Speaker 1 (01:35):
There was a lot of content if you want to
check out on AFL today you for our brownlow content,
bit controversial, lads, that was a bit interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah, it was love.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
I'm going to get fired up.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
I'm as calm as you, Q. I don't want to calm.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
No, I'm calm.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
I think I've actually thought about it.
Speaker 6 (01:56):
In the umpires, we're spot on no oh no, and
the Empires were horrendous when the thoughts were gone through
the head with some of those votes.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
But Maddie Rael deserve winner. I mean, he was great
all year. I'm not going to say. I'm not going
to say you had a bad year. I don't even
think he probably the best year at Gold Coast. But
he couldn't have happened to a nice bloke. And I'm
saying that genuinely because he was very nice guy. We
saw him yesterday outside crowd outside Crown at South Bank
after even after he finished his his interviews in his
(02:28):
media stuff, he went around and shook all the cameramen,
all the j Very nice man.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Very nice man. But he wasn't even the best player
on his team. Anyway. We will touch on that on
another show.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Let's get into it Saturday, that big dance lads, Joe
long Verse Brisbane. The time it should be Saturday two
thirty at the mcg or a big controversial at the
time it should be, but I genuinely think it shouldn't
change Brisbane. This is three straight Grand finals for them
and Jasper Fletcher three seasons, three grand finals. He says,
this is the easiest sport in the world.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
We're going to do is be named Jasper spelt differently.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
Yes, normal, he's hitting his bonus every year in his contract. Well,
making the Grand Final?
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Do you reckon they have they have log poor game.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Yeah, different sort of black bonus like they have like
amendment addendums.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
I've got no, that's right, he doesn't clearly doesn't.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Obviously. These two sides of Brisbane and Gelong have met
three times this year. Lines won two in the regular season.
The Cats dominated the qualifying final only a couple of
weeks ago. The Cats, in that match had thirteen different goalkickers,
dominated the marks inside fifty twenty one to six.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Are they the fair favorite in this one? N's yeah. Fair.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Everyone's seen that performance and has gone yeah, Geelong.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
And they've seen.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
Obviously last week how clinical they were against the Hawks,
so they've gone Geelong.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
But it doesn't always make that big of a difference.
Anything can happened on Grand Final day. In terms of selection,
we're going to start there. It seems like Jared Berry
will be out, which is sad for him because he
got that shoulder injury. But the superstar, the multi Brownlow medalist, Locky.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Neil is in. Now.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
This is the big storyline heading into Grand Final week.
Would you guys have him in your side or would
you play him because he's an old man, he's got
a calf injury.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
It's a bit hard an injury.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Would you guys playing well.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Look, we've seen a lot of recent Grand Finals where
teams rush their players back at the backfires because they
end up losing. As a hawksman, seeing Cyril come back
with a bug hammy and get through somehow, that was
a miracle. Look, it's the Grand Final at the end
of the day, it is the body Grand Final. If
you rush you if you rush your best player back
one or two weeks early to try and help your
(04:35):
team win and the backfires like you tried it.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
I don't know. I feel like it's fine to play
him and you should play him. I agree you should
play him.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
He's one of six people in history to win two
or more Brownlow Medals.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
I think that sounds about right.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
You have to put him on the back. It's as
simple as that. But the only thing I'm worried about,
because we saw what happened with Collinwood last week against Brisbane, yes,
was that Penleby was a little bit so in the
warm up is talking to the doctor talking about his calf,
and then he's on for two or three minutes and
gets subbed because he's got a complaint about his calf.
And then that just rules out your stube early in
the game, and then that sort of put you on
(05:10):
the back pedal in case you want to bring some
sort of X factor off the bench. That's the only concern.
But I think Locke Neil will just play through it anyways.
It's a Grand Final at the end of the day.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Yeah, I was just gonna say, I think that is
a It is a big concern because it's a massive risk,
but it's it's Locky Neil.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
Rather a sixty percent Locky Neil or someone else. Do
you reckon sixty.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Percent Locky near They could go at any moment or
what like a Sam Marshall in his first year.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Or Bruce Ravela. I love Bruce Bruce Spring like you
know what I mean. I feel like.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
There's not only on field as well like off the field,
he will bring so much like on the ground, if.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Your leader, he's been there, he's been there.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
Obviously a lot of players have been there and done it.
There were last year.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
But yeah, I feel like I feel like Brisbane fans
in the comments should let us know what they're thinking. Yeah,
because whether if i'll you're a lines fan, whether you
want Neil in the team or not.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
A bit really interesting to.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
See a good call. In terms of Geelong, you've got
Tom Stewart will miss of course with concussion. That's very
sad for him.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
What a joke?
Speaker 4 (06:09):
What a pre Grand final boy?
Speaker 2 (06:12):
What an idiot getting concussion?
