Speaker 1 (00:10):
This is in the Locker Room, presented by Ford and
brought to you by acro Sure, the official insurance and
cybersecurity partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, by Bett MGM, Huntington Bank, PNC, PEPSI,
and by FedEx. Where now meets next? Now here's Craig
Wolfley and Max Starks.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Just know him really well. I was right in our backyard.
We had a comfort level.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
We saw play here two years ago against pitt and
I remember at halftime, Dan Kulver come up to me
and he's like, you see a center from West Virginia
dumping guys you know on the ground. Said yeah, we
both saw it, and he was on our radar then.
And I think it just says you got to know him.
I went down last year and saw him play with
Mike Butler. We saw himlay against the YU and they
had two hundred yards rushing in the first half, and

(00:56):
I mean he was just mowing guys down, you know.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
And then just getting to know the kid through the school, visit,
the makeup. You know, he's got a special football character
to him.

Speaker 4 (01:06):
Oh Max, that's Andy Weddll talking about Zach Frasier. And
of course he's also the guy that said ground and
pound offensive lines are basically said, ground and pound offensive
lines travel. Well, well, they certainly did. When you take
a look at that game film and watch it, you
can't help but go to the fourth quarter and see

(01:27):
what goes on there. You got it roughly around twenty
three twenty four plays somewhere in there twenty five.

Speaker 5 (01:31):
I don't know what it was.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
Keep forgetting, you know, but throughout that whole circumstance of
the fourth quarter, you've got eleven minutes plus and change
in time of possession, and it was marinatean and just
ramming the rock right down the throats of the Atlanta Falcons.
You're talking about a run pass of like twenty to

(01:54):
three or something like that. I mean, I gotta tell
you something, this was everything you wanted to see in
the fourth quarter. You're snatching victory and taking it and
stuffing it down the throat of some you know, mis
Grant foul or bird down there in Atlanta. Man, because
that was at the spearhead. That was Zach Fraser, who

(02:15):
we got a guy that contacted me on the internet
and said, why don't we call him I hop Fraser
or Zach I hoop something like that. He was Stan
guy name Stan on the internet. But you know, I
think that's a pretty good idea, Max. I thought it
came about pretty well. No, it definitely did.

Speaker 6 (02:33):
Wolf And what you're talking about, uh in that fourth
quarter pretty much roughly starting that first quarter with fourteen
minutes and seventeen seconds left and going on a thirteen
play seventy two yard drive.

Speaker 7 (02:49):
That ended with a turnover on downs.

Speaker 5 (02:51):
Yeah, that's unfortunate. Okay, but that's not warp.

Speaker 6 (02:55):
But what but still in the lead, and you took
half of the quarter from the falcons. That's where the
most important aspect is of it. Wolf And that's that's
the mentality. And like I said, I'm not worried about
the fact there wasn't points. I'm just ecstatic at what

(03:15):
they did at that moment when you needed to do
that right. You didn't want to give Atlanta the football
in that moment, And and and and and they all
got together, and they came together and with their powers combined,
they went to Captain Cluckeater. There's a Captain Planet joke.
I just kind of set that up, but it was yeah, yeah,

(03:38):
but and and that's cool to know that you had,
you know, the rookie Zach Frasier at the center of
it all.

Speaker 7 (03:44):
See what I did there, and it was just.

Speaker 6 (03:48):
It was awesome to see them kind of like you said,
flex your muscle right, be a bully, go and take
the ball away from the opponent and keep playing keep
away for an extended amount of time. That was just
impressive to see. And like you said, Zach Frasier getting
in there and being one of the main drivers in
that situation was a very cool thing see. And also

(04:09):
with Spencer Anderson right there at the side, a guy
who who hasn't had a lot of experience in this league,
both of them relatively young in this and both of
them doing really well and helping the team succeed.

Speaker 7 (04:21):
You know.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
The funny thing again is and I got to credit
Ray Fittapaldi with looking it up. But the fact that
you've got Spencer Anderson with multiple starts in college at
Maryland at left tackle, at center, at right guard, at
right tackle, but none Zipo Nada at left guard in
his first start at left guard as a pro, I

(04:43):
just I don't know, I mean, you gotta love stuff
like that. So we've got too young in side by
side and under the fiercest fire of the fourth quarter
of being able to drive the ball down the throats
of a very tired Atlanta defense. They were even referring
reference in the fact that could you throw a pass
or something, you know, instead of just beating us down

(05:06):
with his run game. But you know, that's what you
live for. That's what we live for.

Speaker 5 (05:10):
Max. You know it.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
You were there with Dan Kryder, You're there with Bussy.
You know, you know what it's like to just ground
and pound and pound and ground and get up and
marinate them all over again. That is the most fun
you can have as an offensive line because those guys
on defense they get up slower and slower. Then they
start to argue with each other, and then they're looking

(05:33):
for ways to get off the field.

