Speaker 1 (00:00):
AFL Today's Semi final preview is here at what a
show we had, Leo, what are we talking about?
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Puckball taking down the crumb I would name my firstborn
Jihan Newcomb.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
And are the Loins back?
Speaker 4 (00:10):
Are they the best team that's remaining when everyone's playing
at their best? I don't know, but I'm just looking
forward to Brisbane girlst calling them next week.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Absolutely check out the AFIL Today Show right now. The
semi finals are complete and welcome back to the AFL
Today Show, brought to by Stockhead. I'm your host Leah McCallan,
also as the stats guy. They've turned off and work
on us Sunday the boys the match, Thing one and
Thing two. I'm calling them today. We've got Leo Mahali,
Marcus Barzano.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
How are we?
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Let's up the bloody who?
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Good? I said it in the previous show that I
might I love talking about the semis Yes and Friday
Night therefore, man's how are you? Marcus? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (00:51):
I didn't quite have one while watching that game, but look,
tipping results didn't go to the call and Gold Coast
and Gold Coast were underwhelming.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
They were they were you were big on the on
the expansion clubs. We'll touch on that the expansion clubs
are a bit disappointing before we get into the into
the show, make sure you subscribe to AFL Today on YouTube,
follow us on ex, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok for more
forty content all season long.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Make sure you hit us up in the comments.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
I actually want to hear from the Adelaide fans how
disappointed they probably are, and all the other fans that
have won, and even fans the teams that aren't in,
and how are you watching the games as a newstual
and things like that, because we've had some awesome fin finals.
All right, let's get into the semi final results. Had
some huge semi finals Friday night. We're going to touch
on at the Adelaide Oval semi final. Adelaide Verse Hawthorne
is the first one Adelaide ten goals seven sixty seven
(01:37):
were absolutely smoked by Hawthorne fourteen seventeen, one hundred and one. Marcus,
what a game of footy? Leo is up and about
over there they were. I feel I feel like, cool,
you should run this game, leave because you're just so
up and about for fun buys.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
But what a start award was from the Hawks in
all honesty, they set the tone early and it felt
like the Hawks just booted the first three goals of
the game without Adelaide even having a single.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Touch forty five seconds.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
I reckon it took for him to get three, absolutely, and.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
Like the Crows, they settled as the game went on.
But Hawthorne they just they just seemed to dominate and
they Adelaide again for the second week in a row.
They seemed a wee bit nervous. Just the start of
the game was not great for the Crows. But Newcan
was the man who set the tone early, started like
a house on fire. We spoke how important he would
have to be if they were to get over the
(02:28):
line in this game, and he was definitely important. He
started with eleven disposals, five center bounce clearances from seven
attendances to start the.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Game just in the first quarter.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Six seven too.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
You just lost the word, but it was you mentioned it.
We watching the game together, all three of us, and
you mentioned the center clearance dominance at the start. It
felt like you had seven centate clearances before Adelaide even
were able to get on the board. In that department, crazy.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Where was that being the whole year?
Speaker 1 (02:57):
I didn't you say of the second worst clear the worst? No,
I think you were the second worst. I'm guessing behind
the egles.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
I'm pretty sure we're just guessing here.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
They were fantastic. Obviously, Ward probably out his best game
for the club.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Look never down at the man. Yeah, I hates a strong.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
I've heard worse than we have voice memo. Yeah, we can't.
We can't share those.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
So some of us were We've always rated him, always rated,
always read.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
But he was great.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Thirty one disposals, Warf was great to Nashville, did his
thing and nucan for the For the end of the game,
he had twenty eight disposals, eight clearances, and a goal
at ninety two percent disposal efficiency.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Not bad from the new end we mentioned it. What's
better than three bogs and three finals?
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Five?
Speaker 4 (03:43):
Four four bogs and four finals?
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Games?
