This is your morning show with Michael del Jorn, Riise
and shine time. For the West Coast in the Central
time zone, it's make sure you have that coffee at
breakfast and prepare for work.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
And for those of you on the East Coast, thanks
for taking us along with you on the drive to work.
This is your morning show. I'm Michael del Joorno on Tuesday,
July the ninth year of Our Lord, twenty twenty four.
If you're just waking up, well, chaos at the White
House yesterday. First, the New York Times kind of kneecaps
the President with the report and a roll just visited
the White House eight times and eight months. KJP couldn't
(01:04):
quite clarify, say she had to protect the names, and
the White House releases the statement last night that it's
only been a part of his annual physicals and there
were no signs of any neurological problems. But eight times
and eight months, well, but he was also meeting military
personnel as well. And then I get this from an
email at Michael di atiheartmedia dot com. The neurologist who
(01:26):
met with the president is also involved with his brother
in the hospital deal. Well, there's a big story not
being told. If true, yes, and ready or not? Here
comes the big NATO summit in Washington, d C. Is
the president up to the task? How important is the
American presidency to NATO and world peace? We turned to
our weekly Visit Military and Foreign Policy briefing with James Carafano,
(01:50):
Lieutenant Colonel.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Thanks for joining us, Good morning.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
Hey, it is great to be with you.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
All right, So, while all the Democrats members of Congress
are calling for the president of SEPISOD, the media's on
a full court press to make them step aside. Never mind,
notice that they've been helping protect hiding this up until now.
And here comes the NATO leaders. What do you make
of all of this?
Speaker 4 (02:10):
Well, you know, in many ways, this is a godsend
for Joe Biden. I mean, if you think about it,
the whole idea of moving the summit to July, was
originally supposed to be in May, was too cute by half, right.
It was, oh, we'll move it to July, we'll step
on the Republican convention, we'll make the president look presidential. Right,
(02:32):
So it's pure politics. Is a stupid idea. In many ways,
they got incredibly lucky. First of all, the Russian offensive
literally collapse in Ukraine. If it had gone the other
way and Russia was driving towards Kiev in the middle
of the NATO summit, it would have been a complete disaster.
So they got lucky militarily there, but the other way
(02:52):
they kind of got lucky. Here was all Biden has
to do is get through this week. I think presidential
not fall down, not fall asleep, you know, not being coherent.
And I'm sure there are many Natal leaders that are
willing to, you know, step in and prop them up
(03:13):
and say nice things. I think that's enough to quell
the dumb show. Biden. Look, he met with the world leaders.
You know, you look presidential. I think that's enough to
save his candidacy. That's pair. And again I don't do
politics because you don't mean I'm not a Republican and
a Democrat. But if you look at the food fight
(03:34):
that's going on behind the scenes, you know Harris kind
of throwing ideas for VP candidates saying, well, they can't
push her aside, and then you know people kind of dropping,
you know, dimes on other people. If Biden has pushed aside,
the food fight that would follow would literally, I think,
tear the party apart. And I think they're smart enough
(03:54):
to realize that there's an old thing in the Old West.
Go see the Horizon movie with Kevin cost I loved it,
by the way, dance with the One that Brung You.
It's I think it's too late for them to really
change dance partners. I think I think it'd be a
huge it would not. There is no candidate that they
(04:16):
can put forward that's a national candidate that can can
save them in this election other than voters or some
signing they like what they see in democratic policy. So
I think we are we are. But and this is
the other thing, is this is a nothing burger summit anyway.
In many ways, this is a something about the Joe
(04:37):
Biden launch. You know, will he fall down, will he
fall asleep? Will he say something you know ridiculous?
