Speaker 1 (00:01):
Round three is done and does the North Melbourne look
absolutely amazing and maybe Jazz Gardner is the only person
that can stop herself. Welcome to AFLW today. I am
your host, Alex Donelly, joined as always by Jess Robinson. Jess,
are you concerned.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
I'm a little concerned, but fingers crossed for Jazz that.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Oh god, it's so tough.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
I think every fan North or AFLW fan would have
just watched that and just gone.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
It wasn't a great couple of minutes there, especially when
she hobbled off there but got to get over to
the corner. She's back from holiday, demanded to come on
the show first day back because Carlton got the job
done on Sunday night. It's social Gal Spence aka Olivia Spicer.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
I am back and I am so happy that game.
Oh I was jumping up and down. Can't believe the
bag is bet the grand finalist from last year. That's insane.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
It's great you left while the men's team were being
historically bad. You've come back and the goals have just
hit the ground two in one.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
So good. Love to see it.
Speaker 1 (00:55):

let's get into this Round three results. We had the
(01:19):
biggest win ever, which means for the first time ever
in afl W history, we had one hundred point margin.
We'd love to see it. Records being broken. Week on
week Port Adelaide has kicked their biggest score at the time.
It was the biggest score in afl W history. Lasted
about twenty three hours.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
The Ruso no hold my bart, the rust I have
all the records.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Funny North Melbourne last week kick their biggest score, which
was like eighty. I'd be like, eh, okay, okay, that's cute.
Here's our one hundred and fourteen just for that. And
Carlton got the upset over Brisbane and Jazzgana's injury news
press circle all around for everyone. Right now, let that
ankle be, Okay, I have a spare one, she can
have it totally fine. But let's get into the weekend's
game starting on f Darwin dream Time up at Darwin
(02:02):
or Richmond three ten twenty eight defeated by Essenon six
seven forty three Bombers. They're three in zip. How are
we feeling about the Bombers right now?
Speaker 3 (02:10):
The bomb is actually good, especially in Darwin. I don't
know I thought that Richmond. I think Richmond season is
what we're seeing is not how he expected it to go.
But yeah, I'm impressed with the young guns as well
as the Bombers. What do you guys think?
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Absolutely impressed.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
They got it done in a great fashion, Like I mean,
Richmond could have made a little bit of a closer game,
but Essenon coming away with three zero. They're having a
great having a great start to the season.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
And it's funny they're taking a team who's zero on
three next week in Geelong, but that's going to be
their toughest test so far. But we'll talk about this game.
So my first question, the main thing of this is
is how did nance go on? Where the long sleeve
all night lay twelve tackles tripled out of anyone in
her team. She was absolutely everywhere best on ground. She's
getting the three votes. Just an insane effort. But the
heat levels you could see late in the game, these
(02:57):
players were cook chucks.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, and that's probably where Richmond just fell
fell short a little towards the end because I mean
both teams you could just see the fatigue. I do
not envy them at all playing in that weather.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
I'm a sweaty man as it is. I do not
need to play.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Football and now way it'd be too hot for there,
especially in the long sleeves. Not for me.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
I did need shout Matti Prisparcus all night running up
and down in and under the midfield all night like
just an absolute unit of a football or. She was fantastic.
I do like how when Essen and get their running
carry game going their handball, it's so fun to watch.
You see where they kicked a goal like Georgia Clarks
snap leading from that just handball through the corridor. It
was absolutely under Okay, They've come into this season with
(03:38):
a proper game plan to take the game on and
run through the corridor, and I feel like some teams
are getting caught out. They don't know how to defend
when teams just get the running in waves going. And
I like how Alexander's found herself in the goal square
just all of a sudden, she's in the midfield. I'm
gonna go play forward. It's okay. She's taken two important
marks at the top of the square and consecutive weeks
(03:58):
she kicked two goals this week. Obviously had the match
winner against West Coast the week before. But we look
at them like, okay, like, how are we feeling about
just overall we look ahead three and zero in a
twelve game season, set you up for finals. Are you
feeling like you're confident about the Bombers playing finals this year?
Speaker 3 (04:15):
I think they are going to play finals. I mean
starting off the season so strongly. That's what's important in
the w like I'm looking at We'll touch on you
long later, but not winning a game yet, that's not good.
Like it's all about confidence in the dub And yeah,
I think the bomb is going to play finals and
we'll see how deep they can go. What do you reckon?
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Yes, that's pretty yeah, echoing the same thing. It's all
about how you start the season and they couldn't have
started it better. But also, yeah, the opposition, as you said,
the challenge will come next week against the Cats.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
So we'll look at the Richmond side of things as well.
They had a fifteen minute period at the end of
the third quarter started the fourth courtter they dominated. They
had sixteen inside fifties to four in that period. They
could only kick one goal from those entries. Essen and
from those four kicked a goal as well, So that
really just sort of summed up how their night went.
Obviously that inaccurate kicking for goal all night. There was
a moment in the last quarter which led to Alexander
(05:05):
kicking her goal. Brit Cox went for the body, went
for the bump, just did not impact the contest at
all and Banison just picked up the football chipped it
over to so for Alexander who kicked a goal. And
it's just like in that moment brit Cox needed to
go for the football. And it's not that it's cost
the game, but it's one of those tailing turning point
moments because Richmond still had a bit of momentum. And
(05:27):
it leads me to say this, Richmond have got too
many passengers. There are too many players on that football
team that are leaving it up to Monconti, Ellie Mackenzie
and Katie Brennan and go and get it done. They've
been abysmal in the first three weeks for the list
that they have. They are not a zero and three team,
but their season is over. I'm done with Richmond.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Yep, that's a big call, but yeah, I don't think
you're too far off with that one. We've said this
over the first couple of rounds. You've got to stop
leaving it to the stars like mont Conti and Katie Brennan,
but also just talking about leading the inside fifties. It
just shows the forward line.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Where is the forward line? And that was our concern
at the start of the year that their lack of
Fords is going to be worried. Like obviously you see
really hasn't sort of stepped up. Katie Brennan look like
she was injured on Thursday right as well, so Paige Scott.
