Oh that was that was exciting. Horn Hong Kong.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
There by Optimus Prime coming past the locker room here signaling.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
The hour of Power.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
That's right, it's the Power Hour here inside the locker room.
And of course we're taking your calls and Steeler's victorious
in their campaign down to the More of Balty aka
Baltimore t Bank Stadium, home of the rat Birds or

(01:04):
the fighting egg Plants. You know that's the color of
their jerseys. Man, you gotta love when you win wherever
we weekend because the bragging rights are just immense. And
then when you throw bragging rights on top of being
in first place of your division, it makes it doubly sweet.

(01:25):
And that's why victory Donut Monday today is just that
much sweeter. That's why Rob will have a jelly, I
will have a bacon maple long.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
John.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
You know what justin what what what? What is? What
is your donut? I just realized we did that. We
never asked justin.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Ic with sprinkles. Okay, all right, you.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
Know, hum mature, hum mature, hum mature.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Yeah, he will, he will, he will understand the virtues
of an old fashion.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
Oh you know what, man. So there's it. There's a
really good point. Okay, we're gonna get to the phone
calls in a moment, but this is an important conversation.
There's a really good point because I remember when I
was a kid, I'm like, what is with the old
fashioned donut? Seriously, it doesn't if there's you know, it
is that and and you know what it's. It's it's
an old man donut. And I'm and I'm the shoe fits.

(02:26):
The shoe fits right now for me. You know, Like
there are some things like, uh like I'm a I'm
a bathrobe wearer, right, Okay, so I like a bathrobe.
But I've always won a bathroom. People associate that with
an old guy, right, I've always want a bad I
wore a bathroom when I was a young guy. I
like a bathrobe. The old fashioned donut I didn't like
when I was a young guy. But now I appreciate

(02:47):
the simplicity of a good a good old fashion, it's
got to be good. But I appreciate an old fashioned donut.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Yeah, no, I'm with you too. But see, I've always been.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
One of those guys that I've I've enjoyed an old
fashion because I understand the necessity of it.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Sometimes you don't need that sweet, you know, Sometimes.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
You just I want, I want, I want the action
of eating a donut.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
That is sometimes yes, sometimes just that's enough.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
That Sometimes that's enough because I because I've gone the
super sweet route, right, I've gone to.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
And there's nothing wrong with nothing wrong with that, nothing
wrong with that.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Nothing wrong with that.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
But but every once in a while, you just sometimes
you just want it simple. And that's what the old fashion.
It presents an option for you. And I think that's
what kind of is one of the fun parts about donuts, right,
I mean, you could truly find something that fits your personality.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
Yes, I agree. And also I just wanted to point
this out because it's an old world I think, probably
more UK than anything else. But are youamiliar with mince
meat pie?

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (04:02):
Okay, So I wanted to say when I was a kid,
I hated mince meat pie. Now that I've grown older,
right now that I've grown older, I still hate mince
meat pie. I just wanted to point that out. Still
my palate is not my palate is not emerged enough
to enjoy that something.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Heyver and onions, liver and onions.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
Give me the onions. You can have the liver. The
liver is all yours.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
Yeah no, I don't even you know, listen, the onions
have to be done right, because they mean liver and onions.
They're not really even that tasty either, because they're sitting
there that liver gravy.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
My mother grew up my mother's father was a butcher
and so and they, you know, they she grew up
in the depression, and they ate liver, brains, tongue, uh
which which many people considered delicacy. And I don't.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
So there you have it.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
Anyway, uh so exactly So creem a vanilla covered doughnut
for justin.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Yeah, cream all right, with sprinkles with sprinkles, with sprinkle
with sprinkles.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Remember you can't get it just vanilla cream.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Gotta add the sprinkles, Gotta add the Jimmy's okay.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
So let's are you ready for phone calls?

Speaker 2 (05:13):
I'm ready for phone calls. Let's get it.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Let us start with wine in South Carolina wine. We
know we kept down hold for a long time. I'm
sorry about that. Thank you for being with us inside
the locker room.

Speaker 5 (05:25):
Good morning, guys. How y'all doing?

Speaker 4 (05:27):
Good morning.

Speaker 5 (05:28):
We're good and it is going to feel good to
finally get to eat it doing it. I was holding back.
I was about yeah, I was going to Hey, I
was going to withdraw like our guy wolves man, and
you've been doing it so on a wolf today. I'm
going to get me a whole dozen today.

Speaker 4 (05:46):
And next next thing. You know, all that work you
spent stretching out that stomach and Thanksgiving goes for naught, right,
you want to keep that thing stretched out through the holidays.
So good job, good job out.

Speaker 5 (06:01):
Yeah. So you guys, hey, I don't hear anybody calling
for Tom to be fire? Now, did you guys heard
that last night?

Speaker 4 (06:08):
I didn't hear that chant. Yeah, I didn't hear that
chance and microphone.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
It fell out of our window, that fell into the crowd,
so it still didn't hear it, still didn't hear it.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
So yes, you're right, very quiet.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
It was a good game yesterday, and you guys are
already mentioned some of the points I was going to
mention to you guys. There was three key players of
the game yesterday, the one with Rogers where he touched
the ground when he catches old pans.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yes, they they played with.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
The end zone like the end zone.

Speaker 5 (06:44):
Yet I was a key plick a. I know everyone
said it was a touchdown. He how many times had
the Steeler had gotten gotten?

