Speaker 1 (00:03):
I've got a special segment on the AFL Today Show.
Here we've got a hawk star, a massive Dan Brosio.
Thanks for jumping on mate. How was the buy round
so far?
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Thanks guys, thanks for having me. Yeah, by round has
been pretty good, pretty relaxing. I went up to Gold
Coast for a couple of nights, which was nice, and yeah,
good to just get away and relax, which is a
bit unlike me, But I'm good to just relax.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
I love to hear that either time of player to
completely switch off from footy doesn't sound like it that
you said you might not relax, or you're a bit
of a enoughy and try to keep up with all
the other games, or what do you like?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Usually yeah, pretty much a footy nuffy. I watch pretty
much every game every week, and at least a half
of every game. And yeah, I find it quite hard
to switch off, especially during by week, because I feel
like I'm missing out on a lot. But it was
good to just get away and yeah, relax a little bit.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Yeah beautiful.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
Yeah, I want to start. I think hockball is an
appropriate place.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Why not? Why not?
Speaker 4 (00:55):
I've seen of people trying to define it. We don't
really get a straight answer out of everyone. I want
your definition of at Mass and I want to actually
know who created it. Is there anyone behind it at
the club that started the term.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
I actually have no clue, to be honest, I don't know.
I feel like my understanding is that it's just like
fast attacking footy and with a bit of flair. So
that's the way we want to play. And yeah, I
don't know who created it, but we'll roll with it.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
You could just take it if you want.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
I reckon that we claim it.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
We could claim it.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
Look, last year, obviously everyone was riding the wave of hockball,
you know, going from a bottom four side to winning
a final, and now sort of this year there's a
lot of I guess expectation and pressure from the media
and those outside the club. How have you sort of
coped with that personally and how is sort of Sam Mitchell,
I guess coached that and directed and talked about that.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Look, we keep things pretty simple week to week and
I think we know as a club what we need
to bring each week to play our good play out
our style of footy. And I think we haven't really
quite clicked in a game yet, Like everything hasn't gone
our way, but I think we have really good moments,
which is hard us in good stead, but I feel like, yeah,
we're still building it and still learning, and we're still
(02:15):
such a young side, so everyone's still learning their role
and what's expected of them. So I think if we
just keep building and keep being predicted with each other,
we can go a long way.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Yeah. Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Obviously Foota has been a big part of your life
is your life, But how important is family getting involved
in the club in yourself. We've seen some clips of
your Hawthorne social is absolutely going. I can't say that
was on my twenty No, that's been good fun. But
how much they involved and how much they yet on
your journey and things.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Oh mate, Yeah, I just love having them involved. And
I think ever since I was a little like, they've
always been there for me.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
So to have them involved and with.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
The club, and I think Hawthorne is such a great
club with that stuff, and they're so inclusive with everyone
and they make it such a big family club, so
it's such a great place to be and it makes
it a lot, makes it a lot easier.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Yeah. Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Also on your sister's side, i've heard that she's got
an awesome left foot like you, and she's gone all
right with her footy as well.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yeah, she's gone pretty well. Yeah, I'm pretty proud of
her and how she's gone. But still got a long
way to go, so hopefully, Yeah, she keeps keep working
hard and yeah, you never know what can happen.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Yeah, absolutely, we've I've heard from a few people. But
what's it like living with giant Newcomb And what's the
pet peeve? What?
Speaker 3 (03:29):
What's your pet peeve? About?
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Living without it?
Speaker 2 (03:34):
There's not really much that I hate about him, but
that's good. Yeah, I actually love living with him. He's yeah,
become one of my best friends. And yeah, just yeah,
he's so reliable on the field, but off the field
as well. He's just such a good leader and I
can lean off him a lot, and he gives me
a lot of a lot of great tough love when
I needed And yes, I feel like he's such a
(03:57):
great role model for me.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Yeah, there's a lot of good young leader it seems
like the Hawks.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Yeah, definitely, definitely, Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
Now every club has sort of their funny, outgoing player
that like we know who they are kind of are,
But is there anyone who's I guess unexpectedly funny that
we might not have picked from the Hawks.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
And there's actually a couple, probably Henry Huswait.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
Like the Pencil.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Yeah, he's a very he's a very shy guy, like
outside the four Walls, but inside the four Walls, I
think he's a very funny guy. And probably Josh Webll
as well, I reckon.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Yeah, yeah, nice's Joe Webble. But yeah they're probably the two. Yeah, lovely, Yeah,
I like that.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Also, I know you're from the Point Cook area played
for Point Cook Footy Club, especially with you juniors. I
heard there's a Massimo dan Brosio Award for the best
junior player.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
At the club.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Do they have to be a left foot or what's
the criteria there? To be as fast as you ought
to go there?
Speaker 2 (04:56):
I think they just like they pick an age group
and yeah, the best player on in the club gets
out the wall. But I'm pretty pretty honored to be
have an award named after me and that club so
much to me growing up, and yeah, I try to
get back there as much as I can, because yeah,
at the end of the day, they were the ones
that really paved the way for me and helped me
(05:17):
get to where I am, so as much as I
can give back to them, I want to be able
to do that.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
And last year actually coached on the.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Fourteen's as well, which was something I really loved doing
and want to do going forward as well.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
No, absolutely, I love that. I was actually down there
the other week for danes One playing. Oh yeah, absolutely,
I think you were there as well.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
I was there. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
I had had a bit of a look how he
played as well, and Jesus pretty hasn't really lost, has he.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
I wish, Yeah, I wish anyone could just walk around
and get the twenty five touches and three goals.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
That's good.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
That was awesome, good crowd there. So we always finish
off with a few games on the show. We like
to do a few blind ranking. Are you familiar with
like a blind ranking?
Speaker 3 (05:55):
Mess? Not really, but yeah, I'm very happy to do it.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
So I will say play, I'll say a player's name,
and you've got to go one to five and you
don't know who and you don't know who's next, and
I want you to rank him on the biggest pest
or someone you wouldn't want to be in your locker, buddy,
in the club, at the.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Club if you're doing that, all right.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Here we go first one off, pretty easy one the Wizard.
Where are ranking him under five?
Speaker 3 (06:19):
He's a bit of a pest, isn't he. I'm going to
go so wait one is like you don't want him
bees pest.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
The biggest pest is number one, and then it goes
all the way down to five.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
But you don't know who's coming next. I'll go to
I reckon two.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Yeah, jack in him Guinea No again, he's actually I
love him.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Probably I'll put him at.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Three, three, yeah, nice and say James cicily.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Sis, Yeah, wouldn't one, haven't you actually? So I'd put
him at put him at five.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Five, Yeah, I don't mind that Marbi our Cholt.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
And Mubs is a man of a few words, so
I'll put him at four.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Yeah, yeah, respect and then Connor McDonald to wrap it up,
love Mac.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
But yeah, I gotta have to put that one.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
I mean, if you've got a rats, Tael, I think
you've got to be the biggest with the rastas past.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
Now, I think you've done pretty well there, Massa. Thank
you so much for jumping on just for this quick interview,
and that was that was good finding good luck against
the Ruse next week.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Thanks so much, guys, appreciate you having me on
