fight song of what will be a fight song filled weekend.
What a wonderful weekend it is. It will culminate with
the Dallas Cowboys at Bank of America Stadium at noon
on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. It started with a
game last night that wasn't my opinion wasn't surprising at
(01:36):
all because I've said from the start of the off
season since the last Super Bowl was played. For the
twenty first season, we will for twenty first straight season,
we will have a different NFC East champions.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Ready to plam that already.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Wow, I just gotation last night that it's going to
be the one of three teams that win the NFC.
That is a bo and welcome to a fabulous football
fight song. Oh you Texas. Weekend edition of Mixed shots
knows how I said, oh you Texas. Some would say Texas.
(02:17):
Oh you all right, you have to go Jones, Nicky Spagnola.
Here we go. Man, it's a wonderful weekend to be alive,
isn't it?
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Man? This is you know what when you're talking about
robbery football, the Red River robbery, say that real fast. Bill,
I'm gonna I gotta ask you because I know you
big time. Oh you donator. You know I'm not.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
The family are Actually they're by extended family. This is
the oil part of the family. That that distance from
me along the northwest entrance to the stadium in Norman,
Oklahoma is the Jones family interests.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Of the Okay, Yeah, so I was gonna say, they
have my money.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
It's that side of the family way over there, don't.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
I've given.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
I've given no money except for when my two daughter,
two of my three daughters went to school there. I
gave plenty of out of state to issue.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Did you say I'm not paying for the wedding if
you don't go to no thread in there somewhere.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
We paid for the weddings too.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Yeah. So what's your feeling about this weekend?
Speaker 1 (03:36):
It kind of depends on the it got upgraded to
probable last night. My feelings got upgraded to probable last
night when the quarterback got upgraded to probable.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Who was your backup?
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Michael Hawkins Junior's good?
Speaker 3 (03:49):
I like?
Speaker 1 (03:49):
I love Michael Hawkins Junior, son of Michael Hawkins senior cowboy. Yeah,
sent some time here and played for OU and but
I just like them. You want your starters playing right anyway.
It's going to be fun. Yeah yeah, So all right,
enough of that. Let's get onto the business of hand.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Which is mixed shots.
Speaker 5 (04:11):
Why am I hearing an echo?
Speaker 4 (04:13):
I am too?
Speaker 5 (04:14):
Okay, good.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Fight through it, fight through it?
Speaker 4 (04:18):
Yeah, yeah, oh there, it is okay.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Correct. But you got on your all black today. You're
feeling pretty good about yourself. Mick, What you do? What
do you mean? I don't know, man. You're dressed in black.
Usually when somebody's dressed in black, they either did something,
broke into something.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
You know what?
Speaker 6 (04:32):
His boy got off last night. That's what happened? Is
that what in the seventeen He had a good game
last night. He's thinking Missouri, we.
Speaker 5 (04:39):
Got a rivalry with Alabama today and I'm supporting.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Wait a minute, but that's not.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
Every I went the last sime I won that game
fifty years ago?
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Oh wow, man, was that seventy.
Speaker 5 (04:53):
Four seventy five.
Speaker 7 (04:57):
Years?
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Was it really? Yeah? Well they didn't play very often
for forty of those Well.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
I just remember that, of course you did. They beat them.
Of course beat the number one team.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
In the nation.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
Oklahoma was the number one team in there were they
to start the season.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
I don't know they wanted at that point.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Okay, don't bring up the nast personal. That's personal. The
second of back to back national Hey, mickey, it'll be
it'll be fifty one years second?
Speaker 4 (05:30):
What okay?
Speaker 3 (05:31):
What sons like? You want to say something about to say?
Speaker 5 (05:34):
Just pay attention? Okay, yeah, gotta play.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
The game, you do?
Speaker 4 (05:37):
He looked like, you know something, watched something?
Speaker 5 (05:40):
Did you watch last night?
Speaker 3 (05:42):
We did?
Speaker 6 (05:42):
Yeah, I saw your Boycataboo. No, I was talking about Robinson, right,
his name. One thought was with with the missoo.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
All the speed.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
I thought, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 6 (05:57):
You just bragged on him. I thought maybe because you
were bragged on the one day because.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
He had a Carol Dragon that showed up last night
and then a Texas Longhorn, little Jordan Humphrey.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
This guy. He's carved out a role for himself everywhere
that he's gone.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
You hook up with Sean Payton, That's what happened with him,
And just like with Chase Daniel, another Carol Dragon hooked
up with Sean Payton Missouri Tright. And but you get
some extra lives in the league. And now due to injuries,
not only the obviously he's not replacing Elik Neighbors, but
(06:33):
he is replacing Darius Slayton for the Giants, and he
got an opportunity last night and he showed up.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
He did you guy exactly. I mean, you guys are
genuinely surprised by the outcome of that thirty four to
seventeen Victary. I'm not at all not Okay.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
No, no, no, and so in fact, in fact I
tweeted it last night. The most surprising thing about it
is that it's not a surprise.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
I was, in my opinion, I was surprised they beat
him that well.
Speaker 6 (06:57):
But that's why we talked after before the show went off,
of like playing at home and I just knew that
that home stadium is going to give him some life.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Cowboys played both of these teams, how did okay? And
we went right down to the wire on both games.