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Jesse James, James the ghost came back?

Speaker 5 (06:55):
Yeah, Jesse James. I can go back to in Green
beeble make a block field goal down in New Orleans
and past interference, we can go on and on. So hey,
we finally got a call out way, so hey, we
can't control that. And then he like you guys say,
Pierre has been balling, echoes have been balling. And then

(07:16):
on the fourth down play, did you guy notice we
had Cam as a spot? Did you see that?

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (07:23):
I did, I did, I didn't. Cam was playing in
the middle, which was which was perfect.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (07:29):
So, like you guys said, we control out on deathly
that big.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
We gotta baby.

Speaker 5 (07:35):
Were gonna have another big game on Monday night with
Miami because they still winning the games.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
So he.

Speaker 5 (07:41):
We just take it one time, one game at a time.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
We got this.

Speaker 5 (07:44):
I'm loving it now we beat those rat birds. That
was a good thing.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
It is, yes, one, thank you, it is. It's a
good thing.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
People don't want to acknowledge that. They don't want to
acknowledge that they did something good. Everybody loves showing their
face and showing their other body parts when things go wrong, right,
But it's funny when things go right. It's amazing how
everybody has backled that bandwagon, you know, And I think

(08:18):
that's you know, and I'm not sitting here calling people
out right, I'm just saying that this is This is
the ebbs and flows of football. This is ebbs and
flow of team sports. Is the ebbs and flows of life. Right,
You're gonna have good days, You're gonna have bad days.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
And you know, we.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
Operate in an industry where the shock value gets the attention.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
Right Rob.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
You know, it's and and everybody loves to pour it
on when you're doing bad, but nobody wants to really
do the acknowledgment of when it's good because good does
it get headlines? Good does it create debate good does
it spark emotional fire? And I'm I'm happy we don't

(09:14):
have that this week because we had it last week
and we've had it.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
We've had a number of times. We've had it six
times this week, you know, this season. I'm done with it.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
For right now. I'm happy to go with silence. I'm
happy to go with covered up body parts that they're
not showing off for the world.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
Right.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
I'm happy for that because that means you're doing something good.
You know, we always talked about you know, I you know,
good goes under the radar and good news and bad
news travels way faster than the good news, right, And
I'm happy that. I'm happy that we're on a snail
pace for the good news. But we're not We're not going.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
To slow down.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
We are going full board ahead for this success because
once again, lead the division is the most important headline
that I want everybody to know. Who is leading the
division on Monday? Who is in the number four seat
for the playoffs? Is it stays right now? Us US Pittsburgh,

(10:15):
Pittsburgh Steelers number four seed?

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Where are the Baltimore Ravens in the hunt? In the hunt?

Speaker 3 (10:22):
There and there's this a little off category. It's kind
of like it's kind of like the specials menu, you
know that you may or may not get at a restaurant.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
When you sit down.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
Sometimes they come and orderly tell you, oh yeah, by
the way, this is not on the menu.

Speaker 4 (10:34):
We're on the menu. We're there. Give me a number
four one. Thanks for the call, my friend. Enjoy those doughnuts.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
Hey, thanks, I appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
But all right, take care. Uh, let us go back
to the phone lines and let's go to Circus George
in Sarasota. Hope the weather's nice down there. Circus George. Hope,
hope you're doing what you know.

Speaker 6 (10:56):
I'm going to brag about the weather.

Speaker 7 (10:57):
Gentlemen, it's partly sonny today. You would call it sonny
total in Pittsburgh. This is a part of sunny days.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
You know. Let me say this. We don't I don't
have to slat. I don't have to go through the
monotony of slathering on sunscreen today, Circus George.

Speaker 7 (11:15):
And I'm so thankful for that's not unfortunate.

Speaker 6 (11:21):
Of being a Steeler fan and carrying those six trophies.
It's not for everybody. It's certainly not for Cleveland.

Speaker 4 (11:27):
Oh what a lovely segue circus, George. That was wonderful.
We're giving that's a segue today right there there, George.

Speaker 7 (11:38):
Max, I need I need you to have some kind
of symposium on what is passing appearance and what is
holding offensive holding defensive passing efference.

Speaker 6 (11:48):
I don't know anymore.

Speaker 7 (11:49):
You know, the Ringers fans can complain all they want,
but I saw mugging on the offensive line by them,
and mugging by the defensive secondary against our receivers and
nothing being called. I'm like, you know what, Joey Porter
sneeze is the guy that goes a flag. Their guy
mugs O guy. It's not a black helmet. It's good.
It's good defense. So I don't know to speak any

(12:11):
more about appreciating. But we came out on top. Even
I had trembling thoughts in the beginning of the game.
I said, we're gonna after last week, how we're gonna
call out this one balmost and studied that game plan
and they're gonna run right donald throw its.

Speaker 6 (12:24):
Well, they didn't. They got some yards when they needed it,
they couldn't get it. It's as simple as that. When
they needed it.

Speaker 7 (12:31):
Dave fell short and thank God for that. You know
what the Raptors saying. By the way, my first home
was in Baltimore, so what couldn't care less that's a
former home.

Speaker 6 (12:44):
Yeah, I'm a Sarasota boy who loves his Steelers. It's
as simple as that. But I got a love I
gotta love a little little bit on Aaron Rodgers. He
was spot on yesterday. There was no miscommunications. There are
great growth, great catches.

