Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's continue to look through our local sport heading into
another weekend. Lots going on in the club cricket scene
this weekend and looking back on last weekend as well.
So let's bring in Matt Wilson out of Cricket Wellington
to bring us up to speed. Banning to you.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Matt, yeah, good morning, Adam, yep. Big couple of weeks
indeed here at Cricket Wellington and Club Cricket yep.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
And obviously today that means the women's Grand Final for
the T twenties, but there's a bit to take place
before that final at the basin a bit later.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Matt, yeah, absolutely, it's a big day today for the women.
So in the morning we've got an earlier start than usual.
They usually started at eleven but they're starting at nine
am this morning with the final at the Cello based
Reserve schedule for one pm. So we just need to
get the last round robin in this morning and there
are some big, big games and permutations for a couple

(00:49):
of teams. So at this stage North City a top
of the T twenty table, Johnsonville second, they play each
other today at nine o'clock at alex Moore that is
a huge game and effectively a semifinal. Meanwhile, Patoni, who
sit in third, they've got City Suburbs to Tony, can
still make the final as well. So there's only a
couple of points that separate all three. To Tony and

(01:11):
third on twenty eighth, Johnsonville's second on twenty nine, North
City in first on thirty two, so you can you
can see what is on the line this morning for
those three teams. Run rate will probably come into it
as well, and I know those clubs have sort of
been asking me about run rate and how it works
during the week, so I've had to give them an
update and wish them the best of luck that there's
going to be, yeah, a lot on the line today

(01:33):
with those three teams buying for a place in the final.
So yeah, just again, the fixtures are Johnsonville, North City
here this morning, City Suburbs they're up against Patoni. Those
are the two big ones, and Collegians they've got Upper Heart.
That's at Anderson Park. So yeah, huge morning for the
women and we move into that T twenty final this
afternoon at the Cello Base Reserveny defending champions they may

(01:58):
make it again, but We'll have to wait and see.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Exciting, isn't it. And I guess there is more at
stake now, Matt, that the teams do want to be
at the Basin Reserve to play their final. It adds
another sort of dimension to the final, doesn't it. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Absolutely, And as I've said a few times on these
previews as we've moved through this season, it's great to
have club finals back at the Basin and getting those
consistently on their each season. So yeah, another great opportunity
and experience for the women to be out there today
on the ground. So it's going to be a great
day cricket.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Yeah, great, with all the best of the rest of
those teams vying out four places in that final. Nine
o'clock the final round is underway, and then if anyone's
around the Basin area wants to get on down to
watch the premiere women's final and the t twinnings one o'clock,
hopefully that gets underway this afternoon. So a great days
cricket for our top women's club players around the region. Okay, Matt,
And speaking of champions, obviously we had a couple of

(02:50):
champions crowned and the men's white ball stuff last week.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Absolutely yeah. One day rounds and finals was included last
week for the men in the un chat Field Trophy
Division one, Onslow were crowned at ew and Chatfield Trophy champions.
Massive wins to them over what were the defending champions
Tighter Tighter, having held that trophy for several years and
it was a great game of crack at Onslow did

(03:15):
did dominate and in the end got the went fairly
comfortably comfortably. They posted to ninety for eight and they're
fifty overs In terms of batting, Devan Bshbaker again another
great innings from him with eighty two and some good
lower order batting as well from the likes of Logan
Mathison and Henry McIntyre. So they posted two yeah, two,

(03:35):
ninety for eight and their fifty In reply Tighter they
made two hundred and four to ten, but it wasn't
looking anywhere near the two hundred mark early on. Onslow
got some very early wickets and had Tighter on the
ropes at quite an early stage. However, once again Tiger's
lower order wagged incredibly Shamous O'Reilly was the standout eighty

(03:55):
eight off seventy four balls which kept Tighter and they
hung on to that for as long as they possibly could,
but couldn't quite defend it on this occasion. So Onslow
champions in the EU and chatfield. As we move on
to two day cricket today in the start of what
is our Peers Cup and Men's Division one. The fixtures

(04:18):
today Onslow fresh off that win last week, they've got
Corori over the next two weekends Eastern Suburbs. They're at
home to Upper Half. Of course our Hazlet Trophy champions
which we can talk about in the second. They are
back in Division one to two day cricket and Tighter
up against Hut District. A big repeat of the Pears
Cup final to kick two day cricket off there and

(04:39):
that one it's rais a.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Park there great well. Congratulations to Onslow for that one.
And yes you alluded to Matt Division two tell us
about last week's final.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
Yep, so only has the trophy. It was Upper Heart
who were crown champions. Are very dominant when over Tony
in the final and to be honest, Upperhart have been
fantastic in the one day competition in Division two that
they haven't lost a game, being incredibly dominant, so they
deserve their spot in Division one next year in one
day cricket and to be crowned champions. They made three

(05:07):
hundred and thirty for eight at Bartonoble, really good batting
things there and dismissed Patni for just sixty three, so
as you can as you can tell, a very dominant
win there for Upper Heart. Charlie Wilson, he made ninety
three with the back for Upper Heart. That was definitely
the standout there from their perspective. So yeah, great, a

(05:28):
great win for Upper Hearts and the Haslet and of
course they too move on to their two day cricket
today vic Uni. Obviously having played the one day rounds
in Division one, they step back into Division two for
their two day cricket. They're at home at Calvin for
the next two weekends against Johnsonville North City. They're up
against Patni that one at Lynden Park and Winer. We

(05:49):
are Marta they are against nine nine nine. Im making
the trip over the hill for the next two weekends
to play them at brian Heath. So two day cricket,
Red Bull cricket, very exciting times as we move into
that second half of the season. And yeah, we'll see
how how things go again.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Yeah. Great, So we'll have our eyes and ears here
at Newstalks. I'd be on that women's final from one today.
We'll keep you right up to speed with that one matter.
Appreciate your time again. Good to chat again for twenty
twenty five, and we'll do it all again next week.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Have a great weekend, absolutely good too. Thanks Adam.
