Like so many of you, I'vebeen obsessed with the Doctor Death series on
Wonderre since the first episode dropped. We're all too familiar with these kinds of
stories, an out of this worldpersonality praise on the desperation of someone going
through the worst moment of their life, seeking answers, seeking help. But

(00:21):
what happens when that person providing theanswers is someone you're supposed to trust,
A doctor who promises hope, survival, a cure for AIDS. Wouldn't you
do anything he said to save yourselffrom wondery? Comes the newest season of
the renowned podcast Doctor Death, titleof Bad Magic. And this isn't just

(00:44):
some doctor. It's a famous one, a man with prominent celebrity endorsements,
a credible biotech business, a bigreputation, and yes, a quirky fascination
with magic. Don't miss this season, a story of deceased narcissism, humanity,
and murderer. I'm about to playa clip from Doctor Death, Bad

Magic. Follow Doctor Death Bad Magicon the Wondery app or wherever you get
your podcasts. It was late ona freezing Saturday night in northern Vermont.

(01:30):
Greg Davis was in his bedroom withhis wife Melissa, when they heard someone
outside. Greg opened the door andsaw a man standing there wearing a jacket
and mask with the emblem of theUS Marshal. He was holding a rifle.

(01:53):
Behind him in the driveway was awhite Ford Explorer with emergency lights flashing
in its dash. The Marshal saidhe had a warrant for Greg's arrest on
racketeering charges had been instructed to takehim into custody and transport him to Virginia.
Greg couldn't have known what this wasall about. He was working in

(02:14):
waste management. His friends and familyknew him as a father of six,
a businessman, and a devout Christian. He went to his bedroom and told
his pregnant wife what was happening, then packed a bag of clothes and walked
out. Davis's twelve year old sonwatched from the upstairs window as the car

(02:37):
pulled away. It was the lasttime he saw his father alive. The
next afternoon, a car made itsway along a quiet stretch of Peacham Road,
about fifteen miles from Greg Davis's farmhouse. It was another brutally cold day,

(03:00):
barely cracking ten degrees, just offthe side of the road, the
driver saw something out of place. It was a shape jutting out of the
snow bank. There on the ground, partially covered by snow, was a
man's body. His wrists were shackled, twenty two caliber bullet wounds in his

(03:22):
head and torso with bullet casing specklingthe snowbank. Greg Davis was dead.
How had all this happened? Prosecutorswould later claim it all traced back to
a man whose life had long beencloaked in mystery, and who was nowhere
near Vermont that night. Well, good afternoon, everyone, It is truly

(03:47):
my great pleasure to welcome Anokian Biosciences. Less than a year after Greg Davis's
body was found in the Vermont snow, the CEO of an emerging biotech company
stood at a sleek white lectern inTimes Square. The very first time I
met Ronestin lev Or chairman, hetold me, will be a Nasdaq listed
company. Anokian Bioscience is now tradedalongside tech giants like Apple and Microsoft,

(04:15):
But the CEO wasn't taking the credit. The success of the company was largely
thanks to a man who was standingjust offstage. The man with the ideas
that drove an Okian Biosciences to itssix hundred million dollar valuation. A man
with short dyed blonde hair, stubbleand an impish smile. The very first

(04:36):
time I met Sarah Kumruku, ourscientific founder, he told me, will
be the company that could put anend to HIV AIDS. Doctor sar hadkem
Ruche. At just thirty six yearsold, Doctor Sarha was leading a mission

(04:56):
to end HIV AIDS forever. Hewas also working on cures for cancer,
hepatitis B, and a host ofother diseases. His patients saw him as
a miracle worker. His colleagues comparedhim to Leonardo da Vinci, Nikola Tesla,
and Einstein in one and the sameperson. But in a few years
he wouldn't be known for world changingtreatments. He would be known as a

(05:20):
fraud and a key suspect in agrizzly murder binge. All episodes of Doctor