Speaker 7 (12:57):
I love the fact that Eccles and Pierre or dialed
in on defense. Who could have seen that coming? I
mean really, and.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
Yeah, I.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
Agree with the circuit. Those are if I had two
big takeaways from the game, and and and reason for
optimism down the stretch and hopefully heading into the playoffs
and hopefully doing some damage in the playoffs. You just
mentioned why. Those two guys have come in and done
a great job in the secondary. And Aaron Rodgers, as
he has many times this season, has looked great. I

(13:28):
don't think Aaron Rodgers looked good yesterday. I think Aaron
Rodgers looked great yesterday. I mean that that's a guy
that's going to win me a playoff game playing like
that at least one.

Speaker 6 (13:37):
I think so.

Speaker 7 (13:38):
I think so, depending on who I mean. If the
playoff start today, we got Buffalo. I don't like that mashup.
I'd rather get the Colts, im possible, But I don't know.
I mean that means we probably have to root for
the Pats, which is discaseful to be Buffalo.

Speaker 6 (13:52):
I mean that may turn my stomach. That's kind of
almost like.

Speaker 4 (13:59):
You know what, you know what I mean, you feel better,
you know, stop your stomach turned. Getting some vitamin D.
That'll stop here. Just kind of step out.

Speaker 7 (14:06):
Right here in the cab, in my truck, in my bus,
and by the way, so I don't have the Monday
morning doing up for me.

Speaker 6 (14:12):
It's old fashioned apple stood like my mother's.

Speaker 4 (14:15):
Oh that's good stuff, man, come on.

Speaker 6 (14:18):
Make it, Oh, I make it just like my mom's.

Speaker 4 (14:21):
Really, comes on here.

Speaker 6 (14:24):
To Sarasota, look me up, and I'll have you all
for some school.

Speaker 4 (14:27):
I will, I will do that. I like Sarasota. I
think Sarasota is a wonderful place. I know it's growing
really really fast. How long have you been down there? Crazy?
How long have you been down there?

Speaker 6 (14:37):
We moved here in nineteen sixty nine.

Speaker 4 (14:38):
Oh, my god. So so you've seen the you scene.
Oh yeah, the drastic changes and can you still get
around it? Have they dealt with it? Okay?

Speaker 6 (14:46):
Down there it's congestion. Okay, it's congested, especially this time
of year. But you know, they're widening the interstate and
that should help a little.

Speaker 7 (14:53):
I think it's gonna take it like four years, so
it'll be hell before that. But there's just there's developments
popping up like Mushman's after a good rain in account posture.

Speaker 4 (15:02):
Yeah, and I love that, by the way. I love it.
I love that airport. You walk out and you're like
twelve feet from your car wherever you parked it. Oh,
I love that, man.

Speaker 6 (15:10):
Yeah, yeah, it is easy. What was I gonna say now?
The I lived here thirty years till I met a
ghoul in Pittsburgh and married her.

Speaker 7 (15:18):
And then you know, who knew that a steel fan
in Sarasota would find a Pittsburgh girl and live in.

Speaker 6 (15:23):
Pittsburgh for thirteen years, But that's what happened.

Speaker 7 (15:25):
It took thirteen years to get her to move to Sarasota,
back to my hometown, but she's here.

Speaker 6 (15:31):
I took her with me. It's it's the bed part
of Pittsburgh with me.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
Hey, that's a good woman. That's a good woman that
held out and made you stay here for thirteen years.
That's a good woman to me. What can I say?

Speaker 3 (15:41):
Yea anyway, And here's the thing, George, what's her desire
level to move back to Pittsburgh as it stands right now?

Speaker 6 (15:48):
After our daughter had a grandson? It was very high?

Speaker 7 (15:50):
And said nope. I said, you can give her your
fire knom. You can go down any time you want.
I'm still working. I am getting to moving and remodeling houses.
Say get at it because they're not going to be
the way you like them. I'm getting old for that.
Oh by the way, here's here's a note to the
somewhat somewhat dunking Steeler.

Speaker 6 (16:10):
Fans about Tomlin.

Speaker 7 (16:12):
Did Bill Power forget how to coach when he had
a bunch of losing seasons non playoff seasons? Did Chuck
no forget how to coach? Or was it the players
just not making plays? Was it guys that were old
and over the hill that weren't making plays? And you guys,
they weren't cutting the mustard? Which is it? I mean,
I think coaches get too much praise and too much blame.

(16:33):
It's the players, guys. The players have to make the plays.
The coaches give them the ideas on what to do.
The play calling, if you will.

Speaker 6 (16:41):
But you still got to beat your guy.

Speaker 7 (16:43):
You still have to get open. You still have to
beat the defense or offensive lineman. You still got to
read the coverage and put the.

Speaker 6 (16:49):
Ball on the money.

Speaker 7 (16:51):
That's not a coach, that's players. Our players did it yesterday.
And you know, they can say what they want about
Mike Tomlin, but they need a sober up first. Put
down at IRN City, get some coffee, get a piece
of foodle while you're at it.

Speaker 4 (17:04):
Good man, George, thank you very much, my friend.

Speaker 6 (17:07):
Good talking to you.