Speaker 2 (03:48):
That men are built for the big occasion to do
it again next rak.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
If he just gets six finals bugs in a row,
they could win the Grand Joy Dustin Martin Nuke, He's
got four from four.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
Well, I see that's a Honestly, it's a better nickname
because what I've been seeing. Is the poo Wong punish up?
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Yeah? I feel like, yeah, if you put the put
it together, it's peepe oh he need being from poo
Wong is just a wild statement.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
That is the weirdest place name. He's pulling on the opposition,
that's for sure. Jack Gunstan was superb as well. Obviously
he is what is this mean?
Speaker 3 (04:22):
Benjamin Buden I put in the.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
Five goals, three sixteen disposals, seven marks as well, so
good on the lead. Absolutely fantastic and they just they
just seem every area of the ground is clicking of.
His defense was fantastic. The midfield was great and down
and forward too, like Nick Watson, like how much orders
that man possessed after not playing like as in he
hasn't played many career games of footy. But they literally
(04:46):
got a being named after him.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
It's I've got a banner.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
An accent, and it was he absolutely saw secret. He
did the what now now, I loved it. That's the
or a man of one hundred and seven has ever
had it. Yeah, if you had told me that a
player of his height could have or I would have
laughed at you face.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
But he kicked a gas. It was like Gas Junior
from the boundary is better.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
And another one that who's small on that forward line
and did do a job. No, it wasn't Jack Innifant.
It was actually it wasn't Jack in of it. It
was Sam Butler. Give give me a shout up because
he had nine tackles, two goals, fifteen disposed. He got
asked to do a job when he got brought into
this side against Gibs. He kept his spot and again
he's just done back to back games of what he's
(05:35):
needed to do and delivered and probably gone beyond that.
Ye sure, and he was arguably probably not in this
one the difference, but in the GBS game he kicks
the very important goal, very important goal put them two
goals ahead. And he's done it again here. And I
thought another one who was underrated in the Hawks defense
was Jack Scrimshaw, who's been very good, excellent down back
throughout the whole final series and honestly throughout the whole season.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
He just looked so stable down there.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
We talk about all the stars in their back line,
they're dominating in defense, and then I feel like Scrimshot
doesn't get talked about.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
But it was perfect, very good played awesome and Hawthorne?
Why can't they win the flag? Can they win the flag?
And why can start asking both?
Speaker 4 (06:14):
And I want to ask Leo, the resident Hawks fan,
because we know you're a bit of a pessimist.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Yes, but and just overall bad bloke? So why can't
they win the flag?
Speaker 2 (06:24):
I can't they win the flag? And why can they
want both? I love how you just went past the
bad bloke thing. You just say it's fine, rock up
on time? Why can they win the flag? You know
why they can win the flag? Well, guys, their back
line is potentially one of the best. Like you could
argue the back line seven is one of the best.
Left Yeah, I think seven people including the benches. I
(06:46):
think he's talking about that's on the bench. So the
back line seven, okay, okay, is rock solid. As you
mentioned stable, everyone's got their role, everyone off for something different,
and they've got flexibility with wet Or like, he looked
really dangerous when Lewis came off the ground forward wing.
They pushed him forward. They did it last week against
(07:08):
g w S and he kicks one goal three probably
should have had three goals to be honest here he
missed some gettable shots. So I feel like he's a
bit of a ace in the pack. I just sort
of bring him out when you need to.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
So he would never get out marked either.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
That's the thing that wing. He's so versatile.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Yeah, and then why can't they win the flag?
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Well the midfield Really like if the midfield replicates what
they just did, was going to get best on it
every game. It's all good, he said last week. And
I said, he's going to get tagged this week. Surely
he gets tagged. And he's going up against Mullen, you're
coming up against.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
You'd assume he would get So they tried to tag
him in the first quarter. Very I think was on
him early.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
It was very But I feel like it's just as
a Hawks fan, if I'm putting on my fan like
watching vibe whatever that means, Like, do I have confidence
in the midfield to do it again for two more weeks?