Speaker 1 (06:13):
You know he's not going to change it? What just
last week? Oh Tom, you're going to do Let's have
a bye, guys, let's let's change the whole plan of sports.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
But it's just the fact that they didn't have it
in the first place. Easy in hindsight.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Jeezus. Okay, the Cats are fifteen and two when he
has a minimum three intercepts of four and four without him,
How big of it out is he is?
Speaker 2 (06:33):
The first question? That's because Tom Stewarts is a superstar.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
Yeah, massive out, I think, although I know when he
came off last week, I think Kat's already said a
little bit and they really dug deep defensively. But he's
someone that can take the load off the others around him.
He can take the load off Henry de Cooning and
young O'Sullivan to playing in his first Grand Final.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
So I think obviously huge out huge.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
He agreed. You spoke about the qualifying final previously and
how they dominated. Geelong dominated mark inside fifties twenty one
to six. I think that that number six in Geelong's defense,
that that Lions took inside fifty will partly because of Tom,
partly because of Tom Stewart, and you could probably see
that increase possibly a fair amount with him out, and
it just changes the whole Geelong back line.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
As Lea mentioned, he even got a goal against Brisbane
as well, which is pretty everyone did. As we mentioned
thirteen different goalkickers. Now who comes in for Tom Stewart.
You've got Jed Bues I don't mind, and then you've
got Recee Stanley. So if Free Stanley plays, is he
one of the best two time premiership players of all time?
Speaker 4 (07:34):
Of course there's when you're talking about only great players
playing two premierships, so the very least so Ree Stanley
for sure, But in all seriously, I would actually pick
Ree Stanley over Jed Buis I agree with that, You
don't agree. I just think with you're gonna have you
they're going to play Darcy four and Big O. Yeah,
obviously and Blitzer. Look, he's done great in the rock
he was very versatile. He could more than do a job,
(07:57):
but he's not a you want to kind of use
law him throughout other areas of the ground and have
the opportunity to do so. And with Ree Stanley in
the side, coming up against those genuine rock craft versus Rockcraft,
it allows Blitzers to do something different and possibly push
Blitzalves back. With Stuart out, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
I mean you could push Blix Saves back, but I'd
argue that even locksdown, Blick saves more. And I'd rather
see Buz come in defensive reinforcement for a defensive player.
And you're talking about Blick Slaves in the ruck. I
want to talk to you about Blix Saves. Last week
he only had three less hit outs than me, only
three less hit out, So.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
I don't think you.
Speaker 7 (08:34):
Right.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
And he's better at the ground level.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
He's better at ground level meek is I would say
better ruckman than both four and the Big O, Yes, individually.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
And on top of that.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
Blick Saves has eleven tackles in a goal And if
you want to move him around. They have Sam Dacne.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
You can go on the ruck and chop out and
you can move Blick Salves back. You can move him
too a wing. So get schooled, buddy.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
In the comments, fans, wh would you rather the side?
Speaker 2 (09:00):
They're on my side?
Speaker 4 (09:01):
They definitely say abused because Steeley is a bit of
a mug. But I just think tactically it might work.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Player.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
It will be interesting to see in the comments. Yeah,
there we go, drop of one nil.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
For Lea Ni.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
There we go, tag slash matchup.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
Watch.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
We've been looking at this all seasons across Geelong games,
Sydney games, but now we're going to specifically look at
this one.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
The Cats.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
I think Lea chuck this went in there the Cats
and the holy Trinity of Taggerts. So you've got mullin,
Atkins and O'Connor that can do a real defensive job.
Mullen last time kept McCluggage to just Ford end disposals.
O'Connor went to Rainer and the only reason Rayner got
two goals because the umpires gifted me a couple kicks.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
Three in the kicked.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Yeah, but it wasn't that impactful. I don't reckon. I'm
getting a bit angry with you. I like Camerina. I
just want to discuss that.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
Do we think that they should do the similar matchups
Geelong or should they change it up?
Speaker 2 (09:48):
I think so.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
I think I maybe maybe would put Atkins on mcluggage
because I think Atkins can do the same thing like
Atkins did the same thing.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
On Newcomb last week.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
And then I maybe look at Mulin if a small
forward gets off the chain, because that's where I think
maybe Bob goals can come from from Brisbane. Like if
if you've got Loman off the chain, if you've got
Charlie Cameron off the chain, you could probably put Mullin
to either of those.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
So that's maybe one thing i'd slightly change.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
Yeah, I'd go a little bit differently. I'll probably just
put Atkins on Neil, who's coming back from an injury.
If you don't need to, you don't need to. But
if you're going to put him on anyone, I think
I think Neil, because you could put Will Ashcroft on him. Well,
I'm just really let's just see how much game time,
like on ground game time he actually has. Looking Yeah,
(10:37):
but I do think look Mullin worked on mclouggy to
the last meeting fourteen, and then mcluggage was superb in
both the semifinal and the prelim final and Brisbane win
those games. So I think he will have more impact
on the game than a sixty percent look in near yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Okay, okay, And on Malin, I just don't think you
should have his kicking license, just a random one.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
He starting the team for.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
I know there was a few times last week I'm like,
just go back to the tag mate, or just handball.
