Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome back to the AFL Today Show for a bit
of midweek madness. I'm your host Leah McCallan, also know
as the stats guy. We'll getting out the way early.
Leah Malali's on the couch. He's still fired up after
a Hawk's winner.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Gone there, that's a bit disrespect foreshadowing there the latest thing.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
That is the latest thingsment that we're getting too.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
I've also got Code sports journalist Jess Robinson back on
the couch art. She's going to be fired up about
the Tribune I reckon as a Northman.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Are you going, Jess?

Speaker 4 (00:27):
Well, I'm good, but I'm also a bit flat. I
know I was so depressing last night, but I mean
we should have seen it coming.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
Yeah, we should have. The AFL has been an absolute
roller coaster this year. This is it's going to be
a very rollercoastery show. There's going to be some nice
points that we're going to cover. There's going to be
the tribunal that could take about half an hour just
to come. A lot of emotions, A lot of emotions, actually, yeah,
there could be a lot of emotions. As said, they're
going to be a midwek winners and losers that we
always go through a new segment actually of you can't

(00:54):
get no respect, So players that are underappreciated, there's been
a lot of disrespects thrown aroundcross the week.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
We want to just give them some love, give plays
some love and actually just highlight the disrespect cycle that's
been happening.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
Yes, there is a disrespect cycle which we'll touch on.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Of course, got the Thursday night preview which is actually
a blockbuster Essendon versus North Melbourne.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
We were talking before the show Jess as well.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
I think it might be North's first Thursday night game
since the continuation of Thursday Night Footy.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
I think I'm not sure.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
I definitely can't remember no a Thursday night game, so
I think you might be right.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Yeah, I'm not complaining though before we get into the show,
and make sure you check out all the socials. That's
AFL Today AU across x, Instagram, TikTok, It's AFL Today
Show on YouTube as well, and Ossie Rules Today on Facebook.

Speaker 3 (01:37):

Speaker 1 (01:38):
And then on the YouTube, we're on the way to
seven K. Subscribe to seven K Today or hit seven
kyah beautiful. So next goal is ak and then ten Yeah,
we're looking in strife.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
For ten kbo round ten.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Yeah, maybe we'll go seven and a half k by round.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Okay ten, just just keep going towards ten.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Yeah, So make sure you subscribe, so hit those subscribers,
hit the notifications, but goes a long way. Make sure
you check out our social media later today as well.

some beers it's a hat, a hat even.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Yeah, it's good fun.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
So get around that and check out all the socials
that's AFL today.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Are you all right? It's a big show today.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
There's a lot going on, a lot of North chat,
which good and bad, but it's the midweek winners and
losers that will start with winners.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Now.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
I just wanted to touch on this one because Bever
all pre season I said he's going to be gone
by round six, round seven, possibly. The Bulldogs are absolutely flying.
He seems so calm, he seems so zen at the moment,
and he's just given Bulldogs and some guys are playing
career best footy under BEV again.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
So is he back? Is Bever just just back? As
a great coach.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Well he never left, Yeah, but it's in he looks
so angry last year and Cook.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Maybe he's like taking some therapy or something, just like
doing the opposite to what Jamara does.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Maybe Jamara being outside of the club has actually calmed.
What are your thoughts on Bevo?

Speaker 4 (03:01):
Just well, I think maybe the group has kind of
come together in the face of adversity with or Jamara,
the outside noise and everything, So you know, maybe there's
a bit of bonding happening, a bit of extra love
for the rest of the playing group. I don't know,
but they are flying and never in doubt, Bevo, never.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Never doubt.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Yeah, I think a lot of us, I'm not about yourself,
but a lot of us in the preseason had him,
had him gone.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
But they're gone so well.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
And you know what, I really like that he has
shut down any talk of coaching elsewhere next year.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
So yeah, that's as a Dogs fan as well, I
think at the start of the season they're like, oh,
I'm not sure be in back him at the moment.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Especially'd rather him, like if he was to leave, just
not coach anywhere else. You know what I mean, You're
a Dogs fan.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
Yeah, you've got a friendship.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Yeah, Like he's in career best form, I reckon as
a coach. Yeah, and you've got you know, Matthew Kennedy
playing great as a recruit, Riley West career best, James
Harm's career best James. Who would have thought these guys
would you know, outperform what they have delivered and bevo
isetting the out of the team.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
It's great to see. Yeah, yeah, he's it's just unbelievable.
Are the other winners obviously just Carlton in general? I
know we have to but they got they got a
really good win against Geelong. VOSSI everyone's like, Vossy gone
now he's he's the best coach Can'd has ever had.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
They're talking finals now, do we? I don't know about that.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
They are.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
Yeah, the long season, long time we've seen we've seen
more crazy things happen. But I know, I was really
happy to see Harry McKay, you know, celebrate those goals,
kicked three on a big stage, big win over Geelong.
So really happy to see that. But gosh, everyone just
like jumps the gun really early. I know that doesn't