Speaker 5 (05:35):
You gotta love it.

Speaker 6 (05:37):
Oh yeah, no, Like I said, you know, once you
get a defensive lineman to pull to Peter Griffin from
family guy, I'm sorry, miss where so Peter Griffin like
he tripped and hit his knee.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
On the ground.

Speaker 6 (05:53):
Oh okay, okay, yeah, he's just sitting there holding his knee,
rocking back and forth, and it's like for an extended
like ten second part of you know of a TV
show where it's just him rocking back and forthfolding his knee.
That's what it is. The phantom injuries. You know, they
come up guys laying down like, I don't know what
it is. There's something wrong. I'm not sure it's between

(06:13):
my neck and my and my toes.

Speaker 7 (06:15):
I don't know where is it between.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
There's a floating, nondescript injury.

Speaker 5 (06:22):
I've known. I've played with a couple of guys like that.

Speaker 6 (06:25):
Yeah, exactly wherever you touch, it's a possibility, but it's
not guaranteed.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
Depends on what's going to get me out the longest,
you know. Oh man, But you know you think about
Andy Weddle says punishing powerful, fist in your face type
offensive lines. They travel well and we saw it and
that the manifestation came about right there and I just
love it, you know again coming back to uh, you

(06:52):
know one of my favorite shows, you know with ba
Baracus and George my part, you know, and he goes,
I love when when a plan comes together. You know,
what was that called the eighteen They dog gone out here?

Speaker 5 (07:04):
I am. I'm like, I couldn't remember exactly what it
was that you.

Speaker 7 (07:08):
Know, yeah, I can fill in for it.

Speaker 5 (07:13):
I got your back.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
But I love when plan but part would light that,
light up that cigar at the end of the shongle.

Speaker 5 (07:18):
I love when a plan comes together.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
Well, I would say that Mike Tomlin and Arthur Smith
probably would have lit up at least a h I
don't know, temporary cigar.

Speaker 5 (07:31):
They would have lit up a victory cigar because that
that really earned it.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
That was an earning a cigar type march right through
Atlanta and that fourth quarter.

Speaker 6 (07:43):
No, it was, it was. It was you know, it's
it's flex your muscles. It's like, listen, we went and
got these big strong guys. Let's go ahead and show
you what we've learned with our big strong guys.

Speaker 7 (07:55):
And I think when you think about.

Speaker 6 (07:57):
It as we get further into the season, I just
I believe if you're looking for opportunities to get guys
on the field, I believe two of those other three
of the three might find their way into some short
yards packages. I have to believe that, because I think
they're that gifted that you can get one, if not

(08:17):
both of them in there in some of those And
imagine putting seven linemen on the field at one time.

Speaker 7 (08:22):
Oh my offensive lineman on the field at one time.

Speaker 6 (08:27):
Because you can go double, because you can go double eligible,
it's not against the rules.

Speaker 7 (08:33):
On one side. Put Mason mccorwick on the other and.

Speaker 6 (08:37):
Just dare them, dare them, like, hey, come on, match
us please.

Speaker 5 (08:42):
We got seven to one on ones here, all right.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
You just everybody lock up for somebody unless you got
to do all blocks something like then of course you
got to go too on one. But you know, as
far as that goes, I mean, you just line up
and just keep punching.

Speaker 5 (08:54):
Man.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
And I just watch, you know, watching it again this morning,
I kind of like geeked up, man, because you're watching.

Speaker 5 (09:01):
I watched Zach Zach Frazier. You tech. This kid comes
out in his first game. Man, he turns the dude
and then he slams greedy Jared. I'm going, that's creedy Jared.
You just slam man. Way to go, Way to go.

Speaker 4 (09:15):
You know that's David on your mana that you just
pile drive on the on another step.

Speaker 5 (09:20):
Way to go. You know you got Dan Moore, you
got uh, you got.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
James Daniels in Brojo and and you got Spencer they're
coming off the ball and there are people moving and
you love that. And and the fact is, nobody set
the tone better in my mind than than now Gee Harris.

(09:46):
That is the most combative running back I've seen in
the fourth quarter in a long time. This guy wanted that,
he wanted the rock, he wanted the game, he wanted
it all, and he was I'm telling you, I just
thought the fighting that dog was amazing and I think
inspired everybody else because you could see the boys run
into the battle to sheriff the pile when he broke

(10:06):
that twenty yarder and some of the other runs that
he had in that fourth quarter.

Speaker 6 (10:11):
Oh yeah, I mean, well think about this, you know,
Wolf Ranford. Ramford had twenty touches in the game on
the ground and then of course one additional catch. But everyone,
I guarantee you the Atlanta defense felt every carry. They
remembered how many times Najee Harris carried the football. Because

(10:33):
there's a bruise probably on each member of that team
that tried to tackle him for every time that.

