Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, I'm Michael, and your morning show is heard on
great radio stations across the country like one oh five,
nine twelve fifty w HNZ and Tampa, Florida, News Radio
five seventy w k b N and Youngstown, Ohio and
News Radio one thousand KTOK in Oklahoma City. Love to
have you listen to us live in the morning. And
of course we're so grateful you came for the podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Enjoy well two.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Three starting your morning off right, A new way of talk,
a new way of understanding because we're in this together.
This is your morning show with Michael Odel, shown.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Six minutes after the hour. Thanks for waking up with
your morning show. I am Michael del journal Jeffrey Lyon
has his fingers on all the buttons. I coached me
and said, hey, sound like you've had some sleep.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
I know you haven't. I thought, like, you know, you said, act.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Like you have some sleep. Yeah, And I'm like, I'm
not that good of an actor. Good morning, and welcome
to Friday, July, the nineteenth year of Our Lord twenty
twenty four.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Well, it's official.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Donald Trump accepted the nomination for president of the United
States last night in kind of a hybrid. It was
mostly a testimony, then a rally, was some speech on
a teleprompter sprinkled in every now and then. Before that,
I have to start with, and probably very few people

(01:24):
were watching. Greatest rendition of the national anthem of my
life up until last night was Whitney Houston at the
Super Bowl. Prior to that, I'll never forget. I'm going
to hit you from so out of the blue and
you'll be googling later. I'm not even ten years old,

(01:46):
I don't think. And it's a world Series with the
Los Angeles Dodgers, and in center field, Jose Feliciano and
a guitar appear in center field and he did a
rendition to the melody of Felice Navidad.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
No he didn't.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
He did a rendition with his guitar of the national anthem.
It's probably second on my list. And then I couldn't
even tell you even now, everything I had to do
to prepare. I never did look up her name whoever
sang the national anthem prior to the start of last
night's convention. So I think that would have been about
five fifty something Central time. That was the greatest by

(02:23):
far and rare that you hear both verses of the
national anthem, the vocal abilities. I'm gonna throw out another
name from the past, Sandy Patty singing we Shall behold Him.
I thought was the octave Olympics of my lifetime until

(02:44):
yesterday's national anthem. It was absolutely exquisite, extraordinary. I didn't
think anybody had ever top Whitney Houston. It made Whitney
Houston like she was just beginning vocal school.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Then.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
I don't know what happened. I know I saw Hulk Hogan.
I think I saw Kid Rock and we were graced
by Tucker Carlson and some wrinkled slacks in between.

Speaker 4 (03:12):
It's crazy, by the way, Mary Milburn, Mary Milburn sang
the national Anthem at the RNC.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
I would play you a clip of it. I thought
about that and I was like, you can't. I mean,
five o'clock in the morning. First of all, to do
it justice, you would have to really sit down and
let it unfold because kind of like Stairway to Heaven
or you know, songs like that, it builds. You have
to experience it. So playing a clip isn't going to

(03:37):
do anything. Notice, everybody a classy and high road I
was earlier in the week when I didn't play a clip
of that one poor girl at the All Star game.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Well, and then we find out the next day she's
checking into rehab. That that's just that was a sad start.
But this is maybe I put on my Facebook page
or maybe you guys can google it.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
It was.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
It's breathtaking, an expression often used but rarely really happens.
This one will take your breath away, And then I
don't know what happened. I feel a little bit like
Ben Carson. You know, Ben was in his speech and
I could so relate to that. I do this for
a living, and so sometimes I have to address ugliness
in the room, but I try not to.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
I really live by.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
If you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all.
And so but by the same token, you gotta be honest.
So I'm gonna do it this way. My favorite thing
about fatherhood I love especially in the morning, which relates
to the analogy of the show. I love to be

(04:40):
the first one up sitting there drinking my coffee. First
of all, I value that time alone a to be
with God, because every day's a choice, right, Am I
gonna live godly? Am I gonna live Michae Lee. I
got to get that right first thing in the morning
because it's a choice. And then watch my family appear
one at a time because they really represent no offense