He kicked, He kicks the sideways and as I saw
so many Johns fans going, oh no, be good kickers.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
Well, Leo's got a loophole against around the tagging situation.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
The coaches had on coaches had for Leo's loophole.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
I want to I do want to post something out
for you boys.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
If let's say there's a world where Will Ashcroft is tagged,
mccluggy just tagged, and Rainer is tagged, and all three
taggers obviously brilliant in their own right, but if your
Brisbane would you look at giving those three guys the
majority of center bounce attendances, because if you look at it.
The three taggers will not all start in a center bounds.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Well you can't the three taggers on the three tag e's.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Yeah, then they're not going to win.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
They're not going to go to win the ball that
they're there to make sure their player doesn't. And Geelong
will then be forced into playing two of probably dangerfield
bas and homes, which is obviously fair enough. Ye center bounce,
But then does that mean that there's more chance for McCluggage,
Rainer and whoever the third guy is to be way.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
More impactful in the c.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
And may I add if Neil isn't tagged and he's
coming back from injury, could you play him as a
forward like a half forward, sneak him away a little
bit even if his cbas I know, he's a brilliant
ball winner, but you could play him as a high
half forward getting up to stoppages and maybe you could
sneak a goal.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
It's brilliance small forward. Chris Fagan better be listening to this.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
Forget about coach of the year, Chris Fagan.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Yes, this is the coach of the year. I was
going to ask you guys, is Chris Fagan going to
throw a spanner in the work, so that's exactly what
Leo wants him to do.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
I don't even think that's a spanner though.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
I think that that would be like a spanner would
be like I don't know, putting thecluggage at half back
or something.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
I don't mind that either, look a half forward.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
That's the other one that they could look at. Tagging.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
Is that one that Mullen could go to or because
I feel like I kind of has the height and
strength for the rainer type.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
Yeah, and I think that matchup is set in stone.
But I like the set of Man's plan. I like it.
I like it. Come on, you like it.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
We watch the Cbas very closely. We'll talk about it
in the rap show talking about Tigers. Do Brisbane player
in the gating to the role with Dunkley?
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Yeah, what do you guys think? What do you think.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
Likeas finished third in the ground because.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
You got Dunkley could go to what danger bas homes
or like I can't believe dangers back in that conference.
Like obviously he's a superstar. I didn't think he had
that in him last week. So now he's a bit
of a worry for Brisbane.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
Now just take your pick of who's gaining the most momentum,
who's getting off the chain a little bit. Dunkley will
be a majority of cbas or even just stoppage clearances.
I think the stoppage clearances you put someone on Danger
rather than really yeah, because I think Danger has he's
more likely to use his body. But and like you mentioned,
like he would just get a handle out and his
(13:48):
strengthen his hips, he can get out of the contests
and break through and kick a goal, very like Dustin Martin.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
Like, but that's what I'm saying, Like, is there even
a point if he's just going to do that anyway?
Speaker 4 (13:56):
Well not if Dunkley's there, Dunkley could try and stop that.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
That would be a good matchup seeing Dunkley who is
him and Atkins are the best tacklers in the game
in my opinion on our as.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
Well statistically to the top three this season, I'd say
Row would be the other one.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
Yeah, so you've got those two guys who are obviously
excellent in that craft. I'd love to see Dunkley on
Danger for that reason, to see if Danger can still
break those tackles.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
But I still think you got your start.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
On bass the most damage.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
It's showtime bats.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
Actually he's going to get a few boo bas and
how many he's going to show the Burtons corporate?
Speaker 4 (14:34):
I think so. No, I think he's one people over
with his speedo.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
Speedo, Sonny's one people over.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
It's definitely won Liam over in the in the socials,
he wore some sunglass.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
Might have been a bit of pround for the socials,
I reckon you would never still a bit of a tool.
But anyway, there we go, sharp tool, there we go.
Another matchup is Levi Ashtroft and Olie Dempsey. Now the Lions,
they need this match up just not to happen that.
I don't know how they're going to do it. Maybe
set some screens like in basketball, just just to get
the hat on the wheel. Because Dempsey had twenty five
(15:06):
disposals three goals, absolutely taught young Levi apart in the
qualifying final. Who do we think, what would you do
with Levi? And should you try and get Dempsy near
him just to annoy him.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Well, it's a bit of a shame for Brisy because
Jared Berry would be perfect for this. I can match,
can match Dempsey's athleticism and overhead marking. Can play a
bit more of a defensive role when needed. When needed,
Jared Berry can, so you look at their wing options Brisbane.