That's that's where I'm at.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
That's where there ain't on the ground, like Josh Ward
may not ever play that good again.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Oh I hope you're wrong.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
Yeah, but again it was the likes of for Adelaide.
It was that midfield depth that just didn't try up
at the end of the day. We talked about wet
when he was all over. I was it coming for
basically majority of the game yea, and paid to see
because in defense when Weddle pushed forward it was a
bit of a vulnerability. So unfortunately now to Adelaide, this
season does.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Come to an end, very abrupt end.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
The first team since nineteen eighty three were the first
Miner Premiers to be since nineteen eighty three to be
knocked out in straight sets.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
That's current finals.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
It wasn't good reading and look, does that obviously changes
your opinion of Matthew Nicks being Coach of the Year.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
I don't think he can be coaching that.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
You can't be coach of the year because I think
I think in other sports, I think I mentioned this
on the previous show, they just do regular season. So
if it was regular season, yes, but if you have
to can in the finals, he's not the ten.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
He had to win final. For me to be going
from fifteenth to first is fantastic. Yeah, I don't think
he should get it because he didn't win the final.
If he wins a final, I'd give it. I'd honestly
give it to him. Doesn't need to win the and
they looked horrible.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
But we'll touch on that in a second. Yeah, it
might as well not have been involved. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
it might.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
Josh Warrel who was one that can hold his head high,
but not many in the Adelaide team who can along
with the desk. But Josh Warry should have been all Australian.
Josh should have been all Australian Warrel. Yes, he had
thirty three disposals at eighty percent, twelve intercepts, three score involvements.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
He was my call for Bog and if I had
laid one and got over Loall, he probably would have
Maybe he could have got it.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
There was a long way off thirty three disposals though,
like he's an intercept defender. I feel like it's like,
oh yeah, he played great.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
It came down there a lot.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
If you're on Adelaie, like you don't want Matt you
know what I mean, because you'd rather get Dawson have
thirty three? Yes, yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
And you have a couple of players who don't have
some great stat lines you want to call out, Yeah,
one specifically a M B.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
Neil bowlan.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Obviously he's played in six consecutive finals losses, so I
don't care what his form is. If he had twenty
five and two goals in round twenty four, you don't
pick him for the finals.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
You just don't pick.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
You don't pick him because he just loses. He's a loser,
that's what he is.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
Six finals and the North Melbourne fan is calling Alex.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
He said he's a loser.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
He's won a floorer. How many finals losses? If I
had in the row zero there you go zero? Yeah, zero,
and then you don't get picked for them in the
best twenty two.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
That's all right, I just did this. This shows he plays.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
Indoor footy, by the way, yeah, exactly much of it
the real.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
But Adelaide they're the first team in vfl AFL history
as well to play two plus finals and not win
a single quarter. Now, all those Adelaide fans, they were
selling out Adelaide Oval two matches in a row. Obviously
they were very rowdy and they didn't even get there
to see their team win one quarter this final series
and they had two. But the footy lads is hopeless.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
Honestly, they were athetic.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
That is really bad.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
We've got to touch on that. We've got to touch
on it. They were pathetic and joke of a footy club.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
Absolutely absolutely, I'm to say this, but I know I
know what pathetic is, trust me, and that was pathetic
Adelaide in the final series, and that the Adelaide fans
will let us know in the comments as well. No,
I agree that they were a joke for the two
games and they just lost all confidence since with what
happened late in the season with.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
I like that.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Honestly, they should have lost one more. And you know,
some of some of the.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Efforts, like text with Loki, he was he's one of
the most clutch players and he's blazing away or he's
missing set shots that he normally would have kicked. He
kicked against Hawthorne in round twenty one. Yeah, it's late
in the season to see them over the line. But
Riley O'Brien, that man cannot hold a footy.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
He should not have a kicking license.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
That's what I just had to put it, should have
a kicking He literally kicked one off his shin and
almost came off his knee.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
I reckon the man has a PhD and like some
science crap.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Honestly, that's where he started time we're in the Premier League.