And the Giants were playing a different quarterback when the
Cowboys played them, and I think any Cowboys line went
And I can't wait for when the Cowboys line up
against the Eagles here Thanksgiving week. I'm not gonna lie
and I already got my pick to click in that game.
Speaker 6 (07:23):
I can't wait for us to go to That would
be Cede Lamb. Hey, I can't wait for us to
go to Jersey. I want to beat I want to
meet Beat.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
Well, that's the last game of the season, and this
whole thing may come down to the last game of
this year. The division could come down to the last game.
Speaker 5 (07:37):
And wait, did Jackson Dark surprise you?
Speaker 3 (07:42):
He did?
Speaker 4 (07:43):
He surprised me without how good he played.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
His composure, even when he decided to run yeat like
he knew.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
What he was doing he was running.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Is did he surprise you last Sunday and four days
ago in New Orleans? No, that's the other part of
it is you got one game where there's the Giants
commit five straight turnovers against one of the worst teams
in the league and lose, and then four days later you.
Speaker 6 (08:11):
Gotta be optimistic. You're gonna be optimistic and pessimistic rookies.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
That'll happen.
Speaker 6 (08:16):
Look, we'll look at our look at our defense. Come on,
we have one thing. We're giving up forty, well, two games,
we're giving up forty. Then next thing, you know, we're
only giving up like six for quite quite a while
till they started opening up.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
I keep saying that about Philadelphia, you know, because everybody
knows that I hate the Eagles, and this is true.
I've Jalen Hurts for me. He has been teetering on
this for a very long time in his career. He's
had the success of really good defenses to back him up.
But when you put it on him and the time
calls for him to make big throws when the game
(08:47):
is on the line, he tends to struggle. I don't
understand how they're using Saquon Barkley right now. It's a
good question. Twelve twelve carries fifty eight yards, and I
think that is what's separating them. And also by the
fact by the way their defense, which everybody came into
the season bragging on how good that Howie Roseman the
GM and how he's been building kingdom building, which he
(09:10):
has he has but yeah, but you see what happens
when you have some guys go down and you have
to have other guys replace that next man up. Philosophy
ain't for everybody.
Speaker 6 (09:18):
And that that that that you can say that about
their offensive line. That's why Jalen's not playing well. That's
why is not rushing well. Their offensive line is they're
not playing the way they did. I'm sure they've got
some injuries.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
There Dickerson last night, and they're missing Mackay Beckton from
last year's team at right guard.
Speaker 5 (09:36):
They're not the same team.
Speaker 6 (09:37):
I remember a long time ago, you guys were saying
Jalen hurts.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
You said, just it's something missing.
Speaker 6 (09:43):
And I told y'all a long time ago, just give
that guy help and he's gonna do what he eventually did.
That help is not there anymore for he or Saquan.
So that's what you're looking at now. And you look
at the defensive line. What's up with Jalen Carter?
Speaker 3 (09:57):
Good question? What happened?
Speaker 4 (09:59):
Why didn't he play?
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Good question? Because he didn't. He played like a hurt
player last night. He didn't all, he didn't play at all.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
Yeah, so it's not the same team. So I think
from now on they're no longer the defending world champions
because they're not the same team that won the Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Well, they.
Speaker 5 (10:22):
Not the same team players, they're not. It's just like
being preseason number one in college football. He didn't do
anything to earn that, right, It was just somebody's premonition.
So the same thing with the Eagles there, you realize
they're one position possession away in the season opener from
(10:44):
being three and three. Rou Cowboys had the ball of
the ability got to the forty five yard line installed out,
they could easily won that game and they'd be three
and three ring now.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
And they beat Kansas City twenty to seventeen. They beat
the Rams. Well, how about the Rams game? Rams were
lining up a field goal to win the game, and
uh then Jordan Davis blocks the field goal, returns it
for a touchdown for a seven point win. A home
game there, and then they beat Tampa Bay thirty one
twenty five. What's that?
Speaker 6 (11:16):
That's a grown ass man, right, that play? That was
amazing player that might but.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
The Rams execute that field goal and there game no doubt.
Speaker 5 (11:25):
Yeah no that you don't get that, yeah every week?
Speaker 1 (11:28):
So I just looked at they got these one score.
They are about four plays away from be and O
and six right now.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Imagine not necessay, imagine that a team that is coming
off of a sixth Super Bowl victory, an MVP in
the Super Bowl struggling. You have all of these narratives
that's coming together with his wide receiving corps, and I
think if you look at his wide receivers, you're asking himself, like, man,
with those two guys, how can you be struggling as
mightily as you are offensively? And it's just like man,
(11:58):
these guys red zone. If it's not for the toush
push or other gadget players, what else do they have
going on with it?
Speaker 1 (12:05):
By the way, now they got to run four straight.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
Yeah, and have the officials ignore the false start?
Speaker 3 (12:13):
Right?
Speaker 1 (12:14):
How do they miss that?
Speaker 3 (12:16):
So I ask again what you just said, this was
this year twenty one, that there will be a different
NFC East champion And you're not in the driver's seat,
but you are in a position to see everyone in
front with the team that you have right now pulling
off victories and the winnable games. Guys, what does this
(12:37):
team need to win the NFC?