If Neil does come in, he's obviously more insight.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
You've got Levi.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Who I would probably play a bit more forward of
the ball if possible, goals with the other one who
has been impressive. I really like the look of his
Sam Marshall, but he's in his first year. He's got
some composure, nice on the outside. But is he one
you're going to back in against Olli Dempsey who's very
creative going forward. Just someone I think if Geelong are
(15:59):
going to win this match. I think Dempsey has a
big saying, can really exploit.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
Yeah, that's definitely the area of the ground where Chris
Scott can exploit.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
He'll be like in his lip also.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
But it's half for Brisbane to just keep up with
the long haired Yahoo plays like you can't tell, like
it's like I'm on empty and then the cone is
over there and Stuart.
Speaker 4 (16:16):
Maybe that's why Loman shaped his hair. Maybe everyone's getting
a bit confused. I love how did you see the
last week? Everyone going No one calls him David Beckham.
No one calls you that mate, that's all the Bristol players.
Then he's like, yeah, oh the team mates have call me.
No I like calling the boy in the striper jams.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
Smell there we go, There we go. I didn't think
we'd get a smel shout out. Next one, Leo wanted
to ask this one, to ask it for you. Who
is the most important player on the ground. Obviously we've
got some superstars. It doesn't have to be the cream
of the crop, the best players. But who do you
think the most important player on the ground is. I'll
start with Leo because he's a bit controversial.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
I think it's Neil Shannon, Neil Neil Neil.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
I just reckon, we've seen We've seen.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Nils up and Neil what about me?
Speaker 2 (17:04):
It is fair.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
I did consider making shadow even I said it was
too far.
Speaker 5 (17:08):
That was good.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
I just think we've seen what Harris Andrews is done,
not just in the finals, but this season his whole career.
He's so critical for Brisbane. I think was this you
stat's going this?
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Inn?
Speaker 1 (17:20):
I can He's averaging at nineteen disposals, thirteen and a
half marks and nine and a half intercepts in the
last two finals. Obviously had a bit of a quiet
one last time against Gralong, so Neil did well on
him like Neil did well, So he's definitely going to
stay on Neil and not go to Jess because you'd
rather him as an intercept.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
Is that what we like?
Speaker 3 (17:37):
I think, Yeah, Gardner or Lester will have their hands
full with Jess.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
I think Gardener for sure.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
But you're saying with Neil, he's sort of got to
play a bit more defensive and getting the way of
Harris and.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
Take him away from the dangerous space.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
I think when the balls go inside fifty for the Cats,
Andrews is fantastic at where he sets up where he
can read the play and chop it off.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
Neil honestly has to play a decoy.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
He needs to be far away from where Andrews is
or either putting body on Andrews.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
You can't be in between.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
If you're far away and the Cats players are looking
inside fifty, you either use him or you don't, but
you probably have to use him.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Make Andrews a cannibal. But if Neil's on him.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
You body him up straight away, take away any space
he can to take the mark.
Speaker 4 (18:17):
So I think it's a very similar sort of role
that Billy Frampton. True, and it worked against the same
opponent as well. So if you'd be as happy as
a Gelong support if you can keep Andrews quiet even
if Channa Neil doesn't kick a goal and has three
for disposals, as long as he's done his job and
it allows you know, the likes of danger, more one
on one contests and more one on one.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
They have enough goal kickers that they'll be fine without
Neil and he's like scoring output like.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
That, Marcus, your most important player of the game. I
want to go.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
We talked about the Geelong player, so it's only fair
that we go to the Brisbane side of things. And
I think this is the biggest barometer in the Brisbane lineup,
and that's Cam Rainer. I know he's going to be
copying some attention, but you saw how much of a
barometer he was able to play in the qualifying final,
although in all fairness, Dodgy free kick to get him
(19:06):
a couple of goals. But even he he sparks momentum.
He's a player who can He just needs that one moment,
but it will have so many moments throughout a game
where he can you know, he'll kick one from sixty,
he will kick one from the boundary, he will force
a free kick, and he loves getting the crowd rolled
up as well. So cam Rayner for me, is the
most important and he could you know, cop some attention
(19:29):
from the crowd as well, so he will need to
roll himself up.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
So he did get the crowd going after.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
I reckon he's more likely to be booed than bads.
Yeah are good.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Yeah, well, there could be a lot of booing if
they both have over like a few touches.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
But I don't think I don't think that.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
A lot of people just.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
Don't like that man.
Speaker 4 (19:48):
But Rainer is in great film as well. He loves
playing in the state. Two plus goals in his last
ten interstate games, which.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
Is pretty good because they obviously play while with the gab.
But but he'd been awesome away. In terms of another big man, Jeremy,
he came and we've got to talk about him.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
You see, the most important player on the ground for you,
I think.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
So. I think a lot of the times big forwards
go missing, and you can see that through the years
gone by with Norm Smith. The TWLL forwards don't really
win the Norm Smith. So he's kicked seven goals across
his last three meetings with the Lions, averages just under
four scoring shots a game versus the Lions, which is
another one. But he's been a bit inaccurate lately and
especially against Brisbane. I think he kicked two three, So
do we think he can fire up?
