Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey there. My name is Lauren ober and I'm a
journalist and a podcast host. You might know me from
some of my work. Lovely, I'm Lauren ober And from
American Public Media. This is a spectacular failure. I'm Lauren
ober And from WAMU and NPR. This is the big Listen.
But I'm not just a worker. I'm also a loud talker,
(00:24):
a dog owner, and a Pittsburgher, among other descriptors that
end in er oh. And as of late twenty twenty,
I am also officially autistic, which came as a surprise
because I don't fit into a lot of the stereotypes
about autism or what I thought I knew about autism
(00:47):
before I found out I was autistic. But on my
new show, The Loudest Girl in the World, we leave
the autistic tropes behind and experienced neurodiversity in a way
it's never and portrayed before. And I know that because
it's all about me. I used to play a game
with Lauren. I would say, what we have to stop
(01:08):
talking about. I'm going to walk you through my own
experience from the time my sixth grade teacher put me
in a cardboard box to shut me up to the
time I melted down as an adult over a caper
in my soup, to my decision at forty two to
finally get evaluated for autism. Since this show is all
(01:31):
about the journey of self discovery, you're going to be
right there with me. You'll tag along as I take
a battery of autism tests. This is truly bullshit. It's
literally hurting my brain right now. And you'll be in
the room when I awkwardly tell a group of friends
about my diagnosis. Oh, I recorded this is that okay,
(01:53):
and you'll sit with me during the dark times. But
befair warrant, the dark times are really dark. You got
this shower and just like immediately started Craig Paula rocking
back and forth, griding, griding, gride. But it's not all
(02:17):
saddo stuff. We're going to make a lot of autistic friends.
I want to know, will you be my autistic friend?
I would love to be your autistic friend. Yes, Build
autistic Worlds, welcome passengers to Air Autismia flight F eighty
four point zero non stop to Autismbergtown, del Borow, and
generally have some solid laughs along the way. Who knew
(02:41):
the depth of emotion that could be triggered by the
mere caper. The Loudest Girl in the World dropped September thirteenth.
