Speaker 1 (00:00):
Time for the AFL Today Week one Finals preview. Marcus,
what can they expect?

Speaker 2 (00:04):
I'm expecting big things from this week's finals Underdooks.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
Well, I'm just stressing about my Hawks against GWS.

Speaker 4 (00:10):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
There's going to be plenty of laughs, plenty of follow
We're going to preview all the games and of course
we'll have a look at the Garyears metabust Well and
welcome to AFL Today, brought to you by Stockhead. It's
the first of our final shows. I'm mcwaughlan. I'm still
here because stat's guy himself, Liam mckellian. I believe his

(00:32):
name is I I got it right. Only took me
what four shows? But that's all right. It doesn't matter
is what happens. You snooze, you lose, you go to Japan.
People forget your name. Liam. I'm sorry, Joiners always, Marcus
bizanoleom Morali. How are we boys?

Speaker 3 (00:46):
I'm feeling a lot of emotions right now. I'm nervous,
excited overall.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
Just pump for some finals football.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
And if you're watching, if you aren't subscribed, when you're watching,
what are you doing? Because we're so close to ten
k at nine point ninety four, so we want to
hit that by the end of the week, and I'm
sure we will.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Yeah. Great reminder, make sure if you're watching this on
YouTube that you're subscribing so you get all the notifications

we have four huge games of footy from Thursday through

(01:26):
to Saturday night. We are absolutely stacked, so we're going
to get into us. Marcus, why don't you let us
off and we'll go at Adiade. Collingwood is a little
bit in this now, there's a little bit of spie
in this one. It's Thursday night. It's at Adigade over
the Minor Premiers taking on the team that we're as
short as a price as you could have imagined six
weeks ago to be the Minor Premiers, and they recently

(01:47):
played in a pretty spiteful affairs, so this should be
a cracker.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
It should be. And what's better than talking about the
game before the Thursday is actually watching it and watching
it with us because we're going to be doing a
live stream watch along while we watch the game. You
can watch it with us. You can have the game on,
put that on a mute if you don't lock the
comments and listen to us talk would be good fun.
So joining us, ask some questions. We'll be in there,

(02:11):
so make sure you check us out Thursday nights on
the YouTube.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
There will be on YouTube get around.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
But there's also a big occasion for text Walker as well,
because three hundredth game and what a game to do
it in. But the question I want to ask you
boys is weird does he rank in terms of all
time crows. I've got him, He's definitely in the top
five because you've got Rashudo, McLeod, Modra, Eddie Batts, Eddie Betts.

(02:39):
I'd have him in the top five. I'll probably have
my boy.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
I've got McCloud number one and he's a clear one,
and I've got Rashudo was a clear too. They're my
top two. There's been a lot of.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Good footballers before him, were not there.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
No, No, that's just my top two. Mods is in
the discussion, Sean Ren's in the discussion, Mat Bigley, it
was incredibly good football. But there is also there were
some others that we or the back end, the Ada guys,
the OADA, A Brigade Sloan could be out there. Yeah,
I think the texts given his longevity, he was a
key forward. I think the text is in there. I

(03:12):
think it's it's tough, but I have it.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
I think i'd have to on the cusp for me
for that top five.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Yeah, I'd probably go McLeod Rashudo and then be looking
at madra Ren and him probably my five.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Yeah, either way, we'll be hoping to have a big
influence on Thursday night. But talk about the matchup though,
because that's where it's really interesting. Collingwood have won ten
of the last eleven, so they've had the Wood over Adelaide.
But Adelaide did win just a few weeks ago, like
Walley mentioned, which I thought was a massive victory just
for the mindset and the morale heading into this game.
They don't want to have that stigma of the recent

(03:46):
record going in eleven defeats in a row against Collingwood,
so that was an instant win, even if it was
only by a few points. But Georsh Warrell and Martine
were huge in that one. They were the top two
Adelaide disposal getters down back in that game because obviously
Collingwood had a huge, huge amount of the foot in
the inside fifties boys, they got snubbed to the All
Australian I think.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
That's one on one. Warrell snub should have been in
the team King happy and Kean was good like this
year it was good, but who when you look at
the numbers around the keys they had in who's your replacing?
And that's the only way I look at it.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Do you reckon that they both sort of sneakily have
a point to prove here that they want to maybe
go out and just really show the selectors.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
There is that.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
But also I mean it's a home final if you
need that to yeah, yeah, In the words of Damian Hardwick,
you know if you need to be inspired to play,
if you need motivation to play your first ever final
sort of thing. I think that there's a bit of that. Yeah.
Josh Warrel was he was very stiff, very stiff.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
I thought he was fantastic this year and all the
previous meetings between these two sides have been really really close.
In fact, all the US six have been decided by
ten points or less.

Speaker 4 (04:57):
So that's when you think about it.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
Great expect finals to be kicked off in the most
perfect fashion and absolute nail bider. But everyone's talking about
how big of an impact Isaac rankins absence for the
Crows will be. But I actually think it's Jeremy Howe's
absence for Collingwood, which which has the bigger factor in
this game for their respective sides. And we saw that

(05:20):
in the game where he did get Obviously Jeremy how
goet injured against Hawthorne, and he also missed the game
against la which was a big.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
He hasn't been playing full games.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
He hasn't been playing four games recently, and I think
that's a that's a big area of concern for Collingwood.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
It's that trick on effect, right, because if you're losing
a key defender, if Darcy Moore has to play as
a shutdown defender, it completely throws that defense at of balance.
That's not his role, that's not where he plays well.
He's not the all Australian lockdown defender. He's an all
Australian you knows, rebound defender, so he plays a different

(05:57):
role and it changes everything in there. I mean they're
obviously going to have to make changes, no doubt. We'll
talk about like Cox watch and what they're going to
do with him and what's happening he's going to be
he's going to be playing, and then what happens what
do they do how do they fill that back line
space and trying to enable more And we spoke about

(06:18):
on Footy Form Guide what Darcy Cameron does a great
job in coming back and dropping in that hole in
front of darcymore but the problem is then you're not
getting him for that next kick out. It helps that
out part of that structure, so it causes a lot
of problems. I think the how shout is a great shout.
I think that rankins is more of the X factor,
better player, all of that. I'm fine with all of that,

(06:41):
but structurally I think how is a bigure out. So
I tend to agree.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
With you, and we'll go to positive team news on
the front for either side. Max mclaney and Luky Pedler
fan favorite Luki Pedler don't think Pedler's going to get
a run mate possible returns, but Luke Pedler was in
good form towards the back end before he unfortunately got injured.
But yeah, Macaleney is that big improve it to the
side and again to Jamie Elliott and again that allows

(07:06):
the likes of Warrell and Miller just to float across
and actually use their pace instead of being men on man.
But Josh Rachelley did get ruled out by the Crows
for this qualifying finals.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
Right decision.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
I think it's the right decision. Yeah, you don't want
you're the double chance. There's no need to run back
and getting injured. And on the Collingwood front, they did
get a little bit of a scare for Jordan to
go because he ended that season, ended the home and
away season against Melbourne in style and you'd be hoping
you'd be fit and running for the finals. But he
did cop a scare at training us as being tackled.

