Speaker 1 (00:00):
Time for football, and we'll start with the women's at
Central League and the action is part of the weekend's rounds.
Got unto way last night of course penulcimate weekend of
the Central League, both men's and women's and it was
a five mil win for second place Wellington Phoenix. Of
course it's their academy under eighteen girls team in this
competition over Miramar Rangers, so consolidating second spots Wellington Phoenix

(00:22):
and they'll be safely second place now come the end
of the competition behind Wellington United. Patoni who are third
won't quite have enough reach nowt to get to the
second place to Wellington Phoenix team. So yeah, good five
mil win for them under lights last night at Wakefield Park.
Let's bring in Hannah Wigdil now to look at the
rest of the weekend's action with three other matches and

(00:45):
some interesting decisive games in terms of the table with
only a couple of weeks to go before some relegation
teams that decided, but also the National League spots are decided.
So let's go to Hannah now, morning to your Hannah.
Should we start up the road in Palmerston North that
even thirty this morning with Palmerston North Marist taking on
Parmerston North Unius.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Yeah, it's great to see a Pami derby. This will
bring out lots of supporters and both teams will be
fired up. Maris defaulted last week as they were lacking
in numbers, which is a really tough spot to be
in at this point in the season and not really
something you want to see from a Central League side.
Palmers North United had a buye so both teams have

(01:26):
fresh legs. United are sitting eighth in the league on
ten points. They're not completely safe from relegation, so they
will need points from this game. Marist in a comfortable
position in the middle of the table, fifth and on
twenty two points. It might be that Marist have got
their squad strengths back up and are ready to go
for this game. But defaulting a game has got to

(01:49):
do something to a coach's confidence and their game plan,
and I suspect Marist will want to come into this
game with a point to prove. We know Palmerston North
United have fight in them and they can put goals
in the back it. They've secured a few really good
results this season, so I would say if you're in
Pami this weekend, go and watch this game. There's a
lot riding on it for Palmerston North United.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
All right, great, yes, I'm sure a lot of support there.
Right one o'clock this afternoon. University are at home at
BOYD Wilson ter for hosting. What a side.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Yeah, okay, I'm not sure that stand a chance in
this game. They are coming off the back of a
one all drawer with Mirimar last week, which will give
them some confidence. However, also coming off the back of
a defeat to Botoni that game was really important for
determining who will finish third in the league and which
team will clinch the National League spot. They'll be really

(02:40):
frustrated with their performance and they'll be fired up, ready
to put this game away early. We know that in
some in these situations, you know, the big pressure game,
snurves can get the better of teams. But if that's
the case here, I think, well, the worst we'll see
is a wobbly start and then a composed and dominant
second half. So either way they're clear favorites. We know

(03:03):
VIC really really need a result and if they if
they can keep Kuori out and they have a real
clear game plan that they execute. We could see a
result and a drawer.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Could be useful.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
What would be useful for VIC, but they really really
need points. They've got a tough final game next week
against Botany. Either way, hardwork game, good one to watch,
a lot riding on it for both.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
Teams indeed, and speaking of Patani, they wrap up the
round with the trip up to Hawk's Bay to take
on that Taradale and it is a big game for Botani,
isn't it huge?

Speaker 3 (03:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Huge as for Karori and I think this game will
be a really good game to watch. Both teams are
top quality and a result for either is not guaranteed
we know, but Tony have got everything riding on it
and they'll be really tough from their win last week,
but they'll be also feeling the pressure. We could see

(03:59):
a wobbly starf again and a little harder to call
your way back into the game against a team like Taradale.
They're sitting six on the ladder, They've got twenty one points.
They have had a string of defeats in recent weeks,
but they've secured some really good wins in the season
and they've really solidified their place in the league Taradale
had to buy last week. They're playing at home. It's

(04:21):
going to be such a tough game for for Tony
coming all the way up there, so it could end
in a draw. But I think this is my pick
of games to watch this week.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
All right.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Yeah, we'll be interesting. Great to catch up Hannah as
the penultimate round gets completed across the weekend, so we'll
Chatnick Saturday, but I'm sure we'll have a bit of
a clearer picture on where everything's at. Right.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Yeah, no, thank you very much, Thank.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
You, Hannah. Appreciate your time and your analysis. As always
had a wignil there with our women's Central League coverage,
and we'll go to the men's at Central League. Now,
Dale Warburton back with us. Morning, Dale, Good morning again.
Penultimate weekend of course, and yeah, I guess continually, Dale,
it's the on the top end of the table and
the bottom end at this point.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Yeah, that's right surprising. There's still sort of I guess,
lots of play for sometimes at the stage of the
season there's a whole bunch of teams in the middle
that can't go anywhere. But it's kind of diminished to
look at the season and still a few player teams
in their relegation battle, and a couple of people still
looking for I guess titles in top top threes for
National League spots too.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Indeed, all right in one of those teams that I guess,
you can say it's pretty much secured. More of my Rangers.
They've got mid table Waterside Carari.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
This afternoon they are actually secured. They beat next to
City Rovers three to two a fortnight ago, which puts
them well inside the top three. They considered it earlier
but then had three ants and Bath. They scored three
unanswered goals, two Toe and Smith and in one smethlist Bobby.
They have had Martin Bueno missing their top goal scorer