Speaker 5 (10:38):
He that he rushed the football.

Speaker 6 (10:40):
So you know, when you look at it that way,
it's just it's so it was so great to see
and you felt it like, at no point did I
feel like the Steelers weren't.

Speaker 7 (10:51):
In control of this football game.

Speaker 6 (10:52):
Well, if you know what I'm saying, Like, even even
when they even when you know, Atlanta had had had
their had their dry where they kind of took things
kind of really quickly, and you saw, you know, taking
the ball first in the game and using your no
huddle and trying to get Kirk in a rhythm. Even then,

(11:13):
even when I saw that, I was like, this will
have to stop at some point, right because Kirk hasn't
played in the preseason. And I don't care how many
how many you know, find one hundreds you've done, or
how many half gasers you've done. Playing real football is
different than running than running sprints. Oh yeah, and he's

(11:35):
run out of gas or the linemen are going to
run out of gas. One of the two was going
to run out of gas. And unfortunately all of them
were starting to leak, and we're on E and the
defense that wasn't a little bit better shape, they got tenderized.
They got tenderized like flank stake and yeah, what once
was hard now it's soft and smooth.

Speaker 4 (11:58):
If that wasn't Rocky Bell bowling going to the body
on club, relying in Paul It stand in the corner.

Speaker 5 (12:03):
He's getting mad. Yeah. Look, that was the.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
Moment on that fourth quarter drive, that thirteen play, seventy
two yard drive that you're talking about, that really summarized
the game. It summarized the will of this offensive unit.
I think it encapsulated who Arthur Smith is. There's a
lot of people out there saying, well, you know, we
could have done this.

Speaker 5 (12:25):
I'll stop it. Just stop it, man, the.

Speaker 4 (12:28):
Man just get touchdown.

Speaker 7 (12:31):
Why did we get touched? Un I'm sorry.

Speaker 6 (12:34):
I don't know if you knew this, but all NFL
teams needed their kickers to make plays this this NFL weekend.
I don't know a team that didn't win that didn't
need their kicker to kick a bunch of them. Yeah,
Jake Mood last night. Yeah for San Francisco. So you know,

(12:55):
for all those people bellyaching about that the points will come,
the damn will break. When you're talking about a new
system with new pieces, a new quarterback, a new center,
the new left guard, a new right receiver, right, all
these new new new new things and you're expecting instant results.
The rest of the league. Do you know what the
rest of the league averaged this this weekend? Wolf and

(13:17):
passing yards? The average quarterback passing one hundred and sixty eight. Interesting,
that was the average, right, I mean we had to
come about that's what that's what did you do?

Speaker 7 (13:28):
Math for geniuses?

Speaker 5 (13:31):
The NFL research did it?

Speaker 7 (13:33):
What are you talking about?

Speaker 5 (13:35):
Said?

Speaker 6 (13:36):
Okay, I need to add I need to add thirty
two different passing yards divided by thirty two. You can
carry the one. No, I was not doing that. Thank
you NFL Stats and Research for doing the job for
me and allowing me to sound really intelligent, like I'm an analytics.

Speaker 4 (13:52):
Guy instead a partner throws you under the buses? Did
you add that about you?

Speaker 5 (14:00):
I said that.

Speaker 7 (14:00):
I said that. Yep.

Speaker 5 (14:02):
Just kept it moving, roll with it.

Speaker 6 (14:05):
Many free words could have could have chased this entire conversation.

Speaker 7 (14:09):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (14:12):
All right, We're off to a flying start here in
the locker Room. It's Wolf, Starks and the Ninjas. That's
the opening sale. Oh we're coming right back after us.

Speaker 5 (15:10):
Can you repeat that? Can you repeat that twice for
Wolf please?

Speaker 6 (15:13):
Okay, okay, I will do that again right after this,
Craig Wolf Lee.

Speaker 7 (15:18):
Don't go anywhere.

Speaker 6 (15:19):
The show is not over with because the Mike tom
and press conference is going on right after this today.
So you can get coffee, you can get you can
get some cold Caliente pizza in the fridge, but you
can't get in your car and crank it up and
leave the.

Speaker 5 (15:34):
Parking lot, gotcha? Okay? All right?

Speaker 7 (15:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (15:38):
That and that I don't know why, for whatever reason,
that was the red Wolf. You know, I don't know
what happened here, but.

Speaker 7 (15:44):
For work. Yeah, verbatim here. I mean, gosh, you know, I.

Speaker 4 (15:50):
Can't tell you the number of times Wesley's chased me
down the hallway.

Speaker 5 (15:53):
Gun, Oh, you're not leaving yet. You gotta do the
not that door, not that door.

