Speaker 2 (00:15):
Two three starting your morning off right.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
A new way of talk, a new way of understanding,
because we're in this to give. This is your morning
show with Michael o'dill trum.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Fifty minutes of non stop hits today, twenty seconds at
a time you'll be hearing. Please to stampeders this hour.
We just ever been a talk show host till Tuesday
promoted his Rejoin Music Welcome to Wednesday, the seventeenth of July.
I got a single headline for you. I didn't think
the RNC could keep it going and top last night
(00:52):
or Monday night, but they did last night. And many aspire,
but few attain when it comes to convey ancient themes,
they delivered. I don't even know who to give the
game ball to. Marco Rubio looked presidential and everything I
(01:13):
have seen in Marco Rubio over the years and felt
looking at Marco Rubio last night, I have a quiet
confidence he's going to be president someday. The vek Ramaswami.
Not since Barack Obama in two thousand and four. And
I remember turning to my wife, having never heard his
name before or seen him before. I turned to my
(01:35):
wife and I go, that guy's going to be president. Now.
I never would have dreamt the next election, mister del Jorno,
that was, you know, a remarkable rise. The VEX speech
was even stronger than that. It was the greatest political
speech I've ever seen in my life. And I'm a
student of John F. Kennedy. That's how good it was.
(01:59):
I thought. Sarah Sarah Hackabie Sanders was just the most
genuine and real and probably very effective. His daughter in
law did a spectacular job to close the evening, and
there were many highlights in between. The heaviest lifting fell
on Nicki Haley. Look, you can see all of Donald
(02:26):
Trump's enemies surrounding him and endorsing him genuinely. But Nicki
Haley had the toughest lift and she did it. Nick Hale,
Nikki Haley, and once again, the everyday people, Now this
falls under that many aspire, but few attang. In theory,
(02:52):
it's a good idea. Pulling it off difficult. Two nights
in a row, they pulled it off. Now here's what
I think the strategy is. Because you may look at
it and say, well, wh why are you putting everyday
people in prime time? You know there's a reason. It
was the very first thing I insisted when we built
(03:13):
this show. And I'll come right out and saying that
if it sounds negative, I don't mean it too. It's
just very observant. I am sick and tired. Well, to
quote the mom last night, I'm sick and tired of
being sick and tired of egomaniac hosts who make it
all about them. And you can turn on the radio
and find them. Everything will come back to them. It's
(03:37):
always about them, Them trying to make you think they're
the smartest person, and nobody gets it like them. Them
trying to make you think they have the greatest life
in the world compared to yours. But oh, they'll find
some time for you. No, we wanted to make this
show completely about you. It takes a certain amount of
(04:01):
talent to pull that off. But that aside, I would say,
I hope it's interchangeable. If I were to die tomorrow,
the show should continue. Only all of you dying tomorrow
would end this show because it's really about you. It's
about your journey of understanding, your need to be informed,
(04:27):
your need to have things to think about, not be
told how to think. Frankly, at the end of the day,
the hope of America is not found in Donald Trump
or any politician, any talk show host, any great musician
or singer. It's in you. What America really needs is
every one of you to find your north star. I
(04:52):
hope you find it in Christ. I hope you find
it in the Declaration of Independence. I hope you find
it the Constitution. I hope you find it in your
spouse and your children and your grandchildren, and you living
that you'll change the world around you and collectively will
(05:12):
change the world. Without it, we've got nothing but like
little shooting stars that come and go and pass, but
no real change. It's interesting. I went to Washington very young,
(05:36):
and at first, I have to tell you it was
like history books coming to life. And that was back
in a day where you could walk around at night
and look in the windows of the Capitol. You had
access to everything. I'll never forget. One night I was
walking around the White House, returned up near the house.
I remember talking to Brit Hume. I'll tell you how
long this is ago. This was Britt was young. Oh boy,
(06:01):
you know you just a walk home time. Then I
went back later having been involved in radio and politics.
