HECMA Harrison, Everson Wolves, and Mickey Spagnola.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
It is a Wednesday morning inside the SWBC podcast studio
here at the Star Infrasco and at the corner of
Ventura in Vintage in Oxnard, California. It is a Deja
blue edition of Nick Shots, the final one for Mickey

(00:50):
Spagnola in Oxnard, California. The reason I said it's a
deja blue edition is because Paul here replacing there's no
replacing Producer Supreme.

Speaker 4 (01:02):
He's trying to camera.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Producer Paul is coming on strong here as he's provided
us all with waters, which has never happened.

Speaker 5 (01:11):
Before, never ever had that.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Happened Producer Supreme era. The producer Supreme is Yeah, he's
with Mickey in Oxnard and he's probably yelling, probably off
camera right now. But you got Bill Jones, you got
Everson Wallas, you got Hecma Harrison, and you got Mickey Spagnola.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
One final time. In Oxnard.

Speaker 5 (01:34):
No, you gotta do it on the corner.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
Come on, now, I did it already.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
You did it already on Thetage and Vintage and.

Speaker 5 (01:40):
Okay, right, I'm sorry.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
Vineyard Yeah, okay, Vineyard.

Speaker 5 (01:45):
Yeah, I just love it the way you say it.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
Corner of Vineyard and Ventura.

Speaker 6 (01:49):
Like, man, it's like here. You don't feel no, Wricky,
you're Mickey. You're a Chicago guy, and this will get
under your skin. It's like the friendly confines of Wrigley Field.
Where is that the corner of.

Speaker 7 (02:09):
He's not a Cubs fan?

Speaker 6 (02:11):
Yeah, White, Yeah, that was the way to shut up, Mickey.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Right, Mickey, we got a we got a two hour practice.
Stare at us in the face today out there.

Speaker 5 (02:26):
In Auxdar, don't we.

Speaker 7 (02:29):
Yeah, one last big practice now they'll do something tomorrow
earlier nine am here, uh, before we head to the
buses to go to Lax to fly back home. But yeah,
it went an hour forty five yesterday and two hour
practice today. So last big practice out here and we'll

(02:53):
see if they do much either today or tomorrow to
maybe somewhat prepare to play the Ravens on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Okay, Well, as this training camp opened some three weeks ago,
three and a half weeks ago. However long it's been,
there were plenty of questions to be answered. I'm not
sure how many we've answered so far.

Speaker 5 (03:14):
None. Are you about to throw that question?

Speaker 3 (03:18):
So I'm like, okay, Hekma and Everson, give me one
question you would like.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
Answered by Mickey Spagnola.

Speaker 5 (03:26):
What do you think? Come on?

Speaker 4 (03:28):
One question?

Speaker 5 (03:28):
Come on, Everson, one question from spags. Uh huh. Wait.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Just had an hour and forty five minute practice yesterday, okay,
and had the coordinators available also the other day. And
since we last convened on Monday, and that was on Monday,
the coordinators as well as Shot Nimer. What's one question, though,
you've got is they are about to break camp tomorrow, Mickey.

Speaker 8 (03:54):
Did they trim the fat from the game? Did they
trim any fat from my roster? According to what they
saw on Saturday evening?

Speaker 3 (04:05):
Well, there's there's If you're asking if trimming the fat,
as in trimming players from the roster, what the heck
do you think of men they don't have to do
in contract in contrast half years past, Yeah, in contrast
to years past, it's all one big cutdown day, which
is two weeks from yesterday.

Speaker 8 (04:24):
Okay, so then they have to they have to continue
practicing with the same Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Yeah, lack of better words.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
There has been talking though, Mickey about depth chart changes
and you notice anything different as far as that kind
of gets to trimming the fat there that Everson wants
to you to get at, you notice anything different from
practice yesterday?

Speaker 7 (04:49):
Can I give you a Tom Landry answer to that?

Speaker 5 (04:53):
Yes? Please?

Speaker 7 (04:54):
No? No, not really?

Speaker 8 (04:58):
Yeah, that's that sounds like Tom. Yeah, very exciting the way.

Speaker 7 (05:02):
As a matter of fact. As a matter of fact,
the other day I heard Schottenheimer say that as part
of the answer and he said, no, not really and
I said, oh no, not Landry.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
Sounds like Mickey had they need by that back in
the day by coach Landry.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
Maybe Mickey asked a question any first time?

Speaker 7 (05:23):
Go ahead, Mickey, I was going to say first time.
I when I got here the first year, and I
got up a nerve to ask him a question. H
during the Tuesday press conference, and I had this beautiful question.
I had an idea what I was going to write,
and I said, Okay, I'm asking a question, and I

(05:45):
asked a question. It was a very good question. By
the way, and I got no, not really, that was it.
I was like, that's all I got.

Speaker 5 (05:56):
Oh, you gotta be ready for the follow ups bags uh.

Speaker 7 (05:58):
Huh he was, yeah, I was. I got shocked, right,
But I wrote the story anyway. I just wrote it
without them.

