Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's look at local men's football to kick start another
weekend here on the All Sport Breakfast though, Dale Warburton
is back with us wanting to you Dale, good morning. Okay, Well,
it starts off with probably one of the matches of
interest in terms of the top end of the table anyway,
Wellington Phoenix Reserves team and Wellington Olympic. This one at
home for the Phoenix at Fraser Park, but a big

(00:20):
one plays three match up.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Yeah, probably the best game of the round, you'd think
when Olympic six points Claire at the top with just
four games to go, so they're not too far off
securing another CenTra League I think that might be four
or five in a row for them. They will be
pretty pretty stoked to having won through to the Channel
Cup semi finals last week with a three to win
over at Western Suburbs.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Did require extra time. We went.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Sorry. Olympic went up to in the second half of
goals to Jianna Berzugas and Gavin Hoyd, but then considered
twice in the last ten minutes before Alex Davies scored
the winner there to secure the quarterfinal win for them.
So on in Phoenix they were a bit of a
surprise to unlost Tony last week. The we're missing a
few players who were the first team over in.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Perth for their Australia Cup game.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
But like I said, loss has probably dropped them out
of proper title contention there.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
There's now ten.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Points back with those four four games to go, and
they have a little bit some competition coming from behind
now with Western Suburbs just one point behind them in
twenty fourth with twenty four points.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
Who they will play next week?

Speaker 2 (01:24):
So you think pretty entertaining game out, pretty insane game
out there at Fraser Park, and you think Olympic will be,
should be, should be slight favorites there.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Yeah, all right, looking forward to that one. And speaking
of Western Suburbs so as you say, are on the move,
just hanging on there in fourth spot at the moment,
but giving a bit of a threat to those other teams.
They traveled to North Wellington today.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah, and just in game this one, I guess we're
coming off that loss that they need to refocus pretty
quickly as they have Nappier just two points behind them
in that fight for their last National League spot. So yeah,
tight times for them, despite being in pretty good form
so far. North Wellington for the end I've had, I've
shown a bit of fight lately. They've it's still last

(02:04):
place with ten points, but eight of those points have
come in the last four games, so they're trying to
drag themselves out of relegation there. They they have some
pretty well actually relatively were not relatively easy, but easy
er games are coming up after where they have Krory
and up a Heart in the fine round and then

(02:24):
the Phoenix mixed in there as well, so they're still
definitely got a chance of avoiding relegations. West were pretty
comfortable when I was earlier in the season. I think
it was six to two, so you'd think they should
be pretty too strong for North Wellington, who will probably
sit to at the bottom for another week all right.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
TATS three also out at Maidstone Park, Upper Hearts City
obviously second to last up against Botoni, you are a
few places ahead of them. Can we say Potnia safe
just yet Dale from relegation.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
I mean more than likely, but I wouldn't say absolutely.
I think it's still pretty big relegation game. I think
if if Tony went here, they'll almost certainly be safe
even a draw, probably get probably be enough of a heart.
They're arrid in the mixt year that they might even
come down to their last game who they play North Wellington,
whether they stay up or not. And they've had won

(03:15):
win of the last five games. They're not in a
particularly great run of road and form and they have
some pretty tough games with the Olympic and Wests. After this
game here and then finished that North Wellington game, but
Tony they did break that to three game losing street
with that one over on your Phoenix, Karen McMahon scored
his fifteenth goal of the season, so it's a pretty
good return.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
He's almost scored half of their goals this season.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
And yeah, so they've they've got a few tougher games.
They finished their rounds with Napier and Mirima and then
have Island Bay next week, so they'll need to get
a couple of points in the next few weeks to
get themselves support those tougher games later in the season.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
Yeah, okay, then at three o'clock Island Bay at home
there of course in the relegation battle as well, and
they've got more of my Rangers, so they probably don't
want to have it this time of the season.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
No, you want to be playing teams in and around
your Mirramas. But I think they're in a seven game
unbeaten run in the Central League, so they're the sort
of surge towards the second place. They now have a
seven point gap inside the National League spot, so that
that win today will almost secure that position. But they
should be relatively comfortable with the National League position. I
think Island Bay I've had a bit of a hardy

(04:23):
have a very hard run and after Mirama they have
Party next week and then Olympic CA and West, so
they've got three of the top four place teams, so
they probably They're probably not going to get much out
of Mirrama today, but that game next week Poton is
going to be huge for them given they are just
two points above North Wellington in last place.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
All right, that's today's action. In one game tomorrow Waterside
CARRII with a trip up to Napier City Rovers.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Yeah nap you're fighting with West in Suburbs for that
final spot National League spot two points behind, but still
have Murma and Olympic to play, so they have a
bit of kitchen up to do.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
They definitely need a win today. Sorry, Tomorrow turn around it.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
It results earlier in the season where they did lose
to Unto.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Waterside Corry waters Cry.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
They're struggling at the moment. They have the worst form
at the moment. They've only had one draw in the
last five games, and then they have the toughest run
in against those teams down the bottom and they have
Napier obviously tomorrow and then North Wellington and then finished
with Miramar and the Phoenix. So's probably going to need
to eke out to win somewhere to survive fishing.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
That game against North.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Indk next week's probably going to be the big one
for their season, but you'd think they they'll probably struggle
to get points out of Napier up and up in
Nightpril tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
All right, we look forward to all those games across
the weekend, defining for many teams. So I appreciate your
time as always, Daliable chat next weekend, Yeah, look forward
to check. Well, now we'll go to the Women's Central League.
Analyst Hannah Wignell is with us morning to yea, Hannah,
we can't go without acknowledging the big euro Women's football final.
Though from Monday morning you had a long picked England's
with your head and your hearts, so you'd be delighted

(05:56):
they prevailed in and penalty shootouts.