Speaker 1 (04:44):
And by the way, I might add, the news conference
will be five thirty on Thursday. If we go by
the reports that were leaked through Axios and the Washington Post,
the president is basically a ten am to four pm
president that any anything earlier than that, and anything later
than four pm becomes problematic for his condition. If that's so,
such could happen as you're describing. The president does have
(05:07):
a thirty eight percent approval rating. That's pretty low. Only
twenty three percent of America thinks we're heading in the
right direction. All the swing states are now pretty heavily
leaning towards Donald Trump, and even Virginia, Minnesota, and New
Hampshire they weren't even thought of necessarily as swing states.
His lead is down to three and there are some
polls in Virginia that show the former president Donald Trump ahead.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
So you know, we.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Don't do politics, maybe, but it doesn't look good for
the President's reelection and for a lot of people running
for Senate seats and for House of Representative seats. They
fear they'll go down with him. That's why I think
the pressure will stay. They're his delegates, only he can
release them. So if he's defiant, he's the guy. We'll
(05:51):
just see if the pressure continues to mount.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Well, I look, I think down ballot and again, I
think this is the the the reason why you continue
to go again, not political, but the down ballot guys
can abandon the I want to say, abandon the president,
but they can run on their own that if an
(06:20):
alternate candidate is put up, they will have to run
with that candidate will likely have no strings to really
pull them forward. So in many ways, you know this
is you know, every man or every woman or every
transgendered person for themselves.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
If the election were.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Held today, there'd be forty nine Republican senators forty three
Democrat with eight toss ups. And I don't have to
tell you those toss ups in the way they're leaning.
I think anything a great energy. I mean, the only
thing that would be insane would be continue in this direction,
which is why I think you're seeing such a strong
push for the president's set aside. I think more relevant
to what we're talking talking about. Is all this political
(07:02):
chaos at home, what kind of messages of sending to
these NATO leaders well.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
In the world. I think yeah. I mean, look, I
think everybody understand. I think the difference between now in
twenty sixteen is everybody understands if if there is a
Republican president what that means. And I think they've kind
of baked that into the future. And to be honest,
I don't think in private people admit that none of
(07:30):
it's bad. A revitalized energy policy that puts more affordable, reliable,
depending the energy on the market. If you look at
the Republican platform on foreign policy, it looks almost identical
to Trump's first term. There's nothing really radical in there.
You know, be tough on China, don't abandon NATO, don't
(07:50):
abandon Ukraine. It's it's you know, and actually people for
Trump to deliver, you know, get serious about the Middle East.
Trump delivered a very consistent the strong I mean strong
foreign policy. I mean, people forget that twenty twenty was
all about a lot of things, but it was not
a mandate on Trump's foreign policy. I mean, I think
(08:11):
even Democrats would largely acknowledge that Trump's foreign policy aspected,
and obviously you know, in border immigration, which is a
major thing in the Republican platform. That's Look, the democratic
policies are literally indefensible. And the fact that the President
of the United States just that he would veto a
bill that says only you know, American citizens shoul vote
(08:33):
in American elections, it's just I mean, that is just
jumping the shark on over a pile of sharks.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
I guess are weekly visit with James Carafinal, Lieutenant colonel
with the Heritage Foundation on the largest thing tanks in
the world. You can read his great work and his
colleagues great work at Heritage dot org. What I'm hearing
you say is we have a very unique election, and
that we have a sitting president and a former president
and a foreigner president of just a term ago. So
baked in the cake is no matter who wins, they
(09:01):
have experience with both and they know what they're going
to get in both, so there is no uncertainty in either,
even though the certainties are very different.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
Right. I think that's correct and all, and you have
to kind of ignore all the crazy media, you know,
public statements about Trump, because the reality of people actually
governing is they know all that's just just nonsense, and
they know what to expect. So there's always this thing
you see these arc well you know, the Chinese and
the Russians will jump in and you know, do something
and you know, or there's some kind of October surprise,
(09:31):
and honestly, there's no history of that really happened. The
problem is is I mean, this is the kind of
the Japanese lesson of d date.
