Speaker 1 (00:00):
From grassroots to gold Medals. It's Wellington's Fall Sport Breakfast
with Adam Hooper, Rutherford and Bold Toyota and King Toyota
on News TALKSTB twenty two to eight. Let's talk Club
cricket Matt Wilson ahead of competitions at Cricket Wellington is
with us now moynt here, Matt, you must be loving
this stretch of nice weather.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Yeah, Firstley morning, Adam, Yep, definitely, it's been a really
good week of weather. Last week was similar and so
we're expecting the same today. It looks all blue out there,
so yeah, that's been great. Great couple of weeks of
weather and.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Cricket indeed, and long Matte contain. You're right, Matt. Let's
get into things. We'll start with the weapons competition first.
They're forty over. Stuff continues as at round five. Were
up to here, Matt.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Round six today, round five last week, but some good
results all the same. We had a very close one
last weekend between Collegiates and Upper Heart. That game actually
got moved very last minute up to Trenton Memorial from
Carri Park, but it was a six run win for Collegians.
Really tight contest. There Collegians that at first made one
(01:05):
hundred and fifty seven in Upper Heartfeld just short with
one hundred and fifty one. It's a really tight game there.
Patni were up against City Suburbs now of course to Tony,
defending champions in all formats, were beaten by North in
the T twenty and here they were beaten by City
Suburbs by six workouts. They made one hundred and thirty
seven and City Suburbs were one hundred and thirty nine
(01:26):
for four, So Pa Toni struggling a little bit at
the moment. They are bottom of the grade, which is
not something we've seen in recent times, so that they'll
be looking about that pretty quickly. But a good win
for City Suburbs there. In North City they carried on
their merry way as they have for most of the season.
They got a fairly comfortable winning the end against Johnsonville
by forty four runs last weekend to keep them top
(01:48):
of the pile. So near North still in a very
strong position, but with the likes of City Suburbs and
Johnsonville in second and third trying to stick with them
onto today round of forty overs. Johnsonville firstly up against
City Suburbs. That one is at Alex Moore Park, North City.
They're at home again at Lyndon that's against Collegiates and
(02:09):
Upper Hearts. They are at Trenton Memorial once again against
to Tony Riverside. There's some good fixtures in the women's
Division one forty over competition again today for round six.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Okay, let's look across to the men's grades now then
Matt's pass cuptive one halfway through their latest two day rounds.
What are these games heading into today?
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Yeah, so we're right in the middle of round two
of the two day two day rounds this today, so
Heart Districts and Upper Hearts. That one's fairly evenly poised
going into day two. So last week Upper Heart may
two hundred and fifty nine all out and at this
stage Huts are one hundred and seventy for five. So
(02:50):
I think Heart will feel that they can push on
today and get that first innings lead and see where
the game goes. Obviously, this year we are really pushing
to see games progress quicker in captains, to make a
little bit more aggressive decisions out there and try and
find some more outright ones. And we've got that in
round one, so hopefully today we'll see something similar, so
that one's evenly poised. At Carrory Park, Tighter in a
(03:13):
very strong position. They made three hundred and eighty four
all out last week and they've currently got Corori one
hundred and four for seven, so you'd like to think
Titer will wrap up first innings fairly soon in the
first session, but Coori will be looking to hang on
there and in at n Engel Park Onslow, who have
had a very good season today. They were bowled out
one hundred and twenty six last week and Easts currently
(03:36):
now have first innings league. They are two hundred and
sixty four for seven and that one's East still will
feel they performed well last week and they'll look to
push on today against the team that's been banged and
formed for March of the season. So that's the best
Cup eight on day two.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Great, and let's go down to Division matt Division two
the has trophy where the things sit for day two
of those games?
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Yeah, so Haslet we have patoning up against nine I
entering two today nine to I currently one hundred and
thirty three for eight. They are one run off of
whatever follow on because the Tony made two hundred and
thirty three all out in their first thing, so Tony
we feel confident that they can get first innings leads
fairly quickly this morning and push into that second innings
(04:23):
nine and I though we're really holding on late last
week as we're approached stumps, so that'll be an interesting
start this morning. Winery they are in a spot of
bother against Johnsonville at home at brian Heath. Johnsonville made
two hundred and sixty three last week and then bold
Winery out for one hundred and nineteen and enforced the
follow on why he can't be seventeen without loss in
(04:45):
the second innings to Johnsonville feel very confident at getting
two outright wins in a row, which will be a
great start to their Red Bull campaign. And at Calvin
Park it's VIC against North City, VIC dominating that one
at this stage. They are bold North City out last
week for und seventy two and they made three hundred
and one all out in there in near innings, so
(05:07):
they've established first innings there and they will look too
like a few other teams, push on today and look
for that outright when having not got off the best
to start in Round one against Johnsonville. So yeah, Vick
will feel very good about that one. So some good
rounds today of cricket and day two for the men
as well.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