Sheal fee. I never left the place wanting to shower quicker.
I never left. And it wasn't rage anger, it was
(06:28):
righteous indignation anger. I just it was disgusting to me,
and it was all the things that I saw. It
was just a game to them. What you see is
what's prepared for you to see. What's really going on
is this whole little world. And I thought it was disgusting.
I hated it, so naturally God would call me to
(06:49):
talk about it. Congratulations. I mean, all I do is
I love Jesus, I love my wife, I love my kids,
I love other people. I want to be there to
help those who are hurting, and I love sports. I
really hate politics, which makes me very uniquely qualified to
look you in the eye and tell you over time,
I have no use for Republicans or Democrats. Usually Democrats
(07:14):
for what they believe Republicans for what they failed to
live that they believe. But these first two nights of
this convention, and I say, I'm sixty, going to be
sixty years old in August, I have access to history.
I've actually watched more footage of the nineteen sixty Democratic
(07:36):
Convention probably than any other. So I have about sixty
years of convention watching in me and then some through history.
These first two nights far and away the best convention
(07:57):
I've ever seen. And every night I go, well, how
do you keep them metal? You know, you don't want
this to be like the Super Bowl where you start
watching the pregame show at nine in the morning and
by the time we're ready to kick off, you're burnt out.
You sick of football.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
Oh never had that, aby, girl, don't even play.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
I know AOC you've never had that happen. By the way,
a tip to all U sports fans out there, don't
start watching the Super Bowl pregame until at least afternoon.
Come on, man, I did it one time, starting at
ninety I'm seriously if I kickoff, I was like, all right,
I can't take it anymore. Can we get the game over with?
I mean I just I was bioed out, and you know,
(08:37):
so you know, I was thinking to myself, well, Monday
was magical. How do you top that Tuesday eclipse? Monday?
Now I'm sitting here in real time with you on
Wednesday morning, I'm saying, how they gonna top last night tonight?
And if they do, I'm gonna be in awe. And
if Trump can close it down on Thursday, I will
(08:58):
call this the most effective great convention I've ever witnessed.
And I would have said it if it was the Democrats.
In all of it, I'm in awe of two things.
How deep this bench is. When Vevec Ramaswami finished his speech,
I thought, oh poop, Donald Trump messed up. This was
(09:26):
the guy to turn the next eight years over to
after you're done. And then by the time Marco Rubio finished,
I went, oh poop, you made a big mistake. By
the way, I love to play poker, not for money,
not for high stakes. Though I haven't lost the thing
(09:50):
about poker. Most people don't get it. Really, I mean
it is. You can't say it's not about the cards,
you know, because the cards play into the strategy that
you choose. But you're ultimately not playing cards, You're playing
other people. Yeah, that's why noticing their tells, their tendencies,
their mannerisms. I have to tell you I am thoroughly
convinced Donald Trump wanted Marco Rubio. And if you go
(10:14):
back and watch last night's convention, you'll see it right
on his face. You could see it on his face
when he walked out as he was talking. I guarantee
you Donald Trump wants to turn the Republican Party over
to Marco Rubio when he's gone, and it may still
happen somehow, someway. I could see it in his face.
If I was playing poker with Donald Trump, I'd go,
(10:35):
he's your guy, not advance. I can see it, just
like you can tell you know, parents aren't supposed to
have favorites. Oh, I see it all the time.
Speaker 5 (10:42):
Yeah, I know, on the apple of their eye and
the pain in their walks in the room.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
But I want to make this simple point. This isn't
just a slam on Democrats who have no bench. I mean,
they got Kamala, they got Gavin Newsom and maybe a
former first Lady. That's it. They have no rising stars.
I think this governor in Maryland has the potential to
(11:13):
be one, but he hasn't proven of me he's going
to be. Last night I saw and I'm not joking,
four people, well actually five if you include those that
were sitting in well six if you include those that
were sitting and watching. I saw about five people that
might be presidents someday, are likely to be presidents someday.
