I first moved this late in you know, yeah or
early yeah July.

Like usually there's like a like an immense cool off,
and we got a little about that a little bit.
We had like a four day stretch where we hit
like the seventies and it was over.

is not a cloud in the sky and the heat
temperature gauge is nearing and rearing ninety degrees.

So when I first moved to Pittsburgh in two thousand,
they had I remember seeing something on the news and
they they had said that Pittsburgh had gone. It was
something like, oh boy, we need a weather person out there.
Something like three years without a single day reaching ninety.
It had been a while for some reason. There had

just been this stretch in which there was no no
days it reached ninety.

And now here we are. I mean, we've had to.

Have two dozen days in the night easily, easily all
up here, and post rain too, because rain usually cools.

Right, you know, and then yes, unless you're in Florida,
Unless you're in Florida, than the ensuing humidity, right, say
like it did Saturday night. Right, But you're right, I
mean not having that type of weather and now you're
seeing it this year. I mean, we we've gone through it,
and it's like, man, it is really hot when when
the heat kicks up. And listen, I know I live

in Arizona and I'm sitting here trying to act like
but humidity versus no humidity, there is a different difference,
ladies and gentlemen. I can promise you I can walk
around at one oh five in Arizona with dry heat. Yes,
I'm gonna say it, and it feels cliche, but I
don't sweat. I walk out here at ninety and I

am drenched. I mean that whole game Saturday night, we
had the windows open, the faint ac ribbon of cool
air that will hit you every five to ten minutes,
just for a secular Oh my god, where is that?
I gotta I gotta reproduce this. Where can I stand?
It's not it's not present. I didn't cool off in
that game until ten minutes into the to the flight
back home.

Yeah, I say, I think I told you like I'm
not gonna say it with humid but I took a
deep breath in and when I exhale, the guppy came

should have named in the Miami humidity. One always says

have been a great tagline for the team. So we
we are here inside and there's plenty of air conditioning here.
Today the field outside it will be ninety degrees hot.
Uh again, it's the temperatures have been warm. They're gonna

be warm all week. We're to see a scrimmage between
the two teams on Thursday at Akrosser Stadium. Uh, we
are not everybody else's practice. Yes, thank you for we
meaning you and me. And then then then less and
some you know, the writers and stuff. The writers will
all be there so and we'll talk about you know, hey, listen,

you get a little heat and then against people cranky,
and we'll see if there's any crankiness on Thursday and
whether that might spill over to some crankiness on Saturday.

about the team depth, and uh, you came up with

I was kind of, you know, doing the producer thing.
I'm always I'm keeping an eye on the beat, right,
I'm keeping an eye on the on the ticker, you're
keeping the pulse pulse the sports.

So I'm always keeping an eye on what's out there
and what's going on in any breaking news things like that.
And as you guys were talking about depth, I actually
found a different thing on ESPN where they were kind
of talking about each organization's future. Okay, so they ranked
every organization in the NFL based off their quarterback future,
based off the rest of their roster future, head coaching, future,

front office future. Okay, made that into equation ranked on
the taps, Yes, exactly right. But so what caught my
eye within that article was how they had every team's
rosters ranked excluding the quarterback, which I think is prime
for the depth conversation. We all know depth that quarterback
is important, but I think that's more of a non quarterback.

So soon let me ask you this is this now
we're getting some clarification here.

Maybe is this future depth right? Current depth?

Philadelphia, the reigning Super Bowl champions.

I don't think you could be surprised. I don't think
we could argue that at all.

Number two very deep, also of the AFC North, the
Baltimore Ravens.

Okay, I mean yes, ish.

Number three New Money struggled for a long time. Now
they've been hot on the block.

The Detroit Lions exactly, the fighting Dan Campbell's which of Detroit.

I get it because a lot of their concern is
around losing coordinators, you know what I mean. They did
lose two big pieces of that offensive line, but they
are they are deep, no doubt, no doubt. And you
bring in Drake green Law as well to Sorry that
was the Broncos. Never mind not the lines.

Yeah, I have no problems with one and three so far.

Speaker 6 (06:21):
Number four, this was the first one that kind of
made my eyebrows raise a little bit. And I think
they've got a good roster. But I don't know about
number four. The Denver Broncos. This four four, they should
be in the top ten, but I don't know about four.

Yeah, I wouldn't go that high. I mean, yeah, you're right,
I give them a top ten, but I am not
like their defense.

I think them and the Steelers should have the best
defenses in the national Football.

That just to just to be clear, now we're talking
about the Broncos team that the Steelers went up and
beat in Denver and Denver, the Students team without Jalen Ramsey, right,
without Darius Lay, without Metcalf, without Smith, without Rogers at quarterback,
without three of their draft choices from last year.

