המכתב ששלח פרופסור שחר קוטינסקי, פרופסור למדעי המחשב בטכניון, לנשיא הטכניון, פתח צוהר לחייהם של סטודנטים ומרצים ימנים או תומכי רפורמה באקדמיה הישראלית כיום.
במכתב פורש קוטינסקי את טענותיו כלפי הסגל האקדמי בטכניון בפרט, אך למעשה נגד כל האוניברסיטאות בארץ. בן היתר הוא מאשים את האקדמיה הישראלית בסתימת פיות, ובניתוק מחלק עצום בעם, וגם באקדמיה כמובן, שתומך ברפורמה, אך מפחד לומר זאת בקול.
כשמתבוננים בתוך הצוהר שנפתח, מגלים שהמכתב הזה הוא רק קצה הקרחון. סטודנטים ימנים מדברים על סתימת פיות נרחבת, פיצוץ כנסים, פגיעה בציונים, מרצים שסורקים את הרשתות החברתיות של התלמידים במטרה למצוא "פוסטים מפלילים", התמיכה בפורמה ועוד. הסטודנטים הימניים מדברים על ביטויים של הנוסעים, ודמיון מוצא במצבים לתיאורים שסופר ג'. אורוול בספרו 1984 וחוות החיות.
