Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's taught men's at Central League Football now and Dale
Warburton is back with.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Us money Dale, good morning, how are you going?
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Very good? Thank you and well yeah, Wellington Olympic surprise surprise,
still yet to lose or draw a game. Eight from
eight for them Phoenix Reserves and Miramar Rangers and second
spot on the ladder where the five wins, Phoenix slightly
ahead on points differential. But let's go to today's Gamesdale,
and let's start up in the Hut Valley Upper Hut
(00:27):
hosting North Wellington.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah, a bit of a big game in the relegation battle,
isn't it. Upper Hut all the way down the ninth
in their first season and sixth league of when he
scored five goals in eight games and haven't scored a
goal in six of the games those played, so they've
really struggled on that the end of the pitch. And
they were comfortably beaten by Western Suburbs last week and
they it was not long a half time, but then
it finished five and the kind of fell over in
(00:51):
the second half of that game. For North Wellington, they
had a bit of a closer game against Monty Phoenix,
so he came from behind twice but then gave up
a ninetieth minute goal to lose three too, and it
keeps in the bottom of the league. But probably one
of those games where it quite easily go either way. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Then next up we'll go to David Farrington Park for
Tony their second draw of the season last week against
Miriama Rangers who seemed to be having a pretty good season.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Yeah, and I bounced back after this morning season so
far last season, Yeah, they've moved up to second after
a three to win over Waterside Corry. They lived twice
through Owen Smith and then Martin Bueno before Nancholas bob
Adia scored the actual winner in the second half if Tony.
They snatched a draw late on against Nape ser Rose.
Sam Pickering scored in the eighty eighth minute to get
(01:37):
back to three to two before Oliver Pickering scored in
the nineties minutes to come back from three to one
to secure that draw. You think Mirriam will be favorites
for this one, but it feels like it would be
a little bit of a banana skin game. Tony seem
to get some results when they're not too fancy, so
so how that plays out at David Farrington.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
All right, so another interesting one. What I say, Rory
mid table against the second place Phoenix team at Fraser Part.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Yeah, Phoenix retains taken place with that three to win
over in North Plainton. They lived twice through Lachland Candy
and then Ryan Watson before Cassidy scored a very late
winner also coryl There have been a bit of a
bit of a mixed bag for them, but they are
holding on so that for that race for a National
League spot there and now they're currently in six. But
you'd think a loss here would probably see them drift
(02:22):
a little bit away from that top five at the
halfway mark of the season. You think thinks I should
be favorites there, but they can can get tipped over
sometimes by less hands teams. So compnitially one out a
phrase apart.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
All right, So Island Bay hosting Western Suburbs.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Yeah, when some is on a bit of a decent
run of unbeaten in the past four games. That that
has included the two bottom place teams in North Wellington
and Upper Heart. Other Heart they beat five and NOL
last weekend before the goals coming in the second half,
so they should back themselves to go five games unbeaten
with a trip to Island Bay. Alan Bay did pretty
well to hold Olympic two just two goal lost, but
(03:02):
they are still well that relegation battle with Upper Hut
and North Wellington. So we'll see how that one goes
later today.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Yeah all right, and then those are today's games tomorrow
pretty big one should be an interesting oneale with Wellingston olymperk.
As we said eight from eight with a trip up
to Napia City Rovers who sit in fourth spots, could
night you have the chance to be the first to
get glory over Olympic this year.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Yeah, or even a drawer that they'd probably take that.