Speaker 2 (20:24):
And how many is? How many is he going to kick?
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (20:26):
I think I think he can definitely fire up. I
can see him kicking three goals, three to three to
five to be honest.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Yeah, but is he going to be inaccurate like he
has been lately or is he going.
Speaker 2 (20:35):
To straighten up?
Speaker 3 (20:36):
I can just straighten up. So he's going to kick
three one, four, one four one?
Speaker 4 (20:40):
Does he pull out till you pull out?
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Another key celebration if they win? If they if they
if they win and really lose his Premiership medal on
a cow again, I think I think he's past that.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
I think he's he's going to move on to the
other farm animals Like what pick?
Speaker 1 (20:58):
You can't be saying that, So yeah, I'm going to
go I'm going to say four goals as well, don't mind,
I reckon, he's gonna have a big day. All right,
Before we get into our tips for the big game,
we're going to cut to a chat with Jess Robinson
from Code Sports. All right, we've got a special Grand
Final segment. We've got Jess Robinson from Code Sports. Thanks
for jumping on, Jess, and are you pumped for Grand
Final week?
Speaker 7 (21:16):
I'm so pumped. This is a match up that I
don't think many people can actually predict what's going to happen.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
No, it's just literally could go the way we were
talking before we jumped on here and saying, oh, we
could tip prison, we could tip to along. We'll get
into that at the end of this little chat. The
one we want to touch on, which we touched on
earlier in the show, is Locky Neil. I saw that
Code Sports footage of him at training looked a bit ginger.
I was a bit worried about him. What's your thoughts
have been playing? And I heard Jay Clark saying he
could be playing? Yeah, what are your thoughts on all this?
Speaker 7 (21:41):
Yes, so, Chief footy writer j Clark. The story went
up this morning speaking about the Lions plan for Locke
Neil's return, which if he does return, it'll be actually
a medical miracle.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
I'm gonna call it.
Speaker 7 (21:54):
Referenced in the story is doctor Peter Larkin's renowned sports doctor.
He has called it.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
A high risk return.
Speaker 7 (22:03):
I mean, which we do know Lockie's only played one
match in fifty four days. It'll be by the time
we hit Grand Final days, So if he does return,
there's a lot of risk that goes with it. I
do think Brisbane will take the risk. They'll probably want
to have a double a duel in there. But calf
injuries his age, it's a recurring injury. Something like a
(22:28):
calf can just happen so quick and re trigger. So yeah,
he pulled it well just under three weeks ago.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
Again, that's crazy. That's a crazy quick turn around.
Speaker 7 (22:39):
Very quick turnaround. So I mean people are saying he's
one hundred percent playing. I think the people around Locke
a very convinced that he'll make the comeback, and I
think the footy world would love to see it and
see him get through one scage as well.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Yeah, absolutely, I think just because, as you said, Jill Brown,
the menutes you want to see him play. Obviously, some
more good news story Max Holmes and Oscar Macanoni most
likely said to play in Grand Finals. They missed him
in the past due to injury. What do you think
these names bring to the team, and just it just
feels good to see them playing, because it's tough when
players miss out in Grand finals.
Speaker 7 (23:09):
Yeah, we love to see these few good stories and
there's nothing worse than a heartbreak. We've got Tom Stewart
missing out of course, which is heartbreaking in itself. But
Oscar was the ultimate team player last year. He got
around his teammates just so unbelievably, so he'll absolutely be
relishing this opportunity. He was so humble the other the
(23:30):
other night as well, when Brisbane had got through, saying,
I don't know if you know, I have to make
it through selection first.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
He seems like the biggest gentle giant and everyone just
sort of loves him and I think they were trying
to give him some medals and he didn't want it
last last year, so it'd be a really good story
if he could get that. And then Max Holmes as well,
just that classy player, so you need him in your
team and they would have missed him yet couple of
years ago.
Speaker 7 (23:52):
Yeah, of course he missed the twenty two Grand Final
with that hamstring injury, so he's got a big redemption
art coming this weekend and he couldn't be more pumped
about it. And I think everyone in the footy world
again is just going to be so excited to see
him out there. He's got an increased role off the
half back line of course with Tom Stewart as we
just mentioned, going down, so I think he relishes that opportunity.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
That'll be good now, Jess, I saw this morning and
across the last couple of days that you have an
article about Snoop dog So he's global reach. Obviously, he's
been around for a long time, but he's been absolutely awesome.
How do you think Snoop's going to go? And any
insights through an article on Code Sports as well.
Speaker 7 (24:29):
Yes, well, I spoke to the Mushroom creative director Tom McDonald,
who gave his plenty of insight into the Snoop Dogg performance,
which is going to be big.
Speaker 2 (24:39):
It's a big operation.