Has a has a doctorate in dribbling, in dribbling, so
we need to we need to do that.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
I don't know how he did a he did a
whole thesis about to Yeah, not soccer dribbling. Yeah, there
we go. Now he's going to do well. That was
one of the needs to improve it.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
But like another one who said, a great year, fantastic season, Martine, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
But my god, did Ben McCoy play that game, because honestly,
that was shocking. I don't know what's happened there. I
think it was Jack Conston's just got some nouse experience,
like children really need to do what he needs to do,
because it was just confidence from everywhere else on the
ground and they had everyone around and as.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Well like he was. He cost him with the like
exiting defensive fifty multiple times.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
I don't know what Matthew Nix has told them, Maybe
just to play more dangerous, go through the corridor that
they're buying off kicks that they couldn't chew an even
simple twenty meter kicks, Like there's more danger in that
than just bomb bombing it down the lawn. And that's
what I just don't get and they were very very
poor that cross.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Yeah, maybe let us know in the comments Adlai fair
because I think when we were talking them up towards
the end of the season, they're like, oh, we're still
not that good and they were a bit worried about
the finals and they've they've some of the Adlaie fans
have proved us right.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
Sorry wrong. You have the crowd there to see them overlawn.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
That crowd is such a huge factor and you did
not give them a single reason to get up and
about no, no, exactly right.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
I love love Sicily though, yeah, Sicily, so we want
to talk about that.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
Obviously Carrow Carrow during the week wasn't happy with swearing,
and then he just pulls out yeah, two swears right
at the start of his speech after the game.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
Don't do it, don't do.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
We think it was a bit planned and a bit cringe.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
It was a bit cringe. I was like McCray the
week before, Yeah, it was.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
It was a bit funny, though. I love that you
love it. And then obviously what did jeez, that's a
b if anyone was going to win and.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
Get over the line against Geelong next week out of
the Hawthorne and adelete.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
I would pick Hawthorne.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
I agree, So they get the ticket and that is
probably the best outcome in terms of a neutral spectacle
on the preliminary new form. Yeah, we're obviously neutrals, and
I'm very excited for a Gelong the classic rivelry against
Gelong and Hawthorne.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
You know what all I want, I just want Jeff
Kenneth to shut up this week tweet after the game
he is talking about read it. I just don't want
to see the name. Isn't that that's gone the kenn
of curse. Anyway, if he's buddy arking up, then.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
How do you fancy your early chances?
Speaker 2 (14:40):
Ahang Tang win.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
Early Crow, I'll be tipp and Geong of course you
will be all right. That's the end of that game.
What a game that was.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
That's going to do Saturday night at the game of
the Gavintine the semi final, the other semi final, Brisbane
against gold Chast Brisbane at fourteen goals sixteen or one
hundred points, gold Coast six goals eleven forty seven. The
Big brother stood up and said, you're rough with the
head of our goals.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
You're gonna get a brother. No, he's bigger. Yeah, the
trumpet is not trumpeting at last.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
There this is the ruthless Brisbane that we love to see.
What an emphatic performance. Look, it was quite even to start.
Sun's actually started, you know, really well. I thought they
were up for the fight early on. King was soaring
at two goals. Early he was seeing Jack Riop piss off.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
And you did talk about bringing the board ground against
harrisind and he did do that exactly at the start
of the game.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Which was it was.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
It was impressive and I'll give him, I'll give him
a shout out for that. And you know, Took was
buzzing around. You got Anderson and Rowl explosive. Anderson's goal
was sublime.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
Yeah, it was like a classic Anderson goal.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
But as the game went on, Brisbane just kept getting
better and better and more and more dominant. It's like
they remembered how good they are. Yeah, they go through phases.