Speaker 5 (09:38):
Yeah, you could pull off a pearl harbor, but then
or nine to eleven, but then you always have to
face the possibility that the United States will marshall its.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Power and resources, an economy and military and come out
with you. So, yeah, you can sucker punch the US, sure,
but that's not a guarantee that that you won't wind
up living in a cave.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
By the way, and those sucker punches seem to be
the only that can unite America and get it out
of its polarizing matrix that sometimes in peacetime it finds itself,
which is usually when we're.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
At our best and the enemies are the most vulnerable.
All right, If the.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
Media has been hiding this, if the administration has been
hiding this and the president is seriously cognitively impaired. Translation,
who really is commander in chief right now? Who really
is the CEO of the executive branch of government?
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Does this bring us to an FDR moment?
Speaker 1 (10:36):
And I don't think so, because at least FDR had
his faculties. You don't have to walk to be president.
But you have to be able to think. Is it
an LBJ moment and Biden's just being defied or is
this unique to Joe alone?
Speaker 3 (10:48):
What do you make of?
Speaker 4 (10:49):
Legally and constitutionally? There is no vague middle ground. Joe
Biden is the commander in chief. He's a predace in
the United States. What he says goes, and the only
space between that is and an election is literally a
twenty fifth Amendment. So he is the president United States.
You know, people forget look first of all, you know me,
(11:09):
I'm just honest. I never thought Joe Biden was capable
of being president for thirty years, let alone when he
got elected. So I mean, if we had Joe Biden
on his best day, my question is, would you, in
terms of the actual conduct of government and governance, would
you actually know the difference. But the reality is is
since day one Heating was office, they usually dropped the
(11:30):
lid at two o'clock, so you know, I four o'clock
st up. But the reality is is for four years,
three and a half years, Joe Biden has been working
basically between ten and two and then taking long weekends.
So you know, this has put the competence issue aside.
The level of presidential power and attention has been consistent
(11:54):
for four years. So you know, I don't think it's
I don't think it is issue necessarily of cognitive decline,
because I don't you know, we've had this for for
four years. No a legitimate question, and look I know,
and look, I have no idea of the president's Parkinson's.
I have no idea whatsoever. But I know people who
(12:17):
have Parkinson's who are perfectly competent and lucid and fine,
and maybe they were kind of physically impaired, but they
took medicine and they were good into their nineties. So
I don't think it necessarily that being impaired and having
Parkinson's actually makes you completely incompetent and be president.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
But unless you have the Parkinson's dementia associated with it
and it's ended in vanned state and it gets to
that critical state.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
That's something, right. So bottom line, we're down there, we're
down to one minute, down to one.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
Could he do four more years? I think that's a
legit question.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
Yeah, it doesn't that I don't have any answer to
at this point. Twenty fifth Amendment or let the American
people decide November.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Look, I think we should, you know, unless the president
is actually impaired and cannot cognively make decisions, which I
don't think is actually true. To be honest, I think
that's what we have elections for. We always get chancy
when we start Look, well, look at just what happened
in Brazil. They just indicted the previous president. I mean,
(13:21):
so this trying to subvert democracy because I think it's
always a chancy thing. This is what elections are for.
Honest and fair elections are the best guarantee of a
stable and politically viable society, and so we should fight
for that always.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
This big NATO summit, it's a big from a foreign policy,
national security, world NATO Alliance perspective, a nothing burger. Maybe
there's something on the line politically for Joe if he
has good enough.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
In a sense. It's a good nothing burger, right, I mean,
NATO I think is actually do so. I said this
the other day. I think this is really true if
you look at the correlation of forces, not just the
number of tanks and stuff, but the quality and the
command and everything else. The NATO frontier against Russia, which
is the chief destabilizing threat to the transplant community, the
NATO frontier is arguably more favorable for NATO today than
(14:22):
it was during the Cold War when the front line
was in West Germany. James, it is kind of a
nothing burger, but we're kind of not in a bad place,
which is why. By the way, when you look at
the Republican platform, its position on NATO is NATO is
important to the US.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Senor Colonel James Carafinal, thank you so much for your time.
