Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
This is Nick Shot screaming live on Dallascowboys dot Com
and the official Dallas Cowboys at now Here are Bill Jones,
Heckma Harrison, Everson Walls, and Mickey Spagnola.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Dallas how Boy.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Yes, that's fight Songs Friday. You're on mixshottam. No, you
gotta love. Let's get your fired up. We'll get you
fired up for football, right absolutely? Okay. Everson Walls is
not fired up for football. Apparently called in sick today.
I don't know if he's sick or not, but he
called in.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
It's a holdout.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
He's holding in and holding out at the same time.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
There's a negotiation going on here with since.
Speaker 5 (01:12):
He's at that undisclosed place.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
In New Mexico. Oh okay, all right, Well he's not here,
but he does have his picks.
Speaker 5 (01:19):
That's what I would always say. Last year, he would
never tell us where he was going. So I'm going
there's seats.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Typically on a fight song Friday too. Yeah, So this
is becoming a habit. This is two in a row.
Now that Everson has not been here. We're keeping track,
but we did send us picks in and so we
of course will have our picks to click.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
We are a.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Couple of days now away from the home opener high
noon kickoff at AT and T Stadium against the New
York Football Giants. By the way, it's the first time
that the Cowboys have played the Giants in a noon
game at home since two thousand and five. Two thousand
and five seed since the last time the Cowboys and
(02:02):
Giants at AT and T Stadium or Texas Stadium did
not merit a three to twenty five or later kickoff.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
And in the I understand it's become popular the one
thousandth game in franchise.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
This is the one thousandth game regular season game in
franchise history.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
But I saw that the other day. When did did
they do something oppress about that? The one thousand release?
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (02:24):
That way, it is right, okay, one k yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Okay, thank you, mickey. I can see it clearly.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
Do they have the all time record there? That's okay.
If they don't, okay, I'm thinking it's a winning record though,
you think all right? I thank you, so, I think.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
So, all right?
Speaker 5 (02:41):
I got past those first what six Yeah, for a.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
While there it was not but all right, so much
to get to as we break down this matchup with
the Giants. We had Thursday Night football last night as
well as we did. We've got some availabilities or lack
of availabilities for Sunday to talk about as well, and
what that means for this Dallas defense. I'm going to
(03:04):
start with Deron Bland.
Speaker 5 (03:06):
Yes, as we pointed out, I believe yesterday. I don't
know if you were here at that point or not.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Right, I was a later rival.
Speaker 5 (03:14):
He Yeah, he will miss multiple games, and so that
includes Sunday's game against the Giants, which creates a little
bit of a dilemma for the Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
And shot Brian Schottenheimer said he'll miss Sunday's game with
a foot injury, does not put a timetable on his return,
and ready Stewart, ready or not, we'll get quite a
bit of action against the Giants.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
And he, by the way, was going to be the
guy in the slot this the season opener, had Digs
not been able to go play. So yeah, it just
makes sense that they'll go with him there. And you
got so that that puts a bigger priority on Trayvon
(04:06):
Diggs playing more than twenty seven snaps.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
Now.
Speaker 5 (04:09):
Schottenheimer also said, will it be the whole game?
Speaker 2 (04:12):
He said, we'll see.
Speaker 5 (04:14):
So I'm thinking he's got to play fifty snaps of course, right, yeah,
we can't be you know, lolly gagging around.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
It's okay, all right, dilly dally lolly gagging around.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
That's right, it's a lolly gagon Friday.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
But I think we came into the game knowing that
he was going to be on the pitch count from
the from the knee injury. I think we all were
just surprised that he played the first game because coming
out of camp, we were thinking it was going to
be a multiple games.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
That might be he may not even come off pup
well exactly.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
And it was more than the knee injury. It was
his conditioning that he wasn't ready to play. You know,
he hadn't had pads on since December ninth, I think
it was of last year. So, uh, they were needing
him to ramp up. Well, I think ramping up and
he can ramp up in the game. He's got to go, yeah,
(05:07):
because just think if he you know who's going to
be the other outside linebacker if Diggs is not in
the game and they're in two cornerback set bridges, I mean,
by process of elimination unless and I'm assuming they're going
(05:28):
to elevate.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Elevate Childrenion Childress, I.
Speaker 5 (05:34):
Mean, they almost have to just to have enough cornerbacks
to survive a game.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
I don't know you want to do.
