Speaker 1 (00:15):
Pushkin. Hi, I'm Anita Hill. You probably know me or
think you do. Years ago, I was a young lawyer
working in DC. I was hoping to make a difference
to make my family back in Oklahoma proud. But everything

(00:35):
changed in nineteen ninety one when I testified at a
Supreme Court confirmation hearing. I became a public figure overnight,
and I was vilified. After the hearing, I was at
a crossroads. Would I remain in the public eye or retreat.

(00:55):
Would I be an educator or a crusader. In the end,
I didn't have to choose. These days, I teach social
policy in law, I authored books and articles, and educate
on issues of race and gender. But there are still
so many questions that keep me up at night, like

(01:18):
how do we solve systemic cultural problems and hold each
other accountable for creating positive change. In my new podcast,
Getting Even, I'm going to answer these questions by seeking
and sharing stories of who we are and who we
can be lessons from the law and from the human experience.

(01:43):
I've learned firsthand about our country shortcomings, and despite it all,
I still believe that we can solve society's biggest problems.

Model Wars

Model Wars

On the surface, the modeling industry in the 80s was about parties and pretty clothes, but underneath the flash, there were drugs, sex, and violence. And Paul Fisher, a former straight-A student from the San Fernando Valley, rose to prominence amidst the turmoil. After a chance encounter with an alleged mobster, Paul suddenly found himself with a million dollars in funding and the chance to start a modeling agency in New York City. The city was then embroiled in a “model war” between industry titans Eileen Ford and John Casablancas, and Paul tried to make his mark. But even as Paul thrived in the party-heavy culture of the time, burning cash like a furnace, he came face to face with the darkest forces in the industry. As his shady backers put the screws to him, Paul faced down deadly consequences, trying to make a star while saving his soul.
