Speaker 1 (00:00):
But let's chat bowls. As always, we bring in Jason
Puddock for a look at the sports as well the
well is it the summer, Jason? That continues autumn? What
do we call it?

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Well, anytime it Sonny, we'll call it summer.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
Adam, absolutely keep it going as long as we can
and a reps up to report on.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
So last week the wk W won to five rep
games took place and our women in round one they
picked up three wins, so a great start to that event,
but they were in second place after round one on
differential shots behind Capiti. A round two picked up another
couple of wins, still behind a couple of big losses
there actually move that shot differential. They were fifteen behind

(00:41):
after the first round, although they were equals with wins
in the second round. There were forty five shots behind
Capity going into the last round, so they needed a
big last round to get in front and win this.
In round three, two wins and Capidy picked up two
wins and while we had a couple of big wins,
wasn't enough to close that gap. So we saw Capiti
winning the event with seven wins and a plus six

(01:03):
differential and Wellington finishing second on seven wins with a
minus one differential, and then man We two and Wire
Rapper finishing third and fourth, so well done. We spoke
about ra the Roalmdy Ladies last week doing well, the
Capital Ladies winning winning this last rep game of the
season for them and.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
The men's side.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
In round one, the Wellington team picked up two and
a half wins put them in front by half a
point from the Wire Rapper and Capiti teams. Round two
two wins, but Wyrapper and Capita picked up three wins,
so they ended up half a point behind going into
the last round, but a great last round by the
boys picking up three wins to nudge home in that one.

(01:42):
So the final result there was Wellington with seven and
a half wins plus four differential, Wire Rapper second on
seven wins plus fifty five, Capitaly third on seven wins
with minus six a pretty close competition there, with man
Or two finishing in fourth place.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
All right pleasing results there. I'm on national the bowls
three to five has been going on. Give us the
latest are especially from a Wellington lens.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
So, as we mentioned the team from Niner with Robbie
byrd Sam Allison and Kenny Critchlow headed up to Auckland
last week now in qualifying went through unbeaten five wins
from five and he dropped one set out of ten played.
Though we were the most dominant team there. That moved
them ultimatically into the quarter finals, where they came up
against the team from Manu Waitu and Tarcaro, which include

(02:27):
Sharon Simms, a legend of bowls in New Zealand. In
the first set they went down five to seven, bounce
back in the second set winning five to one, but
unfortunately went down in the tiebreaker. So a great run there,
but unfortunate to get knocked out in the quarterfinals and
Nelson ended up winning that competition.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
They went back to back.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
The team included the legend of Bowls in New Zealand,
Val Smith, and they beat Birkenhead in the final.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Oh he's nice when the Auklanders get beaten, isn't it else?
All right? Very good sa and bit of action this
week champion a champion, pears and singles.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Yeah, so the pears have been played today.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Got twenty three men's teams in twenty one women's teams.
Again we play these down to the semifinals before we
play a finals weekend tomorrow we'll have the Chamber Champs
Singles twenty four men nineteen women. I just want a
big shout out here to the representative from Lyle Bay
and the women's side of the drawer, Judy Howard. Absolute

(03:26):
legend of bowls and Wellington. A member of the New
Zealand Order of Merit.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
She's won thirty six center.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Titles, the most prolific winner of titles in bowls in Wellington.
She's won this event fifteen times and the first time
was in nineteen seventy nine and this includes winning this
event six times in a row in the nineties and
I think she actually won it eight out of the
ten years it was played in that decade. So absolute legend.

(03:55):
Great to see her still out on the greens doing
the stuff that she does. And the next weekend we've
got the Champ Chap Mixed peers and that'll be the
last Champion Champ event before we go in to finals
weekend on the twenty fourth and twenty fifth.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Just mention that you.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Know we have awards for player of the Year at
the moment in terms of the men's signed fim BA
mcgwiggins quite far in front after his escapades in the
open events, but Robbie Byrd has given him a run.
He's into two semi finals and the champion Champs already,
and he's in each of the next three events as well,
finding his way to try and pick up that title

(04:30):
for the year.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
All right, fantastic, All right, well'll keep tabs on those
over the next few weeks. Jason the Yeah, congratulations from
all of us to Judy Howard for those remarkable stats
and what a lifelong contribution of great success. So thanks
as always Jas for popping in. We'll chat again in
a couple of weeks.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah, no problem.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
Mean, just to quick shout out to all the mothers tomorrow,
Happy Mother's Day. I hope you enjoy your day and
you get spoiled for.