(05:03):
to anyone else out there listening. The four greatest things
of my life. In fact, I turned to my daughter
yesterday and I said, you know what your mom is
to me? She was what I said, did you ever
have a favorite toy when you were growing up and
you wake up and then you remember that.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Toy and you run to it. It's the best part
of your day.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
She goes, I really don't remember any toys, but the
look in her eye was that.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
And I'm convinced of this. Your children.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
You can never love your children more than loving their mother,
and it's what they ultimately want. And so they sensed that,
and then they emulate that. Then they go find that,
and that's what they married. That's what they know is
a norm. That's how you pass on true covenant marriage.
That's how you pass on true unconditional, loving family and

(06:03):
safe zone.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
You do it, you live it first.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
So anyway, make a long story short, My favorite part
is to sit there in the morning and drink coffee
and then watch them all like a great cast, appear
one at a time, you know, like when they used
to record sitcoms before a live audience and you introduce
the characters one of the time. That's how they arrive
in my house. First Alex will come out and start
making coffee. Then you see my son Nick lingering around

(06:27):
at the top of the stairs, and he makes his appearance,
usually with the latest sports stories. Hey dad, you see
Tiger Wood shot at seventy nine. That'll be the first
thing out of his mouth. That the way he talks. Yeah,
thanks Nick, monotonin deep. Thanks Nick for kicking me in
the shin first thing in the morning. Then Andrew will
appear that I get really sparked, And of course Ann

(06:50):
is the last to appear. But whenever we do that,
they come one a time. That's how I envision this show.
That I'm here and we're family, and I don't know
what time you're getting up, don't know what time you're
leaving the room and coming down the stairs and coming
into the kitchen, but I bet if you looked at
me you go your first words would be what'd you
think of that last time?

Speaker 5 (07:07):
Right?

Speaker 1 (07:08):
And so you know, because of that it's a long
analogy to say, I have to be honest, and by
being honest, you're not getting a narrative. You're not getting
something that is shaped. It's just one of many voices.
And it doesn't matter any more than your voice. It

(07:32):
just is in the mix. For me, Night one was spectacular.
I was blown away. Frankly, I had only one explanation
forged in like the making of a pearl. Pearls are

(07:55):
made through irritation. How's that for a biblical analogy? You
want to be a pearl? Nice, embrace the irritation of life.
You want patients. If you want patients, don't ask for it.
You'll have every idiot driver for a year in front
of you.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
God.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Well, because it's the testing that creates it. Diamonds are
made through extraordinary pressure. And so I said, from the
attacks all during you know, the mocking and attacks running
for president in twenty sixteen, the persecution for how dare

(08:38):
you beating Hillary, to the harassment, to the impeachments, to
January sixth and insurrection, and then every other case and
then an assassin's bull, all of it just kind of
forged something magical. And that's what we saw Monday. Tuesday
was out of this world Tuesday I have no explanation
for and it will never And that's why people all

(09:00):
last night, if they were honest with you, would say
greatest convention ever.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
They're really talking about.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
Night one and two, because if you're honest, things fell
off greatly Night three and didn't work, and a Night
three just kind of fell off into your typical cheesy,
non impactful, good intention, poor execution, tried something cute, didn't
pull it off, kind of a convention night.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
And then last night, I don't know what that was.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
I can tell you that the culmination of night after
night with two hours sleep might have played a role
in it.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
That might not have been the greatest night for Trump
to rally on for two hours. It was fantastic.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
We were all wanting to see if Donald Trump has
been changed by a near death experience. There's no question
he has. That part came off since here hugging a
firefighter's jacket. I do think you got to see Donald
Trump and how funny he is. That really shined last night.

(10:08):
I laughed a lot, and he's going through the whole family.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
I'm baron.

Speaker 5 (10:15):
You know.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
There are all kinds of funny mine. When when he
put up the chart, I almost fell off the chair.