Look forward to next week or sooner if conditions warrened.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
This is your morning show with Michael Deltono.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
We love to hear from you, either using the talkback
button on your iHeartRadio app or just old fashioned email.
Michael di at iHeartMedia dot com Red Rights. I hope
Trump doesn't announce his VP pick today. Biden's negative news cycle,
all the media oxygen in the room. Trump doesn't need
to step on that. A VP pick would do that,
wait until the week of the convention. Well, it's upon us.
(15:09):
This is now when traditionally you would do it. And
the reason this comes up is the President Donald former
President Donald Trump will be holding a rally at his
Trump National Durrow Miami, and we know Marco Rubio is
going to be there, and we know this is when
you traditionally announce your VP a week ahead of the convention.
So as today the day, what is in the agenda?
Mindy Grossman has more from Miami.
Speaker 6 (15:31):
Trump's rallies expected to focus on attacking President Biden's policies,
along with the debate debacle that has led many Democratic
lawmakers and donors to call for Biden to bow out
of the race. Trump's not expected to announce his running mate,
although there are rumors US Senator Marco Rubio is a
top contender. The rally comes the day after Jill Biden
was in Tampa stumping for support, and it also comes
(15:53):
less than a week before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee,
where Trump will be formally nominated to the GOP ticket.
Wendy Gershman, Miami.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
Boy, how things have changed. Remember when we knew all
that money was going to be dumped into Florida. Could
it become a swing state? Could Biden make a push
with abortion with marijuana and get a lot of votes?
And boy has that blown up? The America people have
kind of sorted out abortion at the state level, And boy,
the president has his own challenges and even getting to
the convention. Reports say a Russian missile hit a children's
(16:25):
hospital in Ukraine.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
Michael Kasner reports he's.
Speaker 7 (16:27):
Mayor confirmed the attack on his city, calling it one
of the worst. In two years of war. Russia hit
targets in Kievan around the country, including with hypersonic missiles.
More than twenty were killed across the country and the
attacks that targeted apartment buildings and infrastructure. Russia invaded Ukraine
about two and a half years ago. I'm Michael Cassner.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
Lebron James has agreed to a two year, one hundred
and forty million dollar contract with the Lakers that will
allow him to play with his son Bronnie, who signed
a seven point nine million dollar four year deal.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Dad gets a lot more money than some, but they
get their pr where the two can play together. Hey,
it's me Michael.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
Your morning show is heard live from five to eight
am Central, six to nine am Eastern, three to six
am Pacific on great radio stations like News Radio eleven
ninety k EX in Portland, US Talk five point fifty
k FYI, and Phoenix, Arizona Freedom one oh four seven
in Washington, d C. We'd love to have you join
us live in the morning, even take us along on
the drive to work. But better late than never. Enjoyed
(17:26):
the podcast. Thanks for waking up with your morning show.
I'm Michael del Jorno. Well, we've kicked around a lot
of names for potential vps for Donald Trump, Marco Rubio,
Governor DeSantis, Senator Scott J. D. Bance, Telsea Gabbard, Sarah
Hakkab Sanders, the governor of Arkansas. Is today the day
we find out a big rally in Miami and we
(17:48):
know Marco Rubio is going to be there, is today
the day we.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
Find out who the VP is.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
Also, we have the drip, Drip Drip yesterday. I guess
it was the New York Times that took out the
president's nees, releasing that a neurologist, Parkinson's expert had visited
the president eight times in eight months. That created chaos
at the White House news briefing. I presume John Decker
you were there for.
Speaker 8 (18:11):
That, Tylor Michael, Yes, good to be with you today.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
That was a crazy affair.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
And then last night the White House releases, well, yes,
he's been there as a part of the President's annual
physical and he also comes to the White House to
treat military officials. This is just adding to the drip
drip drift of is Joe Biden up to being president today,
let alone the next four years? And the president, whether
it's denial or defiance, he ain't budget. That's really the headline.
