Today is "Feel Good Friday," the #4-ranked Texas Longhorns finished their home season undefeated, yet again with a 79-50 victory over the #23-ranked Georgia Bulldogs. The NFL Combine has started, and some Longhorn players are getting ready to progress to the next level. We talk about the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans, as both are making roster adjustments. We show our love for the NFL Combine Sonny Styles performance. The family got together yesterday after the show, and we talked about it. The San Antonio Spurs win 11 straight, the Houston Rockets' Kevin Durant scores his 32,000th point, and we ask Mark, what's up with his Lakers? We talk about WWE's Elimination Chambers as well. Well, this team has done a great, great job all
season long. As we said, they are twenty seven and three,
eighteen and oh at home, twelve and three in conference play,
winner of four straight. They are getting themselves primed up
for a run here at the end of the season.
This Sunday will be their final game of the regular

season as they travel to Alabama. That game tips off
Sunday at eleven a m. You can see it on
the SEC Network. That's the other thing that coach was
mad about yesterday talking about the scheduling is because they
played a game last night at nine o'clock, then they
have to go on the road and play the early

game at eleven o'clock on Sunday. That's just bad balance
for the competitive balance of basketball.

You're only gonna get about six to seven hours of sleep,
well because of transportation, Yes, because you always got to
leave two hours early, yeah, sometimes three.

Yeah.

And I'm gonna look and see where Alabama played last
night because that'll play into it. Because Alabama is a
ranked team, they're twenty one and eight. It just looks
like they lost last night, but they were in Nashville
and they played that game at six thirty, right, so
they fly in.

Yeah, they're gonna be ready to go, but nowhere rest
for the weary as you know, it's the sec They're
gonna have to come out and be ready to play anyway,
But it is kind of nerve wracking when you start
to look at how the schedule is set up during
that time.

Well, with this Texas team, they're gonna need that rest.

Yeah, yeah, Well it's kind of true when you when
you think about that, but and you start to look
at what Texas is trying to achieve and the rest
and recovery that these girls need after those games, this
is just kind of messes up the routine that you
can put yourself in as well.

that and so much more. Today, let's get into the
Combine because the Combine is an opportunity job interview for

(12:40):
a lot of players as they get ready to see
what is going to be like at the next level.
So far, the linebackers got a chance to work out.
Anthony Hill Junior and Trey Moore had their forty times yesterday,
both guys running a four to five one for Anthony
Hill Junior and a four two were five to four

(13:01):
for edge rusher tray More. Both of those guys have
shown the ability to do some special things on the
football field. You also look at the cone split, the
ten ten yard split Anthony Hill Junior a one to five.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
Eight tray More one six.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
And that's good because you're you're going back and forth
and you get to show some lateral movement. You also
look at the vertical trade More thirty eight and a
half inches Anthony Hill Junior thirty seven. The broad jump
Anthony Hill Junior ten five, tray More ten feet.

Speaker 4 (13:41):
That's that explosion.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
That's what you want to see, being able to explode
to the next guy next to you, being able to
go tackle and have that quick burst that tray More
was the only one who did the twenty yard shuttle,
and he did it in four to fourth three yesterday.
They didn't have anything on the bench for those guys.

(14:04):
So for them to go out there and have a
pretty solid start to the Combine puts a lot of
puts it out there that these guys have been working
their behinds all well.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
It was more than a solid start.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
I mean, it's not a mystery when you see the
end result of the way Texas played this past season
in the season before, as well as Ohio State, because
both of those teams had two guys that were able
to do incredible things like we saw at the Combine yesterday,

(14:41):
and of course Sunny Styles, Lord, nobody's done what he's
done ever in the history of the Combine and to
see what he did, and we'll get into it later on,
but they had two guys that was stiller in their

(15:02):
performances and in recent styles, and Texas had Trade and hell.
So that's a good reason why these teams both had
a lot of success.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
Yeah, and for Texas it is important because there's a
lot of guys that are going to be there represented.
Over the last couple of seasons, Texas has sent a
ton of players to the NFL Combine and they've performed well.
But one of those is Jalen Gilbo. He is there
now he'll be running with the defensive backs. You also

(15:38):
have Malik Muhammad and you have Jack Injuries the tight end,
the transfer from Cal that has come in and did
a great job and now he's being able to showcase
his talent at the combine. But Jalen Gilbot talked about
the competitive mindset in which he works with.