It's like like when they lose a game, it's like, oh,
maybe I.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
Actually think it was the buzz, the buzz, the buzz,
the ki Loman buzz. Oh we're going to that buzz
now have we can't talk about but it was great.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
It was I thought it was Brandon Starsvich on multiple occasions,
I was like, what start doing?
Speaker 4 (16:22):
On the forward he called himself David Beckham, But David
Beckham looks a lot better than.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Bulls or pro No buzzs, no buzz. He looked terrible.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
Apparently it was an accident, very similar to Alcohoraz and
the because if you're on his story, the story on
seven A, it was an accident, but I'm not sure
it wasn't actually a bit like it looked like he
was at home.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
He posted a photo of him look at home with all.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
The haird It really didn't suit him because his long
hair was like give more stripe was about it a
little bit.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
There was real there. What the rumor was in like
what we heard from Channel seven was that he had
a trim went shocking. He swore there and then he
just cut the rest of it off. Interesting but at
the start of the season he said he'd shave it
off if Brisbane won the flag. That means they're going
(17:11):
to win the flag. Maybe he was they needed, Maybe
he's a time traveler, maybe he knows only tipping Brisbane wo'.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
He kicked a few goals as well. He kicks th
the hair celebration, so that helped his aura even though
he wasn't that good.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
But let's get back on track, because Marcus has jumped
all over the place there, let's talk about the midfield battle. Yes,
because Will Ashcroft I feel like he's the biggest talking
point out of this. He was superb big game player.
When do we start calling him Normy Ashcroft or norm
Ashcraft Normy He's a superstar. Twenty eight and two, eight clearances,
eleven score involvements, lifts for the big finals, McCluggage, thirty
(17:51):
three disposals, ten clear and down the back. I think
we touched on in the previous show. The Gold Coast
don't tag tag, they don't have a tager.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
They don't just like we're do you say two? So
just get too just to rue with him two?
Speaker 2 (18:03):
I don't think I think you want two.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
He only had two clearances for the game two Miller.
Speaker 4 (18:07):
I'm pretty sure he touches, though I don't care if
I don't care if he gets twenty eight touches.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
It needs more effort needs there needs to be more
out of it.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
I think you'd probably get more out of two k
Miller getting fifteen and tagging human pluggage than you would
him getting two clearances in twenty.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
I like that point. I like that right, fair, fair,
But they just don't do it coast. I haven't done
it all this Yeah, the Truck and Dunkley eighteen tackles,
that's insane.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
Most tackles ever in a final with eighteen, he passed
Jimmy Bartel with sixteen, So that's a that's insane. I
think I'll touch on the lock later. I probably should
have bumped up the tackles a bit, so I need
to hop off the couch and start tackling you.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
Oh yeah, not again.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
I want to do that again. But you want to
talk about how Brisbane played.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
Liam Well I mentioned before.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
I feel like when they're at their best, that's played
with confidence and they don't give a crap what the
other the opposition are doing. Like there were some really
risky kicks, like fifty to fifty kicks inside, but because
they were like, oh we're Brisbane, we're the.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
Best Gabba, we're the best team in the world.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
Who at the Gabba, they were just going to the
middle and they got so many goals from those really
risky kicks and when Brisbane are at their best, they're
not bumming it down the line. They're not like even
Charlie Cameron who didn't have a goal set up a few.