Speaker 8 (18:41):
Yeah, that's right everything he said. Let's just add a
few more things to the mix here. Last night, the
President in the early evening had a twenty minute long
virtual meeting with the Congressional Black Caucus. They essentially unanimously
reindorsed the president. The same thing happened with the Congressional
Hispanic Caucus. They too essentially reindorsed President Biden as the
(19:04):
Democratic nominee. So a bit of good news yesterday for
the president. The blood letting is essentially stopped, at least
in a temporary way, and we'll see what happens. You know,
there's a press conference that will happen as solo press
conference with the President this week, just two days from now.
I think that's going to be a very important moment
(19:25):
for the president because most, if not many, of the
questions will be focused on his mental and physical well being,
you know, after the performance that he had in that
debate almost two weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
I think it was Axios, not Washington Post, but feel well,
I never have to encourage you to correct me. But
remember when they came out with the you know, the
whole thing about the president basically being a ten to
four pm president. You get outside that window and he
doesn't perform very well cognitively. Well, this news conference will
be about five thirty right Eastern time. That'd be outside
(19:59):
that win so all eyes will be on the president
how he handles that news conference on Thursday, I would presume.
Speaker 8 (20:06):
Well, that's right, you know, and there are other events
that are happening. It's a busy week for the president. Tomorrow,
in particular, I'll be at the pool reporter tomorrow, so
I'll be with the President quite a bit tomorrow. Yesterday
he's going to be meeting with leaders at the AFL CIO.
He's attending two meetings associated with the NATO summit happening
(20:26):
here in Washington, d C. He's meeting with the new
British Prime Minister in the Oval Office, And in the evening,
he's hosting all of his counterparts for a dinner at
the White House associated with the seventy fifth anniversary of NATO.
So busy day for the president tomorrow, that dinner obviously
happening well after eight pm, and I'll be there. I'll
(20:49):
see how he does, I'll see how he performs, very
close to him, and I think that every one of
these moments are so important given what we saw happen
two weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
White House correspondent and attorney John Decker joining us. All right,
So the approval rating for the presidents at thirty eight percent.
No one's really ever won the White House with an
approval rating that low. Right direction, wrong direction. We covered
this yesterday. Twenty three percent think we're heading in the
right direction. Sixty six point nine percent think we're hitting
in the wrong direction. You go to swing states, he's
losing virtually all of them some new swing states. He's
(21:22):
only got three point leads the electoral college map. If
it were held today and it will not be today,
Trump would win with three hundred and twelve electoral college votes.
And then you go to the Senate, it's forty nine Republican,
forty three Democrat, with eight toss ups that are leading
Republican and of course a lot of members of Congress
concerned that if the president goes down, he'll take them
down with him. So the question becomes, if the president loses,
(21:43):
how do you not lose the Senate and further lose
the House in the process. So here came everybody back
to Congress yesterday and we were expecting some push from
them to show the president the door.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
Didn't really see it, did we?
Speaker 8 (21:58):
No, we didn't. And it's the NATO summit, I think
is going to mean that you will not see Democrats
really come out and drove, if anything like that in
terms of criticism of the president while these foreign leaders
are here in Washington, d c. So that buys the
president some more time, and I think that that's a
(22:18):
good thing for him politically. But you know, look, that's
the reason why there will be so much attention on
what happens two days from now, July the eleventh, for
this solo press conference. You know, if we don't really
pay that much attention to these types of things, but
they don't happen that often, and that's the reason why
we are going to pay a lot of attention to
the solo press conference two days from now.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
And to my point, I think Senator John Tester, who's
looking like he's in a really tough spot, the Democrat
senator from Montana, he's the only one that I know
of that came out yesterday and say that the president
has got to prove to the American people, including me,
that he's up for another four years. But other than him,
I don't really remember anybody else necessarily coming out.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Did I miss anything?