Speaker 4 (17:08):
Same to you. Thank you very much. We're going to
continue to take your phone calls four one two nine
one nine one three one six when we continue in
the Locker Room presented by our neighborhood Ford Store and
the Students Pro Shop on Citizen Nation Radio, part of
the steel There's Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
This is in the Locker Room with Kingyon Stars on
Steelers Nation Radio presented by your neighborhood Ford Store. The
F one fifty is the official truck of the Pittsburgh
Steelers and by Steelers Pro Shop. Get it direct from
the team at the Steelers Pro Shop at shop dot
Steelers dot com.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
Justin Miller and I debating the merits or lack of
merits in the college football playoff system, which we don't
want to get into because this is a Steelers show.
By the way, we had that Jail and Warren touchdown.
That was a shoe. That's drive of the game, presented
by our neighborhood Fortune. The F one fifty is the
official truck of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Let's get back to

(18:12):
the phone lines and let's go to Nathaniel in La Nathaniel,
thanks for being with us in the locker room.

Speaker 6 (18:18):
Good morning, Good morning.

Speaker 8 (18:23):
I just want to you know, I haven't been able
to well I haven't called in. I have called in,
but I haven't been able to get through since last year.
So I just want to you know, the last time
I talked to maxim and a Wolf was like last year.
So just wanted to give a shout out to Wolf

(18:45):
because I know, you know, he would be having like
three or four or more donuts he would, you know,
on on Monday. Yes, so you know I really missed
the guy.

Speaker 4 (18:58):
He was the best thank you I had.

Speaker 8 (19:02):
I had, you know, would listen to you you know
you guys when I was working. I recently retired, so
I don't get to the h you know, to listen
as as often as I you know, as I did.
But I was at the game in l A, the
Charger game, and you know we we out numbered the

(19:24):
Charger fans like ten to one, and uh, of course,
you know it was disappointing, but this is sweet, you know,
always beating the rat birds. You know, you know this
is this is sweet. But and I would just want
to say about coaching, this was a brilliant move by
the coaches to put those veteran receivers in there because

(19:46):
they know how to run routes to get open to
help your quarterback when things get in the pinch. So
they weren't able to just load up, you know, uh
on number four. They just weren't able to do that,
and that opened it up for everybody, even Calvin Austin.
You know, he had a he had a very nice

(20:08):
on down the sideline. You know, that's on the sideline
and everything, so d K you know, he he that's
that's what you brought him here for. That's why you
pay him the big bucks. But you got to give
him some help. And bringing in Adam Thielen and bringing
in Markuev Scandling. That was those veteran receivers. They just
know how they, you know, get the offense, you know,

(20:31):
one those routes, get the offense open. And it was
great things. So I'm happy today.

Speaker 4 (20:38):
I'm happy today.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know. Yeah.

Speaker 8 (20:44):
So that's just my take on everything. And like you know,
all those fires that you know, Tomlin, you know, you know,
just find something else to do. You know, we we
we have a good coach and we need to hang
on to him. That's all I got to say about that.
So you guys have a great day.

Speaker 4 (21:00):
You too.

Speaker 8 (21:01):
Well, you know, we'll get down in Miami and well
we're in Pittsburgh, but you know, you'll get the Dolphins
taken care of and keep this thing, keep this train rolling.

Speaker 4 (21:10):
Thank you for that wonderful call, Nathaniel. Appreciate it and
enjoy retirement.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
Man.

Speaker 4 (21:15):
Retirement is nice. We're happy for you. Uh yeah. Let's
go back to the phone lines and go to Dave
in Nashville. Dave, thanks for being with us in the
locker room.

Speaker 9 (21:26):
Good morning, gentlemen.

Speaker 5 (21:28):
How are you all today?

Speaker 4 (21:29):
Good morning, doing well? Hope you're doing well as well.

Speaker 9 (21:32):
I'm doing great because yesterday, you know what's being good
about the game? That was missing Wil's too like your
previous time. So I decided I'm gonna have lazagna during
the game.

Speaker 4 (21:45):
Nice. There we go.

Speaker 6 (21:47):
And it seems like.

Speaker 9 (21:48):
The more Lasagna I ate, the better the Steelers got.
I'm sticking with that for the rest of the year.

Speaker 4 (21:58):
Yeah. I think that's a good call. You got to
know what, man, that's that's that is Dave doing his part.
That's you doing your part, Dave.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (22:07):
And I thought Aaron played great.

Speaker 9 (22:09):
And I also loved his comment to the media after
the game during his press conference.

Speaker 6 (22:16):
You guys, remember what he said.

Speaker 4 (22:18):
I have not seen it yet. I will be watching
all those things this afternoon. What did he have to say?

Speaker 9 (22:24):
Well, the reporter asked him, you know, the light of
how bad everything was last week, you know, what do
you think about this week?

Speaker 4 (22:32):
And he said, I think you are going to just shut.

Speaker 9 (22:33):
The hell up for a week.

Speaker 4 (22:35):
Is that what he said? Really, that's what he said?

Speaker 3 (22:40):
Yeah, I love it.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
I love it.

Speaker 4 (22:42):
Wow. Have a great day.

Speaker 6 (22:44):
On to the fish.

Speaker 4 (22:46):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (22:46):
Here we go.

Speaker 4 (22:47):
Appreciate it man, Thank you very much. David Nashville, short, sweet,
to the point, good stuff. Let's keep rolling. Let's go
to Devn in Denver. Devon, thanks for being with us
in the locker room. Hey afternoon, gentlemen, good afternoon.

Speaker 6 (23:02):
Good first and foremost.