Speaker 5 (10:20):
The chart.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
You know, the first time I tried to look at that, Jack,
I think you see it very long? Yeah, I mean,
you know that was good.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
But you know, as far as making the message of
unity crystal clear, completing the deal of he did ask
by the way I I I brought this up yesterday,
and he did do it. He ended by asking for
their vote, humbly asking for their vote. That's the first

(10:49):
for Donald Trump. That's a change Donald Trump. Uh, it
was all in there, but it didn't come through. Click
crystal clear the hope and it's okay to vote for me,
and it's okay to put America first, and it's okay
to make America great again. It was all in there, sprinkled,
but there was just so much. It was stretched out
so long, and then I don't know what to make

(11:09):
a hault cocing kid rock. I loved Tucker Carlson's speech.
I would have wore pants that weren't wrinkled. I do
want to give the national anthem a quadruple a plus,
greatest rendition I ever heard, and I think the wrong
Trump had a big night. Eric he uh, out of
all the Trumps, may have shined the brightest, and he

(11:32):
gave what was the most appropriate speech to give Donald Trump.
Had he just done his speech, well, then we'd be
having the debate first impression versus bad impression. You know

(11:52):
it'll be it'll be debated for for lifetimes, and it's
one of those that will never have an answer. You'll
just choose to believe. But what is more powerful a
first impression or last impression? I can tell you the
love of my life's first impression of me was when
I walked in a room and said, who's the Indian
in the kitchen? She went, that's my mother, all right?

(12:13):
So thank god, last impression boy wins out over first impression,
as she was worse than I said, who's the Indian
chief of the kitchen?

Speaker 2 (12:22):
And Andrew's mother is very.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Native American looking, I mean very Native American looking, and
I mean it was a terrible you know, what do
you want?

Speaker 2 (12:32):
I was young, you say stupid things in your twenties.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
But anyway, thank god I've won back that bad first impression,
or I wouldn't have Dead Tigers nine. But the first
impression of this convention was enough. I think for everybody
to have a feeling in their mouth. This is a
unified party, this is an energized party. That's really all

(12:58):
you want out of a convention. They still don't know
who they're going to be facing. I would have been
shocked if they would have made the announcement in the
middle of Trump's speech to try to distract it. But
I don't think Joe Biden will be a candidate for
president by the time we see each other again on Monday.
And I don't I don't. I don't know that they're
gonna go to the Kamala Harris right. He goes, well,

(13:19):
you can't do that. You can't take a woman of
color off the tell Oh. Yeah, they will do whatever
they can desperately do, and they'll replace there with another
woman of color and Michelle Obama if they have to.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
But I think what they're going to try to do
is either.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
Resolve this, you know, to where it's resolved heading into
the convention, and then they.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
Tell the convention story. But like we said yesterday, there's
just no way to move forward.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
You you can't even host a convention in Chicago right
now with Joe. You couldn't even go through the motions
just it would be.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Like trying to crack jokes at a funeral, It really would.

Speaker 1 (13:55):
So, you know, I think at the end of the
day that night one was so strong, that Night two
was so once in a lifetime maybe never to be
achieved again, that the falloff to normalcy on night three,
and then what I think was a hybrid rally slash
final night of a convention. And it may have worked

(14:16):
for you, it didn't quite work for me. It wasn't
the strongest thing that could have happened in my mind,
but it happened. And now you'll have everybody debate first
impression versus last impression. I don't think it's a foregone
conclusion that Donald Trump is the next president of the
United States. And I'm with a couple of senators that
are smart enough to say, you're not going to be

(14:38):
taking on Joe Biden and they're going to stop at
nothing to try to win. They are not going to
just step aside and concede. So buckle up. It was
a great convention. It achieved what it had to. Now
let's see who we're really going up against. This is
Your Morning Show with Michael Del Chrono. Donald Trump, formally

(15:00):
accepted his party's nomination for President of the United States.
The first Lady Milana Trump was there. Roy O'Neil will
be happy to take that office to do a list,
and more Americans are expected to seek unemployment benefits. And
Nancy Pelosi's telling Democrats and all indications are Donald Trump
will be gone or out.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Of the race. I should say, they have no intention
of replacing him.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
He will continue until January, apparently in this medical state.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
But we'll be out of the race by Monday.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
Aaron Rayel's joining us because we've got a big fight
over masks again. Oh that old chestnut, only with a
different twist, right erin I know, right.

Speaker 6 (15:35):
Yeah, so different this go around. What a difference a
couple years makes. And it has a lot to do
with the fact that crime was on the rise during
the pandemic and people took the opportunity the cultural acceptance
of masks to continue wearing them and just commit crimes.
So now you're seeing a pushback. You have police, you
have small business owners. They say that this is being

(15:57):
exploited and they are banning masks in stores. Wow, who
would have thought that a ban on masks and this
is now happening at a state level. I've seen nothing yet.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
On a federal level.