(05:52):
for a few weeks now. I'm not sure what it's
long term proagnosis is, but they want them back on
the puck refor the National League in a few weeks time.
They I guess they had a chance to cure a
second place with a winter today, and they still can
technically win the Central League, but it would require an
unlikely set of results from Olympic For Wellside Corey, they've
all but secured their spot in the Central League for

(06:16):
twenty twenty six with a six no win over North Wellington.
It was the third It was their third six results
in a row. The previous two that'd lost them though
West and then make cea rovers. It was their first
win since early May. So the pressure for them has
been well and truly listed and they should cruise for
the last couple of games. You'd think I should be

(06:37):
fairly comfortable in that one.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Yeah, and you mentioned North Wellington. They're obviously tough result
last weekends their bottom of the table by two points.
Can we say yet Dale they are relegation bounds definitively
ahead of their match against the Phoenix today.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
I think you're probably a little bit of a deceiver.
I think they've still got a little bit of an
outside chance they I guess they well, let's looking against
thanks as. Yeah, probably unlikely to get the game out
of it, but they would have a chance perhaps next weekend.
They they they have not upperhart next weekend there are
three points above them, but they have sit in between

(07:15):
US Island Bay just two points. So if they be
upper Hut next week in the hope that Ireland they
lose both of their games, then they'll survive. And it's
not not on possible. It's challenging Island. They do have
a couple of difficult chances. But even if if they
mixed something this afternoon against them, I don't thinks they'll
be pretty stoked with that. The Phoenix, they've dropped down
to fifth after a loss to Whists last time around.

(07:37):
That's the fourth loss and the Rights they're really struggling
towards the back end of the season, but they usually
pick it up again for the National League. But yeah,
they're looking pretty good for top two or three at
the start of the season, but they've slipped off the pace.
But you'd think they should be still still too comfortable
for North Bington there all.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Right, Upper Huts City taking on third placed Western Suburbs.
It'll be interesting when it made stunt.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
Yeah, I guess Western Suburb is just to point today
or next week in against next week against Island Betascura
National League spot most likely to win both of those games.
You'd think it's a good tenure around from them. If
they lost three of their first four games, they've only
lost one since then, and they've also gone on a
golf gloring spree. And I just noticed that they've ticked

(08:18):
over as the most scored, the most goals across the
league even out score Olympic, which is a rare feat
of Fatherhart there. Yeah, so I was looking pretty good
at this stage thanks to that unlikely to draw with
Olympic two weeks ago. They would I really only take
a large threshing today to put them back into the
into the mix. And they've been pretty safe with a

(08:40):
really much better goal difference and an unlikely set of
results would need to happen for them to go down.
So they're probably looking at not too bad, but it
should be a tough, tough wine out and a part
against Western Suburbs all.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
Right, and the leaders Wellings and Olympic, who could seal
the title again today they've got Adam Bay United.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
Yeah, fresh off making the Channel Cup final last week
and the semi final one of the Eastern Suburbs, a
game with penalties after it was locked at one one
after normal and then extra time. The Prinds penalty second
half canceled out and opening from Jack Mintchell for Eastern
Suburbs Scott Bells sla and goal turned hero as he

(09:20):
said to Suburbs fifth penalty to put them in back
to back Channam Cup Finals, turning it up to the Island,
well not really as the adjacent pitch that at Wakefield
Park Island by year. They took a five minar lost
to twenty two weeks ago and leaves them a pretty
vulnerable position for relegation. They obviously played Olympic today and
then they have West sneak next weekend, so it seems

(09:41):
like a bit of a challengeing a couple of weeks
for them. Hard to see them much getting out of
much out of those games, and I guess funnier things
that happened, but even a draw realistically improves their situation.
But you think we have too too much there Animal
well claim I think maybe this title and a rob
if I are not mistaken.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
And Napier City Rovers at home tomorrow, I guess a
little bit for them to play for and chase with
that narrow mathematical chance to get ahead of Western Suburbs
and they are hosting for Tony tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Yeah, here, Napier, they do have a very slim chance
for making the top three. They're five points behind West
and the West to lose both of their games, which
is unlikely given the teams that they are playing. Their
chances really took a hit with that three too long
to Miramar last weekend for Tony pretty much well skew
it this the status and essentially for another another season.
With a five to one over ol In Bay Lukes

(10:33):
to grab theatrick for them for this one of the season.
So not too much to play with us for that one.
But I guess Napier will was. I think that I've
got outside chances as long as it's mathematically possible, But
you think that Napril home should be a bit too
strong there. Wonderful?

Speaker 1 (10:47):
All right, we'll plenty to play for across the penultimate
at Roundsdale. Appreciate your analysis of everything on the points
table and things, and we'll chat next Saturday with a
picture I'm sure be a little bit clearer.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
Yeah. Yeah, we'll do a lot for chend.