Speaker 8 (15:57):
I'm fast, physical, and not compete. I'm not gonna give
up on no place. So I'll say that's that's that's
my specialty. Like I'm gonna compete like hell, whether it's
windows and draw like i'mna get up, i'mnna get back
up and line up again.

Speaker 4 (16:08):
So I'll say that's just in my blood.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
I can't wait to see what he does and what
his speed looks like his vertical because he's so athletic.
Jack Injuries was asked about Arch Manning and what he
saw from Arch this past season.

Speaker 9 (16:24):
You know, by the end of that season, those last
couple of games he's gone there. I felt like six
touchdowns by himself, you know, in the air on the
round game. I felt like he was I wish we
had that playoff chance. I think we would have made
a run with him a quarterback and the rest of
our team.

Speaker 4 (16:38):
I think going eight. What do you feel about that?

Speaker 2 (16:41):
I think he's right. I think that Texas would have
got in. There's there's only three teams I thought that
would have been competition for Texas, and two of those
teams played in the National Championship.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
And I really do feel like it. I mean, it's
it's not as doubt.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
Like he said, Texas started to play so much better
in the last four games. Uh, they were on a
role and everybody else were just kind of like where
they were. Texas was still improving.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Yeah, and Texas was the entire team was trending in
the right direction, the entire every position.

Speaker 4 (17:23):
Yeah, it's like they finally hit their stride.

Speaker 1 (17:26):
But now they're looking for some other things that can
happen for them.

Speaker 4 (17:30):
But transfer Portal and.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
They got to replace a guy like Jalen Gilbot, They
got to replace a guy like Jack Andrews, the two
guys we mentioned before, Anthony Hill Junior and Trey Moore.
But they also got to replace Malik Muhammad. And Malik
Muhammad at the combine talked about learning from some of
the best that have ever played at the University of Texas,

I had.

Speaker 10 (17:54):
I had great mentors, like older guys as far as
John Away, Xavior Worthy, Queen Yours. But it's grown well
over the course of my three years at Texas, just
being able to pick gyms off those guys and then
I'm telling me, when your time come, you're gonna have
to do this, do that, do this, or do that.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
And speaking of Torondre Sweat, he talked about him. Sweat
is now a New York Jet. He just recently got
traded yesterday. News came out actually while we were having
lunch that he was traded to the Jets for Jermaine
Johnson defensive end. So Sweat now leaves the Titans and

(18:36):
is where he was going to be with a great
defensive mind and Robert Salah that was gonna probably give
him big ups. But he's going to New York and
Aaron Glo.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
You know why, you know, because they went to a
thirty four defense and the Jets going to a thirty
four defense. It's kind of like the old style fifty
defense where.

Speaker 4 (18:59):
You have a those tackle, two tackles.

Speaker 2 (19:01):
Two ends, and you if you don't have three hundred
and thirty almost four hundred pound guy in the center
of that pushing from the inside.

Speaker 4 (19:12):
That defense is not gonna work well. And now they have.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
Replacing Quentin Williams because Quentin Williams is now Dallas Cowboys,
So they had to figure out a way.

Speaker 4 (19:22):
To get another guy to get that guy.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
And and you know, I feel bad for t Sweat
because he was finding his way in the NFL. He
had a great season last year. He was even better.
He was on the All Rookie team.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
You saying like it's a death centence to the Jets.
Have you seen the Jets. They've been pretty bad, But
I think I think that the Jets are gonna make
drastic improvement this year.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
They have no other choice. That was just about this.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
You're You're exactly right, Marks is because they didn't have
one interception.

Speaker 4 (19:57):
They thank you, thank you think about this.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
So you're you're asking me that, yes, it is a
death sentence for Debaudre Sweat.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
It is, well r I p for Sweat, man. You know,
I'm not gonna accept that hard. You mean, I think
that you bring in somebody like him to fortify that
defensive line and put pressure on the quarterback to throw interception.