Speaker 5 (05:40):
That, because children Is for the majority of training camp
and preseason was playing in the slot also.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
And just to familiarize people with Ready Steward, because of
course Reddy Steward was not with the Cowboys throughout training
camp or preseason games, but he was a pickup right
at the roster cut down from the Vikings and last
in twenty twenty four, he got into one game with
(06:08):
the Chicago Bears, and of course Matt Eberflus was the
head coach last year of the Chicago Bears, so there
was the familiarity there and one tackle in his National
Football League career.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
But he got to play quite a bit in preseason
for the Bears, and that's where he kind of made
his mark.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Last year with the Bears.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
Last year with the Bears, and he had he had.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
A pick six he had or maybe two picks.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
Picks, yeah, but I think the second one was in
the last game, last preseason game, and it was a
pick six because he intercepted right about midfield and on
the run, so he broke on the ball. And he's
at least had experience playing in the slot, probably more
(07:00):
so than playing outside. In college, he was the guy
had twelve interceptions and I think two seasons in Troy
at Troy and so and a bunch of returns for
touchdowns too, So I think he's probably got the most
experience playing in the slot. So he's got to go
(07:23):
and Bridges has got to be ready on the outside
if they need another outside corner.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
By the way, speaking of pick sixes, he had three
pick sixes in college at three I say five, so
well five if you going to include his preseason action too.
Oh so, anyway, about five eleven hundred and seventy eight pounds,
that's typical slot size. And so there you go, there's
ready Steward for you.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
And he said he's ready. He said, you've got to
be ready to go when your numbers called.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
So well, that's what gives the challenge to eba Flus
in a game like this even from last week, you know,
presenting that pressure on a guy like Russell Wilson. You know,
look when I look at the wide receivers, especially look
at looking at the body of work that they had
last week, I'm not as concerned with this receiving group
as I was with the receiving group last week. And
(08:11):
you know, having that familiarity with Ibraflus's system, I think
really makes it where a guy like Store can step
right in and you don't have to worry about the
cobwebs or at least his familiarity with the defense. But
I think for ebra Flus this is going to be
a challenge to flushing out a quarterback like Russell Wilson
and presenting a ton of pressure.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
And I don't know, I know you have healthy respect
for elite neighbors though.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
No, of course I do.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
Right, Yeah, he's that one guy. I'm saying you got
to pay attention to him. And when you don't have
Deron Bland and you're gonna rely on a Trayvon.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
Here's the deal with the Giants receivers. If the Giants
had the Eagles offensive line, then those Giants receivers might
be more well thought of around the league than what
they are. But they haven't been able to establish much offensively,
a lot of it because they're quarterback doesn't have much
time to throw because they've got problems on their offensive line.
(09:05):
But in fact, we're doing the little Telestrator segment with
Will McLay yesterday for the Coaches Show. The first thing
that he talked about was these wide receivers and starting
with Milik Neighbors, and it's it's like the Giants have this,
this prototype and their scouting department, this is what we
(09:26):
want in a wide receiver, whether it's Milik Neighbors or
Darius Slayton or Wandale Robinson, who, by the way, last
year had one hundred and forty targets and ninety three
catches last year. Yeah, but they're all they're all four
to three five guys, so they have great speed, they
have forty verticals. It's like you go down the line,
(09:46):
they're five wide receivers. No matter what size they are,
there are four to three five guys with forty verticals. Yes,
so they're athletic guys. But and Milik Neighbors is as
good as any receiver in the in the league.
Speaker 5 (09:58):
Well, I think I don't Schottenheim or meant to tip
his hand or not. When you were talking about pressure
and he was talking about ready, uh, and he said, uh,
you know, he's more comfortable inside. He has instincts and
he's a really good blitzer.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
Yeah, that tells you that that he tipped his hand.
So it couldn't help what's he doing? Yeah, he couldn't
help it.
Speaker 5 (10:23):
And you know what sort of in practice yesterday I
saw him doing a drill and it was they had
to kind of blocking dummies there and he was knifing
through the blocking dummies.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Don't now now now you're tilted. Now you're giving away everybody.
God gone.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
It was during the open during the open session.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
But Bill, I do have a healthy respect for this
wide receiver group. I'm just the way that I look
at this offense, especially especially with the way that it's
been running over the last couple of years, is they
don't have.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Anyone that can get him the ball.
Speaker 4 (10:59):
I mean, have all the talent in the world out there,
but when you can't block them up, no protection. We're
talking about a left tackle with a Liz Frank injury
that we know is not going to play these guys,
are you know Russell Wilson isn't protected when things break down,
he looks like a shell of himself. And I'm thinking
for ebra Flus and what he did, especially against Jalen Hurts,
you don't even have to really change much for the
(11:20):
blueprint going into this game.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
You just have to smoke this guy out of the pocket.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
And once he's out of the pocket, I think that's
where a guy like Ready Stewart talk about his pick
sixes and all those things. Guys like that can absolutely
feast on this offense.