They hit the scoreboard, had an impact against their old team.
But it's just sort of not a lot going there
for me. But you know what, Richmond, give Sierra Greaves
the keys. Just give her their keys. It's her midfield
(06:22):
and team. Now she looked great for a first gamer.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Why not give her the keys? You know, just try something,
get it done.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
If it doesn't work, it's not that big of a
deal when you're sitting where you are, so yeah, I
don't know, try something different.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Were soon now for the Tigs.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
Well, we've seen even in the AFL Men's program that
if a list is too top heavy. You mentioned to
me before, I'm a Culton fan. If you have your
top five players and you're relying on them for everything,
it's going to bleed and you're going to see the
gaps to come through. I think now they just need
to try new things, you know. I three, like, what
have they got to lose now?
Speaker 1 (06:54):
In fairness, there were a lot of players who weren't
playing on the weekend. I know beck Miller wasn't playing.
She was down here in Melbourne, as was Grace Seaking.
There's a fair few that were injured. But you're still
zero and three in a short season and you looked
at the start of the year you think, all right
that Sydney probably a fifty to fifty game, should beat
the Dogs, should beat Essendon. There oh two and one.
You know, at worse maybe one and two, but zero
(07:15):
three it's a long way back. It is a long
way back.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
I mean in saying that if a few of those
behinds went their way, it would have been a closer contest.
So I think just some of those it's the goal
kicking accuracy. If some of those results go differently, it's
a different story. But unfortunately that's just not how it's
been for Richmond.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Shout out of the bombers three and zip. Here we go,
not September but finals. Actually sorry, just in my mind,
September Final. It is September. They're flying in September. It's
the first Saturday Henson Park GWS two ten twenty two
defeated by Kawana the Adelaide Crow seven eleven fifty four.
I didn't think much of this game, to be honest.
(07:54):
I know Adelaide have got the job done again, but
GWS bad goalkicking is bad football. That's it, That is it, Alex.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
I think Adelaide would have wanted to win by more
against GWS, but you know what, they got the job
done and they're back to two to one, so they're
sitting pretty. They're a bit more comfortable in the season now,
so they wouldn't be complaining. But the Gws, I just
feel like they lot a good opportunity slip here. I mean,
the score line is still what thirty two points or something,
(08:23):
but they could have had a closer contest a contest
It took a while for them to click into gear though.
They didn't register a single disposal in their forward half
for the first six or so minute for the game,
so exactly you could kind of see where the game
was going ahead just from that, and of course the Crows.
It was a blistering weekend of wins and wild weather
(08:47):
across the south region of the country. So yeah, the
Crows maximized on kicking with the wind in that first
term and they were super productive. Danielle she had a
huge game game seventy five. She had a lovely snap goal,
had the luck of the bounce on her side, which
we love to see. Playing in the midfield can go forward,
(09:10):
just a big strength.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
That's their strength for the Crows and we we'll see
a lot of a lot of the differences for them
this year. They have midfielders who can rest forward an
impact on the scoreboard. A lot of teams really don't
have that exactly.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
That's just such a pro for them. Yeah. Caitlyn Gould
really strong for the Crows as well on the forward line,
so they had some dominance. Elanor Brown felt for her
Giants defender. She had her work cut out for her
with Caitlyn. I would love to just touch on some
positives for the Gws. So because he got it, take
something away from it. Tarani Evans, she's just so great
(09:41):
in that forward line. She's got a good presence, she's
got a strong lead. Yeah, Unfortunately, the Giants just struggled
to get reward for effort.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
They were actually.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Well and truly within breach that the momentum was all
going their way at the start of the second half,
and they just couldn't get much return for effort. But
Georgia Garnett, she had a big goal and that dying
the dying seconds of the third term, which you know,
it didn't really close the gap much, but it just
gave them a little bit of spring in their step
going to the final term. Yeah, it looked like a
(10:12):
sign of improvement for me for the Giants because that
could have been a worse result. They did only manage
two goals. But if a few more of those points
went their way.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
They got close to Collingwood last week, so I.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Think, you know, small steps forward for them. Adelaide would
be happy with the result.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
But do we go one?
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Yeah, do we think the Crows think that they should
have won by more?
Speaker 1 (10:34):
In I think they're happy winning after how they started
against Gelong butt over the top line. They're just like,
let's just go get the doe. I think they feel
like I feel like they're building into the season, which
isn't the best thing to do in such a short
season because it could come on stuck, but it could
come off for them. But they're getting wins.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
They're getting the points on the ball. That's all that matters.
That's real.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
Yeah, let's get across to the other Saturday afternoon games.
I see a part down at my Rabin euro Ropes
and killed her four four twenty eight defeated by Walachij
Marara the West Coast Eagles six six forty two Sint Kilda. Mate,
what happened? What happened?
Speaker 3 (11:12):
I was gonna say, great job from the Eagles. Daisy
Pierce masterclass again. I'm just very impressed by her coaching
so far. In her second season at the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
Is it coaching or is it her going Hi, best
player in the competition? Ella Roberts, go do your thing. Yeah,
let's talk about Ella.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
Let's talk about I was going to start on the Saint,
but we'll talk about the winners. We'll talk about Ella
finished with two goals, twenty three disposals, nine marks, seven
tackles and three clearances to have a strong say in the.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Game another three.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
Yeah, what wasn't she doing?