(07:40):
But he should be fine to play.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
So are we.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Worried at all about the the There was a there
was a little bit of pardon Pard, There was a
bit of a whisper around Nick Decos. There was there
was a little bit in social media that are sort
of twelve to twenty row hours that maybe he didn't
look as good as he could at training. So I
know it's hard to buy into all of that. And
we've seen how many times have we heard day cross

(08:04):
is Ejurine.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
Then comes out and it's thirty opening around, wasn't it
we had the cramps or whatever?

Speaker 1 (08:08):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
So I feel like in any sport sometimes the best
players in the in the league are the worst trainers. Yeah,
there's a there's a theme. There's a theme around that,
so I would yeah, I wouldn't read too much into that.
But Eddie McGuire did stay on Footy classifyed I just
spoke about the Coxy change Wally that Damn Stale will
be dropped for Mason Cox and that's a big statement.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
So I just I think that you need all the
tools you can get to bob stop that back. I'm
all wait and say mix Stay Midstay has been cold. Yeah,
and so but.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
For someone who has balling out of favor in Cox
and the big statement to come back in.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
They're expecting a two thousand eighteen presum performance for sure.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
But now I want to look out for is that
the Crows big forwards. They they well, you said like
you don't need PREMI tall forwards. So the number of
Tall Awards to win your premierships. But this could be
an area of the game where where Collin because Colin
would have struggled against twoll forwards recently, so this could
be an area of the game where they do get
off the leash a little bit great. And I think

(09:13):
there's going to be a big watch on that Darcy Cameron,
Mason Cox versus Rolly O'Brien battle, because Cameron got on
top a few weeks ago. Roley O'Brien only had the
six disposals in that game where Adelaide did prevail, so
ideally didn't have the impact on the result. But if
they're getting first use from Cameron and he's dropping in
those holes.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
I would want I would want to be seeing Cameron
having eighty five percent of cbas. I would want him
in the middle around the ball. Mason Cox should be
played as a forward that can go into the ruck
and help. Yeah, exactly right, that's all we should be saying,
like Riley thild or Marby or Child that sort of thing.
I'm not even talking to Sam Darcy level. He should
be minimal time in the ruck because Darcy Cameron is

(09:53):
one of the best rucks in the comp and he
has O'Brien cavern. He just has him cabin. We've seen
it already. Yeah, that that would be a key there,
I know, and I've said it over and over and
over and over. One thing I go back to is
a go key. Forwards as important as they are prastructure

(10:14):
and as important than they are throughout the year, and
how much we pay for them, they're not They're often
like not seen around Grand finals and they don't win
the Norm Smith, Gary Ablets, Gamy one ever, small forwards,
medium sized forwards, mids going forward they all win them.
On top of that as structure as important as it is.
Melbourne won a flag with the Dune Ben Brown and

(10:36):
Tom McDonald and then Collingwood won with what Mason Cox
and Frampton essentially tagging Harris andres So I don't you
don't need them? Would you take him in? Of course
you would. Their buddy bringing Philps not going to be
one of them. He's going to be on the top
two key forwards in the comp for the next ten years.
Darky Fogged is an incredible number two. And then he
got text walker that if they don't put attention into

(10:59):
like he is going to get off the chain and
kick goals. So they are set up really, really well.
The only thing this week is there is no Rank
and there is no Rashali and Ben Keyes is a
mid forward. He's a big, smaller medium forward, so they
it's just how they go without that genuine small forward
at the feet that can break a game open.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
I think fan favorite Lukie Peddler bringing.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
That you need that you need that in final. I
think it's going to be a cracker.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
So what do you sorry, Leham will be disappointed in
you say.

Speaker 5 (11:31):
I know.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
We have talked about people who have been out of form,
but we're talking about someone who I think can sort
of rite this game open for Collingwood because during final
time he is a big finals player and that's Jack Crisp. Yes,
and he was excellent when these sides may only a
few weeks ago. Twenty three disposals, thirteen tackles and a goal,
which I think is do you know what you know?
I love goals from midfield is nothing. That's what wins

(11:56):
your premierships, tough conditions to and I think he has
the threat to break the game open again. But Adelaide
a greater Adelaide Oval this season, they're twelve to one,
with the only loss of Adelaide Oval being in gathering
against Geelong. So On saying that if the Crows do
go on and win this game, that will mean Isaac
Rankin won't feature for the rest of.

Speaker 4 (12:17):
The fam extend your Europe trip, but stand it, you'd
want to do.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
It the short way.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
I I don't think that's it. And it's also there's
no side show then going on like who knows what's
going to You just want to move on from that
cloud sucking you go. This is what we've got to do.
This is what we've got to deliver. We've got two
weeks to get it right and go from there. Where
are you guys, Landing Give me a prediction.

Speaker 4 (12:40):
I'm on Collingwood. I think two points. I just think
Adelaide it's a lot of their guys.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
First final, Collingwood experience side, oldest list in the comp.

Speaker 4 (12:49):
I think experience gets it done.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
They'll get a good early lead, come push them late
and Pies will hold on like they do.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
I think this is a game where I think it's
almost going to be decided in the first quarter of
Collinwood can make the crowd really really quiet. But I
just think that that crowd is such a huge factor.
So I'm going to go the krom by a few goals.
But Wally, what are you looking this one?

Speaker 1 (13:12):
So I actually the game is it's very I think
it's almost toss of the coin. The crowd and the
ground dimensions that it all just lends to anivates so
loud and it's so bad and they bring their team
back into it. I've seen it firsthand and it's frustratingly
good from them. Okay, I actually like one thing I

(13:32):
want to do here is Footy Form Guy, which I
mentioned earlier, which is one of our other shows within
the Sports Today Network that I host with AFL expert
Corey Harris Harrow. It's good you remember it, Yeah, I
remember his name. That's important. We had a look at
this game and the area that we really like, and
we're actually saying it's our best avenue. It's our best

(13:55):
bet for the entire round is actually the under one
hundred and sixty and a half points. The last five
matchups between these two have gone one fifteen, one forty six,
one fifty two, one sixty two, one seventeen. More importantly
than that, we saw what they were dealing with last
last match. Yes, I know the conditions weren't ideal, but
we're talking about finals footy, which you can usually take