(04:44):
it's Vossy that we've got to give him a shot. Yeah,
you know what, they're turning it around so they're on
the winner's list.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
It was just it was good to see that sort
of every time Geelong got moments, Yes, they were able
to bring it back into their favor. I think that's
credit to Vossi and his sort of aura when he
walks in the room, the command he has over the players.
But they still won't make.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Finals though I don't think they're going to make finals either.
Need more, but we need we need to see a
bit more consistency. And as I said, I don't think
Geelong have been playing very well. I've been saying that
on the list said the last a show because everyone's
been not agreeing with me. But I genuinely don't think
Geelong have been ac good this year. Jesse, You've got
a few more winners on this list goal of the
Year contenders. We actually do a goal of the Year

(05:26):
segment every week from the Social and Social, so check
that one out. But there was a lot of good
goals the last couple weeknds, especially last week.

Speaker 4 (05:33):
Yeah, I just think there were what a time to
watch as a fan. There was just so many moments
to get excited about and I mean not to bring
the North buyers again. You know, George Waldlore's goal was amazing,
like clutch, just in the timing of the game as well.
It was really impressed Bobby Hill's goal on Anzac Day.

(05:54):
It doesn't really get much better than that. They were
both kind of they were very drop drop.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
One was a snap one was which was against Essendon.
One was against Port when I was really close. What
happened to do with anything, I don't know, just clutch.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
It's harder to kick a goal, I would love to say, George,
I think Bobby's is beut. I just you know, he
was a ninety thousand plus at the g. It doesn't
really get much bigger than that.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Yeah, no, good call, good call. What else we got here?
Butter's leadership qualities just.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
Yeah, I thought it was a really mature display from
Butters for context. I mean, we've all seen the clips,
but Jason Harfrancis and Ken Hinckley having a bit of
a head to head on the ground for everyone to see,
and as Jason was, you know, going to just walk
away from his coach, but Ha's really just brought him in.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
Yeah, which is very rare.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
For him, he's got the most fines in AFL history,
is a bit of an angry man on the field,
but yeah, he did step.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Step up there.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
I just thought it was a really mature display from
him and I think Port fans would have loved to
see that.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
Yeah, No, I agree another one here, Sun's big win. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
We were talking about this Leo as well, that they
just needed to get that back on back on track
because the week before was horrible.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Yeah, well they were lucky, not lucky, but they've just
flipped the switch, didn't they in that sort of late
second quarter, third quarter, down by five.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Goals, up by ten, yeah, eight kick twelve.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
Yeah, so you're kind of thinking there for a bit.
This is one of the upsets of the round and
a bit of maturity from the Suns which you probably
have never ever said in.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Their whole lifetime. No, they've shown.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
Probably their best win. Yeah, could be could be up
there with one of their best wins if.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
They knock off Brisbane this week.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
I think, Yeah, if they beat Brisbane, which would be
very hard, but it's a big if. Yeah, it's a
massive if. And it was against Sydney who had been
very disappointing undern They've had a lot of injuries. But yeah,
I'm a little bit worried about Sydney down in fourteenth.
That's another team crossing out of finals.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
I think we put the earlier there. Well, you always
teld me that I'm always sitting on the fence. I
went early with Calm.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Last winner that we got down here, steel side bottom
his epic Anzac Day performance. If you win the Anzac
Day matter, you can celebrate that for the rest of
the year.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
I reckon that. He was unbelievable. A record sorry, career
hired fifteen clerences for him.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
So yeah, I just think he he had no right
to go out there and just put on that.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Old he's so good.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
Yeah, incredible.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
I've got a question for the panel. What do you
think is higher his current coaches votes this season or
his age?

Speaker 3 (08:26):
I don't even know how old. That's a big call.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Well, I'm going to say his age, because you'd have
to have a lot of coaches votes in seven games.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
Jess to be fake, probably could be coaches like he's been.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
I think he's equal first in coaches votes.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
He's thirty four coaches votes and he's thirty four years old.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Oh, even there we go. What an effort though, to
be on thirty four coaches votes at his age.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
Incredible when everyone thought he.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Was he was done. Him and Pendles are just showing
that they could just play forever. It's been annoying because
I don't want Pendles to pass Brent Harvey's games record,
but he could more games.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
Well, because it will be sub a few games as
we reckon next year.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
Yeah, he doesn't look like he's slowing down.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
Yeah he doesn't. No, he doesn't.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
All right, that is probably the only positives for the
rest of the show. Let's get into the losers. Leo,
this is you've been coming on from the long run.
You can check out the socials as well. Marcus and
myself have done a few clips on it. But the
AFL tribunal system just in general is backwards.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
It's upside down. What are your thoughts on it?

Speaker 2 (09:24):
Well, the fact that the Paul Curtis suspension and he's
also another loser, is zero or three weeks. I don't
understand that.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
Does that work?

Speaker 2 (09:32):
Like, as an AFL fan, you hear that and you go,
why why is that zero.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
Or three weeks?