Speaker 1 (12:39):
You're talking about this team.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
This team, the Dallas Cowboys. Yes, the Dallas Cowboys. Does
that not? Does that not give you a little bit
of pause to say to yourself that, guys, maybe we
can make a run here because of how other teams
it does? It does?
Speaker 6 (12:54):
Yes, it does so good. I was so happy about
last night. But what would they do that put me,
that put put the Giants on notice, or put us
on versus the Giants. I see that team, especially playing
at home, and I know for some reason home field advantage.
There's a reason that they say it. It does give
(13:16):
you an advantage. For the most part, the human condition
is weird to me. I don't know why, because they
the fans don't affect how you play, but somehow they
do affect how you play. You never understood that even
as a player.
Speaker 5 (13:29):
But the Giants fans went there expecting the worst, and
then you think, so they pulled them into the game.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
It was dark, and every time I think I'm out,
you pulled me back in.
Speaker 6 (13:48):
The rookie I really thought that the fans were ready
to win that game.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
I thought they were ready to win.
Speaker 6 (13:54):
That game because they liked the replacement their quarterback. I
thought it was because of Jackson thought that they came
into that game in an optimistic way.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
It didn't take long for them. If they did get
pulled in by the players, it didn't.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
Take long at all.
Speaker 6 (14:06):
No, because I thought that that crowd came there ready
to see the Eagles get.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
You know, how about me? I would sitting there. Okay,
I understand why you go with Russell Wilson because you
got this rookie quarterback, and you look at their schedule
and they got to all they have to play Kansas
City and then the Chargers, and they get a reprieve
against at New Orleans, and then they got Philadelphia, and
then they got Denver, then they got Philadelphia again. You
can't throw a rookie into that. Well, they made the
decision after Russell Wilson outside of one game here, right,
(14:38):
which they wound up losing. All right, So they make
the decision to go with the rookies against the rookie
against the Chargers. Okay, now you're throwing and then you
got to come and then you okay, you get lucky,
you get in New Orleans the next week, but then
four days later you got Philadelphia at home. Well, look
what they did. They beat the Chargers that they beat
the Eagles and they lost the one game that thought
(14:59):
they were going to win at New Orleans.
Speaker 6 (15:02):
Wow, you got, you got. I'm sorry, you gotta give
him credit. I love the way Jackson played. And we
talked about this before we played, before we played the Giants,
that defensive line controlled the Philly offense. But yeah, that
same defensive line that we were all afraid about. They
couldn't stop us, but they stopped the Philadelphia Eagles, and
(15:23):
they stopped them consistently, stop.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
Stopped.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
He had several teams this year.
Speaker 5 (15:31):
This one, right, he had an early run and that.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
Was really had like three early runs.
Speaker 5 (15:35):
Yeah, and then that was it. It looked like, oh,
it's gonna be a long night.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
Right. But I mean, I'm sure Philadelphia came into that
game thinking knowing that they had to control the line
of scrimmage because of the New York Giants defense, and
they and they brought the fight. They brought the fight
to them. But I just scatterboo, whatever this guy is
height wise build. Some guys are just football players.
Speaker 6 (15:59):
With that low center gravity. Man, you can't knock that guy.
I mean, I get it. A fire plug. He's built
like that. But he is just the way that I mean,
the violent running style. You have to ask yourself, how
long can a guy run with that running style? And
it just seems like it's just innately in him to
be like that. And then when you start seeing guys
on the Philadelphia defense not want to tackle this guy,
(16:21):
I'm like, did you see number twenty four making everybody's
making business at one shine?
Speaker 4 (16:26):
Right?
Speaker 3 (16:26):
Then the next time he's like.
Speaker 5 (16:30):
Yeah, you got shoulder past someone else was.
Speaker 4 (16:37):
Around the number twenty four.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
He's twenty four rookie from Texas.
Speaker 6 (16:43):
Well, they start jabbing at each other because I think
two four got him on the sideline. You know, you
can always get a good head as a defender because
the sideline is right there. So you he blasted him
good and Scaterble got up and was like jabbing at him.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
And then the next play they ran again.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
You know what if it was mccooba that you're talking about,
there was a history there they do because because they
played yeah in the in the college football playoffs, very
highly controversial at that uh Texas and Arizona State that
terms of sixteen, Well that was the play that quinn
Ewers hit Matthew Golden a touchdown to force overtime, which
(17:24):
but it was the controversial you was now controversial penalty
you know that went Texas way, that did not go
Arizona State's way. That people are still talk the hell
of a game.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (17:38):
Did you watch the post game show.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
I did not.
Speaker 5 (17:41):
They had at one point you had to stay with it,
but they had Dart and Scatterboo on at the same time.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
That part outside put him on Mike.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
They ripped his shirt.
Speaker 5 (17:52):
Yeah, they did the take it off deal with Fitzpatrick
and he took all his stuff off, got to his
T shirt and then ripped it off.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
Who did scataboo sattoo?
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Right?
