Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Fitsy and Whip with Kate Richie podcast.
Big announcement this morning. If you're tuning into Sunrise, you
would have been confusing watching Sunrise and listening to us
at the same time. You heard all the great radio
from us. But there was also a big announcement this
morning on Sunrise. How listen.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
After thirty years working with a seven network, and after
a lot of long nights and thinking about it, the
time is right for me to step away from Sunrise.
Working in this job and in sport has been my dream.
It's given me the most extraordinary experiences and memories.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
I could ever have wished for.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
It will treasure all the many good times and all
the many great friendships. I'm so proud to have been
a part of Sunrise, and it's incredibly hard to leave
behind my Sunrise family and the show that we've all
put so much energy into for the last twenty two years.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
Clap him in, Mark Burrell, breat well forbody, Good morning legends,
All right, welcome big moment name.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Oh yeah, look at it. Just for pretty emotion. I
got to say, I mean, Kate, you know what this
is like. It's seven becomes such a part of your
life and your family and to decide that the time
is right, it's time to go as hard at thirty
years of your life. And we sort of build up
Sunrise with a team over a long period and we've
had twenty two years as the number one Bricky show,

(01:13):
which has been an honor. But yeah, it comes a
time we kind of think about other things and life
change a little bit and I need to spend some
time with my mum and help her through her cancer.
So there's a lot to do.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
It consumes your life, Barettes. We've been in the industry,
We get up at the same time as you and
it does. It does. It consumes your life and it
knocks you around. Are you going to continue working or
are you just going to have a bit of a
break and focus on family.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Baretts, I'll have a little break, but I can't not work.
I love it. I love sport. You know, it's a
bit of an obsessions. And the thing that's always made
it for me is the viewers for us and the
listeners for you and you go, you know what I'm
talking about. Just that connection you get with people. It's
so special and you know, these jobs are a real privilege.

(02:04):
They let you do things you would never imagine that.
That connection with people right around the country is just
magic for me. So, you know, I want to keep working.
I love sport, you know really, it's such a such
an awesome thing, as you guys know, to be around.
It's just magic. So I've got a couple of things
on the radar for next year, which looking forward to.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Yeah, there's a few rumors flying around that you're going
to get back into professional water skiing. I heard that
Barrets of speed skiing.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
Yeah, cycling, I could go pro cycling to the twist branch.
I'm not saying too much guys this day.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Any other TV shows you'd like Farmer, Well, well, I don't.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
Mind the amazing race actually travel around the world.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
I reckon, you can do Survivor.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Yeah, I love.

Speaker 5 (02:49):
This many years in television you're doing Mark. I mean,
I think you're the ultimate survivor.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
Barrett. Can I just say with your time there, you
had some amazing moments. It takes me back to like
remember when Bieber went there the first time on the
Sunrise said, yeah, what was that? Oh my gosh, what
was a moment that blew you away? In that twenty
two years on Sunrise. Barett's Bieba was.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Was pretty hard the top and we shut down the city.
We didn't expect it, you know, fa thing with one
direction turned up, you know, one direction, the same deal.
It just just shut the city and it was incredible.
But look, to be honest, it's hard to pick a
great sporting moment because I've been lucky to probably talk
to every great sports person you can imagine. I've been
lucky enough. And that's the thing. If you hang around

(03:36):
long enough, you get to talk to everyone. Yeah, so
it's just been I'm seriously, I'm just in a spin
at the moment. It's all just sort of flooding around
in my head and it's a bit emotional as well.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
It is Brett's I could see you in coshe going
on tour conversation with Brett not the full Monty.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
Right around the country on motorile bikes.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Make it a TV show?

Speaker 5 (04:04):
Yeah, I think that I know exactly what you're talking about.
It does become much more than a job. It is
a family and you've basically you've grown up there as well.
What are you going to do on those that first
week where you don't have to get out of bed.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
Yeah, I'm thinking you guys will be this but sleep
in crazy crazy. I might go from bed to the
beach and just jump in the water.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Nor sorry about give us a fall and tell us
what that's like. But it's when you do that.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
I don't know if you know. But small'sy's left no
Ova Now any chance you would do a night show here.

Speaker 3 (04:39):

Speaker 4 (04:43):