Speaker 5 (11:34):
So I don't know if this is a smoke screen
or not. But after listing Andrew Thomas as a DNP
on Wednesday, he was limited yesterday.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
Is that right?
Speaker 3 (11:43):
Yeah? And they cut down. In fact, I need to
go checking the Giants today to see if anything's been
posted on him yet today. I'm not sure how they
do their practice schedule there, but it came down to
Friday last week before they ruled him out, and so
he was he was getting closer last week. That may
(12:07):
make a difference to I couldn't myself, but anything else
that you need to get us up to speed on
in terms of readiness for the game.
Speaker 5 (12:19):
I think they're still not actually for the game. But
Shottenheim pointed out that he did talk yesterday to Clowney
even though he left without an agreement, and I think
he was still shopping around. And my question when I
(12:39):
was told he was shopping around, it's like, oh, didn't
get enough money.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Did he?
Speaker 5 (12:44):
And I think that they made a legitimate offer, but
not something like Carolina paid.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
Him last year.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
Is it true that if a guy is, you know,
walking the facility in the word gets out that other
teams are like, oh, Dallas is making a move, and
that they'll ping his agent to say, wait a minute,
don't before you sign.
Speaker 5 (13:05):
You don't know how many times that used to happen.
In the nineties, agents would do that all the time.
They would say, even if it wasn't true, well, the
Cowboys are interested, you know, and if you want the guy,
you better hurry up and paint that. And they would
do it. They'd lie because I'd go check and it's like, oh,
you guys are in on this.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
No, who said that?
Speaker 5 (13:27):
Yeah, I said, well it was reported, Well it was
an agent threw it out there. Because if the Cowboys
like a guy, everybody should like them.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
I could see it. In fact, what happened the other
day was right at the Cowboys club level. He's up
there watching practice, and so during the open media portion
of practice, reporters are able to get pictures of him,
and then once they were allowed to, they were able
to tweet those out. I could see other teams even saying,
(13:58):
let's make the Cowboys pay a little bit more for
this player if they want him, let's express a little
bit of interested Yeah.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
So anyway, he uh uh, they spoke to him yesterday,
but he you know, he left without a deal. So
I don't know how many how many weeks you want
to forfeit a portion of your salary looking for a
better deal. Uh, if it doesn't come around. And again,
it's not like they're desperate, but if you can take
(14:25):
advantage of opportunity, why not for the right price.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
Hey, Washington just lost a defensive end in last night's game,
diatrich twise, Uh, hebern High School goes down. It's a
season ending quad injury.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
Oh was that?
Speaker 3 (14:39):
And that was a big free agent signing for them
in the offseason. He played very well last week against
the Giants. If you go watch that, I hated for him. Uh,
and that, and so Washington's now in the market for
a defensive lineman. And so from Clowney's perspective, Uh, you know,
you wait another week and you don't know where kneeds
(15:00):
You're going to arise elsewhere around the league, and that could.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
Yeah, I'm watching this rotation in this game versus the Giants.
Something you said yesterday really kind of bother.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
It worried me.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
I had to go back and check the tape and
make sure I was seeing it right on the Giants
when you talk about those drives that didn't end in
points for them, but they were in scoring position, and
so those things indicate to me that they're just not
having success in a certain area. And Cowboy fans can
attest to what it feels like to not be able
to score once you get to the red zone.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Those are the things.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
When you started to see that, you started to see
the teams just basically clamp down on those guys. And
especially when you get into that short area, that's where
I think ebra Flus has to come up platinum. He
has to be able to present that pressure. We're talking
a lot about it, and that's why a guy like
Clowning is so important. Because what is his forte and
that's rushing the pass or getting after you and also
stopping a run. Basically came into the league being a
(15:57):
run stuffer at South Carolina.
Speaker 5 (16:00):
Well, when you have that many plays eight yards and
end and you only have one field goal, you got
to be able to run the ball. And they didn't
run the ball. Wilson ended up being the leading rusher
with forty four yards and those were scrambles, those weren't
quarterback runs. So yeah, and that's one thing this team
(16:24):
needs to understand because if you stop the run, then
your pass rush is more potent.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
If you make them one dimensional.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
And that pass rush has to get there. And hopefully
they watched the game last night to see.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
He got around to the game last night.
Speaker 5 (16:43):
The value of keeping a quarterback in the pocket, right,
Jalen Daniels. He didn't win the game this time running
around like he did in Circles over Detroit.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Right, did you watch number one on the other team?
On which team?
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Green Bay?