Speaker 2 (09:40):
It is just a system that is set up for failure,
isn't it. Yeah, And Paul Curtis unfortunately he's a loser.
He doesn't want to be a loser. No one in
the AFL community wants him to be a loser. No,
but he is a loser according to the AFL tribunal
system and the MRO. I think Michael Christian has lost
the plots they have. Yeah, like what you don't need

(10:02):
a physics expert to tell you that that is just
like a normal tackle. There's an accident in a football field.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
Yeah, quite remarkable. Hey, Like every single person in the
AFL community is agreed.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
It's not us being biased North fans just there's literally
everyone's gone.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
In agreement exactly, and for some reason, the tribunal just
think otherwise. Unfortunately North have chosen just to know where
the cost and.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
I think if they appeal again, it's the AFL just
want to stamp their foot down at the moment because
they have I don't think there's been many challenges this year.
Maybe one challenge this year that's actually been successful in THEE.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
But that's a disgrace.

Speaker 4 (10:41):
Yeah, it's it is a disgrace and for fans watching
at home, like how how are you meant to watch
the game. You know, a tackle you think, great, it
could have potentially been you know in the back, or
yeah you get a free kick, you know if it's there.
But and then just to be rubbed out for three
where I don't know. It's a huge blow for North

(11:01):
as well. Yeah, it feels like everyone's against.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
We're not good.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
We'd give us our best player, Paul Curtis, and then
you go, oh no, they're playing the Bombers this week
and aren't gone that. While either you will take your
best player away, you can make it even worse, like
give us a chance.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
I just love that.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
The AFL is also like, oh, what is he meant
to do? He's meant to roll overside?

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Well, you're running out.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
He could still hit his head and get cancust if
he rolled over then the same result. It's like, nah,
he should have just like taken him to grand or
like not tackled him.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
You know, Like that was bizarre listening to the list
of things that he could have done in that half
a second of a tackle.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
Yeah, maybe has to put a pillow underneath his head.
Does he have to I don't know, does he have
to escort him off the ground under his arms.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
I don't know, we're micromanaging AFL players. Imagine like if
they had the micro manage you and like you have
to repeat eight sentences over and over when you start
the show.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
Yeah, I do that already.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
In but don't thing is also is that I know
they want to protect the head and concussion is such
a huge topic of conversation. It's a focus for the
a f L. But a f L players volunteer to
go play the sport, like they that's what their job is.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
They know that they could get concust possible.

Speaker 4 (12:20):
It is a risk of the game, you know, it's
a risk of these players take and they choose to take.
So was that a stomach from for less weeks? But yeah,
so I don't know. Is it now every time a
player gets concussed?

Speaker 3 (12:41):
Well, that's the conversation, ask you guys.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
In the rules you have to get suspended if someone
gets concusted. But like, just say what you run into
each other? Just say there's a guy running one way
to go around the other and they both get concussed.
Did they both get three weeks?

Speaker 3 (12:55):
Like? Where are we where?

Speaker 2 (12:58):
They said they weren't going to look at the impact anymore.
I swear they said that.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
While they've.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
They flip flopped, and then a few more things on that,
because this is just everyone's fight up about this comparing
it to some other tribunal incidences.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
Was who was going to say, cozy picket? He got
four weeks? It was a four weeks. I had a
look just before.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
He had four weeks for taking someone out on like
not on purpose but very careless, bumping him in the head.
And then this gets three weeks for a complete accident.
We've had who else? So there was a few other ones.
Dan Houston, same thing. He jumped in the air, bump
someone in the head. That was three weeks.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
How's that got? You get five last week? On the
one last week last year? Yeah, he got five, So
that was a bit different.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
But earlier in the Yeah, it doesn't make sense, make
it make sense, make it.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
Make so they did. The North legal team did refer
to Patrick Dangerfield's last year where that got overturned.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
If your name is Patrick David Tofield, Nick Dacos or
Crip crips.

Speaker 4 (13:57):
He needs to engage Carlson's lawyers.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
Yes, the girls and there's a star tacks, isn't there? Yeah,
last one on that. I don't know if you guys
saw Luke Parker's Instagram story.

Speaker 4 (14:06):
A lot of the North boys getting around.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
Yes, I actually respect that because AFL a lot of
other sports, the players are very outspoken, but AFL is
not usually like that.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
The North players, especially Luke Parker. What did he end
up saying on there?

Speaker 2 (14:17):
He said something like, you can't tackle anymore?

Speaker 4 (14:20):
Yeah, join us at Thursday nights touch footy.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Yeah, watch him get fined for that.

Speaker 4 (14:27):
I respect it, though I repect I.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
Shouldn't get fined. Watch him get fined.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
He might, but yeah, I'm glad people are standing up
for it.

Speaker 4 (14:33):
The one tackle I'd love to just compare it to
which I'd love an explanation. Y is Nick Watson on
Harley Red?