Speaker 7 (24:40):
He's bringing about between fifty and eighty people are traveling
with snow I.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
Reckon he's just done that to bring some mates over.
Speaker 7 (24:48):
There's definitely a big party coming with him, and then
there's an ensemble of about one hundred and fifty people
going to be on the stage or around the stage
performing alongside him. It's going to be a big band presence.
So they're definitely trying to build the spectacle. The AFL
went all in on this vision to create a global
moment about four years ago, started with Robbie Williams. Yes,
(25:12):
and of course they're trying to bring in the Australian
local ties, so Robbie had Delta this year, Snoop Scott
Tash Sultanas playing in his band.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Yeah, there's lots of Australian voices.
Speaker 7 (25:23):
Baker Boy Blue is going to be part of the
performance as well, so there's a lot to expect. I
think it's going to be it's going to be a
global spectacle and that's what the AFL is set to achieve.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
Yeah, I think they've done that, as you said, the
last couple of years.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
I don't know if you saw Snoop Dogg as well,
just on the field with the Dekos Brothers yesterday. He
was slotinham from everywhere from the boundary from forty meters out.
He looks I think he's six foot four could we
put him in the rock on Saturday just before the game. Yeah, yeah,
I know.
Speaker 7 (25:48):
I saw Alex's video and social calling him out saying
Geelong will probably manage to sign him up. But yeah,
he was kicking them out from forty. He kicked it
from the pocket.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
I was up. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (26:00):
I think the Dekos boys were actually pretty impressed.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Yeah they were.
Speaker 1 (26:02):
They were trying to teach him and then he just
was slotting them fro everywhere. So maybe Snook is more
talented than we thought. Finally, it wouldn't be a Grand
Final show, Jesse if I didn't get some tips for
you for the game. So I want to I'll start
with just who wins.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
Who's going to win this one?
Speaker 7 (26:14):
I really, I really, My heart says Brisbane, but my
head says geelongs I'm going in with Geelong, and I
think it's going to be, you know, a three to
four four goal games. I'm calling it twenty five points.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
Twenty five points, oh okay, so they'll win, yeah, pretty easily.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
Norm Smith in this one, I'm going to go back
to Holmes.
Speaker 7 (26:30):
I think he's going to really relish the opportunity to
be part of the Grand Final and he's got a big,
a big role to play, as we've mentioned by Tom
going down, so I think he steps up.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
No, I like that.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
And then we're going to finish with a big call.
We're going to have our big calls coming up on
the show as well, But what's your big call for
the Grand Final?
Speaker 2 (26:47):
Always tough to pick one in the Grand.
Speaker 7 (26:49):
Fin it's really I really struggled thinking of this, but
I really loved what Harris Andrews did in the pre
lim I mean, as he does all the time. It's
just such a staple of that defensive life. Why, yeah,
he's huge. So I think he keeps Jeremy Cameron at.
Speaker 2 (27:02):
Bay or how many goals is going to get on him?
Speaker 1 (27:05):
I think he might still kick two okay too, but
not a few big intercept marks from Harris Andrews.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
I'm expecting it like that. All right, Thank you very
much for coming on, Jess, Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (27:16):
All Right, lads, let's get into the tips and margin
for the big Grand Final day, that big dance whatever.
I wants to know, who are your tip? And I'll
start with are we all got on the same.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
Sheet?
Speaker 4 (27:29):
Ongoing Geelong? They enter the match's favorites. I do think
it'll be a close contest. Brisbane just know how to
get it done on the big stage and interstate. They've
been fantastic. They have been the best team this season.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
Geelong.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
Yeah, and I just think you know, obviously there's some
off field issues in terms of injuries still with with
Geelong with Tom Stewart out, but I just think they
have the nouse and they're going to get it done.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
We're going to get it done by a few kicks
in the house. Do you think they have more depth Gelong?
That's what That's how I'm leaning towards.
Speaker 4 (28:03):
Well, we went through Hawthorne verse Geelong and we actually
went on the Hawthorne side of things Geelong for the
bottom four players.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
It's definitely I think it's long in this one.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
But I think Geelong are just a little bit more
reliable in terms of in the middle and on the
outside with this one, especially with an unfit Neil very injured.
Dunkley is a bit sore as well.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
It's going to be super reliable. Though it doesn't seem.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
Hit us with the tip it might be a bit controversial.
Let him know in the comments what he's saying.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
Let me. Know what I'm saying is correct.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
I'll tell you what I'm saying Brisbane lines. I'm on
the Really, I don't hate. It was hard to tip.
At started the week, I was tip of Geelong and
it's tough to tip.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
But it was yesterday.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
It was a moment yesterday, and I'm just thinking about
this game and I'm going I just think on the day, it's.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
About who rises to the occasion.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
We're talking about the tags and all that, and very
that could very well happen because they're very good Tigers.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
They're great players. But it's just who.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
Steps up to the biggest of big moments and rises
to the pressure. And I just think it's going to
be Brisbane. I think they're going to win the midfield battle.