Speaker 3 (11:42):
She was just great all across the park and yeah,
just really good to see what a turnaround that the
Eagles are having this year and just so much improvement
on the park all around. And they kicked the last
five goals of the game, which was a great way
to see.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Huge. They should be three is really like they should
have held on against their last week. I know that
I said Essenon deserved to win that game given how
the match flow went West Coast of three and know
they're feeling so much different about their season, but being
two and one, considering last year they hit the ground
running and won a couple of games early but then
absolutely flat lined. Light. I think it's more them coming
(12:17):
from behind shows the improvement that they've made in the
off season. Obviously, Daisy threw the Magnets around a little
bit too, but it's like, Okay, this team is building.
They might not be a finals team this year. Next
year they're definitely and we.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Spoke about that last week and their loss to the Bombers,
just them learning how to win, how to finish the game,
and as you mentioned them kicking the last five goals,
that's them certainly doing that. So I think big ticks the.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
West Coast on the Saints. Though jess Wardlaw not Jesse
Waldock still tall for the Saints in the game with
two goals, sixteen disposal, seven marks, having an early impact.
I thought she stood out for me, but the Saints.
The Saints should have won this game. Let's be real here.
If they want to get some points on the board,
that's what they need to do. But overall, I'm just
happy with the West Coast Eagles.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
It goes to show like and a few people that
just talking to or their just around footy, and it's like,
I'm not convinced about sin Kill. I tipped the Eagles,
very happy with my tip, but it's more they were
negative on the possessions inside fifties and everything gets Adelaide
found a way to win, got belted off the park
by Melbourne last week. Maybe this is just where sin
Kilda are at and West Coast are actually kind of
(13:21):
a better football site at the moment. And we looked
at sin Kilda sort of last year. They're in that
not bad enough to be bad, but not good enough
to be good that on a day they can beat
a team, but they can't. They haven't strung together a
game here. Maybe everything worked for them against the Crows
and we might struggle to see that again for the
rest of the year.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
And I think taking on a team like the West
Coast obviously coming off the Crows and then the d
Is they're pretty strong contenders and you would think this
is the match up where they, yeah, they get the
win and for them not to do it, and you
know they were in control for a lot of the.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
Game, in the game for seventy minutes, so yeah, they
should have been getting that w and yeah, coming off
such a bad loss last week, they need to cash
in Thatlex.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
SAIDs tell you why they lost. No Ferris wheel, bring
back the ferrest wheel, Bring back the fairest wheel, and
I will get down to my rabin. Need the ferrest
wheel back probably too indyair issue there could just roll away.
Let's get down to Gumba GMHBA Stadium. Geelong six nine
forty five defeated by the Sydney Swan seven eight to fifty.
(14:21):
My first porter call when watching the replay after I
got home from Geelong was I hate the camera they
have the VFL level.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
I noticed that as well, Alex.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
It just it doesn't look great, Like, come on, guys,
like it's not hard. Was it on the other side, No,
it wasn't on the other side.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
We see the fans this time?
Speaker 1 (14:37):
No, we didn't see the fans. They don't do that.
They only do that for night games. Because I asked.
I asked a very lovely lady who supports Geelong. She's
a seventy year member. I was like, oh, why don't
they change the camera so you can't do it during
the day games. And she was correct in the end,
because the sun might pop out and the camera will
be directly into the sun, which it came out in
the last quarter. So shout out to the old lady
(14:57):
that sat in front of me during the game. Out
of this, the Swans they go three and zero, massive
win for them, whereas the Cats go zero and three
and being there at the ground and then watching it
back one of the games of the year. Yes, absolutely,
it went to script like Geelong. They started fast, Sydney
took a while to get going and ran all over
the top of Geelong. And for Geelong, you have a look.
(15:18):
They were horrendous in the second half last week, last
quarter blowout against North This week they played three quarters.
Unfortunately their bad quarter was the second quarter. They let
the Swans kick four goals get in front of them
and the one sort of maintained that advantage for the
rest of the game. Like you look, and we'll talk
about Geelong first, Like Nina Morrison and Presparkus were the
two best players on the ground in the first twenty
minutes by so far, it wasn't funny. They had about
(15:40):
ninety percent possession in their half in the first ten minutes.
The Swans just could not get a kick and could
not get going. It was twenty to one, like it
was three two to one behind at quarter a time.
But then in the second quarter Scottie Gowan's got a
whisper in the year from Tom Harley at quarter time
outgoing CEO who was there and was just like mate,
like ship up, all ye out, this is my old home.
(16:01):
We need to show them who's boss here and this
Swan's got their run game going. Tany Kennedy kicked her
first goal over in AFL W Chloe and the Lloyd
passed one off the Darcy Malona that she could have
kicked and didn't Darcy Maloney celebrate. Oh, I think there
might be some anger towards Geelong there from young Darcy
given the celebration. Like Jaz Grierson kicked her first goal
(16:21):
in ten years, so we had some really lovely stories
out of that quarter alone. But I know I'm a
Swans fan, but could you tell that once Sydney got
their run game going, they just really cut through Geelong.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
Yeah, and I think this is exactly where Geelong is
lacking because they've seen them against the good opposition sides
over the last.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
Couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
They just can't bring it when the other team is
on a roll and they can't halt that momentum. So yeah,
they'll be really disappointed with this lost only five points. God,
they would have loved to get a win on the board.