Speaker 5 (06:08):
I think you do that a lot, spags.

Speaker 8 (06:09):
You just kind of just write stories without really checking
with anybody.

Speaker 7 (06:13):
That's that's that's that's what a column is supposed to do, right,
have an opinion.

Speaker 5 (06:19):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Heck, what's your big I just want you want to
follow up turney over here? Yes, hey, I watch you.

Speaker 7 (06:29):
I want you to know Producer Supreme just showed up
with four bottles of water and a towel if I
start sweating, yeah.

Speaker 5 (06:39):
But no one's burning up out there. I mean this
is a town.

Speaker 4 (06:43):
I will say this. Producer Supreme was great supplying water
out there because it's free.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
I got.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
It's it's right there in a machine, right next to
where Mickey is right there on the tennis court.

Speaker 7 (06:56):
No, but I got chili cheese fredo.

Speaker 5 (07:00):
Okay, that's too early in the morning.

Speaker 4 (07:03):
That's one of our sponsors to go ahead out.

Speaker 8 (07:05):
Okay, Well, you guys are getting it in I was
just gonna say, was there any sense of urgency or
any change in the practice at all? Did did you
hear coach yelling at anybody?

Speaker 5 (07:17):
Did did he?

Speaker 8 (07:18):
Did you see any unusual demands that was put upon
the players?

Speaker 3 (07:22):
Everson wanted some accountability Saturday night game.

Speaker 5 (07:26):
I want accountability. I want accountability.

Speaker 7 (07:30):
Did you did you hear the press conference on Monday?
I did?

Speaker 4 (07:35):
I did it, and the coach did have some accountability?

Speaker 5 (07:39):
Okay, well he demoted.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
He demoted himself from the post game prayer.

Speaker 5 (07:44):
Oh that was? That was?

Speaker 7 (07:48):
He cussed during the postgame prayer, right, and he said,
he said, he said, he was told that. Sam Williams
turned to Dak and said, are you supposed to cuss?
You'll pray it?

Speaker 4 (08:02):
He said, he said, can you cuss with you?

Speaker 3 (08:05):
And just knowing Sam william that would be so hilarious
that got to crack up.

Speaker 5 (08:10):
I can imagine you can.

Speaker 7 (08:11):
But you know I'm not God, he went, he went,
he went total Ricky Bobby doing the prayer at that
dinner in the movie.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
Right, and they played the Will Ferrell scene at the
team meeting on Monday.

Speaker 8 (08:29):
You can proceed to to heck man because I'm done
with this guy right now.

Speaker 5 (08:35):
I'm done with this.

Speaker 7 (08:36):
Well, ask a good question with this witness.

Speaker 5 (08:39):
I'm done with this witness. Johanna.

Speaker 9 (08:41):
Okay, you know, for me, I think you know, there
are some names that we were talking about just Monday,
guys that that popped and just knowing that they're undrafted
free agents. Got a guy like number thirty eight Elijah
Clark that we were talking about and seeing him into
maybe getting more reps, especially in this game versus Baltimore,

(09:01):
And to me, I guess my question is, Mickey, have
you seen him being thrust into a role as as
you know, running with the ones and that's really a
telltale sign that a guy is going to get an opportunity,
uh this Saturday if he is playing with the ones
or the twos.

Speaker 7 (09:18):
He's been playing with the twos and he got yesterday.
I did see he got a lot of snaps. So
although I'm trying to remember it was thirty eight or
thirty nine that had a little nick up and it
didn't practice as much, he was out there.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
Yeah he did then and then forty Yeah Childress was
the other one.

Speaker 7 (09:45):
Yeah, Childress. Childress did get first team snaps on the
nickel so so yeah, you'll you we'll see what happens today.
They were they were kind of switching things up a
little bit to give some guys reps with the with
the first team. I mean, they're just searching right now.

Speaker 5 (10:08):
You know.

Speaker 7 (10:08):
What you're trying to do is give guys enough opportunity
that you go, Okay, I think that guy makes the team.
I think that's what's happening with the majority of all
these moves. Like TJ. Bass had been playing left second
team left guard and now they got him working at center.
There was a couple of bad snaps, but you know,

(10:30):
he's not a full time center, so they're just trying
to see, you know, what his ability is to maybe
be a backup guard, backup center. And then brock Hoffman
was still the second team center most of the time,
and then he switched to a little bit of guard,
and they had Awesome Richards had been switching with Nate

(10:56):
Thomas at first team tackle, but Nate Thomas got all
the snaps at tackle and Awesome moved into left guard.
So they're trying to see just how much he can do.
And then they had I Dentergy playing some first team
left tackle when they gave Nate Thomas a blow. But

(11:19):
I think right now Nate Thomas as your starting left tackle,
and it'll be interesting to see what he does between
now and the season opener if indeed, and I think
he probably will have to play in that first or
second game.