And I think that the way they when they win
that midfield battle, the way they move it forward, they
get a way of going that they get the uncontested
mark game going, which which really all starts with the
likes of.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
Zorka and Wilmot and Fletcher down back.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
I just think they're going to be potent and I
think they're just going to I know Gelong have been
so clinical, so that's why I'm very like the run.
Speaker 4 (29:32):
Off the runoff half back for Brisbane versus Geelong. Yeah, Fletcher, Fletcher,
Wilmore and then Geelong very much, you know, uncontested Mark
sort of Brisbane to be fair Brisbane, but if Wilmot
and Fletcher can spark something with runoff half back. We
saw Nick Dacos went for a run and Wilmot Lewie
just picked the ball up and was like, you know what,
(29:53):
I'll show you shrug the tackle of you Nick and
then run the dance. What you could say, so, what
you could say is you're being Leo the Lion.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
You could say that give us a rule.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
I was actually, now.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
I'll do a row a row.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
I'll do all.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
He has to rule your Marcus the mere.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Raw.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
I don't have any fan alright, I'm.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
Gonna rap up the tips in margin with my tip
Geelong by twelve. I'm learning towards what Marcus said. I
think Geelong I have more depth. I think they've got
just the stars that they don't have any guys other
than obviously Tom Stewart out big out, But I think
I have the more depth over all, and they're not
coming into the week with injured players. I reckon lock
your Neil is going to go down earlier. I hope
he doesn't because I love the boat. But he looked
really ginger at training, so I think that's not going
to help the lines and then down.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
What was that his hair color change? Gingering?
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Yeah, I'm welcome to way about this anyway, Gelong got
by twelve points. Before we get into the rest of
the norm Smith first got on all of our tips. There.
We're going to cut to Walley's best bet from footy.
Speaker 8 (31:09):
From gun Yeah, thanks guys. How good is Grand Final week? Well,
I'll tell you what. Harol and I have been just
finished recording and we're absolutely pumped about it.
Speaker 5 (31:17):
It's been some sort of year.
Speaker 8 (31:19):
We're looking forward to hopefully getting some winners on the
final day. We have two best bets for you this
week because there's two that we really really like.
Speaker 5 (31:28):
One is Geelong at the line.
Speaker 8 (31:29):
Well, they took care of Brisbane earlier in the final series.
They're actually facing a worse Brisbane. They're a little bit
more banged up. We don't know how fit Locky Nearly is,
how good condition dunk he's in. He obviously spent some
time on the pine in the preliminary Final, they dispatched
the Hawks in such impressive fashion. Also, their last quarters
(31:50):
are the best in the business. Brisban's are a little
bit of a fifty to fifty eight, which tells us
Geelong have that fitness edge throughout the final series and before.
Really so we're going to be playing Geelong at the
line we think they can win comfortably. The other area
that we really like is the total over points. The
line is about one hundred and seventy and a half
(32:10):
at the moment. We like it up to probably one
eighty ish. The thing with this is that both these
teams have been going over this mark recently. Their last
contest went over at the Geelong Prevem, went over two
hundred and was somewhat competitive for a half almost three quarters.
Speaker 5 (32:28):
So we think that Geelong are going to win this
one and it.
Speaker 8 (32:31):
Will be a relatively high scoring Grand Final anyway, Best
of luck, enjoy it and thanks for having us on.
Speaker 5 (32:38):
Good luck with the rest of the show.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
What Are You Really Gambling With? For free and confidential support,
call the number on the screen or visit the website.
Thank you very much to Wally. Make sure you check
out Footy form Guide on YouTube. They've been smashing it
out with the bets are absolutely flying the again winners
Galasso make sure you check out their show. All right, lads,
the big one, the Normy Norm Smith is going to
be astroft again on my starts Dolow word there.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Who do you think who's going to win the Norm Smith?
I think it's going to be Humor Cluggage. I think
he breaks the tag, I really do.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
I just it's about the day, it's about the occasion,
and I'm going on about.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
It, but it's going to happen. It's gonna happen about that.
Speaker 3 (33:12):
But I just think thirty in a couple of goals,
and I think Geelong will try obviously to tag him.
Is one of the best players, but he'll rise to
the occasion as an absolute superstar in a winning side.
Speaker 4 (33:24):
Yeah, I'm going to go Bailey Smith if finished third
in the Brown though. He's just built for these types
of occasions. He loves of the moment and I think
he could easily have thirty five disposals polish it off
with a goal or two. So I'm going.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
Bailey's what celebration would he hit if he kicks a
goal or like wins the.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
Normal or if he wins the Smith, He's already done
the list in it again.
Speaker 1 (33:44):
I reckon he might do like the head band because.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
I do not want to hear his speech though, I
feel like it would just be horrible, Like don't you reckon.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Are going to be funny?