Speaker 3 (14:39):
Very similar? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (14:41):
That to me as a fan, I'm looking at it,
I'm like, that is maybe ninety five percent the same tackle.
And you know those those boys shook hands after the
game and posted on Instagram saying, you know it was
great contest.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
Yeah, it was a good to end.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
Nick Watson got paid hold on the ball like he
got the so well that was it was. Yeah, But yeah,
it was very similar though because his head actually ended
up hit his shoulder than his head hit the ground,
and he just didn't get can cast.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
I said on Sunday show that he just cast a
spell and.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
Cast the spell did all right, we are we passed
that for now, We've got out. We'vevented enough on that
one for now. For now, it's a big losers this
week on that one, a few other ones. Jest that
you've written down here. Damns Day's injured as well, which
is he's actually been playing pretty well for them.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (15:26):
I think it's just such a sad result for him
out for up to eight weeks. Mcl injuried who has
left knee. But this comes after like a couple of
knee injuries by this guy. He missed the twenty twenty
three Grand Final with mcl He did his a c
L as well in that same year, so he's been
out for a long time at the knees. Yeah, he

(15:48):
was putting together a string of good perform.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
Yeah, he's had a couple of three Gold games being solid.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
But he gets injured.

Speaker 4 (15:54):
Yeah, so he makes the loser list fair enough.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Feel for him the last loser that we've actually touched
on this on our show.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
I really like this one.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
It's about Rory Lobb's hair and his partner who's very
annoying on TikTok.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
But I don't know.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
I love her because she is fantastic Flexi Mary.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
So you're saying Lobb's the loser here not.

Speaker 3 (16:17):
His hair did look really bad on the week, didn't
look great.

Speaker 4 (16:20):
Yeah, well, if we've been following along, she is. She
specifically said no shaving there. Oh they're getting married later
this year.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
He's going to.

Speaker 4 (16:33):
So that was her one requirement. I thought her reaction
was quite hilarious or just really pushing the buttons.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
Yeah, I said he buffed it.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
He looked like a bowling ball, like he said, he's
not sure he's going to be able to grow it
all back.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
Yeah, no, I think we'll go back.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
He's just not leaving himself with a lot of roof
what's he going to do? Just like, yeah, can you
die or shaved head?

Speaker 3 (16:55):
He can't really because he's done something different every week.
You can't. What is he going to go from here?

Speaker 4 (16:59):
It was that he like reason just so you didn't
have to keep it.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
Like keeping it up though.

Speaker 3 (17:04):
Yeah one of the views.

Speaker 4 (17:07):
Yeah, it was great, so you know, made the loser's list,
mainly because Lexi.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
Was not happy.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Yeah, fair enough, fair enough, all right, we've gone through that.
That was the biggest loser segment we've ever had. But
we have to let the tribunal know that they just
need to be better for the fans, for us.

Speaker 4 (17:23):
Yeah, I mean it's tough to watch the game at
the moment. I think, you know, half of the entertainment
is which way is the umpire gonna call something so brutal?

Speaker 3 (17:31):
Yeah? No good, no good? All right? That was winners
and losers. Let's get into the brand news segment. Here
we go.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
Can't get no respect now leave. We talked about this
before the show, the cycle of disrespect on the past weekend.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
So I'll go through it and then we'll have a chat.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
You've had cane corns have a goal at cheese or
saying he's not that good it's played fifty one games,
and we'll get into that. Jason on Francis against Ken Hinckley,
that was a bit of if there Ross lying having
a goal at Hugo Hugo Garcia. Then you've got McWalter
being disrespectful by insinuating Sam Mitchell was disrespectful for putting
Tom barrass forward.

Speaker 3 (18:02):
Did that make sense?

Speaker 2 (18:04):
You're the one that doesn't make sense.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
You had to read it out. But overall, make that
makes sense. There's a lot of disrespect in the age.
We need a bit of positivity.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Yeah, I reckon, first we analyze the cycle of and
then I've got a little bit of appreciation for a player.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
Sure that'd be good.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
So Corn's against Cheesel. He's getting cheesy?

Speaker 4 (18:21):
Is he's just not like this?

Speaker 2 (18:25):
No, I do not like it.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
Well, like, obviously he hasn't been playing as well, but
he's comparing him. I saw the list of the comparative players.
He's comparing him to the top, like ten best midfields
in the comics?

Speaker 2 (18:35):
Is an'ty in that conversation.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
He was last year, but not right now.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
So that's I think that's his point. He's not in
it now right. No, I just Misready's point.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
No. I think his point is that he needs to
he just needs to have more impact on the game,
because he was saying even last year he had the
same impact.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
But I think I think last year Sheesel was having
great impact on games when he moved midfield half forward,
and I think, yeah, I think that was everyone sort
of agreed with that, right, like it was saying he
didn't he hasn't had the impact.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
But like.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
Guys for a bottom team, exactly, we can't get theever.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
It's not like as a twenty year old exactly, like.