Speaker 3 (17:02):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (17:03):
I was trying to whip him in there and get
some more sacks. Need another loss in the NFC East, Right,
But yeah, they kept him in the pocket.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
A friend of mine, it's actually a friend of mine's son.
The son's a friend of mine too, but uh he's
now uh uh he texted me, Uh, I woke up
to the Texas morning. Oh, Michael looked pretty good last night,
they expect I texted him back and I said, when
has Micah not looked pretty good? And he said, good point.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
Yeah, I mean he makes he makes left tackles, right
tackles look average.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
I mean, and then he had a rookie Yeah. I mean,
so so backup.
Speaker 4 (17:48):
Had you in here last week talking about Seul not
being pretty good.
Speaker 5 (17:52):
Well, it wasn't in that game.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
Yeah, he's pretty damn good, Mike.
Speaker 4 (17:59):
It's just made him look like a pedestrian and he's
gonna do that to everybody. But I think your point,
to your point about that, I think Daniels didn't have it.
I mean even when he tried to run, he was
running into a defender. Even when he was looking up
the field trying to make a throw. I mean, that
defensive front for Green Bay just made him uncomfortable. And
it's nothing like seeing a second year quarterback still trying
(18:22):
to figure it out. And that's what you saw last night.
He doesn't have all the answers. And so when you
put him under pressure, just that I'm talking about Russell
Wilson in that same breath, you know, give make him
make the wrong read in a hurry. And Micah may
not have had two or three sacks, but it was
the pressures. For me, it was the being in your face,
(18:44):
making you uncomfortable, flushing you out of the pocket.
Speaker 5 (18:46):
Now you can double check me on this, but I
think Daniels got sacked like four times. And I think
I saw when they list quarterback hits it was twelve.
So he was under duress most of the game and
that's what you got. But he didn't run. I think
he ran for.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
Oh this is right. There's four twenty one pressures last night.
Speaker 5 (19:11):
And I don't know about the pressures. Quarterback hits and
pressures sometimes they put them together. Okay, all right, And
what did he run for? Seventeen yards?
Speaker 2 (19:19):
Yeah? So seventeen yards?
Speaker 3 (19:24):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (19:24):
Yeah, they stopped to run. They definitely stopped the run
and they.
Speaker 5 (19:27):
Kept him in the pocket. And that's what the Cowboys
have to do with Russell Wilson what they didn't do
with Jalen Hurts. Hurts ran circles around.
Speaker 4 (19:38):
Him, but In all fairness, though Green Bay had some
guys up front that I think all but everybody was
got to have.
Speaker 5 (19:46):
But they stayed in their lanes, didn't collapse. That is true,
and and that's the key. Even if you don't get
to him, make them run to play. And I guarantee
you when you play a guy like Daniels, you'd rather
have him throwing the ball running with the ball. And
I think it showed that last night.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Okay, we're just getting started on a Friday edition of
mix Shots. When we come back, how about trying to
exploit things on the Giants defense one of the Cowboys
offensive players need to do. Who's gonna step up in
this game when mix Shots continues?

Speaker 4 (23:44):
Get you up early, get out, you know, gets at
the stadium. Yeah, yeah, No, it's beautiful.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
I like I do like the Sunday morning drive out
because I have to get there about nine or so. Yeah,
me too, And uh it's easy in I mean if
you if you go early enough and you tailgate or whatever,
then it's great. I don't like I don't like any traffic,
but traffic leading up to game time where I'm stressed out.
(24:10):
I like going early and so, but there's something about
Sunday morning. What times full Sunday morning, make the little
drive You're like on a primetime game, you got to
deal with rush hour traffic and things like that. Pregame
show starts We Go ten thirty on CBS eleven thirty.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Yep, so that's early enough for you.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Yeah, so I just get out there about nine, get
my little prep in ahead of time, and have breakfast.
There we go. Yeah, all right, Cowboys versus this Giants defense.
We've talked about the big guys up front, the big
guy and the middle Dexter Lawrence, the guys on the edge.
(24:52):
Who is it that needs to step up? Who will
step up against this Giant's defense this week?
Speaker 5 (24:57):
What do you think that'll be? The whole offensive line?
Speaker 3 (25:00):
Right? And Dak has won thirteen in a row. CDs
won eight in a row against this Giants team.
Speaker 5 (25:08):
Two games to the Giants, and they were his rookie
year twenty twenty nineteen.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
Twenty nineteen was his first game seven.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
Yeah, I'm going Williams. You know, Williams has to be big.