(14:18):
on a on a large on a large sample size
about a couple of goals less on average. We just
don't see a world in which either of these teams
are going to give a huge amount. So one hundred
and sixty feels like eighty points a piece. It feels
like a in a low feels right, it feels it
feels right to have a go. So we're going to

(14:39):
be under one hundred and sixty and a half and
then it's tossed to the coin. You can play one
of those. You could play something around either team under
fifteen or something like that. But I genuinely think a
low scoring game is what I'm tipping in this.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
I believe that is at least two sides are the
best defensive teams in the competition as well.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
That's the other that's the other thing out of it,
especially just absolute lock. They're fantastic. All right, Let's get
onto Friday. The good times keep rolling. On Friday night,
we have Geelong taking on Brisbane at the mcg well
question without notice, here. We hear a lot of complaining
every year. But let's be honest. If you had the
option to play all your games at the MCG where

(15:17):
the Grand Final was going to be played in front
of one hundred thousand and more fans could get in,
or playing your home finals down at the category, which
would you actually choose? Do you think or which do
you think they? No, no, you're let's let's pretend you're
involved with the club and you pay for them. Which
one do you think is actually better for your finals campaign?
Because I have a theory that if if it push

(15:39):
came to shove and they had to choose, they would
actually choose the McJob.

Speaker 4 (15:42):
Yeah if the grand finals, now I think you got
a pick.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
I choose the category for the qualifying and then hopefully
get the win there and then play the prelimum.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
They played. They tried it once. It didn't work.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
Well.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
I can't believe the debate if I went back through
the animals of time to try and find all of
these games they played there. Two thousand and thirteen was
the only one.

Speaker 4 (16:05):
It was the only time they lost a free man.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
Yeah, some very good pressure that that. But my point
is this is where you want to be playing. This
is the big stage of finals. Gelong a better set
than any team going into finals with injury. With the
run in, they can play all their games in Melbourne.
If they win this one, they will be playing all
their games. They can go deep like. It sets up
brilliantly for them. So we need to hear both sides

(16:30):
kick us off, mate, Well.

Speaker 4 (16:32):
It's the replay of last year's prelium this one.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
What a game that one was when the Lions came
back in that sort of second half they won by
ten points? Is that cam Rain a goal that the
stadium just looked to be rocking where you put them
up by about twelve points with a minute left and
it was awesome scenes.

Speaker 4 (16:48):
One of the games of the year.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
It was the series of comebacks, wasn't it for the Lions?

Speaker 3 (16:52):
They really clutched up, didn't they. And it just feels
like the winner of this one's in prime position. And
I think we'll be saying on the Sunday Show that
the winner of this is the flag favorite.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
Will the Do you think the loser is the most
likely to come back the other way?

Speaker 4 (17:05):
Yep?

Speaker 2 (17:06):
And the loser of this game plays either free mental
or Glocos the winner.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
At their home grow should be very happy to.

Speaker 4 (17:14):
Have no arguments.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Yeah, and then and then, depending on what happens the
other way, you're either getting Collingwood at the G or
you're getting adivated home and I think they look both
would looking go they're winnable. Yeah, absolutely, this could be
a Grand Final preview. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (17:31):
And the Lines are underdogs in this one.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
They've won eighty percent of games as underdogs this season,
so they have.

Speaker 4 (17:37):
A pretty good record there.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
They've won nine of twelve games away this season as well,
so that also on top. There was a Jordan North Melbourne.
They will get Neil and buryback, which is massive. And
the Cats as well have the healthiest list in the game,
only one injury and that's Conway, who doesn't even play.
I want to look at the midfield matchups in this
I find this so fascinating. You've got Mullen, Atkins and

(18:01):
O'Connor for Geelong who at different stages this year have
played that tagging role. Marcus, I want you to play Cupid.
I want you to play a bit of match makeup.
Do you send Mullen too? Who do you send Atkins to?
And who do you send O'Connor to.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
Well, I'm currently single, so there's no good terms of
matchmaking there. I don't know why you asking me focus
on yourself, No, I probably do do it for obviously
Lockie Neil is coming back because you've got the luxury
of all those players. You have so many taggers that
can do a role. So and there's so many players
in that Brisbane midfield as well, but Lockie Neil has
to be one. But I think the first one on

(18:37):
the list that you'd go to go tag is probably
human Cloagage because he's got his footy under his belt.
He can hit you on the school board as well
as having twenty five and thirty and he can he
can escape it as well. With we mentioned in the
final round of the home and away season against Hawthorn
Brisbane that is that Hawthorne should have tagged mclogagh and
they missed the trick by not doing so. Yep, And

(18:57):
I think I think Geelong and Scott my just be
a little bit smarter to go and put someone on him.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
Definitely, Neil and him always find a way to be
productive even if they get tagged. But Neil Neil will
break that tag and.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
They got they got so many players, very Cony as well,
Dunkley as well. Yeah, with Ashcroft, but I think yeah,
possibly possibly down back as a forward sort of negating role.
You could possibly put Mullen on Zorko.

Speaker 4 (19:22):
Okay, so we've got Mullin on Zorka, that's our first pairing.
Who's on Neil?

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Who's on Neil?

Speaker 1 (19:26):
You can put camera, who's on Bailey? It's insane.

Speaker 2 (19:32):
Yeah, they have just so many match can you tag
all of them?

Speaker 4 (19:36):
You can? Can you tag everyone one on one? Tag
throughout the game? Bring it back?

Speaker 1 (19:40):
Just one one is going to be This will be
because you Chris Scott's an incredible coach and he has
put on master class after master class. This is going
to be a tactical dream to watch. It's going to beautiful.

Speaker 6 (19:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (19:54):
Yeah, and I think all three of those cats taggers.
They have a massive role to play and actually stifling.
How scary that Brisbane midfield is.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
It's so good.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
But not only that, Like if they can actually quall
Neil and McCluggage and Rayner and these guys, then you've
you're freeing up bas and Holmes to do their own thing.
Because Brisbane conversely they've got Dunkley who can play that
run with what.

Speaker 1 (20:14):
Le who you're sending him to.

Speaker 4 (20:16):
I don't think either.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
I think Dunky in open space will get run to
the ground a little bit with bas and Holmes's running capacity.

Speaker 4 (20:25):
I think you just back Dunkley in in the stopage happy.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
I reckon in finals foot you'd be happy to that.
Baslink could go yeah, and just you know, if he
damages us, he damages this. But i'd I'd be putting
time into homes through.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
Back to Basilinka at the Gabba for the Dogs when
he ice in the veins, big moments, you can get
it done.

Speaker 4 (20:44):
You can get it done.