Speaker 5 (11:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
And the other thing on TJ. Bass is when you
look at their roster and as they open camp, your centers,
the guys with potential to play center obviously your starter
Cooper BB and brock Hoffman who has played it in
games here, and Dakota Shepley. And then they lost Dakota
Shepley to an injury. And so even just to get

(11:55):
through these last two preseason games, going to play Cooper
bebe much. Then you got brock Hoffman, who would have
to play the entire game at center, and this gives
them in and that's what they did. Late in the
game against the Rams, Bass played center, and as Schottenheimer
said it and I believe in his Monday press conference,
awesome Richards, is your emergency emergency, emergency, emergency, emergency center,

(12:20):
emergency center, great.

Speaker 9 (12:22):
Glass in case of emergency.

Speaker 7 (12:26):
Yeah, I don't think they want to go that deep
at the center position, but just to get by those games.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
Usually you would have a rookie center that you've signed
that has no chance of making the fifty three man roster,
but as a potential practice squad guy. The strategy that
they use this year as for their offensive line is
they brought veteran guys in here to fill the fifteen
or sixteen spots offensive line spots you have on your roster.

(12:53):
And so and Dakota Shepley was that that last center
and then he got hurt and he's now he had
an injury.

Speaker 4 (13:01):
And then he's he's not on the team and.

Speaker 7 (13:03):
He he's he's by he's bye bye. They released him
off the practice side, would I mean off the injured
reserve with an injury settlement.

Speaker 5 (13:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (13:13):
I kind of like.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
TJ Bess though at center, watching him near the outside
of the couple of snaps that were low and and that,
and having that position flexibility is so important because I mean,
he'll be right there with the chance to be on
the game day roster every every weekend.

Speaker 9 (13:29):
But Bill, how do you feel about the Cowboys not
playing any of their starters on the on the offensive line.
I mean, and you look around the league and there
are some teams like Cincinnati, Kansas City, and they're coming
out with their starters and they're getting that they're basically
with the premise of we're gonna start fast.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
Here.

Speaker 9 (13:48):
It's always been something different. You know, our guys are
not gonna play and we're gonna hold him out. And
it used to be was it the second to last
preseason game when there was four Now this would obviously
be the game that you would want to see, you
want to wrap up the ramp up.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
Just take this week's opponent, Baltimore. And I was looking
at them, studying them because I have to study them
because I'm.

Speaker 4 (14:08):
Doing the game.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
And they started three of their offensive line starters last
week against Indianapolis, and their left guard who was a
young guy that they're replacing Patrick McCarry who signed with Jacksonville,
and then the right side second year guy Roger Rosengarten
at right tackle and file Lalley at right guard.

Speaker 4 (14:29):
Is the other one.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
So there are two primary guys, Ronnie Stanley and big
money guys the left tackle. Stanley and their center Tyler
Linderbaum did not play in the game, but and so
from the Cowboys standpoint, I fully expect them to play.
Tyler Booker this week, and probably you need Terrence Steel
there for them to work side by side to get
something going.

Speaker 4 (14:50):
I would imagine Cooper B.

Speaker 9 (14:51):
Bill, were you taking a back when you didn't see
Booker on the field when you got to the stage.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
Yeah, I thought I thought was I figured he wouldn't
he would play some. But they said that, as Mickey
can attest, they they said they had a plan as
far as their offensive line goes in that game and
then going.

Speaker 7 (15:06):
Forward, how'd that turn out for Philadelphia?

Speaker 5 (15:10):
Oh? God?

Speaker 3 (15:12):
Well, and he got hurt in practice. Landon Dickerson got hurt,
I know, I know. But the hurt in the game
Kenyon Green, who was supposed to step in for him, Yeah,
he's also hurt.

Speaker 7 (15:23):
So And by the way, see what you guys are forgetting?
Can I can I just interject this? What you're forgetting
is they had a scrimmage with the Rams on Tuesday,
and those offensive linemen played extensively in the scrimmage. So
I think Schottenheimer, as Bill said, had had a plan

(15:43):
on how many snaps he wanted these guys to get.
And you didn't need to get all the snaps in
the first game. I would imagine it doesn't do them
any good to put one guy in there with four backups, right,
you need all five guys in there together. So I
would imagine they'll get a series or two in this

(16:03):
game Saturday. I don't know if they'll get more in
the last preseason game. But they need to play as
a unit, not just one guy going in there, because
that doesn't accomplish anything to put Booker in there with
four backups or three guys that aren't going to make
the team. So I think that was the plan they had.

Speaker 4 (16:24):
Was Tyler Smith at practice yesterday? Is he good to go?

Speaker 7 (16:30):
He was at practice, yes, so he.

Speaker 4 (16:32):
Was taking first his normal reps with his knee issue
that he.

Speaker 7 (16:36):
Was taken Yeah, just not probably not as many Bill,
but he was out there. Yes.

Speaker 3 (16:42):
Okay, we're just getting started, and I've got something that's
making the rounds right now on social media that will
get everybody alarmed when we come back on mix shots
in just a moment.

Okay, we continue here with mix shots and you follow
it all the NFL Top.

Speaker 4 (19:22):
One hundred players of twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
Five sparing, that's yeah, Sparing being kind of down right now.