Speaker 8 (23:03):
Well, Mark Warner has said, you know, similar types of things,
but he has not urged the presidents to bow out
of the presidential race publicly, and there have been no
of Democratic US senators that have done that, So, you know, look,
he's in a good position. Even progressive like Alexandria Cassio
Cortez yesterday essentially reindorsing Joe Biden as a Democratic nominee.
(23:27):
So they're circling the wagons around President Biden. They want
to make what happened two weeks ago story that no
one's really talking about much anymore. But I think at
the today's White House briefing, you're going to see more
questions focused on this issue of this Parkinson specialist who
has visited the White House on a number of occasions,
(23:49):
and you know, still some unanswered questions in regards to
that particular issue, and.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
A very busy week leading up to a very important
news conference Thursday, after the normal hours where he performs well,
will the President be at well, One thing's for sure.
You'll be following him and you're always up to the task.
John Decker, we'll talk more tomorrow. Thanks for joining us,
Thank you so much. Forty one minutes after the outfage,
just waking up, Joe Biden is not budging.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
Here's Brian stood with our Road to the White House.
Speaker 9 (24:22):
Road to the White House twenty twenty four. President Biden
says he's not going anywhere. Biden called into MSNBC Monday
morning to try and make his case for staying in
the twenty twenty four race after questions were raised about
his shaky debate performance.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
That was wrong that night.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
It's not like it could come to me.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
That's one night and go away.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
That's friving out.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
I've been my show.
Speaker 9 (24:47):
Since then, more Democrats have reportedly asked him to drop
out due to concerns about his mental fitness. The President
claimed average Democrats want him to stay, and he's not
going to listen to elites calling for him to exit.
He again insisted his debate performance was due to an
illness in Washington. I'm Brian Shook.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
Well, the White House is facing a barrage of questions
and we expect it to continue today about the mental
fitness of the president. Monday's press briefing became very contentious
following a report that a Parkinson's disease neurologist expert visited
the White House eight times and eight months.
Speaker 10 (25:23):
Probably I hear you, guys, guys.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
Press Secretary Caring Jean Pierre would not confirm why the
expert met with White House physicians, citing privacy issues. This
comes as Biden is facing scrutiny over his age and
ability to serve another four years.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
Wait wait, wait, wait a second, Well, it wasn't a second.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
It was more like hours Later last night, the White
House put out a memo from the presidential physician, doctor
Kevin O'Connor, who said the visits from the neurological specialists
were part of Biden's annual physicals.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
You don't have eight.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
You don't have annual physicals every month for eight consecutive months,
to which she explained he was also there for some
military personnel that were assigned at the White House, and
as for the President, O'Connor said, there were no findings
that were consistent with any type of central neurological disorder
like stroke, multiple sclerosis, or Parkinson's And ready or not,
(26:25):
the President is going to host the NATO summit this
week and the leaders from around the world are coming
to Washington for the seventy fifth anniversary of the alliance.
John Kirby said NATO has been a major focus of
the Biden administration.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
For seventy five years.
Speaker 11 (26:38):
NATO has served a vital role when protecting the American
people and making.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
The world a less dangerous place.
Speaker 11 (26:43):
NATO is the strongest defensive alliance in history, and today
it is bigger, stronger, better resource, and more united than
ever before, in large part due to President Biden's leadership.
Speaker 12 (26:52):
Over the last three years.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
Well read Hey, Philadelphia radio host is fired why she
used the questions that were provided by the Biden Care
campaign for an interview with the president. Lisa Taylor has more.
Speaker 13 (27:03):
Andrea Laffel Sanders mutually left the station after she said
on CNN that she was given a list of eight
questions from the Biden campaign and she approved four of them.
The interview came after Biden's shaky debate performance against former
President Trump. A Biden administration official told CBS News they
do not condition interviews on acceptance at these questions, and
any host is free to ask any question they please. I'mly,
(27:26):
said Taylor.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
And how did Joe do during that interview?
