Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the fits In and with Her with Kate
Richie podcast Very special moment. We snagged an exclusive interview
with this girl.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Zero and takes a little prans everybody.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Hell to Isla.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Fisher, She's such a nightmare.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
I told you I didn't want to do this interview.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
My god, I can't even get through on the line.
I give her a number. I mean, it's so hard.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
By the way, my daughter's like, are you talking a maze?
Speaker 4 (00:36):
Mom?
Speaker 2 (00:36):
We were just texting.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
I was like, what May May is texting your house
at the moment?
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Texting? She's not Lula? Was it last night?
Speaker 3 (00:47):
She's not meant to be on her iPad?
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Oh? Here we go?
Speaker 3 (00:51):
And do you know what's even better with that.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
Isla, is that your daughter refers to her as May's
mum and not Kate.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
That's even nice as Yeah, where are you? Where are
you in the world?
Speaker 2 (01:04):
I'm I'm in London. I'm in London.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
London.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
A magic movie coming out, So that could be.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
An illusion or a magician or an illusionist.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
I really hope.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
I know this is very early on the promotion trail
for the new movie, so I hope that that's a
trial run on that joke and don't do it with
anyone else.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
In back inland?
Speaker 5 (01:31):
What was you what was your impressions of what were
your impressions of illusionists and magicians before you actually you
did any of these movies?
Speaker 4 (01:43):
Isla.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
I mean I was always kind of except my dad
really along with you, but he was always he should
be a magician. He was obsessed. But I was a
very small hand and I could never really do the
slide of hands stuff high quite you know, cars and stuff.
So I did have a little magic as a kid,
but never quite pog it up. But Henry, of course
(02:05):
is an escapeologist, and my stunts involved like water and
breaking out of things, and it's kind of like stuff
that I can do. At least my sun double can
Tom Cruise.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
She's just cracking.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Good one.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
That's a ten out of ten, the Tom Cruise one.
You can stick with that gag. I like that.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
You know, Well, do you do the tricks and the
stunts and the like? I mean, I don't know if
you're allowed to tell us that.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Yeah, So yeah, I actually I am actually not that
far behind on the press store. I've already done like
sick choutlets just today, and I've been told what I
can and cannot say, and I can reveal that the
magic that we make in this movie is all us
and real, because I know number two. I think they
did a bit of the CGI stuff or a trick,
(03:02):
you know, a bit of camera work. But we really
we pride ourselves. All of us worked super hard. We
got some young magicians on the on the show and
they're great too, and we had a fantastic team helping us.
And we were sort of you know in Prague and
Nabi Daby, and we all worked really hard. We kind
of each get between one and three really good stuntage.
(03:23):
But one of our like amazing magic scenes is shot
in one take and it's about an eight minute scene
and we all have to do several tricks and it
was quite scful. Obviously, you don't want to be the
person that balls it up. And my luckily my trick
was like early on, but then I had like the
last trick before Morgan Freeman. I was so nervous, but anyway,
(03:45):
we did it. We got it. We got several takes
and it's partly in the movie, so can't wait.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
To see it.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
But did you nearly drowned in a pirana take in
the first movie you are.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Yeah, well it's it's not actually true. I think that
was the end of like a four day press junket
where I'd done so many interviews and I was just
getting more and using one more hyperbole and died in
the junk And I don't know how that got. It
just ran away with me, that story, but I was
I did get my I did have my handcuffs, like
kind of they got stuck and meat the bars at
(04:17):
the bottom of the tank. But our wonderful producer Bobby
Cohen had built this like switch where in the event
I was trapped at the entire tank could drain I
think in like fifteen seconds or something, so I was
never gonna actually perish, much to everyone's disappointment. I was no,
I'm moded out. And they were kind of magnetic, so
(04:38):
I could kind of, I guess, snap them. But yeah,
that was fun. They were not real piranhas. They actually
brought the paranas in and it was like that embarrassing
moment and it was only fish. But I felt sorry
fun because I've been as an acting you know, you
just get rejected so much like they looked at these
sorry fish and they're like, Nah, they just don't look scary.
They come all the way from like some biodiverse place
in the Amazon and like like cracked, you know, and
(05:02):
then they were just like they just went up to
scratch everyone. Like they looked like tadpoles.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
Like you could relate to the fish. Is that what
you're saying? You could relate to the sad eyes of.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
What they feel like, you know, when they want a
piranha but they get a tadpole. That's how I feel.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
That's all they could afford. That's all they could afford. Sorry,
too high, We'll get.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
All of this. Can We just asked to off the
film and onto another topic which is close to your
heart with Kate, But did you have a chance to
recognize Lynn mcgrange's departure from the show. Do you get
onto Lynn at all to say? Great last episode?
Speaker 3 (05:45):
No?