Offensive line clearly has to be big. I thought with
Philadelphia and this I was so nervous for them against
Philadelphia because I felt like, before, you know, Haktua took
himself out of the game. Jayalen Carter, Yeah, I felt
like that was gonna be a big time challenge for
these guys. The rookie had to Booker had to live
(25:42):
up to the draft. But man, this is this is
one of those games where you talk about the guys
up front for the Giants, that's literally the same with
the playmakers and the big names that are up there.
Take the fight to them, established the line of scrimmage
and also get Javonte Williams his carries. Miles Sanders has
to atone for the fumble and the goal line. But
(26:03):
using both of these guys against this Giants team is
going to be very important. But also look beating them up.
This is for coach Bryan Schottenheimer that level of we
talked about culture, but the level of toughness that his
team has to be known for to go through the
NFC East. You're going to see these guys again, so
may as well set the tone early.
Speaker 5 (26:24):
Yeah, the offensive line has to you know, I thought
they that was maybe the most surprising part of the
first game, and I know Jalen Carter wasn't there, but
they had everybody else and they kind of handled it. Now,
can you do it again and step up a little
bit better because Dexter Lawrence is every bit to me,
(26:48):
every bit as good as Carter. And then they got
the pass rushers between Thibodeau, Burns and Abdu Carter. And
like I pointed out yesterday, I saw some calumnists in
one of the New York papers saying, Hey, I want
to see all three of those guys on the field
at the same time, three pass rushers, and I'm sure
they can do it.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
And they've they did it at times of last week
against Washington too.
Speaker 5 (27:11):
One of them inside, and you've got three pass rushers
on the field.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
Yeah, it's it's that.
Speaker 4 (27:17):
And also we talked a little bit about our tight end,
you know, being able to get Jake Ferguson involved in
this offense so that he can just soften the middle
of this secondary will allow you to get make plays
with guys like Ceedee Lamb and also George Pickings, so
he has to be a big part of this also,
and Mickey's guy, and Mickey's guy, cavunte That's what it is.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
Hand it to.
Speaker 4 (27:39):
You know what, when this show is over with, when
we're done with this, Sason, you're gonna love me like
Cavante Turpin. Like you love Cavante Turpin. That's how you
gonna love me. This is a game for Cavante Turpin.
He could absolutely explode in this game with the specialty
plays that they have with him, because look, the Giants
defense is overly aggressive. You know they're going to be
trying to get up the field to get and a
(28:00):
guy like Cavante Turpin could be huge in this game.
Speaker 5 (28:03):
Well, I thought Schottenheimer pointed out a good thing because
of the outside receivers with Ceedee Lamb and George Pickens.
They got to concentrate on those guys. So now you've
got basically a linebacker running with Jake Ferguson down the
middle of the field. And he was basically pointing out
that that's a great timing play that they have to
(28:26):
be better at than they were this pass game, Dak
came up a little bit short the linebacker got underneath it,
but if you can fit it over the linebacker and
before the safety, it's a pretty good weapon. Since they
got to can concentrate with their defensive backs on the
(28:46):
two outside guys, and then somebody's got to run with Turpin,
as you pointed out, out of the slot and they
don't have enough guys to cover and.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Hunter Lipke can we get an apb out on Hunter Lypke.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
You know, I was just thinking about that this morning
because I was like, I like studying other teams around
the league, and this morning I was looking at what happened.
And it takes me all week to go through all
the games that were played last week. I mean, we're
already one game into this week and I'm still studying
last week's in San Francisco Seattle game. I've always thought,
(29:20):
or at least in the last year or so, I've
thought that Hunter Lipkey is kind of the Kyle Ustchek
starter kit for the Cowboys. I'm not saying he's an
eight time, yes you are, but that's the call can
be used in that same way. And and us check
against Seattle last week had thirty eight snaps, okay, and
what did Lipke had made? Okay, eight snaps whatever. But
(29:45):
I thought that had the same thought that you had
okay on Lipkey. Okay, and when we've heard him talked
about so much by Schottenheimer, how much he loves him,
how much integral part of things he is on this offense.
And what I said to myself when I had that
thought was it's been one game. Okay, I'm overreacting to
one game. When I'm when I'm thinking that we got
(30:06):
to get through, you know, get let's get through September
and we'll have a much better idea of how guys
are going to be used, because some of it is
just specific game plan for whatever your opponent is.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
So, I mean, he is a he is a weapon,
and we've seen him in his use, especially out in
the flat, especially when you know, when they're in man
and everybody's taking off, That to me stops Dak from
taking off.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
He's the look.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
I don't want him to do it, all right, I
want Dak to stay in the pocket, run when you
need to. But if you got a hundred lifty's sitting
out there in the flat, get it to him. You know,
if he can block a chip or do some of
that and release out into the flat, use him like that,
because I know that this Giants defense, they don't this
Giants team, they don't want to go oh and two.