(11:40):
That's a bench and they're delivering every time they come
to the plate in reaching undecided voters, those who hate
Trump but want to go back to his policies and
success and closing that deal and uniting the party. But
they're ready to lead today. Ron DeSantis would be a
(12:02):
great president tomorrow that that Ramazan wid be great president tomorrow.
Marco Rubio might be the best of all of them tomorrow.
Jd Vance is ready. What a bench? What a convention?
The how do you top Tuesday night? Wednesday? And I think,
(12:28):
and this is this is the biggest home run in
the toughest to pull off. How do you get everyday
people in a government of fore and by the people
to unite the country, not politicians, the people themselves, inspiring
(12:51):
each other and telling their stories, whether it's a need
or want two nights in a row. They've done it
last night powerfully. Can they do it a third Because
(13:15):
just as they're potentially on their way to one of
the greatest landslides in American political history, they are halfway
to the greatest convention that has ever happened. Many have
strived to achieve it. They're achieving it every night. And
I don't like, I'm not a big fan of either side,
(13:37):
but I'm a gnaw of what they're doing this time.
So in awe, I'm wondering if there's a greater inspiration
behind this, because there's a greater hour ahead. This is
Your Morning Show with Michael Del Trono. Last night, Nikki
Haley at the heavy Lifting and she made her endorsement
Crystal Clear reports they Secret Service received intelligence that the
(14:00):
Iranian government is plotting to try to kill President Trump.
Well of a twenty year old who's barely shot a
gun before it can get in one hundred yards. That
could be trouble for this Secret Service. And Elon Musk
with more bad news. He's moving a SpaceX headquarters from
California to Texas. More bad news for Gavin Newsom. Aaron
Rayal's joining US we'll look at the swing state cost
(14:21):
of housing. You know, I was gonna before we even
started to tell you that when we started this at
the beginning of the year, inflation in the economy was
number one. It's the economy, stupid, This would fall under that.
Border was two. Abortion was third, then jobs, healthcare, and
national security. And all we've seen is Israel take a
shape of its own and border surge to where it's
almost tied with the economy. But America has been pretty
(14:43):
consistent about what's hurting, and it's their pocketbook and housing
and the dream of home ownership, Well that's really taken
a hit in the last four years. And your numbers
add to.
Speaker 6 (14:54):
That, indeed, and particularly in swing skates. And here's the
thing with home ownership and housing in general, it's a
mainstay in politics because it directly impacts almost everyone in
the country. Yes, we can talk about Biden's age, we
can talk about the assassination, we can talk about JD.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Vans.
Speaker 6 (15:12):
Do you want to know what is always on your mind?
Speaker 1 (15:14):
Your housing costs.
Speaker 6 (15:15):
So if you look at swing states, which this year
or Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina
housing has skyrocketed. The cost it's skyrocketed in both blue
and red states and swing states, but home buyers medium
housing payment up ninety five percent record two thousand dollars
in Red states, it's up eighty three percent in Blue
(15:36):
states thirty three hundred. Blue states are more expensive to
begin with, but the median home sale price in a
swing state is up forty percent to three hundred and
sixteen thousand dollars. These numbers are not affordable, They are
not sustainable, and a typical family would have to spend
over a third of their earnings to afford a medium
priced home at a swing state. Back in twenty twenty two,
(15:58):
you only need twenty percent beer needs.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Yeah, and twenty five is the rule of thumb, you know.
And that's assuming you have no other debt. Uh So
that is dramatic, and that is in the swing states,
which is why the Republican strategy of this convention is
so brilliant. They know Joe Biden has lost the race.
They know people can compare life before Joe Biden to today.
(16:21):
All they gotta do is bridge the gap of Trump.
And that's why all the messages are, hey, look you mean,
not like his face, you may not like his hair,
you may not like his tweets, but you should. And
that's why they're trying to reach these people in these
swing states which will decide the election. And that's why
he's in it and it's his to blow. And then
that's on top of what after you pay that twice
(16:41):
as much money a high interest rate to boot good.