Speaker 9 (19:30):
It has I think I saw today that Michael was
some like thirty six thirty eight. Yeah, that's where that
was wrong.

Speaker 3 (19:37):
And that's that's what I just tease, Oh, Mickey, Mickey,
can you come up with thirty five players in the
league that are better than Michah Parsons Michah Parsons came
in at number thirty six on the NFL Top one
hundred players of twenty twenty five. Give me, give me
thirty five players better than Micah.

Speaker 7 (20:01):
I was trying to find eighty players better than Dak Prescott.

Speaker 8 (20:04):
Yeah, that's a good one too. That's a good one also.
And so who's ahead? Who do they have ahead of them?

Speaker 4 (20:10):
Well, I haven't seen they're revealing them.

Speaker 7 (20:14):
Maybe we had a well Dak was I think Dak was.
It was like eighty three seventy nine. There were quarterbacks
that were patting Pete drop in the league ahead of him.

Speaker 4 (20:32):
Arch Manning was ahead of him.

Speaker 7 (20:35):
I think so. But but understand how they do the
how they do the ranking, it's player voting.

Speaker 5 (20:47):
Well, that doesn't that doesn't help.

Speaker 8 (20:49):
I mean it seems like the players should give us
more respect than that.

Speaker 4 (20:52):
You mike him more respect.

Speaker 7 (20:53):
Well, but you don't know how many players. You don't
know how many players are voting, Like when they to
the team and they go, do you want to vote?
And no, I don't want to do it. So what's
the percentage of guys on each team? If they asked them,
would you go one hundred?

Speaker 4 (21:11):
Where a hundred or less one hundred players orally.

Speaker 5 (21:20):
You don't email it to it whatever you do right.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
Well, the other thing is you're just you're just doing
it off the top of your head, so it's not
like you're you're them in order.

Speaker 7 (21:31):
Yeah, you know, like they're giving it a lot.

Speaker 5 (21:34):
And then as CD Lamb, where is CD do they have?

Speaker 9 (21:36):
They're not done yet, so I'm assuming that Cede Lamb
is going to be much higher than they have Micah
at thirty six. I thought it was disrespectful. I didn't
like it at all. You know, I think when it
comes down to an edge rusher and where Micah is
right now in his career, and while we're talking about
him being the top paid edge rusher in the league,
I was disingenuous at the best to have.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
Him at thirty six.

Speaker 9 (21:58):
But you know, like like like he just said, you know,
it's you got Dak at eighty three or whatever, and
that obviously Dak is a much better quarterback than that
and deserves more respect in his league than that.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
And by the way, ever, soon shouldn't the players be
in support of their fellow player Micah who's in a
contract year right now, aren't you going to support Micah
to get as much money as possible and rank him
as high as possible.

Speaker 8 (22:21):
And I'm wondering if it's just me with this, you know,
paranoia and being a former cowboy.

Speaker 5 (22:27):
You know, it's just still a lot of a lot
of just a lot of hate out there on the
Cowboys man, you know.

Speaker 8 (22:32):
I mean, I've seen commentators of Abundance on TV and
their former players, and man, some of them, they they
start talking, they talk as gentlemen when the conversation is
about but then when the Cowboys come up, all of
a sudden, they come out their bag man, and they
just start crazy on us.

Speaker 5 (22:54):
I mean, you know, you'll catch it. Player.

Speaker 8 (22:56):
He's almost spitting into the microphone. I guess probably like
I was yesterday when it comes to talking about anything
Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 5 (23:03):
And I get it.

Speaker 8 (23:04):
They're they're not crazy about the owner, you know, because
they think of arrogance, they think of rich and all
of this.

Speaker 3 (23:10):
They think of a franchise that's now valued a twelve
point eight billion.

Speaker 5 (23:14):
Dollars that huge.

Speaker 8 (23:16):
I here from these guys, man, I don't know why
they feel so bad about that.

Speaker 5 (23:21):
The players themselves, we don't get that much.

Speaker 8 (23:23):
You know, the players get paid, but it's not like
they're getting an elevated pay because of the fact that
the franchise is so rich.

Speaker 4 (23:31):
The track is Jerry's paying all his podcasters.

Speaker 5 (23:33):
All that of course.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
Yeah, twelve point eight billion dollars making you saw that
that's the value of this friend, I did not see
these breaking news this morning.

Speaker 7 (23:45):
Say the updated.

Speaker 3 (23:46):
Number it's updated now to it leads from ten billion
to twelve point eight billion like that.

Speaker 5 (23:52):
That that does kind of make people.

Speaker 9 (23:55):
Man, is there a date that they come out with
this every year? It seems like the annual announced.

Speaker 4 (24:00):
Of right now?

Speaker 2 (24:01):
Is that what it comes to we can set our
rocks by please.

Speaker 3 (24:06):
It's just like the NFL has and this was Sportico.
I think it came out with it. But this is
the talking season. Okay, games aren't till September fourth. We
don't have games to talk about, and so now we
talk about the value of the franchises right now, Well.