(30:53):
I mean oh and two for them, it would be tragic.
Speaker 5 (30:55):
So but then the other consideration you have, if he's
on the field, field, who's who's not on the field.
Speaker 4 (31:02):
I mean it's situational. Everything is situational football. So if
you know that, then you know you have to.
Speaker 5 (31:07):
Be able to running back. Is he the running back?
Speaker 2 (31:09):
Just depends depends.
Speaker 4 (31:10):
You can have an H back, you can have an
H back, you can put him in motion, you can
put him at tight end.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
Yeah, he's your second tight end. Yeah, somebody's like like
Schoonmaker comes off the field and lip Key is in
that role where you're where you can have a third
down back on the field at the same time.
Speaker 4 (31:27):
And I have no qualms about taking Schoolmaker off the
field when it comes down to needing somebody extra to
be in and block.
Speaker 5 (31:33):
So, but you're going to have if you're in Nickel
though you got three wide receivers, you can't have two
running backs, right.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
But everything is situational. So what I'm saying is, if
I can use Hunter Lipkey in a situation where I'm
chipping on Thibodeaux or just using him on the outside,
he doesn't have to play thirty Well you're talking about
us check played thirty nine snaps.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
If they give this kid fifteen, right.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
You know, I think that at least gets him into
the rhythm of a game and at least makes him
a viable threat to the defense.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
So Lipkey last year had four hundred and forty three snaps.
I don't have the percentage, but that's roughly over forty
percent of the offensive snaps last year with the with
the roster and assuming everybody whatever is not going to
stay healthy, but it's relatively healthy. How many what would
be ideal the percentage of snaps for Lipke throughout the season?
(32:22):
Thirty percent of the snaps that would be I mean,
if you get sixty five snaps in a game, you know,
twenty snaps, sixty snaps, twenty, it's thirty three percent.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
Whatever.
Speaker 5 (32:33):
Yeah, I think fifteen to twenty steps.
Speaker 4 (32:36):
So that's you know, I agree, thirty percent. I think
that's a good percentage for him, and that's a healthy workload.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
Because what happened last year was he basically was the
third down back. I mean because of his blocking ability
and being able to protect the quarterback. Yeah, I mean,
that was a role that especially once Rico became the
starter and then you know, basically that was That was
(33:02):
one of the things that surprised me about the running
back rotation, and what really showed me they love Lipke
is that he was basically the third down back last.
Speaker 5 (33:10):
Year and they had him all over the offensive formation
in practice during training camp, so I mean he was everywhere,
so yeah, that he only got eight snaps, they must
have had a reason on how they were trying to
attack Philadelphia that you know that they didn't go as much.
(33:31):
I don't you know, they didn't even really go that
much too tight end, I don't think.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
And then how much did the game plan change when
Carter is you want to call.
Speaker 5 (33:47):
It?
Speaker 2 (33:47):
Probably changed a lot.
Speaker 4 (33:48):
And Dak even mentioned that, you know, once the protection changed,
because they probably schemed all week to make sure that
they were, you know, counting him in the middle. They
I mean, I think one of the things about going
back and watching the film is seeing these guys get
to the second level, you know, and this is this
is one of those games where, especially when we talk
about where the Giants are weak right now, and it's
(34:12):
at their linebacker.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
They one of the linebackers is gone.
Speaker 4 (34:14):
They got a guy coming in that was was circled
as you talked about yesterday. You want to attack that guy.
You want to attack him early and often in this game.
So running the ball right at this defenses is the
way to go two hundred and twenty yards. That they,
I mean, really surprised everyone. But I think that also
that balance with a healthy dose of CD and Pickens
(34:35):
is going to be needed the.
Speaker 5 (34:37):
Other the second tight end in the third tight end.
So Scoonmaker and Ford. Schoonmaker had fifteen snaps and Ford
had ten snaps, so twenty five snaps, if.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
You know, usually if.
Speaker 5 (34:51):
They're in it's too tight end, right all right?
Speaker 3 (34:56):
By the way, an update from New York DA bol
has his press availability on Friday mornings, and so that's
why we have a little bit of an update. Very
Good said that Andrew Thomas took a good amount of
reps yesterday and he will practice again today. As far
as his availability for Sunday Daybill said that they will
see how he feels after practice too.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
That means he'll be in street clothes. That's the way
I enter code words street clothes.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
All right, so we shall see. All right, We got
our picks to click and who wins on Sunday when
we come back on mix shots.

All right, final few minutes here of mixed Shots. Jerry
was on the radio today. Anything we need to know?