I think it's probably the game of the round. I
think this one if you say Olympic. Yeah, well out
in front they had CUFTAB turnal, went over Bay last
week in goals first half goals to Adam Super and
Hamers spots and were enough for them. It's hard to
see anyone catching them from the stage are where people
take off points is probably a different story. Napier they've
(03:46):
had some pretty mixed results and they coughed up that
three one leading Exponity to draw. These are the fourth
and they're probably battling with Miramar Suburbs for those last
two National League spots. But at home they can be
a very tricky factor, so might back themselves to get
something out of their game.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
All right, Well, we'll watch with interest two o'clock up
at Blue Water in Hawk's Bay tomorrow in NAPI City,
Rovers against Wellington Olympic. Close all the round, nine games. Dale,
Thanks for your time as always, and we'll chatt again
next Saturday. You know where the check, Yes, thanks Dale,
warbtam with our Men's Central League coverage. It's going to
the Women's Central League and Hannah Wignall with us. Morning
to you, Hannah, Hi, good morning Radio. Well a full round,
(04:24):
and just before we get into that, a quick look
at the table because Wellington United continuing their dominant form
seven from seven and people struggling to top of them
over not even a loss to their name yet. Phoenix
and Watersye Rory they're in sort of second spots with
the Phoenix just aheads on gold difference, Hannah. It starts
(04:46):
with one of those teams, Waterside Rory. They're hosting Victoria
University this afternoon at midday.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Yeah, and for vic UNI they're coming off another defeat
last week they lost six nil to Taradale. That puts
the goal difference at a whopping negative eighteen. They will
have needed a really good week of training to get
their heads back in the game. However, it feels like
it's going to be another tough week. They've scored just
(05:13):
two goals in the Central League this year, and if
you compare that to an individual player from Karori, Nikola Ross,
She's scored five goals last week alone. Karori are in
consistent form. They haven't lost a game in the league
since April when they played United and to top it off,
they've won every single game against VIC for the last
(05:34):
five years. So I would say it's going to be
a tough game for VIC, but we'll find out.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Yeah, day kick off and at the same time, probably
another tough game for Moturo Are they're hosting the Wellington
United Informed Diamonds team.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
I feel like Moto are the team with the hardest
job in the league. The amount of travel they have
to do adds lots of variables to their performance. They're
struggling for consistency this season and they're currently sitting second
from bottom on the ladder. If Diamonds bring a full
strength team. This game could see some more big scores
(06:13):
this week United, we'll see a key player, Zoe Barrett,
playing one hundredth game for the club. It's a huge
milestone and the team will be high energy for the occasion,
so I expect they will show up full noise.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
Yeah great, all right, congratulations Zoe and the team of course,
making their trip up to New Plymouth one o'clock for
Tony hosting Taradale. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
Patni currently fourth on the table with eleven points, as
you've said, but they're in a difficult position. They need
to start picking points up at home if they want
a chance of getting in the top three. Taradale are
currently sitting just below Patni and we could see some
movement in the table if Taradale pull off a win
this week. Of the times that these two teams have
(06:55):
played each other, Patni have won three of the four games.
One player to watch is Peppi Oliver Bell, who used
to play at United. Peppe scored a hat trick against
Mirrama Rangers last week within the space of ten minutes.
I think this game will be really close, but the
pressure is on per Tony and they're at home.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
All right.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Then tomorrow Sunday a couple of games midday. Mirramar Rangers
at David Farrington Park are hosting the Phoenix. Obviously, Phoenix
having a pretty good season. What are you expecting here?
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Yeah, this is an interesting game. Both teams show up
and they try and play football. They're just at different
ends of the table. And I think to play well
against the strong Phoenix side, Merrimah will need to be
incredibly organized on defense and they'll need to take their
counter attacking opportunities where they can. We know, for Mirrama
(07:47):
they've got a really solid defender in Amy King, so
let's see if she can rally the back line and
keep the Phoenix at bay. I think it's another interesting
thing about Mirrama is that they have a number of
goals that they've scored the league have come in the
last ten minutes of the game. So I think if
Phoenix are clear ahead, I wouldn't rule out counter attack
(08:07):
and goals from Merrima.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
All right, it's midday tomorrow it's David Fowing Cert and
then outside the region, but probably a pretty important game
for these two teams. The Palmerston North Derby are United
against Marist I guess both sort of done that lower
half of the table. So what are you expecting here?
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Yeah, I think this will be the most exciting game
of the week, particularly in what's at stake for both teams.
It's the first time in a long time there's been
a Central League Palmerston North clash a derby if you will.
The game will be loud and players will need to
speak up and rise to the occasion. We know that
(08:45):
Palmerston North United fans are incredibly vocal, but the Marist side,
they're experienced in the Central League of recent times every
season they finished the middle of the table. They'll approach
this game with a love of confidence that United won't
have and they'll know how to keep calm and not panic.
(09:05):
So in the end, I think this will be at
Parmeston North merris win, but it will be an exciting
game and I think if you're in Palmerston North you
should get down.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
To it absolutely. One o'clock at Memorial Park tomorrow afternoon
sounds like a great occasion. And Hannah, just with your
thoughts as someone that I'm sure through your time at
seating you've played Wellington United a lot and they've been
a dominant force in this league. I mean, what is
the mindset of these rest of the teams in a
league like this when you are chasing a team that
is just performing so well and just constantly building that
(09:33):
lead at the top of the table.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
Yeah, I think as an underdog, if you'd will, it's
having that winning mentality no matter what. Every team has
weak spots. They have things they're good at, but they
also have things that expose them. And we see time
(09:56):
and time again in football upsets happen. We saw it
recently with Crystal Palace. I think we are nobody forgets that,
and a good coach will instill that belief in players.
And so every time I've played as an underdog, you
go in with that winning mentality and it makes it
really tough and it makes it exciting when those when
(10:17):
those wins or those draws come off.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
All right, So well, they've got Mottoda this afternoon at middays.
We'll see how that one goes. Hannah, great to chat
as always, Thanks so much, and we'll chet again next weekend.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
Thank you very much.