Speaker 6 (16:44):
Luck exactly, good luck an the question becomes like, how
did this happen? How in four short years do you
need almost fifteen percent more income? And by the way,
the median household income and swing states magnet it's up
twenty eight seventy nine.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Thous Oh no, it is I'm Shorge. Hey, it's me Michael.
Your morning show can be hurt live five to eight
am Central, six to nine Eastern and great cities like Jackson, Mississippi, Akron, Ohio,
or Columbus, Georgia. We'd love to be a part of
your morning routine and we're grateful you're here now. Enjoy
the podcast everywhere on your iHeartRadio app. Thanks for waking
(17:22):
up with your morning show. You my early first hour
Platinum card listeners. We appreciate you very much and Welcome
to Wednesday, July, the seventeenth year of Our Lord, twenty
twenty four. Well, I can tell you this. I would
have never guessed that the Republicans could pull off a
better night Tuesday than they pulled off Monday. And I
don't even remember Monday. Now, after Tuesday and Tuesday night,
(17:45):
last night was such perfection. Come on, there's no way
they can do it again tonight. One of the things
that should strike you is how deep their benches. I
think my number one to seven, they're about seven. When
I say ready to be president tomorrow, Like Ben Carson
(18:05):
is ready to be president of the United States tomorrow.
I'd be proud to call Ben Carson my children's and
my president, but he's never going to be president. I'm
talking about at least four or five that are ready
to be president and are electable and know how to
get elected today. That's a deep bench. The Democrat's got
(18:29):
to be sitting watching, going, wow, we don't have this
many stars. Their only hope and their only prayer is
no one is watching. I'm in awe of how well
they're pulling off. This might be the best convention I
have seen in strategy and execution. In my lifetime. Now
(18:53):
the program director in me is trying to figure out
how they pulled it off. Finally, and I've come to
these two conclusions. Number One, this party has been shaped
by court and assassination, and it's created a perfection convention.
(19:15):
They arrived unified. In fact, last night was one of
the only heavy lifts the unification needed. I would even
put Nicky Haley in the conversation as far as a
highlight from last night. But what she did was very important,
very necessary, and she pulled it off. That was what
we call tactgic. There was a strategic, tactical thing that
(19:41):
had to happen, and she pulled it off. Boring as
it was, it probably was the star of the night.
And the way I always do this whenever I tell
my wife, don't let me forget. I never forget. But
if I don't tell her that, I will forget. So
I know he told you to remind me about Trump. Yeah,
(20:03):
you know the first night, I was like, okay, they
bring him so we can see he's okay, now letting
you hear from him. They're saving that for Thursday. But
having him sit there, you know, are people going to
perceive this like he's some kind of a mafia don
You know, nobody comes out and speaks unless the don's
staring at you or you know, in a split screen.
(20:24):
Is that to make it about him? These are the
things that concerned me, especially when I heard he was
coming back for a second night. No, it's had the
opposite effect. It's made it about us and not him
by him sitting there. Don't treat him like some savior.
Don't treat him like some star that you won't get
to see until Thursday when he comes out. And then
(20:48):
using prime time to have everyday Americans talk passionately about
how politics really impacts lives and how it must change.
Made it all about us. And then when you sprinkle
in the political leaders and they deliver speeches like they
(21:09):
did last night, it's perfection, perfection forged by court. I
think they saw how Donald Trump being trapped in court
and having others come to him was more effective. Make
no mistake about it, all these people telling you, and
I think Trump's got to do some of this Thursday.
(21:31):
Trump's got to look in the camera and say, look,
he may not like me, there's a lot of people
that don't, but did you like your life better. He's
got to do that, and if he has been changed
in some way by this near death experience, he needs
to say it. But leading up to it all week long,
having others do the talking for him and about him.
