45:37):
It's something's going on.
Speaker 6 (45:38):
So now you forget about your body language and all
of that next thing, you know, you twist your knee
just after the play is over, something trivial like that.
Speaker 4 (45:47):
These are the kind of things happened to the Cowboys
a lot last year.
Speaker 6 (45:50):
That does not happen to good defenses that are coached well.
I didn't see that happen last week. Even though we
gave up some yards to say, Kwan, we could have
given up more. We all came to the game, we
all came to the ball. That's the kind of things
we're going to have to continue all year long if
we want to be content in this NFC East.
Speaker 8 (46:12):
Because if I told you before the game, say chron
was going to get sixty yards.
Speaker 4 (46:16):
We talked about we'll take it, Yeah, we'll take.
Speaker 12 (46:19):
It three and a half yards of carry, yeah yeah.
Speaker 4 (46:22):
And it worked for us.
Speaker 6 (46:23):
What didn't work for us was a smart ass quarterback
who knows what we're trying. Once again, he knows what
we're trying to do. Well was successful and he said,
you know what, I can count it that myself. Y'all
go ahead and keep doing what you're doing. I'm going
to scramble for this touch.
Speaker 8 (46:37):
That's what Jerry Daniels did last week, right the Giants.
Speaker 3 (46:40):
So Dak Prescott twenty nine. That's okay, Dak Prescott twenty
nine touchdowns versus the Giants. How many does he end
this game with?
Speaker 4 (46:50):
Guys? Round table? Two? Three?
Speaker 12 (46:53):
The first number that came to mind for me was three,
So I go with three.
Speaker 4 (46:58):
So he finishes with thirty two touchdowns versus the Giants.
Well eight, how many times have we beaten them? Eight
in a row?
Speaker 5 (47:05):
But he's thirty thirteen in a row.
Speaker 8 (47:08):
And you know when he lost his rookie year, he
lost twenty one twenty and ten to seven twenty one
twenty was the first game of the season, and then
later in the year ten to seven, and he mean
what just him and the one game and the one
game the Giants won that like the Cowboys have won
(47:29):
fifteen of sixteen.
Speaker 5 (47:30):
The one they lost won.
Speaker 8 (47:33):
Was was Andy Dalton at quarterback the last game of
the twenty twenty season.
Speaker 5 (47:38):
But Andy Dalton won one name for Dack when he
got hurt. That's right, he lost. No, he won the
first meeting and then just when they got.
Speaker 3 (47:47):
Hurt in yeah, Bill, thank you for missing today, miss
any time.
Speaker 4 (47:54):
You know, I don't think you.
Speaker 12 (47:55):
Have to wear what I said that because I was
just telling my daughter, Yes, your day of the story
of Wally Pip.
Speaker 3 (48:01):
Yeah, don't worry about it. I think I think you're
good around here.
Speaker 4 (48:06):
Send us somebody, are you, Wally?
Speaker 12 (48:13):
We got all our picks Tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (48:15):
We need another segment.
Speaker 6 (48:17):
You're not taking another.
Speaker 12 (48:20):
All right, So let's fight song Friday tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (48:23):
Here on Mixed Shots, Oh Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (48:26):
This has been a production of dallascowboys dot Com and