Speaker 3 (20:45):
So maybe they're a bit especially against the lines. I
want to move to the forward and defensive matchups now.
So look, my take is Andrews will go to Shannon
Neil just two bigger bodies. So we've got Gardner or
Lester on Jeremy Cameron a bit more mobile. Don't mind
that match up for for Jess if he can get
up the ground a bit. I think Neil has a
massive role here, though He's got to actually occupy Andrews,

(21:08):
keep him away from the dangerous space, stop his intercepting
ability and actually like getting out in front of the
space that Cameron wants to use.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
So this is almost like a Frampton role in the
Grand Final.

Speaker 4 (21:19):
I would say Neil's a better player.

Speaker 1 (21:20):
Oh no, I'm not saying nap, And that's the role
you wanted to play, You're almost wanting to be. Let's
just draw Harris Andrews as far away from Jeremy Cameron
as possible.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
We just lead to opposite pockets, pretty much, lead to
opposite Yeah, get out of each other's way. And then
if you look at the other end of the ground,
it was Logan Morris last time these guys played. He
kicked five goals down at the cattery and the lines
ball movement was very it was very easy in that game.

Speaker 4 (21:46):
They got through the corridor really quickly.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
They were cleaned, so he was able to get out
the back a lot and he was catching Henry and
Stewart out quite often.

Speaker 4 (21:55):
If I had to look back at the goals he
was kicking.

Speaker 3 (21:58):
So do do you stick with that matchup or do
you look at someone like a Deaconing who can be
a bit more defensively minded and have Henry and Stewart
come off a bit or is it just the pressure
up the field.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
What do we think He's put young kid on young kid,
you put on Sullivan. Although it's an exciting matchup if that,
because I think they're both great, it has to be
because early they're the ones that can match with with
Morris hair like Henry's great in the air, and Stewart
I think he just needs to be that floating sort
of So I really like O'Sullivan verus Morris was.

Speaker 4 (22:32):
To do it in a big final that was done
this matchups, I know the other way.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
You've got to all get this though. If you've got
faith in the kid and you pick him for a final,
he has to be able to play on anyone. That's
the whole thing. And I don't disagree that. I mind that.
I can see a word in which Harris Andrews goes
to Jetsa. At some point they just go, let's just
put the best defender in the competition on him, or
one of the best to him and Taylor, let's just
put him on him because yeah, because if he gets off,

(23:01):
if he gets off the chain, you need to make
that move very very quick.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
Yeah, And I think that's an interesting one to watch
because if they do make that move, then all of
a sudden you've got Shannon Neil who he can out
body Gardner and Leicester with with these I.

Speaker 1 (23:13):
Don't think anyone's expecting them to absolutely shut them down.
I think that the way they win this game is
just winning the ball through the midfield, and as efficient
as Jeong might be on their inside fifties on those entries,
it's reducing those downs so they're getting so much more
of the ball in their own half, and I think
that I think that that's their key to winning. Yeah,

(23:34):
I don't think you're going to kind of completely be
able to stop Cameron and Nil and then the other
players at their feet. They think I play like Sean
mana made. He tell me he's not built for front.

Speaker 4 (23:44):
Not wrong.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
So it's going to be it's going to be a
very very very interesting matchup.

Speaker 3 (23:49):
Absolutely, and I just want to end with a couple
of big questions, one for either side. On Geelong, now,
we mentioned on the Round twenty four raps show that
they're run into finals could have been a bit light,
a bit easy, and obviously they can't do anything to
help that. They've got to beat the teams in front
of them.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
Bailey Smith said it himself.

Speaker 4 (24:06):
Bailey Smith said it.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
I think even Chris Scott said at some stage, but
do we think they're going into a final series that
they are primed for this? Are they primed for the
pressure that's going to hit them or are they going
to be a little bit, just a little bit off
the pace.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
I think they'll be falling. You think along with that
side they have so much experience in finals footy. Chris
Scott has so much experience in finals footy. There's no
way they don't get up for this game.

Speaker 4 (24:29):
That's good.

Speaker 1 (24:29):
Yeah, I think they'll get up for it. I think
I think they'll be fine. I just think Brisbane's the
best team in it. Yep, and Brisbane get up to
another Brisbane find another level when it.

Speaker 4 (24:40):
Mattered they need to.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
They honestly, they must have just been there at the
Gabbre or traveling against Melbourne or traveling down to Tazzy
to play North Melbourne and just going we really have
to what do we do? Just can we just start finals? Please?
Can we get to September? You can just tell they've
been up for so many years that they need that challenge.

(25:01):
And I will say this, the team they're taking this
year looks like a better team.

Speaker 4 (25:05):
Than last year, and they still have many players on
the injury list.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
Yeah, and plenty of players next season become the.

Speaker 4 (25:13):
Improvement in.

Speaker 1 (25:16):
Mccaggage in Bailey rain just the absolute versatility of Rainer
Morris is essentially another Joe but may not be is
like inefficient, yeah or yeah, I'm trying to think of
the right word there, We'll go with it. Efficiently. Yeah,

(25:37):
it's just unpredictable. And so you look at all of it,
and Harris Andrews has lost nothing, and lest it's improved
and all those things.

Speaker 4 (25:46):
So it's very other seven teams are just not even. No,
it's not that.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
I just think if this is a game where if
I had to it's again, it's a flip at the corner,
big one. I would rather be on Brisbane than Gelong.
But I that's what I asked about coming back the
other way. I think they're going to meet in the
Grand four. Yeah, I think these are our Grand finalists.

Speaker 4 (26:04):
Yeah. And just one quick one on Brisbane.

Speaker 3 (26:06):
They've kicked eleven twenty three against the Hawks, twelve fourteen
against the Dogs, thirteen eighteen against the Giants. I just
think if they lose this and they are inaccurate. I
think it's just one we raised in the rap show
and be like, look, this is the only thing that's
going to stop them from the flag is themselves.

Speaker 1 (26:23):
But if they won those games they lost to GWS,
they won the other two, right, so they're still in
terms of that. I know they have been inaccurate, but
it hasn't been an issue yet.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
No, No, I just and if we look back to
last season, they kicked eleven twenty one in the last
round and then in finals they did enough to even
that up. There were a lot of fifteen goals, fourteen
behind and they came from behind, got three weeks in
a row to get it done. So I just I
want to just have a little bit of a watch
and if the inaccuracy could maybe cost them, I need

(26:57):
your tips.

Speaker 4 (26:58):
I'm going lines by a goal. This will be the
best goal I.

Speaker 2 (27:00):
Think in my player part. And I think Geelong's just
now some faunals. Obviously Brisbane has them now as well,
but I think just for entertainment's sake, I'm going to
go Geelong by two points.

Speaker 4 (27:09):
Don't mind it? What do you like all in this one?

Speaker 1 (27:12):
I almost want to tip a draw here, because I
just think they're both going about it.

Speaker 4 (27:15):
All the time.