Speaker 4 (20:21):
So you're gonna tell me they go win four games
this year because last year I'm taking if when you
win zero.

Speaker 11 (20:29):
Also, what you're telling me you mentioned them not having
any interceptions. How do you not have any interceptions the
whole season when your head coach is a defensive All Star.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
Yes, yes he's a he's an All Pro and you
have zero interceptions?

Speaker 4 (20:46):
What did Tuna say? What did Bill about the groceries? Yes,
he was the head coach, he got the gross he left.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
Listen, they had feels as a quarterback, which I I was.

Just either so they didn't get a reception. You have
to actually throw.

The ball to have a chance of getting an interception.

running back.

Did you see the news out of the combine, Eric
Glenn got caught on camera sleeping.

Yeah, he was up there nine. Yeah, he busy, busy

But I wanted to get into the conversation about the
Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Texans. We'll get into the
Houston Texans first because during the off season, the conversation,
as it always is, always surrounds the coaches, it always
surrounds the quarterbacks. Last couple seasons, they were talking about
Dak in Dallas and is it time to move on?

Speaker 4 (23:10):
That's Mark Henry.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
But we also realized that if you don't have a
starting quarterback, you don't have anything. But it's so crazy
to think that CJ. Stroud has a bad season and
then all of them not even a bad season.

Speaker 4 (23:23):
They got into the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (23:24):
I mean, my goodness, they got an opportunity to advance
and then all of a sudden, everybody thinks that CJ
is trash. But Demiko Ryans has always been a big
supporter of it. We heard Nick Cassaria here at the
Combine State no way, no, how are we getting rid
of our quarterback. But one thing Demiko did say is

that they need to work on that offense.

Speaker 2 (23:47):
Where are the areas that you're focused on in terms
of maybe improving the roster.

Speaker 12 (23:52):
Yeah, for us, it's for the offensive side of the
ball where we're looking to improve at the offensive line
position to start there. We're looking in our running back
position as well. We have a lot of areas of
room to grow and improvement and you know, we have.
The cool part about it is we have room to
improve and we have a good core guys, that's for sure,

(24:15):
and so to improve the depth of our team here
at the you know, with this draft, I think it's
going to be really vital for us and we're going
to find some really good prospects. Having the meetings we've
had already throughout this the combined week, it's been great,
great young men. Excited to see how it all plays out.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
As you know, every time a defensive minded coach is
the head coach, the offense will always suffer because they
want to lock in on the defense. Offensive minded coach,
defense kind of suffers. That is why it's so important
to make sure you make the right moves. But more importantly,
you have to have a starting quarterback. And Demiko talked

(24:58):
about CJ. Strout keep your head up.

Speaker 12 (25:01):
I love you like I got your back, and that's
what I told him at halftime. This whole team has
your bag, like we're in this thing together from day one,
like it it doesn't change for me. Like we have
a really special group, a tight knit group. And when
things don't go your way, you have bad performances. It's

(25:22):
not a time to point fingers or say it's on
one person, if anybody all it all starts with me.
For me as the head coach of this team, we
didn't perform well. Obviously I didn't have our guys, you know,
ready to go in this moment.

Speaker 1 (25:36):
So that starts with me. We stick together, and they're
gonna stick with CJ. Stroud. So CJ. Stroud is the quarterback.
He did mention they're gonna get the running game figured out.
Not having Joe Mixon last year really hurt that team.
Trading away your offensive lineman, that hurt your team. But
now you get a chance to regroup and recalibrate.

Speaker 4 (25:57):
Well, they saw that right off the back.

Speaker 2 (25:59):
I mean mean the offensive line play was spotty, and
you know, especially a left tackle hard, you have got
to protect your guy's blind side. And he got a concussion,
Like I don't think he ever recovered from. Uh that
mentally that you know, oh my god, I'm not protected,

(26:22):
I'm gonna get hit, and it just takes your whole
offensive awareness away. And that's why he was doing things
that were like why did he do that? That's that's
why where that came from. But the other thing is
third down and two fourth down and one third down

(26:43):
and one. They had a guy that could actually get
those pretty consistently, and he didn't play the whole season
because of off the field injury. So there's a lot
of improvement that Houston can make.