Speaker 4 (19:13):
He's played like he's played a great role. North me
that he shows up every single week. If you're going
to criticize anyone, I think you could pick like ten other.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
Guys, thirty nine other guys.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
So you know, yeah, yeah, it's an interesting one.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
It's just a weird one that he loves to pick
his favorites. Oh yeah he was, haven't He was talking
up Jason or Francis and it was all good. And
then he has a goal cheeser. But that's probably one.

Speaker 4 (19:43):
Thing that I just really didn't like. Like you can
criticize a game, criticize the impact, you've got all of
all that to go off, but then to create a
full segment.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
Yeah just about one player.

Speaker 4 (19:54):
Yeah, I don't know. You have players going out taking
personal leave citing mental health, and then you've got people
like Cane Corn's just tearing down a twenty year old
and creating a segment based on his name. Does Harry
cheese will get some like commission or something out of
a segment.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
Being made his name. That's a very good point.

Speaker 4 (20:12):
I don't know. Can they steal that.

Speaker 1 (20:14):
Bring up channel seven and say can I get a
bit of extra cash for that?

Speaker 4 (20:17):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (20:17):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (20:17):
I feel like there needs to be some approvals maybe
in that. But yeah, I didn't respect it.

Speaker 3 (20:22):
No fair that is? That is definitely fair, Leo.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
You want to touch on the McWalter versus Sam Mitchell
versus Tom Brass versus everything.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
It's a bit weird.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
Don't get what's going on in Minnie's head at the moment.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
Yeah, so why is it disrespectful?

Speaker 2 (20:35):
Like I'm asking Minnie if you're watching, do you.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
Want to give some contexts of people who didn't know
what happened on the way So.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
Well, I thought you already did that. As like about
Tom Brasco.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
So last quarter of the game pretty much done, Mitchell
sends Tom Brass forward against his old side. He's kicked
one goal for I think, YEP in his career for
West Coast Yep. Mcqualter after the game didn't say it directly,
but insinuated there was disrespect in that move. I don't
think there is. I think Sam Mitchell's known to throw

(21:06):
the Magnets cisly forties. In his first year of coach,
he actually put sicily in the midfield in center bouncers.

Speaker 4 (21:13):
You know.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
He said in the post game he wants to try
battle forward. He wants to try Yeah, actually I don't.
He didn't say this, but there's rumors Scrimshaw might go forward.
He was having set shots at training one day, so
he's just trying things. It's not disrespectful. Focus on your
own backyard, mate.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
Yeah, you said that before the show.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
Mcwaltter just needs to concentrate on his own team, like
we're getting smashed. I think he can samech can do
whatever he wants.

Speaker 4 (21:35):
Absolutely. Mitchell said that this was their opportunity to try
a few things, So I think McWalter probably just needs
to take a look at his own team. I'm going, oh,
we gave him the chance to try some new things. Yeah,
it's a bit concerning.

Speaker 3 (21:47):
It was.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
It's just a bit strange by McWalter, and I think
he needed to leave that one be le a bit
more positivity that we're trying to get on the show. Yes,
you've got an underappreciated player unappreciated player just in general
this season.

Speaker 3 (21:58):
Who is it? Jake Bauer?

Speaker 2 (22:00):
I want to give ourn now. A lot of people
find Melbourne boring and how they move the football, and
I tend to agree that a bit they are a
bit boring. Positive that he said that boring, but I'm
just trying to turn it into a positive light because
Jake Bowie has had a breakout season so far. Against
Richmond as a half back, he had five clearances. So

(22:21):
not only is he rebounding an insight and delivering it
inside fifty with great ball use, he's actually getting his
hands on the ball first from a stoppage in the
defensive half and helping them rebound that way. That really
surprised me. That's that I think that goes very unnoticed
in games because he is a bit small in statue.
He's not the tallest, tallest unit rolling around and I

(22:44):
think he's overtaken definitely Christian Salem in that half back position.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
Yeah, Salem hasn't been good since he's been racking them,
but he hasn't been the.

Speaker 3 (22:51):
Impact that he has three years usual self.

Speaker 4 (22:54):
I think he could say that about most of them.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
Most of Melbourne. That's true. So you're just a shout
out for underrated hero of the week. It just needs
a bit more respect. Is that what you're saying? Put
some respect on his name? Yeah? I like it mate.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
All Right, before we get into the Thursday Night Footy
previous Leo, there's a guy behind the camera that might
have to replace you.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
Is he Is he excited? Is he excited as an
Essen fan? He doesn't look it. He doesn't look excited
about Marcus. I know he does, look at he's against
the only.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
Reason I was on this part is because he came
late to work as normal.

Speaker 3 (23:22):
Ah, where did that come from? Anyway?

Speaker 1 (23:26):
The Essendon fan Marcus Barzano's going to be jumping on
the show as we get into Essendon versus North Mumboon.
All right, Thursday Night Footy preview, the absolute blockbuster Essendon
versus North Numan. Who would have thought Thursday seven thirty
at Marble Stadium. We've got a bit of North buyers
between Jess and I here, So we brought in Marcus
Barzanare you going Marcus as the Essendon man.