Speaker 6 (16:07):
But in North Carolina last month there was a law
that gave increased penalties for wearing a mask while committing
a crime. I guess you get more time in jail.
But this was actually, believe it or not, Michael, largely
in response to pro Palestinian protesters, those folks who were
covering their face during demonstrations. So it kind of makes
sense if you're causing a newsan's then you could have

(16:27):
further penalty.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
Yes, thank you.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
Then and masking, wearing a mask robbing a bank is well.
I saw Butch casting his sun dance. Get it's happened
for a long time. Air's going right, Yeah, Aaron's going
to be Aaron's gonna be back next hour.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
This is our short visit and I hate that that
it's so short.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
Anyway, should be back next hour to talk about what
a second Trump presidency meets for China.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
I think he made that much clear last night. Thank you, Eric. Hi,
It's Michael.

Speaker 1 (16:51):
Your morning show airs live five to eight am Central,
six to nine Eastern and great cities like Memphis, Tennessee,
tell Usa, Oklahoma, Sacramento, California. We'd love to be a
part of your morning routine, but we're happier here now.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
Enjoy the podcast.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
In search of analogies, let me use comedy as an example.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
The longer your setup.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Or story that leads to a punchline is the funnier
the punchline.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
Has to be.

Speaker 1 (17:21):
The shorter you're set up, the less funny it has
to be. In other words, if you want to tell
a long joke, go for it. And some people's gifting
is the funny nature, which I would say that Manuscalco
is create at storytelling, so it's not so much it's
what he's doing when he's talking about, you know, going

(17:42):
into a Ross's clothing store and you know, it looks
like bey root and the clothes are all over the
floor and he's looking for jeans and he bends down
and you know. But most people, you know, it's it's
a setup and then a punchline. And the longer the setup, well,
the better the punchline has to be. That's the problem
with when you go long. So if you asked me,

(18:03):
did I enjoy watching Donald Trump last night? Well maybe
if it had been you know, not the fourth night
of two nights, sleep every night. You know what I'm saying.
This is tough on everybody that follows these things because
there's a lot on the line and we want to
do our job. You know, I can't tell how much
work it takes to have all this sound ready for
you in the morning. I did have a lot of

(18:25):
enjoyable moments. He made me laugh a lot. I thought
he was very funny, but in general, for me, the
wrong Trump had the great night. Eric Trump had a
great night. I thought Tucker Carlson's speech was great. I
would have ironed my pants. And then I don't know
what to make of Kid Rock and Hulk Ogan other
than Kid Rock for sure needs a shower anyway. So

(18:46):
we just kind of want to, you know, go through
some of these sounds. I'm gonna do all the Donald
Trump stuff mostly in the six o'clock hour, but I
do want to start with Eric Trump. And I wonder
how many people if they wanted to take a pot shot.
That's just some of the ways I choose to look
at things, you know, like when I'm watching a convention
like last night, I'm going, okay, what just made their

(19:06):
Democrat strategist go ow. I mean, what was a real
rib breaking body blow or what would they what would
they seize on and go, ah, we can use that.
And I can't believe no one said it, but I'm
sure it'll be one of the themes on CNN, MSNBC.
I haven't seen Axios or Washington Post to it yet,
but the headline wrong Trump had the good night Eric Trump.

(19:29):
If we could have another little like American idol, a
Trump idol, probably the granddaughter would come. I think the
daughter in law would come in second, the granddaughter would
come in third.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
Don Junior would certainly coming forth. And then Milania.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
Don't you have to speak, she just comes out, you know,
imposed don't stone, but.

Speaker 4 (19:46):
She absolutely everybody was just enamored with Millennia last night
was killed. I was really surprised at.

Speaker 1 (19:53):
Well, because there's been so many rumors that after the
stormy Daniel's testimony that there's probably some real problems there.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
Rory's always thinks.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
Still haven't seen Milania. Still haven't see Milania. That showed, yeah,
and Milania, of course was just trying too. I gotta
I got a kid still at.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
Home, you know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (20:10):
And I and I think there's probably some security issues
right for Lisa, but no, Eric Trump shined the brightest.
And you know, being on the last night like that,
Laurron Trump had the best speech.