Speaker 2 (33:53):
Give him the opportunity to the speedies like you.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Yeah, maybe while gets up on stage, lads, I'm going
to rode one Shawny matter matter from wearing me.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
Here we go.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
I love a bit of short matter different.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
I think he loves his short kings.
Speaker 5 (34:07):
Yeah, why not?
Speaker 2 (34:08):
Where's Grimes?
Speaker 1 (34:09):
Grimes? I think he is a very good player, but
I think that short matter is built for this occasion.
He's had multiple twenty plus disposal games and three goal
games in the one. I just think he's going to
have a really good game. I think eight of the
last twenty North Smith Medal winners. Obviously there's a lot
of midfooters in there, but eight of the last twenty
have actually been half forward slash wings as well. The
guys that can push up the ground get a bit
of the ball because there's a bit of space on
(34:29):
the MTG during Grand Final there whereas it's a lot
less space for the big forward, So I love jessic
Less spaces the same space.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
Same space.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
In Grand Finals, it just gets a bit clogged up,
and man is going to be on the outside and
clean it up and get a few goals.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
The dimensions change, they might that's up to Snoop DOGG.
That's up to Snoop dog We'll see.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
What he does, all right, first goal? Who is going
to kick the first goal? This is whateverone wants to
know earlier.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
So initially it was Jeremy Cameron. I just think it's
a sort of safe chance.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
But I like all the games. Yeah, I just reckon.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
We talked about the matchup he might get and he
just loves sort of sneaking out of the back, loves
getting a little, for lack of a better word, cheapy.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
To call him a cheap well, I said cheap, not cheaty,
but called him and the show that was a great
one on the field.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
But I can just see him getting on the end
of like a handble chain, quick snap around the corner.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
Everyone's rubbing his one locks.
Speaker 4 (35:29):
Is he the type of guy to you know that
kid in school just to peek over the smart kid's
shoulder and take some answers off you.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
Were that kid took the notes.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
Pretty good market, that's for sure. Next one, Marcus first golf.
Speaker 4 (35:45):
Yeah, I'm going to go Brisbane side of things and
I'm going to go Kyle Lowman. I was just thinking
another one. Who you know. It can be a barometer
for the Brisbane Lions. And he did kick the first goal.
I think kicked the first two goals for the Lions
in last year's Grand or Sydney kick the first goal
of that game, but Brisbane Kyle Loman was Brisbane's first
goal kicker, and I think why not. He'll spend the
(36:07):
majority of time in the forward fifty, So Kyle Loman.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
He will have a good sal push up celebration again
maybe up, maybe backflip or anything playing trying to get
back on the ground. What do you trying to hit
a wrap?
Speaker 2 (36:20):
Pb?
Speaker 4 (36:21):
What's the what's the yoga position called? Damn with dog
down my dog? Or growling frog?
Speaker 2 (36:27):
Is that a thing? No, that's a golf cary growling
frogs good thing. He's already given us good.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
Liam's good with his throat. He can give us a
growling frog.
Speaker 1 (36:37):
Yeah, that's that's a bit.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Yeah, what are you talking about over there?
Speaker 1 (36:40):
I've read a first goal is Charlie Cameron. I know
he hasn't met him the best of form, but he
actually got the first goal last time against John Kats
in the qualifying final. We're missing after that, but doesn't
matter if you look the first first thirty seconds. I
reckon he could start well the game.
Speaker 2 (36:55):
I'm pretty sure.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
And anyway, he got my goal. He's got the second
most first goals across these two across the last two years.
Speaker 3 (37:01):
So I just think, come at the moment, come with
the man. He'll come back on grand fine. Today started well.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
I don't know if you'll go missing in the second half,
but he just has to get first goal for this one,
So first golf him Lock of the week and big
coals have been doing this every single week of the season.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
We'll start with lock four muckets.
Speaker 4 (37:17):
I think it's pretty obvious Gelong utilized their taggers. It
doesn't even matter, does It doesn't have to be on anyone,
but the three weeks.
Speaker 2 (37:25):
In a row Bors worked for him nicely.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
That's a lot fair enough.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
I'm going with Harris Andrews.
Speaker 3 (37:31):
Four plus spoils average is like seven this year seven
ye seeking a Grand Final might be be more skeptical
on marking.
Speaker 2 (37:38):
It as well. So I just go to four spoilers.
Very nice.
Speaker 1 (37:40):
I'm going the tackle machine Josh Dunkley. Six bus tackles.
I've done this one before. He just I think he's
gone above eleven tackles in every single finals game this season,
so six plus he can do that anything.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
I could see him having a big tackle game fifteen,
but he beat the finals record of eighteen, which got
by himself.
Speaker 3 (37:59):
I could see him having a lot of tackles. Yeah,
a look at a lot of tackles. Whin you're norm
Smith could win if you have thirty, definitely win it.

You're not going to happen if he if he had
fifteen tackles thirty disposals.