Speaker 9 (24:20):
We just know ever since wait until he's fifteen billion
before he buys it.

Speaker 8 (24:24):
Yeah, okay, yeah it is, but fifteen billion then he
said he doesn't even need me anymore.

Speaker 7 (24:31):
Yes, mickey, do you think players are objective?

Speaker 5 (24:36):
I do not. I do not. I think players are just.

Speaker 7 (24:40):
And here's another thing. They know, they know the most
about players that they prepare to play against. Right, they're
not watching games all day long. One, you know what
the NFL resident channel is, you can watch all the games. Yes,
red Zone. They're not watching red Zone, Helson. Most of

(25:02):
them probably aren't watching Sunday night because they're played on
Sunday afternoon. Right, traveling, they're not watching. Yeah, I'm like,
I take that all with a grain of salt.

Speaker 5 (25:13):
I feel like this that they are players.

Speaker 8 (25:15):
They're going to pick players that they maybe were in
college with or maybe went to high school with. They're
going to pick players that come from their conferences, from
from when they were in college. You know, it's it's
I'm sorry, I know you might get a little fluster here.
It's just like media as well, A spags you guys,

(25:36):
just like anybody else. You're going to get along with
the guys that you frequent with the most. You know,
when it comes to reporters, you're gonna you know, if
you with this reporter a lot, you're gonna give him
grace if there comes to you know, giving him any
type of accolations.

Speaker 5 (25:51):
Or anything like that.

Speaker 8 (25:53):
It's it's there's gonna be a discrimination or of favoritism
in any genre that you speak of.

Speaker 7 (26:02):
Yeah, so we spent way too much time talking about it.

Speaker 5 (26:05):
Thank you, Micky Mickey.

Speaker 4 (26:10):
I didn't see you on the Blue Carpet the other night?

Speaker 5 (26:13):
Were you?

Speaker 7 (26:13):
Were you there at the Blue my invitation? I think
I think my invitation is still coming on email.

Speaker 4 (26:19):
Wow, you know what we're talking about, Everson?

Speaker 5 (26:23):
I don't know, but this sounds sounds kind of sad.

Speaker 3 (26:27):
Why didn't Netflix netflix documentary on the nineties Cowboys?

Speaker 9 (26:31):
You know what, Everson, what do you actually do with
your free time?

Speaker 5 (26:36):
You don't watch television. You're definitely not on social media.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
You're not watching practice five years old?

Speaker 7 (26:43):
What are you doing?

Speaker 5 (26:44):
Mister Wallas? You gotta tell me what's I did? I
did hear about the Netflix deal?

Speaker 8 (26:49):
Okay, And I was trying to tell the young lady
that told me about it.

Speaker 5 (26:53):
I said, I didn't hear anything about this. I said
they were probably concentrating more on the present Cowboys then
in the past.

Speaker 8 (27:02):
And that's all I said about it because I didn't
hear about anything.

Speaker 7 (27:06):
And you were absolutely and you're absolutely wrong. They concentrated
on the nineties cowboys.

Speaker 8 (27:14):
When I say, when I say these cowboys, I mean
Jerry Jones.

Speaker 5 (27:22):
Yes, this is a Jerry Jones.

Speaker 7 (27:24):
Well it's about him. I see, I didn't know it's
about him.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
Yeah, oh okay.

Speaker 7 (27:29):
And did you know what the title was?

Speaker 5 (27:31):
We got to have like six episodes or something like that.

Speaker 4 (27:36):
I think there's like nine or ten episodes.

Speaker 7 (27:38):
Tell them the title of tell them the title of
this series.

Speaker 4 (27:42):
Well, I can't. I have to find it.

Speaker 7 (27:44):
The Gambler's Goodler.

Speaker 4 (27:45):
The Gambler, And I can't remember the rest of the title.

Speaker 7 (27:49):
What is it, Mickey, I just knew the Gambler, And
so it's about Jerry, right, And.

Speaker 8 (27:58):
That's what I kept trying to tell the young I said,
I'm sure this is not about when I you know,
when when I started playing it, I told her this
is probably something just about Jerry Jones.

Speaker 5 (28:11):
I was being you.

Speaker 4 (28:12):
Know, America's team, the Gambler and his Cowboys.

Speaker 9 (28:16):
A title of the documentary, I can't wait. You know again,
it comes at the right time, right before the season.
And I've often complained that so many Cowboy fans right
now have never even got an opportunity to experience what
it was like to even have a Super Bowl or
be a part of any of those dumbinant teams, so

(28:36):
to relive it all over again, and obviously everybody knows
how to get the Netflix and you know, being watch anything.
I think it's just another one of those genius marketing
campaigns by Jerry to bring in some more fans to
what is already ready a twelve point five billion dollars
You think that, I'm sorry, did I did I miss

(28:58):
a point on short chair?

Speaker 5 (29:00):
I can't.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
I can't do nothing with either of it. With the
point of the twelve.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
By the time we're into this show, it might be
up to thirteen billionaire?

