Speaker 1 (00:08):
It's a mess out there.

Speaker 2 (00:09):

Speaker 1 (00:20):
I'm here.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Can you guys hear me?

Speaker 4 (00:21):
Okay, we have got your superstar.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
We're just talking about scary kids films, And then we
were talking about films we should write down for our
kids to watch, and I said, et. We tried it
in our house, but it was way too scary for
my seven year old. And now we do the old
ET when she needs to be scared into submission.

Speaker 4 (00:40):
Yeah, very powerful.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
I jumped the gun with my son and I was
just so excited to share Nightmare before Christmas.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Horrible idea, how he's only a couple of years. Yeah,
And I was.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Just trying to like speed through all the scary parts,
and I was like, the whole movie is scary.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
I think there are so many films that you watch
now that we were probably sat down in front of
when we were kids that we just thought were fine.
I don't know what you grew up on, Halsey, but
we'd watch the film Grease and I loved that film,
but the themes in Greece are far too old for
young girls. I think so.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
My nickname when I was little, because I had really curly,
dark hair, you know, was Rizzo. As I got older,
I was like, I don't know if that's a compliment.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
No Rio is the bad girl. Didn't she she fell
pregnant out of wedlock? Oh god?

Speaker 2 (01:33):
So did?

Speaker 3 (01:33):
I just real hare.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
Holsey, Was there a movie that scarred you when you
were younger as a kid outside of Greece.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
I had an uncle babysitting me who let me watch
the original it?

Speaker 4 (01:49):
Oh my god.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
And how do you feel about clowns these days?

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Mostly terrified? But there's this girl on Instagram I follow
who makes these tiny little clown sculptures. I just love
watching her make them, and I feel like it's like
exposure therapy. It's like making me less afraid of clown
I'm sorry this is not a focused interview at all,
because we.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Were going to talk about Lucky. But before the interview,
I was saying that I know this is an old song,
but I do love it. You should be sad.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Oh, I feel so sorry.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
It's one of your songs that I have many many
times too many to count have cried in the car too,
and I just, oh, well, it's kind of you know,
it's a breakup song looking back and whatever it is. Yeah,
I know, because it is quite full on. There's and
full on themes in that too. And I wondered, are
the songs by other artists that you've had a tier

(02:48):
two in the car or songs that you know that
are going to evoke particular emotion when you're driving down
the freeway.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Yeah, there's quite a few. Yeah, I think that. Uh,
you know, there's some obvious ones, you know, like I
feel like Tailored always gets me going. Taylor's got a
hundred songs that make me feel that way. And then honestly,
some kind of like Elliott Smith always makes me cry
like some of seas. Oh yeah, you know that's quite emotional.

(03:16):
I think it's called does it Breathed Me? Is that? What? It's?
That one? If I ever have to do like a
like an audition or a music video or something where
I need to cry, I just put that on the
headphones and I'm like, it's.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
Interesting, that's what you sort of take out of Holsey's music. Okay,
because the line I like is when I die, I
won't have time to spend all my money. So that's
inspired me to, like Lisa keeps saying, my wife keeps saying,
where's all the cash gone? And I think now is
the time to spend it. So I went and invested
in a race horse and bought a new boat and

(03:49):
stuff like that, so we don't have any cash left.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
To make amazing life decisions.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
Yeah, I'm connecting with Holsey on a much deeper level,
whereas you're far more superficial. And that's what's great about her.
She appeals to the masses.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
It inspired me to go and buy ridiculous things.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
I love that, you know.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
It's so funny that lyric is like a little on
the nose for me. I feel like I'm usually like
I'm either like quite metaphorical or I'm quite sharp with
the knife, and that lyric, I think was like it's
definitely just like a life's too short kind of thing,
you know. I was kind of just looking around, thinking
like I should make sure I'm making memories, you know,
And I.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Think everybody and I hate to bring up the pandemic,
but I feel like everybody since then has realized the
value I mean, when I consider an investment now, an
investment for me is investing in a holiday with the family.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
You're such a good guy.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
Is he fooling himself?

Speaker 2 (04:48):
After you called him superficial?

Speaker 4 (04:49):
He was like, she's trying to shut me down. I am.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
I know what I want to ask Halsey about is
of course your brand new single Lucky, which is we
are loving it. But it's also the clip that's incredible,
and I think that just now we've heard you like
kind of reflect on life and look back and think
about where you've come from, and I feel like there's
so much of that within the clip, But there's an
underlying feeling of sadness I felt too that I got

(05:17):
from that all the fact that not everyone knows the
real story all of the time.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
You know, I think that I think that I really
just wanted to be heard, and I just really wanted
to be acknowledged. You know. I grew up in a
household where both of my parents worked like three jobs
each and we moved a lot. They were really young
when they had me, and I was the oldest kid,
and they were just so busy, and I just I

(05:44):
felt alone a lot. I felt lonely, a lot, and
music was kind of there for me when I didn't
feel like I was being heard or I was being understood.
I wrote a lot when I was younger, like poetry
and stories and that kind of thing, and I wouldwys
bring them home and I would hand them to my
to her parents. You know, there's six stacks of paper,
and can you read what I wrote? Like I got
an A plus in school And they would pick it

(06:06):
up and they'd look at it and they'd go, you know, yeah,
it's great. Did you really read it? Did you read it?
And then one day I figured out if I sang it,
they had to hear it.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
Interesting they had.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
Yeah, they were. They were no longer just looking at
the page.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
Yeah, I should sing to my wife, I think, is
what you're saying, because no.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
You should try it. You should be like, you should
be like, can we go out for dinner?

Speaker 3 (06:30):
Feeler?

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (06:32):
Also, no, We've love chatting to you today, And next
time I'm crying in the car holes the singing, you
should be sad. I will be thinking of you and
loving that you spoke the words I was feeling.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
Thank you so much, Thank you so much for your time.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Thank you guys so much and thanks for supporting the record.
I can't wait to be down there.

Speaker 3 (06:49):

Speaker 2 (06:51):

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Thanks.
