Speaker 1 (00:00):
The weekends.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Finally here let's kick it off the All Sport Breakfasts
with ruther Than and Bond Toyota and King Toyota. US
talk Zedvy this looks at me on the All Sport Breakfast.
We're talking far a Palmer carp at Rugby. Now, Wellington
Pride are two from three to start the new season.
The next home game against North Harbor at pottido A
Park tomorrow afternoon. Let's head into the camp now and
we're joined by Vice Captain, very experienced member of the
(00:23):
Wellington and Pride for us, my keyth C. Morning to you,
fars s Well. Two from three. Everyone happy with how
the team's gone so far overall?
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Yeah, really good. I mean it's it's a great bunch
of people in the squad this year. I think, a
really good mixture of you know, experience, and then we've
got some really exciting young talent coming through in the campaign.
So we're feeling good. I know it was a bit
disappointing last week, but I think what it did was
give us an opportunity to highlight some key focus series
for this week preparation going into Sunday.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Yeah, and so what have some of those focus areas been.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
I think some of the key workers and messages coming
from last week was just breaking around our defensive strategies
and probably probably just capitalizing on our opportunities a bit better.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Yea. Indeed, you mentioned obviously there's there's a good mix
of young and experienced players in this team. You're obviously
on that experienced size. Tell us from a leadership perspective,
how you have tried to contribute through the season as
vice captain.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Oh yeah, I mean right from the start. You know,
when I heard that I'd be back to the Wellington
prior after being away for two years, it was really
exciting talking to coach for se just talking about what
I could contribute, and I think what was big for
me was just coming into to help mentor the younger
ones coming through and help develop them to find their
(01:44):
place in the game and just get them to build
their confidence as well.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
And obviously a key role for you and everyone on
the back line is ensuring the tries get scored and
well Wellington pride. I see something second overall in the
whole competition in terms of tries being scored twenty two
through the first few games. To be happy with that, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
We're pretty happy, Yeah, pretty stoked.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
What's behind a good team in this competition? Do you
think fars through when you've got you know, players that
are spending some time playing professionally and others who like
yourselves at the back and at the end of the
year playing provincial rugby. You know what is key to
being successful in the fart Apartment Cup do you think?
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Well? I mean a big thing a part of this Pride,
which I'm really supportive of, is just getting our community
back together and involved as much as possible. We've got
a lot of support and we can really feel the
love from everyone out there that's behind us, which is great.
Big focus is also just on the well being of
players and how can we support players and being their
(02:43):
best selves both on and off the field, which I
think is awesome.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Yeah. Great, And there's players like yourself that have been
there for a long time. Tell us about that. The
passion for Wellington and the Pride and the team for
the Jersey every week.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Yeah, yeah, it means a lot to me the killer personally. Yeah,
it has been a really long time playing for Wellington
Pride and we're in the Jersey. Just it's about you know,
doing your best in the jersey, but also making it
better and leaving it in a better position for the
next person who'll come up to fill it.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
So yeah, yeah, indeed, I say you're on the bench
this weekend, how do you sort of prepare differently for
more of an impact role rather than starting?
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Yeah, I mean, not much changes, to be honest. The
preparation is still the same, regardless of you know, coming
off the bench or starting, or how many minutes I get.
It'll just be around preparing their starting team as well
in the warm up and making sure that they're mentally
answersically prepared as best they can be for the game exactly.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
North Harbor, what do you know about them? Obviously they've
sort of put a few points on the board, especially
recently in their last couple of games. So how do
you prepare for a team that you know can get
across the trial?
Speaker 1 (03:53):
I mean they'm want Yeah, Look, I think North Harbour's
going to be a really good matchup for US, hope
a bit more even than last week. But I've got
a couple of mates in that team that I'm really
looking forward to coming up against. I think they've got
some really dominant backs that we'll need to be paid
for and wan to Courtney and even in the forwards
(04:14):
with Monel, I think there'll be people look out for.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yeah, indeed, And across all your years plaguing, does it
ever get easier juggling all the commitments because I know
you and the Pride are training in the evenings, You've
all got jobs and you know, family friends to obviously
spend with you your lives as well. I mean, tell
us about the challenge of just sort of making it
all come together.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yeah, I mean, it's a big challenge of women's rugby, right.
It's definitely come a long way since since my early
days starting playing provincial rugby, but still got a wee
way to go. Obviously, there's a you know, we've got
working moms trying to juggle kids as well as work,
trying to get to trainings. But you know, everyone has
a really good attitude towards it. We work really well
(04:57):
alongside all of our other commitments, and you know, we've
got a management who's really understanding of the position that
we're in.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
So yeah, yeah, well, yeah totally, and we all know this.
There's a lot more to be done in that space.
For you, what is the sort of big next step
that would turn another corner and the development of the
women's game.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Well, that's a really good Christian you know. I think
you know, from the Union, I think already what we've
heard is there's some really great steps already in the
right direction to try and really rebuild the structure of
how Wellington's going with rugby through you know, CEO, Tony
(05:40):
and all of the team up there. I think what's
cool for us is that we you know, we're really
fortunate to get some good facilities this year in terms
of training grounds and you know what's really cool about
not playing at the stadium and playing at you know,
places of potted or park for home games is that Yeah,
like I said before, we can get themmunity back and
(06:01):
asvolved as possible. You know, it's much more accessible for
families to come to our games, which is great. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Great. And the game tomorrow is on Father's Day, obviously
important to the day for everyone's wide and Finnore. You're
expecting nice crowd and lots of support there from the
sidelines this weekend.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
Yeah, I'm hoping so. I know it's a hard one
to juggle on Father's Day, but hopefully all the dads
can come down as well, and hopefully it's just as
we rerewarding for them. It's hard today to come and
watch the girls have a crack at it.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
So yeah, yeah, awesome. Hey, well all the very best
of us, So thanks so much for chatting. Really appreciate
it and all the best as you continue through the
season and hopefully another went under the Wellington Prides belts
on Sunday afternoon. Really appreciate your time.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Thanks Sanna, We have a good day you too.