Speaker 8 (29:09):
So who what else is going on? Is there gonna
be also the Hard Knocks? Is there going to be
an end season team?

Speaker 7 (29:16):
There is?

Speaker 4 (29:16):
It's not the Cowboys.

Speaker 5 (29:17):
It's not the case.

Speaker 4 (29:18):
It doesn't matter.

Speaker 5 (29:18):
Okay. I thought maybe it was gonna be like, man,
we're gonna go full on yeah Cowboys for all.

Speaker 4 (29:24):
You know what, though, when we come back here on
mix Shots, we're gonna go.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
Full on Cowboys. This is our last show of this week.
We'll get you ready for the Ravens Cowboys on Saturday
night and Mickey will take a look back at the
last three and a half weeks in Oxnard when Mixed
Shots continues in a moment no recollection.

(32:12):
the official primary ticketing partner of the Dallas Cowboys. And
speaking of Cardinals, they also started their quarterback in the first.

Speaker 4 (32:21):
Quarter Tright Kyler Murray played about that.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
That's right, and I think I saw the breakdown was
sixteen starting quarterbacks played and sixteen starting quarterbacks did not play,
So it was an even split across the league. And
by the way, you you rattle off those home games
and the opponents, we've talked about the stretch from November
twenty third until Christmas Day when the Cowboys play Philadelphia,

(32:48):
Kansas City, Detroit, Minnesota, the Chargers in Washington, which is
the toughest stretch in the history of football based on
what those teams records were last year. It's you look
at September at Philadelphia, Giants at home at Chicago, and
then Green Bay Steam needs to get off to a

(33:11):
good start, and that's not an easy schedule in such
a back no two division Robins super Bowl to back yeah, yep,
and starting with a Super Bowl champion and ending with
a September twenty eighth with the Green Bay team. That'll
be the pick of many to do good things and
they've been strong. Okay, just that random thought.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
Yeah, well, I mean it's not a favorabill schedule at all.

Speaker 8 (33:37):
We kind of said that. We kind of said the
same thing last year on how we have to get
off fast. We didn't talk about we didn't have a
stretch in November, nice stretch as we always do in November,
but we didn't have a November to Christmas Day thing
last year. We had to get off to a good
start as well, and we did not well.

Speaker 3 (33:58):
And then last year it was at Cleveland, which was
a win, and the New Orleans game, the home opener against.

Speaker 9 (34:05):
New Orleans, let's forget that, and then Baltimore.

Speaker 5 (34:09):
You can't forget every New Orleans game. We got to
figure out New Orleans company here.

Speaker 3 (34:13):
Don't believe up that one didn't matter whether Sean Payton's
coaching him or Dennis Allen who's now with the Bears.

Speaker 4 (34:24):
By the way, they've got the Bears in September.

Speaker 3 (34:26):
All right, Uh, mickey, what are what are your thoughts
as you enter the last full day in Oxnard today?

Speaker 7 (34:36):
I think they still have some position questions uh to answer,
And I guess the good thing is they're still what
a week and a half of practice at the Star
that's considered training camp uh before they get into their
week of preparation uh late August for the first game

(34:59):
on a Thursday night. The cornerback position is somewhat unsettled
since we haven't seen Trayvon Diggs out there. Yeah, Savon
Revel is still not practicing, Josh Butler is not practicing,

(35:20):
Kaylin Carson is not practicing, and they're trying to kind
of piece this thing together. So the big question is
when will Diggs return, Can they get Revel ramped up
to at least not have to go the first four
weeks on pup, which I think that's starting to look

(35:42):
like what will take place? And who's gonna play outside?
See they keep talking about Doron Bland can play outside,
he can play inside. Well, to me, he's got to
do both. When they're in base defense, he's at arting
outside corner. When they go into nickel, they can move

(36:04):
them inside. But now who's playing that outside corner? You
know you have Kayir Elam who if you follow the
snaps in the opening game. Those guys that didn't play
are pretty much set to make this team and probably
be starters. So you got Elam outside, but you need
another corner. If Bland moves inside or if he stays

(36:27):
outside on the nickel, then who's the nickel corner inside?
And they've gone through about two or three different guys
there trying to figure out who they're going to put
on the nickel, and I think that these games coming
up will be very important to kind of settle that
position and see what they're doing. You know, they keep

(36:50):
using Andrew Booth he can't cover heckma right.

Speaker 10 (36:55):
Wow, Wait a minute, that's a compliment.

Speaker 7 (37:02):
That means you've got some speed, right.

Speaker 5 (37:10):
He's trying to say. He's trying to say, you got game.

Speaker 8 (37:13):
I got it, Yeah, you got even if you're on
a podcast, right, yeah.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
I got you.

Speaker 7 (37:23):
So that's a that's to me, that's a that's a
position of concern. Everybody brings up defensive tackle. Uh, but
they bring it up because they aren't sure what Mozzi
Smith can do. Well, they've got Solomon Thomas, they got
Osa o'diggy Zua.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (37:40):
Now they need some depth there. They need some big
body depth.

