Tune-in for a full Training Camp Day 11 recap. We saw the team practice again in pads in some wet weather. It was more of a game prep type of practice as the team gets ready for their preseason game against the Houston Texans. Referees were in attendance and officiated the 11-on-11s period. Depth on the offensive line continues to be tested.  Find out who was missing, who returned, plays / players that stood out and more.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
This is the Patriots Training Camp Cast. The Patriots Training
Camp Cast is your source for all the news from
Patriots training Camp.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Well, I do still watch the news.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Practice is over, but the writers of Patriots dot com
have you covered?

Speaker 2 (00:19):
What did I miss yesterday?

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Now here to review today's practice? The writers of Patriots
dot com a.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Little bit of a change today might do so little
rain rain in the forecast here in Foxborough, a little
bit of some sloppy conditions. First time during the training
camp that we didn't get really picturesque, beautiful, perfect days.
So I thought, you know, in all seriestions, I thought
the weather had a little bit to do with the
state of the practice. I thought I saw some guys slipping,

(00:47):
some passes being dropped. Yeah, And I thought, you know,
Belichick talked about before practice about a lot of stressing
of fundamentals today, So some of those things ball security wise,
I'm sure he wasn't thrilled with. Also had the officials
on hand today, A lot of flags on the field,
a lot of wet flags on the field.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
All starts holds, yep.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
So I think from a fundamental standpoint, I think, you know,
Bill Belichick probably has a lot of stuff to go
over with the with the troops today. Yeah, I was surprised.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
I mean, I guess you shouldn't be surprised how many
balls hitting the ground, but it was sloppy throughout, a
lot of going through hands and you know, off people's hands,
those kind of things. But you know, overall at another
kind of uneven offensive practice.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
I don't want to choppy.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
I don't want to kill him too much because you know,
because of the weather and stuff, but just you know,
not very not very productive today overall. You know, we
saw some interesting kind of twists now with four string
quarterback Malie Cunningham getting some fourth string quarterback reps. We
know what he was in college, and you know, getting
a little work on that kind of stuff. Not really
sure why if that's part of their offense, if it's
going to be scout team things in the future, but

(01:51):
certainly interesting I think to see maybe the biggest takeaway
today just seeing him get some opportunities at quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yeah, I thought it was related to scout as you said, Mike,
you know, looked like they were running a lot of
plays off of cards, and you know this is you know,
a quasi game prep week. You know, I know, they
don't go full bore into the game planning for a
preseason game, but Houston's coming to town on Thursday. Belichick
talks a lot about the need to get guys at
least that base knowledge. You don't want to put him

(02:17):
out there completely blind to what the other team's going
to be doing. So I think that that was what
we saw from Malie Cunningham. And you saw it just
as you would think. You know, a lot of Reid
option type stuff, a couple of quarterback draws, some misdirection
bootlegs where he's looking to get on the edge, putting
some stress on the edge of the defense, you know,
making them make a decision. And he threw some balls

(02:40):
as well. So yeah, Malie cunning in probably the most
extensive snaps we've seen from him. Attendance wise, Still having
some issues on the offensive line, although David Andrews was
back today, but no Bill Murray, but Ty Montgomery, Matthew Slater,
Jonathan Jones, and Cole Strange also missing practice. A little
curious style about Slater in Jones, this is three practices

