Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, let's talk club crickets. They're into the final day
officially before the Christmas break for the local cricket around
the region. Let's bringing Matt Wilson, head of Competitions at
Cricket Wellington. Morning.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Matt, Good morning Adam.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
How are we? I'm good? Thanks? Well. I mean it
certainly hasn't been summary weather these last few days, has it, Matt?
I imagine it's effected cricket a little bit. And what
you're able to schedule today?

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Yeah, unfortunately. I mean, to be honest, we've had an
absolutely superb run through this first half of the season.
We haven't officially canceled any round, which is fantastic for
Wellington from October through to December. But it is looking
not to flash today and yet unfortunately we have to
have had to cancel a couple of grades sort of

(00:46):
lowered down just to ensure our top grades are on
some form of wicket today, including art officials. Again, yeah,
a lot of our grasses aren't available and the contractors
have just not had the weather days this week to
get ready in time for what we need. So it's unfortunate,
but we do have some some cricket hopefully getting along underway,
but as always, yeah, well we'll wait and see.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
With the weather, Yeah, pretty unpredictable of it enough, even
a few hours out we can make a fair assumption
that's accurate. So we'll wait and see and then hopefully
bring any cricket coverage to people listening here on CB
through the day as well. Right, well, let's just check
in with the men's competition map, bring us up to
speed with last week and what we got to look
forward to there today, Yeah for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Also in Division one the Uman Chatfield Trophy, we are
are approaching the business end round seven. Last week Eastern
Suburbs they were up against vic Uni at Kilburney Park
and that was a tight one, as has been the
theme in Division one and two, which is great to
see this year, a lot of tight games Eastern Suburbs.
They got over the line against Vick by just thirteen runs,

(01:48):
so they made two hundred and forty seven for eight
in bold book out for two hundred and fifty four.
So yeah, Easter we rapped with that result, having not
started the fifty over comp probably is the way that
they would have wanted. Onslow they were up against Karori
at Nianville that game there Onslow making two hundred and
twenty all out. In Karori they were dismissed for one

(02:09):
hundred and fifty six, so a really big win for
Onslow there and they leap from Karrori into second spot
behind Tighter, who remained top and looked to be in
the driving seat in the compet again they made two
hundred and one. Sorry, they played Heart District and Heart
District were bowled out for one hundred and ninety seven

(02:29):
and Tighter two hundred and one before they got home
by six wickets. So that was a fairly comfortable win
for Tighter against their local rivals. As I said at
the top of the pile. Moving on to today, the
games are at the heart Wreck. We've got Heart District.
They're up against Onslow, vic Uni there against Tighter. That
one has been moved from Calbourn Park out to Frozeer

(02:51):
Park just the weather. As I mentioned earlier. In Karori
they are up against Eastern Suburbs. That game has been
shifted from Karrori Park back to kill Bernie Park onto
an artificial But yeah, some big games there for round
eight today in Division one. As the guys, hopefully we'll
get some some plan before they go away for the.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Christmas break and Aid fingers crossed all right and down
in Division two man.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Yeah, then the Haslt Trophy Division two. So last week
again this great has just been a run fest this
season runs everywhere. It was Winery up against jo Pilip
Brian Heath and that one Johnsonville made two hundred and
fifty nine all out and Winery two sixty two for
five win by five wickets, so really big win for

(03:38):
Winery there against Johnsonville nine I they were up against
Patonia and nine I Park and in that one Patoni
Badde first made two hundred and forty four for four
and in reply nine I fell just short making two
hundred and twenty six for ten, so all out for
two two six. So yeah, te tight one there but

(03:59):
for Tony edging that to keep themselves in second spot
in the Haslet behind Upper Hut who were up against
North City at Linden Park. Again big big scores in
this one, North spatting first they made two hundred and
seventy two and Upper Heart two seventy six for six
winning by four wickets. So as you can see some

(04:20):
big runs being scored in the Haslet this year, which
is great to see and probably a credit to our
groundsman as well for preparing some some decent wickets for
the batsman to score some runs, maybe not much for
the bowlers, but yeah, good stuff. So far as we
enter round eight today, Upper Heart there against nine I,
that's at Barton Oval, so that game has managed to

(04:41):
stay on grass. Johnsonville there against North City, that one's
now on the artificial at alex Moore Park. And WinUI
there against Potoni. That one has been moved from wine
Back over this side of the hill to Slaton Park
in Potoni. So some exciting games there today and Haslet
and just as height really is the EU and Chatfield.

(05:01):
So some yeah, some really good, really good games we've
seen this year and long mate continue.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Yeah indeed hanging in the balance. Sorry I am. What
about in the premiere women's squade Matt wrapping up the twenty
twenty four year.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yeah, so in women's Division one they're still still competing
in their T twenty competition. So last week it was
Upper Heart against North City and this was a bit
of a shot the round. Upper Heart by seven wickets
over North Or obviously top of the table at the
moment and have been playing some really good cricket, North
making ninety seven for eight in their twenty overs in

(05:33):
Upper Heart ninety eight to three, so a big win
for up Heart. Last week Potoni they were up against
Johnsonville and again this actually was a round of upsets,
Johnsonville making one hundred and twenty for three in their
twenty overs and they restricted Potny to one hundred and
eleven to seven, So defending champions downed by Johnsonville in
that one. In City Suburbs they were up against Collegians.

(05:56):
Collegians yet to register a win this season, but they
did register one here. They made one hundred and forty
six for five in their twenty overs and bowled out
City Suburbs for one hundred and fourteen. So things were
flipped a little bit in the women's grade last last week,
but again for the neutral that's great to see and
we move on to another round a' t twenty today.
Again all of the women's games were originally at Potoni

(06:18):
Reck for a bit of a festival round, but unfortunately,
as mentioned due to the weather we have had to
move those games. Collegians there now against Potoni at Martita Domain,
out in Pottidora, North City up against City Suburbs. That
one's at Lynden Park, so not too far from the
other fixture there and Johnsonville there against Upper Heart. That
one has been moved up to Trenton Memorial in Upper Heart.

(06:40):
So some good games today in the women's grade as well,
and that too has been incredibly tight, so great to
see as we approach Christmas.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Indeed, all right, Matt, well, we'll let you hopefully get
through the day, okay, and hopefully the weather is a
bit nicer to us than has been these last few
days and you get a decent day's cricket of what
there is, and we're regather again and chat again and
the new year. Thanks for all your efforts through the
course of the year, and have a good break for
you and the family.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Yep, no, thanks, Adam. It's been a pleasure as always
on the airways, and we'll do it all again in.