Speaker 1 (27:16):
I will say, I will say lines in the coastest
of clost ones, but John will meet them again in
the ground.

Speaker 4 (27:21):
From Yeah, I actually agree with that. Yeah, lads, do
you know what the asex means?

Speaker 1 (27:26):
Mate? Of course?

Speaker 4 (27:26):
And in fact I'll let Marcus explain.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
I throw me under the bustle yo. To be honest,
I have no clue.

Speaker 5 (27:32):
What a surprise. It's actually the Australian Securities Exchanged. Ah.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
Well, I'll speak for Marcus on that one and say
I'm pretty clueless with that stuff.

Speaker 2 (27:40):
Well, lucky for you.

Speaker 5 (27:41):
Stockhead is a free website which gives you punting stock
advice through the ax. Where can we check them out?
Check them out vice stockhead dot com dot you Right.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
Saturday eight is Oh, we'll go to Marcus on this
one because this is this is relatively stressful Hawthorne taking
on GWS. Obviously, this is a really interesting one because
both teams ceilings have been really, really strong this year,
but both have had those little troughs which have been atrocious.

(28:11):
And I'd say they're good to bad gapes about as
big as any team in the in the finals. I
think this year the first time ever apart from Adelaide,
I think everyone else is good to bad gapes. It's
actually pretty big, Marcus, let's run through this, mate.

Speaker 6 (28:29):
I'll take care of this one to provide some with
the two has been going on about the last three months,
the two Hawthorn fans sitting next to me.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
But again, this is another one which has provided some
great recent contests, with the last five meetings all being
decided by a couple of kicks all less. Yeah, and
they're typically both teams that love to hit the scoreboard heavily.
They're just you know, let's try and outscore the opposition
rather than restrict them. And I want to start with
some team chat for this one because it is pretty

(29:04):
tasty and what looks to be a great Saturday arbo clash,
and it's the Giants will have a host of changes
coming into the side. Hogan, Stringer and Kelly all but
confirmed to come back in the side. So that's a
rating common medallist Stringer who is an absolute round form
and found some form and Kelly is a great experience

(29:24):
midfielder along with as well who is back from concussion protocols.
But it looks like Buckley for your sake, Leo and Walley,
Buckley and Daniels are unlikely to come back in the
side get through training.

Speaker 1 (29:40):
What's happening because Daniels on Tuesday was listed as off
completely off the injury had nearly thirty disposals, right, So
is it official that he is now?

Speaker 2 (29:51):
It's not official, but it is unlikely. It's not a
good look to.

Speaker 4 (29:56):
Miss, like not get through with that Buckley.

Speaker 1 (29:59):
Buckley still lists as a test is the and again
the the the initial reports were should be playing or
pushing the pay as he had another setback?

Speaker 2 (30:10):
Has he or we'll do It's just whether you do
you risk it or one off game? Do you risk
him for the rest of the final series if you
don't get through this one, it's.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
An elimination final. I'll play with probably playing against four toolls,
you one thousand percent paying like you just you don't
risk when you have a second chance. It's an elimination game.
You just have to because what if Okay, yeah, if
he goes down, you have a sub for that reason,
and it's not ideal, But I don't know. I think
he's too good to not risk. And if if you're

(30:39):
unless it's a lot worse than we're being told. Agree,
So they could have they're going to have four before
we're confirmed, but up to six, which is a core
of the team. That's an insane amount.

Speaker 4 (30:52):
Of good thing or a bad thing, That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
Is it a gift or a curse with a few
of those boys and not playing, not playing a lot
of footy in a while, just rolling them back in
and the sharpness going to be there is their match
fitness gonna have.

Speaker 1 (31:03):
Unfortunately, you don't have a choice like this.

Speaker 3 (31:05):
You have to have to do it, obviously, but it
is a good point because you look at it on
the surf as a Hawks man, I'm going crap, like
we've got to deal with now Hogan and stringing these guys.

Speaker 1 (31:15):
But then they might Kelly and Canelio are not young anymore.
Then coming back in first up. You can look at
that two ways and their experience that we find, or
you can go, we'll hang on.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
Are they really really are they going to be up
to the pace of the legs, the pace in the
finals encounter with some injuries, but there's also some some
injury news and maybe a returning face in defense for
the Hawks with Josh Wirtle. That would be huge in
because he played limited minutes in the VFL quarter quarter
filling finals sorry defeat last weekend against Southport. So would you,

(31:47):
as Hawthorne fans, chuck him straight in because versatility. He
could play on he could play he could play on,
he could play on Daniels, he could play on anyone
he loves.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
He goes, no, no, you playing if you're going to
pay me pain and then you use the sub the
other way I think they I think they will play
him is you got to throw a cab up. We've
just got to We've got to throw something at this.
They've got to look at this and go, okay, let's
have a crack here. The only the only thing is
who makes way, Because I don't think it should be Scrimshaw,

(32:17):
who's the like forla Like I'm saying that could could
have been one of the tools laws who didn't get
through and looked a little proper even though we've had
another week and hasn't really come back as strong as
we like, and there is such a bigger piece for
him in the future. I would think that Mitchell's would
be the one that makes way. So that being said,

(32:38):
they need another midfielder and you've got to play camp
McKenzie or Harry Morrison's got to come back.

Speaker 2 (32:41):
So would you go with Ashream you're gone with the
three tools, then Walley, would you go three or four
to Grinforla?

Speaker 4 (32:47):
I think three. I think Lewis has to make way.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
And you mentioned mackenzie or Morrison one of them. I'd
like to see Morrison if he's fit. I think he
was a test on the injury list. I'd like to
see Sam Butler come in.

Speaker 1 (32:58):
It couldn't changes what he offers.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
He's not like a household name or anything, but he's
a strong tackler and I reckon his role potentially across
half forward on a whitfield or an ash I think
that could be a sneaky good matchup.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
So US GW West. The area of the ground that
they're giving the ball up and allowing disposal and usage too,
is that half forward that comes up and spends time
up further up the ground. So with Jack Ginovan for.

Speaker 4 (33:26):
Example, or tell him.

Speaker 1 (33:28):
Dilamore is the one that I think if they don't
bring in McKenzie and Morrison, Dilamore his Cbas will be
right up and he'll spend more time in the midfield,
which will be great. So there's a lot of angles
to look at from the Hawthorne side there, and there's
a lot of uncertainty. The good thing for gw os
so you're saying, is it a blessing or a curse?
The whole thing is that they go, we know what
we're doing, we know which players we want, we know

(33:50):
what our twenty two or twenty three looks like. We
just need to get him in. So it's a little
bit different with going, oh, who do you draw up?

Speaker 4 (33:57):
What do you do?