But yeah, they've had a pretty tough draw so far. Yeah,
but to let Sydney come back and get that run
(17:02):
and get on top, that's where Geelong kind of are.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
I need to talk about Sophia Hurley. I don't think
she's ever played a better game. She's had twenty seven touches,
nine score involvement, six marks, five tackles and a goal,
but may have pulled out the goal assist of the
season with the spin and delivery to Cynthia Hamilton and
hopefully the spin is playing right now because this one's
like we need to find this. They went and found it.
They've even given us the slow Mae, which is great.
But I think for the Swans importantly Ali Morphett being
(17:28):
probably the best on ground other than Sophia Hurley, was important.
Two best game in two years, nine marks, twenty three touches,
six clearances, but she was taking the outlet mark where
the Swan's needed, which was amazing. And for Geelong. Got
to give Ash Maloney credit because she tried to drag
Gelong over the line. Three goals, twenty three touches, was
absolutely everywhere. Every time she's near the footy. I was
(17:50):
just a bit like, oh no, please stop her from
getting the football like she This team is a joy
to watch Geelong. They just need to get it going,
needs to click, and it's you look at the stats.
It's the efficiency for the Swans going inside fifty, which
was the difference. They add less inside fifties and won
the game. And I still thought the Swan's use inside
fifty was terrible. So it just goes to show that
the little margins there that are there for both teams
(18:12):
in a game like this. So do we think Geelong
can turn this around in the next month? They've got Essenon,
Richmond Port and Hawthorne.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
I think they can.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
I think they can win three of them.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
I think they can win three of them. They win,
they'd beat Essendon, maybe to beat the Hawks maybe then
we'll see how that goes. But with the list that
they have and the way they have been playing and
showing good sign especially in the midfield Georgia Pressbarkus amazing,
let's see if they can turn it around. What do
you guys think?
Speaker 2 (18:37):
I also just think we keep mentioning the same players
for Geelong who were standing up and fighting, so I
mean not as extreme as the Tigers, but some similarities
there where they probably just need a few of their We.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Didn't play, We didn't mention Chloe and Ma Loyal Laura
Gardner talking about the Swans.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
Did we exactly that? Yeah, I was just gonna say that.
So the depth from Sydney just to get the job
done on.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
Low Molay, early kicks, one.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
Goal salty, you passed them off.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
But do we think the Swans have also set themselves
up for a crack of the top four because their
next three games Collingwood, gw Wes and wall youl up
Fremantle very much so. I think they're six and o
going into the game against the Crows.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
Where they're going I agree, I think compared obviously last
year was an injury field season. Just to obviously turn
around and see these superstars coming back and setting the
pace and just the game plan already, I'm excited to
watch Swans and I'm not even a Swans fan, and
I really enjoyed watching the Pooties.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Swan's Crow's match is going to be just enough to
find myself to get my way to Amley.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Yes, yeah, it's not a good thing. Alberts and Oval Spence,
this is you yah, it's a Pulti Port Adelaide sixteen
twelve one hour waight kick their highest score ever kick,
the highest score equal highest score every nfl W history
at the time, defeating Gold Coast five ten forty back
to back weeks, the Suns have given up.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
A HUNDI well, I know that this was a probably
boring game if you look at the scoreboard, but I
think what we've seen from the actual Port Adelaide's side
is great and highest ever score that last at twenty
three hours. It was a great watch. But I want
to start on Gold Coast. Consecutive weeks have conceded two
of the six highest scores of all time. How are
we feeling about that? Because it's just they can't be
(20:20):
doing this.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
I mean, we'll talk about another team later, but yeah, well,
I said last week I was concerned about the Suns.
I there's a lot that needs to be fixed with
that list, with the way that it's going, as well
as recruitment. I just there's a lot of issues within
their team, and I don't know if they're set up
properly at the moment. I know they've got a lot
of academy kids coming through, so they will come good,
(20:43):
but they're just they're going to be bad.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
Yeah, they got a long way to go, but I
will touch on some positives for the sons. Of course,
Tailey Gregory's first AFLW gold which was a highlight of
the game. McLachlin and robotom led the disposals to twenty
eight and twenty four a piece with the main Daja
for maintaining what they could. And I love watching Roeboard
and play. She's a great effort. Of course, You're always
gonna love watching Robot.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
Of course I am you know, sister of James, But
I love watching Havana has Yeah, great the Unicorn. She's
an absolute machine. Like when she in two or three years,
when she's properly developed, used to like playing a couple
of seasons of footy. She's going to be next level,
Like I can't wait to see the development of her.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
I mean, is there a concern that some of these
players like Charlie Robottom and Havana like to stay at
the suns Well.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
I think Robottom stayed because she'll she signed a pretty
lofty extension recently. And Havana Harris, I think Gold Coast
born and bred. You looked. Have you seen that ten? Well,
it's real. She's definitely been on the Gold Coast all
of her life. Shout out to her Mama, follows us
to now amazing.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
Now the stars of show of the show of course
port Adolaide. Let's talk about Matilda and Gemma four goals apiece,
each with last names Gilt and Jemma houton. If you
don't know, get to know, Okay. For Matilda four goals,
twenty two disposals, eight marks and for Gemma four goals
as well, fifteen to bozals and five marks. I thought
the Power had really good movement and connection between the
midfielders and the forwards, which was really good to watch.
(22:08):
But I want to give a question to you guys. Yes,
the Power scored one hundred points. They did let in
forty to the Gold Coast. Is that a worry? Are
we worried about the ability for the Power to turn
their season around? Was this game just a blip of success?
Speaker 1 (22:21):
I want to see Matilda Scholtz do it again next week.