Speaker 5 (37:44):
There.

Speaker 7 (37:46):
Once Micah gets back, the defensive end position is going
to be pretty strong. I think between Uh, assuming he
gets on the field and not passes up like one
point four million to be on the roster the first
week of the season as a rooku has really stepped

(38:07):
up as a rookie. He's got something. Sam Williams is
playing well. Dante Fowler is kind of the forgotten guy
out there. Guy had ten and a half sacks last year,
so I think outside and Marshawn Kneeland is looking like
Marshawn Kneeland was his rookie year until he had the
knee injury. So at defensive end, I think they're good.

(38:31):
I worry about the cornerback position. They haven't really settled
the rotation at running back the Miles Sanders knee injury.
He just got back into practice Tuesday. I don't know
where he is in the rotation. Jaden Blue is still
not back in practice. So you can just count on

(38:52):
Javonte Williams as the starter, and the money suggests he's
the starter, and the reps he got in the first game,
which was none to suggests he's the starter. Now what
happens after that?

Speaker 5 (39:05):
I think.

Speaker 7 (39:08):
Phil Maffa got his hand in the air of I
don't know if you can get me on the practice
squad if I keep playing the way I did. They
got due some run yesterday a little bit, but I
don't know that he's more than a third or fourth
running back. They've been relying on Hunter Lipke quite a
bit as a one back, even in the Nickel situation.

(39:31):
And as Bill likes to say, kind of a Swiss
army knife guy can do a little bit of everything.
So I don't think that's settled. And to me, the
backup quarterback, the backup quarterback is still unsettled. And I
think it was indicative when when Schottenheimer was asked, who's

(39:54):
your backup quarterback? And he said, I don't have to
answer that question.

Speaker 13 (40:00):
And today it'll be interesting, the fifth very interesting what
happens Saturday night and then the following Friday night against Atlanta.

Speaker 3 (40:11):
As far as a quarterback situation, all right, we got
a cornerback in here in eversin Walls and heck Man,
let me ask you first, and then Everson, you piggyback
off this. Stephan Gilmour still out there. How much would
you feel better about this cornerback situation if Gilmore were
on this team.

Speaker 9 (40:29):
Yeah, I think when it comes down to a guy
that's out there, no one else is taken taking a
swing at him, then that tells me there may be
some health concerns with the guy. So I think those
would be my biggest questions at something. You know, it's
just MEI this shoulder. I think it was his shoulder
or leg. There's something going on there, but no one
else is taking a swing at him, So we hadn't
heard about any one else bringing them in.

Speaker 4 (40:49):
I know, we don't know what his price is, right,
and they keep.

Speaker 5 (40:52):
That all under the cloak of darkness.

Speaker 9 (40:53):
So when it comes down to the cornerback room, if
you're going to ask me that question about what I'm
thinking going into this game, my biggest question marks would
be that cornerback room and how you haven't been able
to solidify even any backups that you trust at at
this particular time.

Speaker 5 (41:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (41:11):
Uh, My my concern is how they're handling the adjustment.

Speaker 5 (41:16):
Uh. To me, it's a no brainer.

Speaker 8 (41:18):
If you have a veteran like Bland that can play
outside and then when it comes to passing downs, third
downs or whatever, you can bring him inside. You don't
wanna put anyone with less experience at that slot position.
You want him to be the g on the outside
because it's easier for a young cornerback to carry through
with his his his his responsibilities with that sideline at

(41:42):
at your back.

Speaker 5 (41:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (41:43):
And when you start talking about putting a a young
guy inside on the slot, well, a wide receiver can
work the entire field on someone with that lack of
uh ability to play. I wanna put that the veteran
inside has been Bland is accustomed to that, and then
you put one of the I'm your guys outside. That
still doesn't take away the problems that you have in

(42:05):
regards to depth. But if you want to make that
to me, that one move right there is critical.

Speaker 5 (42:11):
You don't want a young guy inside on the slot.
Just don't.

Speaker 9 (42:15):
And I don't think people understand how hard it is
to be a nickel corner in the NFL, and they
think it's all you're the nickel guy, come in and
play whatever you want. I mean, it completely changes the
dynamic of where you are on the field. And you know,
really Mickey answered the questions about what other's still the
question marks and even after all these weeks of camp,
they are still blaring question marks that you have not

(42:36):
been able to get answered. And for me Sunday, I
am just I'm concentrating on this defense.

Speaker 5 (42:41):
I want to know.

Speaker 9 (42:43):
Can Matt Eberflus's defense stop the run this year?

Speaker 5 (42:47):
That's all I want to know.

Speaker 9 (42:48):
I think I realized with Ceedee Lamb and all these
guys on offensively, we're going to be pretty explosive on
that side, but defensively we haven't been able to stop
the run. We got more edge rushers, then we absolutely
can shake a stick at But in the interior of
our line, can we get that fixed? Our young linebackers
I absolutely love. But ever since, as you know, if

(43:10):
you go back over the league for the last forty years,
and I'm talking about to the Buddy Ryans, the defensive coordinators,
butter Ryans all the way through, guys have a base
defense that they play. I haven't figured out what that
is for him. You know, what are we playing?