Speaker 4 (06:00):
It was a huge, a huge game. We were on
the edge of our seats, you know, we got up
at three point thirty in the morning, big gang of us,
a little yelling at the TV and I guess in
English styles this whole tournament they've scraped through, and they
scraped scraped. The win and the winner is a win,

(06:20):
I think. You know, there's there's the press and the
excitement around this win. Doing it back to back with
the same coach. It's just awesome to see and so
almost it doesn't matter how you win. When you win.
It was pretty sad for some of the Spanish players,
like their top top side. You know, they outplayed us

(06:41):
on many many fronts. I remember England they've strung a
little rondo together in the game and we all let
out a big cheer, like trying to be Spanish. So look,
a win's a win. I'm really tough for them, and
it's so cool to see the reception that they got
going back into England to Buckingham Palace.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
It was awesome.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Yeah, very well deserved. He could see what it meant
to a lot of those players and support staff as well.
So yes, congratulations to England. Right, let's talk Central League.
The round actually got onto way last night and it
was the competition leaders, Wellington United, extending their lead over
third placed per Tony five nil. The score thrashing really
a double to Hannah Cooper included in that. So Wellington

(07:20):
United now heading into the rest of the rounds games
eleven points clear of the Wellington Phoenix team whose game
has actually been postponed as part of this round for
another couple of weeks. So let's get into today's action.
Hannah though, and Palmeston North United hosting Victoria University in
a few hours time at eleven thirty.

Speaker 4 (07:38):
Yeah, this is a huge game for vic UNI. It's
the bottom of the table clash. Vickar on four points,
Palmston North United are just above them on seven points.
Both teams are coming off a one nil loss last weekend.
Last week Vick played Palme in North Marrist holding them
out until the eighty eight minutes when Marist sent a
dangerous cross into the box, best striker getting to the

(07:59):
ball first from a few yards out. That would have
been a really tough pill to swallow for VIC. I'm
sure the coach, however, would have been really proud of
the team because I know they had a number of
chances and it looks like they found their confidence throughout
the game. This game's been played up in Palmston North.
I believe it's a big grass pitch inside an old velodrome.

(08:20):
I used to love playing here, even if I've missed
a few sitters on the pitch when I used to play.
Of the two teams, Vick have been having a tougher
season and they'll be eyeing up this game as a
must must win, so it'll be one they put all
their folks into, all right, Then.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
A couple of games tomorrow, remember my Rangers and Moto again,
sad down that lower end of the table.

Speaker 4 (08:43):
Yeah, last week MRMA played Palms North United and I
got all my reckons wrong. I said, mirror mar score late.
They scored last week in the third minute, an amazing
goal from Ella Wilson outside the box. There's a shot
that went top less. You'd be stoked if you scored that.

(09:03):
Mirrama started the game with a high press and played
it to their advantage. So I did say it was
United's game, but Mirrama really kind of dug in and
kept that lead throughout the whole game. Motoya they had
a surprise win last week against Taradale. They won one
nil from a goal in the thirtieth minute. That's going

(09:23):
to give them a huge boost that the only other
team that they've beaten this year is pick Uni. Motya
currently sit seventh in the league on nine points, Mirrama
eighth in the league on eight points. Being played in
Wakefield Park, so Motoya will be traveling. The game's on turf.
It'll be quick and a really good game to watch.

(09:43):
I think it could go either.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
Way, okay, and then at one tomorrow afternoon. I guess
he's a fair bit of for both these teams as well.
Mid table Taradale are hosting a water cycle Rory, who
are fourth on the ladder.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
Yeah, yeah, it's there's a lot in a lot in
it for this game. Audo traveling up to Taradale. Last
week they played Pa Toni in a really tense battle.
It was dubbed it was a dubbed a game that
would determine who gets in the National League spot at
the end of the season. The game didn't do that
because it ended in a one old drawer. So from

(10:18):
those that were at the game, I heard Cordordi were dominant,
although we know possession and chances don't necessarily mean you
get the result. Could Aoradi got back into the game
eighty fifth minute and that ended one all, so no
change in the latter. Taradale are close behind in six

(10:38):
only two points difference between these two teams and it
will be a really good game to watch. If Coldordi
don't keep focused, Taradale could easily take the win. The
left time these two teams played each other it was
four nil Coudori. But as the season has gone on,
we know Taradale have shown up and shown what they're capable,

(10:58):
so we'll see all right.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
We'll be interesting that one has a lot writing on
that one. So all those games right across the weekend, Hannah,
appreciate your time. As always, we'll chett again nex Saturday.