Everyone's lauding it for the fantastic performance as we should.
Great game, well done. She wasn't cited against North Melbourne
the week before, so she didn't have a good game
against the best team of the competition and she's cashed
in on a team who we think is going to
be bottom two, bottom three. Do it again next week
against West Coast and I'm chips in on Matilda Scholtz
(22:42):
and Port turning this around. Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
I mean, it was a game of just all attack.
Especially gold Coast can get forty points. It's clearly an
attacking game. So yeah, maga's and defensive questions, but yeah,
I'm not concerned about the score line, especially when they
clock over one hundred yeaheah.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
This game was over pretty early. It's more seeing how
they should ructure up next week against West Coast, because
you don't think Daisy is watching that with a hawk
eye and knowing what's going Excuse me with what's going
on and how to stop them as well, because around
the ground, I think West Coast can match them very easily.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Yeah, I don't know. I think I think West Coast
can take it to the power. That's my early tip.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
Perform or in Adelaide, Okay, check the socials for our
tips later in the week. Saturday night, WIT's an oval
the Western Bulldogs or one four ten defeated by Hawthorne
two two fourteen. My first question is how in the
bloody hell of Hawthorne at three and zip they've kicked
four goals, three goals and two goals and they are
three and zero. I don't get it. Jess.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Yeah, it's concerning for Hawthorne if they want to be
a genuine contender. Western Bulldogs are not a top side.
So this is the game where Hawthorne go, let's go,
let's cash in, let's produce a big score, and that
they didn't.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
So get a few question marks for the all wins
by single digits. And I suppose at the end of
the day Daniel Websity like, don't care, we're winning, which
I get three and zero. This was not a great
advertisement for AFLW. And we're going to see games like this,
Like we've just talked about high a score of a
game of the season with Sydney in Geelong. This was
(24:11):
not one that we're going to remember or talk about
long term. Yes, the Hawks have won, there wasn't a
goal kicked in the second half. And I don't want
to be negative about the game, and I love the game,
but this was a very bad game of football. And
it's not through like last year we had when we
had that really bad game with Western Bulldogs in Essendon
where it was you know, they were all a couple
(24:32):
of players a kick behind play and they played three
games in like nine days. This was just the night
was clear. It was a cold night at Wittenoval, but
both teams don't have a forward line and just sort
of the bollward land it had come out and go
back in. It Just it wasn't an enjoyable watch. And
that's about as far as I'm going to go with it.
Like I'll talk about the game, but I just wanted
(24:54):
to get that out of the way early.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
Yeah, and it wasn't even a case of scoring inaccuracy
either one because both teams haven't even clocked many It's
not a high score game at all, so there's not that.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
Scoring shots total for the game.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
Yeah, not great. I think the Hawks may have gotten
away with their smaller scores in the first couple of rounds,
but this is really expose them.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
Yeah, the Hawks, I know they're getting the points on
the board, but if we're going deeper into the season
and they do want to contend for finals, which is
a possibility, They're not going to do very well when
they come up against North, when they come up against
the Crows, how are we going? Yeah, how they're going
to do that with this.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
What I will give for Hawthorne is they are set
up brilliantly defensively. They have a great defensive structure in place.
Their forward lines. Just a bit of an issue on
McDonald's struggling a little bit at the moment. Obviously Greta
body out injured as well, and as she played on
the weekend. Sorry, Ailien Gilroy is out injured at the moment.
So it's some of their firepower not really all there
at the moment. I see at Teda Breed left in
(25:50):
the off season as well, Jazz Flemings injured sid There's
reasons as to why, but just it's not great. Like
we have a look at Hawthorne got their first scoring shot,
which was a goal when Jazz Smith ran through the
protected zone giving away fifty meter penalty in a game
that's decided by four points. It is an app I
know it's the second quarter, but it's an absolute killer.
And then you sort of look some of the injuries
(26:11):
in this game, like Nazara Allen's got a hammy issue
in Emma mcdonald'shurt her shoulder as well. So the Western
Bulldogs had their chance to win it in the first
quarter but could only kick that one goal. So they'll
be looking at that and just going, oh, that's that's
one that could have missed. And if the Dogs were
two and one, jeez, they'd be up and about yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
Where does this leave the Dogs? Where does this leave
Ellie Blackburn and the Dogs like she oh, what about.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
The tackle from Emily everest Honor to save the game?
Poor Ellie, It's just she she was like late in
the game, she was cooked because she'd been crushing in
all night. It was like the pressure, the pressure was
highlight There was over one hundred and sixty tackles late
in this game, which showed you the pressure level there.
Laying Greg brings the pressure all the time. But for
the Dogs kind of sort of where our losing to Hawthorne,
(26:54):
Like they're one and two. They're not as bad as
what we thought they were going to be last year.
They're better again. They're still probably a bottom six side,
but they're competitive in there. They're going to be tough
to beat whoever plays them.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
As long as it been competitive and we're seeing improvement,
which we're seeing that from a lot of teams this year.
I think you can't be too disappointed.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
Sunday, Victoria Park, Collingwood four nine thirty three had a
chance to win it after the sar and defeated by
the Melbourne Demons five seven thirty seven. Football is fun,
Football is cruel, Football is brutal.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
I love this game. This was such a good watch
and I'm a Crulton fan, so to see the umpires
and I was actually rooting for them.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
Who am I umpires? You're rooting for the umpires?
Speaker 3 (27:29):
No, said the pie peave.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
Around the corner from vic Park. The weather in this
guard because I was like, it's rainning, I'm not going
it rained. The sun came out and rained and it
got windy again.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
I was just like, oh yeah, welcome, good game of footy.