Right, that's the team, and very, that's the team.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
It's very I'm just asking a year ago, right that
we lost. We lost two players in that game, right
because Corey Trice correct and correct was not president the
rest of the season, and we lost.

Speaker 4 (07:19):
And I understand that the Studers are without Dan Moore. Okay,
so I just named six guys that they added side
of the draft class exactly. Okay, Okay, now let's go
who's five?

Speaker 6 (07:29):
This one surprised me to good team made the playoffs
last year, but five the green Bay Packers.

I mean I could kind of see green Bay ish.

They don't have any holes on their roster, but they
also don't have any like all pro stars on.

And again, just to reiterate, this is outside of the quarterback.

No one circles the wagons like the Buffalo Bills.

I will give you that. Well, no, no, I can't.

Because no, Josh Allen is not in the equation.

Josh Allen's not on the equation. I mean, James Cook
is sitting in right now. He doesn't have a contract,
he hasn't practiced or anything. So to say that at
the moment, that, nah, I can't don't know.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
So let me say I will say this about the Bills.

Speaker 4 (08:16):
And you know, I've got an open mind about the
Bills because last year I did not see them having
the kind of year they had last year. And the
reason is they have been hemorrhaging all pros. Hemorrhaging in
the offseason. Every year you look up, two or three
all pros are leaving that roster. So if I'm looking

at teams that remain competitive, stay competitive despite having the
disadvantage of consistently drafting late, the Steelers have done a
phenomenal job of that over the years. The New England
Patriots with Belichick did a phenomenal job with that with Brady,
phenomenal job of continuing to compete despite drafting late. The

Buffalo Bills. To me, the latest example, you have Sean McDermott,
you have that front office. They're working in lockstep. I'm
very impressed with what they've done. I think they've done
a phenomenal job. But I would also be interested to
see that team without Josh Allen.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
And that's what I was going to make the point.
This is devoid of the quarterback devoid of because Josh
Allen a lot.

Speaker 6 (09:24):
He's probably number two on the quarterback value list behind
Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Yeah, I mean, and I would would argue that. I
would say, even you know Jalen hurts as good as
he is, I wouldn't have him as ranked as high
as Josh Allen. I think he falls in like the
number four slot, maybe five. Lamar's up there to in
my top five. But but yeah, Josh Allen and Patrick
Mahomes will probably be the class of the quarterback royalty

or tier one type of quarterbacks.

Burrow Burrow Burrow is, but Burrow.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
Has you know, he had all that offense and he
still realized how much he needed a defense made. So
even as great as Joe Burrow is, he can't win
you as many games as a Josh Allen camp because
he can only do it as good as the receivers are.
He's not a runner like Josh Allen, right right, Josh
Allen as the legs Allen.

That's why in the Quarterbacks Ranking Quarterbacks Value portion of
this it was Mahomes one, Josh Allen two. Yeah, and
they had a quote from like an AFC executive who said,
Josh Allen is the harder quarterback to defend. That doesn't
mean he's better than Mahomes, but he's the harder guy
to defend because he because he could just beat you
in different ways.

Now I'll tell you though, man, I mean, you know, Mahomes,
Mahomes reminds me a lot of Rogers in his prime.
He really does off platform throws, the different things he
can do moving around in the pocket. I mean, you
don't think of him as a running quarterback. But both
of those guys, man, if it was third and seven,

they scramble for eight, it is. They don't scramble for
forty two early. But they're like, oh, I mean you're
just like you look up and you're like, oh, you
got the first down, man, get all you know, time.

Downs, right, Aaron Rodgers and Detroit. Detroit has to be
the team that has been the least beneficial of the
untimed down at the end of games and at the
mercy of Aaron Rodgers just staring down the barrel and
just smiling as he runs off the field score game
winning touchdown, like I mean, And that's where I think
it's it's just crazy to look at this list and

you have to you have to throw the quarterback out
of it. But that's where that's where we get like
the most like head scratching, because we're like, you're not
counting the quarterback, and especially like Buffalo, Like I mean,
you know what, Khalil Khalil Shakir. And I'm trying to say,
who are the other receivers for them? At the tight end?

I can't remember his name because obviously Buffalo is not
in our recent He's a good tight end, but he's
not earth shattering.

I thought I thought he was gonna be one of
those fantasy darlings last year. You think, okay, well, he's
going to take a huge step forwards the channel.

Because there wasn't a number one receiver right exactly still
middle of the.

Road, yep, Dian who's it Dion Smith? Now, who's the
other who's.