Speaker 8 (15:59):
Max can leave your keys, Max, Can I tell you
a funny story from last night too? Okay, because not
only you know, not only am I producing Wolf here,
you know, for a few hours a week in the
studio and reminding him about our extra ten minutes of
duty's on Tuesdays. Last night Wolf text me and he goes,
what's up with this Monday night football broadcast? Is it

(16:21):
just Belichick and these Mannings just yapping the whole time?
And I said, well, I said, Wolf, you gotta be
watching ESPN two. The main broadcast is on ESPN. He
text me back a minute later, he goes, ah, you
were right.

Speaker 6 (16:35):
I'm telling you yeah, I can see him.

Speaker 5 (16:38):
There's more than one ESPN. I said, well, that's what
I'm here for for you, brother.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
You know, I love Bayton Manny, I love Eli Belichick.
You know, of course is Belichick, but the.

Speaker 5 (16:49):
Three of them together is like, could you just shut up?
But let me watch the game.

Speaker 4 (16:53):
I didn't realize you know that the Manning whatever thing is, Yeah,
the Manning.

Speaker 6 (17:00):
On ESPN two where they bring in guess did you
see Adam Sandler at least?

Speaker 7 (17:03):
Or did you just see Belichick?

Speaker 4 (17:04):
No, it was just Belichick and I was I was writing, Peyton,
I love you because you just shut that yapper for
a little.

Speaker 7 (17:12):
Bit, exactly exactly just put well.

Speaker 6 (17:16):
But the problem was if he would have tried to
like put a paper bag over his head so you
try and mute him. You know his his forehead is
so tall, it's an extra deep bag.

Speaker 7 (17:26):
Has has his hairline gone back further? I'm just I'm
just asking.

Speaker 5 (17:29):
For a friend.

Speaker 6 (17:30):
I mean, I don't know a lot of real estate
up there, a lot of real estate.

Speaker 5 (17:34):
I got a lot myself to talk, you know what
I mean.

Speaker 6 (17:38):
But you're not trying to hold onto hair that should
be gone. You know what I'm saying, Like yours is different,
Yours is smooth. You got a smooth cue ball, right,
you know what I'm saying, Like it's different. He's like
holding on to it, you know it's but it's getting
like it's getting.

Speaker 7 (17:54):
Very Sherman Hilmsley asque.

Speaker 6 (17:56):
You know what I'm saying, it's getting way back there,
just Sam. AnyWho we are, we are live here, we
are talking about Steelers victory.

Speaker 7 (18:15):
Yeah, we do, we do. Thank you, Arthur.

Speaker 6 (18:17):
You know what, We're right, you know, we're just we're
just gonna line up a twelve person then we're just
gonna run it.

Speaker 7 (18:21):
Okay.

Speaker 6 (18:21):
So you know, I do want to talk about the
job that Justin Fields did.

Speaker 7 (18:28):
I think it's to be duly noted.

Speaker 6 (18:31):
Justin as the game progressed, got better, got calmer, and
you really saw him start to settle in. And he's
a really good quarterback, man. I mean, he's a really
good quarterback. And like you said, I think I think
the reason why he was able to have the success
that he did on Sunday, even though like short duty

(18:53):
finding out that you're not gonna you know, oh sorry,
that Russ is not going to go and that you're
gonna start, you know, and it was kind of up
to game time decision about that. I thought, given the circumstances,
he performed admirably well. And I have to believe if
he does have to go this week, I feel comfortable
with him because he's he's got he's he's gotten all

(19:14):
of the jitters out, you know early on I mean
that first snap, right.

Speaker 7 (19:19):
You know he has a dive played for positive yards
wolf if you look at it that way, that's exactly.

Speaker 4 (19:24):
And I thought the fact that you fake the fumbled snap, oh,
everybody goes, oh yeah, it's a fumble step and then
you tear up on a quarterback sneak get yourself nice
three yards?

Speaker 5 (19:34):
Okay?

Speaker 7 (19:36):
Yeah, who was expected quarterback sneak on the very first
play of the game on first and ten. Nobody. That's
called surprising and shocking alle right there.

Speaker 4 (19:45):
Shocking awe, I tell you exactly, man, that was That
was just some good stuff there.

Speaker 6 (19:51):
Took him completely by surprise. Took him completely by surprise.
But then you know he had some overthrows early. You know,
he tried to gun it a little bit too hard,
you know, he fluttered one to nausey miss Van. But
then you saw him start to settle down. You know,
they altered the game plan a little bit. We choose
to run in the football do it at a very

(20:13):
good clip. And I just thought, man, just let him
settle down just to get to this first quarter, and
then we saw him shine and into the first half
that played at George pickens Man was beautiful.

Speaker 5 (20:26):
It was It was beautiful, you know.

Speaker 6 (20:28):
And I just thought, in a moment where you didn't
think you could get points to put a drive together
in that short of time and get points out of it,
couldn't ask for anything better.