Speaker 1 (33:58):
This is going to change the structure of what we
were playing. So this is going to be an absolute
humdinger of a game.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
Yeah, but if you think those Hawks more forwards are
going to limit the impact of Ash and Whitfield, then
that could be a game changer.

Speaker 4 (34:11):
Yeah. I think that.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
Honestly, the battle between the Hawks small forwards and the
Giants small defenders like Whitfield and Ash, I think that's
how this game will be decided.

Speaker 4 (34:19):
Who wins that battle in my opinion.

Speaker 3 (34:21):
Because the Hawks smalls, while they're obviously good in their
own right, they don't hold a lot of accountability to
those half backs, and like you mentioned Whitfield and Ash,
let that half forward go up because they can win
the ball back themselves. So whoever is more impactful in
that area I think will win the game. And that's
why I just reckon put my Hawks buyers hat on.
I want Sam Butler and I want him to go

(34:41):
to Whitfield and put some pressure on him and show
some accountability.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
They're scoring from their defensive fifty is like so far
above AFL average wells down, yeah, exactly, and when it
drops down, they just do not win anywhere near the
same amount of games. They're scoring at seven to way
goals like a game, which is which is huge from

(35:07):
rebounding of defensive fifty, which is like two or three
goals above the average and thing. So if they're doing
that and they're doing over that, that makes it really
really hard to beat them. So if we can restrict that,
they're just not going to win at the same raid.

Speaker 4 (35:19):
So I reckon they'll be saying the exact same thing that.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
Well fast matter than we are. And that's the thing.
But whatever we do, whatever we sessions, whatever we see
Sam Mitchell do, I just like to think will be
the right decision because he knows better than anyone.

Speaker 2 (35:33):
And you did mention that two or three goals swing
above the average for g WS, and that has I
did mention before that has been the margin between these
two sides in previous meetings. But we'll move on to
GBS now. And look, they went out in straight sets
in the previous final series in damning circumstances because they
lost when they choked against both of last year's Grand

(35:55):
finalists in in Sydney and Brisbane.

Speaker 4 (35:57):
So does that mean you know, maybe if they do
lose Hawthorne Hues Green fint I love to think so well.

Speaker 1 (36:02):
The thing that GWS for me is we're all waiting
and for it just to all cleeph click in one
finals campaign. They've had the least. I think they've got
the coach, they have the star power, they're good on
every line, one of the best key forwards, best key
defender in the camp, and elite midfield match winners on
both ends of the ground, like an X factor like Stringer.

(36:24):
But you've also got Taby Green, Let's not forget about
Tavid Green. All of these things, but they just seem
to find one better. Whether it's getting pumped in the
nine and Grand Final where they fell in, or losing
to the Dogs in sixteen. They're not all there, but
there's players that have still been through all of this
for the last ten years. The colin we lost by
a point, losing a seven goal lead to the to

(36:46):
the Lions, all of these things that just just keep
they find a way to get knocked out. If they
can put it all together, this this genuinely could be
the year. I think the winner of this game can
make a deep finals run. I genuinely do.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
Jimmy Wes, you look at it. They've got the probably
the best spine in the competition with Taylor, Tom Green,
Jesse Hogan. That's a pretty good, you know, back mid
forward sort of spine that they got there. But and
history does suggest that playing at home between these two sides,
history between these two sides, so just to playing at
home will give them a great chance at winning this game.
Fourteen of the seventeen meetings between these two sides in

(37:23):
history have been won by the home side, So that's
only two away wins and one draw in there's the
other three results and the Hawks record at Enjie Stadium
is you boys, will know it's O and eight. The
Hawks haven't won at Energy Stadium, so.

Speaker 4 (37:41):
I said you're saying, would you well, yeah, you can
be due.

Speaker 2 (37:45):
Or does the trend continue? It's like rule do you
keep going? If it's going red everyone every time?

Speaker 4 (37:50):
Do you change?

Speaker 1 (37:51):
It is a weird one with these two because they've
played a lot of footy at They're played in Canberra,
they're played in Tazzy, they're playing around a couple of year.
Yeah yeah, gather around. There's there's been a little bit
of it's a little bit murky. The other thing is
that we're going back a fair way. So have they
even played at this ground under Sam Mitchell? I don't
know if they have. So this is the thing is

(38:13):
that we're talking about a completely different true team here.
So I would suggest that all of that, all of
that's good, But the bigger thing for me is just
going can Hawthorne stop that defensive rebound run? And how
do you negate a midfield battle that you're probably going
to lose Because the bottom line is GWS's midfield is

(38:38):
stronger than Hawthorne's midfield. I think seven other finals teams
have a stronger midfield. We agree with that okay, it
is what it is. In other words, every other but
the back on the forward six and your back six
are very very strong. So it's like, how do you
try and be super efficient in your forward fifty and
score as many opportunity as you get and then hold

(39:00):
the ball in as much as you can, and how
do you try and restrict defensively and go we know
we're going to lose the clearances. We know we're going
to lose the ball through the midfield, so we're going
to bolster both ends and they can pay ping pong
through the middle, and that's fine, but when you get
it in our defensive fifty, we're going to lock it down.
And when you put it when we get it into

(39:20):
our forward fifty, then we're going to lock it down
even more and you're not going to able to get
out until we score. And it's being able to do that,
whereas GWS will go, okay, what we need to do
is make sure we take advantage of forward this forard
line of hawthorns that doesn't usually restrict the rebound, and
we're using our ball really well through that midfield and
we're scoring from stoppage as much as possible. So it's

(39:44):
going to be a fascinating battle. But I guess the
only thing left to do is asked the question, gentlemen,
who wins?

Speaker 4 (39:53):
I'm going Hawthorne. I don't like it, Hawthorne by three.

Speaker 2 (39:57):
I'm going to go the Giants by four goals.

Speaker 4 (40:00):
You love g w A.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
I love the Hawks. The Hawks in the state record
hasn't been convincing for me this season. The only win
was against Sydney in opening round. Was the last in
the state winn if you exclude Tasmania, but obviously you
probably count. You count lose their home games if they
win in the state. The Orange wallsuit Should we do it?
You're going to be all on ws.

Speaker 1 (40:22):
I'll need a week to get over the loss and
then we'll talk about it. But the thing is that
I do. I do like the Giants. My my tip
here is that the the winner is going to make
a run.

Speaker 2 (40:32):
And put your neck on the line.

Speaker 4 (40:33):
Who is that.

Speaker 2 (40:36):
He's got it done?

Speaker 1 (40:43):
A Fremantle v. Gold Coast.

Speaker 4 (40:45):
There we go.