You got their wide receivers last year. Coleman Khalil Coleman
didn't really he was a k K Dawson Knox. Yeah,

Great defense, but also but you lost a couple of
cornerbacks he did this offseason. So is that defense as good? Right?
That's the question. No. DeAndre Hopkins yep. Veteran, he's now
a Raven So that's probably what propped up the Ravens
numbers number.

I can see that offensively. Defensively, still a lot of bugaboo.
Questions like the rushers, but outside of edge, yeah, I
mean yeah, Will Anderson is that dude. And Neil Hunter
has now become kind of that that other opposite piece
that you hope can can bring.

He's just consistently I'm still.

A four to three defense.

But yeah, I still don't know how Tomiko Ryan didn't
win Coach of the Year two years ago.

I've begun my preps for them, and they're they are.
I agree, they're deep, they're they're another team where you know,
you start looking at their wide receivers, you know, Jalen McMillan,
of those two guys, you just then a Mecha Buca
is your first round pick. They've got him pick, They've
got him listed as like fourth in their depth chart.
They got a young receiver named Tedz Johnson who's a

draft pick this year. He's moved up on their depth
chart from Oregon. Yeah, and now now you're looking at
other guys. You're like, okay, well they're probably gonna leave
out a receiver who might get picked up. You know,
just again, I'm one of the preliminary stages. But you
know when you look at this team, yeah, they're they're
one of those teams that they might have a tough day.

Time on cutdown day. They might they might be leaving
some guys out there.

There might there might be some some pieces left on
the on the toy shop table.

You thought the bucks might have been a couple of
spots higher. Also think remember you take quarterback out of
the equation. The number ten spot team could have been
a couple of spots higher. The Minnesota Vikings.

Yeah, Vikers got a lot of pieces. He's got a
lot of pieces. And actually it actually helps them not
having last year. Yeah yeah, yeah, no, fourteen fourteen three,
that's rights right, because they couldn't the two teams, they
could not beat Detroit or the La Rams. Yeah, there
are more losses were the two teams.

to me because.

Like if you tell me they get Christian McCaffrey back
healthy and Bosa back healthy. Okay, but what was your

And they lost how many guys?

a very deep and very good roster. When you start
to win, and when you have a franchise quarterback, you

Uh, this team, the Rams, I am, I think that
they have done. What they've done is kind of incredible.
Like they just said, Okay, we're gonna throw all our

And first of all, you say that and then you
win the Super Bowl. How many teams have said that
and not even made the playoffs?

Right, it's been disastrous. They won the Super went to
one one of them. Then they took all of.

bereft of top picks, just got starters and quality players
in all pros in the fourth, fifth, sixth rounds. That's
what they've done is impressive. I mean, you you have

We're gonna go all in the heck with the draft picks.

appearance and feeling good the Washington come and.

we're not talking about the quarterback of the quarterback made
a hell of taking that stuff forward and he was
a Rookie of the Year. I mean, this dude went
toe to toe is a rookie against Jalen Hurts, and
you're talking about three plays away at the best plays
three plays of actually going to a super Bowl in

his rookie season, and he won.

He tied, he tied Ben's record for most wins by
a rookie quarterback in league history.

Uh, the Steelers without dk Metcalf, without Jalen Ramsey, without
Darius Slay, without Cole Holcombe, without Troy Futano, Roman Wilson,
Logan Lee, without Aaron Rodgers, how'd they do when they
went to Washington last year?

Well, Now they won, didn't they? They beat the call.

this exercise, you have to mention micka Fitzpatrick is no
longer with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Najie Harris is no longer

still not as deep as the Commanders.

Starting from the top number one, the Eagles, Ravens, Lions, Broncos, Packers,
that is their top five. Bill's Chiefs, Houston, Tampa Bay,
and the Vikings round out your top ten. Niners eleven, Rams,
twelve Commanders thirteen, the Bengals fourteen, the Chicago Bears fifteen.

Chicago Bears are fifteen fifteen. Hey, listen, I will give
it to them. They have allocated a lot of resources
to making Caleb Williams great. Yep. But at the same time,
this team was not that great last year. Just want
just want to throw that out there. But apparently they
have better depth this year out of the quarterback at fifteen.

And I would even argue, listen, if we're gonna do this, okay,
I would give Chicago a notch above the Bengals. They're
behind the Bengals, which I don't get because they have

I won't call him a full on albatross yet, but

team is ranked fifteen behind the Bengals, but well in

running back group?

They them internally? What do they think about it? I
think Strange will be a better tight end for him
this year with the weapons around them. I think after

think there's they've got serious issues at the linebacker position.
They have serious issues at the safety position.