Speaker 5 (20:37):
Absolutely, And you know what, I really appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (20:40):
I thought it was very smart of Arthur Smith to put, uh,
you know, put the legs to justin Field, get him
out on the edge, get him a third of the
field to look at. Run a little high low you know,
you get a low receiver there in the flight, you
get a high one up there trying to put into
anybody out there playing the flat.

Speaker 5 (20:58):
You put them in conflict. What's he gonna do?

Speaker 4 (21:00):
Is he gonna go with the guy running an out
pattern in front of him, or is he gonna, you know,
jump on the quarterback rolling out?

Speaker 5 (21:07):
Who knows?

Speaker 4 (21:07):
But I mean it was great because it really put
the ability of Justin Fields to use his legs to
create that conflict that got him some nice yardage at
a very important time of the game. And I don't
care how you string it together. Yeah, you'd like to
see nice smooth passing game, and that's not gonna be
us for a while, you know what I mean, until

(21:27):
things kind of get hammered out a little bit and
you start to get a good grounding, and you know,
and Justin is just getting used to the Pittsburgh way
with Arthur Smith and what Arthur Smith is trying to
impute to his offensive guys there. This is gonna take
a little bit of it's gonna take work and everything else.
But the ability to get him out on the edges,
I thought was tremendous. And to vary that launch point

(21:50):
very very good, very very smart. Yeah, you're absolutely right.

Speaker 6 (21:56):
I mean the move pocket because the kid has legs. Right,
Let's not make it too complicated, Let's not overthink it right,
utilize the kiss method, right, keep it simple, stupid.

Speaker 7 (22:08):
Absolutely, and it worked, and it worked.

Speaker 6 (22:11):
I think it was something that I looked at it
and I said, you know what, good game plan to
keep everybody in line as far as mentally wearing the football,
Like you said, a little bit more quarterback option in there,
little quarterback design run to make him honest, and then
of course a little bit of freestyle in there, not
too much, kept the borders up, but give them a

(22:34):
little bit of freestyle and let justin just perform it,
let him dictate his own destiny, right, and not behold
him to the Russ game plan, and give him some variability.
I thought they did a good job of being flexible
with that mid game and making the in game adjustments,
which is something we didn't see a year ago this
time of year, right, we didn't see adjustments on the fly.

(22:58):
It was we have the game, We're sticking to the
game plan. We're just gonna run these plays. No, you
saw Arthur Smith was trying to make sure that he
varied that for them. The communication on the sidelines, it
was it was busy bees in a hive. If you
ever have seen like little Cameron, it goes up to
a high and sees with the bees are just all over, right,
They're all over moving, doing things. And I thought it

(23:20):
was a good frenzy to have. There was no stagnation,
like I could tell you. You know, I mean all the
time you look on the sidelines and everybody's in their
own silo, right, you know, o line sitting together, running
back sitting together, tight ends sitting together, wide receiver sitting together.

Speaker 7 (23:36):
Quarterback, you know, on a phone.

Speaker 6 (23:39):
No, everybody was talking and communicating with each other, and
I thought that was good harmony, and it looked it
felt like a team that had a different mindset on
the sidelines, and it was fun to see. It's fun
to see and you saw guys celebrating with each other,
Guys are in tuned to the game as well as
trying to get their adjustments, and I thought that was
something that was a stark contract as you know when

(24:01):
I think about how it's been in the past, and
that was a good sign. And you can see nobody
got frustrated. Nobody's throwing their helmet. Well TJ threw his
helmet that one time, but that was because the referees.
We're being poopoheads. Like I said, I'm on my big
boy words today. I'm not using facial primal four letter words.
But that's what I felt like, I know, earmuffs ear muffs,

(24:26):
so I can say it, but no, I mean, but
other than that, you saw you felt a general buzz
of happiness. And that's what and that's why I said
kind of earlier in the show Wolf, they never felt
like they were out of control in this game. Everything
was in control and there was a quiet confidence. And
then it became a more outward confidence by the guys

(24:46):
as they realized, no, we can do this, we could
do this, and the belief and that's all you need. Listen,
you got to have belief and you got to have confidence,
and that keeps the morale high.

Speaker 7 (24:58):
And morale was very high on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (25:00):
You know, it's so funny because when you mentioned busy
bees and then you know all this and that, it
took me back all of a sudden, had a flashback
to my childhood when I was like ten or eleven
something like that. I was added some cousins and they
had a barn across the street, you know, full of
hay stacked. Hey, so we were doing with kids. We
were in there jumping, you know, jumping on the hay
and everything else. Yours truly landed on a beehive that

(25:23):
we didn't know was in in the hay. And let
me tell you, then, busy bees came alive real quick.

Speaker 5 (25:30):
They chased me. Baby.

Speaker 4 (25:31):
I was sprinting out the door and I'm like god
like that. They caught me for about ten yards before
I got to the house. I was almost there, and
I got stung like fourteen or fifteen times.