(21:52):
It worked outside the courtroom, and it's working this week
in the convention. To Perfection highlights. I wouldn't know where
to begin, but here's a quick montage. Sarah Huckabee Sanders,
as a FOREM employee, told the most amazing story when
(22:14):
people were calling her fat and ugly, when a mom
at her kids preschool was spitting on her car, when
all the media was attacking her as they were attacking Trump.
I have daughters. That's tough on a woman. And Donald
Trump didn't punch anybody in the face. He pulled her aside.
(22:37):
He looked her in the eye and said, you're smart,
you're beautiful, and you're great at your job. That's why
they're attacking you. Keep going. And she talked about as Laura,
his daughter in law, did, Trump's ability to see in
others what they don't even see in themselves yet. So
(22:58):
we'll start with the shigehlighters. Not the best part of speech,
but I think it's the part of the speech that
we might really be experiencing because I don't have an explanation.
As I said earlier, I'm not a fan of the
Republican Party or the Democrat Party. In fact, I think
they're the problem, Democrats for what they believe and Republicans
for failing to live it. Something has changed. A perfect
(23:23):
convention has been birthed from all of the persecution, from
courtrooms to an assassination attempt. And one of my favorites,
she would have been high on my list for VEEP.
A former employee, Sarah Hackaby Sanders kicks off our montage.
Speaker 7 (23:39):
Not even an assassin's bullet could stop him.
Speaker 8 (23:44):
God Almighty intervened because America is one nation under God,
and he is certainly not finished with President Trump.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
I know that a lot of you want to meet
my little buddy. By the way, this is key because
this is the guy that's running for Senate take Manchon's
place in West Virginia. My son was taken by it,
all right. This guy is such a character, and he
brings his bulldog with him everywhere. You're on the convention stage.
The bulldog's in a recliner chair and this guy's talking
(24:14):
from a chair. It was I thought, well, this is
either going to be a disaster or it is going
to be amazing, And he really pulled it off. He
was one of the fun characters.
Speaker 9 (24:23):
So if baby Dogs could come on out here, she
makes a smile and she loves everybody, and how could
the message possibly be any more simpler than just diam This.
Speaker 10 (24:36):
Time last year, I was a candidate for US president,
and I'm proud to say that I achieved the impossible,
which is that most of you actually know how to
say my name by now.
Speaker 7 (24:47):
So Donald Trump has my strong endorsement.
Speaker 4 (24:53):
Period.
Speaker 7 (24:55):
We should acknowledge that there are some Americans who don't
agree with Donald Trump one hundred percent of the time.
Speaker 1 (25:03):
You don't have to agree.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
With Trump one hundred percent of the time to vote
for him.
Speaker 5 (25:08):
Donald Trump has been demonized, He's been sued, he's been prosecuted,
and he nearly lost his life. We cannot let him down,
and we cannot let America down.
Speaker 7 (25:21):
I know what you hear out there about Donald Trump.
I have seen this man dragged through helen back, in
and out of courtrooms, indictments, impeachments, mugshots, and even an
assassination attempt. Millimeters separated him from life and certain death.
(25:41):
And yet it was in the midst of it all,
as he was jostled off stage by Secret Service that
he knew how defining that moment would be for our country,
and he hoisted his.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
Fist in the air.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
I mean, if you're the Democrats and you're sitting at
home watching this, how do you pull this off? I
know what's immediately on their mind. How do we pull
this off with Joe Biden. But we don't have a
Sarah Harkaby Sanders. We don't have a vak Ramazwami. We
don't have I saved the best for last, trust me
(26:31):
in Ben Carson, Marco Rubio and more. With vivec the
k Ramaswami gave the best convention speech I've seen since
Barack Obama did it in two thousand and four at
Clinton's convention. And I looked at my wife then and said,
he's gonna be president of the United States. Last night,
I looked at my wife when Vevek finished, and when
Rubio finished, I said, they're both going to be presidents
of the United States. They don't have the stars to
(26:55):
pull this off. And if they did, an everyday American
story every night, it'd be the same story that you're
hearing at the Republican Convention. People hurting. I'm Daniel Colsey
and Tampa, and my morning show is your morning show
with Michael dell Jorna. All right to talk, Oh fifteen
minutes after the hour. Thanks for waking up with your
(27:16):
morning show. I'm Michael del Jorno. These are your top
five forties. Well, Night two of the R and C
Convention managed to top Night one and Nicky Haley. While
you won't really remember it, nothing memorable, nothing charismatic. It
was the heavy lifting of the night. Mark Mayfield's here
with our Today.