But talk about a captain standing up when needed to
Kate or takes a crucial contested mark in the goal
square to seal the victory for the D's not and
then the Pires had many chances to win the game,
but ultimately the inaccuracy in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
We talked about this last week.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
We did they led the inside fifty count but only
turning nine point five percent of the entries into goals.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
Look at Spence the news stats.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
Lady, But yeah, Grace Campbell shot after the siren could
have won the game. Disappointing to not get that. But overall,
what do we think of the Pies in this one,
because obviously d sitting on top of the ladder had
a percentage of a second now, but at the time
of the game, I think they had a percentage about
five hundred percent or something like.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
Crazy, But so everyone thought this would be a bit
of a blowout game. But the Pies, yeah, they really
took it.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
Again Collingwood, they're competitive. But we talked about the D's
last week that had a lot of injuries as well. During
the week as well, live per sales out as well.
There was another who's done An mcl as well, Shelley Heath,
it was who was out. It's just I think the
injuries are going to hurt I know they're three and zero,
but I think those injuries are going to hurt them
because their key players in crucial parts of the ground
(28:52):
for them. So I think this was that adjustment game.
Collingwood are going to be tough to beat. We've sort
of seeing that they've been competitive in all of their games.
I think D's are sort of the bottom end of
the top eight team. Yeah, but if you've got Kate
horror Lista Bannon and Taylor Harris in your forward line,
as long as you get the footy to them, you're
probably going to be set up for success. It's just
those depth players as well, which is the concern. But
(29:14):
I'm calling what I've enjoyed their improvement.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
Yeah, absolutely, And just like it was out she.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
Was out, we got Ash with more midfield this week,
the oldest game she's playing. But yeah, obviously unfortunately slices
out which we love her. But yeah, great Sea Ashener
get those more midfield minutes, fishing the game with seventeen
disposals and four clearances, doing more and more of her
skills develop over time. Seems like she's leveling up each game,
(29:39):
still waiting for that absolute start and breakout game. But yeah,
we're on Ash center.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
Or do you think Sam Wright hurt us last week
when we said so Ash into the midfield.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
Maybe we're available for coaching.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
It's fine, But back to the D's, I thought Eliza McNamara,
a friend of the pod, actually did a great job.
She was crucial in the way Melbourne played with the
absence of Shelley Heath and of course live per Cells.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
What about third quarter of that center clearance, the tap down,
Eliza gets their hands over and they just lace out
Taylor Harris straight away.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
I was.
Speaker 1 (30:07):
Good.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
Those connections that they had between the midfields and the
forwards was great to watch. And Harris with another great
mark and another great launch. This just happens every week.
I'll put the video upefully it's playing now, Brody. But yeah,
question for the panel Demons Sit three and I, which
you did touch on, Alex. Do we think they are
a genuine contender.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
With the injuries? No, I don't. I struggle with their
with their midfield depth and their defensive stability as well
by giving up a score like that to Collingwood and
having the chance late in the game to lose it
against the team like North Brisbane Sydney, I think they're
going to struggle.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
I agree, yeah, same.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
Someday Freemantle Oval while you're up two two fourteen defeated
by North Melbourne eighteen sixty one one four Fremantle Community
Bank Oval will now be known as the house that
Tyler Randall built.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
Well, there you go, what a way to kick us
off North saw Port score. They said, no, we need
to hold this record. Less than twenty four hours later
they you know, a ton tund up one by a
Ton set that record the first one hundred point win
we've had in the AFLW, highest AFLW score, producing one
(31:17):
hundred and fourteen.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
AUR and did it without Jazz Garna for two and
a half quarters exactly.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
I think that's the big news line out of the
game is Jazz Ghana. We've heard from North today is
that today, being Monday, the day after the game, that
Jazz has not gotten worse. She's been sent for scans
this afternoon. So like at the time of recording, we
don't know what it is. She's flying home from Perth,
That's what I assume say.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
Well, I'm just saying like sometimes if they swell up,
they might not fly home straight away. Okay, it might
not be too bad. If she's flying home.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
I think they're hoping for a sprain. I think everyone's
hoping for but Ghana. Yeah, I think every fan was
just watching and just had a bit of a shot
to the heart there. We saw her come off with
that ankle injury.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
Nice of Jazz Ghana, like, not that she's injured, but
nice of her to show that the rest of North
Melbourne can just share the love and share the load
by kicking all exactly right.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
Speaking of goals, it was raining goals. They kicked eighteen,
so really strong return for forward entry. Six goals from
eleven in the first term alone, so fifty four percent
goal efficiency. Yeah, between o' lachlan Bog had four, Randall
had three. They can all get it done at Bog
had a beautiful like snap she's going to kick going.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
Run to the.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
Game. I think year in that game one.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
Of the North Melbourne Irish Irish players will kick goaliear
This year, Yeah, she was huge.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
Riddell again hit forty eilish year and had a really
really get great day she did, and Tessa Boyd was
really good in defense.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
She underrated or that we just keep saying it because
she's really good and we don't talk about it so
much because there's so many good players in this team.
Speaker 2 (32:59):
There is so many good players. But of course it's
her return to AFLW year this year, so in game
number three. She's had a really good.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
Two games, am I Are you underrated already? Yes? Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
Probably for the Doctors though, gosh, they what is their
game plan?
Speaker 1 (33:16):
That's someone tell me in the comments right now, what
is Fremantle's game plan? And if you can make sense
of it, I will buy you a coffee or a
beer because I look at them with their game plan
heading into next week traveling to Sydney. If Sydney get
their run and carry game going, and we're looking at
a score like this again, I had no game plan.