Speaker 5 (18:04):
And they got Jackson Dart's parents. They're interviewing and the
thing and Darts acting like he his senior here in college,
like he had no worries in the world, and he
was pretty magnetic personality. I could see why people probably
will follow it.
Speaker 8 (18:24):
Well.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
I don't know how he looked after the doing after
the Saints game. I don't know what kind of attitude
he had, But every time I've seen him, he's.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
Had the be confidence.
Speaker 4 (18:33):
Yeah, yeah, every.
Speaker 6 (18:34):
Time I've seen him, But I have I didn't watch
him in losing situation, like you said about the Saints.
But every time I've seen him, he's had a very
updep upbeat positive.
Speaker 5 (18:44):
When did he get drafted? It his first round, nineteenth pick,
nineteenth something like that. Yeah, he might be the best one.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
Out of Well cam Ward went first and Dart was second.
Speaker 5 (18:58):
But this guy looks like Jillan Gabriel.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
Dyllan Gabriel was the third one. He went in the
third round.
Speaker 6 (19:03):
Cawboy. He doesn't have a great team around that, dude.
It's something about him as well, though. Both of those
guys are just amazing quarterbacks.
Speaker 5 (19:13):
Well, all I know is nobody in the NFC East
has fewer losses than the Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
That's something. How about that might be time to make
a move.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
In time to take a break.
Speaker 5 (19:23):
That's why this upcoming game vitally important.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
Okay, so we're gonna get into the upcoming game next.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
Okay, we don't have a rundown all Yeah, I don't
know we're going on here.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
I'm at a loss. What do we do?
Speaker 1 (19:37):

He might be, he might be.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Okay, Okay, there's.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
Yeah. Oh that doesn't go with an Italian. Oh no,
I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
All right, what did you find out from a shoddy
press conference today? And you're taking a long look at
a long injury report.
Speaker 5 (22:40):
Well, they've got one, two, three, four, five, six, seven,
eight nine guys that did not practice yesterday. Now, Dante
Fowler was ill, so you would think in a couple
of days he should be good. Sounded like when Shottenheimer
was talking about Joe Milton. It's a non injury personal
(23:03):
sounds like the birth of a child, So he should
be good. Ceedee lamb, he's out Booker, he's out Mingo.
Surprisingly went from full to did not practice, so well
he started his deal, and I don't know if there
(23:23):
was some residual effect of being full in practice. It
was his knee, right, yeah, we'll see what it is.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
It's his knee.
Speaker 5 (23:31):
Miles Sanders knee ankle went from limited to did not practice,
So maybe he started too soon, Cavante Turpin will be out.
And then they got a bunch of guys that are limited,
and I would say Tyler Smith will be available to play,
(23:52):
Janye Thomas, Yes, Donovan Wilson, Yes, Carson, They're gonna have
to see. And then Tyler got Geyton went from limited
to full and I'm guessing he's good to go. But
I would not rule out them getting Nate Thomas. Ready,
that's gonna happen for some No, he's gonna get if
(24:12):
he has.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
What game was that that he came in for like
a couple of plays Green Was that Green Bay? You're
talking about Ate Thomas?
Speaker 5 (24:20):
Yeah, if he did a series for Terrence Steele. They
practiced him there to do that and he was going
to get more. And then when Geyton got hurt, he
took over left tackle and went from right tackle to the
left tackle.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
That is they got to do to do.
Speaker 5 (24:38):
Yeah, and they really like Clayton. Adams liked him before
back in training camp. He thought this guy had something
because I was like, he's working with the first team.
We thought he was competing with awesome Richards. And then
they trade Richards and he's the backup choices.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
Yeah, like a seventh of Life New Orleans.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
Yeah, sponsor of the show.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
Oh that's something of great value.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
I mean six, that's.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
He's about to tell a story I can't remember it about.
Tell a story about Jimmy Johns.
Speaker 5 (25:27):
Yes, Jimmy A case of beer. He wanted.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
I wish I could have my I would have had
that look. That that's the look.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
The look he was. I can't remember the players because
he was let's just don't worry about it.
Speaker 5 (25:48):
Give me, uh he told Dave.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
Shula, Yeah, case of beer.
Speaker 5 (25:51):
You can have this guy.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
And he's like, and Shula is like, I'll give you something.
No where about it. Just give me, give me a
beer down there.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
Yeah yeah, hold on, y'all'll talk about the fantas.
Speaker 5 (26:03):
So anyway, from an injury standpoint, they could get a
couple guys back, but the majority of them are probably
still out to at least next week. They've ramped up
the rehab for Booker and CD Lamb, and you.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Know why they look good doing it. You know why
they're playing Washington next week. That's right, And Washington's doing
the same with Terry McLaurin. McLaren's been out and I'm
thinking maybe out this week. But McLaren will be back
next week and CD will be back next week. That's
my prediction.
Speaker 5 (26:38):
And and uh it it seemed like just watching what
we get to watch, Tyler Smith was pretty active.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
He should be good to go.
Speaker 5 (26:50):
So we still have Booker and Hoffman center guard.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
Good stuff. I like those two guys. Yeah, that that,
and I think you alluded to the fact that they preseason,
the time that they've spent together on task together makes
that synergy between them so important, and you see it
paying dividends in the running game this week against the
Carolina Panthers. They're gonna have their work cutout for them.