Speaker 7 (27:29):
You asked Bottle lamb crowd to Bess, I said, the
first vice president, first black woman with a black president.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
He is the first black woman to serve with a
black president. That's how he did. What does Trump make
of all this chaos on the left? Mark Mayfield has
that story.
Speaker 12 (27:52):
Former President Trump believes that President Biden will remain in
the race.
Speaker 14 (27:55):
This November clo they cover for him, and they still
are sort of covering, but now it's getting very difficult
to do that, and you know, it looks to me
like he may very well stay, and he's got an
ego and he doesn't want to.
Speaker 12 (28:07):
In an interview with Fox News Monday, Trump said that
he thinks Biden's wife Jill would like him to stay,
and that nobody wants to give that up that way,
referring to being potentially foced out. Trump predicted that Vice
President Harris would become the nominee if Biden were to
drop out, but said Biden has all the power. During
a phone interview with MSNBC on Monday, Biden tried to
address concerns coming from his own party about his mental fitness.
(28:29):
He said those Democrats wanting him to drop out should
run against him and challenge him at the DNC in August.
And the White House is facing a barrage of questions
over the mental fitness of President Biden. Monday's press briefing
became contentious following a report that a Parkinson's disease expert
has visited the White House eight times over an eight
month period. That's politics, Mark Neefield, NBC News Radio.
Speaker 1 (28:51):
Jerry selection expected to start today in the Alec Baldwin
manslaughter trial.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
Kristin Mark reports.
Speaker 15 (28:58):
This after a judge rule during a pre trial hearing
in Santa Fe Monday that evidence related to Baldwin's role
as a producer for the film Rest will not be
used in the case against the award winning actor. Baldwin
was rehearsing with a prop gun on set in New
Mexico when it went off, firing a live round and
killing cinematographer Helena Hutchins in twenty twenty one. He faces
(29:19):
eighteen months in jail if convicted. Baldwyn tried to get
the charge against him dismissed, but was not successful. Armorer
Hannah gucieraz Reed was convicted of involuntary manslaughter earlier this
year and is currently serving an eighteen month sentence.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
Kristin Marks NBC News Radio, well, I was a.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
Big fan of Seinfeld. To bet I wasn't a collector.
The Yankees. George Costanza bobblehead doll is reselling for big
bucks on eBay.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
I'll lease the g reports that will dipped. What are
you talking about? You tipped a chip, It took a bite,
and you tipped again.
Speaker 10 (29:50):
Last Friday night, the Yankees gave out a Bobblehead doll
of the beloved Seinfeld character played by actor Jason Alexander
on the hit sitcom to the first e eighteen thousand
fans at the stadium. As a Monday afternoon. The dolls
were reselling for more than two hundred dollars on eBay. Alexander,
who grew up in Newark, New Jersey, tweeted, I'm so
(30:11):
glad Bobblehead George was a fan fave. Lisa g NBC
News Radio, New York.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
And that's your top five stories of the day.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
Hey, I'm Olympic Gold medal of Scott Hamilton and my
morning show is your morning show with Michael del Jornam.
Speaker 1 (30:28):
There's so much drip, drip drip II you might need
a plumber, not a talk show host. But good morning,
fifty three minutes after the hour, seven minutes to be
to work by on time. Thanks for taking us along
for the drive to work. This is your morning show,
and I'm Michael del Jornam.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
Well, we got.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
Record setting heat wave continuing in the West. Who've got
the rain from barrel heading into Oklahoma, Arkansas and southern Missouri.
Is that Parkinson's dementia or both?
Speaker 3 (30:53):
Oh? My for Joe Biden. What about Donald Trump? He's
in Miami for a big rally. Marco Rubio is going
to be there.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
This is about the time you normally announce your VEEP
a week ahead of your convention. Is this the day
Rory O'Neil, your morning show national correspondent, is joining us.