Speaker 5 (25:43):
It was brutal. I tell you, I can still remember them.

Speaker 4 (25:46):
I look at bees today like, let me just chill
keep out here, man, I'll tell you what that would hurt.

Speaker 5 (25:52):
I remember that one. So you went full winny of
the pools.

Speaker 4 (25:56):
What you're telling me, oh I did, Yeah, you're looking
at honey. Well I wasn't looking for honey, man, I
was looking for cover. But the bees, if you were,
ye oh yeah, looking for cover, they were looking for retribution.
I must have crushed the beehive because I was jumping around.
I landed in this pileot hey, and all of a
sudden things started buzzing.

Speaker 5 (26:16):
Why is a beehive in the hay?

Speaker 7 (26:19):
Though?

Speaker 5 (26:20):
I know their country bees, you know, they're.

Speaker 7 (26:22):
Very weird their country bees.

Speaker 5 (26:25):
They're not like they know no better. Yeah, they don't
know any better exactly. They're not.

Speaker 6 (26:29):
They're not city bees. Their country they're not even urban bees.
You know, they're way out in the country.

Speaker 7 (26:36):
That is hilarious.

Speaker 5 (26:38):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 4 (26:38):
It wasn't at the moment, I tell you.

Speaker 7 (26:41):
Yeah, oh my gosh.

Speaker 6 (26:43):
But you know what, but you know what this beehive
attacked and all they stung was falcons.

Speaker 7 (26:48):
Yes, the steeler bees.

Speaker 5 (26:50):
Absolutely.

Speaker 6 (26:51):
They they and they weren't quite killer bees, but they
were bees. Nonetheless, I think that's the best way of
killer bees putting a bow that Yes, yes.

Speaker 4 (27:02):
Again, flashbacks right. Did you see the fourth and one
in the fourth quarter when Justin Fields tried to, you know,
sneak it and the guy came over the top and
got him. Did you see Jayalen Warren run up and
tried to like it was gonna give him the touch
push and yes, and Justin Fields went with the up
kick at that moment.

Speaker 5 (27:23):
Yeah, poor caught it well.

Speaker 4 (27:27):
To put it where Jalen caught the foot was as
Chuck Nole once said when Jack Lamberg got stomped on
the Cleveland sidelines, he said, they kicked him where a
young man shouldn't be kicked.

Speaker 5 (27:37):
Jalen got kicked where a young man should be kicked.
I was laughing.

Speaker 6 (27:42):
Aka, where the sun don't shine, where the sun don't shine.

Speaker 5 (27:48):
Exactly. So, oh man, let me tell you that that's funny.

Speaker 6 (27:54):
They did not practice. That was not a brotherly shove. No,
that was.

Speaker 5 (27:59):
That was an yeah exactly, that was a sibling upkick.
I'm sweating.

Speaker 7 (28:09):
We do it different the Western Pa. We'll know those
Eastern boys.

Speaker 5 (28:12):
Do this all started with country bees. Yes, this this,
this is what happens.

Speaker 6 (28:21):
It devolves quickly and uh, you know, I'm sure Arthur
Smith is thinking something right now, what do you think, Wes?

Speaker 5 (28:29):
We gotta get out all our way? There we go,
there we go.

Speaker 8 (28:33):
Let's hit the Florida Gators button. I just had you
know that one of those moments where it was like
looking at me and I was hit the wrong one
for a second.

Speaker 5 (28:41):
What was it?

Speaker 7 (28:41):
But Max starrs Florida Gators.

Speaker 6 (28:43):
Okay, oh god, okay, yes, we know we have a
lot of butts, but you.

Speaker 7 (28:50):
Hit the right one west until you hit the wrong one.

Speaker 5 (28:53):
Just know that.

Speaker 6 (28:55):
All right, Well, we gotta step aside. We'll be back
with more. Here inside the locker Room was Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
This is in the Locker Room, presented by Ford and
brought to you by Akroshure, the official insurance and cybersecurity
partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, by Bett MGM, Huntington Bank, PNC, PEPSI,
and by FedEx. Where now meets next? Now here's Craig
Wilfley and Max Starks.

Speaker 4 (29:31):
You know, Max is a nice homecoming. We got Terrell Edmonds.
Welcome home, Torell. You know, Terrell was the Steelers' first
round draft pick back in twenty eighteen, spent five seasons
as a starting strong safety. Matter of fact, he played
in eighty one of eighty four games. I mean you
talk about durability, this guy the best ability is his
availability and has started all but three of the eighty

(29:55):
one games. And then he was you know, he went
to Philly last year and then traded the Tennessee last October.
But he signed with the Jacksonville then ended up on
the Peace squad. So we got Mika, we got DeShawn,
we got Demonte, and we got Terrell Edmonds. Twenty seven

(30:16):
years of age, ninety six NFL games of experience, Max.
That's a lot of games for such a young guy.
Six interceptions, twenty eight passes broken up, seven and a
half sacks, four hundred and fifty eight tackles. He is
one of those in the box cracker Jack in the
box guys. That's for sure. Welcome home. I would say

(30:37):
to Terrell Edmonds, it's that that is a I think
that could be a nice significant piece picking up in
the back end there.