Speaker 7 (20:22):
You are strong, you are full of life, and you
are unapologetic. Your optimism is contagious, your backbone is unbreakable.
Your conviction to fight for what is right and against
all that is wrong is truly next level.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
It's really like an Old Testament story in a way,
isn't it. You know?

Speaker 1 (20:43):
The they go looking for the next king of Israel
and the father brings the oldest son, the heir apparent,
the one that's so obvious.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
No, it's not him. That's kind of what it is
with Donald Jr. And nobody ever, you know.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
Then you go to uh uh, the daughter Avanka?

Speaker 2 (21:03):
No, Ivanka was the ex wife, right? Avanya? No?

Speaker 1 (21:09):
I get the daughter and the mother's names mixed up.
Vanka is the daughter, Avania was the wife. I may
have it backwards, but I'm talking about the daughter. But
everybody will got on the list, you know, and watch
the next Their apparent's probably barren for all we know.
But nobody ever sees Eric coming. And notice Eric is
the CEO of the company just a brilliant speech throughout

(21:33):
on behalf of America, on behalf of his father. That
was the acceptance speech that the son gave. And then
dad came out and did a rally. Wedged in between.
That was Tucker Carlson. But Fox was loving that right.
He actually appeared during his normal hour he would have
been on the air at Fox. I'm sure that was
a coincidence. He testified that Donald Trump is a changed

(21:59):
man since being.

Speaker 8 (22:00):
The effect that it had on Donald Trump.

Speaker 9 (22:03):
He was no longer just a political party's nominee or
a former president or a future president.

Speaker 8 (22:09):
This was the leader of a nation.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
He had a really meaningful discussion that you can give
somebody a title, but that doesn't make him a leader.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
Oh tell me about it.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
Forty two years in radio, I was always working for
people with a title, and forty two years I've worked
for one leader, now two two leaders, and forty two years.
He's so right. You can give anybody the title, I
doesn't make him a leader, not true leaders. He talked

(22:42):
about a discussion that he had with former President Donald
Trump the night of the assassination attempt.

Speaker 8 (22:47):
Listen reach out to Trump within hours of it.

Speaker 9 (22:49):
That night, and what he said to me that night,
having just been shot in the face.

Speaker 8 (22:54):
He said not a single word about himself.

Speaker 9 (22:57):
He said only how amazed he was and how proud
he was of the crowd which didn't run.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Love Tucker Carlson.

Speaker 1 (23:04):
You wonder if he has a future somewhere in the
administration or an as a lead of a television network
that Donald Trump may be starting. Something's in the works
for Tucker Carlson. Anyway. I remember being in high school
and our third basement, Tap Benz on the baseball team
and I used to sit next to each other on
the bus and we'd go to away games and tap

(23:25):
all we tap. One of the greatest guys ever, great
great third basement. I think tap Bens was all state. Anyway.
He was always reading wrestling magazines, and I was always
just I had one of those early Walkmans, and I'd
be listening to Journey Ario Speedwagon and I'd look.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
Over to be reading this mag Why do you waste
your time with that?

Speaker 1 (23:45):
I can tell you that my brother Vick was kind
of into it when I was really young, and that
goes back to the chic and Dick de Bruiser, Bobby Heenen,
and all that, and I wasn't into it then, but
I was into my brother, so I'd sit next to
an act like I was, and I'm like, that is
just so stupid.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
So this could be me, and it could just be
completely lost on me.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
I'm not into fake That's why I watch more documentaries
than I watch you know, science fiction, which I never watch, or.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
Epic adventures or whatever else is out there.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
I'm a reality guy, so this could be lost on me.
But yes, Hulk Holgan made an appearance, and yes, he,
like Donald Trump, was in and out of character throughout
his speech.

Speaker 10 (24:25):
All you scumbags, all you drug dealers, and all you
crooked politicians need to answer one question, brother, what you're
gonna do when Donald Trump and all the Trump of
maniacs run wild on you?

Speaker 1 (24:42):
Brother? And then he ripped his shirt off, revealing he
was wearing a Trump Fans shirt.