He had fourteen disposed, so a lot better than to
disposer of last week. So he was even taking a
few more risks and just playing with confidence and that
gives me a lot more like if Brisbane only just
got over the line in this one and they weren't
(19:22):
playing that unselfish through the middle footy, then it would
have been a bit worried.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
But they were awesome.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Well, to further your point, you have all Australians Zach Bailey. Yes,
he was excellent with three goals. He's probably one of
those that goes to that daring fashion, loves a bit
of pace on the game. And Rainer's goal was so good,
like shrugging the Mac off, like great the Mac Mac,
the big Mac shrugged him off with these kicked it
from he kicked it from people's first it's far away
(19:49):
or bleep, yes I love it, oh bleep. I want
to end this songe A couple of questions. Sure on
the Suns, they couldn't continue that dream run. They were
in the pink kit. They were fired up early on
Marcus you are it was all about them. How do
we rate their season? And who actually you've I want
to throw to you to this, throw to you, Marcus
(20:11):
on this, I've cursed g WS. You've now cursed the Suns.
So firstly, how do you rate the Sun's season? And
who are you cursing?
Speaker 4 (20:18):
Now?
Speaker 3 (20:20):
I'm cursing Hawthorne. So so so you think they're going
to win so just purely.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Hasn't happened yet.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
But on Gold Coast season, I think it was an
absolute positive season. They got to form US footy for
the first time. Not only did they get there, they
also won one as well, wait from home, in great
circumstances away from home. I think we know a lot
more about Gold Coast. We can be a lot more
confident about Gold Coast in future seasons. When it comes
to making the top eight.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
Look, they blew.
Speaker 4 (20:50):
They blew the golden opportunity of finish in the top
four and looking back on it, they probably would have
wanted that and relished it.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
That's their next improvement step, isn't it really capital on that?
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Like winning games that they should have won. We're obviously
talking about Marvel, but it didn't really matter at the
end of the day.
Speaker 4 (21:07):
But it was the big one that overlook on there
was like they can have a couple of excuses, and
they did try to pull out a couple of excuses
from that game, but in all seriousness, like you, you
shouldn't need that. And I think they recruited really well
in the off season and they're just going to get
better and better and better.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
And as long as they can keep.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
Its saying I have a few academy players.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
Yeah, correct, they got a few next gen academy picks
looking to go very early in the draft. So they're
going to be great as long as they can hold
onto the talent they've got, Neil, they're gonna be said.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
And on Brisbane or Brodie on this stats guy, Sure,
I think you've got an interesting thought.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
Well, yeah, what's your question? Didn't about it was a
big four?
Speaker 2 (21:49):
That was a big four. I was winding up to it. Ever,
the last we've got four teams left, we do all
of these teams are playing their best football. Is Brisbane
the best out of that?
Speaker 3 (22:02):
Well, I think for Brisbane to play their best football,
you need luck. Your Neil in their side.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
So I'm going to say Geelong at their best are
the best team in the competition.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
We're just forgetting about Collingwood as well.
Speaker 4 (22:13):
Well. I think I still think i'd rather Geelong over
just from I know it's recently Buias in the finals,
but at their best, I'm taking Geelong.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
I think you're taking Brisbane.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
I'm taking Geelong just based off the qualifying.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
I think because if Geelong played their best, that means
Jess is playing at his best.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
And if Jess is playing at.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
His best is kicking five goals and their midfield's firing,
their back line is still well structured. If Sam de
Cone is playing on his best, I think that's a
big it's a big tick for Geelong as well.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
Yeah, they've got a prelim final curse to.
Speaker 4 (22:41):
You know, yes, yes, the Chriscott prillim final curse. But
I still think, yeah, they're the best team.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
Yeah. It's it is interesting, isn't it. I feel like
I feel like we're going to say this every year,
but these four sides are very very even.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
Yeah, I think this is the most even.
Speaker 2 (22:57):
If I say that every year, I don't reckon we
said that last year. Maybe not maybe not, but it
is very even, and I think it's going to come
down to moments. It's not going to come down to
like the later team. It's down to moments.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
That's how the latter was decided. Look how close everyone
was from basically first to ninth. Yeah, just a couple
of weeks, lads. Do you know what the AX means?