Speaker 6 (30:46):
No, I think you know all you have to do
is think back to the twenty twenty two season Wolf,
and remember when almost our entire secondary was decimated, Right,
but yeah, guess who was still there cracking ahead and
calling stuff out. Still standing still here, guys like I'm

(31:09):
I'm still standing exactly. And you know, Terrell such a
great young man, right, I mean, just a great personality,
very humble, very gracious, and also very physical. And when
you're thinking about creating physical presence, Terrell.

Speaker 7 (31:27):
Edmans is one of those guys. And you know, it's
good to have him back.

Speaker 6 (31:31):
And like you said, has proven his durability year in
and year out, and over the course of his career
thus far, no matter the situation, he's always been there.
And you know, a lot of people gave him a
hard time.

Speaker 7 (31:42):
Oh he doesn't have more interceptions than that.

Speaker 6 (31:44):
We don't need to have interceptions, be a sure tackler,
and he and he was that in his career. He
wasn't He wasn't a guy that needed to do the interception.

Speaker 7 (31:51):
That's why you had.

Speaker 6 (31:51):
Minca, right, and he was Minca's wing man.

Speaker 5 (31:57):
Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (31:57):
You know I kept telling him when you know he
was here, I said, why don't you get on a squad?
Program and get yourself some you know, get some Omaha steaks, baby,
you know, get blow up to be a linebacker because
he in the box. You watch him in the box,
he operates so well there. He is one of those
guys that is not afraid to come up and put
the bang, you know, in any of the run gap

(32:21):
fits that you got to have as a strong safety.

Speaker 5 (32:23):
And I just.

Speaker 4 (32:25):
Appreciate his his physicality because he really brings the bang
and he is such a durable guy.

Speaker 5 (32:31):
So I think it's a good pickup.

Speaker 4 (32:33):
As always you're looking to, you know, anytime you can
upgrade your roster. I think you know that's the way
to do it. You got to keep upgrading whenever you can. No,
you have to.

Speaker 6 (32:45):
And and you know, kudos to the scout squad and
the front office guys for going out identifying talent, figuring
out needs for the team, and going in attacking those things.
I think you're if you're not churning your roster, you're not, uh,
you know, making sure that everything looks good and that
you're replacing guys when when there's injuries or deficiencies to

(33:07):
make your roster stronger. That's really what the first couple
of weeks of the regular season are because there's only
one final cut, Wolf in training camp, and not the
multiple cuts that we're used to.

Speaker 7 (33:17):
Back in our day. This is kind of that extended
cut period right right.

Speaker 6 (33:22):
And then week two for everybody out there, Week two
is always a busy veteran signing period in season for
one very good reason. This is kind of pulling the
curtain back and showing you how the sausage is made.
The reason why week two is so important, Wolf, Do
you know why that is?

Speaker 4 (33:41):
Well, hopefully you're making the adjustments from week one, and
that is true. That is one, yes, yes, one.

Speaker 6 (33:48):
But from a from a fiscal responsibility side or.

Speaker 5 (33:53):
A sorry that's above my pay grade.

Speaker 6 (33:58):
Yeah, now, don't worry, don't worry, Wolf, This is not
about the pay gris. This is one of those where
it's like if you don't ask, you don't know type
of situation. Okay, but in week two, if you're a
vested veteran, your salary is not guaranteed throughout the whole
season as opposed to being on the roster week one
opening day.

Speaker 5 (34:16):
Really, yeah, so that's what I got about that? Yeah, yeah,
I remember, now.

Speaker 6 (34:22):
See you know, you know, so that's why, you know, yeah,
exactly what. And like I said, for the most part,
like when you're thinking about it, you're just like, hey,
we're just adding these veterans. No, there's a reason why
you add the veterans in week two. You sacrifice week
one because you don't want to guarantee the salary because right,
more often than not, if there's an injury something, you're

(34:43):
kind of hamstrung by the salary cap.

Speaker 7 (34:45):
So what you do is you sign most of your veterans.
So what's movement this week around the league?

Speaker 6 (34:50):
Where you'll see veterans that are vested veterans, you know,
four plus years of experience that now gets signed at
these squads, and and you're looking to bols your roster
in a better way because of that one little clerical
or financial accounting aspect of the NFL.

Speaker 7 (35:09):
So that that yeah.

Speaker 6 (35:10):
So that is that is a little bit a little
bit of insight there, wolf just in case for all
those for all those out there wondering.