They look old.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
Yeah, well you feel for them because they literally could
not get their hands on the ball to even try
and put their game plan into practice. So if no
one has the answer for us, that's that's why they
couldn't get their hands on the ball. Their defense just
knocked out Odris School went down with injury. Indie Strump
did her best. I did what she could. But it's
really hard, yeah, really hard when you've got the attack
(33:58):
of the Ruse coming at you.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
They looked slow.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
Yeah, I mean the roue hard, hard match up and
the Docors have had a hard fixture so far so
but a couple of big losses.
Speaker 3 (34:13):
They're not really staying in the game. Like big losses
in second week, two weeks in a row, could be
three weeks in a row. Like, how are they going
to come back from them?
Speaker 1 (34:22):
Yeah, they beat Paul, Oh, they're a chance of beating Brisbane. Nope,
give up one hundred, give up one hundred again. And
I just said, like, what is their game plan? I've
watched their games very close this year. I was excited
to see what Freo could do this year. I don't
know what the game plan is. They look they genuinely
look cooked.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
The positive for Freo is that they actually won them
all in the middle, which would be a shock to some,
but they I mean quickly, they quickly lost it and
North just ran away with the uncontested game. Just back
on the ruse, they're averaging twenty points per opening term,
double the rest of the competition.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
P five hundred.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
Yeah, it's unreal.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
So I think, yeah, when we compare, obviously we all
know that North is the premier team in the competition,
but they've got so many stars that now that we
can see in other teams. We look at Richmond, the
gaps are just too large to fill. Everyone look at
North and try do the same.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
Good luck.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
Yeah, So I don't think anyone has the Dockers getting
their season back on track.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
I reckon this once could do a number on them
on Saturday if it's something similar. Yeah. Finally, Spence Hour Sunday,
Brighton Holmes Arena, the gren Ash Hour. Brisbane six eight
forty four defeated by a rampaging Carlton nine four fifty eight.
You know, I'm just gonna put this down off you go, Spence.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
How boody good. The improvement that we've seen from last
year is just amazing to watch. I know this was
my big call for Brisbane to Carlton to beat Brisbane.
I'm just so impressed. Abby McKay thirty two touches, Dana
Finn twenty nine, Mimi Hill twenty five. Absolute domination.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
Yeah, the Blues are big signs of improvement. Love to
see it. They're a really fun team to watch.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
They've run through the corridor was awesome.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
Yes, and that's it comes down with those three names
that you just mentioned. Spence, Abby, Dana and Mimi Hill.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
Just huge.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
This is the biggest win for coach Matthew buff The
Lions would be kicking themselves with this result.
Speaker 1 (36:19):
Yeah, I still have my Brisbane Nicks. It disappeared. Yeah
it's back, it's back, it's and this time the ick
is staying.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
Do you know what the inaccuracy cost them again? It
cost them against the Hawks in round one. It's cost
them again. They really if they just fixed that, they
would have they would be three and Ozero and the
Blues defenders managed to keep Dakota Davis and we know
how dangerous that she can be at Bay.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
She had just one goal.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
But speaking game wise, just the Blues got out of
the blocks early, kicked the first couple of goals. Lions
definitely settled it. This was not a game that where
the Lions were just blown away. But yeah, unfortunately for
Lions fans, look away. Now they had nine more inside fifties.
So again it just comes down to the goal kicking
accuracy that really is costing them.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
In the Carlton, Carlton usual fashion. I thought they were
going to choke it in the third quack. I was ready.
I was like, this is just a normal Carlton game.
Men's and women that thought that it was going to
all go downhill. But can we talk about Keilly? Sure up,
she may have kick got with a year.
Speaker 1 (37:20):
Has still has a raised as an issue to put
with that.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
Maybe I'm just biased, but I thought it was.
Speaker 1 (37:25):
Pretty so unbiased.
Speaker 2 (37:30):
I mean, Keelles was pretty incredible to watch.
Speaker 1 (37:34):
Triple Candy.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
Oh, I can't wait to make the Goal of the
Week video.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
We already it's going to be that. And there's a
couple of good goals on the weekend, the running goal
late in the West Coast game as well as we
but you have a look at it, Ali Anderson only
nineteen touches Bree Cone in eighteen bell doors twenty like
all the stars, Like you look at the top possession
getters on the field to ad the top fifteen were
Carlton players.
Speaker 2 (37:55):
Yes, absolutely, I think we need to talk about this
newfound confidence that they've got running through their game plan
because they've had three pretty good performances. Now, I know
last they didn't get the win last week, but to
bounce back like this against a quality opposition, Yeah, Matthew
Buck would be pretty happy with his side. And you know,
(38:16):
dare to dream.
Speaker 3 (38:18):
I think we can play finals. I'm putting it out there.
That's my big call call.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
I would love to just touch on Tara Bahana because
she obviously used to. She's well and truly used to
this Queensland Heat where they played of course the former
Gold Coast Son, so.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
She was great.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
She kicked three goals. I loved Sophie McKay's handball TOAs
she was great. She had a really nice assist to
Bihana slotting the goal, so it's great. And obviously Matilda
Schultz had a day out on Saturday, but we can't
forget about her sister Poppy. In just her third game,
she was really good. She took some clutch marks in
(38:55):
defense when the game was on the line, so very impressive.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
Yeah, I think the Blues this goes for the whole
club in general. They're very a confidence based team. If
we can keep this momentum rolling, I'll be very happy.
I'm already very impressed.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
Right, you're two and one, so we'll quickly run through this.
Western Bulldogs next week win Gold Coast at Icon the
week after win North Melbourne loss Freemantle at Icon Park
win Okay, So that would have you at five and two.