Speaker 1 (40:47):
This for mine is probably the one game that I
found the easiest to find a winner winning. But to
side with who I think will win, because I don't
know if they will yet I've just stadium Saturday night.
Frio couldn't have been more impressive against Western Wollodogs. I've
said a few times this week that and last week
that second quarter and the pressure, they may have been

(41:07):
the best quarter of footy we've seen paid this year.
They're incredible against the Dogs. They did that on the road.
They get a home crowd which would be really really
intimidating and confronting, which is fantastic. It will be loud
and tell you what, They're going to be very, very
hard to beat.

Speaker 4 (41:25):
I think this is going to be a fun game,
to be honest.

Speaker 3 (41:27):
You've got Gold Coast first final, they've done it, they've
made it, and you've got the fresh young flag mantle
crew who are new editions as well, they missed out
last year.

Speaker 4 (41:37):
I think the first question off the top, will the
pressure get to the Suns in this one? Will they
be a little bit a little bit?

Speaker 1 (41:43):
I don't get.

Speaker 4 (41:43):
Nervous, but start to get a little bit shaky.

Speaker 2 (41:46):
As Dimmer says, you're in the wrong industry if you
if you're not up for the organization's first finals campaign
in history. So they'll be fine. I think they'll be
up for them.

Speaker 3 (41:54):
Do you reckon they'll be in at a quarter of time, Yes,
of course, Okay, I reckon Frio jump them, and I
reckon it could be a four five goal leader at
y time.

Speaker 1 (42:02):
Well, I think if Freo jump them, there is no
coming back. This will be Freo. All right, Let's talk
a couple of things. Let me ask you about the
midfield battle here. So you have you're going to have
a midfield battle of Sarong Brayshaw Young Bolton, who is
a proven finals performer in a match where there is
not a lot of finals experience.

Speaker 2 (42:22):
He was in the first Afgans the Dogs.

Speaker 1 (42:24):
He is a great finals performer. That is going to
be up against one of the best midfields in the
competition also, which is Anderson raw Miller, who does have
a some finals experience, but he's a very experienced and
you can play a hump free through there and things
like that, even though they've been doing a lot less
of that. So which midfield are you taking?

Speaker 2 (42:45):
Iak golf course midfield?

Speaker 4 (42:47):
I'm taking Frio's midfield. It is a great battle. I think.
I think they're very similar midfields when you look at it.

Speaker 3 (42:54):
They got You've got Sarong and brace all the defensive
mids win the ball. That's Ralen Anderson. You've got Bolton
who can play the forward role, come in for X factor.

Speaker 4 (43:02):
That's Humphrey. And then you got Young and Tuk in there, who.

Speaker 3 (43:05):
Both had a bit of class, a bit of you know,
they can hit the scoreboard twenty twenty five disposals.

Speaker 2 (43:11):
They're very similar midfields. I think it's going to be
great to watch. They are very similar midfields. But I
just I just like the goals from Gold Coast this
season took me ale. We've talked about it all year,
lifted in that area of the game. The thing is
with Anderson, Anderson and Brow versus Brasia and Sarong, I
feel like it's more likely if either pair are going

(43:32):
to have, you know, thirty thirty or forty and two goals,
it'll be the Goal Coast pair rather than the freemantal.
I think they've got more goals in them.

Speaker 4 (43:41):
Okay, this is the thing.

Speaker 1 (43:45):
I think Anderson and Row are a better duo than
Sarong and Brayshaw. And the reason I say that is
I think that I'm taking Anderson out of the four
of them. I'm taking Anderson out of anyone in these
two teams. I really really rate him so highly. Raw
is like top ten in the league for clearances and tackles.
He's a beast on both sides of the goals he's had.

(44:08):
He's added a level of creativity and just some variety
to his game that didn't exist. It used to look
a lot harder for him get disposed. He had that
that real every disposal looks like a lot of work.
That is not the case anymore.

Speaker 2 (44:23):
Is in our top ten player in the competition, he's.

Speaker 1 (44:25):
Very very close. If he isn't, he's very very close.
Nor Anison is. He's definitely in top ten. So I
think that the swing for me, though, is if you
have Haygen, Young and Bolton both firing, you have two
players that can go forward and kick multiple goals or
run through the midfield all day, so they can just alternate.

(44:48):
So you go, we've got a forward, mid forward, mid
forward with sixty forty probably sixty Young forty you can
just run through and then the others will have eighty
five percent cbas and I have short rests, so you
can operate those four together through that midfield, but also
forward of the ball. What you have is you have
a dangerous goalkicker that could kick two or three goals

(45:09):
in a final in your forward line. For me, that's
where I swing to freoh but I mate, it's much
of a much, so it's going to be cracking up.
The other good thing is that the Fremantle defenders and
we're talking about multiple AUS trained defenders in this team
against that exciting Gold Coast forward line. That sets up
as a great matchup too. And then where you have

(45:30):
the Frio and the Gold Coast back lines. In terms
of the key matchups, there's been a little bit of
inconsistency with those like mac Andrew can put in a
great game and then maybe go missing in another. It's
the same with the with Tracy and with Amiss and that,
so I think that that's really exciting. And then both
players have both teams have players that can rebound the

(45:52):
ball and get run through that back half. So it
just sets up absolutely beautiful. It's going to be a
great You.

Speaker 3 (46:00):
Mentioned the Freer back line and they did a great
job against Darcy and Norton against the Dogs in that
last round. But it is a very different looking forward
line for the Suns. They obviously have King and Reid,
and do you think that this pairy can do a
bit of damage Marcus in finals? Ben King and Ethan
Reid first final.

Speaker 2 (46:17):
There's been a lot talked about it. I definitely have
the faith in Ben King. Obviously, Ethan reads a little
bit inexperienced, so you take the foot off the pedal
a little bit. But Alex Pierce is a player who
didn't play when these sides previously met this season.

Speaker 4 (46:30):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (46:31):
And I think King ended up with one goal, Ethan
refinished with two. I think Walter played and got to
Walter played and got too. So look, I just think
that that King Pierce matchup is going to be so
it's going to be.

Speaker 4 (46:41):
Good to watch.

Speaker 3 (46:42):
But it is more than mid sized guys. For Gold Coast,
you got long, we made the All Australian squad. Farah
has been good since he's coming nine goals in six games.
They pose a big scoring threat.

Speaker 1 (46:53):
So Ainsworth can be dangerous down there, exactly. Yeah, there
is a lot of other options.

Speaker 3 (46:58):
It's sort of those unknown guys a freo like Heath Chapman,
Bailey Bamfield that will have to step up and play
really important roles to quell those guys and then I've
got some big questions here. You also touched on the
fair forwards, Walley. You've got Tracy, Amos, Voss. They all
kick three against the dogs out of SUPERB. Which player

(47:18):
here out of those three do we think and tear
finals apart? I've got my answer.