Speaker 10 (23:06):
After this wing, because I already knew were gonna win.
I'm looking at the injury report and I'm seeing a Chane.

Speaker 4 (23:14):
Uh oh oh no, we lost him. Oh h hn
left the game, by the way with an injury. I
don't know what his I don't know how significant it is.
He is a he is a terrific runner, juggernaut. Is
he Is he back on? Do we have him back on?
Let's see it? Yeah, yeah, let's Devin. Are you there now?

(23:34):
We've lost you from here?

Speaker 6 (23:35):
Now?

Speaker 4 (23:35):
Okay, what's up?

Speaker 10 (23:36):
Okay, okay, yeah. Keith Miller is always doing Heith Miller,
I mean sorry, Pat fire Mouth is always doing pat
mynemooth things. On our touchdown to the running back, he's
wide open. Please let him be our first Mount Washington.
He was not Washington before Mount Washington. That's the only
complaint I have about the game is that I don't
know how he Pat Firemoth is on a milk milk

(23:58):
carton when he's there every game. He's not hurt, there's
nothing wrong with him. He is our he should be
our number two options. And I just that's the only
player I have. Rowan to Pat fire Mouth. He's always open,
he's always making plays. That's the only player I have.
We got to watch out for a tape of this game,
but I know it's.

Speaker 4 (24:22):
Thank you, Devin. Two receptions nine yards for Pat Fryarmouth,
by the way, yesterday, and you know, it was one
of those things that a lot of people talked about.
You know, I really thought, based on his eighty eight receptions,
it was going to go Metcalf and then probably Johnna
with Pat Fryarmouth kind of right right on his shoulder
there doing his usual sixty reception kind of season. He's

(24:43):
not on that pace. I don't know why that's the case,
but I do know this, Max. You know, we talk
and the Steelers talk and other people talk about December football.
We're in December. We talked about this last week. There
have been elements on this team. This is a team
that was six and six. You own your record. It's

(25:05):
been a very strange six and six. It's not like, well,
they got one outlier here or one thing that's dragging
them down there. But they're kind of an average team
across the board. It's not that they're an average team
across the board either. It has been these wild, wild
fluctuations in numbers. You know, the only one of two teams,

(25:26):
you're just one number, only one of two teams that
had more than thirty sacks and more than twenty takeaways.
The other team is the Rams, who are giving up
seventeen and a half points a game, the number two
ranked defense in the NFL. But you're the Steers and
you're you're not performing well on third down and Mike
Tomlin calls the weighty downs. So you're at the bottom
of the league in that category, and the bottom of
the league and other category. It just these wild fluctuations

(25:50):
don't seem to make that much sense to me. But
if you can keep the positives and eliminate the negatives
and latch on to the affirmatives and don't mess around
with mister in between. I really didn't know I was
going there, Max, But since I was going with accentually
to positive. I figured out, I figured I might as

(26:11):
well don't run through the whole lyrics. But you know
what I'm saying, Like, the positives are there. The positives
are there if you can keep those positives positive and
work to minimize the third quarter issues that are baffling.
This has never been the case with this team where
you come out in the third quarter and don't put
something together. They were averaging two point eight points in

(26:33):
third quarters, one of the worst in the league. I
don't know why that is, but it's December football. You
won the game. The passing game came back to life.
Maybe the defense did its job in particularly in the
first half. You came up with the sacks you needed.
You won the turnover battle. Maybe next week we add
a little bit more and see you a little bit

(26:54):
more at it and a little bit more ad it.
And then again, I look around the AFC. Okay, Houston
looks really good, and we'll have our AFC recap coming
up in a little bit. Houston looks really good. I
know Denver's good, but I don't know, man. I mean,
get in there and be playing well. And we've talked
about this all year long. You're one of a number
of teams that can somehow find something, find some consistency,

(27:19):
and you could be the team that nobody wants to
play in the playoffs. And you have the opportunity to
do that. And maybe yesterday was the first step for
this years now, maybe it wasn't, but hey man, it's
Monday after you beat the Ravens. I'm going with maybe
it was.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Yeah. No, And I'm right there with you, And I
think that's that.

Speaker 3 (27:40):
That is I think the crux of the argument, right,
It's not about you know how it looks, you know, stout.
Like I said it yesterday, Stout points don't matter here.
Wins and losses due I don't care how you get
it done. Just get it done right. It's almost like
your mom yelling at you to clean your room.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
Right. She just wants to see it clean. She doesn't
care how you do it.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
If you have the stuff everything in the closet and
deal with it later, would she opens that door and
looks it.

Speaker 2 (28:12):
She just wants to see a clean room, right, right.
The same thing here, Just do the job.

Speaker 3 (28:18):
We don't We could we could argue the semantics and
everything else, and we can pontificate about it.

Speaker 2 (28:23):
But at the end of the day, as long as
it goes in the w column, I.

Speaker 3 (28:27):
Don't care how you get it there. I don't care
how ugly, how great. They were talking about, you know
yesterday the stats about you.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
Know, the Ravers are the holy teams. They had two
hundred yards rushing and lost again. Boo boo hoo, boohoo.