Speaker 4 (27:35):
In politics, former South Carolina Governor NICKI Haley is endorsing
Donald Trump. During a speech at the Republican National Convention
in Milwaukee, Haley said Trump and I haven't heard her
speak at the event.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
To show unity, I'll start by.
Speaker 7 (27:48):
Making one thing perfectly clear.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
Donald Trump has my strong endorsement.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Perry the two round of falling out for Haley's failed
bid to clinch the Republican nomination, but on Tuesday, she
spoke directly to Americans who are on the fence about
voting for Trump. Haley argued that the US will be
worse off under a second Biden. Harris term Hailey previously
served as the UN Ambassador in the Trump administration and
President Biden tounting his accomplishments that benefited Black Americans while
(28:19):
speaking in Las Vegas at the NAACP national Convention, Biden
said he focused on groups that need help the most,
noting his administration has cut black childhood poverty in half.
He warned that Donald Trump will undo all of their
accomplishments for Black Americans if he wins the race. VA's
Politics Mark Mayfield, NBC News Radia.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
Another primary fierce foe seemed to really touch Trump throughout
his speech, the Governor Florida Ron De Santis, and he
wasted no time discussing President Biden.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
I am alarmed that the current President of the United
States lacks the capability to discharge the duties of his office.
Our enemies, do you not confine their designs to between
ten am and four pm?
Speaker 1 (29:04):
We got us a midday host, They got us a
midday president. The Florida governor went on to take a
swipe at Biden's ability to serve.
Speaker 5 (29:12):
We need a commander in chief who can lead twenty
four hours a day and seven days a week. America
cannot afford four more years of a weekend at Bernie's presidency.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
Another huge loss for the state of California. Elon Musk
is packing up his SpaceX headquarters and moving to Texas.
Lisa Taylor has the details.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
He's pointing to a new California law that banns schools
from telling parents if their child starts using different pronouns
in class. Must set on X that he warned Governor
Gavin Newsom that laws like this would force families and
companies to leave California to protect their children. It's unclear
if workers at the SpaceX facility in the Los Angeles
suburb of Hawthorne will be asked to move to musk
starbase in South Texas. I'm Lisa Taylor. Test feel like
(29:58):
there's something different in the air. Does that something's run
its course and a return to what always has been
is in progress? I hope that's in this story as well.
Atlanta based Airlines changing its employees' uniform policy.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
Tammy Tree Heilo reports this comes.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
After the airline came into fire last week for a
social media post seeming to defend an outraged comment on
seeing flight attendants wearing Palestinian flag pins. Felta apologized for
the post and said the employee responsible has been removed
from handling social media.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
Belgia will now.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Ben its employees from wearing pins representing any country or
nationality except the US. The policy went into effect on Monday.
I'm Tammy TRUHEO.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
Of course, there's also signs of things returning to normal
too quickly, like an editor at a major news outlet
telling the media to bury the iconic photo of Trump
with his fist in the air following the assassination, Or
how about the banning or taking off the air of
The Morning Joe He returned Tuesday. Morning Bashing is now work.
And remember John Stewart who had canceled his live show
(31:04):
from the Republican Convention. Well, now he's going to host
a special live edition of The Daily Show the rest
of the week. In fact, x Fox News host Bill
O'Reilly will make a guest appearance. So Riley hosted a
speaking tour with Trump after his term in the White House.
The Daily Show was originally going to broadcast from the
RNC in Milwaukee this week, but the Comedy Central switched