Speaker 1 (26:59):
They're gonna have to, and I believe that they're gonna
get it figured out. They're still in that division where

I think last year we hired Clayton Adams, who's a
superstar by the way offensive coordinator, but I still felt

our offense and blend it, and I felt like I
didn't do a great job being involved with the defense.

thrilled about our hire with Christian Parker. I think he's excellent.
The staff we put together is excellent. There was a

ton of shoot. We did nine interviews in our search
for coordinators. Jerry and Steven and Will McClay were involved
in everything. We dove into concepts and techniques. I mean
to hear us talk about coverage concepts and Jerry asking
questions about run fits and stuff like that was awesome.
But you know, I really do feel like being the
play callers something I know how to do.

I've done at a high level.

Now me being the head coach and really truly being
involved in all three phases is one thing I'm really
looking forward to.

That is why I believe in what Schottenheimer has been
able to do with the Dallas Cowboys. If they can
figure out that defense, and it looks like they went
and got their guy, if they can get the defense
to play better, they can figure out what they're doing

doubting you. Everybody's still gonna hate. There's always gonna be
some issues. Nobody's gonna ride with you. Before the Cowboys,
they have a lot to figure out on that defensive

that's what Dallas is doing in the NFL. They brought
in a coach that knows and is very meticulous in

And my family was like, this might be the best

to all the barbecue spots in town, and we just

stayed the extra day just so they can come and

hard to miss.

to uh sample some of the food and the family outing.

What was your biggest takeaway? What did you like the most?

Well, what I like the most is when Mark put
on his glasses and became a scientist of the barbecue,
was breaking down the intricacies of everything that involves barbecue.
He was he showed that he's a true connoisseur. Hey,
I love food. No, is it in visible?

Speaker 4 (34:55):

I love the production of it too, Like the way
that they advertise and produce, the recipes and what they
put into it, what the quality of the meat is, like,
all of that stuff is important when you make craft barbecue.
If you're just making barbecue for mass consumption, you know,

you tend to not look at those little bitty things.
But a place like that, you know, they don't just
hand out Michelin stars. In fact, there's no other barbecue
place in Texas that had a Michelin star, right, you know,
so that's pretty damn impressive.

They do a good job.

where they will face one of the top programs in
the country national runner up, Coastal Carolina tonight in h
Town at Dykin Park at seven o'clock. But right now
we're joined by our guy from Orangebloods dot Com, my

the Dish and Zach, you know, you start to look
at this Texas baseball team and really truly understand that
this is a talented group, but they need to continue
to play at a high level. But the main part
that I've been impressed with has been this pitching staff.

Speaker 4 (40:35):
Early in the season.

Speaker 14 (40:37):
Yeah, this pitching staffsolete. I wrote about it in my
preview on Orange Bloods. But when you look at the
tv ERA, they're first in the nation. It's allowed for
nine innings, they're fifth in the nation. They're strong. Strikeout
to walk ratio is up there. And then I think
that thing that gets lost is you know, they're playing
really good defense. I think there was a lot of
questions coming in the season, but the defense has picked

(40:59):
up the pitching at couple of times. So when you
have that pair man's it's like two thousand and five
all over again.

Speaker 4 (41:05):
It's hard to beat.

Speaker 1 (41:06):
So when you think about this and you talked about
that great defense, you have obviously some position changes. When
you move Borba from third to first, you move Timo
Paseerra from shortstop to third base, and you move a
rod who played all over the field last year to
keep his bat in the lineup. Now he's working as

(41:27):
your primary shortstop. And oh yeah, you just have a
guy in center field that's running down balls and diving
in the.

Speaker 4 (41:34):
Gap to make plays.

Speaker 1 (41:36):
You had Ashton Larson make a play in left field,
and you have the young freshman Anthony Pack junior that's
been impressive, and Carson Tini behind the play throwing out
some runners. So you're right when you start to look
at this defense and what they bring every day, it's
been really impressive so far.