Speaker 5 (23:44):
I had to even out the studio a little bit.
It was getting a little bit too north by.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
We had North in every second is actually fair so
fair enough.

Speaker 5 (23:52):
Yeah, I think I'm a little bit more happy with
the selection news that it's just now.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
Yeah, what do we talk about it? We can talk
about that so obvious.

Speaker 1 (24:00):
So we've got no Paul Curtis that we've we've touched on,
so we can talk about that another time. But another bigger,
big outjest that we've just found out about, which is
brutal but.

Speaker 4 (24:09):
So Alistair Clarkson has just revealed to the media that
George Wardlaw won't be playing tomorrow night.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
To quote, oh here we go, straight from the newsroom.

Speaker 4 (24:21):
Yeah, Clarko, George Wardlow copped a pretty savage quirky he's
been unable to train. He's close, but we don't think
he's recovered to play to the level or required tomorrow night,
so he won't play.

Speaker 3 (24:33):
Even if he played with one leak, he would still
go such a legend.

Speaker 4 (24:36):
It really hurts the North and North fans. I don't
know we need who we're bringing in.

Speaker 1 (24:42):
Well, I think we'll probably bring in I'd say eighty
Ford for Paul Curtis, but anyone else on the radar.

Speaker 4 (24:47):
Just I love to know where the selection teams head
at is at for Will Phillips. Yeah, what more does
he need to do. He's averaging twenty four disposals and
ten tackles in a couple of games. He he has
played in the VFL side, so I think maybe it's
time he gets a shot.

Speaker 3 (25:04):
Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
He'll probably come in for George Wardlow, I'd say, but
I don't know if he likes him.

Speaker 4 (25:09):
I don't know if he likes him either.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (25:10):
I think that Wardlawt is huge. He was the one
player that I was afraid of because he's actually one
of the North Melbourne players probably other than maybe ld
You to an extent and Jerry that actually they go in.
They have a lot of grier. I just love the
way he goes about Eddie. He was superb on the weekend.

Speaker 3 (25:24):
Probably game last week.

Speaker 5 (25:25):
Yeah, a five day break is pretty rough coming back
from an injury himself.

Speaker 3 (25:30):
So I'm lucky for Yeah. Yeah, I don't mind Will
Phillips in. Eddie Ford.

Speaker 1 (25:36):
I think will come in. He's been kicking a few
goals in the VFL. But Paul Curtis is such a
big out. The other one that has to be in
the team. I don't care what anyone says is really harder. Mean,
he was really good on the weekend. He was really
solid one on one. I think he only missed one
or one target. I think on his left foot he's
got a really silky left foot. Just a solid guy
down there. Even though he was so young, he was
he was really.

Speaker 4 (25:55):
Good and he shows up to each contest as well.
He's really putting it.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
Yeah, it shows up to eat contest rather than just
leaving someone out the back like we always doting.

Speaker 5 (26:05):
Obviously, there was a bit of controversy with Aiden Core
and gryffin Log being dropped.

Speaker 3 (26:09):
Do you think any of those come back into the side.

Speaker 5 (26:11):
We've got a rather full toward line with maybe.

Speaker 4 (26:15):
But to be fair, I would rather see the lineup
we brought him to face Port last week. Log did
not show much at all in the in the game
the week before, so I'd be happy to see him
sit out again and really earn his way back into
the team because the guys really stood up to all
last weekend. Obviously wasn't perfect, but they were putting in

(26:38):
some pretty good effort.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
If we play to the level that we played at
on the weekend, then we've got a chance to get
But with some big outs and the quick break is
not good for North.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
But that's another one. Essendon selection. Anything in the news,
I wouldn't expect much to change.

Speaker 5 (26:52):
I think Sartis could come back into the side just
because he was a late out on the xact day
in the VFL he got sub doubt early, so on
our six day break, I think he will probably come
back into the side. It would be a bit harsh
for joy Menzi to come out considering he'd played well
and gather around. Yeah, but also Gresham hasn't really done
much coin gresh here in the last two games. He's

(27:16):
been virtually non existence. He got subed out as well.
Harry Jones will be okay after rolling his ankle on
an Zac Day, so apparently he'll be fit enough, so
I expect him to play as well.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
Yeah. Nice, I loved Nay Katie.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
I think he could have a big game against the
Rugs because the tolls usually do. He was really good
day as well. He had a couple of goals nine
in disposals like he can do a bit of everything.

Speaker 5 (27:37):
Yeah, he can, and he's good on the ground and
he's athletic as well, like he runs around the ground well,
he applies pressure as a toll forward, which is what
we've lacked for using them. But you have put in
that one of our other tour forwards has a pretty
good record against you guys.

Speaker 1 (27:51):
Well, very nice Peter, right, he always too, Peter. He
always dominates us. He's got more goals against North than
any other opponent in his career. There's twenty two goal
was in ten games, two point two goals, which is
in like a huge stat, but it's not.

Speaker 3 (28:04):
He's been very consistent. He's had a couple of four goal.