Speaker 5 (38:13):
He was, okay, let me review things.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
Okay, you review from your legal pad there.
Speaker 5 (38:21):
You know. He talked a lot about other stuff, not
actually the game.
Speaker 3 (38:26):
Because they're playing the Giants right.
Speaker 2 (38:30):
No, he didn't talk about who's healthy, who's scratched.
Speaker 5 (38:33):
He talked about Bland and he talked about digs If.
He said, if if we need him to get more reps,
he'll get more reps, and so I took that as
you will get more reps. And then he also pointed
(38:55):
out that I think someone asked him about, oh, you
sign a guy, give him an extension, and then he
gets hurt and he goes, he goes, well, that's what
I was pointing out, because you sign him doesn't mean
you got him for the whole season. Boy, That's yeah,
you knew where that was headed, right. Uh, Let's see
(39:18):
what else.
Speaker 3 (39:20):
He mentioned.
Speaker 5 (39:21):
They asked him about Clowney and he said, more people
you have on the field, it helps out because this
game's more than just about one person. And he went
on to point out about the trade, with Micah pointing
out that part of the trade is the money you
(39:42):
create under the salary cap that no one points out.
So that was I think those.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
Were the highlights there.
Speaker 5 (39:51):
And to me, he also said, we had him for
four years. One guy doesn't do it by himself.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
Well, have to be better in this can we talk
about that quarterbacks?
Speaker 4 (40:04):
Linebackers have to be better and regardless if you have
Clowney or not, whoever is out there. Your linebackers have
to be better. And they talk about stopping the run
and not allowing those long drives and not allowing these
guys to score. But Sam Williams, Sam Williams as a
roku guys like that, getting to the quarterback and getting
them down. We missed a lot, obviously coverage sacks and
(40:25):
all not cover sacks, but you know, coverage breakdowns. And
then Jalen Hurts gets out on you don't allow do
not allow for Russ to cook.
Speaker 5 (40:34):
Well, they should have had coverage sacks and they didn't know.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
That's what I wish. The coverage was good. Yeah, so you.
Speaker 4 (40:41):
Kenny Clark, Kenny Clark on defense, he looked pretty good.
He showed us why they brought a player like him
in because of his ability to take on that two
gap and hold his ground but also shoot the gap
as well. He and also look good together, but also
Solomon Thomas. You know, so look, I think collect actively
as a groove, and I'm just talking about the front
(41:02):
right now instead of the secondary. The front they can
really is we talked about the offensive line, the defensive
front can also win this game.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
You know, another guy we mentioned early in the week
for the Giants, Chauncey Golstan wearing number fifty seven for them.
If you have a chance to look at him in
a Giants uniform, he looks and we were talking earlier
this week and the way he was used by the
Cowboys is also he's like a tweiner both, but he
looks more like an edge guy. Maybe it's because of
(41:32):
the number he's wearing fifty seven instead of ninety nine,
but he looks like maybe he's slimmed down some. I
agree with you, Yeah, yeah, because.
Speaker 5 (41:40):
I didn't when they said his name, I said, that's Chauncey.
Speaker 3 (41:43):
Yeah, yeah, I mean because he when he came out
of Iowa, I think is two hundred and seventy seven pounds,
and his playing weight even here was maybe two sixty seven.
He looks like he may be down around two fifty five,
two fifty seven something like that. Now he looks more
like an edge guy than he does an inside game.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
And maybe the weight.
Speaker 4 (42:01):
Also the different scheme playing in the three four basically
instead of playing it.
Speaker 3 (42:06):
Stand up defensive then a lot of times.
Speaker 4 (42:08):
Right, so they're slimming down probably was advantageous for him
to be in.
Speaker 3 (42:11):
It fits right in with those edge guys like Brian Burns,
like Thibodeau, like Abduall Carter where now and Chauncey Golston
is the fourth of those.
Speaker 5 (42:20):
They got them listened to to seventy seven.
Speaker 3 (42:22):
And that's what he that was what he came into
the league at. And so I wouldn't pay attention to that.
Speaker 2 (42:27):
I think he's on those zimpic His combine weight.
Speaker 3 (42:30):
Was to seventy seven, okay, and he just seemed to
be wider in the hips or than what he looks now.
He looks like he's slimmed down some anyway. That's just
an observation that I had. All right, So who wants
to go first on your picks?
Speaker 5 (42:45):
Who are we picking a player and picking a player
and a score player that and oh, let me give
you ever since first?
Speaker 3 (42:52):
Okay, yeah, this will set.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
Us up here.
Speaker 5 (42:54):
He normally goes first, right.
Speaker 3 (42:55):
Yeah, okay? So ever sin I.