Speaker 4 (41:55):
Yeah, it really has.

Speaker 14 (41:56):
And yeah, I think that's a good test this weekend
for the Horns though that out and you talk about it.
You know, dyk In Park plays big, especially out in
center field. There's a lot of ground to cover left
side if it's Ashton or Duplantier or maybe we even
see a Jonah this weekend, right Like, that's a really
weird area down those foul lines. And then you you
know Anthony Pack out in right field. It's a little

(42:17):
bit bigger park than Dish Falcons. The dimensions look different.
The roof's going to be open, which is a huge boost,
I think because I know you can talk about it,
but when you look at the roof and you're trying
to catch that foul ball man, they can get lost
in the lights and the bars and everything else. So
and then the dirt, you know, they even made a
point to go up to the Round Rock Express to

(42:38):
just take some infield yep, because the dirt is different
and you get different hops different you know, it hits
a pebble and it's going left instead of straight at you.
So yeah, it'll be it'll be a good test for
them this weekend.

Speaker 2 (42:49):
I wanted to know about the dimensions of the park
and how that plays an effect on the way that
you employ your defense, Like does it affect them from
a standpoint of having more ground to cover or does
the problem I don't know if you would say problem,

(43:13):
but if it's because you have guys that haven't covered
that much space on their own.

Speaker 4 (43:19):
Before, yeah, I think it brings some unique challenges.

Speaker 14 (43:22):
If you think about a guy like Ashton Larson, he's
not the speediest on the team, and he's playing in
left field, which at Dyke and Park down those power alleys,
they get real deep right and they have the weird curves,
and so if you don't play it right, it hits
one of those curves, you just gave up an extra
ninety feet or maybe one hundred and eighty feet right
like that can quickly run on you. And then in

(43:43):
right field, the way that it plays down the siteline again,
you just you have a lot of ground to cover
before you hit that bullpen, So you got to really
communicate with your center fielder. You know Mendoza over at
second base has got to be communicating in terms of
the cutoff man. So yeah, it's just a different challenge.
It's not the same as dish fault where you've got
the wind in the sun. It's more about the dimensions

(44:04):
and just how it plays.

Speaker 2 (44:06):
So it forces you to actually make a play on
the ball and not let the ball.

Speaker 4 (44:10):
Hit the ground.

Speaker 14 (44:11):
Oh yeah, absolutely, or sometimes you want to let the
ball hit the ground to keep it in front of you.
You do not want it to get by you and
hit those weird angles because it'll be gone.

Speaker 1 (44:21):
And that's why they got there early to spend more
time and coach said during practice that they were going
to spend most of their time working on the defense
because of those things that you had mentioned there. We're

go and take on Coastal Carolina, who's dealing with injuries
as of right now with their starting pitching. That was
going to be a primetime matchup tonight. But you also
have to go up against Baylor Bears. As coach Slasnego
said yesterday, he said that they've been playing a lot better,
and of course you finish it off with a big
ten in Ohio State. But tonight's matchup, Ruger Riojas back

on the mound and speak to what you've noticed about
Ruger in this new found row of Friday night.

Speaker 14 (45:17):
Yeah, Ruger, you know, he really put the work in
the offseason. I mean it sounds contrite, but he bulked
up right. You can tell in his neck, his shoulders,
his arms, you can tell that he's just he's stronger,
and so he's able to carry that velocity deeper into games.
Last year he was maxing out at ninety four. Now
he's up to ninety seven. But the thing that's impressed
he carries that ninety four throughout and as you know

(45:38):
a lot of pitchers, they start to lose their velo
the third, fourth, fifth inning. And the other thing that's
you know, just unique about Ruger is the different armslots
and shapes that he brings. You know, he really does
throw eight different pitches. And when you go through a
lineup and they don't see the same thing time and
time again, that makes it really tough. So he's just
he kind of brings that and I'm going to use

(45:59):
the new kid age that the aura to the mound. Right,
He's got that mentality, he's got that that presence that
it's unique, but it's all him, right, and so he
lives it.

Speaker 4 (46:08):
He loves it, and it shows what in his work.

