Speaker 1 (00:01):
Right on seven thirty on the All Sport Breakfast.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
There we're continuing with our club sport raps now heading
into another weekend and let's talk local football. Will start
with the Women's Central League inside the last few weeks
of the Central League competition for the year, and Hannah
Wignell joins us, wanting to.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
You Hannah, good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
And Wellington United's still in a very dominant position on
the table with the lead forty five points to their name.
Phoenix Academy Under eighteen girls in second on thirty four points,
so eleven points back and still a game in hand
for them though, and also a game in hand for
Watersight Carrori as well. They're a further seven back from
the second place Phoenix team, so quite a spread out

(00:40):
top three on the table. Let's start by chatting the
first game on the schedule today, Hannah. Though, pe Toni
are hosting Palmerston North United at eleven.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Yeah, it's as you said, the game has been played
in Batni, so a very small home team advantage, but
Palmson North United will be traveling. Interesting thing for Patoni.
They're currently fourth on the ladder, but last week they
were third. They suffered a heavy defeat to United last weekend,
a five NIERL loss. Palmerston North United, on the other hand,

(01:13):
they're coming off the back of a solid win against
Pick Uni where they won three to one. Georgia Horn
getting two of the three goals and they were her
first goals of the season, so awesome to see another
woman on the scoreboard. This is on turf. Patonia really
comfortable playing at their home pitch. When they've got the ball,

(01:33):
they're confident. They've got a really quick passing game and
they have a good ability to create chances. They've scored
thirty four goals this season. I think the game should
be a convincing when to Patoni. However, Palmerston North United
will give them a run for the money and they'll
be feeling confident off the back of last week's game.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
All right, and making the trip. The other direction is
Wellington United. They are katting up to Arena Turf to
take on Palmerson North Merrison at eleven thirty.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Yeah, Palmerson North Marist didn't play last week. They had
the week off, so they'll be coming into this game
fresh and ready to take on top of the table.
They've got nothing to lose They're sitting comfortably in the
middle of the table and have had a really solid season.
Merists last meyrists last league game was two weeks ago
where they secured a late winner to beat vic Uni

(02:21):
one Nill saying Merists is a good tongue for stuff
for anyone. Wellington United, as you said, a continuing top form.
They convincingly beat to Tony last week. Net Olson is
sitting as an outright leader on the Golden Boot letter
with twenty six goals. United will be focused on drilling quality,
refining their tactics and trying out new set plays ahead

(02:43):
of the National League at the end of the season.
Perhaps Marists only saving grace is that United are traveling
for this match. I suspec it will be an even
game for the first twenty minutes and then as the
game on goes on it will open up and United
will take it away.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
All right. See, it's I'm sure not too much pressure
they'll be traveling.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Was United right back here in Wellington at midday water
side Carori now the big game for them two in
third place taking on Merrima Rangers.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
It's a home game for Karori this week and one
they shouldn't take lightly. Merrima have proven a little unpredictable
at times this year, but they have it well within
them to score goals. They're coming off the back of
a five to two win against Motor, a game where
Mirrama we're leading the entire game. Cororia also coming off
the back of the game against Taradale. The game was

(03:30):
perhaps a little less convincing but incredibly important for deciding
whether Taradale is going to enter the National League race.
Corori found themselves coming from behind to secure a two
to one win away from home. This win for Karori
and the loss for pe Toni meant the leap frog
in the league. As I said earlier, Karori now sit
in third on twenty seven points. It's a really tight

(03:52):
race for the second National League spot, so Karori will
be looking to put this game to bed early. I
think it will be a tough day at the office
for Merrimah, especially the rain that we're expecting.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
All right, so that one at midday at twelve thirty.
Of course, the Wellington Phoenix Academy Under eighteen team they're
looking to I guess keep that buffer of their second
place between them and the rest of the pack. Strong
but they're going to have to travel up to Plymouth
to keep that going. I've got MOTOA this afternoon.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
The Phoenix have been second in the table pretty much
all season. Tory, the under eighteen's coach, re signed with
the Phoenix for next season, which is really great for them.
Sury used to coach Courordi last year. Is incredibly knowledgeable
and a really high energy coach, so she'll be bringing
that in. Even though that Phoenix have had such consistent form,

(04:39):
Motorua are second from bottom in the table. They're sitting
on nine points above vic Uni, who are less on
four points. This will be a tough game for Motoroa.
They have a goalscorer in Anna Hinton, so let's see
if she can help Motoroa get on the scoreboard. Phoenix
will be looking to stretch their legs, try something new
and get a few pasts Motoroa. I suspect it will

(05:01):
be a comfortable win for.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Them, all right.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Send in a couple of hours later, wrapping up the
day's action and the whole weekend as well.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
University back at home taking on Taradale.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
Yeah, this game is being played at BOYD Wilson, a
home game for Vic UNI. Last week, VIC struggled against
a fired up Palmerston North United, who are really fighting
to stay in the Central League for next season. The
game for VIC last week finished three to one to
Palmerston North United, VIC only securing a goal at the
end of the game an extra time. I know I
keep saying it each week, but it has been a

(05:32):
tough season for VIC. They're sitting bottom of the table
on four points, Motto nine on nine points above them.
VIC have four games left in the season, including this one.
If they can scrape together two wins and Motoy don't
get any more points, they could avoid relegation. However, it's
a must win for VIC Uni. Taradale sit comfortably in

(05:55):
the middle of the table. They'll be gutted about their
loss last week to Karori and they'll be wanting to
finish their season off with some strong winds They've got.
They've really sort of solidified their spot in the Central
League this year and they have two players, Madison Hughes
and Samantha Wado, who are sitting in the top ten
goal scorers for the league. So a real good season