In the middle of that Carolina defenses a very very
(27:17):
good tackle, I mean a defensive tackle and they and
I think getting this running game established just like any
other week is very important. But I think it just echoes.
It just gives the Dak Prescott the success or, at
least the vision too in the time to be able
to find and pinpoint his wide receivers because everyone is
(27:37):
so worried about Javonte Williams. And this may be one
of the fastest NFL games of the weekend because of
you know, the two running back Ric o'daldo and Javonte Williams,
So don't get up. It's gonna be one. It's gonna
be a quick one.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
And Derek Brown, by the way, as a guy that
they move around on that defensive line. So it affects
everybody on the Cowboys offensive.
Speaker 5 (27:59):
Line than Quinning Williams.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
Well, I mean, he's right there with him. I mean,
he missed up almost all of last year with an injury,
and he's punging back at the same level that he
did two years ago when he had one hundred three
tackles as a defensive linems's one hundred three tackles. That's incredible.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
Yeah, And so I think everyone has been trying to
expose our weakness, seemingly thinking that it would be between
our center and our right guard, and it's turning out
the TJ. Vass is a little crazy.
Speaker 6 (28:31):
I don't he doesn't believe it.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
I mean, he is one of those guys you just
watch him specifically play and you're like, man, this guy
has a little bit of nasty to him. You know,
It's some one thing to watch an offensive lineman, you know,
just do his job. But then it's another thing to
watch a guy chasing guys down the field and just
nasty about his work.
Speaker 6 (28:51):
So do we continue with the same pace, same methodology.
Do we continue running the ball or do we feel
like we have some mismatches in the secondary?
Speaker 3 (29:03):
I think we do.
Speaker 5 (29:05):
I think they tried to continue running the ball, which
helps if you're doing it effectively helps your defense. Right,
Maybe they're not on the field as long, shorter you know,
shorter possessions, but yeah, I think they do.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
Very curious to see and plays against.
Speaker 5 (29:24):
Hoffman pointed out that Bass doesn't say much. Now he's
trash talking.
Speaker 3 (29:29):
There you go.
Speaker 6 (29:30):
And they used to say Larry Bird didn't talk trash
and have come to find out that's all he did.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
Yeah, so I like.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
That while the other guy, Hoffman's talking all the time.
Speaker 5 (29:38):
Yeah, he didn't shut up.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
Now.
Speaker 6 (29:41):
I can't wait to see how our defense matches up
against their running game. I've got to see some improvement.
Speaker 5 (29:50):
But you know, if you take away Rico's two hundred
and six yards rushing in the previous four games, they
were at one hundred and eight yards rushing a game,
so it wasn't like they were just blowing everybody.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
Here's Here's the other thing is they are missing their
right tackle, Taylor Moton, who's out with an elbow injury.
And so they are actually down three starting offensive lineman.
And we talked about the Cowboys played last week without
four starting offensive linemen.
Speaker 10 (30:21):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
They lost Austin Corbett, their center for the season, Robert Hunt,
who they spent a lot of money a one hundred
million dollar contract. He's out for the year. And now
Moton is out for this game. Yes, and uh and
and Moton, their right tackle is out, so Yosh Nyman
will get the start at the tackle. Yosh Nyman. He
started their season opener against Jacksonville, which is a twenty
(30:45):
six to TENE.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
I'm glad you knew that that Jay was silent because
it will sound right nman.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
And I and I j m A n yeah yeah yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
It's just one of those names. Man's hat to pronounce
you though.
Speaker 5 (31:02):
Says here rhymes with Josh yosh yeah.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
Gosh yeah yeah.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (31:07):
So are we looking at some backups that are along
the same line as Hoffmann and Bass? I mean, are
these guys capable backups? Have they played at all this year?
Speaker 1 (31:20):
Caide Mays is their starting center who was a sixth
round draft pick in twenty twenty two out of Tennessee.
Started his college career at Georgia. Brady Christiansen was a
third round pick in twenty twenty one out of BYU.
He came into the league as a tackle and he
played right guard last week. I don't know, heckm if
(31:43):
you took a close look at them, I saw some things.
Number seventy was not one of their strengths. I don't
think on their offensive line what I looked at. And
then there's Josh Niman, number seventy seven that's starting at
and he played with Green Bay earlier in his career.
Six seven, three hundred four team pounds is your right tackle.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
They got off to a zero to two start, and
I'm telling the offense that looked like that. There's no
way young was ever going to survive through the season
because of the hits that he was thinking. And all
of a sudden, they get Atlanta and they beat Atlanta
thirty to zero, and then you're saying, what the hell's
going on with the Falcons? And then they turned back
into a pumpkin, you know, after that.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
Austin New England forty two to thirteen, and then fell
behind Miami seventeen to nothing and came back in one
night year.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
So this is one of those teams it's really hard
to put your finger on. My thing is I'm just
going with our strength, yes, and our strength is George
Pickens and against Horn, I think you have a matchup
that you can expose a weakness. I'm not saying that
Jase Horn is one of the weakest corners in the league.