(03:01):
in a row. Now, I don't know if it's just
they're not really in the mix to play Thursday night,
so you're giving them some extended time off their feet.
But you know, certainly a lot of other guys that
probably aren't going to play much, if if at all, Thursday,
who are out there. So I don't know, just something
to keep an eye on.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Yeah, and we saw, you know, Trump Brown continues to
kind of come out and it seems like he's mostly watching.
I'm reading now he's speaking with the with the press
right as we're recording this said he is dealing with
with some kind of injury.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
So we'll see what develops there.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
And you know, col Strange was spotted walked out what
like three quarters the way through practice to watch the
end of it, had his helmet in hand, so he
saw on helmet in hand, no sleeve at all on
the leg. He looked like he was moving around pretty well. Yeah,
I mean, again, you know.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Doctor Perulo, hopefully it's positive.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
I mean, I also noticed after we recorded our podcast,
heesusally Mike Reese had said that that he had spotted
Calvin Anderson out watching yesterday's practice as well, So.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
He could be in the studio right now. Yeah, would
and neither would I.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
So I think that that's a positive sign. I just
think right now they're they're really scratching the bottom of
their depth here after practice eleven with their offensive line,
and you know, how are you gonna make it through
a preseason game. So I don't know if they have
to make a move, but hopefully they can get healthy sooner,
sooner than later.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah, I mentioned that we had the referees on hand,
and it looked like Land Clark his his crew. You know,
it was out here. You know, forgive me for not
looking up all the members of Land Clock's clue, I
do not. But he also had a guest today at practice.
Joe Mazoola, Celtics head coach, was out there with Bill Belichick.
They spoke extensively before the practice began.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
They sted the town in between a couple of yells.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Uh now. The fairmount of one on ones too before
they got into the team periods today. You know, I
thought the wide receivers weren't quite as productive as they
were the last time we saw one on ones, when
it seemed like every pass was being completed. I thought
that's where you saw the rain. Yeah, the rain I
think had something to do with There was some slipping

(04:57):
and definitely some drops. You know, Juju had a drop.
I think Kendrick Bourne had a couple, and Scotty Washington
had a couple. To Mario Douglas taekwon Thwharton. It looked
like pretty much everybody had at least one drop during
you know, the one on ones and then into the
full team. A lot of different down in distance today,
moving up and down the field, a lot of second

(05:18):
and third down work at the bulk of practice. Finished
up with some two minute stuff, some strange dividing up
of the reps. I thought at times it was all Mac,
and then it seemed to be shorter periods with Mac
and then longer with ZAPPI. So all told, it probably
worked out about the same, but just a little bit
of a wrinkle there.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Yeah, a couple guys just to highlight for me, I
thought Kendrick Bourne, other than the one you mentioned, had
a nice day.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
He was cut affact again.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
Yeah, nice day for him, maybe the best that he's
had thus far in camp. A couple guys just caught
my eye on the one on ones were a couple
of nice rushes by Aqualae, who's a guy that's a.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Little bit under the radar, but I think his past
rushing specialist. That's that's what he comes in on third
down for the interior.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Yeah, Barmore had had a real nice one on Cody
Russi and I thought City sal on the on the
out he struggled a little bit. Just you know, a
couple of highlights of the ones you're catching.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Yeah that McDermott did a good job on king on
White too, on one of the reps. I didn't watch minute.
You know, yeah, you got it. Then you catch some
of them. You guys do the offensive line if they're
doing the other especially when we have no offensive lineman.
I know that's true. It's quick true. Uh So Yeah,
I mean Nick Folk did all the kicking today. A
bunch of field goals, longer range ones for him too,
forty five, forty seven, fifty, Uh looked like he made

(06:26):
them all. There was one that we weren't quite sure
on first one from forty five. Wasn't it sure? But
it wasn't sure. Didn't really see the referee signal in time.
But yeah, he had he had a strong day kicking
the ball. Uh and again bad conditions, you know, fifty
yarders in the rain. You know that I don't care
what time of year it is. Those are not gimmes,
so that was a good sign to see they got
a little bit of a kicking competition. Yeah, with him

(06:48):
and Ryland's definitely got the stronger leg.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Interesting how they're doing it though, back to back days,
it's just you know, a choice. I mean, I guess
my instinct would usually be you want to see him
kickside by side and go back and forth. But they're
doing it day by day, you know, one more practice
tomorrow and then we're not really sure what we're going
to see. So tomorrow might be the last time we
really get a chance to get a look at how
those competitions go.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Yes, and Mike is right, that is tomorrow the scheduled
practice at one o'clock. Again, anybody listening, if you want
one last shot to get a chance to take a
look at the Patriots in training camp, that will be
your final opportunity. Well, definitely tomorrow will be our final
training camp cast as well. So it's amazing, you know,
like Bill says, you stacked the days, they go by

(07:29):
really quick, and it feels like groundhog day because it's
the same every single day. But they do go by
rather quickly and that's going to put a wrap on
Day eleven. One more to go from Foxborough