Speaker 2 (46:11):
I love terminologies and you know I got hard. You
know he's he's saying don't get hot rather than don't
get mad.

Speaker 4 (46:20):
Uh, you know, like.

Speaker 2 (46:22):
Wrestling using wrestling terms. When you said vlo I turned out.
I said what and he said velocity turning out. I
love that you're teaching us speaking up velo.

Speaker 1 (46:36):
Aiden Robbins continues to have the exit speed on his
base hints and his home runs. You look at what
Ethan Anddoza has been able to do. Carson Tenti seems
to be finding his groove. But when you watch this team,
even Timo Pisela was able to find the gaps in
a couple of that bats. And we still don't have
a rod hitting on all cylinders yet. But the one

(46:59):
thing that I've been try on the tail people is
there's not a spot in the lineup where a pitcher
can relax. Are you recognizing some of the the nuances
of this new team that Texas.

Speaker 14 (47:11):
Has, Yeah, for sure. I was talking about this with
Schloss on our weekly show. But the thing that's impressed
is Timo Bessaer at the bottom of the lineup. You know,
he hits in that eight hole, and his maturity and
his presence at the plate and within the lineup really
helps protect freshman like Anthony Pack, who's been good in
his own right.

Speaker 4 (47:29):
Like, that's no downside the Pack.

Speaker 14 (47:30):
But when you can flip a lineup over and the
top the bottom doesn't look much different and you just
got guys that are hitting consistently, that's that's massive. You
know last year Texas did not have that. When you
got to the bottom of the lineup. It was like
we might go an inning to two innings before we
get another guy up that can really hit it consistently.
And so that's that's been a huge boost to this

(47:52):
program in this offense. And then then two numbers that
stick out to me is they're hitting over five hundred
and slugging, but they're almost hitting five hundred and on
base percentage, So they're hitting for power and consistency. Like,
that's you know, that's so unique. Normally it's all power
or all you know, on base with no slugging. So
that's that'll be interesting to watch how it kind of

(48:13):
you know, evens out over time, but it's a good start.

Speaker 2 (48:17):
Is there anybody else in college right now that's doing that?

Speaker 14 (48:21):
Yeah, some of the teams like Georgia, you know, Ole
Miss and a couple of others certainly are. But it's
it's different, right Like you don't. They're probably more leaning
on power than Texas is. But like I said, they
only have what thirty nine or forty eight bats at
this point during the season, so it'll start to even out.
But it's if they can carry this through, you know,

(48:42):
you're looking at a top rated team in the nation
for sure.

Speaker 1 (48:44):
Not only that, one of the things that continues to
impress me is the fact that they're getting two out RBIs,
they're getting two out base hits and extending innings. Just
when you think you're out of the woods with it,
they get a next guy up and they're driving in runs.
I believe the other night against UTRGV, the last I looked,

(49:05):
they were like six hundred with two out base hits
and with runners in scoring positions, so exciting time for
this Texas long horned team. I wanted to ask you
your thoughts on this weekend as Texas will play those
three big time matchups.

Speaker 4 (49:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 14 (49:22):
I mean, for me, the biggest thing is I'm personally disappointed,
and you know, I hope he gets better soon. But
not having Cam Fluke on the Mound or the Coastal
this weekend just you know, I was really excited to
see him just because he's a special pitcher. But I
think Coastal brings an interesting matchup to Texas. They're a
gritty team. You know, they've won a lot of games.
They're not the same on the pitching side, but it'll

(49:44):
be interesting to see how Texas matches up with them.
For Baylor, you know, the thing, you look at them
in and they're a really young team, even though they've
had twenty guys on the roster that are, you know,
fairly new to the program from the outside. But Mitch
Thompson can ttinues to build that program up and so
you get to see Baylor just taking those baby steps.

And then Ohio State, I think the whole thing around
them is they they've got to use their run game
to really put pressure on Dylan Milantis and you know,
try to attack Carson Tini, which best of luck to him.
I mean, Tenny's been amazing, but you know, they just
they don't have the bullet bullpen depth.

So if Texas is able to get to their.

Bullpen, you know, that could be in a long game
for Ohio State on Sunday.