(32:48):
I just don't think that he is elite level like
everybody kind of gives him that reputation. And I think
he's going up against the guy in George Pickens that
you can expose that whenever you want to. Middle of
the For me, also, you know our favorite guy, Jake Ferguson.
Ferguson got Jake Ferguson. I think there's other there's other
(33:10):
things that mismatches that you can find on that defense.
But oh, by the way, that third and fourth wide
receiver room should still have some success against the other.
Speaker 5 (33:21):
So you think they're gonna leave a rookie in man
the whole game against George Pickens.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
No, no, No, jac Horn their their cornerback.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
Yeah no, he's eighth picking the draft in twenty twenty one.
Then Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
You got the wrong horn.
Speaker 5 (33:36):
I got the wrong horn.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
Oh you're looking at Jimmy Horn. I thought in Colorado,
who actually got his first action last week and he
had an impact last week. Little guy five eighth played
for coach Bryant at Colorado.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
I like him. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (33:50):
I think any match up with George Pickings, we win.
That's what I think. Any cornerback we put on George
pick unless he's someone like a Ramsey, someone who has
a lot of experience and a lot of success. You
have a lot of success to go up against somebody
like Pickings, you got you have to have your own style.
You have to have your own dog in you. You
have to match him dog for you.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
Joe Horn's kid, Yeah, I know, Yeah, I like it.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
I like it. He's a he's a good dah.
Speaker 1 (34:16):
Yeah, he's a saying that he's been. He's battled injuries
early in his career. He didn't make the Pro Bowl
last year and so and he's played for Carolina.
Speaker 6 (34:26):
And you know, dog Gonewell Pickens is waiting to expose him.
Speaker 5 (34:31):
And you know Dak is going to trust right.
Speaker 6 (34:35):
That trusts everybody.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
His problem. He told everybody he's learning though, he's learned.
I think it's and especially it's got to be a
parent in film study. When he's watching these two routes,
he's looking at jayaln tober tho one end and George
Pickens on the other end and saying at Florida. But
I'm just saying, as the routes developed on the outside,
I should have thrown in the roof season. Yeah right,
(35:01):
But it's just his line of sight and his trust.
But you know, when Ceedee Lamb comes back, and I
know when Ceedee Lamb is back, Ceedee Lamb's got to
be licking his chops knowing that, Man, I have a
bona fide guy on the other side that now defenses
have to honor it that they can't just put all
of their attention on me. And when the running game
is clicking like that, I mean, look, these guys are
(35:24):
going to be unstopped. But this is my opinion. I
think that that office is going to be unstopping.
Speaker 1 (35:28):
And it's actually said he would never look at it
this way. No one looks at it this way. But
as long as they take care of business and win
this game. Okay. The relationship that Dak has now established
with pickings during this time only is going to benefit
this offense going forward when both of them are back helped.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
Don't you think they needed that?
Speaker 5 (35:49):
Yeah, well they knew it. Those two guys knew it right.
Speaker 4 (35:51):
They had to come into fruition the right.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
Right, they knew time on task doing it right.
Speaker 3 (35:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (35:57):
So, by the way, I want you guys to have
this visual the governor Greg Abbott, is that practice yesterday?
Speaker 3 (36:09):
Was it? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (36:09):
On the sideline and guess who was having a conversation
with him, Charles Haley? Would you pay to be everything?
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Okay? Did everything? Okay? I saw that?
Speaker 5 (36:25):
Oh my god.
Speaker 6 (36:28):
And then I can see, don't know, I'm not going
got a visual.
Speaker 5 (36:34):
Then they slowed down the drugs machine and the governor
governor was catching passes.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
Off the judge machine.
Speaker 5 (36:44):
But Todd Williams was standing right there and there was
an arrant pass.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
Well you got she catches on it.
Speaker 5 (36:52):
Yeah, but they were catching it to the side.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
There you go, there you go.
Speaker 6 (36:56):
That's that's a lot safer than going there, right.
Speaker 3 (36:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
I guess he never mind in case someone turns up
the speed. All right, we got our picks to click
and who wins here on mixed shots, in just a moment.

All right, final segment of the week here on Mixed Shots.
We actually left a little bit of time here. We
they don't have to go straight to our picks to
yeah we do, Yeah we do. Oh, because you got
a lot to talk about?
Speaker 4 (39:50):
Yeah, well, we always have a lot to talk about.
Speaker 1 (39:52):
You're concerned about the story from the Carolina Panther Dallas
Cowboy Pass that I'm gonna tell I'm gonna eat up.
Speaker 4 (39:59):
Some time that way. I cannot wait? Did I tell you?
I can't wait?
Speaker 3 (40:04):
A story from the Bill Joms?
Speaker 1 (40:08):
What else you got on your legal pad they're making.
I think I liked what I wasn't able to listen
to all of Schottenheimer on my drive in, but I
liked where some of it was going, and I'm so
I can't wait to listen to the rest of it.
They were getting into make up of the coaching staff
relationship with some of the guys that are close to Shottenheimer.
Speaker 5 (40:29):
I think it was good when he was talking about
when he almost took a year off and then in
twenty twenty two be a consultant and was actually a
defensive consultant.
Speaker 1 (40:41):
Became here well, he was here, you know, he was
basically mutual agreement fired in Seattle after the twenty twenty season.
