Speaker 1 (00:00):
The weekends here and so was the All Sport Breakfast
with Rutherford and Doon, Toyota and King Toyota, your home
of Hybrid News Talk said be tight And as you
heard in our club rugby wrap up before, it was
Huddle Boys Marits winning their first Jubilee Cup since twenty fourteen,
beating Tawa twenty nine to twenty two. So to look
back on the triumph, we're joined now by Huddle Boys

(00:21):
Marit hooker Harry Press, who was awarded the Jim Brown
Plate for the MVP of the Jubilee Cup Final. Morning
to you, Harry, Congratulations. I'm sure it's been a pretty
satisfying week reflecting on the title.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Yeah, it was pretty pretty cool opportunity for not just
myself but the other other team in the club in general.
You know, it's been a pretty pretty long time since
we've last been in a final Lilow winner, so to
flick back on that, you know, it's pretty Gratefululd being
the opportunity.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
It had a couple of good wins that the couple
of weeks leading up to the game, obviously beating Ari's
have been one of the form team tames all year.
When when the Jubilee Cup started that that nail bier
over power Plum. So did you go into the game
against Tar with a little bit of confidence, a bit
of momentum behind you?

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, definitely, I mean yeah, getting some great wins the
previous weeks definitely brings a confidence in games like that.
But then they we had to give a respect where the
spect to shoot. Tower a solid team and we knew
that they weren't going to come out easy.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Building that early lead, How crucial was that?

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Yeah? I guess that that leader is kind of what
what got was that game. We weren't chasing it, we
were we sat we're in control. So hearving that and
riding a momentum wave to you know, finish the job
at the end of the eighty minutes is what kind
of got us there.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Everyrillyant stuff and yourself, what a what a final for year?
It's not often a hooker gets, you know, a good
prize instead of the m v P Prize after after
a Jubilee Cup final. I think you're the first hooker
to do it, aren't you. So you must be pretty
proud of your efforts.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Yeah, I mean yeah, like, you know, pretty cool and
honored to be able to receive it. I mean, at
the end of the day, it was just my job
was going out there, put out performance and help my
team get over that line. So if that means you know,
I'd get awarded in great, But if I didn't, and
then I was more than happy to come away with
with the win. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
How much sort of energy did you feel you had
to give the team just you know, all the niggle,
the you know, the collision stuff that everything going on
on top of just yet your main role with would
light out everything else.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Yeah, I mean, I mean TWA a big team and
they've got some good big boys in there, So my
body was killing out for that. No, I mean, realistically,
the boys were able to get up themselves. There's not
much xtra I really had to do. It'll just play
my game and do what I had to do.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
How do you make sure you're on form for for
big games, big moments? Do you do anything differently? Do
you do you manage to sort of have a bit
of extra focus when you're in a final like that,
making sure you know throwers aren't going wayward, all things
like that.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Yeah, I guess it's falling back on for me. It's
falling back on my approaches, my preparations, you know, bigger
the game, yep, you might want to put some extra
time into your preparation, seeing an extra five minutes going
over over some home and what the game plans are
kind of thing. So yeah, differently in the big games
the expreporation, but at the same time is falling back

(03:26):
with not what I know works and trusting that.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
What has contributed to the team's success this year? Because
I mentioned saw those playoff results, but mcbang shield would
have been a big one for you guys as well,
went over to Toni just before the playoffs start. What
has contributed on the whole to the success of the
club this year?

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Do you think? I think at stud there we're talking
about our values that we wanted to live by, and
one of them was just being yourself. Perhaps in the
last few years players are trying to, you know, be
or do something that it's not them, So especially it
was real focus on being yourself, expressing yourself how you

(04:06):
want to express yourself, and everyone else will put will
support you in that aspect.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
And clearly you got guys that have have sort of
contributed right across the park right, there didn't seem to
be too many weaknesses at certain areas right across the season.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Yeah, I mean we've got some with We're luckily enough
to have some great players you know, from and it's
not just the same thing our bench in our cults
and our premier reserves team as a whole club, whole
club when it wasn't just just the twenty two that
took the field. I mean on Tuesdays we have lives

(04:42):
crumbs against our prim reserves and so be able to
go against the best pack there and the best pack
here really helped, you know, sharp and sharpen the sword
so when it came to that crouch time, we can
really get the job done.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Club break the off and gets a bit of a
bit of a bad rap. People question it and things
like that, but I mean, how enjoyable has the campaign
been for you? And you know how competitive was it
as well at the same time negotiating everything that happens
through the season.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Yeah absolutely, I mean for me, graph it's putty that
that's fun, isn't it. You know? Not boys aren't there
just because they have to be there there, They've made
the decisions because they enjoy being there. So you know,
having great groups of boys around you, some great mates
definitely is another contributing factor with that, and a lot.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Of success as well at the club level comes down
to consistency across seasons with personality. You hope the win
last weekend will make sure a few people or the
lot of the team will be back for twenty twenty six.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
I hope. So that's the plan anyway. You know some
boys who definitely on the feds about what they're going
to do to this year kind of I hope that
this will be the enticing type of thing. Goal will
come back for another year.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Yeah, nice, And what didn't mean to everybody just tell
us about those emotions as sort of pyke at it
on Saturday night, I'm sure, but the few days after.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
That, yeah, I mean for a playing group, you know,
that's there's the goal. We've been sitting out for the
last few years. We've been getting to the semi finals,
that could never really crack past that. So for a
team that was pretty pretty special and pretty cool to
you know, get past that semi final hump and actually

(06:25):
do a job and get things done. And then as
a club, I mean, you've got I haven't been a
clever room, so so packed on a Saturday night after
their when but just how how much meant to not
just the players there, but to the old timers, the sponsors,
things like that. You know, they were just absolutely wrapped

(06:46):
in aesthetic with what what we achieved this season.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Awesome. Harry boll Hey, congratulations on your role in the
season and in particular the final mate. So yeah, be, congratulations,
enjoy the off season, and yeah, appreciate your time. You're
on new st BE this morning.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Cheers, Thanks thanks for having me.