Speaker 3 (28:39):
You know, I was like, but what what happened the Steelers?
Even though gave they gave up the rushing yards. What
mattered most who scored more points? That's what matters. You
could run all you was. It's like when we see
It's like when we see akrosure field after the whip heels, right,
we look down on the field and hash mark to

(29:01):
hash mark twenty yard line to twenty yard line. Field
is chewed up. Guess what area is not really chewed up?
The end zones, right, it.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
Doesn't get a lot of work. That's the whole point
about it.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
You could chew up as much as you want in
the middle of the field that middle eighty or middle sixty.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
Have ad it, have ad it. But they kept them.

Speaker 3 (29:24):
Out and none bigger than those last two drives of
the game for the Ravens. Right, yep, our defense stood
up a fourth down turnover on downs that happens to us.
Guess what shoe has flipped to the other foot. Now
we got to see what another team feels like to
be stopped on a fourth down in positive territory.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
That was huge.

Speaker 3 (29:47):
And then of course gotta have it, Hail Mary, all the.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Pressure in the world. Oh they're gonna overcome this. This
is gonna be last second fourth quarter comeback. No fourth quarter.

Speaker 3 (30:00):
Dirt bag that was That was Lamar Jackson because fourth
fourth quarter gotta have it moment. He was in the dirt.
Thank you, Alex Heisman, thank you five to six a
guy who's also quietly been having a good year battling
through injuries, but also has been in the crosshairs of
a lot of a lot of of a lot of people.

(30:21):
And so for him to have that kind of vindication,
have that type of hero moment, man, it's just it's
just it's a sweet feeling. And I was so proud
and happy for Alex in that moment to have that play,
the grit, the determination JPJ.

Speaker 2 (30:36):
For as much as people wanted to.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
Talk crap about him, and oh he always gets a
holding call. And you know he doesn't know how to
play the cornerback position. Well, he knew how to play
the cornerback position on the Isaiah likely play ye, don't
give up, keep scrapping and fighting to the very last moment,
and good things happened. And had he not strained that

(30:59):
little bit extra, Isaiah likely gets that third foot down
and it counts as a touchdown and that it incompletion.

Speaker 4 (31:04):
By the way, for ye, yes, yeah, for Highsmith. By
the way, I just wanted to say this, Sorry, I
thought you were down here. For high Smith nine games,
six and a half, sacks, nine tackles for losses. He's
second on the team in sacks, tied for second with
her Big third in tackles for losses. But again he's
missed three games. Uh, he's been highly highly productive and
of course had the big game yesterday for the Suits.

(31:25):
Let's squeeze in one more call John and Michigan. Thanks
for being with us in the locker room today. John,
how guys doing this morning? Good?

Speaker 2 (31:33):
How are you doing good?

Speaker 7 (31:34):
I want to give us out to Mark Andrews, because
without him knocking that fourth down, ball four passed down,
the hop was wide open.

Speaker 4 (31:43):
Just got a three year contract extension this week too.

Speaker 7 (31:45):
Ah yeah, he fis, he fils too much to even
worry about him being a receiver.

Speaker 10 (31:52):
Yeah, do you guys, you guys probably don't just shot
in the dark.

Speaker 5 (31:55):
Do you guys have an update on DK metcalf by chance?

Speaker 4 (31:58):
No, do not. For those that don't know, DK stayed
behind issues with the stomach. Don't know what caused it,
don't know what the extent is. Evidently evaluated last night
in Baltimore, and don't know. I don't have any update
on it was supposed to come back to Pittsburgh, so
we don't and hopefully, you know, if we don't hear

(32:19):
anything else, if no more news comes out, then hopefully
we can find out you know, more tomorrow with Mike
Tomlin for sure. I mean, no news is good news, right, Yeah,
let's hope that's the case. Let's hope that is the case.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
Knock on what? Knock on what? Johnny?

Speaker 4 (32:37):

Speaker 2 (34:16):
Yeah, exactly, sorry about that.

Speaker 11 (34:18):
Go ahead, it's okay, Max Matthews, all right, Uh, just
bell lap in Jude jokes early lunch warning system.

Speaker 2 (34:32):
Make sure you go get so good?

Speaker 3 (34:34):
No, just joking, No, no, uh it's the bell lap
as we all know, early lunch warning system.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
Of course we talked about it.

Speaker 3 (34:40):
Hopefully you have You've already caffeinated and you have already
sugarized yourself with the victory. Don't at Monday. Now it's
time for lunchtime. But for me it's still morning time
where I'm at. So I'm gonna go and Joe a
bacon long jove ba.

Speaker 4 (34:54):
Do you you know? I feel like I I interrupted
the emogination? Uh? So can we can you introduce to
bell lap one more? One more time?

Speaker 2 (35:06):
I want to?

Speaker 4 (35:07):
I want to. I want the Max Stark's bell lapot.
I want the full thing, all right, justin and key
of B please, no, just joking?

Speaker 2 (35:17):
Oh right, is the bell lap.

Speaker 4 (35:23):
I feel much better I feel much much better.

Speaker 3 (35:26):
There we go, there we go, you know what you know,
and I feel better as well, Rob, So you know,
we we have accomplished. We've come full circle, and we
have gotten the bell lap fully executed in the last
segment of the show.

Speaker 4 (35:38):
So Max, I don't know if you had an opportunity
to see it. I think you were traveling last night,
so I'm gonna guess you probably did not, unless you're
at an airport. But the Texans defeating the Chiefs, that's
a big item. The Chiefs going down to defeat is
a big item. And the Texans continue to play this
brand of ball is a big item as well.