Speaker 4 (35:16):
Well exactly, so, all right, that's well said, well done,
and I even I can understand that. So moving right
along to the last thing, because we're gonna open up
the phone lines in the second hour here of the
power hour, Max is gonna take over and you start
handling that and we're gonna start talking about game balls
and everything else. We had a lot of other stuff

(35:37):
that we wanted to get in in the first you know,
the first day after the game, and of course in
the first hour was moren But we're gonna get going.
So you can what's the number four, one, two, three, six?
Oh man man ball is that kid? How about that.

Speaker 5 (35:53):
Right offing right there, right exactly?

Speaker 4 (35:56):
So you know, let me let me just throw this
out too, because of the things that you know, think about.
You know, we got such great Jedi ed edge rushers.
I mean, you know the likes of TJ. Watt and
Alex Highsmith and yes, there you go, there is no
try that's it exactly right. And now we've got to

(36:17):
include Nick Herbig in that because he's another Jedi. But
I mean, those three guys together really bringing a lot
of bang. But how about what the interior guys did
you know? You watch and you take a look, Keanu
Benton was battling. How about Cam Hayward. Cam Hayward comes
out and he was terrific a nice job playing hard

(36:37):
playing that position. The three four, inside eye, outside eye,
whatever was going on, you know. I mean, he just
played very very well. And Larry Ogan Jobi, another guy,
Larry O got a couple of hits on Kirk Cousins.

Speaker 5 (36:49):
Man.

Speaker 4 (36:50):
I think our defensive line really played very very well
this past week.

Speaker 6 (36:56):
No, I thought the d line. I mean they tear
as Kirk Cousins and they did it at a very
high clip. I mean, yes, b John Robinson, he is
a special running back. I'm not going to take anything
from him, Wolf, But what that defensive line did to
that Falcons offense, which is Zach Robe Yes, yeah, it's

(37:18):
a really good offensive line. They bullied them at the
point of attack, at the in the backfield, they terrorized
Kirk Cousins, they terrorized b John Robinson. They really stemied
this group from really, you know, taking off. I mean,
there's a lot of expectations around this league, a lot
of buzz right about Kirk Cousins being in Atlanta, you know,

(37:40):
and and all the resources that they dedicated towards upgrading
this team. And I think this team will be good.
I think it'll be a formidable challenge. I can't wait
to see the NFC South, you know, as it unfolds,
especially with what Tampa Bay did in Week one, like
and the New Orleans Saints the way they beat the
drum on the Carolina Panthers. It's going to be really

(38:01):
interesting to see how the NFC South is going to
because I think there's three really good quarterbacks down there
and they're going to be dueling and it's and it's
only going to get better for Atlanta. But the problem
is the big brothers in the AFC North had something
to say about that, and I think that's that's one
where you say, hey, hey, good job. I'm sure you'll
get them Tiger. I'm sure you'll get them elsewhere, or

(38:23):
you'll get them falcon. There's a falcon, flies, flies high
in the sky, scoops down. But the problem is you
ran into some steel. And that's a problem. You never
run into steel. It's like bird running into a window.
You know it's freshly cleaned. But I think you know,
when you look at our defense, our defense just tenacious,
and there was waves of it to Wolf. It wasn't like,

(38:44):
oh my god, it was only our front line starters
doing things. Oh no, No, Montrevis Adams was dealing damage
to Marvin Leale dealing damage as well.

Speaker 7 (38:52):
Outside of cam And and.

Speaker 6 (38:55):
Larry and Keanu, they were giving them fits.

Speaker 7 (38:59):
And then hello, mister herbig right.

Speaker 6 (39:02):
You know, we saw a three linebacker look on some
of the sub package stuff, which I predicted Wolf, I
predicted we get it somehow, some way, and I love especially.

Speaker 7 (39:12):
I loved it because when you talk.

Speaker 6 (39:13):
About pass rush and wanting to hit it, when you
got TJ, Alex Nick and Eymon Adams in there, that's
a lot of speed. You have to remember, mon Adams
has the fastest ten yard split of all of our
defensive lineman on roster, So he's a guy quick and
get Yeah, he quick can get gone real fast. And

(39:35):
so when you have it out there, I mean, that
reminded me remember the NASCAR package that the New York
Giants used to have where they they'd get all like
their kind of pass rushing guys in and that would
be your four down and known passing situations. That's why
I kind of felt like this was like many NASCAR
and they were just and they were applying pressure, shooting
gaps and really making it uncomfortable for Kirk Cousins in

(39:58):
that contest.

Speaker 7 (39:59):
So I was really excited by watching their play.

Speaker 4 (40:01):
Yeah, absolutely, all right, you know what, We're gonna head out,
but the number is four one two nine one nine
one three one six. We're gonna start talking game balls.
We're gonna talk about what you want to talk about
right here in the locker room and you're listening to
the Steelers Audio Network.