(06:16):
for them so far. It's going to be a tough
game all.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Right, Well, let's look at that result when it comes
in as well. A two thirty kickoff for that one
at the board, Wilson Turf. Great to catch up, Hannah
and round where I suspect where you will the picture
in terms of both ends of the table will come
slightly clearer as we get into the final few weeks
of the competition. So I appreciate your time and we'll
chat next weekend.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Let's chat the men's the Central League and our local analysts,
Dale Warburton, Morning, Dale, you go, I'm good. So I
guess it is that point now where where teams really
are going to be checking the table and look where
they may be finishing in the next couple of weeks time.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Dale.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
Yeah, it's a bit of a log jam at the
bottom of the bottom of the pile and a few
important games come up this weekend towards towards the top.
It's really looking more like a battle for that last
National League spot in a bit of a showdown between
Withs and Nate Piers in the last few games.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Yeah, interesting stuff at both ends of the table.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
As you say, right, let's go to one of those
games where it's going to be closely fought between these
two teams because they are at that lower end battling
house in the sort of relegation face off. It is
Waterside Karori hosting bottom table North Wellington at Corroy Park.

Speaker 4 (07:28):
Yeah, a pretty big game for both sides here. Waterside
Kory haven't won a league match in nine matches, so
they have plummeted towards the bottom end of the table
and look in a little bit of strife they lost.
They've lost four straights now and have considered twenty five
goals in those four games and it included a six
and all loss up in Naper last weekend, so they've
losed this. It's not looking good for them as they
have games against Mirimar Arrangers and then Wellington Fox to finish.

(07:52):
For North Wellington they probably need to win this one.
They're two points adrift in last place, so they do,
they will jump ahead water Side Krry finished to to
between these two sides eler in the season, but I
needed at North Wellington injury time equalizer from Dion Kentley
to just get that that point. So yeah, pretty pretty
interesting game in terms of the final relegation battle.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Absolutely all right.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
And then at the other end of the table, two
plays former mar Rangers in Nape City Rovers at David Farrington.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
Yeah. Another another big game I guess, probably more so
for Natpier who are chasing that that last our National
League spot. Marimar on a run of eight games unbeat
in the league and completely beat Bay last week with
a brace from Nicholas probably Bobadila and from Jordan Lamb.
A draw today will almost will secure them a National

(08:41):
League spot. For Napier, they have bounced back from from
a five game on the street to when their last
three or literally against lower half teams, but then put
six against tos Ikor last weekend. Uh so maybe have
one in both of the the fixtures between these two
sides in the season, both three nor wins in the
league and then and the Chadem Cup as well. So

(09:03):
any one interesting one for for Napian more so than
the murmur all.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Right they one at two thirty at three per Tiny
hosting Island Bay United. I guess a lot more riding
on this for Island Bay.

Speaker 4 (09:14):
Yeah. Another another relegation battle tonally look look pretty much
to say if they would certainly have been safe if
they managed to hang on to victory last weekend against
Other Heart that they considered twice in the last ten
minutes to draw to too. They put them five points
clear with three games to go, and they'd finished with
Napier and then Mirrima Rangers, which will be a challenge
if they still need points. But you'd think a point

(09:34):
today should be enough. I think they've probably just accumulated
enough throughout the year to probably have enough buffer for
them for Island Bay. As I said, they went down
to Mirrama three zero. They're just two points from safety,
but finished with Wellington Umbar and with the Suburbs two
of the FOURM teams in the competition, so lost day
put them in real danger. Even it draws probably a
bit rocky for them. So we toly went up to

(09:56):
four one earlier in the season and you think that
would be the BEG favorites here. We'll see how that
one plays out at Potoma Moral.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
Yeah all right, three forty five kickoff Wellington Olympic and
it's tough for Rapperhut, isn't it. They're obviously in that
relegation battle and they have to face the top of
table dominant team.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
Yeah, you don't want to be playing top teams when
you when you're in that position for on this Olympic bubble,
but secured another Essentra League title. A win today will
will almost certainly do that. I need plumbousy last couple
of games for them not to happen. They had a
comfortable three and all win over Winter Senis last weekend.
A couple of early goals to Toll Devenport Peterson and

(10:33):
then Jack king Wey Sinclair got them going before Hamas
Watson scored off the bench in the final three minutes.
But they secured what could be a vital point last
weekend with Campbell Webster scoring twice very late to score
against to Tony two points above safety and unlikely unlikely
to get anything from today, and although they did only

(10:54):
lose one mill to Olympic last last time. But they
have Western Suburbs next which will be another tough one,
and then they finish against North Welling which could well
be a huge game. They'll want to be beyond three
points in that final game, but we'll see how it
and it goes latest to night.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
Indeed, and then the late game the Phoenix reserves as
you say, and then Western Suburbs are in third in
that National League conversation going to be an interesting one.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
That phrase a park later on too.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
Yeah, two teams in very different forms. The Phoenix have
lost three straight after losing just once in their first
twelve games, and that included it lost to one to
Olympic last weekend. For Western Suburbs of they lost their
first three of their three of their first four games,
changed coaches and then have only lost once and then
next in the last eleven games. And they had a
big eight one win over North Wellington last weekend. They

(11:41):
kind of scored it regular intervals to really put North
Wellington the sword there, so with the two points inside
that National League spot and then they finished with Upperhart
and Island Bay. So you'd think if they win today
then they should be odds on to claim to further
winds and secure that spot. It's pretty close better between
these two sides in the season it was too too,
but yeah, you think it probably another tie one which

(12:02):
perhaps with given their form might be the same.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
That's going to that, yeah, all right, so looking forward
to that one at five o'clock as well. Dale appreciate
the thorough preview as always interesting round of games, so
we will track those results today and we'll tech nex Saturday.

Speaker 4 (12:15):
Yeah, look forward to to them.
