Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's kick start though as we always do through the
summer months and Chap Bowls. Jason Puddock back in the
studio Morning.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Jays Morning Coops.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
Right, well, we're going to recap in a bit of
interesting happenings over the last couple of weeks. Let's start
with the Power Bowls Wellington Championships. Have got some champions
to announce.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Yeah, so last week was in all Rural Bowls Wellington,
New New New Zealand Community Trust Power Bowls. Event went
quite successfully. We played the singles on Saturday. That was
everyone played four games and they took the top four
across the group. We saw three of the outsiders making
those semi finals along with Peter Horn from nine to
(00:37):
I who was the fourth semi finalist and Pete won
his semi final twelve eleven which was great and that
set up a rematch of the New Zealand Power Champs
in christ Church recently against Darren Woollen and unfortunately the
result was the same with Darren running out of sixteen
to ten winner over Hooksey in that game. On Sunday
(00:58):
we had the pears so we played a robin. There
was six matches across the day. Sorry, five matches across
the day. No one won all five games, which was
quite good. We had two teams with four out of
five wins and that was Darren Wallon and Chen Nord
and Adrian Brown and Richard Warwick of silver Stream and
(01:19):
Darren and Chen ended up winning that one on a
differential countback, with Adrian and Richard finishing second, which was
a great result for those two guys.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Cool And I know the overall power Bowls scene is
a real focus of Bowles Wellington at the moment, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Yeah, certainly, just another area that we want to improve
and offer more competitions for those that are involved in that.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Great all right. Also, we've had the Oceania Challenge up
in Auckland. You let us know last week some of
the Wellington reps and that I see there were quite
a few surprising maybe and really interesting decide is there.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah, So yeah, a handful of Wellington players up there
which is great to see and great to see some
medals being brought back from that, so picking up bronze
medals over that competition. We had Ben King playing for
Tonga and the men's fours and his wife Helen King
also playing for Tonger picking up a bronze and the
women's furs silver medals. We went to finn Bar mcgwiggan
(02:15):
and Seamus Curtain for the New Zealand Under twenty sixteen.
Now that was a great final if you saw that
on sky Sport against Tokalao, one of the smaller I
guess are the country. I guess it was associated with
New Zealand. I've only got twenty two hundred inhabitants in Tokalo,
so they end up winning it. I think Seamus and
(02:36):
Finbar might be a little bit disappointed there. There were
six to one up in the first set and lost
seven to six and eight two up in the second
set and drew that eight all which gave the gold
medal to Tokalal. So great for Tokalo. We have a
lot of Tokalal bowlers within our community in Wellington and
they were pretty happy. We also saw Jordan Keene in
the New Zealand Under twenty six men's triples team picking
(02:57):
up a silver medal. Again a rarely tight contest. Theory's
Australia in that final came down to essentially the last
end in a tiebreaker, all square. New Zealand held a
shot and Cohen Lifton from Australia, who was the recent
runner up in the Australian Open Singles this year, set
out the New Zealand Boulder win the gold medal for Australia.
(03:18):
It's a really tight game there and we got a
gold medal and that was Lisa White playing for the
Atro Maori women's fours team, which is great to see
for Lisa. She's been around a long time and she
sent me won a lot of events, so it's great
to see her pick up a gold medal.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Wonderful congratulations a Lisa and everyone for the medals there.
Right back into things locally with ames of Club Jay's
this weekend. What is it round five now?
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Yeah, Dynasty Sport into Club Round five this morning. So
in the Woman, we've got Plymouton hosting Upper Hut Stakes.
Valley traveled to Mirima and that's one versus three, Platoni
Central hosting Tawa, Silver Stream hosting Victoria and that's two
verses four. So again we're geting all these top four
clashes like we've had in the last few weeks. But
(04:01):
for me, Match of the Day for the Woman will
be Johnsonville versus nine eight Johnson in fifth place, just
outside the top floor nine ninth place, again a place
we're not used to seeing them, but both these teams
at this stage would normally be in the top four.
So it's a big day I think for nine I
to go to Johnsonville and try and get a win
and keep themselves in the chance of actually making that
(04:23):
top four. And in that matchup there we'll see car
and Guildford go up against Kenny Critchlow and the Single
so a very tight game then.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Okay, looking forward to those and across on the men's
some similarly exciting matchups.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Yeah. So and the men we've got Tawa traveling to
nine I Johnsonville are hosting Island Bay Miramar against POTTONI
Central and Lyell Bay against Plymoton. So that's the battle
of the carpet clubs there. But match of the day
for me and the men's is Victoria versus Stakes Valley,
so Victorian fourth place, Stakes Valley in first place. Big
(05:00):
matchups there we see Ray Martin going up against Fimbar
mcgwiggan and the singles, and Ben King up against Blake's
Signal and the Skip in the fours and again those
two are probably some of the best skips around in
the center at the moment.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Great, all right, and all that action through the day, Well,
I have some results through the afternoon here on news talks.
There'd be once things coming because the weather there is
looking good, which is great. And I know, Jase, you
guys want to just get the word out for some
events coming up that people should be aware of.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Yeah, so we've got a couple of events closing on Monday.
We have the over sixties pairs. Now that's any combo
so two men, two women mixed, whatever you choose, So
if you haven't entered that yet, certainly get your name
down before Monday. And the Willing to Open Singles also
closes on Monday. At the moment, I think we've got
roughly one hundred men and forty odd women, still room
(05:50):
to get that number up. I think we had one
hundred and thirty two men last year and sixty odd women,
so we'd like to see those numbers certainly increase over
the weekend.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Great, all right, we'll get your entries in. All the
details will be on the Bowls Wellington website and social
channels ICEM.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
YEP, Yeah, just jump on the website. There's an entry
form on the air and you just fill that and
it's pretty pretty easy.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
There we go. All right, big weekend of hits and
plenty going on, so jas. Thanks for bringing us the
rapp as always, We'll catch you again next week.