Speaker 5 (42:59):
Think was let me guess Javonte Williams.
Speaker 3 (43:03):
Okay, he wait a second, where is he? I lose him?
Speaker 5 (43:14):
His was Javonte Williams two tds.
Speaker 3 (43:16):
He did it on a different thread than this, I
guess there it is he did. He didn't do it
on our mix shots.
Speaker 2 (43:22):
Wan Ain't that something he wanted to make sure he
really got out?
Speaker 5 (43:26):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (43:26):
Okay, guys, I won't make it tomorrow. I says he
this ten forty two last night. That's totally my bad. Okay.
Javonte Williams two touchdowns, So his pick to click is
Javonte Williams. His score Cowboys win twenty four to ten,
twenty four ten, twenty four to ten. So I will
(43:48):
play the role of Everson in write down our picks here,
okay on our text, okay, or just keep that text. Well,
I'm gonna write y'alls down too, Okay, So heck man,
you want to go next?
Speaker 4 (43:59):
I will go next. I am going to go with
Mickey's favorite. I'm going to go Cavante Turpin breaking this
one open and I'm just gonna give him a touchdown.
But still I think he has some big plays special
teams and on offense, and I'm gonna go Cowboys twenty
six to thirteen.
Speaker 3 (44:17):
Twenty six thirteen, yeah, okay, Mickey may next.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
Yeah, because I.
Speaker 5 (44:25):
Thought he was going to steal my pick, but he
didn't do it, So I'm going Sam Williams.
Speaker 3 (44:31):
Sam Williams, and I've got cow Yeah, I'm getting specifics
on Sam.
Speaker 5 (44:36):
Well, he's going to create a Sam Sacks, So he's
going to create sacks, Create sacks by him, says okay,
and pressures too, by the way, and stand up against
the run all around. He's got one game under his
belt since twenty twenty three, and I think he's ready
to flourish.
Speaker 3 (44:57):
Are you going to go so far as to say
he will have a sack?
Speaker 2 (44:59):
Yes, kay, sack, not create sacks, create sack. I got
to come up with one.
Speaker 5 (45:04):
He's got to create them for himself, right, And Cowboys
thirty to seventeen, thirty to seventeen and.
Speaker 3 (45:14):
Heckma, did you say one or two touchdowns for Turpin?
Speaker 2 (45:17):
I'm gonna go one.
Speaker 3 (45:18):
One touchdown?
Speaker 2 (45:19):
Yeah, one? All right?
Speaker 5 (45:22):
If they would kick it too, I mean he might
have two.
Speaker 3 (45:25):
My pick to click is the guy who's been on
the drugs machine all week. Yeah, that was my next.
Speaker 2 (45:33):
Says he's ticked off this day off.
Speaker 3 (45:38):
Even through his gloves. His hands are so calloused from
that jugs machine this week. C. D. Lamb is going
to have a monster game CD three three WHOA because
it because because it rhymes with CD y s right
(46:03):
D three and I'm going come on, forty forty to
seventeen Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (46:19):
Yes, this is a whooping.
Speaker 3 (46:21):
Uh huh, we're gonna break out.
Speaker 2 (46:23):
I can going with the burger. I like it.
Speaker 3 (46:28):
It's a big game for deck. If CD it is three, Okay,
his pickings is gonna get one.
Speaker 2 (46:34):
So who gets thirty? Who gets the thirty?
Speaker 4 (46:36):
Who gets the thirtieth touchdown against the Giants for the Cowboys?
Speaker 3 (46:39):
Mind you, this is also in September, where nobody gets
thirty points in games unless you're Buffalo Baltimore.
Speaker 2 (46:44):
And true, true, they had.
Speaker 3 (46:47):
Four of the five teams that got thirty last week.
Cowboys are gonna be the first or the next to forty.
Speaker 5 (46:52):
If this offensive line can do the job, they will
score thirty or more points. Okay, and uh, I guess
we can't say a wager. How about a prediction that
the first play goes to CD lamp?
Speaker 3 (47:07):
Okay, first play, first play. We're all in agreement on that, right,
I think that's okay.
Speaker 5 (47:14):
I mean they're going to want to get them going, right, Yeah,
but the Giants know.
Speaker 2 (47:17):
That too, So you got so you got documents there? Yep.
Speaker 3 (47:22):
I got it documented, all right? Does it again? You're
what time again tomorrow at the Frisco Convention and you
have the late message that you want to give to
your fans out there.
Speaker 2 (47:36):
He anything that I want to say me?
Speaker 3 (47:38):
Yeah, cowboy hope.
Speaker 1 (47:42):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