Speaker 1 (05:45):
You know what?
Speaker 2 (05:46):
I didn't know?
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Wait?
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Maybe did I I forgot? When did she go?
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Irene? It's Irene?
Speaker 2 (05:54):
I'm just green, I Rene, I love Let me come on?
Speaker 1 (05:59):
Didn't Linn moved to a marijuana plantation somewhere nearby, and babe, but.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
She's happy she hasn't She's on the road doing theater.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Sorry, I forgot my haven't written the bosthseller.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
No, no, oh, she did write a book though she did.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
She wrote a memoir.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Kate, we loved her.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
No, she was really funny.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
She was like such a positive, like a brilliant person.
She's like always uncertain and happy, and you've been.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Very fake, not not like some of the others.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Well, we knew who was going to come on.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
There was a couple of real.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Oh was there a real Was there one stinker in
particular that you used to set up and I don't
want to see that to it again? Who is that?
Speaker 2 (06:45):
It was just like that feeling. There was a couple
of people that did the show that I think just didn't.
I don't know, Like Kate and I were always like
gigglers and like happy. Lynn was really happy, like everyone
was sort of.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
I'm not convinced you know who Linn the grangery because
you're speaking.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
You've got blue eyes, she's tall and her short hair.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
Well she did for a long time maybe in your era. No, no, no,
we do, we do.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Lovely.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
She was Curtis's didn't she live with Curtis?
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Yes, yes, she.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
Had she had the charger.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
She did have the yeah, she was. She was.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
She took Selena into the.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Yet and Selena had those cuts in her tides of
the genes, and Irene was serious and they get out
of the party. Remember, and you and I are in
that scene. There's quite a stand off.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
That is a great memory. I don't I don't remember that.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
I mean, I've gone on to greater heights, of course,
unlike you.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
Nothing, because it was you.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
It was you mean timpany. And we used to always
have such a laugh. Remember we get the giggle.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
And we used to call Selena a bit of a
rude word because she she had a reputation, not that
we should speak this way because it's twenty twenty five,
but she had a reputation of having lots of boyfriends,
although she didn't have lots of boyfriends, and she was
very sad inside.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
I think she just had a black eyeliner and that
was enough of a crime.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
That labeled her for the rest of her life.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
That is correct.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
Do you know what I feel really bad about? Can
you stop pressing the buttons on your phone? It's really annoying.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
What I feel bad about.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
I don't have to say I really like you or
I feel like I know things about you, and maybe
I know things about you that we can't talk about
on the radio. But I've just realized this morning a
couple of things when I read your bio.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
I mean not only, not only.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
And you should remember this because I know we can
all get a bit down. In ninety seven, you were
number thirty five on the list for one hundred sexiest
Women in the world.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
And only oh, two thousand and three. I thought it
said twenty twenty three.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Oh then.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
Oh well, hang on the then you placed twenty six lost,
so it feels as though you were climbing up the list.
I was always very jealous of Isla because she got
to be on the cover of FHM. Remember that old
magazine FAJM.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
I don't know if that was the high point. I
feel like that was one of those things that it
was like you didn't really have a choice back. And
I don't remember ever feeling like I could weigh in
on anything until I got into my thirties. As a
woman in this business. It was like, oh, they want you, yay,
and you sort of went with the flow. And now
I'm like, oh, hang on, I've got some amazency. I
actually don't have to do something if I don't want
(09:50):
to do now you know, it feels really good.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
Yeah, that's a crazy idea.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Was weird? I did FML.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
I've been on the FML many your time.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Eila doesn't know what that means either.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
The other thing I didn't realize, And I wish I
wish i'd known this because my daughter will be even
more impressed, because she happens to think you're a bit
of all right. In fact, we had a conversation about
god parents the other day and I said she didn't
have any, and she chose you.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
That's beautiful, not you whipper.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
Oh sorry, Yes, I would be honored. I would be
absolutely honest.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
I'm not asking you.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
I'm not asking you. I should have known this, but
you've worked with Daniel Radcliffe. I don't feel as though
there are many things that you could do that would
impress me even more. But the fact that you've worked
with Harry Potter. I'm gonna have to go home and
(10:55):
godmother as well.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Yeah I was his nanny.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
Is it's a great franchise.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Islight Now you see me?
Speaker 3 (11:05):
Now you don't.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
It's in theaters November fourteen.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
Make sure you get up. We have got her first
before she starts.
Speaker 5 (11:11):
The junket and promotes this movie.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
My boys absolutely adore these movies. They've been amazing.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
So congratulations Eila, and thanks for coming on the show.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
Thanks guys, it's so nice to speak to Kim Weppering. Kate,
I love you in the same.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Touch and Ida just quickly my five year old Francesca.
She doesn't have a godmother either. We were talking about
that last night.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
She said, she got you.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
