Speaker 1 (00:01):
Nine past seven, as we always do it this time
through the summer months. Let's chat Bowls. Jason Puddock in
the studio. Morning to you, Jason, Morning Coops. All right, well,
we're we're almost at the finish line for our coverage. Obviously,
the Bowls is a big summer sport and I know
there were a lot of people. Will talk about some
of those events a little bit later on, but it
is not really a RESTful time of year for the
bowls scene, really is it.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
No, Look, the Bulls continues now. I mean a lot
of clubs will put on events across New Year in
that and a couple of big national events going on
as well, so that doesn't stop. You're right, and it
will continue through and all the way to the end
of the season.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Great. All right, some results from recently.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
First of all, yeah, the Aerial Master Open singles last week.
As we spoke last week, there were a couple of
tough sections. As it turns out, two of the Plaza
Tip did next even qualify, least to White and Karen
Guildford couldn't make it out of that tough section that
they were in. But we did get thirty qualifies, which
is great. To see and then the finals we had

(01:01):
Keath Thompson of Plymoton beating Jill Oliver of Johnsonville twenty
one to thirteen, Vicky Lee Remuera of one whom Marta
beating Clear Hendra of Silverstream twenty one twenty, Lil Renata
of nine I beating Rosanna Mirroway of martin Borough twenty
one seventeen, and Bertie Love from Stakes Valley beating Alida

(01:21):
Voulu from nine A twenty one fifteen. So in the
semifinals we saw Vicky Lee come up against Kath Thompson
and Vicky Lee ran out Winter twenty one sixteen in
that match, and Lil Renata beating Bertie Love twenty one
nine in the other semi final. So we moved in
the final and this is when the rain came in
on Monday, so they were playing out at Hut and

(01:45):
then got moved halfway through the game to the indoor
venue at nine nine. And this was quite a close game,
actually it was. It was pretty tight most of the
way and then Lil picked up a couple of threes
at the end to move from fifteen to fortyeen in
front to pick up the win. Twenty one fourteen, So
great effort there from Lil. She won the Open Fours

(02:06):
earlier in the season, so HER's second title of the year,
in her third title overall. But I special mention to
Vicky Learrima, who is one of our one to five
year players and has a great future in the game.
So good to see her come through and do well
in that.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
H Yeah, we'll big congratulations to her. And what about
in the men's competition.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Jason, Yeah, So in the men seventy seven qualifier, which
I think maybe the highest we've had in this tournament.
It was pointed out to me while I was out
and about on Sunday watching some games. Big casualty though
in qualifying. Ray Martin didn't make it through, but like
I say, a big number coming through qualification. So in

(02:45):
the quarterfinals where John Zeno from Island Bay beating Mike
Steele of Tawa twenty one to twelve, Trevor Rainer from
Tawa beating Richard Daley of Island Bay twenty one seventeen,
Toru John from Tawa beating Ewan Wong from beat Tony
Central twenty one eight in Fimbar mcgiggin of Stakes Valley
beating Sam Ellison of nine I twenty one ten. In
the semifinals, we had a tight one there, Trevor Rainer

(03:07):
beating John Zeno twenty one twenty and in the other
semifinal Fimbar mcgwiggan beating Tory John twenty one ten. So
he moved into the final, which saw Thimber up against
the young Fimbar up against the the more experienced Trevor
Raino's been around a long time. I've known him for
quite a while. Again, quite it was an interesting game,

(03:28):
quite a tight game. They played twenty two ends overall,
it's first to twenty one shots. They actually split the
ends evenly in one eleven each. The difference was though
Trevor picked up ten ones in one multiple which was
a two, while Fimba picked up four threes in a
couple of twos as well. So Fimbar ended up running
away with that one twenty one twelve. That gives Fimber

(03:51):
his second singles title in four years and his seventh overall,
and again won the four open fours earlier in the
season as well. Bit a synergy there between Lil and
in Fimba because they both won the falls earlier in
this season and they place played three in that that
team as well. Then they've gone on and won the singles.
So well done to those two players.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Yeah, great consistency, that's awesome. All right, congratulations to them. Man.
It's a club back in action.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Yeah, into club today, Dynasty Sport into Club Round seven
and the men. We've got Mrima against Victoria Plymoton play
Island Bay, Tara against Lyle Bay. We've got States Valley
against Pattoni Central. That's third versus fifth. Now, if Patoni
Central can get up over States Vally in this game,
they'll probably jump into the top four, so they'll be

(04:37):
aiming for that one match to today though. For this
the men will be Johnsonvill against nine I two versus one.
A big chance one of these teams to try and
cement a spot and get the home final bow by
winning the round robin.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
Okay, yeah, interesting, all right, well follow that one with
interesting What about the women's competition?

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Yeah, so and the woman we also have Mirama playing
Victoria Plymoton against nine eight Tarwa versus Upper Heart for
Tony Central versus Silver Stream. Match of the day for
the Woman, Johnsonville versus Stakes Valley one versus two. As
we've discussed previously, JOHNSONVILLI actually finished. This is their last
game of the round robin. They've already played two of
their other games, so if Stakes Valley can win that game,

(05:17):
almost secure home advantage in the playoffs. So a big
game there.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Yeah, two big games for the Johnsonville Club all right.
And just in terms of the summer, talked about it
at the start, Jason. They're always always quite busy and
we will be. We're off here for the next month,
so we'll be chatting again on Anniversary weekend, but there'll
be a fair bit happening between now and then.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Yeah, like I said, there's there'll be a lot of
club events going on around the place. But the big
one is the National Singles and Pairs men and women
up in Auckland. We will have a huge amount of
Wellington players going up to that, so we wish them
all the best and hopefully we can bring back some
titles back into Wellington. And the other big one coming
up between now and then is the development one to

(05:56):
ten year peirs that those entries close on Monday, and
we're actually already up on last year's entry, so great
to see that continue to grow.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
And that's pretty much it isn't it.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Yeah, look, I mean we just want to I guess
we just want to sign off now and look just
on behalf of Bois Wellington board, Blake Signal and general
manager and his team. We just want to wish everyone
on Merry Christmas and a happy New year to our
bowling community, all of the z B listeners. It's great
to have the opportunity to present our sport each morning

(06:28):
on a Saturday. It's been great. I just want to
say a big thank you to Dave Hewitt, who obviously
did the first half of the year been a big
job stepping into his shoes. Hopefully I'm doing okay, Dave,
and of course yourself, Keeps and Maddie Piney and all
the team here at ZB. We appreciate your support of
the game. Like I say, to have the opportunity to

(06:50):
discuss their sport every Saturday morning is fantastic and long
mate continue. And I've actually got your gift made.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
Very kind Jason.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
It can't be Christmas without a gift, right.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Oh what is it?

Speaker 2 (07:02):
There we go?

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Oh it's even got my name on it. With a
bottle of beer. Is it.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Yeah, and it's even got your picture on it, so
look at that.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
I appreciate that. Thanks so much, Jason. Now we do
appreciate you coming in and giving us your time every week.
So all the very best of them all chat in
the new year.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