Speaker 5 (43:24):
What covered?

Speaker 9 (43:26):
And obviously they're keeping all those things vanilla. But at
the same time, it's like, Okay, we saw dan Quinn
use Micah in multiple places edge middle, little three tech.
He moved all over the place, who are going to
be those guys to that. You know, Sam Williams. Can
he pair Sam Williams with Micah and make that the tandem.

(43:49):
I mean, because a guy like Bill Belichick, you know,
as you know, he had all of those weapons at
his disposal, but he had to use them a certain way.
And I'm looking at the same thing for Matt ebra Fluss.
But on the other side, offensively, the running back position
is still a thing of worry for me until they
find a running back to be able to be balanced, because,
as you know, if you become one dimensional, teams spend

(44:11):
their years back and they come after you spags.

Speaker 8 (44:14):
I don't want to get you fired up over there
again talking about a lack of ability to stop the run.
But what I want to see if you're going to
play vanilla defense, then what we needed to find out
yesterday is what players do we have out there when
we're playing vanilla defense? Knows how to play football. It's

(44:36):
just about their instincts. You want to know what players
have good instincts playing vanilla defense. And I understood that
when you were talking about that yesterday's bags. I understand that.
But what I also saw yesterday was those guys while
playing vanilla defense, they don't have a lot of them
don't have the instincts to understand what an offense is

(44:59):
trying to do to them. It has nothing to do
with how you're playing your defense. It has something to
do with what is your recognition as an individual. When
I was out there trying to play, I saw Michael
Downs out there as a rookie, undrafted free agent Rice University.
This man's going out there making plays as Michael Downs,

(45:20):
a guy that you had never heard of. He didn't
care nothing about what the scheme was. He knew how
to come up, he knew how to fill the gaps,
he knew how to do the basic.

Speaker 5 (45:29):
Things that the safety does. Who is plugged into the
run defense.

Speaker 8 (45:33):
I want to see some Michael downs Is out there
who get it right away.

Speaker 5 (45:37):
And you say that guy's a player.

Speaker 8 (45:40):
That's the guys I want to see out the bags
and I get it the whole thing is all vanilla,
But I still want to say, see who can stand
out under that kind of pressure.

Speaker 4 (45:50):
And Micky, you got one minute for your final mix
shot from Oxnard to respond to what ever? Since you said.

Speaker 7 (45:57):
I want to see what that looks like in the
middle when Osa, Diggy Zoo, Solomon Thomas are out there,
not Denzel Dackson, Jay Tioah.

Speaker 8 (46:11):
You know, and I don't know who's a big time
Cowboy fan Denzel Dackson, was.

Speaker 2 (46:19):
It Perry and Winfrey? Go down the list.

Speaker 7 (46:22):
And yeah, so get the starters out there and then
let's see. Now the depth could be a problem at
this point because they need some young guys uh to
step up, But this team's calling card is gonna be
the offense and and and for that offense to be

(46:43):
the calling card, this young offensive line has to play better.
Otherwise the skill guys and you got a bunch of
skill guys on offense, uh never get to show their skills.
So uh, this offense solidified means the offensive line. Can

(47:05):
can Nate Thomas, who hadn't played in a real football
game since twenty twenty three hold down left tackle? Can
you know Tyler Booker, who has not played in an
NFL game, be able to excel at right guard? And
can Terrence Steele start playing like the Terrren Steele when

(47:29):
they when he earned a big contract and since he
had that ACL injury, we haven't seen that Terrren Steele Yet,
so a lot of this offense is going to depend
on what that offensive line can do. And then I'll
go back to the backup quarterback thing. I think that's
far from settled.

Speaker 3 (47:48):
Okay, well, I think that does it from Oxnard, Mickey,
been a great three and a half weeks.

Speaker 5 (47:55):
Right, can't wait to see you back you, Mick.

Speaker 7 (47:57):
Yes, absolutely, okay. In the booth on Saturday night.

Speaker 5 (48:04):
You hear me, what size that shirt you're wearing?

Speaker 2 (48:06):
Mickey?

Speaker 5 (48:08):
What do you mean?

Speaker 9 (48:09):
What size is the shirt you're wearing right now? I
love the shirt you're wearing. I'm thinking about jacking it
from you when you get here.

Speaker 7 (48:17):
I think it's only a large.

Speaker 2 (48:19):
What does that mean?

Speaker 5 (48:27):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (48:27):
It beats what it means.

Speaker 5 (48:30):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (48:30):
And so Saturday night at and T Stadium the Ravens,
and then we'll be back here next Monday day at.

Speaker 4 (48:38):
Ten am Central time.

Speaker 3 (48:41):
Earlier start time ten am am Monday and Wednesday. Mark
that down in your calendar there ever since yes, sir,
we'll see you Saturday night at the stadium.

Speaker 5 (48:50):
Oh Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (48:52):
