Speaker 1 (00:00):
From River Rugby and wrong Attide to the Hurricanes. It's
sky Stadium. We've got it covered on the All Sport.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Breakfast with Rutherford and Bond, Toyota and King Toyota News
Talk Senby twenty to eight. Here on the All Sport Breakfast,
we're continuing looking ahead to some of the local sport
being played around the Wellington region this weekend. Club Cricket
next on the list. Matt Wilson is the head of
Competitions at Cricket Wellington is with us now.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Morning to you, Matt morning, how are we going? Yeah? Good? Thanks?

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yeah, pretty frustrating last week, wasn't it.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Matt.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Let's start by talking the women's competition. We'll recap some
of those results from last week. But a pretty exciting
well venue allocation to talk about this week too.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Yeah yeah, absolutely, yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Last week was no good unfortunately, with all three games
being abandoned due to the weather through what was Thursday,
Friday and into Saturday. Very very wet weekend unfortunately.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
But it's looking a lot more positive for today.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
And yes we are at the Basin Reserve for one
of our women's fixtures today between Upper Hut and City Suburbs.
So great opportunity for those ladies to get out on
the Challowbasin Reserve and struct their stuff with bat and ball.
So that will be an exciting, yeah opportunity and for

(01:11):
people to potentially come along and see some community cricket
at the basin today. And that one's starting off a
little bit earlier than the normal eleven o'clock start time.
It'll be a nine to thirty am start this morning
for that game between Upper Heart and City Suburbs and
the other two fixtures we're at Potoni Wreck for Patoni
against North City.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
That is a big game between the.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Two probably top teams in the grade at the moment
based on the last couple of years and current personnel
and form, So really big one there at Patni Rec
number one today and Johnsonville they're up against Collegiates and
that is at Carrori Park at eleven am as well.
So it's really some really good games today, but definitely

(01:54):
the headline is that one that will be taking a
place here at the Challow based Reserve.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Yeah, great man, And I know we talked at the
start of the sea and that's happening a little bit
more regularly across the cricket season for the community game,
isn't it. It's certainly fantastic and I'm sure been received
very well by the cricket and community.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
Absolutely, you know, that's that's always the always the aim
in the community spaces to get as many club games
on the basin as we can obviously when it's available.
There's a lot of other commitments that we have to
honor in and around that with domestic and international games
on as well as other community initiatives and festivals.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
But you know, Club Cricket.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Does need to stay front and center in many ways
and the more games we can get get on the
base and the better. So the women obviously today are
out there too of our teams and we've got a
final there later in January which I've mentioned before that'll
be great to the T twenty final, and the men
right at the end of the season will get out
on the on the Charlie Basin reserve for the PS
Cup final as well. So it's it's it's a really

(02:50):
good season for Club Cricket gaining access to our number
one venue in the Homer Cricket in New Zealand.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Absolutely, I couldn't agree with you more Matt and of
course match coming in less than two weeks which is
very exciting. Right, let's gone to men's Division one Club Cricket, Matt.
How many games were able to take place last weekend?

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Yeah? So unfortunately, like the women, the men in Division
one the EU and Shaftfield Trophy.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Now games are we able to proceed there due to
the weather all were abandoned between the six sides.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
So that was round three. We move on to round
four today. It is East who.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
Are currently bottom of the ladder, yet to register a win,
so they'll be mightily keen to get off the mark.
They're up against top of the table though and Tighter
who have so far won their opening two games.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
So that one is at.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Kilbernie Park at ten point thirty. Onslow they're up against
vic Uni at Nianville Park. Both teams one win a
piece and one loss a piece, so that should be
a tight one at Nionville that coming off a good
win against East in round two. And Karrori they're up
against Hut District. That one at Krory Park again. Last

(03:55):
time out Karrori we came off a good win against
Onslow at home Hut they were defeated by tighter, so
in saying that all our teams in Division one are
on one win a piece outside of the East and tighter,
so it's still very tight early on. So some really
good games in Division one today, to get along and
have a look if you have.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
The time, Indeeds and some score updates on z'd be
through the afternoon as well if you're out and about
in the car too listening and Matt what about doubt
of the division and Division two?

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Yep in Division two and haslot so last week they
were fortunate to get out there. Two of the three
games went ahead in the hazlet which was great as
we as we see with our little micro climates in Wellington,
some areas do manage miraculously to get out there and
some don't. We had Patoni against Winery last week, very
low scoring game. They did have to wait till sort

(04:45):
of mid afternoon before getting out on the wicket.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Up to Tony. But a bit of a shock result here.
Why know we defeating Patni by eight wickets.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Patoni will bold out for eighty and then reply, why
I know you're getting home fairly comfortably?

Speaker 1 (05:00):
Five wickets to Callum Macinus for Winery as.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
Well, so good performance from him with the ball on
a wicket that sounds like was doing quite a bit
early early on this season. And then the other game
it was out at Lindon Park, North City. We're up
against Johnsonville in North City. Got home in that one
by forty seven runs against j Vill. So good win
for North last week and as I say, great that
two of those games did manage to get underway and

(05:23):
complete it on what was a very challenging day weatherwise.
Looking ahead to today Round four North they're up against
Winery at London Park nine I they are back at
home again against Johnsonville at nine I Park on the
Ew and Chatfield Oval and Upper Heart they're back at
home at bard And Oval for TONI traveling up there
to play Upper Hearts.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
So some exciting games and has again today as well.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Wonderful Matt. Well, appreciate that you're fitting us in as
always with all the logistical challenge that spring weather brings
to the cricket schedule. So here's hoping for a great
weekend Sam. We'll catch up again next week absolutely Thanks Adam.