Speaker 1 (28:06):
Games against the North, which I remember and I go,
this guy's going to be really good, and then you'll
have a bad game against a good team and he'll
fire up against So I'm a little bit worried about you.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
Maybe the size of Grifflow does need to come.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
Yeah, maybe I think we might bring another toll back
because Paul don't have that many tolls down there, and
I'm pretty sure.

Speaker 5 (28:22):
North Melbourne had the buy, didn't they in the VFL
So oh yeah they might have. It was kind of
hard to prove themselves. But I guess a bit of
an extra break won't help when majority of your players
are coming off the.

Speaker 1 (28:31):
Five day break yep. One more thing on Essendon Marcus
that we talked about. Obviously, your coach is our old coach,
Brad Scott. There's rumors that he might reward some VFL form.
He haven't done that.

Speaker 3 (28:43):
What do you reckon?

Speaker 5 (28:44):
One of the one of the form players in our
VFL has been Allen Davey in the small fall department.
He's been really been putting a lot of pressure on
and that's what they really want to focus with him.
And he's been rewarded with hitting the scoreboard as well,
with a couple of goals every game. So either him
or Zach Johnson he was picked seventy year, had thirty
I think you had thirty four in a goal on
the exact day lit up for the big occasion. But

(29:05):
I think it's probably a bit too soon for him
to come back into the side.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
No, definitely fair enough.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
I'll get into some stats because that's what I do,
but there's some stats that are very against North Melbourney. Unfortunately,
the Bombers have won their last eleven matches against the
Ruse that since twenty sixteen. That was the last time
we were good, the last time we made finals.

Speaker 3 (29:22):
I believe our band players. I think that year your team.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
The only I don't know about you, just the only
team I want to beat all year, being from Essendon
is that the Bombers. I just I can't stand them,
but we haven't beaten them for almost ten years.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
Yeah, not good.

Speaker 4 (29:37):
Chances don't look strong.

Speaker 3 (29:39):
But that's positive.

Speaker 4 (29:45):
Really quickly to bring some positive energy. I do feel
like it's going to be a game where somebody just
has like like a great game, Like is it Lakie
who kicked six? Or is it down the other way?

Speaker 3 (29:57):
Probably it was very uncharacteristic last I think.

Speaker 4 (30:00):
I think if there's a time for Lucky to bounds back,
it's going to be this week. So that's my hope
that in the same breath it could be Peter Wright,
who could.

Speaker 3 (30:10):
Be Peter Bell. Of both of them kicked six, i'd
be nice.

Speaker 5 (30:14):
It could be a nice big scoring Yeah, well both
teams don't really lock to run both ways, so you're right,
it could be a very high scoring game.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
But I think, yeah, the game is going to be
one in the midfield, isn't it. Yeah, the midfield is
going to be yet pretty exciting. I've got another one here.

Speaker 1 (30:30):
Cali Daniel has had twenty seven plus disposers in three
of his last four matches against the Bombers. Now he's
getting a lot of touches and turning it over. He's
been so cold. I thought he was going to be
one of the best recruits. He's usually such an elite
kick and he's lost the plot. He had like three
out in the fools on the weekend.

Speaker 4 (30:44):
It's been frustrating, to words.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
Very frustrated because you know the level he can play
out and he hasn't. Maybe he actually played really well
against Gold Coast when we were there in the rest,
but other than that, he's been very disappointing.

Speaker 4 (30:55):
I think there's also no excuse for that. All the
turnovers and anything can be in a bad performing team,
but still someone like Caleb Daniel and his kicking ability,
like you need to be hitting some target.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
Yeah, because if he's going to get twenty five plus
disposed every week, just because if the way he plays,
he doesn't really defend that much, but he's there to
kick hit the targets. Because we don't have enough guys
down there that do that. He's just not doing that
at all. It's also his two hundred games. I'm hoping
that he just lifts for that he lives with the
two hundreds, like Parker was awesome last week in his
three hundred.

Speaker 4 (31:25):
God, he has been good.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
He's been really good last couple week. So I'm just
a bit worried about.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
He's someone as well.

Speaker 5 (31:31):
Luke Parker has had a little bit of his history
with Essendon as well before yeap, obviously with Dylan Shill,
the whole little scare tactic.

Speaker 3 (31:38):
I thought about that.

Speaker 5 (31:39):
Yeah, yeah, so it should be interesting, Like obviously there's
North Melbourne lock to think there's a little bit of
a rivalry brewing there, but yeah, other team.

Speaker 4 (31:48):
You're telling us that there was.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
It's like little little brother sort of vibes. I think
we've still got Frank the tank through I've ever been to.

Speaker 4 (31:57):
Are we going to hang on to that?

Speaker 1 (31:59):
Run that the amount of chatted out, the amount of
group chats I've sent that gift of Drew Peter doing that.
I haven't done it for a while though because we
haven't been good. But yeah, that I just really want
to go with that.

Speaker 4 (32:08):
Yeah, I think I'm also predicting a bit of like
CaCO magic.