Geelong at Gumba, I see I can, Sydney, Henson Okay,
(39:27):
Sint Kilda, GWS and West Coast to finish off.
Speaker 3 (39:30):
Saint Kilda g WS wins West Coast se how the
rest of the season West Coast is.
Speaker 1 (39:34):
In Perth by the way, and those other two at
Icon Parks. So you're looking at set between six and
eight wins seven probably get your fine. Yeah, there we go,
there you go, Okay.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
Don't give me too excited, Alex.
Speaker 1 (39:47):
I was just a straight up via on that check.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
Just vibe checking here for the Lions. They've got the
Crows next week, so pencil it and that's going to
be probably in the game.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
I'm just checking it right now. What am I doing
next week? Out about one oh five at sundown watching
the Swans at the same time. Thanks AFL, Thanks your
schedules I made from Canada. Good job. Let's have a
look at the ladder from the weekend. In a shock
to and No and North Melbourne have just decided to
blow teams away. They're three No, five hundred and four
(40:17):
percent taking their spot on the top. Yeah, they're just
going to stay. They're going to stay there for the
rest of you. No, the D's three hundred and three percent,
the Swan's two two essen in one ninety one Hawthorne
or one, two six. Then your team's on two wins Kawana, Carlton,
Wallachiche Morara. So all teams that have had two more
wins in the top eight. The rest has made up
with one win teams or who haven't won a game Brisbane, Yat's, Paulty, Collingwood,
(40:40):
the Dogs, Euroroke Wall You're up and then the zero
win teams Richmond, Geelong, GWS and gold Coast. While you're ups,
percentage is thirty nine, only worsened by gold Coast at
thirty two.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
Yeah that's not great, no, I mean the big talking
points there is that the Lions and the Cats are
out of the eight.
Speaker 1 (40:59):
Yeah, the Cats is zero and three and Brisbane, yeah
lost for lost for Brisbane. Next week they'll be all
one and three. Season cooked question mark, A long way
to go.
Speaker 3 (41:13):
After that, let's.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
Get into the tipping results of the weekend. Jess maintains
her lead, tipping eight.
Speaker 2 (41:21):
The Lions come on.
Speaker 1 (41:22):
Every would has.
Speaker 2 (41:23):
Seen that coming.
Speaker 1 (41:25):
I also tipped eight, so I've just jumped ahead. I've
jumped equal with Spencer tipped seven and.
Speaker 3 (41:31):
I didn't tip Carlton after all that. But my big
call I did a leo if you've seen that on
the AFL Today Show. He's notorious for coming covering all basies.
That's what I tried to do. Why didn't I tip
the booes.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
And the stats guy drinking saka in Kyoto? Right now,
I've got six, he's trailing behind us all at the moment.
Did manage to send me a text the other day
going go us I think he bought a football shirp too.
Let's have a look at our big core results from
the weekend. Jess, I just think you're gonna roll with
the drawer every week. I think it's only fan now
A couple of yes.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
I know it was on and I will probably do
the same thing next week.
Speaker 1 (42:04):
To the stats guy, the Bombers one, but they did
not win by thirty. Taylor Harris did not kick four
goals for me at low scoring game. I was done
at halftime. Spence tipped Carlton is the big call.
Speaker 3 (42:15):
I'm back and I'm back with a bang.
Speaker 1 (42:17):
The lock results North One's going to be the same
one every week for me. North Wind.
Speaker 3 (42:22):
That can't be a lock. It's too easy.
Speaker 1 (42:24):
It's a lock. It's got to be a guaranteed thing
that will happen.
Speaker 3 (42:27):
When you compare to Jess and her Lock kicking three,
I'm just getting used to what Lock really means.
Speaker 2 (42:35):
It's an absolute serious You think, yes, okay, it's given the.
Speaker 1 (42:39):
First three weeks, you would take two weeks.
Speaker 2 (42:41):
You were, said Chloe moy for one week. You know,
that just feels like it's selling.
Speaker 1 (42:46):
Her short, you know. Anyway, Astradel twenty five, I think
she had that a quarter home and Stat's guy tipped
Brisbane as his.
Speaker 3 (42:54):
Like whoops looking.
Speaker 1 (42:57):
Out, just rubbing it into it. This performance of the
weekend can as always be a player or a team.
I did mine on Sunday afternoon. That's why mine's different
to everyone. I did mine at about three o'clock on Sunday,
I said West Coast because I loved that last quarter
fight back. I thought that was phenomenal. Because there's a
thing that a few of my friends and I talk
about that in the men's game, if you are six
(43:17):
goals thirty six points down at any time near on
impossible to win one and one hundred type of thing.
AFLW twenty four points is the threshold for that. West
Coast did that on the weekend, So for that, that's
why they're the best performance.
Speaker 3 (43:30):
For me about Carlton and Tops, I mean, why wouldn't
I pick them scene?
Speaker 2 (43:34):
I think I also had the blues. Yeah, that's pretty
good effort from them.
Speaker 1 (43:40):
We could also shout out Matilda Schultz Sophia Hurly for
just individually brilliant performances across the weekend as well.
Speaker 3 (43:45):
I think there's a lot of areas over the weekend.
I think it was just great. I think it was
an overall great game of a great round of footy and.
Speaker 2 (43:51):
We had an upset, we had blowouts, and we had
close games.
Speaker 1 (43:54):
So if you if you're getting four ripping games of
footy each week, one average one and a couple of
big score I think overall that's going to be palatable
for fans, which is the main thing as well.
Speaker 3 (44:04):
Let's see it.
Speaker 1 (44:04):