Good morning, Rory, Hey, Good morning Michael.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
Are you calling me a drip? Is that what that
was about? You're not a drip. No, it's a drip, drip,
drip from Washington. Oh, gotcha, You're a no, it all
not a drip. Well, it could be the day, right.
Speaker 16 (31:22):
It's possible, you were saying last hour, you think it is.
I personally don't. You heard the former president with hand
to the last night explaining that he hasn't made up
his mind. Of course, in an interview a month ago,
he said he did make up his mind, and that
he might even wait to make the announcement until the
convention is already underway. So God bless the printing presses
(31:44):
in Milwaukee.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
Yeah, that's a lot of signs to make in a hurry.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
You know. One of the most exciting conventions of my life,
believe it or not. I wasn't a lie for the
Kennedy one was Ronald Reagan and hw Bush and there
was a lot of excitement. There's one where it was
announced at the convention a necessity to unite the party obviously,
but you know.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
There's nothing wrong with that.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
And the negative news cycle towards the president, why would
you want to rob that?
Speaker 3 (32:12):
I think it points to your right and I'm wrong.
Speaker 17 (32:16):
And this was supposed to be the week Donald Trump
was getting sentenced for his criminal conviction out of New York, right,
So then the Supreme Court had its ruling and now
the sentencing is getting put off to September.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
So on the Trump.
Speaker 16 (32:29):
Campaign political calendar, the idea was, probably we'll have sentencing, okay,
we'll do the announcement for VP right after it to
pivot the topic and get away from it and then
move on to the convention. Now you've got Democrats imploding,
no sentencing hearing, so you're really free to do whatever
you want when it comes to making this announcement. Of course,
(32:50):
this rally being held tonight in Durrell. Marc Rubio canceled
a plan speech in DC to be with Donald Trump tonight.
A lot of Floridians obviously will be down there. By
the way, it's an outdoor rally. They're going to start
gathering at two pm in July and South Florida in
their humidity, the rain. Anyway, Yeah, the people used to
(33:13):
just I'm telling you, when you see the crowd shot,
appreciate the sacrifice those.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
People in looking that is not going to be comfortable.
You also bring up the timing of things. This is
when Trump would have been getting sentenced. By the way,
we should also mentioned the judge says that's now been
postponed to I think was September eighteenth, if it is
still necessary, because we don't know if the court, if
the case is even going to hold up. This is
(33:38):
also the plan from the White House. They move this
NATO summit from I believe May till now, hoping this
would make the president look really presidential with national leaders
right before the Republican Convention, and now everybody's holding their
breath that he can get.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
Through the news conference on Thursday.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
So yeah, the timing of all of this isn't as
it was orchestra So narratives died of reality, that's for sure.
All right, names that are on the list I think
Marco Rubio is on that list. I'm not so certain
DeSantis is. We also wonder about Senator Scott J. D
Vance has been talked about a lot, Sarah Huckabee, Sanders,
Taulsey Gabbard.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
Are we sure it's just Rubio? JV.
Speaker 16 (34:18):
Vance, Doug Bergham. I would put he's on the top
of my list. I think Rubio is really pushing to
be Secretary of State. I don't think he wants to
be VP. I think that would be his move. But
also keep in mind, whether it's Biden or Trump, there
are going to be one more term. So we are
going to start the twenty twenty eight campaign on November sixth,
and whoever the VP is is obviously going to have
(34:39):
a leg up, either for the Democrats or the republic.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
And the future of trump Ism and the future of
trump Ism within the party, that's what makes the Rubio
DeSantis kind of come to the top. Well, we'll find
out later today in Durrell in the heat and humidity,
and Roy will report on it with us tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
Talk to you then, great reporting, worry Thanks by another
day gone. I don't know, time flies, whether you're having
fun or not. We're all in this together.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
This is your morning show with Michael del Jo No