Then he goes to Jacksonville as a past game coordinator
with Urban Meyer, and you know how that turned out.
And so then he was without a job, and so
he was asked a job experience, and so it was
(41:06):
at that point he had a decision to make. He
had an offer as it to be a consultant analyst
here with his good friend Mike McCarthy and good friend
Dan quinn as well in twenty twenty two. And also
he said he had offers to continue coaching as well,
a traditional role, but he also wanted to do he
(41:28):
felt like he especially the age of his kids teenagers,
you know, he felt like he wanted to spend that
quality time with his family. So it worked out perfect
in his consulting role here at freed up time for
him to spend time with family as well. And he
said he feels like now looking back, it really benefited
him in his current position by being able. I mean,
(41:49):
he grated a lot. He looked at a lot of
film throughout that time and there are some things that
they are doing offensively now that he wasn't doing previously
as an offensive coordinator, and he attributes it to the
study of not only what the Cowboys were doing, but
around the league what offenses are doing, and some of
that stuff is in his philosophy is amazing.
Speaker 5 (42:12):
How he opens up about that, Yeah, yeah, really good stuff.
Speaker 3 (42:15):
That was good.
Speaker 5 (42:16):
He also pointed out about the Marvin Overshown. Yeah, you know,
and he went out of his way to say, yeah,
he's hitting all the markers. He's getting closer. But he said,
normally with those guys, it takes the full twenty one days,
meaning when they first take you off ir and you
(42:37):
can practice that he probably say, okay, you're three weeks
away from playing, So he went out of his way
to say that, but he said he's getting closer.
Speaker 3 (42:47):
So if you.
Speaker 5 (42:48):
Watch him out there, I mean it's it's it's full speeded.
Speaker 4 (42:53):
I'm sure he got inspired by meeting me yesterday.
Speaker 5 (42:55):
So Overshown, but no.
Speaker 4 (42:57):
Talking about the coach.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
Oh oh, he aspired, Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 6 (43:01):
That All I said was me they play calling, and
I think I saw his face light up.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
So tell us about it.
Speaker 6 (43:10):
I was just after we're walking, Yeah, we were walking out.
You stopped and I was looking at the players and
he passed by.
Speaker 3 (43:17):
I hope he thought it was me.
Speaker 6 (43:19):
He never said ever since, but he said, hey, something
something something.
Speaker 1 (43:22):
Man.
Speaker 6 (43:22):
I was like, hey, coach, come come here, man, give
us a love, and you know, told him I love
his play call.
Speaker 4 (43:28):
He never called my name, so I hope he thought.
Speaker 3 (43:30):
He knew exactly. I hope he knew.
Speaker 1 (43:31):
I'm sure he's a suitor of the game.
Speaker 4 (43:33):
Yeah, I mean so he actually called me out.
Speaker 5 (43:37):
So he might have saw your picture on the wall
and said.
Speaker 3 (43:40):
Oh, yeah, that guy that does not.
Speaker 4 (43:44):
That's not that's not me on the wall.
Speaker 1 (43:46):
Okay, we killed the time. Yeah, So now here we
go as a tour comes through. I hope there's some
O U fans and.
Speaker 5 (43:52):
This one maybe Oh you red shirt.
Speaker 1 (43:55):
It's a long war.
Speaker 3 (43:57):
That's Nike Texas on you Texas? O you who Texas? No,
she said no.
Speaker 4 (44:04):
Now, she's oh you right here, She's like, oh you
right there?
Speaker 6 (44:07):
You go, all right, all right, very good, all right,
well look all right, all right, I'm ready for you guys.
Speaker 1 (44:12):
Go for it now.
Speaker 6 (44:13):
I always look at these games as if this is
what the Cowboys have to do in order to win,
all right, these are the guys that have to play well.
Speaker 4 (44:20):
It's going to have to be the score. I look
at us a huge tour.
Speaker 5 (44:25):
No no, I'm distracted.
Speaker 4 (44:27):
No no, no, you're good, You're good.
Speaker 7 (44:28):
Here you hey.
Speaker 6 (44:30):
I'm looking at the Cowboys controlling the right.
Speaker 1 (44:34):
Oh you oh you, oh you go?
Speaker 3 (44:38):
He did this.
Speaker 6 (44:40):
I'm looking at the Cowboys controlling the game defensively. Cowboys
offense is going to feed off of that, just as
they did last week.
Speaker 4 (44:47):
But I have to look for a.
Speaker 6 (44:50):
Repeat performance from James the linebacker, James Shamar James.
Speaker 4 (44:56):
I'm looking at.
Speaker 6 (44:56):
Ten plus tackles, looking at the Cowboys to win thirty
three to ten, thirty three to ten thirty three.
Speaker 4 (45:05):
They're gonna try and run the ball on us.
Speaker 6 (45:07):
I think eventually we're gonna we're gonna have to stop
them from running the ball. That's going to give our
offense the ball more often. I think we're gonna get
thirty three points out of them, and I don't think
we're gonna just let them march up and down the
field when the game is in hand.