Speaker 3 (35:59):
And this brand of ball is a super duper gut
shot type of ball game that they're playing.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
And it is it is.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
I mean, their defense is lights out. They have a
lights out defense, and that defense has been playing at
a whole other level, you know, the entire year, but
now it's showing up in the in the wins and
lost category to go with just competent, decent offensive play.

(36:29):
And yeah, the Texas are a team to be reckoned
with right now. And they are pressing. You know, the
Colts go down, you know, once again.

Speaker 4 (36:37):
Yeah, we pointed this side Daniel Jones. Now the injury.
We pointed this out even before the injury, when they
were eight and two, you just had to look at
their schedule and say, uh, oh, your next three games
are the Chiefs and they blew a late lead. That
was a huge loss to them. I think if they
won that game, they'd have found a way to win
one more and probably get in the playoffs. I don't

(36:58):
know if they're gonna It's hard as it is to
say this eight and two and number one in the
power rankings or number two in the power ranks, wherever
they were, it's time. They might not make the playoffs. Max,
they might not. Their schedule was brutal, I mean as
hard as it could possibly be down the stretch, and
they've lost the first three games and they've lost their quarterback.

Speaker 3 (37:21):
Yeah, and now that you don't have Daniel Jones, and
you know you got to turn you got to turn
back to Anthony Richardson and see.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
What he has in him.

Speaker 8 (37:30):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (37:31):
This is yeah, not voting well for a team that
had a lot of hope. Uh for a majority of
this season. Right the first half of this season, I
mean everybody was high on the Colts and now now
things are starting to take a downward spiral for them,
and like you said, and the Texans are just texting,
they are just charging right along.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
And you know, right now.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
I think did they I think they moved officially and
did they know they still need one more victory to
move officially into this seventh seed right now?

Speaker 4 (38:01):
Yeah, they've won five in a row and they're one
game behind Jacksonville. They've got the tiebreakers, so they're ahead
of Indianapolis. Amazing, And you know, we talked about this,
what a weird year this has been when I think
it was the Lions were the first team in the
power rankings and the Texans were twentieth, and you know saying, look,

(38:22):
that wouldn't be a shocking Super Bowl matchup even then.
And of course they've gone on a roll since then,
and they they're I'm sure they're way up. We'll take
a look at the power rankings the next couple of
days as we usually do. They're way up beyond that
in the power rankings. But you know, this is a
Texans team in a very very strange NFL season, very

(38:44):
strange that you know, has a chance to go deep
into the playoffs. They're a very very good football team.
The Bengals. Meanwhile, huge loss for them in Buffalo in
a big win for the Bills. The Bills trying to
keep pace with the New England Patriots to one ten
in row who beat the Patriots earlier this year. Max,

(39:05):
Do you remember that team.

Speaker 3 (39:09):
I believe they came out of western Pennsylvania.

Speaker 4 (39:12):
I think you're right.

Speaker 2 (39:14):
Rings a bell, Yeah, it's near Upper Saint Clair.

Speaker 4 (39:17):
Rings, rings a bell, rings a bell, rings, it rings
its Pittsburgh.

Speaker 2 (39:23):
There, it is, there, it is.

Speaker 5 (39:25):
I got it.

Speaker 11 (39:26):
I got it, I got it.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (39:28):
A little bit we had it was a stray bell.
It was a stray bell. Yep. So that I mean
that is almost death knell for the Bengals. I'd like
them to not think it is. And I'd like to
see them at home defeat the Ravens. The sun is
still be very very nice, very very nice.

Speaker 2 (39:48):
You could kill two birds with one Bengal.

Speaker 4 (39:54):
I'll bet that's happened before the Bengal tiger. Yeah, I bet,
I bet a Bengal tiger has wiped out two birds
at once somewhere in the history of this planet.

Speaker 3 (40:02):
That definitely has definitely has I mean, granted probably was
a vulture or something something that didn't move as fast,
but right.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
That's right, you know, dodo bird, Yeah yeah, definitely albatross.

Speaker 4 (40:13):
Yeah right. So now before anybody says, well, the dodo
bird in the Bengal tiger did not actually share the
same Okay, anyway, our AFC this is our AFSE recap,
which is presented by UPMC, the official healthcare provider and
health plan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and would have been
maybe at one time for the Dodo bird being harassed

(40:33):
by the Bengal Tiger. So the Titans defeat the Browns
thirty one to twenty nine. Okay, fine, the Dolphins defeating
the Jets thirty four to ten. Man the Dolphins max
they are coming here at one time. Isn't it funny
how the schedule is going And it doesn't seem have
this Steeler's gotten anybody when they've just been really really

(40:57):
down and really really bad. Maybe the Browns, have they
gotten anybody that's just been playing their worst ball of
the season. They're kidding everybody. When they're playing their best
ball of the season. It seems like they're getting everybody
when they're playing their best ball the season.

Speaker 2 (41:11):
Except for the Seahawks, because Seahawks have not played bad
ball at all.

Speaker 4 (41:14):
This Oh yeah, we didn't know. We didn't know yet.

Speaker 2 (41:16):
We didn't. We didn't know the buzzsaw that was the
Seattle Seahawks. We didn't.

Speaker 3 (41:22):
We didn't expect that one. And that was a seventeenth
game type of deal that got. You know, they weren't
in a division that we were playing, They're not in
our conference, so that was that odd ball seventeenth game
added to the schedule.

