Speaker 1 (00:00):
Wellington's All Sport Breakfast with Adam Cooper. Thanks to Rutherford
and Bond Toyota and King Toyota on News Talks, it'd
be twenty nine away from at on the Ollsport Breakfast.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Let's take you straight to Club Crickets and look ahead
to hopefully touch on some weekends action. Matt Wilson is
the head of Competitions at Cricket Wellington.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Morning too, your matts morning.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
How are we going, Adam?
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Yeah, good, Matt, I'm it's been another busy week for you.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Just that spring weather not not letting things go completely
to plan.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Yeah, we're just we're just kind of edging towards that line,
I guess you could say. So that's all about getting
our grass, our grass wickets up and running for for
our top grades. And some are ready and some are
not quite there. So it is causing a little bit
to have it with our scheduling both at senior and
junior level because it does have a bit of a domino.
(00:48):
So we'll be we'll be there, might not might not
be full noise this week, but hopefully for next week
week and we can be full noise, but the show
goes on anyway.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Absolutely it does indeed, and the shows underway for the
summer for premiere women's cricket TEA twenty's got on the way.
Last week he met how did things pan out in
Round one?
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Firstly, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
No, good first round and thankfully we got through the
whole day and uninterrupted, which was great. First game last
week was North City against Collegians to kick us off
at Lyndon Park for the women in North City, really
continuing where they left off last year, having had a
very good season and pushing to Tony Riverside all the way.
(01:29):
They had a very dominant win against Collegians in their
first game, winning that by nine wickets. They bowled Collegians
out to seventy one and chased it down fairly comfortably,
so good first win for North Jabil were up against
City Suburbs and Jabil for many going into the season
with quite a young side, we didn't didn't really know
what to think, but they came out with an impressive win.
(01:50):
First up one hundred and twenty five to three. They
posted in their twenty overs and they bowled out City Suburbs.
Who knew did Division one this year, but certainly with
a strong side bowled them out for eighty one, so
good win there for Javil to kick their season off,
and finally the champions to Tony defending champions. They ended
up getting home fully comfortably against Upper Hearts, so they
(02:11):
won that by seven seven wickets. They're bowling up out
for one hundred and seven. Sorry they didn't bowl them
out uphol one hundred and seven before, excuse me, and
Tony chasing it down and winning by seven wickets. So
that was a good first round for the ladies with
a couple of wins that we expected and one that
maybe we didn't. But yeah, some good first round matchups
(02:34):
onto today if the weather holds. Of course, we've got
another good round in round two. So Javill they're up
against Potni, so both teams coming off off wins in
round one. Javi will certainly be looking to test their
young side up against the defending champs. North City they're
up against our parts. That one's at Lyndon Park and
Collegiance they are up against City suburbs at Anderson Park
(02:57):
at their lovely botanical gardens. So some really good round
two matchups wait today.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Yep indeed, And as you say, Matt Fingers, crossed for
the weather men's competition obviously into the fifty over formats
now a couple of weeks in a lot of well
you give us an update on where things are out
for did one, Matt?
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Yeah? So div one you and Chatfield Trophy round one
last week, so it some really good games to kick
us off. A bit of a run fest at Mirramar Park.
Of course all the men's games got shifted art officials
when we knew we weren't going to get on grass
last week. So we're out at Mirrama for Hut Heart
District vic Uni and vic Uni batting first made two
hundred and fifty one and then reply Hut Districts getting
(03:34):
home by four wickets there to kick their season off
Peace Cup champs, so they'll be happy there with with
getting the points tighter. They were up against Corori at
Fraser This was sort of polar opposite a little bit
of a lower scoring affair. Tighter making one hundred and
sixty six sport out and Corori in reply were bowled
out for one hundred and twenty eight, so a good
(03:54):
first when they're for Tighter as well. Normal service sort
of resuming there a little bit in Division and Eastern
Suburbs and Onslo this was the big one. Really good
first innings from East made two hundred and seventy four
to ten with some really good batting performances and on
a lot of other days you think there'd be enough. However,
Onslow out of the traps, brilliant batting performance and chase.
(04:15):
They made two hundred and seventy eight for four, winning
by six wickets, so Onslow be wrapped to get that
winning Round one certainly a little bit of an upset,
you'd think, based on the way Easts have started their season.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
All right and Division two yeah, and.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
The Haslets so again some good first round in the matchups.
Johnsonville were up against Upper Heart and this was the
thriller at alex Moore. It was a tie both teams
two hundred and fifty eight last ball run out by
all accounts couldn't quite get home Johnsonville, so yeah, two
hundred and fifty eight played two fifty eight for a
(04:51):
tie in round one. So thrilling stuff there. Patni they
were up against North at Sladon Park that one going
to p Tony by six wickets and nine I were
up against Winoli at nine I Parks and nine I
scraped home there with a thirteen run win over Winery
Onto today and it's p Tony against nine I at
(05:12):
Tony Reck Johnsonville. They've got Winolia Marta at alex Moore
Park and Upper there up against North City at Bartonovle.
So some really good second round matchups to look forward
to today across the board.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Yeah, looking forward to it and we'll have some of
those score updates and results through the afternoon here on
news Talks there'd be Matt, appreciate your time as always,
thanks for fitting us in in between all your other
rearrangements you've had to make, and hopefully we're chadding some
more grass wickets next week.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Absolutely thanks Adam.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Cheers cheers Matt Wilson, Head of Competitions at Cricket Wellington
and good news this morning as well. Can I report
all junior cricket is on. Obviously the conditions aren't perfect,
but no rain falling around the region. Reporters that grass
is feeling dry underfoot, so the first weekend of junior
cricket the green light has been given underway. I'm sure
there might have been some parents though, hoping that they
could stay home and watch the All Blacks at nine am.
(05:59):
But anyway, Junior cricket is on this morning around Wellington
so far, which is good news for weekend one of
junior cricket for the summer.