Speaker 1 (47:25):
Yeah, I've got I've got these at three varying levels.
One one I would have the one I think can
tear finals apart consistently and just really have a good campaign.
He's Tracy. I think the X factory is Voss and
he can have moments, and I think Amos is the
worry three.

Speaker 4 (47:43):
I complete what.

Speaker 2 (47:45):
I'm going to go with the boss. Obviously, I do
think Tracy is the better playoff obviously, but Voss he
just looks like he's built for those moments and if
you give him an opportunity or sniff to create one
of those moments, he's going he's going to take it
nine out of two times, which we have seen already.

Speaker 1 (48:01):
Social brings as well is important, it's really really and.

Speaker 2 (48:05):
Just when you think he's knocked down, you got beaten
the peg, he would kick a goal a few minutes later,
like you did Agast Port Adelaide and he's got the
moments against Freemantle which you only have to look back
two weeks ago. He's built for this in.

Speaker 4 (48:17):
The moment's player, isn't he?

Speaker 1 (48:18):
Now?

Speaker 4 (48:18):
Marcus?

Speaker 3 (48:19):
Are the Sons any chance in this one? Because I
feel like I've been talking up Freo a bit. It
is a free hit for the Suns in their first final.

Speaker 4 (48:26):
It is can they get it done? Marcus?

Speaker 2 (48:29):
Is it?

Speaker 4 (48:30):
The thing?

Speaker 5 (48:31):
Is?

Speaker 2 (48:31):
Is it a free hit? I think it is because
they blew a top four opportunity.

Speaker 1 (48:34):
Yeah, I tell you you want to build something. I
think it is a free hit because they're going to
be back next year, and then the next year and
then the next year. You look, this team is stacked
with kids, min they have a lot of time. And
how many times we see a team reach the summit
just a little bit too early and then have to

(48:55):
come back and go back. I'm not saying it always happens.
You want to win them when you get there. Are
they really going to win a Grand Final on the
MCG against John or Bridsband. No, No, they're not so
getting if they win a final grade if they don't,
they don't, they'll be back next year.

Speaker 2 (49:09):
Look, I just think I think they got more than
a great chance and more than they'd suggest, because I
just really like the tactical and coaching matchup between Dimmer
and long Mururor, and I think Dimmer wins that.

Speaker 1 (49:23):
Yeah, I agree, I do agree, But I'm telling you
in horse turn, which is if if you had have
swapped game Boss out for an apprentice on Macabdeve and
macaby Dee, probably still would have won.

Speaker 2 (49:36):
Yeah, yeah, true, But look, I just I just think
that I ultimately that their coaching battle was going to
just win that game.

Speaker 1 (49:43):
Game Boss or too long Ere but I know there
is a gap, but at home there is so much
that long Will is. He's no scrap's you can definitely coach.

Speaker 2 (49:52):
But I just think that's probably why I think can
win this one, and that's why I'm tipping them ten
points is because of Dimmer.

Speaker 4 (49:59):
I don't mind that. I think Freo get this done.
I'm going to say about three goals. Three goals I'll
jump on.

Speaker 1 (50:05):
All right, very good, there you go. I'm with you
on Freo. I think Freo there. I think that they're
getting a ten and a half point start on the line.
I think they'll cover that comfortably and be winning by
four goals. Okay, let's go lock of the week, big
calls Garier's medalist. We want to go through Leo. What
is your lock of the week.

Speaker 4 (50:25):
I'm going so wrong twenty plus.

Speaker 3 (50:26):
I just think he's an absolute lock to do that
at home against that Sun's midfielder.

Speaker 4 (50:31):
Does not tag so wrong all over it.

Speaker 2 (50:34):
Yeah, I like the look of another ball magnet. Luck
if we field twenty plus, slap locals. It was just
born with a foot in his hands when he came
outside the womb. So or Mary and Whitfield.

Speaker 4 (50:45):
That actually is that a name?

Speaker 6 (50:47):
It is a name.

Speaker 2 (50:47):
I actually actually googled his mother's name just to get there.

Speaker 4 (50:49):
They thought they were having twins, but it was just
him holding a foot.

Speaker 1 (50:52):
Who was to you go?

Speaker 2 (50:55):
My lock?

Speaker 1 (50:55):
As I said, just referencing game, was the opening round
that Collingwood out of a game to go scoring and
going und one hundred and sixty points?

Speaker 3 (51:04):
Cool, I'm going Jamie Elliot kicks four goals. I know
they get mclaney back, Warrel and Keen in great form,
but I just think they might be a bit spooked
that Adelaid backline in their first final for a lot
of those guys, so Jamie Elliott brings experience and I
think Pie are going to win. He's going to be
the main part of that.

Speaker 2 (51:20):
You know where you're going in Adelaide Collingwood one. So
I'm going to go a little bit different. I'm going
to go JV. Wes Hawthorne here and I'm going to
go Tom Green will have minimum fourteen clearances.

Speaker 4 (51:29):
That's that?

Speaker 3 (51:30):
Is that a bit cool because he is a bit cool?
But I love that against that Hawk's midfield. Don't mind
that at all.

Speaker 1 (51:36):
There you go, All right, now Gary as metaphus, guys,
give me a Gary Airs metabus.

Speaker 3 (51:42):
I'm going mcluggage. I just said, look, well you mentioned
that when we're talking about whether he gets tagged. He
finds ways to be productive. Still, it's got a great engine.
He finds the football can hit the scoreboard. I think
he's got a few thirty goals, a thirty goal thirty
disposed of one goal game ahead of and and.

Speaker 2 (51:58):
Obviously if you if you don't playing along the home,
you don't know what the garriez Medal is. It's awarded
to the best Finals player, and I think that's going
to be Tom Green.

Speaker 1 (52:06):
I think if you're watching this show, I reckon, you
know it, and.

Speaker 2 (52:10):
I reckon it's going to be Tom Green he just he.

Speaker 1 (52:12):
Just watch out. I like both of them lives. My
mum tempted to have a play locking. Neil is the
one I like a game that Brisbane.

Speaker 2 (52:21):
His lack of footy heading into the finals.

Speaker 1 (52:23):
It's completely relevant. I genuinely think that won't matter at all.
Could have played a guy, he'd just be ready to go.
The other thing is that with this new interest in
worrying about human carggage, I think it opens him up
and probably is still their best. I will say this though,
Brisbane and Geelong is a great pace. Excuse me to
playing this because if they win, they're going to be

(52:45):
hosting a home pregim. Yeah. If they lose, they every
chance coming the other way around. So does all go there?
All right, gentlemen, sorry throwing the throat dead finish. All right,
that's us done. You've got this round's view preview, you've
got your tips for the Garriers medal. We've got big calls.
I surely Liam is back next week.

Speaker 4 (53:07):
He's back.

Speaker 2 (53:10):
There you go to get away from.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