Speaker 5 (24:48):
Crime is out of control, the border is out of control,
the price of food and gas and housing is out
of control. And the only person who can clean this
is Donald Trump.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
So look, I'm gonna I don't want to get anybody
mad at me.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
I could be grumpy from lack of sleep cumulative which
by the way.

Speaker 2 (25:11):
That goes back to my opening analogy. I'll close with that.

Speaker 1 (25:13):
Look, if you're gonna do a rally and you're gonna
go two hours at the end of a long week,
it better be good and it.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
Better have a payoff. And it didn't. So that's an
interesting choice.

Speaker 1 (25:22):
I think, you know, maybe Donald Trump is a very
changed man but has some old bad habits, but he's
clearly most comfortable in speaking style, riffing and doing a rally,
and as a rally goes, it was one of his
best performances. He had me laughing constantly. I'm not not,
you know, griping. But this is a convention that had
an extraordinary opening day and night. The second night will

(25:45):
never be matched. You can't say never, No, it will
never be matched. It was that perfect. The third night
was a typical convention night, things strive for, not achieved,
way too cheesy, little bit of Vick factor, all playing
to the room, typical, not bashing it, just typical. And

(26:07):
it really needed a strong close to go with its
great first impression, and I don't think they achieved it
with Kid Rock, All Cogan the National Anthem and Eric
Trump spectacular, Donald Trump great long rally not a unifying
message to all of America. It was all in there,
but it was just stretched out so long. But I

(26:30):
can't wait to hear. If roy O'Neil feels the same way,
If John Decker, our White House correspondent who is there,
feels the same way. If you feel the same way,
you can call it eight hundred and sixt eight eight
ninety five, twenty two. Email me Michael di Atiheartmedia dot com,

Speaker 6 (26:50):
This is Deba Morris from our little town of Franklin, Tennessee.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
My morning show is your Morning Show with Michael Bill Mordill.

Speaker 1 (27:01):
Fifty minutes after the hour, time for your top five
stories of the day. Donald Trump made his plea for unity.
Brian shook like Trump did all night long. Has our
Road to the White House?

Speaker 11 (27:14):
Road to the White House? Twenty twenty four. Former President
Trump called for unity last night as he spoke for
the first time since surviving an attempt on his life
at the Pennsylvania rally after accepting the Republican nomination for
president in Milwaukee. Trump spoke out against political divisions and
said Americans have to remember we're all fellows citizens.

Speaker 12 (27:36):
We are one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and
justice for all.

Speaker 11 (27:42):
He went on to push back against claims by Democrats
that he's a threat to democracy, stating, I'm the one
saving democracy. Trump promised to bring down inflation and end
what he called the illegal immigration crisis in Washington. I'm
Brian Shuck Mayble.

Speaker 1 (27:59):
Let's get to the West locker room and see how
things are going to everybody. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
is telling House Democrats President Biden will soon be persuaded
to exit the race.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
Mark Mayfield reports.

Speaker 13 (28:12):
On Thursday, The Washington Post said that Pelosi has been
talking with Biden's inner circle about low poll numbers. Pelosi
is thought to be Biden's closest ally. On the same day,
The New York Times reported that Biden has begun to
accept the idea that he may not be able to
win in November and may have to drop out of
the race.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
On Mark Mayfield well, one Trump gave a rally, Another
Trump gave a speech. Son Eric urged America across the
country to put their father back in the White House.

Speaker 7 (28:41):
You are strong, you are full of life, and you
are unapologetic. Your optimism is contagious, your backbone is unbreakable.
Your conviction to fight for what is right and against
all that is wrong is truly next level.

Speaker 1 (28:59):
Tucker car Grlson addressed his astonishment in talking to Trump
the night of the assassination attempt and what he said.

Speaker 9 (29:06):
Reach out to Trump within hours of it that night,
and what he said to me that night, having just
been shot in the face.

Speaker 8 (29:12):
He said not a single word about himself.

Speaker 9 (29:16):
He said only how amazed he was and how proud
he was of the crowd, which he didn't run.

Speaker 1 (29:22):
As for the former president himself. He gave the minute
by minute detail of Saturday's assassination attempt.