Speaker 3 (32:12):
Oh well, he needs to fire off.

Speaker 4 (32:14):
I can see I can see it's probably going to
happen against a team like North.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
Yes, he does North.

Speaker 1 (32:20):
Sorry, North very susceptible to moll forwards, which we even
made Vandermi look good in round one.

Speaker 3 (32:27):
If you put Luke McDonald on him, he will give
him a bath. Yeah, I don't even know why don't
even talking about North. Oh, it's actually brutal.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
We've got anything else on this that we want to
talk through, anything else at all?

Speaker 4 (32:40):
Well, Goldie Goldie Goldie facing North.

Speaker 1 (32:42):
Yeah, Legacy, the Anti Day Medal, gold Cherry Goldiev Cherry
Cherry will give him a bath. But that makes me
sad because I love Yeah, yeah, I think you will.
We usually go against each other in this one.

Speaker 3 (32:57):
What do you think? Do we have a little little
bet in this one? Marcus? I think so.

Speaker 4 (33:01):
I think it's only for something.

Speaker 1 (33:02):
Yeah, I think we were discussing some food. But maybe
let us know on the socials pole, any suggestions at all,
just that maybe what we should go against each other or.

Speaker 4 (33:11):
Oh god, I'm just I'm not your go to.

Speaker 3 (33:15):
I think there was a cinnamon challenge, hot sauce. Possibly.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
I don't really want to do anything. I reckon Bug
was good, but that sort of passing. Someone said a
little bit more confident now.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
But I don't know.

Speaker 4 (33:30):
Haircut, the shaved head, maybe not that.

Speaker 3 (33:37):
Live on live on air, I'm not I think.

Speaker 5 (33:41):
The comments should let us know. I think we're set
on doing a food related one.

Speaker 1 (33:45):
So Leo is going to chuck up on the socials
in the poll on the story of Instagram.

Speaker 3 (33:48):
I think maybe even on Twitter as well.

Speaker 1 (33:50):
I said that really weirdly as you last behind the camera,
But you sound like a boomer talking about rattle because
I know that nor they're going to lose and I
know they're going to have to do.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
I'm very rattled.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
All right, let's get into the tips, because I'm absolutely
rattled from this North game. Who are we going to
tip in this one? Guys, I'm guessing I know who
you got to tip, Marcus Uh. It would be rude
for me if I didn't go from our own team,
but I'm going to go the Bombers. I think probably
around about that three gold mark. I think it's still
going to be really close.

Speaker 5 (34:16):
Like two of the last three meetings I believe have
been really close between US and North Melbourne, So I
don't think it has been okay, there has been too
that the last one was forty, but the two before
that were decided by less.

Speaker 1 (34:30):
They were, but the last one was really the last one.
The last one we kicked away a little bit, but
we didn't even play that well.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
I think you guys just.

Speaker 5 (34:35):
Didn't show up in the first Yeah, but I do
think it'll be a little bit closer under the lights
Thursday night footy.

Speaker 3 (34:42):
There's a bit more incentive to play well. So yeah,
what's the Martin there? Eighteen? All right, Jess, what do
you reckon?

Speaker 4 (34:49):
Well? I before this wardlaw news and also the Curtis
suspension upheld, I was backing the Ruis in always. It'll
tell you that I'm still going to back then because
you know what backs against the wall. I just don't
think North like anything more than like to come out

(35:10):
and spirit exactly.

Speaker 3 (35:13):
That is so characteristically North Melbourne. We always win.

Speaker 4 (35:17):
We want to well, I'm going to have some faith
here and reckon we'll put on some sort of performance.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
I like that we could have won last week.

Speaker 1 (35:25):
I wish I could join you, but there's only one
person on this panel that are going to tip North.

Speaker 3 (35:29):
Tipped us. You've got the North, we win. It's an
added bonus.

Speaker 4 (35:35):
Over over the scar.

Speaker 1 (35:37):
We are the hardest team to tip. I just after
a five day break, those such big outs. I think
if Paul Curtis was playing, we definitely have a chance
because I can kick some goals. But I'm going to goident.
I think it'll be really close. I think it'll be
about three goals fifteen points. I'm going to say so
a bit of a close one. But I can't tip us.
I've I've lost so many tipping comps in the past
because I'm so I'm just not doing that.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
It feels illegal.

Speaker 3 (35:58):
I think head over, I have.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
Every right to row, just because nor all right, I

Stuff You Should Know
Boysober

Boysober

Have you ever wondered what life might be like if you stopped worrying about being wanted, and focused on understanding what you actually want? That was the question Hope Woodard asked herself after a string of situationships inspired her to take a break from sex and dating. She went "boysober," a personal concept that sparked a global movement among women looking to prioritize themselves over men. Now, Hope is looking to expand the ways we explore our relationship to relationships. Taking a bold, unfiltered look into modern love, romance, and self-discovery, Boysober will dive into messy stories about dating, sex, love, friendship, and breaking generational patterns—all with humor, vulnerability, and a fresh perspective.
