בפרק העשרים של שְׁכַר סוֹפְרִים מתארחת אצל שי עמית הסופרת גיל הראבן. סופרת בלתי משוכפלת בעולם הספרות העברית. אמנית שאינה מטפחת לעצמה פרסונה, ואינה משועבדת לא לדימוי ציבורי ולא לתחושה של חשיבות עצמית. נדמה שהיא מתרחשת כאדם כותב כדי להתרחש. גיל אפשרה לנו להבין את התבוננותה במילים הכתובות בעדינות וברוך. ראייה כמעט מתמטית המנוסחת בצורה כל כך בהירה ואותנטית. יצאנו למסע אל ילדותה כנצר לשושלת של ספרות עברית, איך כבר כילדה קיבלה אישור מאימה (שולמית הראבן) לעבור לספריית המבוגרים. ואיך מרגע זה ספרים היו והנם חייה. בנדיבות לבה המשכנו במסע אל נערה שהרחיבה את עולם המושגים והאפשרויות עד לכדי מודעות לזיוף בכתיבה - זאת בגיל שבו ילדות כותבות יומן. בין לגימה ללגימה דיברנו על נחיתותו של הרצון "לרגש" או "לזעזע"; על כתיבה כמחקר ששואף להתקרב להבנה של דברים; על "אמת סיפורית"; על דמויות שיכולות להפתיע כמו שבני-אדם מפתיעים; ועל ה"עצמי שלה", שלא מעניין אותה בכתיבה. שוחחנו על העולם שיוצרות המילים הכתובות, וכיצד הפליאה ממנו אוחזת בה במהלך התהוותו של ספר. צחקנו מעט כשנחשפנו ליכולת שלה לשכוח את כתביה על מנת שתוכל ליצור עולמות חדשים. שוחחנו גם על ניקיון דעת, על מבוכה, על תרגומים ותסריטים, ועל המרחבים שבין אולפן בהוליווד לבין מכונת הפקס במכולת. דומה שגדולתה של גיל היא בתבונתה הצלולה, או אולי בשאלה הפשוטה - "למה צריך לעניין אנשים שאני כותבת ספר?" וכמו במסע חייה, וכמו בכל ספריה, שיחתנו לא נחתמה באיזשהו מסר או לקח. היא הוליכה להבנה טובה יותר של סוגיות שעלו בה.