Speaker 14 (29:28):
So many people have asked me what happened, Tell us
what happened, please, And therefore I will tell you exactly
what happened, and you'll never hear it from me a
second time because it's actually too painful to tell.

Speaker 12 (29:44):
I heard a loud, whizzing sound and felt something hit
me really really hard.

Speaker 8 (29:53):
On my right ear. I said to myself, wow, what
was that. It can only be a bullet, and moved my.

Speaker 2 (30:03):
Right hand to my ear wrote it down.

Speaker 14 (30:06):
My hand was covered with blood, just absolutely blood all
over the place.

Speaker 2 (30:13):
Now, the president didn't do any public.

Speaker 1 (30:18):
Speech of any kind or news conference found the assassination attempt,
So there really was everybody, you know, focused on this.
They had seen him throughout the week. He would come out,
he would sit down, but never talked, so they kind
of had to address this the moment of silence for

(30:41):
firefighter who lost his life having his uniform there. I
don't know that I'd have gone over and hugged it necessarily,
but you know, I think most people's consensus is, Okay,
that's different than an acceptance speech, but it was necessary
because of the uniqueness of the situation. So but what
ended up happening was you had that, then you had

(31:03):
what was the start of a speech, and then you
had a long rally, and then you had the close
of the speech. So it was kind of a weaving
in and out. I think the simple explanation is Donald
Trump is Donald Trump. I don't think anybody should make
a case this is proof he didn't change from this experience. No,
he's got these habits. This is how he's comfortable speaking.

(31:24):
And you could tell whenever he would do the speech
on the telepropht it was very uncomfortable for him. I
don't think it feels authentic him reading, and so I
think that style is a problem for him. Well, by
doing all three, it went extraordinarily long. It finished after
midnight on the East Coast. And in all of those words,

(31:47):
do all the keywords. In other words, these clips today
are doing them a better service than having watched the
whole thing play out. But I am, like I've said
all morning long, I'm so anxious to see what you
guys thought.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
Donald Trump.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
It was a rally, not an acceptance speech, but it
was a great rally, and he had me laughing throughout
the night. That much is for sure. Political commentator Lou
Dobbs is dead at the age of seventy eight. The
former President Trump issued a statement on his true social account,
calling Dobbs a friend and he was a truly incredible journalist, reporter,

(32:21):
and talent. Dobbs hosted shows on CNN, then later Fox News.
He was recently hosting The Great America Show on iHeartRadio.
Lou Dobbs was seventy eight years old. And then we've
been having deaths. You know they always say deathk coming threes. Yeah,
but they've been having like three in a day. They
keep happening in the same day. Yesterday was too Bob Newhart.

(32:43):
I you know, look, I'm old enough to remember comedy albums,
and we had some Bob Newhart ones. We had one
that was just all him, you know, doing these phone
call things. But then I grew up as a very
young person into my early teen years watching The Bob
Newhart Show, which was brilliant, and that was the one
he did. Later when I was more of a teenager,

(33:04):
hit two. But they both called Bob Newhart. I think
they were both Bob Newhart shows or something. The second
one had a twist on the name.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
Of course.

Speaker 1 (33:11):
I was in love with Suzanne Plaschett from the original
one and all the weirdos. You know. He was a
shrink and he worked in the office in downtown Chicago.
Bob Newhart was a treasure ninety four years ago. Lived
a long, blessed life. But Bob Newhart passed away yesterday.
A television and comedic icon Mark Mays has the details.

Speaker 13 (33:33):
His publicist says he passed away in Los Angeles after
a series of short illnesses. His TV series The Bob
Newhart Show was a hit in the nineteen seventies, and
he had another ratings winner with New Heart in the
nineteen eighties. He started doing stand up in the nineteen
sixties and slowly gained an audience with his dead pen
and sometimes stammering delivery. His live stand up albums were
top sellers. He later became a fixture on The Tonight

(33:55):
Show with Johnny Carson and made guest appearances in dozens
of TV shows. He won his first Emmy in twenty
thirteen for a guest spot on The Big Bang Theory.
I'm Marknefield.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
That household name Daniel Brown is sitting atop the leaderboard
after the first round of the Open Championship at Royal
Troon Golf Course in Scotland.

Speaker 2 (34:13):
Shane Lowry's one stroke back. We're all in this together.
