Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Fitting and Whipper with Kate Richie podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
The holiday industry is on fire at the moment.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Let's be honest.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Remember during the pandemic and they thought flight Center was
going to go under. Cornice is gone. We need government funding.
They are flying, they're making a lot of money. I mean,
they're not doing any favors on the way. Let's be honest,
no that I I mean reputations are down a little
bit at the moment. They're not the most trusted people
going around.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
What's expensive still?
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Man? Do you know what makes me really angry? And
I know there's tariffs and I know fuel's gone. Ryanair,
I mean we don't have Ryan Air in Australia, but
how's this Ryanair over in Europe? Yeah, my airline is now.
They are giving bonus to staff members for intercepting people
(00:47):
with oversized luggage. So if you work at Ryan Air,
they're going to give you a dollar fifty one one
dollar fifty euro for every passenger you bust with oversized luggage,
and you can get up to eighty extra euro a
month for all staff members if you can bring in
as many as you can so they get center advised
(01:12):
if they actually bust more people who are trying to
get more luggage and more weight onto the flight.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Tell me if this is logical thinking. I don't know
anything about weight on airlines, but they obviously have a
waste factor that's built in so that if anybody, they're
never at capacity in that if anybody decides and they
sneak through with lead in their bag, the plane's not
going to be able to take off. But I think
they'll obviously be able to weigh the plane before it's
in the air, so you can tell how much weight
(01:37):
is on the plane. So is the idea that we
will save more money in fuel with the less weight
we have.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Well, I think over in Europe they I mean, they
enforce it more than anywhere in the world. But your
bag needs to be in the right dimensions and it
needs to weigh a certain amount, and they are full
on whip. You rock up to the airport and they
will check every bag that you have. And the funny
funny thing is all these television shows that you see
(02:08):
on airports, it's always people trying to sneak their bags
on carry on so they don't have to check in.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Well, they're wearing twenty five jackets. There was a guy
next to me the other day when we're checking in,
his luggage was way open and they said, oh yeah,
it's an extra seventy dollars a kilo. Seventy dollars a
kilo of extra luggage. So is that to balance out
the cost of the fuel for the heavier plane?
Speaker 2 (02:29):
I think it is. Yeah, it is that.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
How works idea.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
That could be coming to Australia very soon. How's this
in Australia. Unbelievable? But Anset is back? What am I
with Anset? Absolutely? That's he had his eye to matros
there with handset. I mean that was the last ad
that we saw on handset. But it is back and
(02:55):
they're not flying. There's no planes whip but it is
an AI powered travel age and see Anset Airlines. Now
I didn't know this, but the guy who started it up, No,
the lady that started it up, she's an entrepreneur in Melbourne.
She said, I registered the trademark because it ran out.
No one's used the Anset trademark for so long, so
(03:16):
I thought, you know what, everyone knows the word anset,
they can relate to it, So why don't I start
up a travel agency Anset Airlines. It's back one. You
can book your holidays Anset.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
When Anset wrapped up, when would that have been, I
don't know, twenty years ago it was. It was quite
sad because I was sure it was an Australian story,
but also the family was at the airport and they
had their arms around us. My grandfather founded this and
it's been in our family for all these where devastated,
so I just assumed the family held onto the rights
(03:47):
to Anset, but they weren't actively doing anything.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Well, this right and you don't have to keep trademarking
because you're never going to use it again. It's so
expensive to start up a new airline. There was a
guy that I knew. He was an AFL scout whip,
so he would fly all around Australia to go and
try to find the next new crop of superstar players.
So he only flew Handset and I remember at the
(04:12):
time him he was saying to me, mate, I have
got over a million Handset frequent flyers and I am
booking in the family and we're going to do a round.
We've never been outside of Australia. We're going to do
around the world trip with our frequent flyers and then
they went under. How did that? God?
Speaker 1 (04:29):
He did unfortunately get you know what they keep saying
to me. Do I want to fly conders? Do I
want to fly those points?
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Mate? Hold on to him, honey. Another couple of years
and we'll get around the world.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Not going to speed him yet, we'll be off.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Will we go off?
Speaker 1 (04:44):