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Mate? Of course? And in fact, oh, let Marcus explain.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
Don't throw me under the bust LEO. To be honest,
I have no clue.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
What a surprise. It's actually the Australian Securities Exchange. Ah.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
Well, I'll speak for Marcus on that one and say
I'm pretty clueless with that stuff.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
Well, lucky for you.
Speaker 4 (23:33):
Stockhead is a free website which gives you punting stock
advice through the AX.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
Where can we check them out? Check them out vice
stockhead dot com dot you.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
All right, that's the both the semifinals that are wrapped
and done and dusted there as we've just touched on
a little bit. But this is their finals bracket check.
Obviously the Hawks, they meet the Cat at the g
for a classic rivalry. Leo is already nervous for that one.
It's going to be a packtail. I'm actually not nervous.
I'm excited.
Speaker 3 (23:56):
Oh there we go. That's what I like to hear you.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
No, we're not gonna win. It doesn't matter the fact
that we've made a prelim. I'm just so happy. And
if we make it, Granny, I'll be buzzing and I'll
be I'll be so sad.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
He's already. Let's get the other one, Brisbane versus Collingwood.
I want to match up. This is obviously a Grand
Final rematch from a few years ago. This is these
two matchups.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
If we went into the start of the final series
and said what could be the best prelim matchups, I
would have said these four teams and these two matchups.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
These are going to be so good these prilims. Even
if it's not a close game, it's just the atmosphere.
It's both at the both of the g both of
like your big build up storylines everywhere. This is going
to be awesome.
Speaker 4 (24:40):
And I'm happy to see Brisbane in the prelium. No like,
no offense to the Gold Coast. But ninety five thousand
Collingwood fans would have been very.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
Yeah, that is very I should have done the Collingwood
chant when they kicked the first point of the game that.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
Would have been wild. All right, tipping results, how do
we go here, lads? I think we went fifty percent.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
One one from two, Marcus.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
How do you go market? Two from two? No, I
went to It was big on Gold Coast and Adelaide.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
To be fair, we all did Adelaide and uh Leo
the Actually there was a few Hawks fans in the
comments getting into you and not being a real Hawks fan.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
They can get into me engagement.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
It is good engagement, but Gold Coast and.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
Then they'll leave a comment. Yeah, there we go hate.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
Locker results and big Coal results will start with the
lock results.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Leo, it was your lock Anderson twenty plus got twenty six.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Bang Marcus, I said, I said, you can gets tagged.
Barry goes to new com and we said, at least
the half you I've got. We've got footage of you
saying that I'm not giving Yeah, that's fair.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
I wouldn't even give it to myself because he got
a B O G so and he but he did
start on New Can but he was terrible on him
and they took him off.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
I reckon, that's a bit stiff because every other time
they've played next week what you can gets tagged my mumin, Yeah,
it doesn't matter what we'll.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
Talk about in the previews show, all right.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
And then my one was Tunkley five plus tackles? Did
he oh he got?
Speaker 1 (25:59):
I should have probably probably up that, but it's a lock,
so we banked that one. So we're two of from
three in the locks Big Core results. Now, we had
a few close ones. We had one close one. I
thought we had a couple, but mine was Benki used
to kick three goals. He only had one goal in
fourteen disposed. I think fifteen disposes as well. So look
not good enough for me, Marcus, No, no, for me,
they're not good enough.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
From the Gold Coast midfield, that's who I'm blaming because
we's only had one clearance.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
Took Miller only that.
Speaker 4 (26:26):
Yeah, and for for Inoson and rail standards, I think
they had six and still solid, but the other guys
maybe seven, Yeah, losing so much. Leo was actually very
very close Sky.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
So I said two hundred and forty plus tackles across
the weekend, and we got thirty nine because we didn't
count that one. You tackled me on the show. So
I was on. It was two twenty six. The Hawks
Adelaide game really let me down. I actually thought that
would be a big Adelaide lay. Tackles Adelaide had more
than Hawthorne. Oh really, we hope so because I didn't
have much hands on the footy. True true, I got
(27:01):
sort of closer. But I like that big call.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
I might do it again, dear, why not?
