Speaker 1 (00:00):
Beautiful day ahead for club cricket. Let's get a preview
(00:02):
as always Matt Wilson, as head of Competitions at Cricket Wellington.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Morning, Matt, good morning Adam. How are we?
Speaker 1 (00:07):
I'm really good? Thanks well, so much cricket to talk
about on many levels. Matt's let's go to Men's one
Premier Club cricket first. Yeah, just let us know where
things sits on the back of last week.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Yeah for sure. So last week was Round four and
thankfully the weather was nice enough to have a full
round played with no interruptions. And yeah, as I was
saying the preview, looks like we're going to be the
same today. But last week Eastern Suburbs were up against Tighter,
a big game, a clash of two pretty big, big
(00:40):
size in Division one. In recent years, Eastern Suburbs had
yet to register a win, but thankfully they did pick
up a win last week and managed to get over
get up over Tighter in that one bowling Tighter out
for one hundred and ninety three. They had made two
to sixing so won that narrowly there by thirteen runs
(01:03):
special mentions in that game, Henry Wells making sixty two
for East, Will green Wood picking up fifty eighth for
Tighter with the bat and Alex mcgashlyan he got three
wickets for East, so good wins East and I'll be
glad to get off the board on the board there
with a win against against Tighter. Onslow up against Vick
Uni and that one. Onslow got the win near by
(01:24):
seven wickets over Vic to carry on what's been a
fairly good start for them this season. Mickey Conroy with
a fifty picked up fifty four with the bat and
that one and Krori in Hut District that one going
the way of Karrory. They made two hundred and seventy
one for nine and they bowled heart District out for
one hundred and fifteen which actually put Carory top of
(01:45):
the table on run rate over Tighter. So Carory will
be wrapped with that after four rounds to be sitting
top of the pile. And special mentions in that game,
Liam Roach made sixty five with the bats. Kayla Montague
fifty for Heartbee at the top of the order and
Louis has picked up a five for five for thirty three.
Some great figures there from him with the ball for Karori,
(02:06):
so Division one looking good as we head into round
five today. Still very tight. It seems like most teams
are packing up wins against each other and there hasn't
really we haven't seen a gap established yet between anyone,
which is great what you want in a competition the
(02:27):
top end. So today vic Uney are up against Karrori
that one's at Calvin Park. Heart District there against Easts
at hut Wreck one. Heart District will be glad to
get on hut Wreck for the first time this season,
so that's good to go and tighter. They're up against
Anslow down the road from Hutreck at Fraser Park. So
some really big games in the EU and Chatfield Trophy today.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
Great Sam. What about down a division matt.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Yep Division two in the Haslet Again a really tight
competition there as well, with not a lot to separate
most sigh. Last week North City they were up against
Wanuia Marta and they picked up the win. They're comfortably
over them. Special mentions for North City Sam Milmo. He
picked up fifty one with the bat there and rolling
(03:13):
back the years as he seems to do most seasons
at certain points. Craig Foster picking up forty seven with
a bat for Wanui. Nine I played Johnsonville in that one.
That was a tight affair, going down to pretty much
the last the last over. Nine I got home with
three bulls to spare. Johnsonville had made two hundred and
four all out and two hundred and seven for six.
(03:35):
As I said, getting home with three three bulls to spare.
Ethan Goddard and Muhammad Jawad had a good partnership at
the top of the order for nine Eye to get
to get their chase underway, Ethan making sixty four and
Muhammad making forty seven, so they'll be rapped with a
win there. Nine I will against j Vill. And the
final game was up a Hut against Potoni and p Tony.
(03:57):
They've had a difficult couple of weeks. In the the
Upper Heart made two hundred and sixty six to seven
and comfortably winning that one. They bowled Patni out for
just sixty eight. Some really big performances from Upper Hut
and that one Sam Morgan he made ninety seven with
the bat, supported well by the skipper Bavik Pattel with
fifty one, and Charlie Wilson picked up figures of four
(04:18):
for fifteen in lockey Baby three for nine, So some
really good performances from Upper Huts and that one which
actually puts them top of the Haslet Trophy as it stands,
and they'll be looking to push on today. They traveled
to Wainui to play at brian Heath Park. First game
for the Wainui Prims on brian Heath today, so they'll
be stoked to have their first home game of the season.
(04:40):
Jayville there at home at Alexmore Park against Potoni. North
City at home on Linden Park against nine I. SOO,
some some top games today and Haslet as well.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Yeah, wonderful. All right, some interesting results there from last
weekend across in the women's competition, Matt would have where
you got to the moment there?
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Yep. So in the women's com we're still playing forty overs.
Last week saw some really good games and we start
with what was the thriller at the Cello Basin Reserve
between Upper Hut and City Suburbs. City Suburbs batted first,
making one hundred and eighty one and in reply Upper
Heart fell just five runs short one hundred and seventy six.
(05:18):
All out fantastic game. Of cricket at the Cello Basin
Reserve in Women's Division one last week j Justice Fashion
and Caitlyn Ives. They got things off to good stuff.
City Suburbs at the top of the order was a
twenty eight to thirty four, respectively, and in response there
was some good middle order batting from Natasha Chadra, Sophie Telfer,
Christine Blunden and Beth Trethway for Upper Hut, but they
(05:42):
couldn't quite get over over the line. So Yeah, City
Stubburs will wrapped with that one. There at the Iconic Venue.
North City were up against Tony. That was the big one,
the clash of the two probably favorites this year and
they have been tuffling over the last couple of seasons
at the top of the table. North City getting an
emphatic when they're They bowled Tony out the defending champions
(06:02):
for ninety eight and they got home comfortably by six wickets,
so North City will be wrapped to get the w
in that one. Performances Bree James and Emma Parker. They
both made some runs, Bree with twenty nine and Emma
with twenty three. Rachel Bryant figures for four to twelve
for North City and Ashley Henderson made forty eight with
(06:23):
the bats for North and that one and johnson Villa
up and up against Collegians at Carrori Park and a
comfortable win for Johnsonville and the ends over Collegians there.
Andy Verma probably the performance of the round across men's
and women's cricket. She made one hundred and fourteen with
the bats per performance from her Dridi Gerri she got
four for twenty seven with the ball, and Anna Martin
(06:46):
she made forty with the bats along with some notable
runs for Lily Campbell and the cole beat Collegiance which
unfortunately proved in vain in the ends for them. Today
another round of one day crack at forty overs for
the women. It's actually a festival weekend, so we've got
all the games at Karori Park today for the women
in Division one and all the games at Karori Park
(07:08):
for Division two tomorrow, so it's going to be a
really good weekend for the ladies all round and celebrating
women's cricket here in the Capitol. Today North City are
up against Johnsonville Collegians against Upperhart and City Suburbs. They
play per TONI. So some really exciting games in the
women's women's division one today and tomorrow. So if you
can get along to Corory Park, all right.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Yeah, interesting games, get along if you're around there and
they head up for some enjoyable cricket where they're looking
good too. So Matt, hopefully it's a seamless weekends, we're
all involved and we'll be back talking club cricket at
a very busy weekend for cricket here walling to next week.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
Yeah yeah, definitely Test match next week. So busy busy
time here at Cricket Wellington.