Speaker 2 (41:35):
But yeah, no, you're right.

Speaker 3 (41:36):
I mean we have we have caught everybody at pretty
much full strength, you know, gliding in stride strength. I
was about say gliding, but in stride strength most of
the time we've played them.

Speaker 2 (41:52):
I guess, you know, but I think what does that
say about us?

Speaker 10 (41:55):
Right?

Speaker 3 (41:56):
Says that we are a team that matters to those teams.
Now we just need to matter ourselves playing against those teams.
But that's a whole other story. That's that sounds like
a couch session there. We're not going to get into
that on this show. But uh but yeah, no, I mean,
we we've literally faced everybody at their best, and you know,
it's no different coming up this week. And the Ravens,

(42:17):
I mean, you know, we knew what they were coming in, right,
slow first half team, but a strong second half team,
and we thwarted the second half strength.

Speaker 2 (42:27):
We thwarted that.

Speaker 3 (42:29):
So we were able to meet a team that was
doing something that they're really excel at and stopped them.
I think that was another takeaway from this game on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (42:39):
Well, if you're the and again, if you're the Dolphins, right,
what do you do when you're six and seven and
you first of all, they won four in a row, right,
so they're playing great football, including you know, beating the
Bills in that stretch. You know that that's what started
this stretch off. They lost to Baltimore, but they beat
the Bills. And you think about common opponents for the
Steelers with the Dolphins, because the Bills are the the
Ravens have already beaten. But they're thinking, look, if we

(43:01):
win this game, you know you got to get to
ten wins, right, you get to ten wins, you'll take
your chances. Okay, So now you're at Pittsburgh just taking
this from Miami's perspective. Okay, let's win that one. Let's
make it five in a row. We've got Cincinnati at home.
We should be able to take care of business there.
Now you're eight and seven taking on a stumbling Tampa
Bay team, And could you be nine and seven going

(43:24):
into a game at New England with the possibility of
getting the playoffs. They are a dangerous opponent. They've won
four in a row and they still have hope. And
I'm a big believer that when a football team has hope,
they are a dangerous football team.

Speaker 3 (43:39):
Absolutely, absolutely, When you have hope, everything is possible. Everything
is possible, and nothing's outside of the realm of ability.
So you know, the best way to do that stomp
out the hope is beat them. Yep, you got to
beat them. And when you beat them, you got to
beat them soundly. You can't just take a eat at

(44:00):
some point expected to just snowball. You've got to continually
put pressure on that team. You've got to pedal to
the metal, however you want to look at all gas
to breaks, however you want to phrase it.

Speaker 2 (44:11):
That's kind of how you have to approach each and
every one of these games.

Speaker 3 (44:15):
Because for the Steelers, we talked about this, you need
four out of the last six right to give yourself
a legitimate shot.

Speaker 2 (44:21):
Well one down, yes, and you know you dropped one.

Speaker 3 (44:25):
So you know, now it's three out of three out
of these lasts.

Speaker 4 (44:29):
And Detroit it's going to be tough. We know it's
going to be tough. You know what, man, if you're
good enough, you win tough games, right, and you want
a tough game, win tough game, right. Yeah, they want
to tough and they have another tough game. Didn't look
that way, but they got a tough game coming up
against the Dolphins on Monday night football.

Speaker 2 (44:45):
Here's why we kept it.

Speaker 4 (44:46):
That's exactly right.

Speaker 2 (44:47):
We're right for losing that game, and we didn't lose it.

Speaker 4 (44:50):
Colts at the Jaguars. Jaguars winning thirty six to nineteen.
There in first place.

Speaker 2 (44:54):
That is.

Speaker 4 (44:55):
You know, we talked about this at the beginning of
the season. I thought they were going to be better.
I thought they could be an eight or nine win team.
You know, they doubled down with Trevor Lawrence, they got
an offensive coach. They have been a surprise to me.
And at thirty thirty six and nineteen winners, they're in
first place. The I don't know if you knew this, Max,
a late score just coming in. The Steelers defeat the
Ravens twenty seven to twenty two. Were you aware of

(45:18):
that one? Yes? Yeah, no, that was an important game
in the AFC. You have division rivals. The Broncos hang
on to defeat the Raiders twenty four to seventeen. And
as we mentioned and started this things off, the Texans
defeated the Chiefs twenty to ten. By the way, in
case you're wondering how bizarre this football season is, Tampa Bay,
in desperate need of a win at home, lost to

(45:40):
the Saints twenty four to twenty the Saints. If you're
picking the handful of bad teams around the NFL, tennessee
the way the Browns have played the Saints, those would
be on your short list of teams. The Giants, the Jets,
and the Saints go to New Orleans and beat or
they go to Tampa and beat Tampa in Tampa. And tonight,

(46:00):
one more AFC opponent, one more AFC team, the Eagles
at the Chargers. That is a big game, again, Max,
for both of those teams tonight on Monday Night Football.

Speaker 2 (46:11):
It is it is. That is a huge game. And
you know you have to think, whoever comes out on
top has to feel good. And like you said, that
momentum and that mojo for December is all all in
your favor.

Speaker 3 (46:24):
But if you lose that one, you know you're sitting
there and it's making you questions some things because both
these teams a lot of pride at a lot of
football on the line here, so you want to see
how they do.

Speaker 2 (46:36):
And this is a good on good matchup tonight.

Speaker 4 (46:37):