Speaker 2 (27:05):
Why not? All right?
Speaker 3 (27:06):
Best on ground of the week. This one is a
Leo segment.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
He usually stresses about this one, but he was pretty
strong on these three players.
Speaker 2 (27:13):
I'm happy with it this week. I'm giving one vote
to Jack Gunstan, Daddy Gunston. He is to you five
goals six what is the sixteen disposal? Seven marks? He
gave the irishman a bath. He did Mark Keane more
like Mark kee not to defend guns fringe two votes
(27:36):
and Ashcroft Normy Ashcot, what a performance a big finals player.
He got it done.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
And what about his dad as well?
Speaker 2 (27:46):
In the in the crowd he was exuding or just
standing just watching like that's my son he was.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
They kept zooming in on him. He was on the
back row of the stadium just standing the whole game.
Are you jealous of them?
Speaker 2 (27:57):
It's like a It's like the Dekov situation. I reckon
if you don't care, and I would still be better
than him.
Speaker 3 (28:02):
He almost kicked a cracker from the band hit.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
The post about his dad was going, You're not as
good as Will. Will was elite and I just love
watching Will Ashcroft play football.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Just the hair flower, prince charming. They were calling him
last night as well.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
I think you were calling him that. Yeah, three votes
j Newcombe, It's got to be him. Four finals b
o G from four games. He set the tone in
at a volatile venue, crowd against him pretty much. A
lot of people tipped adelai, We tipped Adelaide and he
got it done in the first minute of the game.
(28:38):
He was the man, the superstar. I love you he's
probably he is. He is Hawthorne's most important player throughout
this folly. Yeah, if he if he gets best on
they win for sure. It's like he's excited.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
He's so rounded already five from four he could this
previous show is going to be all If he goes
six from six and you win the flag? Is this
the best run and he wins the last and he
went to knows meth that's like the best run ever,
Best Dusty, Best mid season Drafty by Jacob Edwards.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
You took before Giant, you can. I don't want to
talk about that.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
Let's get into the next segment, full credit, best team
of around.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
What could go wrong here?
Speaker 4 (29:17):
I'm cooking cereals here, let's go all right, here we go.
I'm including all four teams. So obviously team with one
vote gets Adelaide Football Club Club, an absolute rebel, shocking
one vote for the second week in a row.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
I believe they don't even deserve a vote out of.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
The because weird giving him vote four teams.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
And then obviously I don't want to just give two
votes that boring. Obviously the other loser, Gold Coast, they
get two votes. They weren't as bad were and they
were worse technically.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
No, but there's no expectation on the exactly.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
There was no expectation coming away from home after a
big win against Freemantle, and look, I think they were
just happy to be there.
Speaker 2 (29:59):
More but true in the pink kit.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
In the pink kit, they did look for the fantastic
give a pink kit, so they get the two votes
three votes for me. Obviously four is the best normally three,
but three votes for me is the Hawthorne Football Club
Hawthorne Dogs. I don't care Brisbane get the four votes
(30:24):
because they had, everyone's would have been like there was
a lot of pressure at home.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
They missed. They missed.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
Obviously a lot of players out for the year, like
there's so many of first team players that aren't in
that side.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
That's a big and with yeah, we don't have Will
Dale or Zach Merritt. It's too soon, it really is.
But I'm being generally genuinely serious.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
Are you not baiting me?
Speaker 3 (30:52):
Brisbane get the four votes?
Speaker 2 (30:54):
All right?
Speaker 1 (30:54):
Let us know in the comments where you think about
the best on ground for the players and the best
of the round because these two are going to.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
Fight all first, Adelaide were pathetic, whereas Gold Coast they.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
Made Adelaide pathetic.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
I don't think you did. Okay, now he's baiting you,
that's for sure.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
