Speaker 1 (00:01):
Great every company for another Saturday morning here on the
All Sport Breakfast on Wellington's News Talk z'd be Olympics
officially underway with the opening ceremony obviously a couple of
the bits and pieces like the football and the rugby
seven's already been going on the last couple of days.
But it's really exciting. Don't forget Gold Sports with all
your live commentary fifteen oh three am and Wellington or

(00:22):
anywhere Crystal Clear on iHeartRadio, through your app or your computer.
It's going to be big one tonight at all getting
underweight from late afternoon early evening our time. Can't wait.
Talking local football now though, well football up and down
the country featuring clubs because the Chatham Cup around New
Zealand is into the quarter finals stage this weekend. One

(00:42):
Wellington team, two teams from the Central League still in
the final eight. So let's have a look at these
games now. As always, Dale Warburton, our local football analyst,
is with us. Morning to you, Dale, Well let's go
to the one game in Wellington today and that is
Wellington Olympic Coincidentally enough was just reading up the only
team is returning from the quarter finals last year that

(01:03):
are back in the quarter finals this year, so quite
significant for them. They've got Monday work from Auckland at
Wakefield Park at two this afternoon. What do you make
of this one?

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Well, it sounds like you've done more research than I have. Yeah,
Almvik sit on top of the Central League. We said,
I've had thirteen ons and just the one lost this season,
so go pretty well so far. They've they won the
cham Cup one one time a couple of about early
two thousand and nine or we're about and I reckon
as you say, I think they're probably be a pretty
good chance of repeating it with a few more fancied

(01:34):
teams being bundled out earlier. So they've got to this
phase with windsor o C two Western Suburbs and stop
out and yet too considered in the Cup their opponents
meanwhere they're in the Northern Northern League, which is the
Upper North North Island that's at ninth in the twelve
team competition with just four wins this season, so they're

(01:56):
not doing particularly well in the league. Despite doing well
in the Cup. They required extra time to beat only
Hungo Mungo, who play in the division below them, so
they're not in particularly a great form either, and I
guess for Olympic they'll want to be looking up for
Ibert Adam Medez, who seems to be their main goal
threat with eleven goals this season. But you'd think Olympic
should be too strong for in that fixture.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
All right, Yeah, that one other way, two o'clock this
afternoon in Wakefield Park number two if you want to
get along to the only game being played in our
region and at the Chatham Cup quarterfinals this weekend. Let's
got through some of the other games Dale. Let's start
up in Auckland's Auckland's High Biscus Coasts on the shore.
They're up against christ Churches Coastal Spirit.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Yeah, interesting game this one night. I don't think at
the start of the season you'd have these two teams
in the quarter finals they alone facing each other. Coastal
Spirit is down in christ Church their second in the
Southern League there ahead of more fancied teams are like
Kashmir Tech, and they're unbeaten the league. They've had ten
wins and three jaws so far. Coast of Spirit the

(02:58):
club is just stablished in two thousand and seven of
the merger between two long established clubs. New Brighton Rangers
AC haven't had much success in the Chatham Cup as
a new entity. In and three seasons they've made the
last sixteen, but I never made the quarter finals. They
managed to Alst Kashmi Tech along the way and required

(03:19):
extra time to beat Fairy Meads in the previous round,
eventually winning five three inch a time. Whereas the Cisco,
there's six in the division in the second Division Aukland,
the one below the National League. Since two thousand they've
only made the round of sixteen one, so they haven't
really had a strong showing and then the Cup at all.
They did roll over Melbourne United her in the National

(03:39):
League one in the in the round before and I
guess for them they've their main goal scorers Aaliejandro Steinwitzer
who's racked up fifteen goals this season, so he'll be
their main outlet, you'd think, but probably Coastal Spirit would
be the fat ones there.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
All right, let's continue through these games today, quarter finals
of the Chatham Cup. This one interesting. It's down in Deneeded,
it's under lights from six o'clock tonight, Otago University hosting
the powerhouse of Auckland CITYFC.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Yeah, really interesting game, this one Otaga University there. They're
in the second division down in South Island, so one
below the Southern Southern League where Coastal Spirit plays, so
they've done well to get out of there so far.
They had through the quarterfinals with od City who play
in that Southern League, so they've had a couple of

(04:29):
upsets along the way. They haven't had much history in
the Cup looking back since two thousand. They've made the
round of sixteen just in twenty fourteen and made the
quarters just once and a couple of years ago in
twenty twenty one, where they lost to more Sean penalties.
They tend to share their goals around and they've had
thirteen different goal scorers this season, with the top scorer
only scoring four. But even our home against our Auckland City,

(04:53):
as you say, a powerhouse they wanted back in turn
twenty twenty two and a top of the National league.
So despite the travel down there, you think Auklan City
should should do to the business under lights all right, I've.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Been wrapping up the Action Dale, the only other Central
League team still in the Chatham Cup in the final
late Napier City Rovers there at home up in Hawk's
Bay tomorrow afternoon against Burkenhead lighted from Auckland's north shore.
What do you reckon here?

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Yeah? Probably the game game of the round. I think
both sides sitting second in their respective leagues. Birkenhead in
the Northern Premier League they won through to this round
with penalties went over Western Suburbs finished nine to eight
on penalty, so a bit of a good one to watch.
There a couple of main goal threats for them, Monty
Patterson who's a couple of times played for the All

(05:40):
Whites and had a short stint at the Phoenix as well,
and Sam Phillips there they scored most of their goals.
They've had a bit of history and recently they won
it twice in twenty sixteen, in twenty eighteen. Nape City
Rovers long standing. What is that they've had? They won
it five times, the last back in nineteen So both

(06:00):
have pretty good records and overall in and the Chatterer
Cup wouldn't surprise the earth. This one is one that
kind of goes to extra time or penal. You'd expected
to be a pretty close encounter, all.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Right, Well, sounds like one. To keep an eye on
that one two o'clock tomorrow afternoon at blue Water and
Hawks Bay Dale. Appreciate your time as always well chat
Central League next weekend, but enjoy your big weekend of football. Yeah,
look for talk to you then cheers Dale at Warburton
with our football here on the All Sport Breakfast. Women's
Central League is back today. By the way, the Kate
Shepherd knockout Women's Cup there into the semi finals, but

(06:32):
that's still about three weeks away. In mid August. The
Wellington Phoenix women are still in the final four of
that one, but Central League Women's will continue across the weekend.
Games today will feature Parmeston North Marit against Taradale, Victoria
University up against Waterside, Carrori and Seatoon are hosting Motturoa.
The round got underway last night with Wellington United up

(06:53):
against for Tony. For more from News Talks b listen