Speaker 1 (45:22):
You know, the Cowboys played at Carolina two years ago,
November nineteenth, twenty twenty three. You know what the final
score was. Thirty three to ten. Wow, you take you've taken.
Speaker 3 (45:35):
Look at you rubbing off?
Speaker 1 (45:36):
You're taking at my buck.
Speaker 3 (45:39):
That's all right, that's okay.
Speaker 6 (45:41):
That game pretty much came out like that. You know
they tried to run all that nothing.
Speaker 1 (45:46):
Work played there last year? This is it was December
last year it was and this was with Cooper Rush
at quarterback. Cowboys win thirty to fourteen.
Speaker 3 (45:56):
So now all right, so can I get hey my
time here? All right? Hey, football is full of moments
and momentum, and I feel like right now the Cowboys
have momentum off of the game from the New York Jets,
and I feel like one tight end room is feeling
(46:18):
a lot better about themselves. We talked about Lounda Wells
and his impact. I am going to go with my
man for Kittle Kelsey. You know what it is. I
think this is although you have all these options as
that the wide receiver, I feel like he's a guy
that can haul the middle of the field. And Dak
Prescott loves and trusts this guy. And I'm going to.
Speaker 6 (46:39):
Numbers of catches are touchdown, I'm going I'm gonna go
a touchdown for Ferguson.
Speaker 3 (46:44):
I say at least seventy five yards. I'm going to
give him eight catches. Nice eight catches, and my final
score for this game it's going to be twenty eight
twenty three, Cowboys win, twenty eight twenty three.
Speaker 5 (47:02):
I was nervous over here, and I want to have
proof that I wrote this down previously for my score.
I'm not copy that I had the Cowboys thirty three
twenty three.
Speaker 4 (47:13):
Oh okay, that's not bad.
Speaker 3 (47:14):
Are you copying?
Speaker 6 (47:15):
No?
Speaker 3 (47:15):
No, no, you just wrote that down right there.
Speaker 5 (47:18):
It's on yesterday's.
Speaker 3 (47:20):
Okay, how do we prove that would.
Speaker 5 (47:22):
Pin because it says Charles Hayley and Gray here's Mike.
Speaker 12 (47:29):
We'll take that thirty and I don't know that it's
going to be volume, but it's gonna be one play
that's going to change the difference in this game, and
it will be provided by Jayden Blue.
Speaker 4 (47:47):
Okay, but that came out of nowhere.
Speaker 5 (47:49):
That's right, and he's gonna come out of nowhere.
Speaker 1 (47:52):
Look, Sanders, I'm not gonna be ready to go.
Speaker 5 (47:55):
Yeah. I don't think give me that score against back
thirty three twenty three thirty three? Oh you're threes in
his twenty three?
Speaker 3 (48:01):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (48:02):
Well he picked the Texas Longhorn. That just changed my pick.
Speaker 5 (48:08):
What you were going to do that?
Speaker 1 (48:09):
No, I wasn't going to go with him. I was
going to go I was gonna go with Hunter Lipke.
And the reason why is you recall the first time
the Cowboys ever played the Carolina Panthers at what was
then Ericsson Stadium now Bank of America Stadium.
Speaker 5 (48:24):
Where they'll be playing playoff game.
Speaker 1 (48:26):
The playoff game. Okay, this twenty nine years of misery
started in that playoff game the nineteen ninety six season,
won by the Carolina Panthers twenty six to seventeen. Daryl
Johnston happened to score a touchdown in that game for
the Cowboys. That's why I was going with Hunter Lipke
as my pick to click in this game. But I'm
(48:46):
picking a Cowboys where we're getting revenge for that and
we're turning the tide on this twenty nine years here
in Charlotte, North Carolina where it all started, where the
twenty six seventeen Cowboys win.
Speaker 3 (49:00):
Think this defense is going to hold him the seventeen points.
Speaker 1 (49:02):
Yes I do, Yes, I yes, I do, And I
can see that.
Speaker 4 (49:08):
So my pick to click, Since you gotta grow up sometimes.
Speaker 1 (49:11):
Since you picked Jayden Blue, I'm going with Kenneth Murray
as my pick to click on this o U Texas weekend.
Speaker 5 (49:18):
And he's going to be a middle linebacker.
Speaker 1 (49:20):
My choices were him or Tyler Guidon, and I went
with Murray.
Speaker 4 (49:25):
Well, Murray's gonna give me, give me him?
Speaker 3 (49:27):
What how about it?
Speaker 1 (49:29):
Well, how about a pick pick? Okay, we got to pick. Okay,
we're gonna pick off Bryce Young.
Speaker 3 (49:35):
There you go. How's that going on? That's having a
limb right, then.
Speaker 5 (49:40):
You should have gone with a sack me.
Speaker 1 (49:43):
Yeah, for Shamar James.
Speaker 3 (49:46):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (49:46):
Interesting, you still got to know they're gonna send him no, no, no,
I'm good. And also with their offense. Just remember Bryce
Young's completing sixty percent of his passes.
Speaker 3 (49:59):
All right, that takes nouns like a plan. Victory Monday,
you're gonna miss it. Every side.
Speaker 1 (50:06):
We're gonna have a lot to talk about on victory Monday.
Speaker 4 (50:09):
